something about how wyll calls his romanced partner his “shining star,” and how i didnt know that at all, and the first time i romanced wyll HAPPENED to be in my first origin astarion campaign. something about him saying “to think i almost missed the light” to astarion, who at that point in time would still be in the process of manipulating him for protection/realize that hes a fool whose fallen for the literal fairytale prince a younger him once fantasized about marrying. something about astarion taking every opportunity he can to remark on how handsome and sweet wyll is, despite apparently despising heroes— and wyll doing the exact same thing, despite being a literal monster hunter. something about wyll having special unique lines for origin romances in his act 3 romance scene. how even if you dont romance him, if youre playing astarion and approach him at the epilogue party he is absolutely Delighted to see you and remarks on how much he missed you (and your hair, lmao). just something about two characters who have had their autonomy stripped away from them for years finding love and safety in each other. i dont think i can ever be normal about these two.

George Martin, 2013: "In a very basic level winter is coming for all of us. I think that’s one of the things that art is concerned with: the awareness of our own mortality. “Valar morghulis” – “All men must die”. That shadow lies over our world and will until medical science gives us all immortality… but I don’t think it makes it necessarily a pessimistic world. Not any more pessimistic than the real world we live in. We’re here for a short time and we should be conscious of our own mortality, but the important thing is that love, compassion and empathy with other human beings is still possible. Laughter is still possible! Even laughter in the face of death… The struggle to make the world a better place… We have things like war, murder and rape… horrible things that still exist, but we don’t have to accept them, we can fight the good fight. The fight to eliminate those things. There is darkness in the world, but I don’t think we necessarily need to give way to despair. One of the great things that Tolkien says in Lord of The Rings is “despair is the ultimate crime”. That’s the ultimate failing of Denethor, the Steward of Gondor, that he despairs of ever being able to defeat Sauron. We should not despair. We should not go gentle into that good night".
JRR Tolkien, 1962 : "One reviewer once said, this is a jolly jolly book, all the right boys come home [...]- this isn't true of course, he can't have read the story. [...] Human stories are practically always about one thing, really, aren't they? Death. The inevitability of death. . . . . . (He quotes Simone de Beauvoir) 'There is no such thing as a natural death. Nothing that ever happens to man is natural, since his presence calls the whole world into question. All men must die, but for every man his death is an accident, and even if he knows it he would sense to it an unjustifiable violation.' Well, you may agree with the words or not, but those are the key spring of The Lord Of The Rings".
"Lotr is all rainbows and unicorns and Asoiaf is nihilistic and grimdark". Wrong, and wrong. In all its hope and radiance, lotr often gets very dark, and despite all the death and suffering, the hopeful moments in asoiaf shine bright. The meeting point of these two is this: having hope while in despair, and even better, refusing to give up because you have to go on despite not having any hope left.

I am SO fucking over the Neelix haters oh my god. Like, if you simply don't enjoy him personally but recognise it as just a taste thing that's fine ofc but they always wanna claim he's a bad character or even a bad person. Newsflash asshole, he's neither!!
Their "reasons" usually either boil down to "he's annoying" which 1) untrue and 2) so?? just think about another character then, there's no accounting for bad taste lmao OR "he dated Kes who is one year old at the start and that means he's terrible" which. First off. First off! Kes is a fucking adult and can do what she wants (and also I've said this in an ask I sent recently and I won't go into detail rn but if you don't have a problem with the Doctor having romance/sex subplots but do with Kes you're a fucking hypocrite and also fuck you) and secondly yea the "character is chronologically young but already an adult" premise is a little sus but in that case you should maybe blame the fucking writers and not Neelix?? He is acting based on in universe information what is your fucking problem??
Y'all just hate to see a short king winning 🙄

no cause WHY does the prison ball adrienette scene back in risk LITERALLY remind me of yuchi. marinette and machi are the ONLY ONES who see right through adrien and yuki's facades and form strong connections with them (not saying nino and haru and kakeru don’t).
marinette can see that adrien does not like modeling and that he wants to quit and so she helps him stand up to his father. adrien does this in multiplication when he confronts gabriel about not wanting to model anymore. on the other end of the spectrum, machi sees yuki for who he is and doesn't consider him to be princely-like at all. with this, and tohru's influence on yuki as a whole, he gains up the courage to go to the new year's banquet and tell akito his true feelings on, well, how he's changed as a person in S2E24.
another example of adrienette being similar to yuchi is how once adrien starts dating marinette, he is able to help her after he finds out what chloe did to her in derision, saying that they'll get through it together even though it's scary and hard (he also legit confronts chloe about it too). yuki, already on his journey of healing thanks to tohru, helps machi by acknowledging her and saying that he'll make footprints on the snow with her after she opens up about her trauma, easing her fear of perfection.

