I always have to force myself to not put too much time into these Quartett pieces, still this one took way too long because I changed up Fëanor's face like 5 times 🥲 (and I'm still not super happy)

Friendships with Elves must be so frightening to the Mortal races. Your entire lifetime is really just the equivalent of a day to them. A blip. A Tuesday. If an Elf got busy or lost track of time, you could easily be dead from old age by the next time they remembered to visit you.
And how utterly heartbreaking it must be for Elves to love Mortals. Imagine loving someone only to have them expire from existence so quickly, so that the time you had with them feels like it was barely anything and never enough.

Mordor & Barad Dûr
If one were to look upon the dark tower, wearing the master ring, it may become a shining beacon over the country filled with shadow. And one might feel drawn towards it. Like a great current pulling at the soul. Towards what is waiting there in the unseen world.

This is something small I originally made for my sister and me to joke around about :)
Poor little Lómion was way too young to be in that Lord's of Gondolin boys club without probably getting more traumatized 😂

ATLAS OF ARDA ⇢ THE DEAD MARSHES
↳ for@tolkienhorrorweek Day 3: The Dead Marshes
‘I don’t know,’ said Frodo in a dreamlike voice. ‘But I have seen them too. In the pools when the candles were lit. They lie in all the pools, pale faces, deep deep under the dark water. I saw them: grim faces and evil, and noble faces and sad. Many faces proud and fair, and weeds in their silver hair. But all foul, all rotting, all dead. A fell light is in them.’ Frodo hid his eyes in his hands. ‘I know not who they are; but I thought I saw there Men and Elves, and Orcs beside them.’ ‘Yes, yes,’ said Gollum. ‘All dead, all rotten. Elves and Men and Orcs. The Dead Marshes. There was a great battle long ago, yes, so they told him when Sméagol was young, when I was young before the Precious came. It was a great battle. Tall Men with long swords, and terrible Elves, and Orcses shrieking. They fought on the plain for days and months at the Black Gates. But the Marshes have grown since then, swallowed up the graves; always creeping, creeping.’ (x)

"He was as noble and fair as an elf-lord, as strong as a warrior, as wise as a wizard, as venerable as a king of dwarves, and as kind as summer."
is such an amazing character description. All of it lends to the image of a being who is very stately and aged, but "kind as summer" in particular is incredibly evocative. Even if you generally dislike summer (like me), you can't help but know what it means.
It just conjures up the image and feeling of the softest most beautiful day, golden sunlight, flowers and meadows. Just life. And there is strength in summer. The heat of the sun, and summer is all about vitality and growth.
That short phrase says so much and shows Elrond's character so well. After everything he's been through, he still has so much life and strength.
He manages to show so much softness and kindness to people who come to him and his home for help, and is a person of healing, and the fact that he is able to be so and to remain so kind is his strength.
#And Rivendell is a place of sanctuary and healing/growth that he made after destruction and darkness - like spring or summer after winter#sorry for this ramble#but i have a super bad imagination/hard time picturing things from books#so the fact that this evokes so much for me always makes me ramble#tolkien is such a master of language and character etc#the hobbit#lord of the rings#the rings of power#rings of power#trop#rop#lotr#elrond#silmarillion#tolkien#jrr tolkien#elrond peredhel#elrond half elven#rivendell

Found this in my draft box. Must have done it around eight years ago on my phone with fingers. Then totally forgot about it. I’m also shocked how I portrayed her face very similar to my mum’s.
