when openly bigoted conservatives, people who riot against the "murder" of unborn fetuses while excusing the systemic murder of people of color, say that they advocate for the unborn because "fetuses/babies are innocent", what they really mean is "fetuses and babies physically can't talk back to me, they physically can't protest or argue or go against my views or actions, they physically can't do or even think about anything that I've deemed deviant/sinful, etc". it's not compassion, it's an illusion of compassion. that's exactly why, as soon as said fetuses are actually born and babies start to develop actual autonomy, and that illusion is eventually broken, the conservatives that rallied so loudly for "innocent babies" go radio silent. that's also the reason why "pro-life" conservatives vocally support forced abortions on "illegals"; the fetuses of undocumented immigrants are the product of something they don't approve of, associated with something they've deemed immoral, thus is no longer "innocent", and thus no longer qualifies. if it was possible to know if an embryo is gay, something else reactionaries deem immoral, from inside the womb, they'd turn a blind eye to mass abortions of those embryos, because none of the fetuses would be "innocent".

as many people have said, the conservative-brand 'Protect Our Innocent Children' narrative exists because, in the eyes of reactionaries, children are blank slates to be controlled; little more than soft, shapeless pieces of molding clay to be converted into whatever their parents want, and they don't want anyone else contributing to that molding. that's why they don't classify beating children as abuse, because roughing up the clay is part of the molding process (and it's not like the clay can fight back, right?). but, when molding clay is allowed to remain out of its package and is exposed to outside elements for a prolonged amount of time - when children are taught (or, as conservatives like to put it, "groomed") about the world around them from a source outside of the heavily altered, heavily censored reality they were born into - the clay starts to harden into a single shape until it can no longer be molded; or, the children start forming their own worldviews and opinions, including those that don't fit in with their parent's original vision of them. and when the children can no longer be fully controlled like puppets, they get disowned by the people who claimed to advocate for them, because what happens to molding clay that becomes too hard to use? it gets thrown away.

now, on a similar note, right-leaning and self-proclaimed animal rights activists tend to loudly prioritize the rights of animals while devaluing the rights of the marginalized because, unlike the marginalized, animals can't talk back, animals can't protest, animals can't knowingly do things we classify as immoral, and etc; in fact, the #1 argument used by these types of people for not caring about human injustices is "humans sin, animals don't". whether consciously or unconsciously, this kind of mentality, alongside the conservative "killing fetuses is bad but killing black people is ok" mentality, is Very often laced with bigotry (especially racism), what with people advocating for (the good, innocent, sinless, moral) animals while displaying far less compassion towards (the evil, sinful, morally bankrupt) people of color; some have even used "humans are naturally evil" as a justification for openly not caring about brown children (people who haven't even learned how to count to fifty, let alone "sin") being put in cages or being snuffed out in a genocidal war.

and similarly to Protect The Children rhetoric, this mentality more often than not results in the abuse of the very beings they claim to care about (and it's made even worse by the fact that animals don't have the same capability of autonomy that humans have, even at adulthood); when someone feeds their dog "vegan dog food", the dog physically Can't go "hey uh this is literally killing me, I literally need meat, please stop and feed me correctly?" and so the person can continue calling themselves ethical even after the dog dies of malnutrition, because the dog couldn't provide any vocal evidence of mistreatment or take pictures of its own malnourished body.

when so-called animal rights activists (or, people who otherwise claim to advocate for animals in one way or another) willingly buy an undomesticated animal from an abusive breeder from an exotic animal mill and holds them in captivity in an un-accommodated house, the baby animal physically Can't and will Never be able to say "I hate it here, I miss my parents, please take me back home" nor can they escape by themselves (at least, not without potentially being gunned down on sight for "running wild"), and so the owner can artificially assign human morals and feelings onto the animal and easily continue touting themselves as anti-cruelty, even as the animal becomes increasingly unhealthy and neurotic behind locked doors. yet, if the animal outwardly displays their stress even just a little Too much (aggressive behavior, self-harming, etc), the owner begins to see them as a burden and starts mistreating them (either physically punishing them or by using methods that make them even more unhealthy), up until the animal can no longer be controlled; then, if the animal doesn't just get put down, they instead get dumped off somewhere (somewhere other than their natural habitat) and abandoned, with the owner probably buying another one right after and hoping This one will actually behave. because the suffering animal came the closest it possibly could to protesting the righteous, and to protest the righteous is to sin, and sinners aren't to be mourned.

