SERIES MASTERLIST
Joel locked his front door, a bit grumpy that he had to be up this early. Ever since he started working with his father when he turned 16 last week, he had been given the very unwanted task of feeding the animals first thing in the morning, which, as far as ranch life was concerned, was the God-awful five in the morning. He felt as if he had just fallen asleep, and here he was, walking over to the family ranch with his eyes hardly opened.
Part 11
OK SO I HAVE ZERO SELF CONTROL SO IMMA JUST UPLOAD THE EPILOGUE TODAY TOO. HOPE YOU LIKE IT. TQ SO MUCH FOR READING! đĽ°đĽ°đĽ°
---
The family had stayed up late last night, and he didnât want to leave early just to catch his unfortunate, usual bedtime. It was a special event, after all.
Fifty years. Thatâs how long his namesake, his Pops and beloved Nana had been together. And it was hard not to feel jealous of them. They were still so very much in love. For as long as he remembered, it was rare to see one of them without the other. Pops was never an idle man, always working on something or other, and Nana was always right there, keeping him company, a project always in her hands for the grandchildren or the business. They were always talking and laughing, hands on each other at all times, giggling like teenagers in love. How a couple could go fifty years without running out of things to talk about, he never knew. But he would love to find out one day.
Considering the amount of times he heard Pops tell the same story over and over again, he was shocked to find out that he had never told anyone the story of how he and Nana had met and married in the first place. He was saving this story for their fiftieth anniversary, he had told everyone during his speech last night, the room filled with the original Millers, children and grandchildren, and family friends.
Everyone listened intently, this old man telling his family how he came to meet the love of his life, his very reason for living, his eyes full of love for her, full of nostalgia and happy memories with her.
âThank you for a wonderful fifty years, darling, I am the luckiest man alive. My heart beats only for you, my dear. I love you so much.â He then took Nana by the hand and kissed her lovingly.
The whole room was silent. There was not a dry eye in the room. Great Uncles Will, Tommy and Benny and Great Aunts Liv, Maria and Diana were the only ones who knew the story, and even they were teary. Shockingly, not even Great Uncle Max and Great Aunt Tess knew this, despite the fact that they had all been friends for fifty years. Heck, they were the unofficial Millers.
Aunt Ellie, despite knowing she was adopted and was there from the beginning, apparently didnât know this either. She and Aunt Sarah were inconsolable, sitting in their brother, his fatherâs arms while the story was being told. His father was wiping tears off his cheek, touched by his parentsâ love story. The siblings went over and hugged their parents, crying into their shoulders, thanking them for being the greatest parents anyone could hope for.
If he was ever lucky enough to fall in love one day, Joel hoped he would have a story like that to tell too. And that, in his mind, was a tough one to beat.
He walked quickly in the early spring morning, wanting to get the job done as quickly as possible. Nana had promised him breakfast today. And he was never going to say no to that. He walked past the office and workshop for the tailoring business that Nana and Great Aunt Maria started, Miller Tailoring, which Aunt Sarah and Aunt Lucy, along with Aunt Ellieâs partner, Aunt Dina, now ran. Right next door was Millerâs Constructions, the business his Pops and Great Uncles started. Aunt Ellie ran it now, some of his male cousins working under her. To no oneâs surprise, she was the only child from the first generation of the original Millers who had taken to carpentry and building, despite everyone being roped in for the work in the beginning. She really was her Papaâs daughter.
Joel had the option of working for either business, as everyone in the family did, but he knew squat about tailoring, taking almost ten minutes to thread a needle, and successfully crushed his thumb the first time he tried to hammer a nail in place. So here he was, headed for the ranch, which his father and Uncle Danny ran together at this ungodly hour to earn his place in the family business. Everyone starts from the bottom of the barrel, Pops had said, even family.Â
Pops, Nana and the great aunts and uncles were all retired now, reaping the benefits of their hard work during their youth. Apparently, the lands began as a combined less than half an acre between the four families. They had expanded to over 70, and there were talks of expanding further.
