⭐Happy birthday to Yuuri Katsuki, one of the most well written fictional characters of all time.⭐
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's heartbreaking to me that his story was cut short, especially when we all know how much there still is to tell.
Yuuri's character has changed and inspired me in so many ways. I don't think I've ever related to a character more in my life. He's by far one of the most well made depictions of anxiety, and his experiences within Yuri on Ice perfectly display how it can affect your life, career, dreams, and relationships. But he also shows that while that anxiety never disappears entirely, there are ways to keep it from consuming you and holding you back. I think that message is beyond important. He's such a fun and goofy character, but he's also a character who struggles. His writing is honestly a work of genius.
He deserved so much more. I think we as a community can all agree on that. There's still so much about Yuuri we were never able to learn. I mourn every day knowing that. It deeply saddens me that we never get to see him win a gold medal, and that Victor never gets to kiss it. We don't get to see him win those 5 world championships he promised to Victor, and we don't get to see him marry the love of his life. It breaks my heart knowing how much is still untold.
This fandom truly does survive off of fan works, so thank you to all of the artists and writers who have continued to keep Yuuri's character alive through their works.
There's still so much I'd love to say, but I somehow still struggle with fully encapsulating my emotions about these characters into words. So I'll leave it here for now.
Thank you, Yuuri, for bringing joy into the lives of so many. And happy birthday! 🎉🩵🎉🩵🎉

To @charlietinpants From @midnight-blues09
Young and beautiful
~Will you still love me, when I’m no longer young and beautiful?~
Victor stared at himself in the washroom mirror, the stagnant morning silence only interrupted by the swish of the hair brush going through the slight knots in his hair. The pale blonde-platinum complexion of it wasn’t as shiny as it used to be. Victor knows. He used to know more often, until the life-love hurricane gave him a more worthwhile pastime to notice the nuances of his beautiful husband than picking on his flaws.
In the dreary silence of the morning, its easier to notice more. The creases near his eye corners have gotten more distinct with age, resembling wrinkles (they’re not wrinkles he knows, he’s had them since teen hood), they make him look serious Yuuri says.
He hates them a little less when Yuuri caresses them with the rugged pads of his fingers as if trying to rub off Victor’s hate that has settled on the skin.
He can only stare in amazement at the delicate, almost scared, touches of his lover, the way Yuuri appreciates even his eyelashes as if they were silver phoenix feathers and how he murmurs sweet nothings as he holds him close.
He wasn’t young anymore, of course not as ancient as Yurio might claim, but he could feel it in the slight stiffness of his knees and the rising of his hairline. He was still beautiful, he knew that too, but he couldn’t help his mind from straying at the thought of a future where he wouldn’t be.
He knew the places where his wrinkles would appear— near his eyes, Yuuri thinks when they do appear, they’d look like small victory signs; marionette lines on his face, mirroring his father; maybe the folds of his cheeks near his nose would grow more distinct.
The thought had terrified him when he was younger, of growing old, of retiring, the loss of his youth and beauty. Even gods have their fears, for him it was the loss of devotion the crowds would have for him, how would he face himself in the mirror every morning. He is a little vain on that note, he knows it too.
Victor was broken out of his trance as he heard the bathroom door click open and a very sleepy Yuuri with probably the prettiest bed head of this universe, stumbled in. He puts the hairbrush down and wraps his hands around his husband’ waist, his face slotting on the other’s shoulder like a missing jigsaw piece.
The sound of the wooden brush hitting the counter brought some semblance of wake in Yuuri, who smiled softly, leaning into the sudden but not unwelcome warmth, ’ that smile could light up a thousand suns’ Victor thought, like the lovestruck fool he was.
And he wondered not for the first time, ‘will you still love me when I’m no longer beautiful?’, a small part of him cursing himself at doubting his lover.
-×-×-
Hot summer nights, mid-July
When you and I were forever wild~
Yuuri Katsuki didn’t think of Hasetsu much for the 5 years he had been in Detroit. He remembered- yes, he remembered the pain in his mother’s eyes as she sent her anxious son half the world away to a crime ridden American City, for the sake of his dreams.
He remembered Vicchan’s unknowing tail wagging thinking it was just another long walk to the station and not the last time he would see his owner.
He remembered Mari giving up her dreams to take care of their parent’s onsen when he rode his whims shamelessly; he did not even have the courage to ask what her dreams were.
He remembers the glittery pink “Goodluck Yuuri-kun” banner that Minako and Yuuko had brought along to see him off (as atrocious as it had looked, he loved it).
And he remembered his father fighting back tears which were borne from some odd sense of pride and not sorrow, how could he have been proud of 17 year old meek little Yuuri who had done no great task even in juniors. (He didn’t even break a single record of his idol, 3 national gold medals, a JGP silver and a junior worlds bronze could matter less).
But he never missed the life he had there, as peaceful as it may have been, he hadn’t had the entirely picturesque high school experience, he had been eager, like every other teenager, to leave the nest and fly off with dreams that seemed between his reach yet far, far away.
But it had all changed the past two summers that he had spent in Hasetsu. Each walk home after practice from the rink, the way they had taken slight detours just to hold hands a little longer and keep on walking. The burn in his limbs from all the practice was nothing compared to the burn of his heart when he looked into those cerulean eyes, soft in a way only for him to see.
There was not a day which didn’t include being smothered in the infinite affection and their wedding– first a quaint traditional Japanese ceremony and then the western counterpart with all their skater peers on the white sandy beach.
How Victor’s hands had held him at the wedding alter when they kissed, like he was the most precious thing Victor had ever held, and how in his vows he had slipped in the words “You’re my sun, you make me shine like diamonds” and Yuuri had smiled fondly at his soon-to-be husband’s Lana Del Rey obsession.
And he remembered the bliss that had followed the day when their expensive tuxedos lay forgotten on the floor, he remembered the sound of crickets and warmth of his lover’s embrace.
——
The crazy days, city lights
The way you’d play with me like a child~
The juniors at Yakov’s rink arrive around 8 am for their morning practice, and they are rarely surprised anymore at the sight of the recent 2017 grand prix champion Katsuki Yuuri and his ridiculous living legend of a coach pair skating with the joy and giddiness of teenagers in love, except their movements are refined to the finest and the edges they scrape on ice look like impeccable modern art.
It was so easy to get entranced by their skating when Victor danced around his beloved Yuuri like a butterfly in mating season, and even more easy to lose oneself in their skating when Yuuri followed the suite chasing his lover like nothing else in the world had ever mattered (which was probably true considering how sappy they were).
The whole point is, this morning rendezvous shouldn’t look anything but ridiculous but somehow it worked for them, it just did. Periodically, Yakov would grunt and murmur something about fooling around and wasting ice time and yell at Vitya and his protégé to get serious for the world championships that were knocking at the door unless they were considering to switch their career to ice dancing, but the fondness in his eyes betrayed his words.
Oh, and the pain in their eyes when they parted for their separate cross training shortly after as if they wouldn’t meet again for the next 100 years, except they would, at lunch which was in barely 4 hours, the juniors thought with each their separate deadpanned faces.
—-
I’ve seen the world, lit it up as my stage now Channelling angels in the new age now~
Sometimes Victor would look at young Yuri Plisetsky who had a fire in his heart that Victor too used to have, although Yuri did have it on a more blatant display unlike Victor who made his life look effortless; but Yuri was not the second coming of Victor Nikiforov, neither did he make music with his body like the Japan’s ace.
Bits and pieces of their skating did blend into Yuri’s over the years. You could see Victor’s shadow in the way he lands his quad lutz (Victor helped him learn it) or you could see Katsuki Yuuri’s touch in Yuri’s growingly sharp and precise edgework or ravishing step sequences (Yuuri had been helping him on Yuri’s not-at-all enthusiastic request). But he was his own skater, the way he moved and expressed himself on ice was his very own signature, nobody’s hand me down.
Victor felt a lot more relieved about his retirement when he saw Russia’s more than capable rising ice tiger. Figure skating would keep changing and keep growing with talented young skaters like Yuri, each bringing their own colours into the sport and maybe Victor was very glad to be at the side lines coaching a few of them alongside his Yuuri.
He had won the most gold medals in figure skating history, he had revolutionised the sport with his quad flip (God did he sound utterly vain phrasing it like the reporters always had), it would be wrong to say he didn’t enjoy it, somewhere along the way he had felt extremely ecstatic riding his success, charming the world with his charisma both on and off the ice. He had loved fooling around with Chris in unknown streets of unknown towns, he had loved every funky gala program he did (even the Britney Spears one in a hot pink tank top) and breathed the attention like it was the sweetest fragrance of all.
But now, he was just as happy and a lot more grounded nearing 30. He couldn’t ask for more.
-x-x-x-x-x-
Will you still love me when I got nothing but my aching soul? ~
But sometimes
When I come back from the rink after you finished your practice an hour earlier,
“Yuuuu~ri I haven’t showered yet; I am dripping with sweat”
“Mmm don’t care Vitya” he says pressing us closer together.
I think
When you give me these little surprises…
“You made me holodets! Yuuri, I thought you hated cold meat jelly; you almost threw up when you tried it”
“I know its probably not like your mother’s but its your favourite, I hope it tastes decent.” You said with a smile that should be illegal.
I know you will
Even if I am impatient.
Even if I shut you out (it becomes a habit when you have been alone for so long)
Even if I don’t understand the depth of your anxieties sometimes, and think I can kiss it away like the stupid stupid man I am.
I know that you will.
“As sweet as I find it Vitya, those are some extremely sappy lines even by your extra standards”
And Katsuki Yuuri, the man of the day, was standing behind me, peeking at my laptop screen with a shit-eating grin.
“Let me be a sap in peace Yuuri detka.”