basically: it's easy to care and advocate for "the innocent", "the sinless", because limiting your empathy to beings that are fundamentally unable to go against your views and morals (or, beings that can swiftly be beaten into silence if they ever attempt to go against your views and morals) removes all of the trouble and complexity of understanding nuance and gray morality, of having to think critically about your own actions, of questioning your own approach to the world and working to improve, because "the innocent" can't demand it of you even if they wanted to. the concept of "innocence vs sinful" isn't about "good vs bad", it's about controllably vs lack of controllability. it's about comfort and convenience over change and self-analysis. it's about the fact that it's easy to disguise moral apathy as moral righteousness.

tl;dr: there's speaking for someone or something because they can't speak for themselves, and there's speaking for someone/something because they can't talk, hear, or understand anything you're saying and thus can't correct you; one can benefit millions, the other can only ever benefit yourself.

okay because people have shown up in my dms talking smack I'm going to make one blanket statement on the 1000 year loli chilchuck thing.

yes, there has been a problem with young girls being put in suggestive positions in anime with the "uhmmm she's actually a bajillion years old" excuse. yes, other characters don't treat chilchuck like an adult. yes, he is short with big eyes.

However, chilchuck consistently acts like a grown man. he- in both the manga and the anime- straight up just is an adult. He looks like an adult when he is any other race during the swaps in the manga. When the other characters get turned into half-foots they look similar to chilchuck. He is explicitly stated to have more dungeon and general life experience than laios, and he acts like it.

The 1000 year loli trope explicitly functions as an excuse to prey on people who are inexperienced and unable to advocate for themselves. Chilchuck is a parent, is a union organizer, has explicit boundaries that he enforces rigidly, and he is treated as an adult man by everyone who doesn't have a fantasy racism-focused character arc/issue.

I can see how if you haven't read the manga and seen that he has an established life that he later reveals (and haven't paid attention to him in the anime lol) you could get a mistaken impression about him. Marcielle does too in the source material! It's part of her character at the start of her arc that she has issues with longevity!

The thing that irks me a little about this interpretation is that it leans into the child-coded discourse that was prominent a while ago (she's short!!!!! but has boob???? ILLEGAL!!1!) and it does a disservice to the themes of infantilization as a policy maneuver hurting the working class.

I saw chilchuck and his labor advocacy for half-foots both as a metaphor for racism (obvious take ik) and for ageism.

The working gen z as a cohort are being infantilized and pushed out of job markets due to infantilization, similar to half-foots in the show. gen z is being maliciously portrayed as too young to vote, enter office, know themselves, know their rights, and take advantage of their resources. Simultaneously, child labor protections and protections against workplace abuse are being rolled back in the US. In Japan, young people are being worked to the bone for nothing and are becoming disenfranchised as a generation while simultaneously expected to be the labor faction that supports the postwar generations in their old age.

Chilchuck's being treated poorly I saw as a clever commentary on the ways infantilization allows for protections to be stripped away under the guise that "oh it's just a job for teenagers- they don't need more than minimum wage" or "let the kids rescue the economy! they're always complaining about that job market!" while simultaneously stripping away rights under the guise of protection- "We can't have that on the internet! think of the children!" "to protect these young people we must raise the age of medical consent for hormones/reproductive health decisions!"

Kui's work with this series spoke to me on many levels, and specifically, the infantilization issue touched me in a way that few other pieces of media have. The struggle to be taken seriously in a stem field as someone young, as someone female, and as someone who had a high-pitched voice to the point I did years of voice training to be taken seriously, chilchuck's character resonated. I (kinda) understand your instinct to think "SHORT! CHILD! RALLY THE MASSES AND KILL THE PEDOS!!1!" but in this case, it's misdirected- mostly because the author was trying to use this misdirection to prove something to you, the reader.

Kui consistently makes cutting commentary on modern issues, the show's take on food neutrality as its headliner, but also the author's takes on cultural issues and the environment (with a focus on our place in the food web as animals). I feel that reducing chilchuck's very conscious position as a tradesman and an activist discounted due to his apparent age down to "1000 year loli ewwww let's send this random tumblr user suicide bait" just displays a lack of critical analysis of the show and a level of disrespect towards Kui and the work as a whole.

