if you like crafting and also free things, might i suggest the antique pattern library?
it’s a not for profit that’s gathering books, patterns, and other materials related to crafting that are out of copyright (or getting permission from copyright holders in some cases) in order to share them online. they scan items, clean them up, then make everything available for free!
free things are great, especially when you’re just starting to get into something. like oh, i’m supposed to spend money on this hobby i just picked up 20 minutes ago???
the first time i ended up on the site, i seriously spent hours just trawling through everything. there’s the usual suspects like knitting, crochet, embroidery, but there’s also woodwork, calligraphy, and books on things like how to mount and frame pictures. with cross stitch patterns, they also make modern charts with the dmc colour codes available.
links to their webbed site and instagram:

behold, a glorious cat cross stitch pattern (link goes to antique pattern library page):

Look at this bad boy!!
I saw it hanging on the wall in a Facebook pic of a local thrift store. By the next day it was mine, despite the fact I was sure it wouldn't fit me and it sat on my desk for the last few weeks while I tried to think of some alternate use for it.
But tonight I tried it on and hallelujah, it fit! Yes, it's tight but it fits, and Raphael looks fantastic spread across my boobs

Yowzers.
I have not been hit with purse lust this hard since I first saw the (now mine) black Michael Kors Manhatten bag. This one is apparently the Grace K by a business called Kartell and isn't produced any more. Used ones seem to go for $150-200 Canadian.
There are other colors, but this one is giving me slight horror vibes with that dead flesh sort of colour. Regardless, I'm in love.
I'm going to put big must-have energy into the universe in the hopes that an affordable one will eventually cross my path.

I've lost the Plot
If there's one thing I'm going to do it's take probably too many pictures of my outfit or regret not taking photos forever and there no in between. That's two things. I'm also bad at math. Unless it's story problems. Ask me how many bottles of dish soap Brian has I was paying attention.
Anyway I put this fit together to help someone move heavy shit. I've helped like 4 people move heavy shit recently that feels like all I'm doing these days.

“I found this 50s dress at a vintage-by-the-pound place in Williamsburg floating in a sea of Y2K and 80s acetate. It’s absolutely homemade and my guess is that it was likely the result of an old Vogue or Simplicity pattern. She’s flannel with shell buttons and she’s really special. I collect colorful square-crown wide-brim hats. This one is nothing special, but the color sure is. I was given the scarf, and the sweater is a recent eBay find. The shoes are Carel. I find as I get older, I gravitate toward more quality textiles and classier silhouettes. It helps to distract from the dumpster fire that is my existence.”

I already had the pants that I made a couple years ago (interestingly for another wedding) so I decided to level up and add welt pockets to a vest.
Had a family wedding to attend and wanted to look my dapper best. I purchased a couple of bolts of this brushed cotton herringbone with the intention of making a three piece suit out of it.
Did a test run on scrap, cut out my pattern, sewed in my darts, and added the first pocket. Isn't it beautiful?
Reader, she should have stopped there.
I added the pocket to the other side, placing it the same distance from the top of the dart, not the bottom of the vest.
Grievous error that I didn't notice until I put it on after buttons, buttonholes, and topstitching. The pockets don't line up.
Curses.
So I did what any sane and normal person who is most certainly not under a deadline or anything and obsessed about it for a day before making a whole new vest, this one with one waist pocket and one chest pocket.
Final look, complete with pocket watch and purchased jacket (because I'm still trying to fit a jacket pattern).

This just came across my dash, so I thought I'd share that my friend passed away last week. She was over 80 and intelligent, witty, vibrant and strong. No part of her was 'cute' or 'adorable' or any adjective that we often like to patronizingly call elderly people. She was amazing and her knitting was perfection.
RIP My friend. You will be missed.
I was helping a friend set up a new laptop today and we started talking knitting and crochet. This is a lady who's about 30 years older than me and has been knitting and crocheting likely for a long as I've been at alive.
She brought out some of the pieces she makes to sell. There were all the traditional granny knits in acrylic yarn: baby blankets, socks, mittens, etc. and every single piece was exquisitely made. Every stitch was perfect, every seam invisible. It was breathtaking.
Anyhow, it makes me think that when someone tries to highlight modern knitting and crochet by throwing older women under the bus with comments like, "not your grandmother's knitting," we need to tell them to STFU. Our grandmothers' knitting was/is steeped in tradition and skill and the rest of us should wish we have even just a portion of the ability they did/do.

I bought this yellow purse at a thrift store months ago. I had planned to do something with it, but it wasn't until yesterday that I knew what it was.
Today I went at it with a sharpie, and although I messed up some in a few spots I'm going to keep going, and I'll figure out how to fix my mistakes as I go.
It was this or sell a kidney to buy a Joshua Vides Fendi bag, and I sort of like my kidneys.
