Happy New Year from Redefine Wellness! 🎉⁣ We’re not even 24 hours into 2024, but how many promotions or sales for a new diet or cleanse? Probably more than enough. 🙄⁣⁣
⁣Our recommendation? ➡️Delete, block, or remove these messages from your inbox, social media feed, and real life. ⁣ ⁣ Here are three things you can consider starting this year. And the best part? None involve weight loss or dieting! 👏⁣ ⁣ ✅ Start a new book series or TV show. ⁣ ✅ Start to journal. ⁣ ✅ Follow @redefine_wellness_ for tips on breaking free from diet culture in 2024.

Powerful
I wonder what my body would be like now...if I hadn't been bombarded
by messages as a child of how it wasn't good enough?
What if...
...I hadn't started dieting and not trusting my body as a teenager because the magazines were always pushing the latest diet trend?
...I hadn't tried to control it for the past 25+ years and had just let it be?
...I had been taught that food was just food and not a monitor of morality and good vs bad.
...I had been able to see exercise as a gentle past time instead of a way to punish myself for being 'bad' with food?
...the multi-billion dollar 'wellness' industry had told me I was beautiful just as I was instead of showing me that a woman's body was meant to be controlled for the pleasure of those who looked at it.
...I had been shown more diversity in the TV, books & magazines around me.
...I had learned to trust my body instead of controlling it.
...I wasn't taught that it was necessary to control my body, that after millions of years of evolution, our bodies knew what they were doing.
I wonder if I can unlearn all of those things and learn to love every single bit of me...exactly how it is?

Posted @withregram • @fatdoctoruk I've said it before and I'll say it again. Ob*sity is NOT a risk factor for COVID. I am concerned that actual doctors are suggesting otherwise. To start with, your weight has zero impact on whether you will catch a virus. Anyone who is suggesting otherwise does not understand the principles of virology. Whilst some people are at risk of catching the virus more than others (immunosuppressed people, for example) viruses don't discriminate when it comes to BMI!!! Now, there HAVE been more COVID related deaths in patients who inhabit bigger bodies, but is not clear yet why that is. A meta analysis back in 2016 demonstrated that the high rate of swine flue deaths in fat patients was due to DELAYED TREATMENT. This supports the argument that weight stigma is most likely having a big impact on COVID outcomes. In other words, prejudice and discrimination within the medical community is may well be partly responsible for unnecessary COVID deaths. But no on wants to talk about this, do they? I'd also like to remind everyone once again that correlation is NOT the same as causation. Whilst it appears that weight and poor COVID outcomes are linked somehow, you cannot jump to conclusions that one CAUSES the other. Anyone who does that is simply looking for an excuse to uncensor themselves and express their deeply rooted prejudice openly, without fear of retaliation. Like Dr Mike Hart, MD. If this guy really is a doctor then he should know all this. But let's face it, this guy just hates fat people. The end. Fully didn’t realised how unfit I was until I did a 10 minute workout and nearly passed out. I feel better now I’ve recovered but this is going to be harder than I thought.

My name is Gloria, and I would love to write you a note! 😊 . Recently I received a set of free “Don’t Weigh Me” cards from @moreloveorg, and thought I would share the love. . Here are some tidbits (paraphrased) from morelove.org/free-dont-weigh-me-cards/ — . Did you know that we don’t *have* to be weighed every time we go to the doctor? We can actually make an informed choice based on the provided medical reason to step on the scale (or not), rather than automatically complying. Having this business-sized card on hand provides support and empowerment for people who would like to say “no” when they (or their child) are asked to be weighed, and/or ask for an explanation of the value of being weighed. You can keep it in your wallet to remind yourself that it’s OK to “rebel” against the societal standards in which we follow the doctor’s orders. . Most health conditions can be addressed without knowing weight, even though weight-based care is the norm in our fatphobic society. In fact, weight is actually a very poor indicator of lifetime health and longevity. . Many people feel anxiety about seeing the doctor, and will even avoid going to the doctor in order to avoid the scale. Regardless of the purpose of the visit, talking about weight causes feelings of stress and shame and perpetuates weight stigma. Weight stigma has been firmly linked to poor health outcomes, including eating disorders. . DM me your address, and I will send you one of these cards, along with a hand written note to encourage you! If you wish (just for fun), leave a positive affirmation in the comments and tag a friend. 🌷 . I encourage you to reach out, especially if we haven’t met or if it’s been a while since we’ve connected. ❤️ . 📷: @shethinkslovely ___________________________________ #healthateverysize #i_weigh #oneofthem #publichealth #weightstigma #edrecovery #stillgay #queerlybeloved #reclaimandreform #embracethesquish #holisticlife #morewithless #artfullyseeking #believeinbetter #butfirstjesus #fatacceptance #antidietculture #riotsnotdiets #fatliberation #queerliberation (à Honeycomb Creamery) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9kTP7_ncIO/?igshid=ulo88vibvka9

Don’t wait until you’re at your “ideal weight” to start loving yourself. Diet culture thrives by telling you that you aren’t good enough as you are. Resist the urge to start another diet program that encourages deprivation, restriction, or counting calories. You deserve more not less. More self compassion, understanding, and love💗. #dietculture #riotsnotdiets #dietculturesucks #haes #healthateverysize #nondiet #bodypositivity #bopo #ditchthediet #weightstigma #allbodiesareworthybodies #bodykindness #bodyrespect #bodytrust #eatingdisorderrecovery #antidietrevolution #thereisnowrongwaytohaveabody ##selfcompassion #joyfulmovement #intuitiveeating #mindfuleating https://www.instagram.com/p/CYWcsboLhxC/?utm_medium=tumblr

