inktober day 24: a certain bug boy

My listening to @re-dracula has been a fascinating experience. Initially, I kept up pretty well, basically through the first main arc of the story.

Then I didn’t listen to any podcasts for about 2 months. Dunno why, just took a break. (And possibly was far more emotionally distraught with my good friend Jonathan’s cliffhanger that, even knowing the story, I couldn’t bring myself to continue right away).

So I spent 2 separate chunks of time this month getting caught up: first right before Lucy’s final rally, and the second today, so that I’m current and can celebrate “Vamp Team Unite” Day.

The absolute horror of the story is so much more powerful in chronological order. And then adding in the voices- my heart utterly broke for Arthur in a way it hadn’t in previous readings of the text (I also had the privilege to teach it for 2 years at my last school). It puts the speed of everything in perspective when you have the daily sense of it in your own life.

And knowing what comes in just a few days… I dunno if I’m ready or if any of us is.

I’ve said in my discussions about Dracula that it’s no coincidence that Arthur inherits his title before Lucy’s demise. Lord Godalming- so close to “God Almighty.” It’s very fitting for someone who has to then go up against the undead, the only one who can put his true love’s soul to rest. It fits too with Seward’s description of Arthur in the moment of the staking.

Mina’s importance can’t be overstated. She figures out so much, and helps facilitate their plans because she realizes how important even the smallest details are in this story, how clearly the evidence lines up and corroborates Van Helsing’s accounts and knowledge of Dracula. I dunno if I’ve ever felt this terrified approaching the next major story beat before. For all their talk of keeping each other in the light, they immediately begin to hide knowledge that could prevent even more pain. Tho, I suppose that’s part of the horror, isn’t it?

Also, can I just say, the sound design and the dialogue editing and every single performance: absofuckinglutely bravo to every single person working on this project.

Short update I'm steadily making progress on my catch up, just finished Earth meeting Evil Lunar and BOY the implications in everyone meeting various evil counterparts... ANYWAYS I saw the thumbnail of Dark Sun confronting Sun and I WANT TO WATCH IT NOW

Atlin Wins Second Four Continents Title

Can the two-time World Champ be defeated?

As Kazakhstan’s Otabek Altin continues his quest for a third World title – he is the second skater in the last ten years to win multiple titles – can he be defeated? Altin has been undefeated this season so far and doesn’t seem to have any plans to stop. The 25-year-old skated two clean programs, scoring 110.32 for his short and 213.68 for his free, for an overall score of 324.00. “I am, of course, thrilled to win gold here,” said the two-time Grand Prix Final Champion. “It wasn’t easy – it was a very high-level competition. I look forward to the fight at Worlds.”

Reigning Olympic Champion Jean-Jacques Leroy of Canada held on to win silver. The 25-year-old also skated two clean programs. He scored 108.35 for his short and 212.44 for his free, for a total score of 320.79. The eight-time Canadian National Champion said, “I feel very good about how I skated and about going into Worlds. I’d love to be on the podium, but ultimately, I want to feel proud of how I skated.” He often has problems with anxiety and nerves.

2022 World Champion Seung-gil Lee of South Korea barely missed out on silver. The 26-year-old scored 106.73 for his short program and won the free skate 213.85. His total score was 320.56, only .19 less than Leroy’s score. “It was very close,” the 26-year-old agreed.  “I’m looking forward to Worlds. It should be a very good competition, and I will do everything to defend my title.” It remains to be seen, though, if Altin can be stopped.

Leroy Wins Ninth National Title in Dominating Fashion

Leroy brothers go 1-2 for fourth straight year

CALGARY, AB – Jean-Jacques Leroy won his ninth straight national title by a dominating almost twenty-eight points. The reigning Olympic Champion scored 112.72 for his short program and 225.38 for his free skate for an overall score of 338.00, the highest score of the season by any skater so far. “I’m so happy to be able to do this kind of skate at home,” said the 26-year-old. “I know I can go and win Worlds, and it’s at home in Canada this year. I’m going to do everything I can to make my country proud of me.”

Younger brother Louis Leroy won his fourth straight silver medal. The 22-year-old scored personal best scores of 102.87 and 207.37 for the free skate and an overall score of 310.24. “I’m just looking for great performances at Four Continents and Worlds,” said the former Junior World silver medalist. “I’m thrilled with how I’ve performed here, and have been working very hard with my coaches.” Leroy is coached in Japan by Olympic Gold Medalists Yuuri Katsuki and Viktor Nikiforov.

Teenager Justin Hwang captured a surprise bronze medal here at the event, though well below his countrymates. His scored personal best scores in all three events – 88.98, 143.17 (only fourth in the free skate), and 232.15 overall. “I am so happy for this medal,” said the 18-year-old. “I knew I could, but to actually win a bronze medal at Nationals, to be a National medalist, is amazing.” Hwang will be looking to have two more good performances at Four Continents to secure a first-time time trip to his home Worlds.

It's gotta be the Brecilian Forest for me, especially the elven ruins. It has some of the most beautiful scenery, I really love all the quests, and it just feels soothing to me. Even though I don't actively think about it as much as, say, Denerim or Haven or Ostagar, I think it's probably the portion of the game I actively enjoy playing the most and the reason why I always think of it as my "rest and recuperate" area.

at the end of the day when it comes to padmé i think it’s really important to remember that her closest friends are literally her employees. her only other friends are her coworkers. her closest friend for years was a girl she met at 14 whose job it was to pretend to be her and potentially die about it. another friend with the same job died in her arms while pretending to be her. she does not have friends outside of her squad of employees who pretend to be her and sometimes die about it and then her politician coworkers. too many of you are way too surprised that this woman is not normal about love or relationships or her own self considering all this

why aren't there more mysteries that take place in nursing homes & retirement communities. i want to watch a group of deranged retirees-cum-amateur-detectives combine their powers of:

decades of life experience

boredom-fueled busybody shamelessness

access to the most gossipy next-door-neighbors in existence

"I am too old to be arrested and/or give a shit" attitude

and solve crimes. this should be an enormous subgenre.