Joel hurried, the morning chill that still came with early spring starting to get to him. He quickly did his tasks, some of the ranch hands already there, making sure he performed them up to standards. By the time he finished, the sun was up, and he quickly ran to his Pops and Nanaâs to get that promised breakfast, always a treat. He needed it for the rest of his work day, after all.
He and his cousins loved their grandparents. Loved the advantage of living in close quarters with everyone. Pops and Nanaâs house was basically sanctuary. No one could be harmed if they were there. Hugs from Nana were the best, her beef and vegetable stew even better.
Aunt Ellie, Aunt Sarah and his Mama all learned how to make that stew, but none of them could quite get it to taste exactly like Nanas. If he was lucky, he could have whateverâs left of that delicious stew she made for Pops last night for breakfast, that is, if Pops hadnât devoured all of it himself after everyone left. It was his favourite meal, despite the unfortunate event that was the stewâs first try, which left everyone howling last night. Pops claimed it was delicious, to which Great Aunt Maria answered with a quick âHeck no it wasnât,â to a roar of laughter from everyone. Pops then told everyone that he would eat it every day if it meant staying married to Nana, earning him a kiss from her. She still blushed every time they kissed. It really was the sweetest thing to behold.
Sometimes, they stayed over just to hear Nana read to Pops, his head in her lap, her hand scratching his head absentmindedly. He knew Pops could read. He distinctly remembered him reading contracts and newspapers. Apparently he could not read very well when they first married, and the habit of listening to her read to him stuck. And after all these years, they still kept that tradition alive, even if the grandchildren joined in. But Pops always had one restriction for these sessions - her lap was for his use only, much to his grandchildrenâs chagrin. Greedy, greedy, greedy.
When he approached, the house was still dark. He knocked on the front door, placing the jars of fresh milk he had brought for them on the bench that supposedly no one was allowed to use ever, it was their special bench, that and the swing overlooking the land. Aunt Ellie, Aunt Sarah and his father had often complained that their only times spent on that swing were back when they still couldnât form memory, how unfair!
Weird, Joel and his cousins used to think â he and his cousins played on that swing all the time, Pops and Nana watching them happily. Maybe itâs true, parents and grandparents had different rules and standards, even if they were the exact same people.
There was no answer. He knocked again, harder this time, just for good measure. The grandchildren had always been warned again and again by their parents to knock when visiting Pops and Nana. You never knew what those two were up to behind closed doors. Apparently, the three siblings found out the hard way. What they saw still haunted them to this day.
There was still no answer, so Joel used the key everyone seemed to have and unlocked the front door. The house was quiet. It was almost seven, it was quite unthinkable that they were still asleep, even with last nightâs festivities. Early birds get the worms, Pops always said.
He didnât know why, but standing there in that familiar room, there was an unease in his heart. He ran up the stairs and frantically knocked on their bedroom door. Nothing. He knocked again, yelling for his Pops and Nana, his heart beating fast. He opened the door and rushed in.
There they were, still in bed, the framed old kerchief and lace hankerchief with their initials in the corners on the wall above their head. They were facing each other, looking so peaceful and in love. Pops holding Nana close to his chest with his right arm, his left holding her right hand between their bodies, fingers entwined, legs tangled, his lips on her forehead.
They looked like they were sleeping, but his heart was telling him otherwise.
Joel nervously went over and tried to wake his Nana, his hand jerking back as soon as he noticed how cold her skin was, as was his Popsâ, his cheek wet with drying tears.
He ran out, gunning it towards the other houses, screaming for his parents, his siblings, his cousins, his aunts and uncles, great aunts and great uncles, for everyone. Everyone came out, still dressed in pyjamas, getting their housecoats to go over. Joel was inconsolable, begging for someone to help his Pops and Nana. His Uncle Marcus, the family doctor, ran ahead to their house.
Their bedroom was soon filled with heartbroken sobs. Aunts Ellie and Sarah laid on the bed with their parents, his father sitting at Popsâs feet, tears flowing out of their eyes.
