This morning, I woke up to a lovely comment I got on my YOI novelisation. It was from the reader, who many months ago told me that they loved my handling of aspec-Yuuri when I wasn't even aware of what I was doing. I knew that many aces felt represented by him and I could definitely see that too, but at that time, I hadn't really looked into that subject. Until that point, I had focused on writing Yuuri in-character, not knowing that my own experience complemented his characterisation nicely (but that it was a mess in the chapters I had yet to post for the same reasons!).

Now, many months, a detailed character analysis that cemented the aspec as being perfectly backed by the source material (see here), and fixing Yuuri's characterisation in the remaining chapters later, that reader thanked me for the good ace representation.

That comment did more than just make my day. It wiped away even the last residuals of my fear that I had messed up.

Being a fanfiction writer is a neverending rollercoaster. It's important to celebrate the good things.

This is the only thing I could think of that would surprise you more than you’ve surprised me.

It's been 3 days since I've finished my latest rewatch of Yuri!!! On Ice and I'm still reeling with all the small, gentle touches during Yuuri and Viktor exchange during the gala and how smoothly they are integrated into the choreography as a testimony of their love.

These touches don't happen in the spur of the moment, they are well-practised details of the routine. Every little movement causes a change in momentum and movement and thus affects one's balance. Add a slippery surface and interactions with a partner to the equation and a fleeting touch turns into a feature that demands to be planned and excuted timely.

The touches being part of the routine takes away nothing from their significance - on the contrary. They show the love and care Yuuri and Viktor have poured into this routine and thus symbolise the love and care they poured into their relationship. They are a part of the story Yuuri and Viktor tell through this programme - the story of their love.

Note how at first, Yuuri skates alone. He's fighting alone, expressed through the jumps, copying Viktor and trying to catch up with him. There's a reason why the part until Viktor arrives is exactly the same as Viktor's FS. Then, Viktor takes over and pulls Yuuri along. He woos Yuuri and supports him [the lift]. Eventually, Yuuri reciprocates his feelings [the caress of Viktor's cheek and the soft, loving smile right afterwards].

From there, they skate side-by-side as partners and skaters of equal skill, which gives us a glimpse into their future.

Eros portrays the physical and sensual aspects of Yuuri's feelings, Yuri On Ice showcases his love in a wider and more general sense and narrates the story of him and Viktor from his own viewpoint. In the gala version of Stammi Vicino, he and Viktor tell their story together in the grand conclusion of Yuuri's season theme.

I wanted to thank you all for the support you’re giving to Babygirl. Truly this has been on my head (and my drafts) for so long, and just as much as my Teen Viktor story that has also resonated with so many (Stamps & Sleepless Nights), and is very dear to me.

I don’t want to label or put what I write / my style into boxes, so it makes me really happy that I now have somewhat of an audience that is following me through all this different stories —some “canon” with heavy headcanon content and also my dear AU's— and are sticking with me.

Also I would love to know more about what you like to read and your own headcanons, keeping the conversation open and genuinely friendly. And above all, being really inclusive in everyone's takes creating a space where you all feel safe to share how you’ve been growing to love more and more our favorite skater's Life and Love.

I’ve already got to know some people in the YoI fandom, some I’m happy to call friends now. And it thrills me to realize how all their different takes in the source material have enriched my own. Which I think is the goal of being part of a community —not the name calling, not the gatekeeping of canon, not pointing fingers or making everyone feel illiterate and not worthy of sharing their ideas— our shared love of Yuri!!! On Ice. And I also love reading other YoI writers works and learn from them, geek about their stories and share them too because truly I'm amazed about what they’re creating.

He remembers one night, six months ago, when a fateful slip-up made him accidentally call his husband "babygirl" on a late-night Facetime... and, naturally, Viktor was there for it. And of course, Yuuri would use this knowledge to his benefit.
