I've seen a lot of doom and gloom from the Yuri on Ice fandom, and I get it--it's super disappointing. I was hoping for Ice Adolescence, too, and losing that hope is hard.

However, I can promise you, the fandom isn't going anywhere. It's not over. There are SO MANY fandoms that have survived and even become stronger after the source material ended. Star Trek's TOS is HUGE, and the last bit of canon was a movie in the 1990s. If anything, the fandom has made it bigger than ever, because they refuse to stop writing and drawing and thirsting for Spock.

You can do this with YOI. You HAVE done this for all these years. Keep writing. Keep drawing. Keep thirsting for Viktor. Do that and this fandom will continue to be the amazing place you built it to be.

We don't need new canon, because Yuri on Ice is basically perfect as-is. Be disappointed, but don't quit. This place is special.

Okay this a total shout into the void but if anyone knows, I need your help finding a fic.

Back in like... 2017? Possibly 2018? Around that time, there was a yuri on ice fic about Viktor finding out he has a son (Yurio) and then finds out Yurio has been adopted by Yuuri, who I believe is some sort of dance instructor in the fic. The whole fic was basically Yuuri and Viktor fighting each other for custody of Yurio because Viktor wants to take Yurio because oh my god he has a son, and Yuuri wants to keep him because on all levels except physical, Yurio is his son.

I found it because someone had posted their fanart of the fic on instagram years ago (and it's been deleted since then ;-;) and I was reading the fic itself on ao3. My friend said she was reading it on tumblr, but I wasn't on Tumblr at the time so I can't verify, but I do know For A Fact it was on ao3.

Other tidbits of information I can remember

Yuuri and Yurio were both living in Russia

Yuuri was I believe 23 and Viktor 27, their canon ages at the time I think, and Yurio was eight.

Yuuri and Yurio are just regular people

Viktor found out because he had gotten a letter from Yurio's dead mom, I can't remember what the letter said exactly beyond "you have a son."

The last chapter I left off on, the media had gotten word of this drama and Viktor's PR team, not Viktor himself, had leaked this information on Yuuri's history of depression and mental health to either pressure him into giving Yurio to Viktor, or just to make a case for future custody battles that Yuuri is unfit to parent Yurio. Viktor himself was actually super pissed off that they did that.

If anyone knows the name, what happened to it, if it ever finished, literally anything, please help a fellow reader out. I'm mostly looking for the name of it, but literally anything is good. Thank you.

Yuuri On Ice (Mostly Viktuuri) Fic Recs

A historical au set in the Edo period of Japan. Yuuri is a high-ranking courtesan (basically a prostitute) that Viktor meets while on a political trip to Japan. Very well-written and beautifully traumatic. I am a massive sucker for well-written historical aus, and from what I can tell, it's pretty accurate, and even if it wasn't, it still makes you feel the absolute horror of Yuuri's situation. This fic will put you through the emotional fucking wringer, but the ending is well-worth it.

Take Strength by stammiviktor

A post-canon fic about Yuuri and Viktor adopting a son. Tooth-rottingly sweet and domestic. We desperately need more kidfics in this fandom.

Polyglot Variations by spoken

A sort of character-study of Viktor and his life examined through the lens of his multilingualism. This is legit one of my favorite fanfics ever. This is literally so good and realistic that it feels like canon. It should be. Just. Fucking read it.

hood & glove by Fahye and hawberries

Otayuri fantasy au, where Yuri is a fairy and needs Otabek's help with the plot. I love Otayuri, but most of the fics I find of them aren't really up to my tastes, but this is really good, even if it is short. Fantasy aus don't tend to be my cup of tea, but if you like fantasy aus, you'll like this one.

Some of the best fics in the yoi fandom are the ones that are both extremely fluffy and extremely smutty. This is one of them. Just a cute domestic fic about Viktor and Yuuri moving to Russia with a LOT of smut. Like, it's basically just 30k of well-written smut and couple bonding, and it's amazing.

On Ice related-summer-olympics things, please accept this fic recommendation!!! it's one of the first ones I read back when I started reading a ton of YOI fic in like.... 2020? and I think about it SO CONSTANTLY. gymnast!Yuuri and skater!Viktor and falling in love across seasons and timezones and worlds <3

The gymnastics edition, in which Viktor is still a skater because he's too pretty on ice and I couldn't take it away from him. A story about how sometimes love comes slow and soft, and how hearts get bigger when they break. ... I also wanted to do a gymnastics story because there's more competition elements to play with; e.g. each character can have their time to shine on Vault, or Floor, or Rings *and* there's a team component, which means that over time characters like Georgi and Kenjirou also have a role to play that's important. For the purposes of the story, I’ve taken some liberties with ages, timelines, and the host cities of various events, including the Olympics themselves. Where these changes exist they are always for plotty-type purposes (or, if you prefer, because I like breaking things before I fix them, gosh). When the story starts, we're at the 2012 Summer Olympics, which are hosted in Tokyo. I've also made up SNS handles when I can't find them on the wiki because I am a lazy internet hag. Phichit and Yuuri are now the same age, and they are roommates at University of Michigan, where Cialdini is Head Coach. Kai cursed as she flicked through Yuuri's contacts. At least she was familiar enough with the iPhone UI that the Japanese didn't throw her much. Or it didn't until she got into his contacts and realized that most of them were in Japanese and then a bunch were in Russian and only the ones that she didn't need were in English. Viktor's would obviously be in Russian. FUCK.

Nevermind. Viktor's contact information turned out to be glaringly obvious. And if it wasn't Viktor—There was no way it wasn't Viktor. Absolutely none. She hit the button to make a phone call and sure enough, Viktor's contact picture filled the screen, so Kai put the iPhone to her ear as it rang, keeping one hand on Yuuri's back to rub small circles, in a futile effort to calm him down.

He wasn't pushing her away at least, so that was something.

"Yuuri!" Kai didn't think that she'd ever heard such a bright and happy sound from the Russian skater before in her life. Even when she'd been present during their interactions there was always this sort of distance that Viktor maintained. Was he always so happy when Yuuri called him?

"Sorry. No. It's Kai. I need you to fix him."

The change in the Russian's tone was immediate. "Fix him?"

"Yes." Kai didn't bother explaining and pressed the phone to Yuuri's ear. "I called Viktor." She was absolutely sure that the Russian skater could hear Yuuri's rapid breathing through the phone connection.

"Hos… Hospital." Yuuri pressed his own hand against the phone and Kai turned to Madison who had gone white.

"I was just trying to make him feel better! I didn't think he'd freak out! I swear! Phichit practically hangs off him all the time!"

Mila's the first friend Yuuri's made in Russia. Technically, Yuuri became friends with Yurio in Hasetsu, but he'd never say that to Yurio's face.

On his first day training in Russia, Mila stole Yuuri from the rink and showed him pictures of Victor and Georgi wearing Spice Girls t-shirts Victor had picked up at a consignment shop during Skate America in 2006, and a video of them skating a synchronized routine to "Stacy's Mom."

"Don't let anyone here intimidate you. I guarantee none of them are scarier than Yura." They watched Victor skate circles around Yuri on the ice, Mila's camera primed for blackmail material—just in case.

Mari doesn't like it when the past and the present overlap so easily. Mari knows the mischievous grin and the burn of eyes that linger too long. They're the trademark of girls who are still figuring out what they want, but want relentlessly. Mari is tired of letting people in, only to have to say goodbye when their vacation is over.

Mila has experienced this before, this knowing little smile that implies that they know something about her body that she doesn’t. It comes across as cocky, and arrogant on men, and gentle with Mari. Mari looks like she's just told her some kind of wonderful secret.
