Sometimes I feel bad about not being able to keep the characters names straight in these books, and then I hit a paragraph like this….
#mxtx novels#mo dao zu shi#that’s before we even get into characters that referred to as three or four different names by different people#Lan Zhan Lan Wangji and Hanguang Jun are ALL THE SAME PERSON.

What finally pushes Wei Wuxian into a qi deviation isn’t the fact that Jiang Cheng showed up to hate-crime him and Lan Wangji, but the fact that Wei Wuxian showed up with the best of intentions—informing his dead guardians of his intentions to marry—just to be goaded into attacking their son in front of their tablets, the highest form of disrespect he could’ve performed in front of them. That Jiang Cheng could drag him down to such a level as to engage in something so disrespectful when Wei Wuxian showed up specifically to pay his respects is why it should not surprise anyone that Wei Wuxian’s last thoughts on Lotus Pier is that he wants to leave and never return:
It was only proper to show respect for the deceased. After all, they were at an ancestral hall.
...
Jiang Cheng was exactly who Wei WuXian had wanted to avoid; the last person he wanted to be seen by. Now that Jiang Cheng had found him, he knew he probably couldn’t escape fast enough without having harsh words flung his way. Wei WuXian didn’t want to start any unnecessary conflict, so he said, “I didn’t bring HanGuang-Jun anywhere that contained the Lotus Pier’s secrets. I’m just here to offer a few incense sticks to Uncle Jiang and Madam Yu. We are just leaving.”
—Chapt. 87: Core (Part 9), boat-full-of-lotus-pods
He turned to Jiang Cheng and said, “Jiang Cheng, listen to yourself. Do you even hear what you’re saying? Don’t forget who you are. You’re the leader of a sect. To insult a fellow cultivator from one of the Four Great Sects in front of Uncle Jiang and everyone’s memorial tablets. Where are your manners?”
...
All three of them had weapons out in front of the ancestral hall now. Jiang Cheng’s eyes were bloodshot as he snarled, “Fine! If you want a fight, then let’s fight! You think I’m afraid of you two?!” But just a few strikes later, Wei WuXian remembered, startled, that they stood before the ancestral hall of the Yunmeng Jiang Sect. He had only just knelt and prayed in front of Uncle Jiang and Madam Yu for their protection a few moments ago. And now he was attacking their son with Lan WangJi right under their nose! As if a bucket of cold water had just been dumped over him, suddenly, spots appeared in front of Wei WuXian’s eyes and his vision darkened.
...
Wei WuXian did not answer him. Instead, he said, “Lan Zhan...... Let’s go.” Immediately. And never come back.
—Chapt. 88: Core (Part 10), boat-full-of-lotus-pods
Tellingly enough, Jiang Cheng does not hold the same sense of shame in the fact that he instigated a physical fight in the resting place of his ancestors nor that his intentions weren't to maintain decorum when he followed wangxian into the ancestral hall to begin with. In fact, he is fueled by rage to the point of irrationality before he even steps foot into the ancestral hall, so much so that he cannot even accept wangxian disengaging from the fight and attempting to leave on their own:
All the signs pointed to the same conclusion—there was now something more between Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi. Unable to make himself turn away or step forward to speak to them, Jiang Cheng had concealed himself and followed after them, reinterpreting their every exchange and gesture through a coloured lens. Feelings of disbelief, strangeness, and slight, mild disgust had momentarily been enough to overcome Jiang Cheng’s hatred. It was only when Wei WuXian had brought Lan WangJi into the ancestral hall that Jiang Cheng’s anger reawakened. The repressed, overwhelming rage consumed his rationality and manners.
...
Lan WangJi harbored no more desire to continue the fight with Jiang Cheng. Wordlessly, he pulled Wei WuXian onto his back and turned to leave. Jiang Cheng was plagued by alarm and suspicion. He was alarmed by the terrifying sight of blood suddenly oozing out of Wei WuXian’s qiqiao. Yet he was suspicious of whether the man was faking it for an excuse to run away. After all, it was a prank that Wei WuXian had pulled quite often in the past. At the sight of the two men leaving, Jiang Cheng called, “Stop!”
—Chapt. 88: Core (Part 10), boat-full-of-lotus-pods
#mdzs#jiang cheng#canon jiang cheng#human metas mxtx#it's actually funny in a sad sort of way how many times this section stresses#just how important and sacred the ancestral hall is#that it is a place of peace and tranquility that must be respected#just for fandom to come in and say that jc running loose at the mouth in front of his parents' tablet is A-ok#because being gay in front of dead people is the highest level of disrespect#higher than insulting your allies and respected individuals in front of those same dead people#higher than hate-criming someone#but hey what do i know? not like it's in the book how important this place is or whatever

Wei Ying swirled his drink around with his straw, the ice softly clinking against the clear glass. "They don't believe us. That's the only conclusion we've ever been able to come to Uncle." he responded, hesitantly looking up at the elder. "Uncle, you and the Wen siblings are the only people who believe Wei Ying and I are together, that we are married. Summary: Wei Wuxian comes back from the dead after six years, and he's exactly like anyone remembers him, but also entirely different. He has a different face, the same smile, a less conspicuous laugh, the same worn t-shirts of obscure bands Lan Wangji doesn't try to listen to at full volume because he cares too much about his hearing. He is not the version of him Wangji obsessed over in the past six years of insomnia, the Yiling Patriarch with a mind poisoned by dark magic, but he's not the boy he fell in love with, either. Having him back would would be an impossible type of joy, endless and complete, if Wei Wuxian was not avoiding him.

💠💙happy not knowing
By:plonk
Summary:
The cultivation world is rebuilding from the wreckage of the Sunshot Campaign, but Wangji and his shield brother Wei Wuxian are still completely attached at the hip. It is sad that Lan Xichen’s brother is stuck in the youthful pattern of - ah, no polite way to say it: exchanging handjobs with his shield brother - rather than moving on to more adult pursuits.
