Oracle!Tim has a wheelchair, but hates using it. He loudly insists he doesn’t need to when almost anyone suggests it. He can get around just fine on crutches, and it’s bad enough the way people treat him like that; he refuses to have them literally looking down on him.

Except, see, the thing is… he does need it. By the end of the day navigating on his crutches, Tim hurts. His back is screaming from the shoulders down, his spine feels almost swollen with how it takes over his senses (burning, throbbing, every click & grind of bone like having a knife wedged between the vertebrae,) the skin on his legs feels like it’s trying to crawl off his body, and there’s sharp needles of pain shooting through his leg muscles. If Tim spends the day on his feet/moving around a lot on his crutches, he’s going to spend the next 3 nights trying to be Oracle while flat on his back on the floor. (Tim does try to get around this by having wheelie chairs in all his offices and just not walking around much, but if the weather turns cold or a big storm blows in, even that won’t help.)

He gets better about it over time. Cass drags Tim into helping with her specific charity work, helping other disabled kids in Gotham. Tim ends up giving interviews in which he talks about being an ambulatory wheelchair user, how he’s treated when he goes out in the chair, how people act like it’s all a horrible lie if they ever see him get up from it, and how it combines with Tim’s own pride & internalized ableism to lead to him gritting his teeth and just pushing through. “It’s not worth it,” he tells Vicki Vale, a rueful smile on his face. “It’s never worth it, to go home and lay on the floor in too much pain to move, just so the people at the grocery store don’t see me in my chair. But I do it anyway, and I’m probably going to keep doing it… so if you see me out in public, please ask me if I’m being stupid, because there’s a good chance the answer is yes.” People laugh. Vicki calls him brave for talking about it. Tim says if he can raise just a little attention, make people a little more aware of how they treat people in (and out) of wheelchairs, he’ll have done something good.

Then he goes home. Lays on the floor. And tries not to cry while one of his loved ones rubs tiger balm into his back, because no, people don’t understand, it fucking hurts.

At the end of every month, Barbara clips the highlights of every patrol and turns them into timelapse videos. There are two kinds:

1. The coolest moments, like a particularly dramatic door kick or an insane flip

2. The most embarrassing moments, like when they get hit and land face down in a dumpster or when Jason’s voice modulator breaks mid sentence

• charming and attractive, it’s hard to not fall in love with dick grayson. he’ll flirt and send compliments someone’s way, effectively tampering with their feelings. it’s no surprise when you find yourself having romantic feelings for him.

• despite your best efforts to keep your feelings hidden, dick starts noticing the little things—how you laugh at his jokes a bit too eagerly, how your eyes linger on him a bit longer, and how you're always there to lend a hand.

• as you spend more time together, you can't help but be more obvious about your feelings. you find excuses to be near him, offer to help with his missions, and bring him coffee during late-night patrols.

• one day, during a particularly dangerous mission, you do something reckless to save him. that’s the final push he needs to confront and confess his feelings for you.

• both of you had feelings for dick, but he ultimately chose you. after he made his decision, she began to act extremely cold towards you.

• despite this, you constantly went out of your way to ensure that she didn’t feel left out. you included her in activities and made an effort to show her that your relationship with dick didn’t have to affect your friendship with her.

• she becomes jealous when she sees you and dick together and for the longest time, she thought she was jealous of you because you were him. she soon realizes that she was actually jealous of HIM because he was with you.

• during the times when dick was busy with his duties as nightwing, the two of you would often find yourselves alone together. these moments of forced proximity brought you closer, and that’s when she started to develop feelings for you.

• you start to notice subtle changes in her behavior around you. she becomes more attentive, goes out of her way to spend time with you, and shows a genuine interest in your well-being.

• she struggles with her feelings for you, torn between her loyalty to dick because of their friendship and her growing love for you.

enemies to lovers

• you hate jason, he hates you. just the thought of him irritates your whole being, shakes your bones in anger, his name leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.

•this man will NEVER stop bothering you, he likes to see you stressed out and angry, but he lowkey thinks it’s cute that’s why he likes to piss you off.

• you intrigue him, when he started to bother you he was legit hating on you but as time flew by, he somehow liked your attention on him.

• being an annoying piece of shit= your attention.

• despite your differences and the fact that you and jason mixed like oil and water, on in the field, you guys grudgingly tolerated each other, working together to take out your enemies.

