“Having a health condition, being chronically ill, or disabled, doesn’t make you and your body any less worthy of respect and dignity. Health is not a prerequisite for your presence in and contribution to this world, whatever that may be, being valued.” - Jess Campbell via @haes_studentdoctor Monday reminder. You and your body deserve to be respected and valued exactly as you are, right this second, regardless of your health status - physical, mental, emotional otherwise. #haes #haesig #healthateverysize #healthateverysizemovement #health #healthy #fat #fatpositive #fatacceptance #bopo #bodypositive #bodyacceptance #bodyaffirmative #bodyaffirmation #bodyaffirmations #mondaymotivation #mondaymood #monday #mondayvibes #haestherapy #haesnyc #bodyaffirmativetherapy #ed #edrecovery (at Greenwich Village, New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7RAVZDg-_T/?igshid=nczgjiiidr53

#Repost from @therosienutritionist with @regram.app ... How have you enjoyed sitting with yourself lately? 😩The pandemic has been a lot. And here in Toronto, we are going into lockdown again. This pandemic has forced many of us to sit with ourselves and deal with things that we've been escaping. This pandemic has also shown how the healthcare system has failed BIPOC, the blatant racism in our societies, and how we need to revolutionize how money and resources are distributed. During this time, I've been doing a lot more research on trauma, and looking at how our experiences from childhood really shape who we are and what we do. Things like poverty, food insecurity, precarious housing, violence, neglect, and other forms of adverse experiences are making me think about my role as a health professional. As a dietitian, I take pride in making connections and using intersectionality to understand health behaviours. I am not perfect and have a lot to learn, but I strive to apply an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and intersectional lens in my work. It takes continued work; that I will be doing all of my career and life. How would you feel if your health provider saw all of you; past and present? How would you feel showing up better for your clients/patients/peers/students/the public? Let me know in the comments! Let's talk about it. Share this post and let's spread this message. If you're a nutrition professional interested in learning more about anti-oppression and anti-racism click the link in my bio! #diversitymatters #nutritionist #nutritionistapproved #nutritionstudent #dieteticsstudent #dietitianofig #dietitianlife #rdsofinstagram #dietitiansofinstagram #bodypostive #haesig #foodjustice #foodsecurity #foodinsecurity #dietitianapproved #dietculture #registereddietitian #amplifymelanatedvoices #antioppression #diversitymatters #diversifydietetics #nutritionist #nutritionistapproved #dietitianofig #rdsofinstagram #dietitiansofinstagram #bodyliberation https://www.instagram.com/p/CH8M66UJNSh/?igshid=17uc10thdjzz5

I do loves me some @ragenchastain @danceswithfat Posted @withregram • @ragenchastain When someone hits you with the VFHT (Vague Future Health Threat) here are some options to respond: Quick and simple: It’s not your place to make guesses about my future health. My health is not your business. More detailed/scientific I don’t know of a single statistically significant, properly controlled scientific study that supports that statement. So, either cite your research or I’m going to assume that I know more about this than you do and you are just talking without actually knowing what you’re talking about. You have no way to know that. Cite your research or I will assume that you are putting my health at risk by talking about things for which you have no actual knowledge or qualifications. That is completely unacceptable to me. The snarky responses (Not the best for starting conversations, but excellent for ending them!) I had no idea you could predict the future! Would you mind giving me tomorrow’s lottery numbers? Actually the fat doesn’t have to catch up with me – I keep it right here. I totally forgot that being thin would make me immortal – thank god you told me or I might have died someday. I meant to tell you that I’m actually worried about you. I read on a website that we are about to experience another ice age and without fat stores to keep you alive and warm, you’re absolutely going to freeze to death. #HAES #HealthAtEverySize #IntuitiveEating #FatPositive #BodyLiberation #HealthJustice #EvidenceBasedMedicine #MedicalFatphobia #HAESig #DoNoHarm #EatingDisorderAwareness https://www.instagram.com/p/B8fOI9LgMBI/?igshid=1fo095m0xp3lq

Wise words from Julie Murphy. ( @andimjulie ) Be. In. Pictures. this holiday season. No matter your size, your shape, how bad of a hair day you are having, whatever your reason. Be in the pictures. You have permission to celebrate and exist in exactly the body you have right now, in exactly the point of life you are at right now. You don’t have to lose weight, have a significant other, have a child, any of it. You get to be exactly as you are and where you are. Happy Holidays. #haes #healthateverysize #haesig #bodypositive #bopo #bodyaffirmative #fatpositive #fatpositivity #fatliberation #fatlib #haesnyc #haesny #holidayseason #holidayspirit #holidays #holiday #holidaylove https://www.instagram.com/p/B6eILQYApbo/?igshid=8e8980xjt9b2