Hi! Wanted to clarify some things in regard to your post about Moo Deng always opening her mouth around her keeper, as a Thai person who lives near the zoo (and has visited the zoo many times) and has access to local information, that Moo Deng isn’t actually being abused like many posts with misinformation may have claimed.

Firstly, I’d like to start by stating that Moo Deng is not the first hippo who has been taken care of by this keeper. The keeper actually took care of Moo Deng’s older siblings for the past 8 years, and is still taking care of all of them even though they’re all adults now. And they all like playing with him.

As for how he’s handling Moo Deng, the process is simply what trained professionals here in Thailand believe is important for baby animals’ safety as well as the keepers’. It’s not just to cause her stress for cute and funny videos, it’s so that she gets used to being handled, because she’s going to be touched and handled throughout her life (by trained professionals, of course) when she gets her regular health checkups.

If he never handled her as a baby, she would only grow up to be an aggressive hippo who attacked the first time a keeper manhandled her. And an attack from an adult hippo can certainly be fatal.

He handled all of her older siblings, and they have all grown up to be friendly towards him. As for Moo Deng, her showing signs of stress is actually her being feisty, which is her unique personality (the main reason she goes viral).

Also worth mentioning that Moo Deng’s mom was with her the entire time her keeper handled her. If her mom actually thought her baby was harmed, she would have attacked the keeper long ago.

I’d also like to add that the keeper isn’t handling her all the time. He’s only with her when he feeds her mom and stays there to make sure the roaming moneys in the zoo can’t steal her food. All of the videos we see of her is from her keeper filming her during the time he feeds her mom, because that’s the only time he spends with them (Moo Deng and her mom)

There is also a live stream where you can watch Moo Deng from her enclosure 24/7, which proves Moo Deng spends most of her time relaxing with her mom.

The only issue is that some visitors have in the past thrown things at her to wake her up, but the zoo has threatened legal action against them and has since made sure no other visitors can bother her again, and so far there has been no reports of other incidents.

I’d also like to say that I understand why some people find the way her keeper plays with her and her other siblings to be “too rough”, as he sometimes (playfully) sprays water at them. Though I’d like to say that I genuinely believe that’s just how they play. It can seem rough in the videos, but as someone who’s seen them live, I can genuinely confirm it’s harmless and more like “how siblings play with each other”. And that they (Moo Deng’s siblings) all like him (the keeper) and are very clearly comfortable around him.

Lastly, please allow me to say that the misinformation about the zoo abusing animals is untrue; the zoo’s known among Thai people to have rescued injured animals, as well as taking in animals from abusive backgrounds whom they rescued. As we, Thai folks, would have been the first to know and call them out if they really were abusive towards their animals.

Why am I asking this? I really need to understand why Lily Orchard is as fixated as she is on malice towards Asians and I don't think it's because of anime.

In the left space there is... a not very subtle hatred of Asians. It is deep. It has been there for a very long time and it's something I've noticed is very difficult for us to address. It's something I've noticed through the lens of being Romani too. We get told a lot it's not our turn to talk and as Asians we get dismissed in totality when trying to discuss the racial prejudices we suffer, especially in the spaces where we should be safest.

The reason it's there, that I've been given, varies so I can't give you one specific thing? I've been told it's because of the age of consent in some prefectures, I've been told it's because of animal abuse, I've been told it's because of Anime, I've been told it's because of our Xenophobia, I've been told it's because of our work culture, I've been told it's because of the rate of sex crimes, I've been told it's because because of our Racism, I've been told it's because of our food, I've-

I can keep going. There's always an excuse for racism, but never an apology. At least one we don't have to fight for. We are assumed white-like, nearly white, off-white, ect in many circles.

You also have to remember what kind of household Lily grew up in and I think that plays a lot into it. Listening to how her brother and her speak about certain things it had to have been a deeply right conservative space with a ton of abuse and racism. That instills a hate in someone that you have to spend the rest of your life putting the work in to fighting against.

So, there's a lot of books that you complain about being awful (most of which I haven't read), usually because of the interpretation of some character (or many characters).

Is the problem with most of these books:

1. That the character on question has been written as a bad person,

2. That the interpretation differs from the Vulgate Cycle,

3. or the specific combination of those two things?

Or have I completely misread this situation?

See the thing is, yes it has to do with interpretation of characters, but perhaps not as superficial as it sounds! While I do love the Vulgate and prefer a more nuanced Mordred, that’s not really the root of the issue. I want Mordred to topple Camelot. I don’t expect or want authors to follow the Vulgate exclusively, there’s plenty from Chrétien or SGATGK or Parzival or the Mabinogion I’d love to see incorporated and they often are! Yay!