Nana had left first, peacefully, in her sleep, Uncle Marcus later told everyone. Pops must have woken up to his lifeless wife, and held her close, mourning her, before his own heart gave out. His body was warmer than hers when Marcus got there, the tears on his face still drying.
âHe died of a broken heart,â Aunt Sarah had tearily whispered.
No one could find reason to disagree with her.
Pops wasnât exaggerating after all. His heart really did beat for her.
**********
They buried the beloved lovebirds in a single casket, the great uncles coming out of retirement to build their brother and sister a special one to fit them both. Aunt Ellie, Aunt Sarah and his father helped prepare their parents for burial, leaving their fingers entwined. They chose the spot where the swing stood. The one Pops had built for Nana. The two would sit there for hours in each otherâs arms, looking at the view, the land it covered now part of their legacy.
Aunt Ellie played the guitar, tearfully singing the lullaby her beloved Mama used to sing for her and her siblings, and later her nieces and nephews to sleep.
The family stood in silence for a long time after the burial, remembering this couple who had devoted their lives to each other for fifty happy years, so in love with each other that they couldnât bear to part from one another, even in death.
Their love for each other was the definition of romance. Their love story was one of fairy tales and dreams. One that was all-consuming. A love that inspires love stories, poems and songs for generations to come.
And to think it all began as a marriage of convenience.
Just an arrangement.

ok ANYWAY. let me tell you all about my day⌠i couldnât blog about daily life because well. it was happening and i was there and like present and whatever which is crazy i mean who knew that living your life would naturally take time out of girlblogging. anyway so in my first class today there was a girl in there who. oh btw this is a GENDER STUDIES CLASS. CLASS FOR ANNOYING FEMINISTS. anyway this girl was like. literally pro-j*hnny d*pp. she said something very brief and almost vague but it was like very clearly like. she was just saying out loud that she supports that man in a class full of queer feminist freaks. which was insane to me like she is so bad at reading the room⌠no one like kept up that topic or tried to argue with her i guess because class was like ten minutes to being over and they were all as tired as i was. like i donât think sheâs an actively malicious person sheâs just not like. informed or whatever. she talks in this class a lot and the things she says are always so like. sorry to her. basic level stuff and i get it this is also a sociology class not ALL of us are gender studies minors or active carers about the subject. but girl you have got to understand you sound mad stupid in there sometimes like love and light hope you learn and all but. christ. anyway so i walked out of that class with my friend and once we were a safe distance away from the building i was like WAS THAT GIRL FUCKING PRO J*HNNY D*PP JUST NOW WTF. like i know the brain dead apologists for that man walk amongst us everywhere but i just didnât expect one to be in my literal gender studies class.⌠like fuckâŚ.
#as for the rest of my day. i edited a project. i talked to my friends.#oh i got to finish explaining the olivia/joshua/sabrina drama to my friend that had never heard of any of this before#i forgot to mention when i was explaining it last night that josh also CAME OUT during all of that. missed a vital piece of info#we also did some necessary shit talking of h*rry styl*s. i literally would rather die than let people assume iâm a fan of that man so i alwa#always have to preface every time i bring him up that i donât like him and i think itâs embarrassing to like him and heâs ugly.#with the company i keep itâs never gone over badly. except with my one 16 year old coworker#um and then i drove home. there was a minor traffic hiccup which i blogged about.#then i hung up some frames with my dad. ate dinner. watched my shows. <3 slayed#beth.txt#if the manager i donât vibe with is at work tomorrow iâm killing and maiming someone.

the actual funniest part of writing metalbanders in this the year of our lord 2024 is that my partner of five and a half years isâŚâŚ a musician. a punk/metal/whatever drummer specifically lmao so now iâm like ok ⌠harmonic convergenceâs music would all sound like my partnerâs deranged bands (like the ones ed plays in not just what he listens to) âď¸ delusions of grandeur âď¸ dress wan like ed for the most part (the jacket⌠the source for why i know u should never lean ur head on that spiky shoulder) âď¸ i know the exact amount of ANNOYING this type of musician is to be intimately linked with âď¸

And I will stay alive for my future self, so they can one day learn to be kind to who I was as a child. And I will teach them to honor who we used to be, so they can remember the comfort of what once was our untempered flesh and gentle soul. Me and myself are each a fresh wound and a rough scab, bearing respectively the gift of green faith and honed will.