So, about the fir writing ask! :D(uh, is there a limit how much I am allowed to ask? ^^;)I REAAAALLY wanna know: 1. the last sentence you wrote 3. how you feel about your current WIP 6. the word that appears the most in your current draft 12. a trope you’re really into right now 16. favorite place to write And if I'm allowed I'd also like 22. do you ever worry about public reaction to what you’re writing? how do you get past that? 23. pick three keywords that describe your writing. THANK UUUU <3
(ask meme here)
Below a cut because this is lengthy!
the last sentence you wrote
Oh boy, uhhhh, let's see...
The shelving is twisted almost beyond the point of recognition, its contents long since incinerated or melted into sludge.
(Scene-setting...my weakness...)
3. how you feel about your current WIP
Actually pretty good? I'm still enough in the middle that I cannot see the full shape of the thing yet, but far enough in that I'm not banging my head against the wall trying to get some kind of direction or momentum. Will it ever be available for public consumption? Who knows. But I am having fun with it!
6. the word that appears the most in your current draft
I'm crying. It's "Essek." Who could have guessed that the narrator's name would be the most commonly occurring word. #2 is "says." Deeply boring results, I am afraid.
12. a trope you’re really into right now
Man, tropes... When it comes to reading, fake dating is my one true weakness (it's SO easy to get me to read a fake dating fic but I WILL be furious the whole time if it's insufficiently fake dating-esque/if you do not understand the Point and Allure of fake dating), but I don't know that there are Established Tropes that I tend to be really into when it comes to writing. My most common additional tags are "Canon Compliant" (not a trope), "Character Study" (genre, not a trope), "PTSD" (also not a trope), and "Unreliable Narrator" (????).
If we're going for Queenie-generated tropes, obviously "every relationship has at least two people and at least one ghost" is up there forever and ever. I was going to try to say something about the "tropes" (central themes) of my current WIP but it sounded too much like the abstract of an academic paper on identity construction so we're gonna call it while we're ahead.
16. favorite place to write
*world's heaviest sigh*
Unfortunately....the bus to/from work is where I do the majority of my writing these days. I am aware that this is cursed behavior.
22. do you ever worry about public reaction to what you’re writing? how do you get past that?
On one hand, yes, but on the other hand, no. Historically, I have had fics stall out because I was in fandom spaces that were setting off my anxiety really bad (disjoint stalled out for ~6 months for this reason). disjoint and a flower blooming were probably the two fics that I was most nervous about public reaction to, simply because A. I'm less well-versed in VA canon than other parts, B. I have a VERY different read on a lot of characters than the fandom norms, and C. I know that VA fandom has some, ah, dramatic corners. (Public reaction was mostly fine in both cases, for the record!)
On the other hand, I do not have a huge following and I tend to write pretty weirdo niche stuff, so a lot of the time I am aware that I'm writing for an audience of me, the one to three friends who are excited about the concept, and then whoever else randomly stumbles across it once it's posted. Often I'm expecting a total lack of public reaction rather than, like, someone showing up in my comment section with a pitchfork. That's its own weird experience to navigate (spending a really long time working on something that then gets very little response), BUT the nice thing about not posting anything until the whole draft is done is that I cannot get discouraged by the response and lose the motivation to finish it.
23. pick three keywords that describe your writing
UHHHHHH, I am always wretched at these; let's go with:
nonlinear
embodied
blank space [this is two words but just go with it]

This is literally what happened between Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon from The Mentalist 🤣🤣
Stay
Tommy gets a job in another state and asks Buck to come with him
Buck agrees and the 118 throw him a goodbye party, where everyone except Eddie try to talk him out of moving out
Buck leaves for the airport
Chris convinces his dad to go after Buck and beg him to stay
Eddie goes to the airport, buys a random ticket to get through security, but everyone already boarded the plane
“You don’t understand, I have to talk to him. He is about to move to another state for a man that doesn’t deserve him. Not that I deserve him, but I’m willing to spend the rest of my life trying to. He is the kindest person you will ever meet, he loves with his whole being and gives his whole self to every person he meets, especially the ones he cares about. And too many of them and that includes me take it for granted. I don’t want to take it for granted anymore, I want to tell him that I love him, that I’m in love with him and that I want him to stay. Stay in LA and by my side. Tell him that he is part of my family and that after my son, which he is basically raising with me, he is the most important person in my life. That I’ll die without him by my side, that I want us to spend this and every other lifetime together even though I don’t believe in that crap, but he does. He believes in the universe and I’m willing to believe in it too. For him and with him, because the universe may have brought us together, but I would choose him every time even if it didn’t. I want to choose him this time and I want him to choose me, but I can’t do that if you don’t let me go after him.”
“Sir, the plane has already left, but I think one of the passengers stayed.” The woman nods in the direction of someone behind Eddie’s back
Eddie turns around and sees the love of his life staring back at him with wide and slightly glazed eyes.
“Bu-” He doesn’t get to finish, before Buck’s lips are on his.