Hi! I've heard somewhere that some lines of Yuuri's speech at the press con in episode 5 were mistranslated and that because of this, the speech comes across as if Yuuri doesn't know what exactly he is feeling for Viktor. I can't tell if it's really mistranslated, but I always found the subs in this scene a bit confusing. So, I'd love to know: how would you translate his speech?
Hi! Thank you for the ask!
I must admit that I've never properly watched Eng sub or dub version, and even though I bought the US edition to someday discuss some translation choices (that's imo super fun thing to do ✨) my only laptop that had a built-in DVD player broke down >.<
Sooo, I searched online for his speech in subtitles, but I'm not sure if the subtitles I've found are official...
"My theme in this year's Grand Prix series is "love". I've been helped by many people in my competitive skating career thus far, but I've never thought about "love" until now. Though I was blessed with support, I couldn't take full advantage of it. I always felt like I was fighting alone. But since Victor has showed up to be my coach, I've seen something totally different. My "love" isn't something clear-cut like romantic love, but the more abstract feeling of my relationships with Victor, family and hometown... I was finally able to realize that something like love exists all around me. Victor is the first person I've ever wanted to hold on to. I don't really have a name for that emotion, but I've decided to call it love. Now that I know what love is and am stronger for it, I'll prove it myself with a Grand Prix Final gold medal!"
If this is the official translation, then well, the overall message is close, I'd say, but at the same time, hmm... If you wanted to base a ""deep"" character analysis on it, it could probably lead you in a wrong direction... Especially the end is just mistranslated.
今年のグランプリシリーズで僕テーマにするのは〝愛〞です。My theme for this year's Grand Prix series is "love".
今までのスケート人生いろんな人に助けられながらやってきましたが、愛について考えたことは一度もありませんでした。In my life as a figure skater until now, I've come to the place, where I'm now, while being helped by a lot of different people, but I haven't even once thought/pondered about "love".
恵まれた環境にいながらそれを生かしきれず、1人で戦っているような気持ちでずっといました。けど、ヴィクトルコーチが現れて、僕の見ていた景色は一変しました。I've always been in a very favorable ["for me to be a figure skater" in this context] environment, but I wasn't able to make a full use of it and I always felt as if I had been fighting alone. But, Coach Victor appeared and the scenery I see [that is: the way I see the world around me] changed completely.
僕の愛。それは分かりやすい愛や恋ではなくて、ヴィクトルとの絆や家族や地元に対する微妙な気持ち。My love. It's not [general] love or romantic love that is easy to understand, but my bond with Victor, and the lukewarm way I feel about my family and my local community. [This sentence, imo, is often mistranslated, but you can also argue about how it should be interpreted in Jp. However, to do that you have to be able to notice nuance just from the intonation of the sentence... For example, imo, because of where the VA makes a pause in the sentence, it should be "general love or romantic love that is easy to understand" and not "general love that is easy to understand or romantic love", but grammatically both option are possible. "微妙", when you look for the definition in a dictionary, is often translated as "subtle" or something similar ("abstract" is just a mistranslation, tho), but, imo, from the context, it should be the more modern meaning of the world, which basically means nowadays "not bad, I guess, but I don't really know". That's why Yuuko was offended by Yuuri's word choice. Also, based on the intonation and grammar (no need to have two "や"s in one sentence when giving examples) "bond with Victor" and "feelings towards family and local community" are two separate issues.]
ようやく自分の周りにある愛のようなものに気づくことができました。At last I was able to notice the love-like thing that is around me.
初めて自分からつなぎ止めたいと思った人、それがヴィクトルです。The first person that I myself [the vector of the action starts from Yuuri, it's an allusion to what the Nishigoris talk about with Victor in ep. 2] wanted to tie to me [and don't let them go] is Victor.
その感情に名前はないけど、あえて愛と呼ぶことにしました。This feeling doesn't have a name, but I decided to dare to call it "love".
愛を知って強くなった僕をグランプリファイナルの金メダルで証明しますっ! I'll prove myself, who got to know what love is and because of that became stronger by [winning] a gold medal in the Grand Prix Final. [The way it's worded suggests that Yuuri wants to prove his own "worth", not necessarily that what he says is true - it's not "I want to prove that...", but "I want to prove myself, who...".]
Oh, and by the way, if you read the speech carefully, Yuuri talks about "two loves" here - first, he explains that his theme is "love" and what that word "love" means to him - so "something like love, that is around him", and only then he starts talking about one more feeling - the feeling that doesn't have a name, but he decided to "dare to call love" - and that is what he feels for Victor. Because the word "あえて" is there, and it means "dare to", do something "daringly", to me it always felt as a variation/reference to the famous quote from Oscar Wilde's lover, Lord Alfred Douglas' poem "The love that dare not speak its name", but maybe that's just me ✨

ooh, I am torn between "untitled document" and "reverseAU". Please pick one for me!
I only included untitled document because it's funny to me, so it's good you chose two.
Tumblr media
This is the whole of untitled document. To this day I have no idea what it is.
'reverse AU' was a classic Yuri on Ice prompt that was essentially just a role reversal of canon. I really liked the way my idea played out, but I sadly never got around to finishing it.
Anyway it's a good chunk of words, and I'm pretty certain I'll never finish, so I'll just put it behind a read more. Yuri on Ice fans come get your food.
-------------------------------
Victor had slipped in after public ice time was over, after the last of the beginner skating lessons were done for the day, and kindly asked Yuuko Nishigori, the young woman who worked at the rink, if he could have some private ice time.
He was surprised when she recognized him, professing that it’s not every day a world-famous figure skater came into their rink out of the blue and asked to skate. Victor didn’t think he was particularly world famous, but he supposed, if you were a skating fan already, he might be recognizable.
“You can use the rink while we’re closing up. That should give you about forty-five minutes? If you want more ice time than that, you’ll have to schedule it with us and pay for it in advance.”
Victor nodded, pleased that the woman spoke English well, because he didn’t know more than the most basic of Japanese.
He was still feeling the effects of jet lag, so once he’d laced up his skates he spent a good ten or so minutes just skating around the rink, orienting himself with the setting and breathing in the crisp cool air of a rink well loved.
And then, he began to skate. It was a program he knew down to his very bones, better than his own programs from that year, which to be honest, considering his last experience in competition, he’d rather forget anyway.
When Yuuri Katsuki skated, it was like he made music with his body. Victor thought that, even if he went out there and skated a program with no music playing, it would hardly make a difference, would hardly diminish its beauty. Yuuri was the music itself; it flowed through him and was expelled from his fingertips, from the silver of his blades flashing and gliding across the ice.
It took Victor’s breath away, but he hardly cared. Even if Victor could no longer breathe, he was sure he could survive on Yuuri’s skating alone; on the serenity of his smile, on the grace and poise he moved with.
If Victor could skate like that, if he could skate even half as well as that, he would be happy. If he could stand on the podium with Yuuri Katsuki, know that Yuuri had watched him skate, had been impressed by it, then it would have all been worth it; the pain in his leg that occasionally still ached to this day, the years of recovery from an injury that could easily have been career ending, the biting commentary and the cynicism the media had had about him; ‘just give up, Victor Nikiforov is over’ for season upon season. The Russian skating federation would rather be done with him, he knew it. There were new stars on the rise; junior world champion Yuri Plisetsky for one. And even Georgi Popovich, his longtime rink mate, had managed a top six finish at worlds in Victor’s absence just days before.
There was no music as he began the program; Yuuri’s program, the one he’d just won his fifth world title with, his fifth grand prix final gold medal. It was the program that Victor skated every single day because he loved skating, and this was the one thing that could remind him of it.
He heard the piano in his head as he skated, listening to the sound of his blades across fresh ice, allowing it to soothe him as he ran through the elements of this ridiculously difficult program that he loved so much. His jumps were coming easily, and he breathed a sigh of relief at that. The tiny amount of pain in his leg, he knew, was because it was still stiff from the plane ride.
Victor knew that even at his best, he lacked Yuuri’s grace. He’d been told growing up, back when he was fresh from his second junior world title, back when he was on the trajectory to shake up the senior world, that he was an excellent all-around skater. But Yuuri, Yuuri was art. It could have been his ballet background, but Victor had known other skaters with a similar background, and none of them moved like Yuuri.
He let the imaginary music carry him through the second half of the program, making the decision to downgrade a quadruple loop into a triple (he’d never managed to master that jump), and closed his eyes as he launched into the step sequence, the element Yuuri was most famous for and the thing Victor was least confident in. It was almost too much for him, Yuuri moved quick as lightning during this part and Victor thought that perhaps, if the music were playing, he may have fallen behind. But…
The last jump was a quadruple flip, and Victor was still amazed at how Yuuri put it at the end of his program, but laboriously, because he was tired, and he was feeling the burn in his chest and his legs, he launched into it, landing it cleanly and with a flourish.
He ended the program, his hand over his chest and his other arm reaching out toward the edge
of the rink.
For a moment, he closed his eyes, imagining applause, imagining that he’d successfully skated a clean program in competition, and one as difficult as this.
When he opened them, there was no applause, but there was an audience.
Yuuri Katsuki stood at the edge of the rink, his eyes wide behind blue frames and his mouth wide open.
Victor almost fell over, only narrowly stopping himself from falling on his ass in front of Yuuri Katsuki himself. Sure, he knew this was Yuuri’s hometown. That’s why he’d come here. But Yuuri didn’t live in Hasetsu, he trained in Detroit, and how was he—to show up right now, of all times? Victor breathed heavily, exhausted and winded from the skate, as Yuuri made direct eye contact with him.
“You cut your hair,” Yuuri finally spoke, and that was what he’d said? Victor touched the back of his head, feeling the freshly shorn locks. It still felt strange to him. He’d had long hair since he was a preteen, but despite it being a big change, he didn’t think it was that high on the list of things Yuuri would want to comment on at the moment.
“I—I—yes?” Victor finally managed.
Yuuri let out a short laugh, and Victor swore that his cheeks pinked, just a little. “Sorry, I was surprised so I just… said the first thing that came to mind. That was weird.”
Victor felt his nerves, which had been taut as a bow string, loosen at that. “It’s okay. I just wanted a change, I guess.”
“I get that.” Yuuri paused and cleared his throat. “Victor Nikiforov.”
Victor nodded, a smile blooming on his face, because Yuuri had said his name, knew who he was.
“That was my program.” Yuuri’s grip tightened on the edge of the rink, and did he look nervous? He dropped his eyes to the ground. “You’re in my tiny hometown, which no one ever visits, and you’re skating my program?”
Victor grimaced inwardly. When he said it like that, it did sound like Victor was a bit of a weirdo. Victor just nodded, because what could he say now?
Yuuri lifted his hands from the barrier and squeezed them together, as if trying to stop himself from fidgeting. He let out a deep breath. “It was beautiful, Victor.”
He must have imagined the way that Yuuri’s eyes were shining when he lifted his head, must have been seeing things to think they looked like they were glittering with unshed tears.
“T-thank you,” Victor finally managed, breathless. He dared to skate closer to the edge of the rink, closer to Yuuri Katsuki, who was here and real and in front of him and thought he skated beautifully.
But Yuuri’s expression quickly shifted from one of amazement to one of--- irritation; anger?
Victor wasn’t sure, but his eyes grew wide and he skated a few steps backward.
“Why weren’t you at worlds?” Yuuri asked, and he sounded upset; angry even. It wasn’t like Yakov’s anger when he was shouting, or Yuri Plisetsky’s anger… pretty much all the time. This was something else entirely; anger edged with hurt, frustration, betrayal?
“I-I did badly at nationals and didn’t qualify,” Victor replied, confused. Why was he eliciting this reaction from Yuuri?
“If you’d gone and skated like that, you would have been on the podium!” he raised his voice. “If you’d landed the quad loop, you might have even been able to beat me.”
“I don’t think I---“
“I had no idea you could skate like that! Giacometti is good, but what you just did was,” Yuuri took a deep breath and ran a hand through his hair, “it was incredible.”
Victor gulped, his mouth suddenly feeling very dry. “You think so?” he asked, and it was quiet, but there was an edge of excitement to it.
Yuuri crossed his arms. “Sure, yeah. You would have placed above Chris and Otabek easily.”
“And you?”
Yuuri nodded, and there was something like a spark in his eye. Victor didn’t know what to think of it. “With a little bit of work, yeah.”
“You’re not just saying that because you’re underestimating yourself, are you?” Victor let out a short laugh. He knew from years of experience, of watching interview upon interview and reading every magazine that he could get his hands on, that Yuuri could be modest to a fault. He skated to the edge of the rink, closing the distance between the two of them until he was only a foot or so from Yuuri Katsuki.
It’s not as if it was the first time he’d ever seen him. They’d competed against each other several times before; at worlds, at the Grand Prix final, and at a couple of Grand Prix events throughout the years. But Yuuri was reserved, choosing to surround himself with only a few close friends, and although in general other skaters liked him and found him friendly, he wasn’t close to many of them. Victor had exchanged a few short snatches of conversation with Yuuri, but nothing lengthy, and certainly nothing like this; where it was just the two of them, alone.
“I’m not,” Yuuri replied.
Victor took a deep breath and placed his hands on the barrier of the rink, right next to Yuuri Katsuki. Their fingers were only inches apart, and Victor took a moment to imagine…
“I um, came to Hasetsu because it was your hometown,” Victor began. “After what happened at nationals, skating was difficult for me. But then… I decided to practice with your free skate from this year, and it really helped.”
Yuuri blinked, confused. The rink was so quiet, just the two of them, their breathing, and the fans that kept it cool.
Victor let out a brief shudder.  “My coach, Yakov, thought I was obsessed, but he didn’t understand that this program was what was keeping my skating alive.” His lips quirked up in a small smile. “He told me to take a vacation.”
“So you came to Hasetsu?” Yuuri leveled him a look.
“You’ve always inspired me, Yuuri, from the first time I saw you when I was a child. I thought, if I could visit the place my inspiration found his inspiration, maybe that would help me.” Victor felt his cheeks flush despite himself.
He must have imagined the way Yuuri’s cheeks pinked as well. “I inspire you that much?”
“You don’t think it’s creepy?” Victor let out a nervous laugh.
Yuuri shook his head in the negative. “No. It’s… nice, actually.”
Victor’s face brightened at that, his smile wide and beaming. “Yuuri!”
“But I didn’t expect this, that’s for certain.”
“Well I didn’t expect you to be here. I thought you lived in Detroit.”
Yuuri pushed his glasses up and brushed a stray hair out of his face. “Oh I do, but since Worlds was in Tokyo this year, I decided to come back home afterward for the off season. I just got here, and I have a key to the rink so…” He let out a nervous laugh. “Sorry, I just can’t believe you visited Hasetsu just because I’m from here.”
“And memorized your program,” Victor muttered.
“That too.”
Victor reached up, hesitant, and placed a hand on Yuuri’s shoulder. “It shouldn’t be that surprising. Do you have any idea how much you’ve inspired people?”