This has been in my draft for a while because I was determined to post this only after I knew what I should write underneath it. Iâve read a lot on the concept of healing the wounded inner child since even before my c-ptsd diagnosis. However, Iâve sought as much comfort in my little self as they had in me. Looking back, I was an impressively emotionally-intuitive kid. I remember well how I used to think, the things I would write to my future self; they were wiser and gentler than I could ever hope to be as an adult. Needless to say, the little poem above is inspired by the aforementioned experience. Sure, big me is armed with a more developed pre-frontal cortex and access to invaluable resources (coping mechanisms, therapy, on and offline communities) , but I struggle to rediscover/reinvent my identity. Little me was the biggest vestige of my lost personhood. So yeah, this might be just a huge self-indulgent projection with my favorite character, but thinking that post-S3 Hunter would also be in my shoes is not completely baseless. 16yrs old Hunter is the fresh wound (a lot of things happened before his teen years, but Iâm going to interpret the events of Hollow Mind - which happened when Hunter was 16 - as the ultimate boiling point in his trauma timeline, hence the âfresh wound') and 20yrs old Hunter is the rough scab. Each version of Hunter could be dealing with a different set of trauma-induced symptoms. I think his loyalty to Belos kept him going as a child. Being doubtless was important to Hunter back then; it held his sense of self together. And maybe when he survived and was rewarded the time and space to grow into his own person and live for himself, there was this lasting emptiness. I feel this sort of emptiness even today. My only reference of what âwholenessâ felt like was when I was obedient to my family. I equated self-abandonment as the righteous norm. The symptoms I deal with today are definitely different from when I was Hunterâs age pre-time-skip. Now that Hunter is in a safe space and an adult post-time skip, he might also need to seek that strength from his younger self. Reminding himself of how far heâs come and the parts of him that he'd like to keep from his past. The parts that he knows in his bones are purely his - not instilled by Belos, not inherited from Caleb.
#the two pic look so different lol they were completed with a month in between them#if you actually read the whole thing#thank you means a lot#i hope it made some sense- i rarely put into words these sort of thoughts so im kinda all over the place#hunter toh#hunter noceda#the owl house#the owl house season 3#toh season 3#toh#toh hunter#toh s3#toh s3e1#toh s3e2#for the future#thanks to them#toh spoilers#cw: abuse#cw: trauma#hunter deamonne#toh s3ep3#watching and dreaming#the owl house spoilers#owl house#thank you dana#toh literally saved and changed my life

TAUGHT WELL - HS
summary: the kids go into protective mode after someone flirts with y/n at the beach
Novie was the first to notice. Her little eyebrows furrowed as she tugged on her oldest brother's top. At only 6 years old, she was the youngest and only girl out of the styles family, she was a replica of her mother was what Harry said the day she was born and has said every day since then.
âYes, Vivi. Whatâs up?â Theo asked, raising his eyebrow and looking ever so lovingly at his youngest sibling. His eyes were a darker shade of green and his hair dark brown, he was his father's twin. Standing a little over six foot at just 18 years old, he towered over the little girl.
âI donât like that guyâ Novie pointed, directing her brother's attention to the man standing a tad bit too close to their mother, who was currently standing in line to get some ice cream. âHeâs looking at Mama weirdlyâ she states. This gets the attention of the two other styles boys, Blake and Indi, who lift their sunglasses and look over at their siblings.
They were on holiday, somewhere in the Caribbean, enjoying the last few days of the winter break before they had to get back to England to go back to school. Harry was on his stomach, snoozing away, his back smothered in the suncream y/n put on him earlier before she decided to get the kids ice cream.