On the other hand, now that the war is over, Wangji does seem so much more open and happy than he was as a boy. He smiles sometimes, mostly at Wei Wuxian. Once, he even took an afternoon off. So Lan Xichen can let Wangji’s closeness with his shield brother lie for a time, while he finishes maturing.
Chapter:1/1
Words;16,407
Status:completed
Qin Su only just finished finding herself a husband, and her first choice turned out to be her own brother. Her track record isn’t great. But! It turns out that her brother-in-law is already married! Goodness, Qin Su really dodged an arrow there.
~~
“Good,” Lan Zhan says, likely thinking the exact same thing. “Now. Wei Ying, beloved of my heart, my spouse, my soulmate, let us go see our son. Whom we have raised. As married co-parents.” Lan Xichen startles.
~~
In addition to making certain public displays, Lan Wangji also refers pointedly to Wei Ying as his husband and to A-Yuan as their son.
~~
“Your husband, yes,” Lan Xichen says. He grew tired of hearing Wangji refer to Wei Wuxian as though he is the most titled lord in all the land - Wei Ying, my husband, to whom I am married, and with whom I am raising our son, A-Yuan, whom we co-adopted, as his married parents - within days. Then, after about a month, it became rather funny. Who knew that sustained outrage was all that was needed to bring out a sort of absurdist humor in Wangji? The humor value faded within a year or so, after it became routine. Now, Lan Xichen simply expects Wangji to refer to Wei Wuxian this way. He has forgotten, for the most part, that Wangji used to just call his husband Wei Ying, and that he still refers to him as such with other people.
Lan Xichen sighs and says, “Thank you, Wangji. I look forward to seeing you and your husband of several years, Wei Wuxian, and your co-parented son, A-Yuan, at dinner in your family home two nights from now.” Wangji gives a sharp, approving nod - a warning nod, Lan Xichen might say, were there such a thing - and marches out. Presumably to go spend time with his son, A-Yuan, who is also Wei Wuxian’s son, because they co-parent him, because they adopted him together, because they are married to each other.
~~
“My daughter is not married. Is your brother?” Sect Leader Yao asks. Lan Xichen gestures between Wangji and Wei Wuxian - currently canoodling on the steps of Koi Tower - and says, “Why, Sect Leader Yao, Hanguang-Jun is already married." Summoning all of the ability to lie that he has, he adds, "I cannot imagine why a person might think otherwise.”

Wangxian modern crime au where:
Lan Wangji, or Hanguang-jun, is a famous crime boss, and Yilling Laozu is said to be his 'worst enemy'.
But Wei Ying, Wei Wuxian, is an artist, boba shop owner, and the love of Lan Wangjis life. (That man has killed MANY people for this boy.)
Wei Wuxian does not know that Lan Zhan and Hanguang Jun are the same person. or, at least, he's not supposed to.
Wei Ying has one of the most powerful crime bosses, other than himself, wrapped around his finger, and he knows it. He swings his hips and bites his lips like he does not know what it does to people—to Lan Zhan, Hanguang-jun—like hes all innocent and couldn't possibly have killed most, if not all, of the Qishan Wen group single-handedly with his own kin.

Flow as Feng Shui
by WhiteTeaFlavored Lan Xichen held a reputation as the most diplomatic of the clan leaders. But to uphold it without unbalancing gentleness and firmness, there was a heavy price: sacrificing his personal feelings. After the Guanyin Temple episode, he spent 2 years in seclusion. Hanguang-jun offered to assume the leadership in the meantime, amidst his new responsibilities as both husband and father. The social consequences of such a resolve were inevitable – people would question why Zewu-jun, of all people, would be so coward as to forsake the clan when it most needed him, and so cruel as to assign his role to his didi when the latter had only recently married the one whose comeback he'd waited for 16 years without fail. Yet, Hanguang-jun was just as compassionate as he was patient, and stated, “if I’ve endured 16 years, 2 more won’t break me. As long as you take this time to heal, brother, and write to me often.” Xichen promised, then, to work on his shortcomings and deepen his knowledge on many subjects -- to come back stronger, renewed, certain to not make the same mistakes, and shut every venom-spilling mouth. what is best friend's squad and hello dolly and healer's hands?
you have a knack for picking out the ones that are the most different from each other lmfao i love that.
best friend squad is an au of the untamed where wei wuxian doesn't go back to cloud recesses with lan wangji--he actually manages to convince lan sizhui and lan jingyi and the other juniors to let him help with their investigation, so they never call in hanguang-jun to help. this is my wei wuxian/lan sizhui/lan jingyi agenda.
excerpt:
Wei Ying is thoroughly ignored. He retracts every charitable thought he's had about Lans since they arrived. "I mean," he says, louder, trying belatedly to infuse eagerness, reliability, into his tone, "you don't need to bother him at all. I can solve the problem." He'll gladly sacrifice his poor-crazy-Mo-Xuanyu image in exchange for not dealing with Lan Zhan. For a second it looks as though they'll continue to ignore him, though, and Wei Ying curses himself for so efficiently becoming unremarkable. How far the great Yiling Laozu has fallen. How far Wei Wuxian, first disciple of his generation, pride of Yunmeng Jiang has fallen. To be slandered and defamed, vilified, cursed for all eternity by everyone he's ever loved? That's one thing. To be tossed aside as totally useless? That grates. Sure, he brought it on himself, but the act is over now. Can't these Lans keep up? But the second-in-command turns to him, then, disdain etched across his sour face. "You? You can solve this problem?" Wei Ying was waffling between thinking of him as the fun one and the rude one, and finally makes up his mind. The nice one is quicker on the uptake, though, and quells his shidi with a raised hand, tilting his head consideringly. "They're your relatives," the Lan says. "Do you know something about what they've been getting involved with?"
meanwhile, hello dolly is a word of honor rpf hello dolly au hfkdfhskfhdjfh i don't have a decent snippet to share right now since it's in the planning stage and kind of on the backburner but i thought it would just be really fun to cast junzhe in an au as a stingy old rich business person and the free-spirited jack-of-all-trades matchmaker hell bent on marrying him.