• the tension between the two of you is so thick that during mission briefs, bruce has to seat you guys across the room from each other, unless he wants to hear mumbled insults back and forth and glaring between you guys.

• the rest of the bat family teases the two of you relentlessly because they’re convinced that you guys are the perfect match for one another (they’re absolutely right).

• when he finally realizes that he has feelings for you, he tries to convince himself that he doesn’t in fact like you romantically but that he was just admiring your skills in the field.

• he actually finds himself looking out for you on missions, even though he won’t be upfront about it.

• he becomes somewhat awkward to be around, and the rest of the bat family immediately capitalize off this to bully him with it. but regardless, he finds himself drifting towards you a bit more, and picking up on some of your habits. as much as he hates to admit it, he wants to know more about you.

timothy "tim" drake

friends to lovers

• tim heavily values trust and loyalty. as friends, you’ve always been someone he can rely on, whether it's sharing secrets or working through problems together.

• despite being one of his best friends, he isn't overly expressive with his emotions. he shows his affection through small, thoughtful gestures – bringing you coffee, remembering your favorite snacks, or staying up late to help you with something.

• he gradually comes to the realization that he has feelings for you. once it hits him, he begins to avoid you, trying to process everything.

• however, he starts to get like physically sick because he misses you so much. plus, you called him to ask if they'd done anything wrong and the pain in your voice was too much for him to bear.

• it was impossible to ignore the change in his behaviour. for one, he couldn't speak to you in person without his face turning blindingly red. plus, not only does he struggle to look you in the eye, but he is also CONSTANTLY stuttering around you.

• when you decide to confront him about it, he kind of just blurts out that he’s in love to you. much to his genuine surprise (but literally no one else's), you told him that they loved him too.

• sometimes, he feels like an idiot for not saying or doing something about it sooner. you frequently tease him for not having picked up on his own feelings sooner— but for once, he graciously accepts it.

• after your ex breaks up with you, steph devises a plan to get back at them and make them jealous.

• the two of you were already best friends so it couldn’t be that hard. right? RIGHT?

• you’re both aware that damian doesn’t buy your little arrangement one bit. he just doesn’t believe that the two of you are dating because you’re such good friends. (and they were roommates!!!)

• steph has this raging pride when it comes to damian, so she’s made it her personal mission to convince him that you and her are actually dating.

• it takes a while for you two to get into the hang of it, but once you do, it’s like a regular routine.

• steph would definitely fall for you first. she’d hide her feelings behind your little charade, until the fake dating stuff starts extending into the time you two share together when no one else is watching.

• she still gravitates towards you on the couch when everyone has left after dinner at your place, pressing kisses to your cheek when she leaves even though everyone else is already gone. there’s no need to continue acting like this but she does.

• the fake dating thing really starts hurting her because she thinks that you don’t really like her like that (you do) but its nice to pretend that you do in those moments, that it’s all real even though its not.

• the people who know of your secret knows that steph has fallen for you (except for steph herself, and you because you refuse to believe it).

• like, come on, she’s your BEST FRIEND (side eye). the two of you are idiots in love.

• the moment she realizes she’s in love with you is on another one of those dates that you both know you don’t have to go on but still choose to have anyway (your ex is already clearly jealous).

damian: "it’s amazing how you have eyes but never see the use of them."

The batfam have a mandatory dinner once a month where everyone has to turn up no exceptions. One day Tim is about 20 minutes late and when he finally shows up he's in full Caroline get up, hes in heels, he's got the wig on, a full face of make up, the whole getup and none of the batfamily had any prior knowledge of Tim going out as Caroline so it takes them a minute to realise that Caroline is Tim. Tim apologies for being late says he was getting information and had no time to go home and change without risking being even later.

For the record, I believe Oracle!Tim has a wheelchair (with thick cushions & extra back support), he just refuses to use it 90% of the time because he’s a stubborn, prideful bastard who puts everything above self-care and nothing bothers him more than the sense other people are looking down on him (which is bad enough when he’s on his crutches, so he’ll do anything he can to avoid using his chair in public.)