Daily Fanfic Rec (Day 8)
Yuri On Ice
5/2/2024
Masterlist
Title: Fields of Gold
Author: Haro
Words: 14,594
Chapters: 1
Completed?: Yes
"It’s difficult to believe that he’s inspired people like this; that children and teenagers in Japan and around the world lace up their skates or put on skates for the first time and think of Yuuri Katsuki, just like they think of or thought of Victor Nikiforov. He almost can’t take it. It’s too unbelievable. He’s just… Yuuri, after all.
Yuuri Katsuki with a stack of gold medals is still just Yuuri Katsuki.
He can imagine Victor repeating the same words back to him with his own name and how he’d argue that is absolutely not the case, and he laughs inwardly a bit at that.
(The story in which Yuuri Katsuki wins everything there is to win and retires as Japan's living legend, because he's incredible and beautiful and he deserves it. Aka 'Yuuri wins all the gold', the fic.)"
-- -- -- -- --
A fic where Yuuri wins all the gold, with amazing detail and storytelling!

New chapter/series update: my post-canon Olympics WIP
“Oh, anata, this is beautiful…”
Yuuri's voice petered out into a hush as he brushed gentle fingers over the image on the front cover of the scrapbook, depicting his preteen self in a relatively simple but polished black, white, and gold skating costume.
“Is this Mila’s handiwork?” he warmly asked, beaming when Viktor nodded a confirmation.
Yuuri was already looking misty-eyed, and his heart flip-flopped at this realization.
“You haven’t even opened it yet,” he teased, bringing a hand up to thumb at his lash line.
Yuuri giggled in response and then his breath hitched, presumably, at what he discovered to be on the inside cover: a photo of himself, Yuuko, Takeshi, and puppy Vik-chan at the Ice Castle, taken during the 2004 off-season (as noted in the caption). Yuuri and Yuuko were laughing at Takeshi, who looked quite disgruntled at the fact that Vik-chan was drooling all over his hand.
Opposite the first photo on the other page was another from that off-season, again depicting Yuuri and Yuuko, though this time, they were both on the ice, their arms outstretched in matching poses. The caption read: Yuuri and Yuuko imitating Viktor’s 2003-2004 Short Program .
Below the first photo were several paragraphs of kanji written in Yuuko’s neat scrawl, and below the second was another written blurb, authored by Takeshi.
“Well, here we go…I’m definitely going to cry while reading these, I can already tell,” Yuuri muttered.
Yuuri, I assume you’re reading this on the day of your Free Skate in Beijing, which would mean that today marks a whopping seventeen-and-a-half years since you first took the ice as a Novice skater at your first ever competition.
Do you remember it?!
I was mad at okaasan for almost making us late to see you – you know how she is…driving slower than a snail – but she made up for it when she showed me the ‘Viktor at the World Championships’ plushie that she’d bought as a surprise, so that I could throw it onto the ice after you finished. I couldn’t really tell what you’d thought of your performance when the music stopped and everyone applauded; you looked a little shell-shocked and your mouth went all wobbly.
But I do remember your eyes lighting up when you saw the plushie on your way to the rink boards to accept a hug from Minako-sensei. You scooped it up and pressed it to your chest, and my mom began to cry almost immediately about how adorable you looked and how proud she was of you.
Even then, Vik-chan was such an inspiration to you, and look at you, now…he’s been your coach for almost six years, and the person who’s seen you through an Olympic gold medal victory, 3 World Championship titles, 3 Grand Prix Final wins and countless other accolades.
---
In the newest chapter of my post-canon Olympics WIP, I wrote about Viktor finally getting to show Yuuri the surprise he's been working on with Yuuko, Takeshi, Phichit, and so many others: a scrapbook commemorating his husband's career, which will finally be drawing to a close that very same day (the day of the Men's Singles Free Skate at the 2022 Beijing Games). Viktor has been working on putting this gift together since the prior off-season, and even reached out to Yuuri's fans all over the world to include fanmail that touches upon how Yuuri's skating has inspired them.
Given that Yuuko is such an instrumental part of Yuuri's life, it seemed fitting that Viktor would have a letter from her serve as the opening of this heartfelt gift. I am excited to delve into other contributions from Yuuri's friends/family/fans and Viktor himself of course, which I'll be covering in part 8 of the overall series, which is currently at over 350K+ words and counting.
And now, for a series update:
In the endnotes of this most recent chapter upload (Chapter 20), I shared about a decision I've been deliberating over, which is to repost my series as a completely new set of works with some (minor) rewrites, shorter/more numerous chapters, and proper coding using workskins, which would make things look more polished.
To make a long story short, I began posting my Yuri!!! on Ice fanfiction nearly a year ago, and back then, there was a lot that I didn't know about how to build an audience for a longfic or use Archive of Our Own. As such, I think I made some mistakes that have ended up causing this WIP/series to not get the readership I think it could have if I'd been a bit more intentional. I also could have been way better at promoting my work on here or other platforms, and I sometimes wonder if the relatively low stats on part 1 or other parts of the series make potential readers shy away from giving it a chance, as they might assume the writing isn't good?
I haven't made up my mind about this decision, but if you're a longfic reader or writer that has experience with this kind of thing -- reposting your own work, or following along with a series that gets reposted -- I'd love to hear about your thoughts on this. I'm a bit afraid of losing my current readership if my current subscribers get annoyed with having to wait around for my works to get reuploaded, but at the same time, I sometimes see the stats on other longfic WIPs in the fandom, and feel bad about the fact that my numbers aren't higher. I know comparison is the thief of joy and all that, but I'm only human...
In any event, if you enjoy longfics and have always wondered what Yuuri and Viktor's relationship might look like a few years down the road, post-canon, I hope you'll give my series a chance. One thing I've tried to emphasize in my work is the reciprocal nature of how Yuuri and Viktor care for one another. In canon, we mostly see Viktor caring for Yuuri -- which is understandable, given their early dynamic of coach/student -- but I wanted to explore some of the give-and-take that would develop over time between them.