and third, but far from last, healer's hands is a character study of wen kexing and how he uses his hands. in lieu of an actual writing excerpt i will give you a snippet of my breakdown that inspired it, just to shake things up:
it's less "he kills with these hands but when it's time to heal, he's also gentle"
it's less a duality, and more...he kills with the hands of a healer. as much as anything else. as much as he heals with them, as much as he loves with them. he doesn't turn the healer in him off even at his most violent and it shows.
he knows how to channel energy very, very well through his hands. he's extremely aware of them and how they interact with the world. his primary tool and primary weapon, more than even his fan. it's not accidental or unconscious. it's very deliberate.
he knows what energy to push through them to snap a neck or to cradle it, he knows how to play music and warm a flask of jiu. he automatically reaches to check for a pulse, to check meridians, to channel healing qi. and it's all part of the same thing--that fine-tuned hyper-awareness, specifically of his hands and the myriad ways they can affect those around him.
he makes things very personal. he doesn't shy away from intimacy even in violence. he accepts it, relishes it. he turns that ease and efficiency with which healers learn to touch and he flips it around, taking the tools and skills of his parents' legacy, the future that zhen yan should have had, and using it!! the only way he could in the place he grew up!!!

Crush
After dealing with some (boring, if you ask him) sect business in Gusu, young sect leader Jin Ling decided he should pay a visit to his uncle Wei Wuxian as well. He was around, anyway and, after all, Jin Ling held great admiration for both his uncle and his husband, Hanguang-Jun, not to mention it would have been rude for him not to drop by before making his way back to Jinlintai.
It was only Wei Wuxian tinkering about in the jingshi by the time Jin Ling arrived, Lan Wangji still caught up with teaching classes to juniors, so the two sat at the table and shared tea (regretfully not wine, because Jin Ling still had official business in the area).
"So... I have something to ask you..." Jin Ling began, trying not to look like an embarrassed 15 year old and live to the courage his almost 20 years of age should have brought him.
"Oh? What is it? Is someone giving you trouble? I can kill them if you want. Or at least put the fear of God in them."
Jin Ling made an incredulous face. "No, nothing like that. And I can do that myself now, just so you know."
"You don't look that scary to me." Wei Wuxian laughed, sipping his tea. "So what's up then?"
"...if I were to, theoretically, like someone-"
"Wait, is it Jingyi?" Wei Wuxian interrupted, a bit too excited. "Please tell me it's him, I have this bet with Lan Zhan, and he thinks it's Zizhen but I think it's Jingyi, and if I win-"
"Oh my God, this was a mistake..."
"Or... is it Sizhui?" Wei Wuxian took on a slightly more serious stance. "If it's Sizhui, then this conversation might go a bit differently."
Jin Ling really wished he had some wine in his cup at that moment so he could have downed it all.
"I'm not telling you who it is! And I'm only asking you cause uncle Jiang is useless at this kind of stuff and you're married so I guess you should know how to go about stuff like that..."
Wei Wuxian sighed, a bit sheepish. "I'm glad you trust me for advice on this but, um, you do know how Lan Zhan and I confessed and got together, right? I mean, don't get me wrong, it worked out for us amazingly and I love Lan Zhan very much but it took us 13 years, two lifetimes and a life or death situation to realize our own feelings as well as each otber's... so I don't know what you expect me to say to you."
"Oh. Right. But anyway it's not like I have anyone else to ask so give me an idea at least."
"Hm, you could just go on an old fashioned date night? Have something to eat, you both like drinking..."
"Stop assuming it's Jingyi!"
"Force of habit!" Wei Ying laughed again and Jin Ling had enough self control not to crush the cup in his hand.
"You should be sober when expressing your feelings." Lan Zhan's voice suddenly came, the man having nearly soundlessly entered the jingshi and heard the two talking.
Wei Ying wanted to laugh a bit. Considering their history, that was quite a funny thing to come out of Lan Zhan's mouth.
"Hanguang-Jun." Jin Ling bowed slightly. "I actually agree with that, I doubt alcohol is a good idea in such situations."
"You should find a quiet, private place and confess your feelings."
Wei Ying wanted to laugh again but decided to hide in his tea cup instead, Lan Zhan almost glaring at him when his grin nearly became laughter. He would get teased about this for sure after Jin Ling left.
"There is no need for grand gestures. Be open and honest, and if the person you fancy does not return your feelings, accept the rejection with grace."
Wei Ying leaned his chin into his palm, a smirk playing at his lipsm "You're an expert at this relationship stuff, huh, Lan Zhan."
The tips of his ears dusted pink. "The youth should not make the same mistakes we did." Then, addressing Jin Ling again, "Good luck in your endeavors."
"You'll definitely need it." Wei Ying added and this time started laughing for real, the expression on his nephew's face too similar to Jiang Cheng's not to find it amusing.
--
"Who is it?" Lan Zhan asked after they'd bid goodbye to Jin Ling a few hours later.
"I have no idea, he wouldn't tell me!"
Lan Zhan looked only a little disappointed. "We will find out soon enough."
"Yeah, I guess so..." Wei Ying opened a jar of wine and unceremoniously gulped almost a half of it before speaking again. "Anyway, I'm still sure it's Jingyi."
Lan Zhan undid his forehead ribbon and tied it around one of his husband's wrists before taking the jar of wine and drinking some himself. "Wei Ying should not be so confident while being wrong."
Wei Ying let himself be dragged into bed. "And Hanguang-Jun should not be so sure his opinion is fact, either."
Lan Zhan decided not to say anything and silenced Wei Ying with a kiss instead.

TGCF & MDZS Crossover And MDZS Characters in TGCF Universe, Somehow SVSSS got into this as well? Headcanons
Okay, so I was just browsing through MDZS headcanons and I thought of this really quickly. Let me know if anyone else thought of something similar or something because omg
MDZS Characters in TGCF Universe
Wei Wuxian was never found by Jiang Fengmian. Instead, he dies in the streets (killed by dogs? or starvation, anything really), but his soul lingers. Que a thousand years later, he's a calamity, and he's still carrying a small rattle drum with him, remembering a small boy who gave it to him when he was still alive.