I don’t understand why people feel it’s necessary to comment on people’s bodies in any situation. But this is especially true when it comes to healthcare settings. You never know what someone’s relationship with their body is like, or how your comments will land. What may seem like a neutral comment or even “compliment” to you could be a trigger that sends someone into a relapse with their eating disorder. And when someone has *already* requested a blind weight. I feel it’s obvious that comments on that aspect are NOT SOLICITED. Do better. #weightstigma #medicaloppression #medicalmaltreatment #fatphobia #toxicdietculture #eatingdisorderrecovery https://www.instagram.com/p/CUu6UlmAhsT/?utm_medium=tumblr

Turns out I’m actually a pretty nice person 😅 Don’t get me wrong I still have my moments 🙃 but for so long I had the shortest fuse. I would snap at people. I was so easily irritated. And looking back I was quite rude to some people 😓⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ When I was spending hours in the gym and under-eating I didn’t give anyone the time of day. I’d get annoyed if anything got in the way of my gym time. I had to lift AND get my cardio in. I didn’t have time just sit around and CHIT CHAT!?⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ I was rude. I was rarely present. I was always thinking about the food I ate or if I’d be able to get to a gym and get my workout in for the day. I had moments where I felt like the real me but for the most part, I was just not a fun person to be around. All I ever talked about was food and working out (how boring) I didn’t have the energy (literally not enough food) to give my attention to anything but fitness and nutrition. My hormones and neurotransmitters were for sure out of whack too since my body fat was so low 😭⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ My physical health suffered - I lost my period and developed a ton of digestive issues which both took years to recover from. Not only that but my relationships and personal development goals suffered. My basic needs were not met. I wasn’t meeting my body's need for food. And when we don’t meet that first essential need it’s hard to excel in other areas of life. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I am thankful for learning these lessons the hard way because I truly believe it helps me now be the BEST coach for my clients. ⁣ ⁣ It’s not just about food.⁣ ⁣ It’s about living a FULL life and we can’t do that on an empty stomach. ⁣ ⁣ Does anyone else feel like a different person now that they’ve healed their relationship with food?👇🏼 ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #intuitiveeating #foodfreedom #disorderedeating #macros #antidiet #lowcarb #bodydysmorphia #bingeeating #emotionaleating #stresseating #dietculturedropout #weightstigma #heathateverysize #bingeeatingdisorder #bodyrespect #disorderedeating #weightstigma #fatphobia #intuitiveeatingjourney #dietculture #intuitiveeatingcoach #dietstartsmonday #intermittentfasting #bodyneutrality #bodyacceptance ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ (at Tofino, British Columbia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMd1kv2HqQh/?igshid=1vfdsbu9zb0wt

Weight stigma is present everywhere. Eating disorders can go undetected under the radar because they do not meet the “typical” stereotype. THERE IS NO TYPICAL stereotype, the one that’s created by society and media is the rarity. Eating disorders do not discriminate but our society and weight stigma does discriminate. You can have an eating disorder in any shape/ size, gender ethnicity. Someone in a larger body can be very sick, as sick as someone in a “stereotypically emaciated” body. If you are underweight for your natural size or engaging in disordered eating/ behaviour you your body suffers. We need to change the narrative that eating disorders are only an issue in smaller sizes. Early intervention needs to be available to all. #eatingdisorderrecovery #eatingdisorderawareness #eating #weightstigma #weightstigmaawareness #atypicalanorexiarecovery #atypicalanorexia #atypicalanorexianervosa #anorexianervosarecovery #anorexiarecovering #anonovo #HAES, #healthateverysizemovement #healthateverysize #healthatanysize https://www.instagram.com/p/CMX7JDznySh/?igshid=g7xirmp5g1nb

the truth..
For the first time in my life I have finally been able to admit to myself that I am not okay, and that is okay. Having depression doesn't define me. Having anxiety doesn't define me. Having an eating disorder doesn't define me. The hardest part was telling someone that I couldn't bring myself to get rid of clothes that used to fit me and then being told that was stupid. I have struggled with weight issues since I turned 13, I was never as skinny as the other girls, I was never as “hot” as the other girls, and people made sure I knew that, and they still do. I have OSFED, other specified food and eating disorder, it is not less serious than more well known eating disorders, they are all equally dangerous. My OSFED is low frequency binge eating disorder and night eating syndrome. It may seem counter productive to want to be skinnier but have binge eating disorder but the mind works in strange ways, and with the depression side, comfort eating became the thing I took up. If someone commented on my weight, I would feel bad, maybe skip lunch that day, then feel bad and have a binge. The quarantine due to coronavirus has made this hard, and I can feel myself pulling the other way, as I have before, I have made meal plans for university that do not have enough calories a day, I have ordered workout gear because I want to take up running, and I can sense myself getting on to not eating diets. treating eating disorders isn't a simple path, its a journey with back tracks and diversions but you get there eventually.

#Repost @the_bodylib_advocate ・・・ Why are communities with low food access consistently shamed for their food choices or their bodies? Why are they further penalized when the limited food choices they do have are already more expensive and lower quality? From saying their body size is the main reason as to why health disparities exist to charging them more for beverages to limiting what types of foods they can buy on SNAP (Supplemental Food Assistance Program) we play a part in their oppression instead of being there to help them thrive. #bodyliberation #weightdiscrimination #nondietapproach #bodyrespect #weightstigma #healthateverysize #lesspolicingmorecompassion #healthnotweight #foodjustice #foodsovereignty #dietculture #fatphobia #intersectionalfeminism #socialjustice #foodapartheid #foodpolice #foodinsecurity #endhunger https://www.instagram.com/p/B5yNfJvJPe2/?igshid=1lvit075u7j68
