Regular reminder that sudden and severe weight loss is a pretty serious sign that something is very, very wrong
#weight#weight loss#brought to you by the realisation today that my hips are currently smaller than my fucking waist usually is#it’s summer and i’ve been walking the hill a lil more but damn that’s not fucking good#and before anyone even THINKS ‘i wish i had this problem’ i guarantee you do not#cuz it comes from 2 hour bathroom trips that are screamingly painful#and the arbitrary inability to eat literally anything#which often crops up right before i sit down to eat something#and i mean i can wait it out and eat late but it’s really goddamn annoying#and none of my goddamn clothes fit AGAIN i’m way out of even my smallest stuff#my broke ass is not buying new shit and if i make any cosplay to fit me now it’ll be way too small when i’m back in remission 😤#gotta get the goddamn meal replacement shakes again and see if i can process those#they are GROSS#gym bros are lying to you#they all suck#and i need to do em along with regular meals cuz i’m not gonna get enough from either#luckily i also have chronically low blood pressure so frenchfries are medicinal on both levels#this may also explain my resting heartrate being around 120bpm in my opinion#but no one’s ever really discussed it

Medicines in the same class as Novo Nordisk's popular weight-loss therapy Wegovy may carry an increased risk of pancreatitis, intestinal blockage and stomach paralysis compared to an older obesity drug, according to a study published on Thursday. The study focused on two drugs from the class known as GLP-1 inhibitors, which help lower blood sugar levels for people with Type 2 diabetes: semaglutide is the active ingredient in Wegovy as well as Novo's diabetes drugs Ozempic and Rybelsus; liraglutide is the active ingredient in the company's earlier obesity medicine Saxenda and diabetes drug Victoza. Nearly five in every 1,000 users of semaglutide drugs developed pancreatitis, compared to one of every 1,000 users of bupropion-naltrexone, the active ingredients in the weight-loss drug Contrave, according to a report in the JAMA medical journal. Contrave was approved in the U.S. in 2014 and in Canada in 2018.

DIY [dirt cheap & probably works better than a] Starbucks Medicine Ball:
Functional teas that I had on hand were:
Celestial Tea Well Organic Ginger Mint
Bigelow Benefits Lemon & Echinacea
Honey, the real good stuff (this is from my cousin's farm)
Lemon Juice 🍋
Sugar Free Peppermint Syrup
Bonus Add on: Young Living Peppermint
Although the OG diy recipe uses the Teavana brand and a metric shitton of sugar, I am not that boujee and trying to avoid extra sugar... Honey has enough sweetness, but honey also has its own special properties. Use the google, I ain't your momma.
This tea is what I had on hand, and likely bought on sale or clearance. Also...there are a ton of different teas that are specifically blending to aid immunity or cold season. Try varieties by Yogi or Traditional Medicinals if you can find them. Experiment & find what works best for you.
I also don't have the space for a bag of fresh lemons. It is really all about balancing what you have with the effect you want.
I have found that in most of my experiments, I will feel better with any combination of mint, lemon and honey. But if I have to work, a tea that has some caffeine will help me perk up.
And yes, I have to work. I work FT and caregiver FT, I am out of PTO. My FMLA is only if my patient is sick, it doesn't cover my illnesses. But I work from home so... it could be worse. At least I am not infecting people.

Isn’t there an insulin shortage? Was it only in America? I am worried about people with diabetes.
there's a shortage in the states that is exacerbating the already high prices:
there was also this, a tiktok weight loss trend leading to a global shortage of medication for type 2 diabetes (it isn't insulin though):
but I can't find anything about an insulin shortage in canada. if anyone can find any information on that, feel free to add it!

Doctors like to say that gallstones are caused by being fat or eating fatty food. You know, because fat =evil, right?
That's not how it actually works. Eating a very low fat diet is more likely to cause gallstones. (Gallstones are statistically linked to fatness because guess what size of people are more likely to be dieting?)
Bile is used in your digestive system to digest fat. It is stored in the gallbladder. If you stop eating fat, the gallbladder never gets the signal to squirt out bile and it builds up in your gallbladder, eventually concentrating and forming crystals or gallstones.
Then let's say you go to a party and eat a donut. Suddenly the gallbladder is called back into action and tries to squirt out bile, but instead is squirting out tiny rocks and you are experiencing the worst fucking pain of your entire fucking life.
Your doctor tells you to avoid eating fatty food, so you assume fatty food caused this problem, but that's not really what happened. The fat triggered the noticable symptoms, but there is very little evidence linking high fat diets to the actual formation of gallstones.
If you try to explain this in plain and simple terms to people on social media, they will argue with you as if you have insulted their deepest held beliefs because you're telling them that weight loss dieting has side effects, and they can't fucking handle that.
#gallstones#cholecystitis#weight loss dieting#fatphobia in medicine#btw my source for this is my actual doctor when I had gallstones caused by the low fat diets of the 90s#my gallbladder was removed when I was 22 after I had been eating a low fat diet for about a year