Trick or treat? (For the ficwip game!)
We know from Yuri on Ice ep 12 that Stéphane Lambiel won silver at the Torino Olympics. Year not stated onscreen; in RL this was 2006. RL Lambiel also came in fourth in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
One of Victor's gold medals seen in ep 10 looks suspiciously like the ones handed out in 2006 in Torino.
We know from the Ice Adolescence preview trailer that ten years before the show, Victor participated in the Olympics in Paris.
Conclusion: Stéphane Lambiel won silver in Torino in 2010. Victor may have won gold in both 2006 and Torino, we're unlikely to know until we actually get Ice Adolescence, but he definitely won gold in at least one of the two.
(Evgeni Plushenko and Daisuke Takahashi, who took two of the 2010 medals in RL, probably don't exist in YOI; if Evan Lysacek does, then probably something about competing against Victor knocked him down to bronze or below. Christophe Giacometti may or may not have medaled at the 2010 or 2014 Olympics, but probably not both; the fact Victor remarked on sharing multiple Grand Prix Final, Europeans, and Worlds podiums with Chris tells me they have never shared multiple Olympics podiums and may never have shared the Olympics podium at all.)
And since 2006 Paris Olympics is far from the only example of YOI setting an event somewhere other than where the RL event that year was: in order to avoid having two significant-to-Yuuri competitions in Sochi, I can move the 2014 Olympics to wherever I like! Since one of the losing bids for the RL 2014 Olympics was Jaca, Spain, which lost partly because Spain was going to host only the mountain events in Jaca, with the ice events and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies in Zaragoza—the problem being that the bidding city has to host both those ceremonies—I have therefore switched Spain's 2014 bid from Jaca to Zaragoza.
(I'm on team "Yuuri came in like eighth in the 2014 Olympics". He therefore wanted to burn his Olympic team jacket out of shame, but Minako stole it before he could. It's stored either with the rest of his old costumes or with hers, possibly both on account of Minako stores the lot at her studio.)
(2018 and 2022 Olympics in YOIverse are definitely in Pyeongchang and Beijing, same as RL, though. We have official art showing Beijing, and though RL 2017 Four Continents was in the same venue as RL Pyeongchang Olympics figure skating and therefore could plausibly be what Seung-gil's coach was talking about, that venue is in Gangneung and the Olympics are by far the more important competition.)

Leroy Wins Ninth National Title in Dominating Fashion
Leroy brothers go 1-2 for fourth straight year
January 14, 2024
CALGARY, AB – Jean-Jacques Leroy won his ninth straight national title by a dominating almost twenty-eight points. The reigning Olympic Champion scored 112.72 for his short program and 225.38 for his free skate for an overall score of 338.00, the highest score of the season by any skater so far. “I’m so happy to be able to do this kind of skate at home,” said the 26-year-old. “I know I can go and win Worlds, and it’s at home in Canada this year. I’m going to do everything I can to make my country proud of me.”
Younger brother Louis Leroy won his fourth straight silver medal. The 22-year-old scored personal best scores of 102.87 and 207.37 for the free skate and an overall score of 310.24. “I’m just looking for great performances at Four Continents and Worlds,” said the former Junior World silver medalist. “I’m thrilled with how I’ve performed here, and have been working very hard with my coaches.” Leroy is coached in Japan by Olympic Gold Medalists Yuuri Katsuki and Viktor Nikiforov.
Teenager Justin Hwang captured a surprise bronze medal here at the event, though well below his countrymates. His scored personal best scores in all three events – 88.98, 143.17 (only fourth in the free skate), and 232.15 overall. “I am so happy for this medal,” said the 18-year-old. “I knew I could, but to actually win a bronze medal at Nationals, to be a National medalist, is amazing.” Hwang will be looking to have two more good performances at Four Continents to secure a first-time time trip to his home Worlds.

Name: Viktor Nikiforov
Series: Yuri On Ice
Continuity: Anime
Age: 28
Height: 5'11"
Birthday: December 25th
Birthplace: Moscow, Russia
Orientation: Homosexual
Species: Human
Occupation: Gold medal figure skater
Father: Unnamed
Mother: Unnamed
Spouse: Yuuri Katsuki
Bio:
Viktor Nikiforov is a true living legend among the world of men's figure skating. He started figure skating at around the age of 8 and quickly showed off his immense talent. By the age of sixteen, he was already one of the top figure skater's in the entire world.
Yet Viktor doesn't mention much about his personal life to anyone, no reporters or even the closest of friends. It wasn't because it was painful or hard for him, simply just finding his past to be not quite the business of anyone. The only one who really knows is his fiancé.
He was born into an already unstable home. His mother in particular did not want Viktor at all, only going through with her pregnancy due to her own health issues and his father told her that he'd raise their child by himself if he had to. Viktor's mother would walk out on him and his father when Viktor was only about a year old, he hasn't really seen his mother since but would start to get messages on his social media of her wanting back into his life solely for money. He did block her everywhere when he noticed it was his mother, wanting absolutely nothing to do with the woman who didn't want him.
Though things with his father weren't easy either. His father tried to care for Viktor, and perhaps there was parental love somewhere in the beginning but the older Viktor got, the less and less he felt that love. Eventually, Viktor fell in love with ice skating when he saw the winter Olympics playing on television. His father was against Viktor learning to figure skate for he saw it as a 'women's sport' but after some begging, his father caved in and allowed Viktor to learn where he showed so much passion and talent.
As his career took off, that's when Viktor discovered in himself he really had no interest in women romantically. He'd quickly realize he was gay and the first person he wanted to come out to was his father, at least hoping his only immediate family would accept him. Yet Viktor's father just couldn't accept his son as gay, quickly telling him to stop this 'girly sport' and other toxic views that came out the more he begged his son to somehow 'go back'.
Though he wasn't hurt, he already figured long ago his father didn't quite love him, he just felt disappointed as he at least wanted to give his only family a chance to be a decent person that cared.
Although Viktor showed further and further talent upon the ice, becoming his label of Russia's Living legend, he secretly was deeply depressed at his new realization that he's never felt love nor the joy of life. Even when he's at the top, all Viktor wanted was joy from life and the feeling of love.
Yet he went on with life, ready to retire as he was reaching an age many figure skaters had to retire as the physical body can only handle the harsh routine of figure skating, until he met Yuuri Katsuki who was completely drunk at an after party for the grand prix finals that year. He immediately found Yuuri both amusing and completely enchanting to him. They'd dance together as Yuuri was completely black out drunk, Viktor laughing from his heart and feeling love for the very first time.
When Yuuri suggested in a drunken stupor that Viktor come visit his family's hot spring and to be his coach if he won a dance contest with Yuri Plisetsky, his eyes widened when thinking of just the possibility of getting to know this man who lit up his grey world with bright colors. When he walked by Yuuri the next day at the airport, he seemed to have no memories of the night prior that it did secretly hurt him a little.
Yet he returned home to his beloved poodle, until he was linked a video of Yuuri skating his routine for that year. He saw not only the boy he liked but amazing potential in Yuuri so he packed up everything he owned and moved to Japan in Yuuri's home to be his coach to help him get from rock bottom to gold medalist.
Eventually, Yuuri and Viktor fell in love as he'd help Yuuri rise from a 6th place skater to earning silver at that year's grand prix finals. Yuuri was the light of his life, just as Viktor was his. For once he truly did feel light and love in his life, and the two are currently engaged and plan to get married as soon as Yuuri wins his gold medal.
Viktor is incredibly confident and charismatic, an incredibly fliratious man as well as he does have a long list of ex-lovers who never did satisfy him to give him the life and love he wanted. He's also air-headed as well, often forgetting deep promises he makes to people and sometimes important events. Though perhaps from his own father, Viktor can be painfully blunt as well where he can come off very rude about it even when he doesn't mean it. Though Viktor isn't just a silly and flirtatious man either, he can be very soft spoken and deeply philosophical though it's a side he hardly shows anyone. He prefers to let the world know his thoughts and feelings on the ice rather than out his mouth or on a page.