Lan Wangji continues his life. He ascends (maybe in the middle of the war, since Wei Wuxian isn't there with his demonic cultivation), and becomes a heavenly official.
A thousand years later, Lan Wangji meets Wei Wuxian once again, and remembers a boy he once met in Yilling. Wei Wuxian's first thought upon meeting Heavenly Official Hanguang-jun is "So heavenly officials can look like gods." or something along those lines.
Yanli is a calamity. Simply because she's amazing, she died in the war and still had people she cared about that she needed to care for, so she stayed and later on became a calamity.
Wei Wuxian is worshipped as a god (by most people, despite being a ghost) because he has a heart of gold and ended up accidentally taken in an entire horde of children.
Wei Wuxian, despite being a very powerful ghost, still lives in a cave, of all places, and absolutely loves the stories people make about him sacrificing children and kidnapping virgins. It makes him cackle. No, these people do not know that the god they worship and the calamity they fear is the same person.
(Okay, I haven't read TGCF yet, not fully anyway, so I'm not sure if this is possible but) Wei Wuxian found a way to get into the Heavenly Capital and comes frequently to wreak havoc and bother Lan Wangji once he found out who he was.
Wen Ning is a ghost, Wei Wuxian's right-hand-man turned babysitter. Seriously, though, he's amazing. He and Wei Wuxian are a force to be reckoned with.
TGCF & MDZS Crossover (And later SVSSS)
Basically the same thing as above, EXCEPT
Wei Wuxian finding Hua Cheng and forcing him to be friends with him.
He Xuan coming to Paradise Manor for money and food only to find another calamity sleeping in Hua Cheng's bed, and a child that Hua Cheng is reading a bedtime story to.
The child was someone Wei Wuxian found on the streets and decided to adopt. Hua Cheng was resigned.
Hints of HuaWei but Hua Cheng's devotion to Xie Lian is not to be questioned. Wei Wuxian is gone the moment he meets Lan Wangji again.
He Xuan thought Wei Wuxian was Hua Cheng's wife/husband and that he procreated (as a ghost? somehow) passed out.
He came to, things were explained, and he just decided to leave that alone.
Wei Wuxian still lives in a cave, but it's significantly more fancy because Hua Cheng just decided to fuck it and threw even more very expensive stuff at Wei Wuxian.
The first time Hua Cheng calls Wei Wuxian his brother, he does so by accident, and Wei Wuxian brings it up periodically to embarrass him. Hua Cheng, in return, brings up all the times Wei Wuxian mumbled "Lan Zhan" in his sleep.
He did it once in front of Lan Wangji. Wei Wuxian made sure he hasn't had a moment of peace since then.
Wei Wuxian and Xie Lian are best friends. Their husbands do not like each other.
The amount of trouble the two of them get into (mostly by accident) is bad enough that Hua Cheng and Lan Wangji start getting along.
Wei Wuxian finally meets Shi Qingxuan. Never again.
Ling Wen shares the last remaining brain cell with Yanli and Wen Qing, who is the god of medicine (because of course she is).
Several people are gone, though, so a moment of silence for them.
Jiang Cheng and Mu Qing get into a screaming match at least once a week.
The absolute chaos that ensues when Shen Qingqiu presses the wrong button, and he and Luo Binghe are dropped right into the middle of a dinner between the most powerful ghosts and gods in existence.
This entire post made me cackle just imagining it.

And more tidbits I liked from Chapter 48 of Mo Dao Zu Shi (ExR translation)
Although Lan XiChen looked almost exactly the same as Lan WangJi, Wei WuXian could tell them apart with just a glance.
Awww.
Hearing Nie MingJue praise Lan WangJi’s level of cultivation, Wei WuXian felt a strange surge of happiness, ChiFeng-Zun, what a great eye!
Wei Wuxian taking pride in Lan Wangji’s accomplishments is so cute.
In reality, back then, their relationship wasn’t as utterly incompatible as the rumors say, but there were some trivial clashes. At the time, Wei WuXian went around digging graves all the time, while Lan WangJi always chose the most vexing of vocabulary, such as how it wasn’t a righteous path and harmed both the body and the mind. He even straight up hindered Wei WuXian at times.
I need more information here. ‘Hindered’ him how? What did Lan Wangji do? Hide his shovel? Argue with him while he was digging up graves? Play calming music to try and prevent the corpses from rising?
Someone spoke, “From my opinion, HanGuang-Jun really doesn’t have to do this. Even the living are close to being dead, so why should we care about those corpses?”
Another person agreed, “Yes, we’re in harsh times, right? Sect Leader Jiang is right. In terms of evil or not, who’s more evil than the Wen-dogs? He’s on our side anyways. I say it’s fine as long as he’s killing the Wen-dogs.”
Wei WuXian thought, Well, that wasn’t what you guys said when you brought the siege on me.
Ah, look at that, the hypocrisy of the cultivation world on full display.
ZeWu-Jun is actually quite good at holding conversations, so why is Lan Zhan so bad at it? Well, although this is the case, being quiet is great as well. I do all the talking, and he can just listen along and add in a few ‘mnn’-s. What was this called again…
Wei Wuxian comparing Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen before deciding he likes how Lan Wangji is more will never not be amusing to me. Like, he’s just so much more attached to Lan Wangji and it’s adorable.

Honestly the deeper I get into this fandom the more I think that LWJ is the character who people least understand. WWX’s actions and reasonings are misunderstood by a lot of people, but I feel like his main character traits/flaws/quirks are still apparent in most of the fandoms metas or writings about him. Metas/writings about LWJ always feel like a coin toss: will you get novel!LWJ, who has depth and personality? or will you get some random guy who’s quiet and likes rabbits?