The real answer is a complicated thing that can only be expressed through examples because citing “misogyny” or “racism” doesn’t convey the magnitude or severity of the problem. Medieval society was misogynistic and racist at times, I don’t think those things should go ignored in a retelling. It would cheapen the narrative to pretend Guinevere’s or Morgause’s situations weren’t brought about largely due to the patriarchal systems at play nor do I want to pretend everyone who met Palomides was race blind.

Same goes for replacing Gaheris with Geraint in Sarah Zettel’s series or cutting Gareth out of Gillian Bradshaw’s trilogy. Kind of a bummer, lame even, but not a deal breaker. The things about these bad retellings that drive me mad are much more sinister than that, rooted in really detestable opinions about women and children and people of color.

Can’t Mordred, Agravaine, and Morgan be normal scheming/evil/power hungry like they were in BBC The Legend of King Arthur (1979) or Howard Pyle’s books or Knights of the Round Table (1953) instead of whatever the above are doing? Not to mention the complete violation of Guinevere, Morgause, Lancelot, and Gawain as characters. I’m so tired, man.

Hope this clears things up. Sorry if you made it through that list. I’m sure you hated reading it as much as I hated writing it. But I think it makes it clear the problem here and that I’m not just being picky. The psychic damage is taking its toll.

Transformers EarthSpark Season 2 Spoilers

If I had to describe S2A in one word, it would be: Disappointing.

Others have said this before me, but if you were a fan of S1 this most definitely isn't the show for you anymore.

S2A is so far inferior to S1 in every conceivable way. The animation, the characters, the story, it all just feels so half-assed. Every single interesting concept S1 introduced, S2A either mangled beyond belief or flat-out erased from existence.

The few new interesting things that do come up in S2A don't last long and/or are underdeveloped.

Tensions between humans and Cybertronians? Never mentioned. All the racism died with Mandroid and GHOST, I guess.

The Terrans' connection to Quintus Prime? Pfft, you're still on that? It's all about the Quintessons now, keep up nerd!

Starscream's development and start on the road to recovery from trauma? Gone. He's back to being the villain now for no reason whatsoever. He murders two actual children. What, did you think we were still doing that silly nuance thing from S1? Lol, sucks to be you.

The ongoing theme about the Transformer War not being as black and white as history would have people believe? Ummm, ackshually, the Decepticons are inherently evil and irredeemable. The Autobots are saints and have never done anything wrong or questionable, ever. Ignore the prison complex from last season that performed unethical experiments on prisoners of war. Y'know that same one that the Autobots knew about and supplied with Decepticon prisoners.

Spitfire and Aftermath are interesting in theory, but S2A doesn't really do anything with them besides making them the generic Evil Twin characters to Twitch and Jawbreaker respectively. And then Starscream murders them for his evil masterplan, which feels like a colossal waste.

I've been saying since S1 that it would be interesting to have a Terran actually choose the Decepticons over both the Autobots and the Maltos. It would've been a neat way to explore the family dynamic the 'Cons have compared to the Maltos and maybe show that just because a family is different from yours, maybe not as physically affectionate or as instantly harmonious, doesn't mean it's worse. We had a good start with Aftermath and Breakdown but that never really goes anywhere before Starscream does a Fuck Them Kids.

The Decepticons are just evil again now. Great. I guess we're completely throwing the "history isn't black-and-white" thing out of the window, huh? That whole thing where it was implied the Decepticons were rising up against an unjust system a la Aligned continuity and IDW? We kind of had a very significant confrontation between Megatron and Shockwave about that in that one episode that even explicitly referenced IDW? Or how about the whole "This is not freedom" plot line about how mayyybe throwing every Decepticon in the slammer forever might be, just might be, bad? We had a whole episode about that? Soundwave was in it?