(TW: Medical and weight talk)
I went to a new doctor this morning to talk about my chronic back and joint pain and I felt heard. My last doctor focused on my weight and didn't do much for my pain issues, like I can't walk far or stand for long. And this new doctor actually listened and did an examination, ordered labs and X-rays.
What I liked a lot was there wasn't a scale in the room. She didn't even want to talk weight loss, she wanted to talk about physical therapy and improving my mobility.
This place was very queer. All of the patient doors were decorated with rainbows and pride flags.

Hormones & Weight loss (part 2) : Insulin
Insulin is a key hormone that regulates blood sugar levels by helping your body store and use glucose for energy. It plays a critical role in maintaining energy balance, but elevated insulin levels, often caused by overconsuming refined carbohydrates or poor lifestyle habits, can promote fat storage and lead to insulin resistance. This makes weight loss harder and increases the risk of metabolic conditions like type 2 diabetes.
💛 Signs & Symptoms of Imbalance:
• Strong cravings for sugar and refined carbs
• Difficulty losing weight, especially around the abdomen
• Energy crashes after meals
• Persistent hunger, even after eating
💛 How to Support:
• Balance your meals: Include a mix of lean protein, healthy fats, and high-fiber foods to keep blood sugar levels stable and reduce insulin spikes.
• Reduce sugar intake: Limiting refined carbs, sugary beverages, and processed snacks can lower insulin demands.
• Exercise regularly: Both aerobic exercise (e.g., walking, cycling) and strength training improve insulin sensitivity and help muscles efficiently use glucose.
• Improve sleep quality: Poor sleep increases insulin resistance and disrupts metabolic hormones. Aim for 7–8 hours of consistent, restful sleep.
• Use timing to your advantage: Consuming carbohydrates post-workout optimizes glucose uptake by muscles, reducing the risk of fat storage.
💛 Supplements that may help:
• Berberine: A natural compound that supports blood sugar control and enhances insulin sensitivity (Source).
• Chromium: An essential trace mineral that aids in blood glucose regulation.
• Magnesium: Plays a crucial role in glucose metabolism and insulin signalling.
• Inositol (Myo-inositol): Especially beneficial for insulin sensitivity in people with metabolic syndrome or PCOS.

✨ Comienza a optimizar tu rendimiento hoy mismo

Is Intermediate Fasting Good For Health?
So, what is intermittent fasting anyway?
So, are you willing to try intermittent fasting to lose weight?
To be honest, it’s definitely worth a try if you’re looking for a flexible, simple way to lose a few pounds, improve your fitness, and maybe even feel more energized throughout the day.
It’s no longer about being self-indulgent and merely giving your body the occasional touch-up.
Who knows?
Let’s see is intermediate fasting good for health?
You might come out feeling better than before. However, don’t worry if the thought of missing breakfast is just too much for you. You are who you are, and never forget that the best fitness regimen is the only one that suits you.
Is it good for health?
That’s the million-dollar question now, isn’t it?
Is it really doing something specific to your body to forgo breakfast and wait until noon to eat? Well, there are some people for whom intermittent fasting will improve their fitness. Let’s start with losing weight.
Your body turns to your fat stores for fuel when you don’t eat for extended periods of time because it lacks the immediate energy that comes from food.
It’s similar to using up the cupboard treats when you’re too lazy to go grocery shopping.
In the long run, this might help people lose weight, especially if they maintain a low-cost energy range during their eating window.
However, the benefits don’t end there. According to some research, fasting may help lower insulin levels, which is excellent for controlling blood sugar.
That is really significant, especially for those who are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Moreover, intermittent fasting can improve heart health by lowering blood pressure and harmful low-density lipoprotein levels.
Furthermore, some studies suggest that fasting may actually strengthen your mind by removing mental clutter and thus lowering your risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