Hahah It's true they don't get Lan Wangji at all!!! Just to clarify WWX has quirks but no flaws* lol. Back to LWJ though, It's so sad because he's hilarious and fascinating and brilliant. His character is wonderful:
I guess a lot of people believe the murder of the remaining Changs were Xiao Xingchen’s revenge, right? Hanguang Jun, what about you? What do you think?”
Lan Wangji shook his head slowly. “Without the complete picture, I cannot comment.”
Wei Wuxian deeply admired his friend’s attitude, his principles and his way of handling affairs. Beaming, he drank another mouthful of liquor. (Chapter 30)
and then there's the sass!
Quietly, he said, “Hanguang Jun, help me ask what this place is, what it’s used for, and who built it.”
Lan Wangji was a master of the qin language. He did not require any time to think before his steady and reliable hand plucked a couple of pure, clear notes. After a moment, his guqin’s strings sounded a couple more times on their own. Wei Wuxian asked hurriedly, “What did it say?”
“I do not know,” Lan Wangji said.
“Huh?”
Nonchalantly, Lan Wangji repeated, “It said, ‘I do not know.’”
“…” Wei Wuxian looked at him, suddenly remembering how, many years ago, they had had a similar conversation about “Suibian.” He rubbed his nose, speechless. Lan Zhan’s grown up too much. He’s even learned how to make me choke.
PHRASING! jk Anyway, WWX is hilariously peeved that he can't get the same reactions from Wangji he would get out of him when they were young!
Upon seeing Lan Wangji turn a deaf ear to his antics, Wei Wuxian continued playing with the sash while thinking to himself, I didn’t expect Lan Zhan’s desire to avenge himself upon me to be this strong. He’s now trying to get back at me for each and every time I teased him back in the day, and is determined to prevent me from having any fun. This is a bit too much personal growth. Not only has his cultivation improved, his formerly thin skin has as well! (Chapter 25)
and genuinely excited when he sees it's still the same Lan Wangji!
Honorable Hanguang Jun, this Wei fellow has no intention of heaping discredit upon you, but without me, you’d be hopeless, making inquiries this way. If you managed to learn anything, now that would be strange.”
These words were perhaps a bit rude, but Lan Wangji’s gaze softened, and he uttered a quiet “mm.”
Wei Wuxian laughed. “‘Mm? What ‘mm?’ Even after that, still ‘mm?’” But his stomach leapt with joy as he silently criticized Lan Wangji. He only knows how to say ‘mm.’ Turn’s out he’s still boring after all! (Chapter 28)
Mmmhmmm. I think one of the worst mistakes people make about LWJ's character is to make it seem like LWJ needed Wei Wuxian to come into his life to become a righteous person when it's not the case at all. The reason WangXian makes sense is because they're the same on the inside.
This should be clear because we see plenty of proof of Wangji's cleverness and righteousness from the Cloud Recesses arc - he takes the same punishment as Wei Wuxian; to the Xuanwu cave- he doesn't let Mianmian get used as turtle bait and is enraged at Sushe's behavior; He doesn't try to take credit for defeating the beast; In the Lotus pod extra we even get a glimpse of all the little acts of kindness he performs casually with no expectations-
The old woman, “Young Master, the lake doesn’t let anyone inside at night. If you want to go, you should hurry up and get there before dusk.”
Lan WangJi repeated, “Thank you.”
Just as he was about to leave, he saw the woman hold her thin bamboo pole high up in the air, unable to knock down a branch stuck under the roof. With a point of his finger, his sword energy struck the branch off, and he turned around to leave. (Lotus Pod)
Although he was warned that he needs to hurry or he won't be able to pick lotus pods he still stops in a field to help an injured farmer.
The young man single-handedly lifted the roof even four farmers couldn’t!
A few moments later, one of the farmers whispered something to the others. With only some hesitation, they proceeded to carry the wounded man over. When they went inside the shed, all of them glanced at Lan WangJi. Lan WangJi looked straight ahead. After they let the person down, two people came over, “Y-… Young Master, let go of it. We can do it.”
Lan WangJi shook his head. The two farmers insisted, “You’re too young. You won’t hold out.”
As they spoke, they raised their hands, wanting to help him with the roof. Lan WangJi only glanced at him. He didn’t say anything, only retracting some of the strength he exerted. At once, the farmers’ expressions changed.
Lan WangJi turned back around, letting his strength flow back. Embarrassed, the farmers went back to squatting.
He also doesn't want to harm the spirit that's haunting the shed:
It was this spirit that made the roof abnormally heavy, unable to be lifted by ordinary people no matter what.
Lan WangJi didn’t bring the tools used to liberate spirits. Since the creature had no intent to harm others, of course he couldn’t beat its soul apart without a care. As of the moment, it looked like he wouldn’t be able to persuade it to let down its hanging corpse, either, so he could only prop up the roof for now. He’d report it afterward and sent people to deal with it. (Lotus Pod exr)
These moments seem so simple on the outside but they paint such a clear and lovely picture of his character and how complementary his and Wei Wuxian's world views are. As MXTX wrote in her postscripts:
"Both WWX and LWJ are highly ideal characters, so there wouldn’t be too much dispute on their moral standing. They’re perfect as the protagonists...
All of their character elements were created in binary opposition. The bold and the principled, the concealed yearning and the flaunting coquetry, the red rose and the white rose, the cold, dignified one and the devilish, untamed one… The more different they were, the better. Still, their core was the same."

I'm absolutely delighted your prompts are open! Your writing is amazing and always makes me smile, it's the best way to start the day along with a cup of coffee!
Lan Zhan and Wei Ying are given another chance at raising a child after a family is killed leaving only a young child behind. Lan Sizhui is delighted to have a baby sibling. Though everyone is more or less nervous about it (mostly be Wei Ying is a gremlin) but also there isn't any other options.
ao3
“It’ll be fine,” Jiang Cheng said, rolling his eyes. “Hanguang-jun raised Lan Sizhui, didn’t he? And he turned out fine.”
“I did,” Lan Sizhui said agreeably, then frowned. “I think I did, anyway.”