Nah, 'Cons are unambiguously evil. Always. Especially that no-good Starscream. "What Dwells Within" and "The Last Hope, Part 2" might as well have never happened, because Starscream sure as hell doesn't act like they did. He barely even interacts with Hashtag. "Come on, did you expect Starscream to be a good guy now?" No bitch, I expected believable character development. I find it hard to believe that the same Starscream who saved Hashtag from the Cybertronian equivalent of a vampire, at risk to his own life, and then told her to take care of herself as a good-bye would just suddenly go back to the same moustache-twirling evilness we'd be expecting from G1 Starscream. You expect me to buy that this guy is the same Starscream as the one who showed up with the entire cavalry to save the world in the S1 finale?? Why go through the trouble of giving Starscream an entire episode going into his trauma and abuse and learning to be better if this is all it amounts to in the end??? At least show us how it happened? What made Starscream suddenly completely regress like that??? I don't know and the way it's going I don't think EarthSpark is all that interested in explaining it.

The Maltos remain a criminally underdeveloped hive mind. And no, I don't consider adding even more powers to their arsenal character development. Robbie and Mo still don't have any friends outside of their siblings and this season did nothing to change my mind on the cybersleeve connection being borderline creepy and making the characters co-dependent. "The Butterfly Effect" basically showed us all the reasons why having your siblings in your head 24/7 with no way to turn it off would actually suck. Cybersynching is so obviously combining with a new coat of paint and it's not even used or utilized that much in this batch.

We did not need the Quintessons in this season. At all. They added nothing except implying that Quintus Prime is shady af. Which, we been knew? The whole of "Prime Time" is literally Quintus torturing a little girl for being upset her big brother is sick and probably dying. If you wanted to explore Quintus through one of his creations seeing him in a much less benevolent light, well, how do I put this? There were two whole new characters added this season you could've done this with. Aftermath and Spitfire not being in the "We Love Quintus Prime" club together with the rest of the Terrans would make sense, since they're far more rebellious and anti-authoritarian. That would've given them something interesting to do besides being minor nuisances to the Delightful Maltos from Down the Lane.

I've heard that EarthSpark isn't doing well both in ratings and in toy sales and after that first batch I can see why.

The show is not all bad, but legit none of these characters are developed enough or distinct enough that I could see a kid wanting a toy of them. And that goes double for older fans.

The writers messed up big time and I honestly don't know if I'm gonna stay and see if they fix it in S2B.

You said the Aang vs. Ozai fight was just an anime battle because the characters hadn’t even met prior to the fight, so the emotional depth is lacking compared to the Final Agni Kai. So what if the netflix series tried to change things by actually having Aang and "Ozai" meet before the war? What if the Netflix show revealed that Ozai was Aang's friend Kuzon in his previous life?

I’m not sure, I think just because of the characters, there would be no way to give that fight the same depth as Zuko and Azula’s.

Because at the end of the day, Ozai doesn’t personally care about Aang. He’s an evil dictator and views Aang as an obstacle—an insignificant one at that, due to Ozai’s racism. Aang doesn’t care about Ozai personally either. He just wants to stop the war and Ozai represents the war. The stakes here are purely political, not personal. It would be more personal if Aang also viewed it as a revenge thing, but he clearly doesn’t.

Any kind of emotional relationship simply wouldn’t exist between them. I could maybe see Netflix trying to pull some bs to make it deeper but I hope they don’t because like I said…there isn’t a lot of room to give these characters a deep connection.

Zuko and Azula on the other hand, had a beautiful and tragic relationship that culminated in their duel. Two siblings raised in an abusive environment who clearly want to love each other but have been pit against one another their whole lives. Zuko always resented Azula for being the favorite and desperately tried to match her strength. Azula feared being put in Zuko’s role so fought desperately to maintain her favorite status, all while holding a secret resentment towards Zuko for being kinder and more loved.

There are high stakes here, and Zuko and Azula’s duel is about so much more than war. It’s personal, and the somber, tragic framing makes that obvious. Then, there is the added layer of Zuko and Katara’s relationship—how Zuko, a Prince who once considered himself above everyone else, set aside his life for a waterbender without hesitation. Then the framing again. Slow motion, emotional, raw, personal. The emotion of Katara defeating Azula and rushing to Zuko’s side to save his life in turn.

I stand by the opinion that the final Agni Kai was the best scene in the show, and that’s why. It perfectly completes the stories of Zuko, Azula, and Katara (although iffy about Azula—I’m still an Azula redemption fan but even so this is an important event for her character). It’s so emotional and intense. Beautiful animation and soundtrack. I’m sorry but I don’t think any iteration of Aang v Ozai could top that.

