Don't get me wrong, "The Beauty of the House is immeasurable; its Kindness infinite" is a quote that absolutely hits me square in the chest every time.
..But I feel like putting it in italics under an aesthetic picture is kinda neglecting the context, since Piranesi has Nearly Drowned when he first says that.

an entirely expected side effect of me whipping out my old external HDD is that now I AM going to rewatch basically the entirety of my canon game of Inquisition that I had mostly recorded back in like '15-'16, and get my heart torn right out again by this damn guy making this damn face

#squirrel plays dragon age#dorian pavus#turn that frown on your expressive-ass face upside down or i swear i'll get my guy to kiss it off you#and THEN you'll be sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#anyway i just rewatched the trespasser scenes and that “*you* are the man i love; amatus” took me out for a solid two seconds#clutching my chest; i am once again claimed by the sickness folks#going from “you learn not to hope for more; you'd be foolish to” to “nothing will truly keep us apart” is just.... chef's kiss#.... and yeah i'm more and more sure as time goes on that they were fully setting him up to be a returning character#whether it actually winds up happening or not; i feel like the setup is very deliberate#just by virtue of him leaving no matter what; even though in a romance he clearly doesn't want to and even says as much?#with the lines implying that he had more or less promised the inquisitor that he would stay?#it feels very intentional. like they were trying to make the ending of the romance satisfying and open to be continued#WHILE making sure that he is where he needs to be for the plot

in MDZS the novel, the innkeeper in Yunping mentions that people are too scared to go petition Yunmeng Jiang for help because someone once walked in on Sect Leader Jiang whipping a guy in the main hall, supposedly because the guy was a demonic cultivator.
#mdzs#jiang cheng#wei wuxian#jc apologism#anyways as you can hopefully tell by now this is a jc stan blog.#so as a stan i will do my rightful stan duty and insist that my fave did nothing wrong#so. onwards. the “jiang cheng tortures demonic cultivators” claim is interesting on several levels#because we don't see it happen onscreen. and because thematically mdzs is a book about the unreliability of rumors#especially when said rumors conform to your preexisting understanding of someone. or what you want to hear about someone#it would have been so easy for mxtx to include a scene where jc tortures a demonic cultivator onscreen. i would love to read it too#but that doesnt happen. when jc actually corners wwx he just shoves a dog in his face and bullies him emotionally#smh jc get your shit together!! what is this lame ass display?? not living up to your reputation here loser#anyways. tbh i consider two things separately: 1. mxtx's intentions. and 2. what the text itself implies#for 1. i am legitimately unsure of what to think. mxtx relies on rumors/empathy/etc to give us info about side characters#in part because she's constrained herself to writing from wwx's perspective and has no other easy way of getting the info to us#does she intend for us to question the rumors? or are we supposed to take them as fact because of the narration limits described?#2. what the text itself implies is not necessarily the same as what mxtx intends.#for me mdzs is in part a story about the unreliability of rumors and reputation etc etc. other meta writers than i have explained it better#so for the work to go “all the rumors about wwx were exaggerated/manipulated/not 100% correct.”#“but the rumors about everyone else are 100% true!!!!!”#is peak stupidity. and shit-tier writing#and i actually like mdzs so i would like to believe the writer is more intelligent than that#thus. i conclude in part due to this emotional necessity of mine that there must have been something more going on#anyways. i have similar opinions about the “did jiggy kill rusong” business but that's a post for later#ill probably put my jc torture opinions in their own post some day#yanyan polls

#ask me#okay there's a lot going on here but first things first#viktor has transcended the favorite character tier where I want to protect him or whatever#like yeah he did that shit! I support him but I also don't! the more trouble he gets himself into the happier I'll be!#do you feel me#like one of the things I love most about Viktor is that I feel so much sympathy for the circumstances he's in that are out of his control#but he has so much agency in his own story that everything he's gained and accomplished are because he makes choices#and GETS HIMSELF places#and now the same thing is happening with his BAD choices and I find that just as delightful if not moreso#he is the agent of his own salvation and his own destruction and I will be in the front row seat with popcorn for both or either#so writing him is mostly me studying him under the microscope poking him until he does something untoward it's very fun#I only hesitantly say that Viktor is like me but the Balkan ties and the grumpy-but-kind and obsessive personality#and the strong opinions about a chosen STEM field#are inescapable okay#mommy issues is not circled because I have mommy issues but bc I have convinced myself that Viktor WILL have them#if Nikola Tesla is anything to go by#the jayce-mel-viktor trifecta is ruled by mommy issues and i will stand by that claim#also viktor is more interesting with no therapy - with as little therapy as possible would be my preference#WITH THE EXCEPTION of the lonely genius shit that Singed planted in his head#that is absolutely the lie that Viktor believes that he MUST discard in order to progress as a character and I am excited for it#I genuinely think that Viktor will be happier and more eccentric as [REDACTED] but it won't last#he will hit a VERY LITERAL -if thy right hand offend thee cut it off- situation and then he'll have peace but he won't call it happiness#I can't say that I'd hate anyone who hurt him because that is half of why I'm excited for s2#but I will probably lose it at any scene where he loses to [REDACTED] for rivalry reasons#I genuinely do want to see Mel completely own his ass as [REDACTED] though like can you imagine the banter#and both of them secretly having fun with it