Blake scoffs as he gets up from the beach towel, giving it a minute, watching the way the guy continues to ogle their mother despite the massive rock on her ring finger and the âHarryâ tattoo on her collarbone. Blake was the hot-headed one, at 16 years old, he was slightly taller than Theo, his hair slighter longer. The perfect mix of his parents, definitely getting his dad's temper.
âIf he as much as touches mum itâs game overâ Blake states.
âI bet heâs going to ask her who we areâ Indi speaks, he was the quietest out of the four. A lot more into his books and video games, and more of an introvert. He was 12, and already wise beyond his years.
âHeâll shit it when he finds out sheâs our mumâ Blake replies, his dark eyes staring intensely at the way the guy laughs, y/n looks over and the kids give her all a wave to which she smiles widely and waves back.
âHere we go,â Theo says, chuckling as he hears the guys gasp.
âNo way youâre a mumâ the guy gasps, his hand coming to lift his sunglasses off his eyes. âTo an eighteen-year-old?! What! You look insanely goodâ
âWe had him youngâ y/n chuckles awkwardly, looking over at the kids.
They watch on as the guy points to the ice cream that was just placed in her hand, assuming he asked to pay for it. âHeâs tryna ask her outâ
âThatâs messed up, sheâs clearly marriedâ
âHer rings the size of Novie's head, canât he seeâ Blake scoffs making Theo chuckle.
âSome guys are just divs and like married womenâ Theo replies, shrugging.
âThatâs so fucked upâ
âRight? So fucked upâ Novie says making Theo sigh.
âDonât say that Nov. Blake, watch your mouthâ Theo says, before clapping his hand on the back of his brother's backs, âitâs time guysâ he states as they watch the guy's hand brush over y/ns as he hands her some tissue to clean off the melting ice cream in her hand.
Theo ducks down to Novie. âYou know what to do right, Novie Bear?â He fist bumps her.
âIâve got it, Teddy Bear. Project rescue mum is underwayâ Theo chuckles at her nickname for him. He nods at Indi to follow her and the two set off to their mother, an innocent-looking adorning their faces.
âMamaâ they hear Novie say as she wraps her hands around their mother's middle, Y/n smiles at her daughter as she hands the ice cream off to Indi who takes a lick. Y/n knows her kids like the back of her hand, she knows what theyâre doing and it makes her chuckle softly to herself, just like their father she thinks. Harry was the one that instilled the project rescue mum into them, telling them to take care of their mother whenever he wasnât around.
âYes, baby girl? Are you alright?â Y/n asks as she ruffles her hand through her daughter's locks before looking over at her son who leans over to kiss her cheek.
âCan we go get some coconuts?â She looks up at her mother, with an innocent smile.
âDo you like coconut water?â The guy asks, causing Indi to scoff. âI could go get it for you? Would you like that?â
âNo no itâs fine, truly thank youâ Y/n replies just as her two older sons join her. The two boys tower over the guy and he has to look up to see them. Theyâre big, just like their dad, looking a lot older than their actual age.
âHey mum, you nearly done?â Theo asks as Y/n is handed another ice cream from the man making them. Theo takes it off her with a smile.
âNearly, just got another two leftâ she replies.
âItâs fine, Blake and I could wait for them, why donât you go take Vivi to get her coconuts?â Theo offers and y/n nods before smiling.
âThank you, angelâ
âMake sure to get dad some as well, you know how he gets when he has to share his coconut water, heâs obsessedâ Blake sniggers as everyone catches onto what heâs trying to imply. Harry hates coconut, especially coconut water, but thatâs not important.
âJust like how heâs obsessed with you, right mama?â Novie asks, tugging on her mum's hand.
âOh yeah, dad's insane about mum, he loves her so muchâ Indi speaks up, âoh look heâs awake, wave at him guysâ The whole family waves at Harry who looks over with a smile, his hand up in the air. His hair was just growing back, so they stuck up awkwardly making him look so endearing. But as he gets up, his muscles flexing, it causes the guy to swallow before he excuses himself.