a lil preview~
Yuuri tilted his head back, took a deep breath, and released it in a long sigh. La Mélancolie had nothing on the restrained tragedy of his face. The voice in the back of Victor’s head, the one that told him that moving to Japan for a guy he’d known for two hours tops was an impeccable idea and to hell with the consequences, said with increasing volume that he find some way to fix this, fix this, FIX THIS NOW, YUURI IS SAD YOU MUST FIX HIM.
If all this JJ-induced stress gave Victor a pimple, he’d ruin that man’s entire family.
‘JJ is harmless’ Victor’s award winning ass.
“Okay.” Yuuri took in a deep breath and framed his cheeks in his hands, eyes closing in that ‘count to ten’ way. “Okay. I can do this. I’m going to go out there, and I’m going to apologize for being rude like he was, his actions don’t justify my own-”
There were a lot of twitches that Yuuri remained ignorant of as everyone present swallowed their snorts and indignation.
“-and I’m not going to drink anymore because I’m this close to being drunk instead of tipsy and I am going to sit there, and I am going to smile, and I won’t be a total catastrophe of a human being, and I won’t set this bar on fire.”
Yuuko’s eyebrows shot up in alarm. Hm. Okay. Maybe he could trust her with the matches…
Actually wait, no. Victor couldn’t allow Yuuko to be with Yuuri in any form of intimacy, even one as minor as that, she might get ideas.
Victor had learned his lesson from the Minami fiasco. He was not about to repeat it.
“I’m going to apologize to JJ, and most importantly I’m not going to call him an idiot poser to his face, or even imply anything of the sort. I’m not.”
Yuuri took another deep breath, and nodded. His eyes opened. This was not the star bright intensity of Yuuri in his element, however. This was a look whose quiet resignation made the voice in Victor’s brain start screaming.
It paralyzed him so thoroughly that he didn’t even react when Yuuri kissed him and walked out of the bathroom.
“I give it a minute, tops, before he’s running back in here crying his eyes out.” Phichit said and set a timer on his phone.
Yuuko watched warily after Yuuri. “I know his sense of the world is distorted, but I didn’t realize it was that bad. To compare himself to Leroy…”
Phichit smiled but it looked more like a grimace. “You think that’s bad? He still thinks he’s being overscored via hanging onto Victor’s coat tails.”
Victor twitched back to life, his ire of that old argument so strong it broke him out of his busy internal gibbering. “The ISU has a new director, and he refuses to budge no matter how many petitions I bring him or how many times I cry tragically in his office.”
Which was actually pretty impressive given Victor had elevated even crying to an art form, always aware of the lighting so it made his tears shimmer just so, the arch of his neck an assignment of demure agony begging for relief, not a single drop shining from his nose. He’d practiced that shit in the mirror for what felt like ages, and it’d been worth it since it was a very effective tool. Most people cracked in under ten seconds, unless you were Yuuri who just lifted his hair out of the way to admire him better (appreciated but surprisingly callous?), or apparently this asshole. If the situation was anything other than what it was, Victor could have admired the steel in that guy’s spine, but he didn’t. Couldn’t.
Because Yuuri was chronically underscored, actually, much to the spitting fury of themselves and skating otakus the world over. It drove Yurio especially insane since it made him paranoid every time they were in a comp together. Had he earned his medal or had he fallen victim to figure skating politics? Worse, Victor was certain it was a conspiracy to get revenge on Yuuri for being Victor’s soulmate and dashing the self-insert fantasies of a good very many highly ranked people, as if they could even begin to compare. Hmph. HMPH.
“The only thing of mine that Yuuri ever hangs off of,” Victor huffed, righteously indignant. “Is my coc-”
The bathroom door crashed back open, cutting him off. Wordless, Yuuri glided passed them and stepped into a stall, closing the door behind him.
Phichit looked at his phone and winced.
A moment of silence.
Yuuri opened the door.
Yuuri walked out.
Yuuri stared into the middle distance, his face carved from merciless, unfeeling marble.
Then he looked at Phichit.
“I’m going to murder that man.” Yuuri said.
im almsot 30 pages into the karaoke fic and we havent even gotten to the singing yet why do i do this to myself

How does a Figure Skating (Senior) Season look like? - A guide for YoI fanfic writers
Tumblr media
Since Yuri on Ice mainly deals with the Grand Prix Series and other competitions are only mentioned as a side note, I've noticed that many writers seem to struggle with how a season in figure skating looks like. So here is what I've gathered from my years of watching and research!
Disclaimer: I am only human and I make mistakes. I am by no means saying that this is to be accepted as truth without question. If there are any errors, please tell me and I'll fix them!
The new season starts on July 1st. Hence the July 1st cut off. That means that anyone who hasn't turned 15 by June 30th isn't elligable for Senior competition that season (Which means that even though Yuri Plisetsky was 15 for the World Championship we see in Episode 1, he wasn't allowed to compete there).
On July 1st or the end of June is also when we usually get the Grand Prix Assignments. There are 6 qualifying competitions + the Grand Prix Final.
The 6 qualifying competitions usually are:
Skate Amerika (USA)
Skate Canada International (CAN)
Internationaux de France (FRA) (This season called Grand Prix de France...no one knows why...)
Cup of China (CHN)
NHK Trophy (JPN)
Cup of Russia/Rostelecom Cup (RUS)
This season (22/23) the Cup of China and Russia are replaced (for obvious reasons) by the MK John Wilson Trophy (GBR) and the Grand Prix Espoo (FIN)
The location of the Final changes every season. This season it's in Torino in Italy.
So in July we get the Assignments. Funniest thing about that and something I think is worth including in stories is: The skaters find out the same way we do. By either camping on twitter and waiting for the ISU to tweet that they uploaded them, or by refreshing the website every 5 minutes around the time they or some other source said they'd drop them. This season the assignments dropped on July 22nd...it was nerve wrecking...poor skaters...
The ISU is also located in Switzerland. Assignments drop between 3 and 5 pm. So worst case, Yuuri and Viktor will stare at twitter at 1am in Japan waiting for the ISU to ge their shit sorted out. That's what the triplets where shown doing in the anime xD
But the Grand Prix Series isn't the first thing that happens. For starters, let's look at national competitions...
As for Japan...
First of all, if your skater isn't already qualified for nationals by placing well enough at them the year before (the medalists get "seeded" by the JSF), they need to go to Regionals first (Like Yuuri when he finished 11th at Nationals after the GPF). That's late September, early Oktober depending on the region.
Now, Yuuri technically would have needed to also go to Sectionals after that! Which isn't shown in the anime! That's in late Oktober. Unless Yuuri does finishes on top at sectionals, he's not going to Nationals...
But that wasn't shown in the Anime because it would have been repetitive and Sectionals also overlap with the first two GP events a lot.
As for Russia...
I honestly never cared enough. The men weren't interesting enough imo and Russia is the reason women's singles stresses me tf out and I barely watch it...
But as far as I know, to qualify for Nationals they need to compete in 2 out of 5 stages of the Russian Cup Series. It functions similarly to the ISU Grand Prix. Skaters are seeded immediatly if they are assigned to the ISU Grand Prix or qualify for the Junior GP Final. So neither Viktor, nor Yuri needed to bother with that.
Beforehand however, there are the test skates. They are in early September and that's not a competition. It's literally just a televised program announcement and they get fedback. No points, no medals.
August - December:
Another type of International competition is the Challenger Series. Skaters who are not assigned a GP Event may go there instead. They are ranked below the GP Series and there isn't a final. But the ISU recognizes Personal and Seasons Bests there aswell as World records. Nebelhorn is also used as the final qualifying competition for the last remaining olympic spots.
Most well known are:
US International Skating Classic (USA)
Lombardia Trophy (Italy)
Autumn Classic International (Canada)
Nebelhorn Trophy (Germany)
Ondrej Nepela Trophy/Memorial (Slovakia)
Finlandia Trophy (Finland)
Golden Spin of Zagreb (Croatia)
Oktober - December
What you've all been waiting for: The Grand Prix Series
As mentioned before, 6 qualifying competitions: Skate America, Skate Canada Int., Internationaux de France, Cup of China, NHK Trophy, Cup of Russia/Rostelecom Cup. Not always in that order.
They get assigned spots based on their placing in worlds or their ranking in ISU standings. So, unlike I first thought when I watched the Anime (I did not know about the GP Series before), regionals did not matter for Yuuri's Grand Prix spots.
If it had been a minimum score issue, Yuuri would have needed to go to a challenger, like Nebelhorn for example.
If I'm totally honest...I don't know exactly how Yuuri got two spots at all? I just accept GP assignments as they come because I don't really understand how they work... It was either the come back rule, or Yuuri got invited by either China or Russia in addition to his guaranteed spot? I have no clue...he got two, I'm not questioning that further because I legit don't understand. Feel free to enlighten me ^^'
Anyway...skaters can compete in max. 2 competitions. Unlike suggested in YoI, there are actually 12 skaters at each event (8 for pairs).
In the end 6 qualify for the final. There is a point system in Place:
At each event, skaters get awarded points for their placement.
place: 15 points
place: 13
place: 11
place: 9
place: 7
place: 5
place: 4
place: 3
The skaters with the highest amount of points advance to the final. If there is a tie, there are several rules to break the tie. For example: Mickey placed 3rd in both of his events and therefor got 22 points. Yuuri got 2nd and 4th and therefor also had 22 points. But since Yuuri placed higher than Mickey in one of his events, Yuuri advanced to the final.
Then the final takes place in early to mid December.
December:
Important for YoI are Japanese and Russian Nationals, which usually fall around Christmas each year. That's where it is determined who is send to the Four Continents or European Championships, aswell as the World Championships.
January/Feburary:
That's when 4CC/Euros usually take place. I suggest looking up dates for the year you are setting your story in or just decide yourself if you want. It's fanfiction after all :D
Also usually in Feburary if relevant: The Olympics.
March:
Late March are the World Championships. And with that the competitive season ends. Unless you want to include the Team Trophy...but I don't really bother with that.
April-July:
ICE SHOWS!!!! :D Or: how competitive figure skaters actually earn money
Resources for further research:
Wikipedia is your friend :D
Also if you want to use an IRL competition as a guide for scoring, program layouts etc... just google "ISU results (insert competition you want to use)". A page should come up that has detailed results with scoring sheets. E.g. Worlds 22
Another Note:
For ISU events the starting order for the short is as far as I understand usually determined by draw. The groups are seperated by ISU rankings. So the first 6 in the standings will be skating in the last group, and draw from the last 6 starting numbers.
For the free there usually is reversed starting order (like in YoI, the person who placed first in the short skates last), though I have also heard that sometimes they draw again based on those standings that time.
Also, there is an exhibition gala and a banquet after almost each of these competitions ;)
I hope that this was a little helpful :D Happy watching and happy writing <3