“Not to be a spoilsport, but, realistically speaking, how much raising did Hanguang-jun actually do with you?” Jin Ling asked, and held up his hands when Lan Sizhui and Lan Jingyi both glared at him. “I don’t mean any offense or anything! I’m serious. We know he was in seclusion those first few years, right? Who raised you then?”
Lan Sizhui thought about it. “Back in the beginning? Well…that was mostly Teacher Lan, I guess.”
“Teacher Lan’s the best,” Lan Jingyi said loyally, then added, “Well, other than that fondness he has for surprise quizzes. But that’s not applicable to parenting, is it?”
Lan Sizhui made a face that suggested that maybe it was, in some weird way, shape, or form.
“Teacher Lan, really?” Jiang Cheng asked, clearly getting drawn in despite his best intentions – as was often the case. There was a reason their little group swung by the Lotus Pier nearly as often as they did the Cloud Recesses and Jinlin Tower, despite Jin Ling not living there part of the year any longer. “Wasn’t he mostly in recovery for those injuries he got during the war? I would’ve figured Zewu-jun would’ve been more involved, wouldn’t he?”
“He was around sometimes, but no, it was mostly Teacher Lan,” Lan Sizhui said. “Zewu-jun was often busy – he was rebuilding the Lan sect –”
“I was rebuilding the Jiang sect! So what? I still raised Jin Ling, and he wasn’t even supposed to be here – I had to fight the Jin sect for months just to get the opportunity – ”
“Yes, jiujiu, we know!” Jin Ling said hastily. “You don’t have to tell that story again! You didn’t have to tell everyone that story in the first place!”
Jiang Cheng huffed. He was probably going to tell the story again whether they liked it or not.
“I think I see what you’re saying, Jin Ling,” Ouyang Zizhen put in, always a good fellow for throwing himself on a conversational sacrificial sword. “If Lan Sizhui was already a few years old when he was adopted, and then Teacher Lan raised him for the next three years, then he would’ve been old enough to be entered into the Cloud Recesses’ official junior classes by the time Hanguang-jun took charge of his education, right?”
“Yes, that’s what I meant, that’s it exactly!”
“What does it matter?” Lan Sizhui asked.
“Yeah! Hanguang-jun still raised him the rest of the way,” Lan Jingyi put in, crossing his arms over his chest and glaring. “Gave him lessons and tips and all that!”
“Isn’t that something he does as a sect senior anyway?”
“Well, yes, but it’s different for Sizhui, okay?”
“I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with that. After all, the person who teaches the most is the same as the parent, and being the person raising them is what matters no matter when they’re adopted,” Jin Ling said, with an eye on Jiang Cheng, who looked begrudgingly pleased. He looked begrudging all the time, though, so it was probably just pleased. “But my point is – once you were part of the lessons, even if he was raising you the rest of the time, you still already mostly had your personality down by then, right? We’ve never seen what someone raised entirely by Hanguang-jun from birth would be like.”
They all stopped to consider that.
“More than that,” Jin Ling continued. “This kid’ll be raised not just by Hanguang-jun, but by Hanguang-jun as he is now – after he and Senior Wei got together. You know?”
They did know.
“And of course, that’s all putting aside that the kid will be raised by Senior Wei himself, too…”
“Maybe we should start investing in defense talismans,” Jiang Cheng mused. “Because everything is going to explode. Everything.”
-
“Everything will not explode,” Lan Wangji said calmly.
“Are you sure?” Wei Wuxian asked. “Because I’m not sure, and I’m more likely to be involved in these hypothetical explosions than you are.”
“Mm. I’m certain.”
“But…”
“Wei Ying will be an excellent father,” Lan Wangji said, and his voice left no room for doubt.
“It’s easy for you to say,” Wei Wuxian whined, though he was smiling now. “You already have the experience of it! They say that it’s easier the second time, when you know what to expect…”
“Do not tell lies,” Lan Qiren said mildly. He was looking over some of Wei Wuxian’s notes – he’d insisted on any new inventions passing through a sanctioned approval process before they were put into practice and had volunteered himself to review them, a matter that had caused Wei Wuxian no end of stress until he realized that Lan Qiren really did intend to approve anything that met his standards and, moreover, understood musical cultivation enough to understand what he was driving at with most of them, even the esoteric ones, at which point Wei Wuxian gotten extremely enthusiastic about the whole thing.
This didn’t mean that they were friends or anything, but they’d at least formed some sort of tentative truce.
Most of the time, anyway.
Wei Wuxian squinted at his old teacher suspiciously. “What’s that supposed to mean? Are you saying that it’s not easier the second time?”
“I am only saying that I have experience in raising a child not my own,” Lan Qiren pointed out, and Wei Wuxian nodded, slightly abashed; he knew that the old man had basically raised Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen, of course, although sometimes he forgot. “The first child I raised was Xichen and his personality as a child was much as it was as an adult: gentle, amiable, friendly, obedient.”
That made sense. Wei Wuxian nodded.
“The second child I raised was Wangji,” Lan Qiren said. “He bit people.”
Wei Wuxian burst out laughing.
Lan Wangj virtuously ignored them both, continuing to write a letter without the slightest hint of embarrassment – even his ears hadn’t turned red. What a shame!
“I can testify to that myself,” Wei Wuxian giggled, leering at his husband in the hopes of getting a rise out of him. “He’s still a biter – for certain lucky people.”
“He was a lot less discriminating when he was younger,” Lan Qiren said, and Wei Wuxian winced, abruptly remembering that Lan Wangji’s uncle was, in fact, still in the room. Luckily it was pretty easy to flirt around Lan Qiren, who didn’t seem to notice most of the time, but it was still a bit awkward. “And I once succumbed to temptation and gave him mixed messages, which I believe made it worse.”
That sounded like a story.
“He gave me a candy after I bit Sect Leader Jin,” Lan Wangji clarified, which made Wei Wuxian start laughing again. “He did not expect me to remember. I remembered. Nor did I allow him to forget about it.”
“It is easy to make mistakes while raising a child,” Lan Qiren said, ignoring Wei Wuxian’s cackling. “But if one means well, and tries hard to do the right thing, children are very forgiving – usually.”