As much as I hate Lily Orchard, white favoritism is a thing in pretty much every fandom. One example I can think off the top of my head in the toh fandom, was back when Thanks to Them aired, and many people mocked Luz's scene in the classroom (despite being literally a display of suicidal ideation) while writing thinkpieces about Hunter's mental health and abuse, basically ignoring the Black main character's mental health issues to focus on the white boy (hopefully this doesn't come off as me hating Hunter, I like him a lot, it's just an example)

Speaking of season 3, there was quite a group of people who hated on Luz due to her mental health issues, calling her selfish and ungrateful while she was struggling with self-destructive behavior while, once again, Hunter didn't get as much backlash for his ""selfish"" behavior in For the Future, as people mostly understood he was struggling with his mental health and grief. It's a sadly common thing in fandoms to narrow Black characters down as one dimensional and "bad", while white characters get a pass and sympathy from fans

Another example of racism in the fandom, is whitewashed art of Black and brown-skinned characters, mainly Luz, and how many artists don't take this topic seriously - that was more common in the early fandom, though, thankfully becoming less frequent as time went one

There's some other examples: in 2021, there was a Skara/Edric comic that spiraled huge controversy on Twitter due to Odalia objectifying Skara and referring to her as an "it", which has very clear racist undertones. Also, art on Twitter of Luz saying she's gonna "ruin" Amity's bloodline by joining her family, also having clear racist undertones (There's likely more, but these two are the first ones to come to my mind, as they received tons of deserved backlash)

So yeah, once again, I dislike Lily Orchard, but denying racism in the fandom is just... wrong. It may be a minority of fans, especially nowadays, but it's there and it harms people of color in the fandom, who tend to get mass harassment for calling it out. I also hope this doesn't come off as rude, the post just brought back some memories of my personal experiences in the fandom, and I thought I should share

Oh my...I never knew it was that bad. The large majority of the fandom loves Luz but to hear some truly nasty people treat her and the other BIPOC characters like this is just wrong. Speaking as comic and video game fan: I know how most of the Batfam fandom will erase Cass, Duke and Steph all while propping up white/white-passing male characters like Dick, Jason, Tim and Damian (nothing against either of them); how Marvel comic fans will downplay characters like Kamala and Miles or slut-shame MJ; how lead female characters of color in games like Forspoken, Dustborn and Mirror's Edge are lambasted as "too angry", "too vulgar", "too snarky", "too unlikeable" by gamers AND critics alike while angsty white male leads in certain popular games are given free passes. I feel you, There is rampant cishet white male favouritism in ALL of nerd culture and I absolutely hate it. For the record, I have nothing against cishet white male characters in general, I just cannot stand double standards that force female and minority characters to jump through multiple flaming hoops to prove their "authenticity". I looked up the whitewashing "fanart" people were drawing of Luz, Gus, Willow, and-

Disgusting.

I really dislike how Siren Son writes some of his stories. I mean, obviously I enjoy them because I listen, but I wish he would develop his characters and stories more before ending them. For example West Haven, The Divines, Duke’s whole storyline. Like the finales offer such little payoff compared to the buildup.

Like: “Oh yeah these guys came in and saved Duke and he completely got over all his trauma and rose above killing Frey because that would be bad! It’s not like it would’ve given him closure that he needed and got rid of a well known slave holder!”

Another thing, the way he writes racism is so dumb. Like “Oh these are the racist bad guys! And these are the good guys!” There’s no in between or nuance whatsoever. Racism is a complicated, multifaceted subject that is NOT black and white. You can be against slavery and still be racist. You can be racist without knowing it! Killian was RAISED by a family of SLAVE TRADERS! Even if he believes slavery is wrong, it’s about believing one race is FUNDAMENTALLY INFERIOR. Like you can believe animal abuse is wrong without thinking that dogs have the same level of intelligence as a human. Yet Killian is like, completely woke. Siren takes inspection (supposedly) from the Atlantic Slave trade, yet refuses to acknowledge the history of it beyond “These are the good guys and these are the bad guys”

Also, somehow almost all the enslaved half-bloods know how to read? What is up with that?

People are learning about her being a terrible person for the wrong reasons. People use her media as proof that she’s shitty without talking about any of the ways she treats real people. I’m getting really pissed off by this.