âSome men are disgusting, flirting with a married womanâ Blake canât help but say and without a doubt the guy heard him but he chose not to look back.
Harry comes up to his wife just as the last two ice creams are handed over to Theo. âHowâs my perfect family doing?â He asks, snaking his hands around his wifeâs middle before leaning in to kiss her cheek. He ruffles the boy's hair before pulling away and kissing Novie's cheek.
âOh alright, just scaring off men as usualâ Y/n laughs.
âmen that have no shameâ Theo adds.
âWho blatantly flirts with a woman whilst her whole family is thereâ Indi says and Harry rolls his eyes.
âMen who need their di-â
âOk we get it Blakeâ Harry chuckles, before leading his family back.
âI swear, theyâre just like youâ y/n smiles, as Harry tugs her closer.
âIâve taught them well, they know youâre our number one priority babe,â he says as he kisses her cheek before taking a quick bite out of Blakeâs ice cream. The family chuckles and go back to enjoying their time under the sun.

Bloodborne PSX One of the best fanworks on the web
Though the PS4 boasted and still boasts an impressive library of releases, for many (myself included) the system served to be bought for initially one purpose, to be the Bloodborne Machine. Most of the people in my life who had a PS4 during its generation either bought one exclusively to play Fromsoftwareâs Nightmare Hunting Adventure or had initially got one solely to play the game and ended up getting more games afterward. Itâs a phenomenon the game industry sees time and time again, with previous generations having swathes of fans buying entire consoles for one or two games. As far as games go though, Bloodborne is at the very least worth the price of entry. At the time, it was heralded as Fromsoftwareâs most cutting-edge and impressive game to date. A gorgeous gothic world filled with creatures ripped straight out of H.P Lovecraftâs nightmares, a haunting soundtrack showcasing beautifully composed choral scores and a combat system that incentivized aggression and speed to achieve brutal and bloody efficiency. Itâs no wonder then why Bloodborne still has such a large following behind it. Fans of Fromsoftware have hoped for a sequel or PC port year after year to largely disappointing results. But where the community shines is in its fanworks.Â
From fanart, comics, music, animations, and even fan-made video game spinoffs, the game has been shown a monumental amount of love since its debut in 2015. One of these fanworks was released back in 2022 and has since become one of the most famous pieces of fan-made content surrounding the game, this of course, being BloodbornePSX by LWMedia. An incredibly impressive feat of coding and art direction, the game serves as a âDemakeâ of Bloodborneâs first Yharnam segment, made to look like and play as if it were made on the very first PlayStation console. With some custom-made areas and an entirely unique boss to boot the perfectly paced experience is both a treat to fans who have been orbiting the game since its earliest days and new fans looking for the best and brightest fanworks to interact with.Â
The game has since gone on to be covered by a variety of news outlets all over the web, along with its creator receiving much-deserved attention for her efforts. One Lilith Walther (AKA b0tster on social media) holds the title of developer for the project. A long-time video game enthusiast and FromSoftware fan herself, sheâs had quite an impact on the community Iâm sure sheâs very proud to be a part of. Later in the article, weâve got an interview with Lilith herself about both Bloodborne PSX and her current project, âBloodborne Kartâ, but first, letâs talk a bit more in-depth about BBPSX.
youtube
(Official launch trailer for Bloodborne PSX, uploaded January 31, 2022 by LWMedia on Youtube)
Bloodborne PSX:
So, what exactly is Bloodborne PSX? To start, letâs answer what precisely a âDemakeâ is first. Demakes often have the goal of remaking the likeness of a game either stylistically, mechanically, or both, as if it was developed on retro/outdated hardware. Famous examples of Demakes include âThe Mummy Demasteredâ developed by Wayforward as a sort of tie-in to the 2017 film âThe Mummyâ in the stylings of a 16-bit run and gun adventure against armies of the undead, and âPixel Force Haloâ by Eric Ruth games which take the prolific XBOX franchise and shrinks it down to a Mega Man-esque platformer reminiscent of the NESâ 8-bit days. Demakes are intensely attractive looking, not only into the past of video games and their developments but just how creative developers can be with games that they love and appreciate. Bloodborne PSX hits as hard as a Demake can in my opinion, blending masterfully recreated graphics with perfectly clunky early PSX gameplay quirks that go above and beyond to make the game not only LOOK like it belongs on the nearly 30-year-old console but feel right at home on it as well.