I need help finding a fic please! Its an AU where Yuuri is still a skater but Victor is a singer or novelist. Yuuri got a ticket for a meet and greet/autograph session with Victor(I think it might have been some kind of giveaway thing he won??) But it was happening at the same time as a competition so he had to sneak away. I remember that Victor doesn't like his earlier works but Yuuri does and defended them. Then he had to run off, I think to get back to the competition, and accidentally left his bag. Victor finds it and it has a medal inside of it. I think it might have been an Olympic medal? I remember Yakov kinda freaking out about Victor handling it. Victor decides he needs to return it and I think Yakov helps him track down Yuuri? I don't remember what happens after that but hopefully thats enough to track it down!
I hope someone else can help!
---
Update:
A silence never seemed so loud by @eriskay [G, 8K]
Yuuri can’t believe his luck when he wins an exclusive meet and greet with Viktor Nikiforov, the world famous pop icon with millions of devoted fans, Yuuri’s longtime idol and true inspiration. Sure, the timing could have been a lot better, but Yuuri is determined to meet Viktor no matter what. He’ll just have to sneak away, and get back as soon as possible. Maybe Celestino won’t even notice.
Viktor is tired, and lonely, and not at all expecting to fall so deeply in love with a beautiful stranger. Now, if only there was a way for them to see each other again.
A story about meetings, about things that are lost but not forgotten, and eventually, about being found.
Tysm for the help, @flyingluna! ❤️

Today's translation #342
Yuri!!! on ICE, DVD vol. 6, Sayo Yamamoto's interview
Part 3.
~The first characters I created were Yuuri and Victor~
A mentally weak skater standing on an edge of a cliff, who puts on weight easily and is about to graduate from university, and a man, who he thinks of as both his hero and his rival, who becomes his coach - I wanted to create a story about them aiming for a gold medal in the Grand Prix Final together. I personally feel that relationships with names, such as "family" or "lovers", constrict me, so I wanted to portray a bond between two people, who are very important to each other, that can't be replaced by any other bond, and isn't in any way limited by such names.
In the first episode, to explain to viewers that Victor is such an amazing skater, that the main character, Yuuri lost his heart to him [惚れる can also be translated as "fall in love with" in a strictly romantic sense], we challenged ourselves to animate a 3-and-a half minute-long skating scene. We had to show a performance of the highest level for the figure skating world inside "Yuri!!!". If the characters aren't shown through their action, then it's not an animation, and in figure skating a performance needs to express everything, so while working on Yuri!!! I incorporated both of those ideas. Thanks to that scene, and the whole episode 1., I could believe in myself more, than I'm creating something absolutely new. I remember, how I felt after editing [of the episode was finished] even now.

i like thinking about viktor's apartment having a guest room. it's dusty, full with his old favorite costumes, probably all his medals and prestige awards in a box stuffed into a closet. viktor hates that room, hates seeing the door, hates going into it. mostly because of the memories, but occasionally also because it reminds him of his loneliness.
when yuuri moves in, the guest room still goes unused. it is not until yurio starts sleeping over that it finally sees some use.
the first time, he falls asleep on the couch and they let him be, not wanting to disturb him. the second time, they are more prepared and offer up the guest bedroom to yurio, who takes it without a smile, i promise, he definitely wasn't happy about it. nope.
the third time, yurio marches into it without a second thought, depositing his bag on the bed before returning to the living room to spend the evening.
it's after the worlds sometime in april, when things have calmed down and the skaters actually have some free time, that yuuri asks viktor about the guest bedroom.
"yurio is the only one using it, anyway, and he's sleeping over pretty much four days a week."
when yurio arrives at their apartment that evening, he definitely doesn't tear up when viktor and yuuri offer to renovate the bedroom with him (so it can feel more like home). he doesn't.
he also refuses to go pick out paint swatches and comforters with them. yurio would never help them clear out the closet or spend an entire afternoon with them trying their best at painting two of the four walls (the color he chose is called sunlight yellow. they find out it looks even prettier smeared across their cheeks while laughing). the sunlight filtering through the window has never been brighter than that first morning when yurio woke up in his room.
when yurio turns eighteen, he moves out of yakov's place and into the room he has been calling his home for the last few years anyway. now, viktor looks at the door whose existence he had been loathing for ten years with fondness, proud of the small family they've build together.

A Super-Detailed Yuri on Ice Timeline
Do you write pre-canon fic and are sick of calculating out who is what age when? Are you writing a mid-canon fic and are trying to figure out when it should be set or tired of looking up details by checking the episodes? Still confused about what year the show is meant to take place? Do you just want to read everything I could pull together about the history of the YOI characters? This might be the timeline for you!
Because of the level of detail, this timeline is quite long and IMO not the easiest to read on Tumblr. If you prefer to read it elsewhere, it is also posted to AO3 (here) and on DW (here). Otherwise, it’s all under the cut!
Background: what year is it anyway?
The year the show takes place has been a matter of some confusion, as info is a bit contradictory. For example, in the Cup of China arc, one of the background set pieces says it's the Cup of China 2015. (One can also see in the background a banner supporting Mao Asada, who competed there in the real-world 2015, though that's probably just an easter egg from an animator who is a fan of hers.) On the other hand, the order of the GP series events lines up with that of the real-world 2013-2014 season.
However, I decided to put the show as taking place over the beginning of the 2016-2017 season, as most evidence seems to point to that year. These include:
The date shown on Yuuri's phone in episode 1 was changed on the disc version to move April 10 from Monday to Sunday; in 2016, April 10 fell on a Sunday.
His phone in episode 4 also shows May 7 as being a Saturday, and Seung-gil's phone in episode 10 shows December 10 as being a Saturday; again, these days of the week line up with these dates in 2016.
In episode 4, we see a sign that says welcomes skaters to a 'Team Challenge Cup' in Detroit; this was a real event held for the first (and only) time in April 2016, albeit in Spokane, Washington rather than Detroit.
An AnAn magazine article listed Yuri and Yuuri's programs as being for the 2016/2017 season, and Yuuri and Yuri's medal positions at the GPF are listed as being in 2016-2017 as well.
Background: the timeline is not consistent and birthdays are hard
Contradictory age information is given for three characters in the show: Victor, Georgi, and Otabek. Victor's age is given as 27 in his official character bio and several times in the scenes featuring Worlds; he's also said to be 27 at the Sochi GPF. He has a birthday in-between, so these can't both be true. I put him down as turning 27 after the Sochi GPF, as that was what was repeated more times and seems to be his intended age.
Georgi's age is given as both 25 and 27 in episode six; he's listed as being 27 in his bio and in episode 7, and the same age as Victor in Go Yuri Go and Yuri on Life. So I went with 27, as again, it had more mentions. It also goes more with the theme of Georgi being in Victor's shadow.
Otabek's age is the most troublesome, because it's given as both 18 and 19 multiple times, though he has no birthday in-between. His official bio lists him as 18. Episode 9 gives his age as 18. Episode 10 gives his age as 18 directly by Victor, and either 18 or 19 indirectly. (It's given as 'five years ago' at the summer camp, when he was 'in his first year in the junior division' – the minimum age for juniors is 13. But that age minimum is the skater's age when the season starts on July 1, so if he was 13 then, he should have started the 2016 season as an 18-year-old and be 19 after his birthday). Episode 11 lists his age on-screen as 19. Episode 12 does so again, and Celestino says he's 19. (He's also listed as 18 in the Go Yuri Go and Yuri on Life guidebooks.) I went with 18, because otherwise all (consistent) character ages given in the bios are accurate for the first time we meet the characters after the start of the main story in Hasetsu, and because it is listed in both of the guidebooks. If you disagree, mentally add a year to his age in the timeline.
There are also two characters for whom we have little or no age information: Lilia and Minako. Lilia's age is totally unknown. We also aren't given anything about the timeline of when she and Yakov were married, although if Yuri doesn't know who she is at all, to me, that seems to imply that it's probably been at least five years since their divorce.
Minako is at least a little older than Hiroko, who calls her Minako-sempai, but her exact age is also not known. (They could be very close in age depending on where they were born in the school year, or closer to a year apart.) She was a grade above Hiroko at school according to Yuri on Life.
For characters who have an age given but no birthday, I simply subtracted their age from 2016 to find their birth year, which technically could be slightly inaccurate if more info is revealed at some point.
I have done my best to note when dates may be ambiguous (such as the timeline of Victor and Yuri's arrivals in Hasetsu) or where there are continuity snarls. In a few places, I have also given IRL dates of various historically important figure skating happenings and competitions seen in the show for reference, although locations and dates of events in the YOI-verse do not necessarily line up with those in our own. I've also cited where everything came from, so you can easily look it up yourself or decide what you do and don't consider canonical :)
Ages for all of the characters except Morooka are listed every year after the main characters start being born. I did this because I've seen multiple people complain that it's hard to keep the ages straight when writing pre-canon fic and wishing that they had something to make it easier. (I've definitely had to re-do my age math a few times while writing fic myself). This contributes to the timeline being really long. Sorry! To make it easier to find pre-canon events that aren't birthdays, they are listed in bold until the year 2016. --- 1946 Yakov is born

