The competition required for one to wear a mask. Among the hunters was one announced as "The Barnowl."

The mask was carved from wood, the eye holes covered in a form of black glass. In this contest between Immortals and Spirits, it could only be enchanted, so that the wearer could see in the dark through those lenses.

The only thing revealing the hunter as a woman, were the curves revealed by parts of the outfit. She didn't speak to anyone, except those managing the contest, and even then that was done in private, out of hearing range of others.

Her chosen weapon revealed her to be an archer. A recurve bow, short, but with an assortment of arrows. Meant to kill, or at least paralyze, depending on the target.

I was helping a friend set up a new laptop today and we started talking knitting and crochet. This is a lady who's about 30 years older than me and has been knitting and crocheting likely for a long as I've been at alive.

She brought out some of the pieces she makes to sell. There were all the traditional granny knits in acrylic yarn: baby blankets, socks, mittens, etc. and every single piece was exquisitely made. Every stitch was perfect, every seam invisible. It was breathtaking.

Anyhow, it makes me think that when someone tries to highlight modern knitting and crochet by throwing older women under the bus with comments like, "not your grandmother's knitting," we need to tell them to STFU. Our grandmothers' knitting was/is steeped in tradition and skill and the rest of us should wish we have even just a portion of the ability they did/do.

I like to think that how Lilith learned to fly was in much the same way that Sanguinius learned to fly. Ie, jumping off cliffs and letting the updrafts catch and learning that way.

Sanguinius sees nothing wrong with this. He was fine and he's certain Lilith will learn the same way. Except he also helps throw her up in the air. He also sees no issues with this. A lot of people vastly disagree with this and later recounting this to Horus, who feels nothing but sheer concern that his brother has quite literally thrown a child off a cliff.

Lilith also recounts this fondly and Malcador understands that Sanguinius is as dubiously sane as the Emperor. He thought that came with age. Apparently not. However, this also means everyone in the palace has to understand that both Sanguinius and Lilith see the giant windows of the Imperial palace as alternative doors. Why else would they be big enough for a primarch to fit through?

Ive had two professors now that are married and also both doctors so their titles are just Dr. __ and Dr. __ and it really makes me think of jayvik now especially bc i love aus when theyre professors…. Married and viktor taking jayces last name and so its just Dr Talis and Dr Talis and then even worse theyre in the exact same field so its like “who do you have for biomechanical engineering?” “Dr talis” “which one” “huh??? The one who teaches biomechanics??” “I know. Which one.”

god i wish we had gotten more of twelve with river song. he just meshes so well with her and since their time streams are finally (almost) synced up you don’t feel the imbalance of maturity/knowledge that you get in a lot of eleven’s time with her, and less general timeline “where are they right now what the fuck is happening” fuckery to sort through. just a husband and wife who have lived so much together and know it’s coming to an end very soon so they have to relish it (even if river doesn’t have the knowledge of her own death the way the doctor does, she knows it’s almost over because her diary is running out of pages). and i love watching this older, less theatrical, more rough-around-the-edges doctor with her because it develops their dynamic and the passage of time for the doctor so well. he's not eleven, trying to hide the pain and damage anymore. he doesn't spin off lies and deflections. he wears the hurt and is comfortable in it, and river is there to bring the joy and wonder out. they just have a more mature, beautiful relationship to me.

twelve and river were such a delight to watch because (this is getting into hot take territory here sorry) once capaldi took over from matt smith, the show basically gave up on the whole “the doctor is very attractive and all the women want him” narrative that it pushed for eleven. of course it was there with ten but i think it got Egregious with eleven. moffat really wanted us to believe matt smith was the hottest man in the universe (and he’s not unattractive! i admit i thought he was attractive when i first watched doctor who years and years ago! the writing was just over the top with it!) twelve is not some young whimsical prettyboy anymore— he’s abrasive, blunt, and old. the show doesn’t treat him like he’s supposed to be attractive, which makes him and river’s relationship feel so real.

first off i want to point out that river is still very much attracted to the doctor in his new body which was so exciting for me because how often to we get to see romance and desire and (sexually) intimate relationships in people past the age of 35??? hardly ever! how often do we see a beautiful woman expressing desire for a man that’s not young or conventionally handsome NOT because she has ulterior motives or we’re supposed to believe he’s actually the sexiest man alive but because she simply loves him? how often do we see relationships where no matter how much change they go through, even when one of them has turned into an entirely different person (figuratively or literally), the love stays steady and unchanged? especially when these changes involve aging? there isn’t nearly enough. and seeing it is kind of healing for me, just a reminder that you can have love and intimacy and passion even when you’re not “young and beautiful” anymore

twelve and river’s relationship is just charged with so much shared experience and trust and i wish we had gotten to see more of it. in conclusion i want a special that recaps the 24 years on darillium thank you and goodbye

there are very few things, if any, i have been embarrassed to have told my therapist about in the six-ish months i’ve been seeing her

but it has been about 3 weeks since i spent the last 20 minutes of a 1 hour session explaining the plot of the locked tomb to her and im still wondering? why???? i did that????????

Cpr

In Romance novels I've noticed the Cpr trope a bunch of times (mc/lo perform Cpr on mc/lo and they kiss or indirectly kiss I guess) and its relatively harmless BUT sometimes they will have the character giving Cpr being a professional (think lifeguard or firefighter or whatever) and that's where it loses me.

Life breaths are no longer allowed (except if you're a lifeguard/coastguard but I'll get to that) because of potential diseases from saliva etc. Normally people have this weird tube

Which they shove down the unconscious persons throat to open the airway (unconscious people don't have a gag reglex which is why they can) and then they attach it (or use on its own) this device

Which they fill with air and squeeze the bag on the end to pump air into the persons body (you can't put too much air in the bag or the persons lungs will pop, extra tip if you need to do cpr on a baby you loosely fill your cheeks with air and puff with that cause if you don't you will pop the babies lungs and do chest compressions with two fingers)

The only time anyone would do life breaths depends on two conditions:

They don't have access to this other equipment

The person is directly related to them or are a child

I mentioned life guards were an exception. Life guards can do life breaths but they must be through the nose. Which was really weird pantomiming on the cpr doll.

Rewatching the atlantean episodes of season 4 of YJA, and while I get why the writers went with making Lori, Topo, Coral, Garth, Ronal, and Beluga representatives of various Atlantean city-states for the sake of convenience (and not having to introduce new characters), at the same time there's a part of me that's less than thrilled about it. :/

Like yes, I can buy them all winding up in official positions that could easily warrant them being included in some sort of council, but being representatives for entirely separate city-states... I dunno.

(Long story short: whenever I get my Atlantean World-Building series going, I'm definitely taking a different approach.)