(A screenshot depicting the player character âThe Hunterâ facing off against two fearsome Werewolf enemies. Screenshot sourced from the Bloodborne PSX Official itch.io page)
Gameplay:
Starting off with the masterfully recreated clunk in the gameplay, Bloodborne PSX âshows its ageâ by hearkening back to a time when being seamless just wasnât an option. Much like adventure action games of the past (and much UNLIKE its modern inspiration), youâll be cycling through your inventory delightfully more than youâd expect. Equipping keys, checking items, and even the trademark weapon transformations are all done through the wonderfully nostalgic menu and inventory screens. Taking one of the foundational parts of Bloodborneâs combat system and making it such a more encumbering mechanic is nothing short of sheer genius when it comes to ways to really make you feel like itâs 1994 again. On top of this, the Hunterâs movement itself has been made reminiscent of classic action titles. Somehow, both stiff enough to feel dated and fluid enough to make combat that same rush of bestial fun found in the original, it goes a long way towards the total immersion into that retro vibe the game sets out to give the player. Anyone who grew up with Fromsoftwareâs earlier titles like Armored Core and the Kingâs Field series will be very familiar with this unique brand of âwell-tuned clunkâ.

Graphics:
Speaking of old Fromsoftware games, though, letâs talk about the absolutely bit-crushingly beautiful graphical work on display. As Iâm sure youâve seen from the videos and screenshots included in the article, BBPSXâs art style and direction are nothing short of perfect for what it aims to be. While playing, I couldnât help but notice every little detail (or lack thereof) in the environments meant to emulate the experience of a game made on 30-year-old hardware. Low render distances, chunky textures, blocky polygonal models, just the right amount of texture warp, it all blends together to create an atmosphere that I can 100% picture being shown off on the back of a jewel CD case with a T for Teen rating slapped into the lower corner. While playing, something rather specific that called out to me was the new way enemy names and health bars were displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen while fighting. As a big fan of the Kingâs Field games, this small detail went (probably too much of) a long way toward my love of how everythingâs meant to feel older. Other games trying to match the more specific feel of Kingâs Field, like âLunacidâ created by KIRA LLC, also include this delightful little detail, a personal favorite for sure.Â

Sound design/Soundtrack:
But where would a game be without its sound and score? No need to fear, however, because Bloodborne PSX comes complete with a chunky soundscape that will make you want to check and see if your TV is set to channel 3. A haunting set of tracks played by fittingly digital-sounding MIDIs ran through filters to sound just as crackly as you remember backs up crunchy sounds of spilling blood with low-poly weaponry. Original sounds from Bloodborne have been used for an authentic sounding experience, but have also been given the CRT speaker treatment and sound like something you remember playing on Halloween 20 years ago. If you watched the launch trailer featured above then you know exactly what Iâm talking about. The Cleric Beastâs trademark screech and Gascoineâs signature howl after his beastly transformation have never sounded so beautifully dated, and Iâm here for every bit of it. Even the horrific boss themes we know and love from the original Bloodborne have been brought through this portal to the past. One of my favourite tracks, the Cleric Beast boss theme, might just sound even better when played on a 16-bit sound chip. It really cannot be understated just how much weight the sound design of the game is pulling. In my opinion, the only thing missing is that sweet sweet PSX startup sound before the game starts crackling through the speakers of a TV in the computer room.