Despite his best efforts to remain neutral, Lan Wangji’s eyes curved slightly in a smile. Wei Wuxian felt his heart go all warm and melty all over again.
“This is true regardless of whether it is the first or second child,” Lan Qiren added. “I have confidence that you will both do fine.”
“We will,” Wei Wuxian proclaimed. “With parents like me and Lan Zhan, how could the kid go wrong? And we’ll even try to avoid too many explosions!”
“Please do. One Lan Jingyi is enough for the Cloud Recesses.”
“You know, I was wondering – how did you end up with him being quite so…hmm…”
“Oh?” Lan Qiren said, and Wei Wuxian noted to his amusement that Lan Wangji straightened in back in sudden alarm despite Lan Qiren’s extremely nonchalant tone. “Have you not met Lan Yueheng yet? I must introduce you when he returns –”
“Perhaps not,” Lan Wangji said, sounding a little worried.
Worried, in this case, meant fun.
“No, I think I definitely need to meet this person – Lan Zhan, stop batting at me! I know exactly what I’m doing…”
-
Wen Ning looked down at the baby with which he had been entrusted.
“I don’t have any idea what I’m doing,” he confessed.
The baby gurgled.
“I think Wei-gongzi may have been thinking more about ‘babysitter that doesn’t need to sleep and has inexhaustible energy’ and less about ‘is this person qualified to take care of a baby’.”
More gurgling.
“I just wanted to apologize in advance.”
The baby yawned.
“…right then.” Wen Ning straightened up. Someone was going to have to raise this child, and based on how distractable Wei Wuxian was when he was around Lan Wangji and visa versa, it looked like it was going to have to be him. “Let’s do this.”

Failed ritual AU:
The self-sacrifice ritual has failed and Wei WuXian has been brought back from death as a ghost that only Mo XuanYu can see and hear. With the beginning of a friendship, both decide to go in search of the most significant remnants of Wei WuXian to complete the ritual without XuanYu having to die in the process. On the way they are interrupted by the encounter with HanGuang-Jun and the mysterious case of the corpse arm. Their main mission will be put on hiatus to deal with this mystery. After all... Repairing the ritual does not have a time limit. Or does it?
Mo XuanYu liked dogs, what's more, he was very sure that he was a dog person. Having one was a wish that he still could not fulfill, due to the circumstances in which he had always been involved, so he had considered commenting on this to Wei WuXian later, for him to weigh it since they would live side by side. Well, he no longer needed to ask him anything, the answer jumped before his eyes —rather his poor ears— when that loud, terrified screech resounded just for him. “No...! No, help! XuanYu! Lan Zhan!” Wei WuXian screeched, forgetting all decorum and dignity as he ran around his friend, since as soon as the dog noticed it to his misfortune, she also tried to go after him which became a nightmare with which he could not try. “Help! She wants to bite me! She wants to bite me! Put her away!” Mo XuanYu didn't even have a chance to ask what was the cause of such a scandal over a simple dog since the specter kept screaming practically begging him to get away from her, and not only that, but he could sense that Wei WuXian fear was so great that apparently the bond was doing its thing forcing Mo XuanYu to feel part of that terror, making him back away. He did not remember seeing anything about these animals in Wei WuXian memories. What had he missed? It did not matter, solving that question would not be for now, because now he also felt the enormous need to escape from the canine as if it had never seemed to her the adorable little ball of hair that he saw at first. Who knew a ritual and a connection could screw him up so badly. I-I wanted to pet her, it's not fair! "A-Ah ... AAHH! HanGuang-Jun! HanGuang-Jun!” "Lan Zhaaaan! Save us! Help!” Finally catching a glimpse of the second master Lan was a miracle, so he wasted no more time and ran to stand by his side, barely grabbing onto his arm to avoid Fairy, something a little more subtle on his part than his ghostly friend who was nothing to climb on Lan WangJi’s back like he was tree. Mo XuanYu wondered what HanGuang-Jun would be thinking about it if he could see Wei WuXian. Wei WuXian couldn't care less. He couldn't handle the fear. Seeing or even hearing the barking of those horrendous four-legged beings was enough to terrify him totally, returning his memory to those times when he fled through the desolate streets of Yiling, with several of that type chasing him.
I come with a new concept drawing! The scene that I wanted to draw was the one that takes place when Wei WuXian meets Jin Ling in the market (You know, when Jin Ling throws a merchant away, scene that I would like to draw later) and is scared by the presence of Fairy.
I don't think I explained it before so I'll say it here so there is no confusion.
The ritual being incomplete, also for the same reason it made an incomplete connection between WWX and MXY. WWX does not have the body of MXY, however they are now linked by a bond that does not allow WWX to stray too far from MXY and that allows them to share memories and emotions. If the emotion is very strong, it can affect the other, although not on a personal level. MXY knows that he is not afraid of dogs, but the fear of WWX is so strong and intense that he is affected by it.
They continue to have their emotional autonomy, they simply know what the other feels.
As for the memories... It works similar to Empathy. MXY can sometimes view the most significant memories from WWX and can voluntarily and unintentionally show his own, and vice versa.
The situation of WWX and MXY is supposed to be a secret at this point, so LWJ has no idea that the real WWX is a ghost hovering around them.