So, I did a thing last week and changed my profile picture on Instagram to an actual picture of me. I had switched to using my logo a few months after starting this account. It was the first time I had maintained a public social media account in years. The amount of DMs - sexual harassment, creepy messages, body policing - that happened only in those few months made my skin crawl. I was entirely unprepared for it and just opted out entirely by switching to my logo. Hiding behind a series of green and blue dots felt safer. But it also never totally felt right, either. Particularly when my body is such a big part of the work that I do. I elicit patients responses to my body, what it’s like to sit with a therapist in a fat body, and invite them to talk about their bodies. Positive feelings, negative feelings, neutral feelings, observations of internalized beliefs that they intellectually know to be invalid but can’t seem to let go of - all feelings about bodies - and all bodies, period - are welcome in my office. So, it’s only fitting that my body is present on my Instagram account, isn’t it? It feels like a bit of an imperative. Creepy messages be damned (esp with that new filtered message feature!). #haes #healthateverysize #fat #fatacceptance #fatliberation #bodyaffirmative #bodyimage #bopo #bodypositive #everybodyisagoodbody #haesig https://www.instagram.com/p/B45NHY5AeSE/?igshid=167f2tmi5u883

So, tell me again about how your body size, weight, health status etc determines your worth or your lovability? That’s right, it doesn’t. Regardless of what our culture dictates. When we look within ourselves, and consider our relationships to others’ bodies, hopefully, we can see that it isn’t the be all end all it’s made out to be. Our self perception is not the only thing that needs to change, however. If anything, this is exceptionally difficult to shift within our culture. Our cultural messaging that repeatedly re-emphasizes the idea that certain bodies - thin, cis, white, able - are “better” or “ideal” - this is what really needs to shift. #wsaw2019 was so uplifting, precisely because there was more united visibility of folks trying to disrupt that and fight back. That’s only the beginning. Every week should be weight stigma aware! #truth Posted @withrepost • @themindfuldietitian Thankyou Kimmie Singh @tastingabundance for this truth bomb from the recent #WINDSymposium in DC.... Our value and worth does not lie in our productivity, including the "work" we invest in our "health" or body shape, weight or size. This whole notion is rooted in oppressive structures which demand us to be "working" to prove our value to the world. And it's bullshit. People don't look at a newborn baby and say "oh well, it's done nothing, so it's not worthy..." People look at a newborn and think about what a miracle they are. So what changes? As we get older, we learn - thanks family and culture - that doing more is valued. Including the "doing" to our bodies which are so so incredibly harmful. Resting, doing nothing at all does not change our value as humans. If, or when, our bodies are literally unable to do what we think they should be doing - if we have an injury, a diagnosis, a disability - that this does not mean anything about our worth. Doing is not being. Being is all we have to do to be enough. Share this with anyone who needs to hear it today - including ourselves. #HAESIG #shamefreezone #benotdo #mindfuldietitian https://www.instagram.com/p/B3DbG8dATMw/?igshid=jwoegcpk5cq4

#truestory thank you for sharing this @amee_rd Posted @withrepost • @amee_rd Disordered eating is about more than wanting to be thin. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It can also be disordered to be too focused on health. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Health is not something that is directly related to what we are doing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sometimes, there are things we can do that can be health promoting and these activities are everything from exercise, to eating certain foods, to wearing a seatbelt, to the kinds of drugs you may or may not use. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And you could even do everything "right" and still have a health condition. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Because that's life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And obsessing over health and everything we put in our body adds stress and fear that we don't need to live with. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's not a personal failure to not be "healthy".⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's not a moral triumph to be "healthy"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And obsessing over it could be an eating disorder.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Diet culture has normalized this with diets being more about health than about weight loss now (explicitly. It's still implied that weight loss *should* occur)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let's call this out too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #HAES #healthateverysize #intuitiveeating #fatacceptance #fatactivism #bodyliberation #intuitiveeatingrd #fatpositiverd #edrd #haesrd #radicaldietitian #pnwdietitian #fatdietitian #prospernutrition #bellinghamrd #losehatenotweight #riotsnotdiets #radicalselflove #nourishnotpunish #antidiet #nondiet #allfoodsfit #selfcarenotselfcontrol #edrecovery #weightinclusive #weightneutral #haesig #bodytrustisyourbirthright https://www.instagram.com/p/B3VfAlyAFBz/?igshid=bdyy6a9znqtb