Wait. Logistically speaking. Would Elluin even know how to read.
#i've had this in the drafts contemplating for days#like. he had a frankenstein creature situation of being reborn with no memory of anything.#and even if language magically stuck with him you got the First World time thing going on#something something you're alone after coming into a new existence. You're on a field. It's day. And you exist#and you exist. and you exist. and you exist. and you exist. It's day.#is it the same? is it different?#you exist. nothing changes. you slowly lose your mind. it's still day. you exist. you exist.#thorns grow around you. under you. under your skin. do you have skin? The more you struggle the worse it gets. It's still day#anything he did know he forgot at that time so#even after being kicked off to golarion it's not like he could have like. a teacher dfjg#half of it was spent in an inq asylum which was not at all traumatizing and from which he got out in a very moral way for sure#and after that he was scraping by on the streets until areelu snatched him up#like. makes sense he's be able to Speak common- as this all takes place through an indeterminate amount of years#up to interpretation since he wasnt keeping track but the post first world era alone was probably many centuries.#but when would he have been able to pick up reading? Since he'd have to do it on his own too.#not like a fucked up little not quite but mostly fey creature could go up to any temple and expect to be trusted enough for charity#the hc is that the wound winds up disguising his fey with a mortal soul business since it overshadows it. before that though nope!#he'd have been clocked as fey by anyone that can sense it even in elf form#basically. Galfrey what have you fucking done putting this guy in charge dfjghfh#maybe he can read a LITTLE. just enough to make do at first at least#would probably try to get some help on the sly because there's a minimum of two companions that should Never Know (Nenio and Daeran)#Nenio for reasons you can probably guess Daeran less because Ellu cares about being insulted-#more so because he doesn't have anything funny to retort with. like yeah i can't. kind of sad isn't it. and now the conversation is awkward#great and now i'm thinking about how much he deserved to live again#There's some great parallels with Orion actually. They were in a very similar mental place at the climax of their respective stories#dare i say Elluin actually deserved to live more. Which is why he doesn't#oc: elluin

Why I think Caitlyn didn’t ask Vi for forgiveness
(Thank 'anons' for your messages. I’ll try to respond to you through this text: )
Tumblr media
The importance of Caitlyn’s “I know”
A key moment in Caitlyn’s character narrative is her “I know”—both its content and delivery.
The content: When Caitlyn says, “I know,” it doesn’t just mean “You’re right.” It means, “I’ve taken the time to think about this.” And thinking is what Caitlyn does best. Her “I know” conveys that she has already had this conversation with herself, over and over in her head. She’s thought about it constantly, she’s already told herself these things, and she’s already blamed herself for them.
The delivery: She screams it with violence, and we can see this represented by the boat falling apart. It’s not just that she has thought about it; it’s tormenting her. Her “I know” is incredibly powerful because it’s filled with suffering.
To me, this is as valid as an apology because asking for forgiveness is outward-facing—focused on the other person. "Asking for forgiveness" says, “Whether I’ve forgiven myself or not, whether I feel guilty or not, it’s on you to decide to forgive me.”
But here, Caitlyn’s “I know” is inward-facing. It means, “I’m not asking you to forgive me because I can’t even forgive myself.”
She knows everything you’re saying, and it torments her.
This is followed by:
"I didn’t even have time to think before they hauled her off."
This line is so telling. Everything about Caitlyn is tied to thinking and reflection.
Being a sniper means aiming and shooting. Aiming is the equivalent of thinking, and shooting is the equivalent of speaking. Everything Caitlyn does is deliberate and thought through.
This is why some people dislike her: as I’ve said before, unlike other characters, Caitlyn’s actions can’t be forgiven easily because she doesn’t do anything by accident.
Then we get to:
"We can’t erase our mistakes. None of us."
Caitlyn speak in “we.”
In the prison scene with Jinx:
Tumblr media
"No amount of good deeds can undo our crimes."
This scene mirrors the rage she felt when she threw the boat. In this moment, she’s speaking to Jinx, but also to herself.
Caitlyn and Jinx are paralleled so many times throughout the show. Caitlyn quickly realized that, in some ways, she had become like Jinx. And so, in order to forgive Jinx, she would first have to forgive herself.
At this point in the episode, the person Caitlyn hates the most is herself.
But she no longer has the "energy" to hate, neither Jinx nor herself.
Energy comes from fuel. What she perceives as a lack of strength to keep fighting is simply the fact that the fuel that powered her hatred has disappeared. And when you stop feeding a fire, it eventually dies out. She has no energy left; she has no fuel to sustain her hatred.
It's a particular way of saying, I don’t hate you anymore, and I don’t want to hate myself anymore either, because in the end, that hatred corrupts us/everything .
In her own unique way, Jinx also says, I didn’t know your mother was there, even if it wouldn’t have changed anything. And this too is a strange way of taking a step toward the other.
We have two brilliant and intelligent women who express their emotions in unconventional ways. ----------
There’s also a whole analysis that could be done about her concept of justice and rules, "but I don’t have the energy" to dive into that here. Still, it would only lead back to the fact that Caitlyn doesn’t see herself as the right person to free Jinx (and therefore to forgive her) because she believes she herself is beyond forgiveness.