See, the thing about the Amy episode that makes Dean’s actions so reprehensible is not only the part where he doesn’t trust Sam and goes behind his back to kill Amy or even the hypocrisy of Dean ‘you can’t change what you are so you’re going to kill someone eventually’ Winchester sparing the kid right after stabbing his mom, it’s that Amy is very explicitly supposed to be a Sam parallel. There is no other way about it, from the they’re both freaks part of it to Dean dropping the line about ‘the other shoe’ right before he kills her, she is Sam, how Dean reacts to her is supposed to give us insight into how he feels about Sam. And Dean. kills her.
The not very subtle subtext being that Dean is ready to off Sam if he goes too far off the deep end? He’s aggressive and mistrustful of Sam at every turn in the episode, lays the feet of it all at Sam’s hallucinations maybe leading him astray, but end of the day, Sam’s crimes here are A) was tortured in Hell and B) is traumatized by that in a way that makes Dean’s life more difficult.
And it is hard to watch. To spend this whole episode with Sam being completely functional on his own, making a rational decision based on past experience and on all the information about Amy he has available, and for the episode to end with, ‘but yeah, if dean thinks sam goes too far, he’s probably gonna kill him. because sam can’t change or be fixed, so it’s for the good of everyone that he be put down.’
#and then of course there’s the issue of the subtext setting something up that gets no resolution like. there is no point where dean is ever#really going to be able to kill Sam. no matter how bad his hallucinations get. not even a mercy kill crosses his mind later that season#which means that the Amy episode gets rewritten later from ‘explicit Sam parallel’ to ‘well we can use this for Brother Drama™️’#god. god. and really what gets me about the Amy episode in general. like Thee Horrifying Part to me.#most of their hunts are very life or death. that’s how we get around the morality of it. either they kill the monster or it kills them.#Amy’s. not that. Dean tracks her down while she’s running and kills her while she’s asking him not to.#like if she had attacked him the scene would be totally different. but she doesn’t. she doesn’t even fight back. and he kills her.#like she has a kid and Dean is an unfriendly hunter in her motel room. it wouldn’t be out of the question for her to try to kill him#to protect herself and her kid. but she doesn’t. she doesn’t. I don’t know what you can take away from that except that she was telling#sam the truth about not wanting to be a murderer. if she won’t even try to kill Dean to protect herself.#there is no way to look at this episode that makes Dean come out looking good unless you’re willing to claim everything Amy said was a lie#AND that Dean would be right to kill Sam for *checks notes* Being Visibly Mentally Ill#fucked up. why’d they do this.#spn#dean winchester#sam winchester#amy pond#like to be clear if you’ve got a different view on this that’s. not the above thing I just said. please tell me.#because from where I’m standing Dean doesn’t come out of this clean in any way

From my source, during Future Boy Zoltron, Raven Molisee was asked to be more on model with their storyboards which... for a show that prided itself on being off-model felt a bit odd. That and some other behind the scenes nonsense that was happening around the time of s4's production wore him down, causing him to leave at the end of the season, the last scene of Are You My Dad? being the straw that broke the camel's back. Before he quit, he was apparently slated to do The Off Colors, in which he would have to board the sequence of Lars dying.............. Given how much Raven appears to love Lars, I understand why he quit.
damn i knew about the on model thing being a source of contention for him but having to board lars’ dying sequence.. i never expected that but having a favorite character can be real business. i’m also pretty sure zuke left during s4 as well which im most curious about; was s4 production that bad that both of them left? is it unrelated? did one lead to another?

like, the only true whopper in lo these two seasons has been Armand's credit-claiming for the (onstage) lifesaving, right. which was allowed to persist for not even the duration of a full episode. I don't think I'm forgetting anything here, right?
anyway, would be nice if more theorizing noticed that lol
#like having side-eyed for the whole s1-s2 gap the goofy theories about the fight I am Skeptical kwim#like I just... I sorta think in almost all cases thus far on this show#the gap between seems and is is in fact not thaaaat wide a gap#I am not counting the San Francisco erasing in the whopper bucket; that was obviously drastic but didn't rewrite anything we thought we kne#(mostly it underlined what we did know. like. sort of entirely right. Louis is miserable Daniel is vulnerable)#arguably it also foreshadowed the trial lie (Louis ultimately saved Daniel from Armand not vice versa#...but also there were two lifesaving acts and Armand did in fact perform one of them)#but if anything that foreshadowing function makes it even less proof-of-pattern that there are any other giant lies hiding#because it's so closely tied to that one#like it most narratively/technically resembles the end of s1 and Lestat's non-death: 'what happened there... oh shit THAT'S what happened'#anyway this is apropos of two things#(positive) trying to figure where on the IWTV to TVL spectrum 'why did Lestat even come to Paris' is going to end up falling#given he's presumably not like. in ill health whatsoever by then / presumably needs nothing from them?#(like yes the entire NOLA scene would be fairly dumb if we weren't pretty far to the 'mostly IWTV' side of the spectrum but still)#(NOT) encountering the claim that Armand is lying in the Lourve wtabsolutef talk about a good match for the post-s1e5 bullshit#do these people hear themselves.