(ep1 in-universe magazine) (Note: the article says Victor is 15 and adopted Makkachin '3 years ago', which would put this event a year earlier, but this age contradicts another line said aloud. I suppose it's also possible that Yuuko could have found an older magazine and Victor could have also 'smashed records' at Junior Worlds at 15, then skated again and broken more records at Junior Worlds next year.) July 1 – This season or next, ten-year-old Yuuri has a 'Matrix' program. (Kubo art exhibition) July 8 – Emil turns 4 July 15 – JJ turns 5 August 2 – Leo turns 5 August 18 – Minami turns 3 September 13 – Michele and Sara turn 8 October 31 – Otabek turns 4 November 29 – Yuuri turns 10 December 25 – Victor turns 14 December 26 – Georgi turns 14 --- 2003 Yakov turns 57 Celestino turns 32 Mila turns 5 Hiroko turns 36 Toshiya turns 41 Mari turns 17 Takeshi turns 11 Yuuko turns 12 January 7 – Guang-hong turns 4 February 14 – Chris turns 12 March 1 – Yuri turns 2 April 30 – Phichit turns 7 June 6 – Seung-gil turns 7 July 8 – Emil turns 5 July 15 – JJ turns 6 August 2 – Leo turns 6 August 18 – Minami turns 4 September 13 – Michele and Sara turn 9 October 31 – Otabek turns 5 November 29 – Yuuri turns 11 December 25 – Victor turns 15 December 26 – Georgi turns 15 --- 2004 Yakov turns 58 Celestino turns 33 Mila turns 6 Hiroko turns 37 Toshiya turns 42 Mari turns 18 Takeshi turns 12 Yuuko turns 13 January 7 – Guang-hong turns 5 February 14 – Chris turns 13 March 1 – Yuri turns 3 April 30 – Phichit turns 8 June 6 – Seung-gil turns 8 July 1 – IRL, as of this season, the ISU begins replacing the 6.0 scoring system with the IJS scoring system, after the 2003 GP senior series tried it out. Major competitions change over immediately, but some smaller competitions continued to use 6.0 this season. The change was made mandatory for all competitions in 2006. Victor wins gold and sets a world record for Junior men with his score. (ep1) (Note: In some sources, like Yuri on Life and the magazine article shown briefly in ep1, this is stated as happening when Victor was 15, putting this event in 2004 instead, though that contradicts Yuuri thinking about this performance while talking about how Victor was at the top of the world when Yuuri was 12.) April 30 – Phichit turns 9 Unknown – Victor gives an off-season interview with a Japanese magazine, which Yuuri and Yuuko read. (ep1) Unknown – Sometime after reading the interview with Victor, Yuuri adopts Vicchan. Judging by Yuuko's summer uniform, this adoption happens between the beginning of June and the beginning of October, but it's not stated for sure if that happens this year or a year or two later. (ep1) June 6 – Seung-gil turns 9 July 8 – Emil turns 7 July 15 – JJ turns 8 August 2 – Leo turns 8 August 18 – Minami turns 6 September 13 – Michele and Sara turn 11 October 31 – Otabek turns 7 November 29 – Yuuri turns 13 December 25 – Victor turns 17 December 26 – Georgi turns 17 --- 2006 Yakov turns 60 Celestino turns 35 Mila turns 8 Hiroko turns 39 Toshiya turns 44 Mari turns 20 Takeshi turns 14 Yuuko turns 15 January 7 – Guang-hong turns 7 February – Victor wins the Olympics (not directly stated, but he appears to have one of the distinctive Torino medals in gold). (ep10) February 14 – Chris turns 15 March 1 – Yuri turns 5 April 30 – Phichit turns 10 June 6 – Seung-gil turns 10 July 1 – Yuuri is old enough for his first season as an international junior. At some point, he competes with Chris in at least one junior competition, although he has never won over Chris up through the beginning of the show. (official bio) (Although Chris is already doing senior competitions this season, he is still eligible to do junior competitions for a few years at this point, and it is not uncommon to do both. He may have competed as a junior at a smaller competition, done the junior GP series instead of the senior one, or been sent to Junior Worlds instead of or in addition to senior Worlds.) Victor has been training with Yakov since at least this season, though we don't know for sure when Yakov started coaching him; he may have become Victor's coach much earlier. (Yuri on Museum art) (See the continuity note in January below.) Chris has been coached by Josef since around this point. (Yuri on Life) July 8 – Emil turns 8 July 15 – JJ turns 9 August 2 – Leo turns 9 August 18 – Minami turns 7 September 13 – Michele and Sara turn 12 October 31 – Otabek turns 8 November 29 – Yuuri turns 14 December 25 – Victor turns 18 December 26 – Georgi turns 18 --- 2007 Yakov turns 61 Celestino turns 36 Mila turns 9 Hiroko turns 40 Toshiya turns 45 Mari turns 21 Takeshi turns 15 Yuuko turns 16 January – Victor, who still has long hair, wins gold at Euros, held at the Palais des Sports de Lyon in Lyon, France. Chris and Victor meet for the first time. Chris, in his first season as a senior and already training with his current coach, calls out to him; Victor throws him a tulip that turns into a rose and suggests they meet again at Worlds. (ep7) (IRL, this event was held January 17-22.) (Note: Yuri on Life says this happens 'ten years ago', but also that it happens when Victor was 17, which would put this in 2006 instead. However, in that case, Chris would have been 14 and too young to compete at either Euros or Worlds, though he could do the senior GP series as the age rules were different at this point.) January 7 – Guang-hong turns 8 February 14 – Chris turns 16 March 1 – Yuri turns 6 April 30 – Phichit turns 11 June 6 – Seung-gil turns 11 July 8 – Emil turns 9 July 15 – JJ turns 10 August 2 – Leo turns 10 August 18 – Minami turns 8 September 13 – Michele and Sara turn 13 October 31 – Otabek turns 9 November 29 – Yuuri turns 15 December 25 – Victor turns 19 December 26 – Georgi turns 19 --- 2008 Yakov turns 62 Celestino turns 37 Mila turns 10 Hiroko turns 41 Toshiya turns 46 Mari turns 22 Takeshi turns 16 Yuuko turns 17 January 7 – Guang-hong turns 9 February 14 – Chris turns 17 March 1 – Yuri turns 7 April 30 – Phichit turns 12 June 6 – Seung-gil turns 12 July 8 – Emil turns 10 July 15 – JJ turns 11 August 2 – Leo turns 11 August 18 – Minami turns 9 September 13 – Michele and Sara turn 14 October 31 – Otabek turns 10 November 29 – Yuuri turns 16 December 25 – Victor turns 20 December 26 – Georgi turns 20 --- 2009 Yakov turns 63 Celestino turns 38 Mila turns 11 Hiroko turns 42 Toshiya turns 47 Mari turns 23 Takeshi turns 17 Yuuko turns 18 January 7 – Guang-hong turns 10 February 14 – Chris turns 18 March 1 – Yuri turns 8 April 30 – Phichit turns 13 June 6 – Seung-gil turns 13 July 8 – Emil turns 11 July 15 – JJ turns 12 August 2 – Leo turns 12 August 18 – Minami turns 10 September 13 – Michele and Sara turn 15 October 31 – Otabek turns 11 November 29 – Yuuri turns 17 December 25 – Victor turns 21 December 26 – Georgi turns 21 --- 2010 Yakov turns 64 Celestino turns 39 Mila turns 12 Hiroko turns 43 Toshiya turns 48 Mari turns 24 Takeshi turns 18 Yuuko turns 19 The triplets are born January 7 – Guang-hong turns 11 February 14 – Chris turns 19 March 1 – Yuri turns 9 April 30 – Phichit turns 14 June 6 – Seung-gil turns 14 July 8 – Emil turns 12 July 15 – JJ turns 13 August 2 – Leo turns 13 August 18 – Minami turns 11 September 13 – Michele and Sara turn 16 October 31 – Otabek turns 12 November 29 – Yuuri turns 18 December – Someone other than Victor wins the GPF and he also does not win Nationals. (ep1) December 25 – Victor turns 22 December 26 – Georgi turns 22 --- Unknown – At some point prior to the current season, JJ apparently tries training with Leo and his coach, and with Celestino. Years unknown. (ep12) Apparently this is while he was still competing as a junior. He also helped Otabek learn a quad salchow around this time when they were rinkmates. (Yuri on Life) Unknown – Yuuko and Takeshi get married, and she changes her family name away from Toyomura. (Setting Material Collection) (IRL, the rate of children born outside of marriage in Japan is quite low, so they are likely to have gotten married before the triplets are born, but nothing is stated for sure.) --- 2011 Unknown – Yuuri's last visit to Hasetsu. (ep1) Yakov turns 65 Celestino turns 40 Mila turns 13 Hiroko turns 44 Toshiya turns 49 Mari turns 25 Takeshi turns 19 Yuuko turns 20 The triplets turn 1 January – Someone other than Victor wins Euros. (ep1) January 7 – Guang-hong turns 12 February 14 – Chris turns 20 March – Someone other than Victor wins Worlds. (ep1) March 1 – Yuri turns 10 April – Yuuri begins whatever his degree program is at Kii Gakuin Daigaku (presumably located in historical Kii/the Kii peninsula, mostly covering present-day Wakayama prefecture). (ep1) April 30 – Phichit turns 15 Summer – Yuri transfers to Yakov and attends his summer camp. Otabek is there as well; he can't keep up with the other juniors and instead is put with the novices. He struggles with ballet but notices Yuri's determination. (ep10, Yuri on Life) (Adding to the continuity snarl around Otabek's age: while both the show, Go Yuri Go, and Yuri on Life (both books give his age as 18) say he's a first-year junior here, technically he's too young, at least at the international level – he would have to turn 13 before July 1 to be old enough, and he's still 12 until October of this year. So, either he is actually 19 during the show, or the writers simply forgot/didn't care about this point of the rules and just subtracted 5 from his age during the show.) June 6 – Seung-gil turns 15 July 1 – Yuuri starts his final season skating in junior competitions. (official bio) July 8 – Emil turns 13 July 15 – JJ turns 14 August 2 – Leo turns 14 August 18 – Minami turns 12 September 13 – Michele and Sara turn 17 October 31 – Otabek turns 13 November 29 – Yuuri turns 19 December – Victor wins both the GPF and Nationals. (ep1) December 25 – Victor turns 23 December 26 – Georgi turns 23 --- Unknown – At some point, Yuuri moves to Detroit, USA and studies abroad while training with Celestino as his coach. Unknown if Phichit is already there or if he arrives later. (ep1) Unknown – At some point after Yuuri starts training with Celestino, the first version of Yuri on Ice is composed, but he doesn't end up using it. (ep4) Unknown – At some point while he is training with Detroit, a rink mate is injured in an accident. While waiting at the hospital, a girl Yuuri knows tries to comfort him with a hug and he shoves her away. (ep4) Unknown – At some point in his years in the novice age range (<13), Yuri begins receiving state aid for his skating, which he uses to help support his family. (official bio) Unknown – After the training camp with Yakov's group, Otabek trains in Russia, then the US and Canada, before he returns to Almaty in 2015. (ep10) Unknown – At some point before GP Russia 2016, Seung-gil lands the first ratified quad loop in competition. (ep8) Unknown – At some point while he is a junior, Emil meets the Crispinos. (Yuri on Life) --- 2012 Yakov turns 66 Celestino turns 41 Mila turns 14 Hiroko turns 45 Toshiya turns 50 Mari turns 26 Takeshi turns 20 Yuuko turns 21 The triplets turn 2 January – Victor wins Euros. (ep3, Blu-ray booklet 2) Victor wins the GPF and Russian Nationals for the fourth year in a row. (ep1) December 25 – Victor turns 26 December 26 – Georgi turns 26 Unknown – Yuri jumps a quad salchow instead of his planned triple sal at a junior competition. Yakov yells at him for putting his developing body in danger. Victor, who now has short hair, makes him a promise that if he wins Junior Worlds (note: some sources list this as the Junior GPF, but Victor says Worlds in the show) without any quads, he'll choreograph a program for him for his senior debut. (ep2) (The year is not stated in the episode, but as Victor's promise implies that Yuri hasn't won Junior Worlds yet, and he was a two-time winner, he is probably twelve or thirteen. Supplemental material (Go Yuri Go, Blu-ray booklet 2) refers to him being a junior, in which case he'd have to be thirteen, or outright says two years ago when he was a junior (Yuri on Life). While the wiki has this listed as occurring when Yuri is twelve, I can't find any source that says that; I suspect a fan writing the article decided he looked twelve in the flashback.) --- 2015 Yakov turns 69 Celestino turns 44 Mila turns 17 Hiroko turns 48 Toshiya turns 53 Mari turns 29 Takeshi turns 23 Yuuko turns 24 The triplets turn 5 January – Victor wins his fourth Euros title in a row. (ep3, Blu-ray booklet 2) While the medalists are at the medal ceremony, Yuuri sees an article about his mental weakness and potential retirement just after midnight on the 13th, local time. (ep1) Yuri and Yuuri meet for the first time. Afterward, Victor offers to take a photo with Yuuri while they're still at the arena. (ep1) Either the next day or the day after that, the banquet occurs. Yuuri gets very drunk and ends up in a dance battle with Yuri, pole-dancing with Chris, and dancing with Victor, while Mila and Sara take pictures in the background. He asks Victor to be his coach. He doesn't remember any of this due to the amount of alcohol he drank. (ep10) Yuuri later does poorly at All-Japan (Nationals) and after taking eleventh place (ep4) ends his season there. (ep1) Celestino does not accompany him to Nationals. (ep4) Minami places above Yuuri at Nationals (ep4) and in fact took third place (Yuri on Life, Blu-ray booklet 3), but he does not go to any senior competitions (official bio, Blu-ray booklet 3). Victor wins Russian Nationals for the fifth year in a row. Emil sets a personal best in the free skate and was first after the second group finished skating. (ep1) (IRL, this event was held March 30-April 3.)
April – Team Challenge Cup occurs in Detroit. (ep4) (No date stated in the show; IRL this was April 22-24.)
April 10 – the video is posted. (ep1)
11? 12? (Yuuri's line about turning off his phone implies that Victor's arrival may be the next day, but the date is not clearly stated) – Victor is seen off at the airport by Yakov (ep2). He arrives in Hasetsu (ep1), while news in Russia starts saying that he's taking the season off to coach Yuuri and choreograph his programs after seeing the video. (ep2) While Victor is sleeping after his first dip in the onsen, Yakov gives an interview to the press about him. (ep2) AlexSeanchai pointed out that due to time zones, sunset times, and airline times, we can infer that Victor did not arrive on the 10th; arriving on the 11th would be possible but requires a very tight turnaround.
Unknown – Victor takes and posts a photo of himself in front of Hasetsu Castle. The press descends on Hasetsu. (ep2)
One week afterward – Yuri arrives in Hasetsu and posts a photo of himself there. Yakov immediately calls (in the middle of an ice session, even) to yell at him. After Yuri shows up at the Ice Castle and demands Victor make good on his promise, Victor announces he'll choreograph for both of them and have them compete at an ice show in a week. Yuuri does figures at the Ice Castle that night to calm his nerves. (ep2)
The next day – Victor picks Eros for Yuuri and Agape for Yuri and begins teaching them the choreography. He tells them that he won't choreograph their (other?) programs if they aren't at a satisfactory level at the end of the week. (ep2)
Yuri and Yuuri spend the next week training with Victor and starting to learn what Agape and Eros mean to them. (ep3) At some point, Yuri takes a photo with the Katsukis + Victor + Minako. (ep10) At some point, Victor, Yuuri, and Yuri light fireworks together. (ending sequence)
The day before Onsen on Ice – Yuri and Yuuri pick their costumes, and Yuuri rings Minako's doorbell late at night to ask for an extra lesson.
One week after Yuri's arrival – Onsen on Ice occurs. Yuuri is declared the winner and Yuri decides to return to Russia. (ep3) The Nishigooris see him off at the airport and take a photo with him. (ep4)
(AlexSeanchai points out that if we can take the moon phase seen when Yuuri runs off after embarrassing himself by declaring katsudon his eros as indicative of the date, Yuuri was running on around the 2nd/3rd of May, and Onsen on Ice probably occurred around May 6th. This would put Yuri's arrival on April 29th and Victor's post on the 22nd.)
April 30 – Phichit turns 20
Unknown – Mila starts dating a hockey player. At some point before Yuri returns to Russia, they break up. (ep4)