💙 What Comes After Love by Rainbow_Horizon
💙 What Comes After Love
by Rainbow_Horizon
T, 17k, Wangxian
Summary: Lan Wangji loves Wei Wuxian and Wei Wuxian wholeheartedly reciprocates the same. This is an undeniable truth. But is love all they need in a relationship? Love can be a wonderful start to a lasting marriage, but can it survive on love alone? The story of how Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian were made to sever and sunder after their marriage. Kay's comments: Ah, this story! Absolutely devastating in the best way possible, ripped by heart to pieces and then lovingly put the pieces together again. In my heart Wangxian live happily ever after, of course, but I do love stories that look at what could go wrong despite them getting together, especially in combination with the living situation in the Cloud Recesses and the CQL-element of Lan Wangji being the Chief Cultivator. This story mixes the novel and the canon of the show and takes a look at how Wangxian are faring post-canon and how their relationship slowly falls apart because Lan Wangji's duties as Chief Cultivator take their toll and Lan Qiren is also trying to marry him off to a lady from the Meishan Yu Sect. In the end, Wei Wuxian leaves quietly one day, while Lan Wangji is on a night-hunt with the Meishan Yu cultivator, and starts living for himself, healing himself and growing and Lan Wangji too grows in their time apart and realizes what's truly important, but of course, in the end, they find their way back to each other. Just, a wonderful story all-in-all. Excerpt: Yu Bingqing seems to be blind and deaf to Wei Wuxian’s predicament altogether or she was putting up an award winning performance. With an unfazed countenance and avoiding eye contact, she merely glanced towards his direction to say, “Wei Gong-zi, I have no interest in knowing particulars of your association with Hanguang-Jun, nor have I any intention to seek a deeper understanding of the nature of your connection with a noble and righteous gentleman like him. I am not a person who needlessly burdens myself with meager details such as someone’s previous associations. What concerns me the most is someone’s future associations after I made a decision to make an alliance with that person for mutual benefit. As you are very well aware, your reputation in the cultivation world is not a one that is favourable for any reputable person or a sect to be associated with. The longer you stay here at the Cloud Recesses, the greater the chances are for you to jeopardise Hanguang-Jun’s credibility as the new Chief Cultivator. Contrarily, if I decided to stay by him with the esteemed Meishan Yu sect behind him, sky is the limit for his success in the cultivation world.” Listening to this woman conceitedly shooting her mouth off and challenging his standing as Lan Zhan’s cultivation partner, Wei Wuxian suddenly felt nauseated and the distaste in his mouth made him want to puke. But, he did not want to make things unpleasant at the get go of this conversation. With an infernal smirk that he could not help wiping off of his his handsome face he replied, “Please let me get this straight Maiden Yu. What you are saying is that you do not recognize any relationship between Lan Zhan and myself, and you also dare to propose that I should distance myself from him so that you can go forward with your one sided plan. Did I hear you correctly? Or am I just hearing some implausible musing of a blatantly ambitious person?”

💙Breathing Firestorm
By:ladyshadowdrake
Summary:
After years of a mad quest, Wen Ruohan is finally given proof of a powerful creature living among mortals. He is delighted to find that it truly believes itself to be only a boy named “Wei Wuxian.”
While Wen Ruohan tries to unlock Wei Wuxian’s secret, the sects unite against him. If he can achieve his goal before they arrive, even the combined might of the cultivation world would not be enough to humble him.
Meanwhile, Lan Wangji dreams of Wei Wuxian in the Cold Pond Cave, and works tirelessly to rescue him from Wen Ruohan’s clutches.
No one is prepared for what awaits the allied sects in Nightless City at the conclusion of the war, and it very well might mean the end of the world as they know it.
Chapter:21/21
Words:110,773
Status:completed
(Phoenix wei wuxian)
Sect Leader! Your—Senior brother—Hanguang-jun!” he sputtered. “Take a breath,” Lan Xichen interrupted, reaching out to steady the boy and taking an exaggerated breath himself to demonstrate. Worry gnawed at the back of his throat while the disciple swallowed hard and obediently took in a deep breath. “Try again.” “Lan Wangji has entered the Phoenix-Subdue Cave!” the boy blurted out. Without meaning to, Lan Xichen clamped his hand down on the junior’s arm. The boy winced, but he didn’t try to pull away. Lan Xichen hastily released him, took one step back and drew Shuoyue even as he took the first leap into the air.
~~~
“Wangji. You are well?” Lan Xichen asked, his gaze pulling again to the phoenix where he leaned against the back wall with his arms crossed over his chest. Lan Xichen had seen Wei Wuxian in a similar pose many times, and though the phoenix occupied the same body, even just this glance was enough to separate the phoenix and Wei Wuxian totally. Everything about his posture communicated danger, violence just barely contained. Lan Wangji nodded. “Mn.” “Please come outside the wards,” Lan Xichen said. He itched to reach through the wards and drag Lan Wangji out as though he were still four years old and Lan Xichen could pick him up at will. Lan Wangji shook his head. “I will not.” “Wangji,” Lan Xichen pleaded softly. Lan Wangji shook his head again. He looked so much like their father in that moment that Lan Xichen could have sobbed. He remembered a much younger Lan Wangji, barely five and standing at his full height, face serious and voice calm, announcing that he was no longer a child and would not be carried again. There had been no discussion, no room for negotiation or suggestion or reasoning. Lan Xichen wondered if he had known at twelve that he would rarely be allowed to touch his brother after that point, if he would have argued. If he had known this would happen—Lan Wangji just barely seventeen, tall and always serious, putting himself once more firmly outside of Lan Xichen’s reach—would he have tried harder? “Explain your reasoning,” Lan Xichen, who was Lan Wangji’s brother, but also his mentor and teacher and sect leader, said. “It is dangerous for the phoenix to be isolated,” Lan Wangji said. “It is unnecessary for Wei Ying to be isolated. I will remain.”
~~~
“The breath in his lungs is the only thing in all the universe that protects you from me,” the phoenix-Wei Wuxian said. He stepped casually away from Lan Wangji’s prone body and gestured with one hand. His smile was a bright, wicked thing on his face. “Please, do continue.” For a very long time, no one moved or spoke. Finally, Wei Wuxian snorted out a derisive laugh and knelt at Lan Wangji’s side. Lan Xichen was close enough to see the quick sparks flickering and dying in his eyes as he examined the ruin that had been made of Lan Wangji’s skin. The air surrounding him heated again. “You know, Lan Zhan, I could kill every person in this courtyard without breaking our bargain,” he murmured. Lan Wangji forced his eyes open. It was obviously a struggle to focus on Wei Wuxian, and his voice was a broken whisper when he said, “Do not.”