I don’t give a fuck if she thinks abuse is cute in fiction. I don’t care that she made two pedophile characters. I could care so much less that one of those characters is a shape shifter and Vivzie drew soft core porn of said character with another one (god, if it’s not a fucking animal and it’s just a human being taking to form of one, don’t compare that to zoophilia. It’s not real regardless). I don’t care that people don’t like the way abuse was depicted in either of her shows. I’m so sickened by the fact that people (mostly younger people) think they are bad people for watching either shows, and genuinely asking internet strangers if they are bad people for not knowing and/or simply like the shows. I especially don’t like how people are using the people she’s hired to work on the shows against her. Some of them are proship, and Vivzie has been known to have a few proship friends. I don’t care what labels people use. I don’t care that she’s associated with proshippers, it’s not that deep. And if they do get off to xyz “bad” fiction, it didn’t appear in the shows. It’s not romanticized or fetishized or any other buzz word. It’s not that deep.

Please, for the love of god, if you want to talk about how her fiction makes her a not great person. Then talk about the voodoo shit. Talk about how her “black rep” characters are piss poor at best, and harmful stereotypes at worst. Talk about how she has a habit of creating characters basted on real life people that she knows, and actively disliked (all of which that I know of were minorities), only for them to be the butt of every joke and shown in a bad light in some way. Talk about how the characters that are meant to represent biblical figures are fucking white.

If you really want to show me how Vivzie is a bad person, and show the rest of the world how shitty she is. Please talk about her transphobia, homophobia, racism, and antisemitism. Talk about how she treated her VAs for the pilot, only to replace the with Broadway VAs. Talk about how she underpays her animators. And that’s on top of over working them! Talk about how she throws fits and actively ignores any sort of criticism of concerns of controversy because she has a mentality that anyone who dislikes her or her work are simply “haters” who are out to get her. (I will say, she has been harassed in the past, and I don’t agree with that. It’s not deserved, under any circumstances. But not everyone who has something remotely negative to say is engaging in harassment)

I keep going off about this, am I do apologize because I’m sick of it just as some of y’all are. I’m just so fed the fuck up with this whole thing, and I’m tired of the purity culture bullshit making people aware of the wrong reasons to dislike Vivzie. okay im gonna rip the bandaid off now. there are nazis in this one, and its significantly worse than youd expect just reading that. im gonna quote the old list here: "there are so many nazis in this part and they’re not condemned like at all tbh". i would almost say its glorified, one of the main allies is a nazi and another main ally directly praises a different nazi. in the manga, hitler and swastikas are explicitly shown as well as nazis being called by name, but in the anime, they are removed and simply called german soldiers.

almost nothing from this part comes back in the future and what does come back is explained as it comes up or is understandable from context. so please. if you need to skip this part, just do it. i even understand if you skip the whole series because of this.

its possible some may find the mesoamerican aesthetic of the villains in this part to be insensitive or offensive. im mexican and i personally dont, but i could see why someone would

i’ve stopped expecting interesting animation from bones. the star and stripe fight is cool but like every other fight/moment in mha, it’s only cool bc the source material itself is cool; bones does nothing to elevate the manga

they rarely try to experiment with colour and style. i saw so many colourings of the moment star and stripe made a giant version of herself out of the air; people made her look like a cosmos, like it reflected and bent the sky around her, doing so many inventive things and for the anime to just make her an outline against that godforsaken sky? i’m disappointed

but people will take me saying i’m disappointed and spin it to me saying the fight was bad. it wasn’t, just like most fights and moments in the anime aren’t bad but that’s all bc horikoshi knows how to draw. they never do anything beyond that; they never try and adapt it. whether it’s bc of time, direction, budget, or what have you, they will never do something truly inventive with their colouring

i’ve said this before and i’ll say it again, it’s not just that the sky is blue; it’s what the blue sky represents and that is an unwillingness to broaden their colour palette or atmosphere to support the changes in the tone of the story. the story isn’t just “will midoriya get into his dream high school and achieve his dream job?” it’s child abuse and societal systems and their dysfunctions, it’s racism and morality and is it right to try and save someone who’s determined to destroy the world just bc they are also a victim?

look at the finale of atla, a show that mirrors the narrative tone of mha; it starts out bright and colourful and vibrant to match the happy and small stakes nature of the story and as the tone of the story changes, the environment changes to reflect that. the siege of the north pole? everything goes blood red when the moon spirit is threatened, then goes completely desaturated when it is killed with only fire bending having any colour. the day of black sun? uses a solar eclipse to change the lighting. the entire sozin’s comet fight? has red skies and lighting to show the threat

bones abject refusal to change anything about the art itself is a detriment to horikoshi’s complex narrative