October (early date, unknown) – Yuuri takes part in a press conference about his theme/goals for the GP series and announces his theme as 'love'. (ep5) (IRL, this was on October 2 in 2016.)
October 21-23 – Skate America, the first GP event in the show, occurs. Leo is in first place, followed by Otabek in second, Guang-hong in third, and Phichit in fourth. (ep6) (Note: These GP dates are not really stated in the show, only the order and the fact that GP Russia ends slightly before Yuuri's birthday on November 29 (ep9). However, IRL, the GP Final is held on the second weekend of December, with a two-week break between that and the last GP event, so I have gone with that timing. The dates also only include the competition days + the day of the exhibition.)
October 28-30 – Skate Canada occurs. JJ is first, Yuri second, and Emil third. (ep6)
October 31 – Otabek turns 18

Guang-hong's final placement is not shown in the show, but supplementary material says he finished in fifth. (Yuri on Life) This is the first GP victory by a south-east Asian skater. (ep11) Phichit takes selfies on the podium and with all of the named male characters and their coaches. (ep10)
November 11-13 – NHK Trophy occurs. Otabek wins, his first GP competition victory. (ep11) He is followed by Seung-gil and Michele. (ep8)
November 18-20 –Trophée de France occurs. Chris wins, followed by Sir Notappearinginthisshow McGenericface and Georgi. (ep8)

26th: Yuuri doesn't speak with Yakov at practice before the free skate. Nikolai brings Yuri his newly invented katsudon pirozhki. The skating order for group two in the free skate is Emil, Michele, Seung-gil, Yuri, Yuuri, and JJ. Mila and Sara watch from the stands, along with Georgi. Emil lands his first quad loop in competition. JJ wins, followed by Yuri, Michele, Yuuri, Emil, and Seung-gil in sixth. Yuri shares his katsudon pirozhki with Yuuri. (ep9) (Note: Sara says that Mickey doesn't have to come support her in her free skate 'tomorrow'; however, Rostelecom is always two days, with all the disciplines having their short/free programs on the same days.)
Unknown – Yuri makes katsudon pirozhki for Lilia and Yakov at some time between GP Russia and the GPF. (ep10)
November 29 – Yuuri turns 24
December – (Probably November 30-December 3) – Shortly before the GPF, Yuri goes to Golden Spin for more competition experience. He wins, with Someguy McNameless in second and Guang-hong taking bronze. (ep11) (IRL, in 2016, Golden Spin almost completely overlapped with the GPF, but in some years, it has been held about a week prior.)
Unknown – JJ proposes marriage to his girlfriend. Yuri on Life states that this was shortly before the GPF, and this is also implied by Yuuri seeing pictures of them showing off the rings on social media after arriving in Barcelona. (ep10)
December 8-11 – The GP Final is held in Barcelona. This is the first time qualifying to the GPF for Phichit and Otabek. (ep11, ep12) Mila and Sara have also both qualified, and Michele and Emil show up for Sara. (ep10)
Unknown, possibly December 6 – Yuri arrives in Barcelona. Otabek goes out for dinner alone. Phichit parts from Celestino to take pictures around the city. Chris and Victor talk and take pictures at the hotel pool, then go bother Yuuri. (ep10)
December 7 or 8 – After attending an official practice, Victor and Yuuri go sight-seeing, visit a Christmas market, and exchange rings in a church. Meanwhile, Otabek and Yuri makes friends. They meet up and have dinner with Mari, Minako, and the other competitors except for JJ. Yuuri learns about the previous year's banquet. (ep10)
December 8 or 9 – Victor goes to the beach early in the morning. Yuri also shows up. (ep10)
December 9 – The men's SP occurs late at night. Georgi goes out with an unknown woman. (ep10) After the short program, the placements are Yuri in first with a new world record for the SP score, followed by Otabek, Chris, Yuuri, Phichit, and JJ. Minako and Mari go to a bar with Celestino afterward. Yuuri does his 'let's end this' to Victor. (ep11)
December 10 – Men's FS occurs. (Continuity error: Morooka says that Yuuri hasn't practiced publicly since 'the day after the short program' and only returned to the public practice that morning. However, if the date on Seung-gil's phone in ep10 is correct, there has not been a day between the SP and the FS. So, either the SP and 'let's end this' actually took place on the 8th, or Morooka's comment is wrong. Go Yuri Go also states that the 'let's end this' conversation took place the night before the free skate, and there's no obvious given reason for Yuuri to skip a public practice without the fight having taken place.) JJ lands his first quad loop in competition. The final results are Yuri in first place, followed by Yuuri with a new world record FS score, JJ, Otabek, Chris, and Phichit. Victor tells Yakov that he has decided to come back in time for Nationals. (ep12)
That night, Yuri goes looking for Otabek. Mickey, Sara, Emil, and Mila find him and give him Leo's phone number. Chris is sleeping, apparently alone. Guang-hong helps him out. After finding Otabek, he changes his program last-minute. (WTTM manga)
December 11 – The GPF gala happens. Yuuri and Victor do their pair skate. (ep12) Phichit is not in the gala, while JJ goes just before Victor and Yuuri. Yuri does WTTM. (WTTM manga)