This 100% bites him in the ass on the reg, and he absolutely has a VR setup so that he can still be Oracle when he hurts too much to do anything but lay on the floor. (Personally, I’m picturing a cool sci-fi headset that’s half helmet/half overly complex goggles a-la Widowmaker and high-tech sensor gloves so Tim can navigate his systems with a twitch of his fingers, but if you want to picture him looking like a dork with like, an Oculus or something strapped to his head, that is 100% valid.)

the little engine

Timothy Drake was running on fumes. Whatever drive he'd had- whatever divine fuel that had once pushed him through sleepless nights and unwinnable fights- it was gone. Used up.

It left a chasm in his gut, the phantom burns of righteous fire and the knowledge that no matter how tired he was- he couldn't stop.

There was a slow escape of blood oozing from his ruined cuticles, like sap bleeding from a weather-beaten pine, it smeared onto the faded letters on his keyboard. His fingers didn't cease their frantic tapping, every fifth tap erasing the previous three. He couldn't think right. None of the words or numbers were the right ones, but he had to do this- he couldn't stop.

His eyes flickered across his darkened apartment to the framed pictures of his friends, fuck, he hadn't spoken to a single one in days. Between patrols, board meetings, city works projects, and cold cases he hadn't slept more than twenty total hours in the past week. They must hate him by now, he had sworn to message everyone but the great Timothy Drake was incapable of keeping a promise. His eyelid ticked as he downed the rest of his coffee in one go. It didn't matter if he was a bad friend, a bad brother, a bad son- he had a job to do, and he couldn't stop.

There was pain now, wrapping around his skull like a vice. He tugged at his hair and scrubbed his face with bloody fingers, grimacing at the tacky feeling of half-dried scabs. It felt like he had been maced, his eyes burned so horribly. But he clicked send on another solved case and opened the next, there were people out there that depended on him- he couldn't stop.

The sun was rising at his back, its warmth adding to the uncomfortable sweat that had started beading on his skin. A stray beam of light caught his darkened computer screen, and for a horrible split second- he saw himself.

If you were to ask him what happened next, he would smile an odd half-smile and say he finally took a nap.

But that wasn't entirely true.

The glimpse of his face- the heavy bruising under his eyes, the way his bones stood out against his skin, the cracked and bloody lips- it poured ice cold water on whatever embers had been left in his chest. He snapped his laptop shut and pushed it away, launching up from the table and shoving his chair several feet back. Air flooded from his lungs and tears, hot and acidic, carved their way down his face into the cuts on his lips. He careened to the floor in his kitchen, heaving and gasping- he couldn't breath but he couldn't stop.

Hours later, he would wake up again in darkness. The moon auspiciously absent in the sky, Tim Drake would see the dozens of emails marked URGENT, the notes from Oracle about suspected movements, the texts from friends asking how he was- and he would force himself to get off the floor. Because Timothy Drake was a hero, and he couldn't stop.

Ya know what I wanna do?

I wanna read and/or make a fanfic type thing where it's one of those recipe blogs with massive life stories before the actual recipe, except instead of me being the author, its either Dick Grayson and he's telling stories of cooking with Alfred or cooking for Jason/Tim/Damien/literally any of his baby birds/bats or its a recipe his parents would make for him before they died and so he makes it sometimes to feel close to them again OR it's Alfred's blog and hi stories are embarrassing stories of Bruce growing up (helping build Brucie Wayne as someone Bruce has been his entire life) or stories of how he'd always make this certain dish for dinner parties thrown by Thomas and Martha Wayne before their deaths or how he'd make this particular soup for Bruce's adopted children when they were sick growing up.

I tried to draw an illustration for the first fight scene of the protector chapter 5 but as it turns out I am not good enough for mid-air side profile battles yet, so have this magical girl AU semi-transformation batkid picture. Barbara is transformed in that picture, unfortunately I realized after drawing her facepalming that the outwards sign of her semi transformation, which needs to be discreet as she often uses it in public, are multicoloured smoke coming out of her eyes and mouth, which I couldn't draw with that pose. I'll try to make quality art of it sometimes though.

Fun fact: the fictional magical girl anime this AU takes place in is called "Starlight Lullaby" and spawns over more than fifteen 30 45 minutes episodes long seasons plus one reboot and two movies. It follows the adventures of the batfam, with some arcs centered around one character and some arcs putting the highlight on relationships and the family as a whole as they fight supervillains, mend their relationships and interact with dc superheroes with the powers of love and semi-sentient Gotham-specific constellations.