Interview with the developer:
Before writing this article, I had the absolute pleasure and privilege of talking with Lilith Walther about some developmental notes and personal feelings about inspirations and challenges that can come with the daunting task of being a developer. Below are the nine (initially ten, but unfortunately, a bit of the interview was lost due to my recording software bugging out) questions I posed to Miss Lilith, along with her answers transcribed directly from the interview.Â
Iâd like to start this section of the article by saying Lilith was an absolute joy to talk to. During the interview, I really felt like she and I shared some common ground on some topics regarding how media can have an impact on you and what sorts of things come with video games as an art form. After some minor technical difficulties (and by that, I mean my video drivers crashed), I started off with something simple. The first question posited was: âWhat got you into video games initially?â Lilithâs response was as follows: âWhen I was a kid, the family member of a friend had a SNES lying around. I turned it on and didnât really understand. I was a guy on top of a pyramid, I walked down the pyramid, and some big ogre killed me. Later I learned that was A Link to the past.â and after a brief laugh continued, âA couple years later my parents got a Nintendo 64 with Mario64 and Ocarina of Time and that was it. Never put the controller down since then.âÂ
She then went on to describe what precisely about Nintendoâs first foray into 3D Zelda had hooked her. âIâve heard this story so many times. Itâs like youâre not even playing the game. Youâre just in the world hanging out in Kokiri forest collecting rupees to get the Deku shield, and the game expects you to! It was just, ârun around this world and explore,â and that really hooked me.â I couldnât agree more with her statement about her experience. Not just with a game as prolific as Ocarina of Time but many experiences from older console generations that could be considered âthe first of their kindâ, or at the very least some of the earliest. Lilith also described her first experience with a PlayStation console, stating: âLater on I got a PS2 which played PS1 games. I didnât end up getting a PS1 until around the PS3 era, so I guess Iâm a poser. I remember my sister bringing home Final Fantasy 9 when it was a relatively new game. If it wasnât my first PS1 game it was definitely my first Final Fantasy game. Of course I went back and played 8 and 7 afterwards.â A solid answer to a simple question.Â
The second question I asked was one starting to move toward the topic of Bloodborne PSX and its namesake/inspiration. Or at least the family of systems it was released on: âWhat PlayStation console was your favorite and why?â Lilithâs answer surprised me a bit. Not because I disagreed, quite the opposite, actually. But with such a big inspiration for her work being games from the PSX-PS2 generations, what followed was a pleasant bit of insight into one of her favourite eras of gaming, to quote: âI can give you two answers here.â To which I assured her she was more than welcome to, but she was set on having something definitive. âNo no Iâm only going to give you one answer. I can give you the correct answer that I donât want to admit, but it was the PlayStation 3. Itâs so embarrassing but I genuinely was hooked into the marketing of the whole âThe cell processor is the smartest thing in the worldâ and all that. It really seemed like the future of gaming and I was all about it. I think I owned an XBOX360 before but I did eventually get it and really enjoyed it. It took a couple years for some of the best games to come out but I really did.â A few examples she cited as being some of her most memorable experiences on the console were Uncharted 2, Journey, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and Warhawk. All games Iâve seen on several top 5 and top 10 lists throughout my life within the gaming space. A delightful show of affection for a generation personally very dear to me as well, in which she ended the segment by declaring âHell yeagâ, a bit of a catchphrase sheâs coined online.
Getting into the topic proper, my third question was one about her personal relationship with Bloodborne: âHow did Bloodborne impact/appeal to your interests?â A question that received perhaps my favourite answer of the whole interview. From her response: âOh thatâs a big one. Going to the opposite end of the poser spectrum, I was a Fromsoftware fan before it was cool. One of the games I played religiously on my PS2 was Armored Core.â A statement which made more sense than perhaps anything else said during my time with her. âThen later in the PS3 era everyone was talking about Dark Souls, this was when I was in college. I finally caved and got it and saw the Fromsoftware logo and thought âOh itâs the Armored Core people!â I played and beat it, really enjoyed my time with it. I skipped Dark Souls 2 because everyone told me to hate it, I still need to go back to that one.âÂ
Itâs something I would recommend anyone who hasnât played Dark Souls 2 to go and do. âThen Bloodborne came out and I thought âAlright this is the new one, gotta play this oneâ and I was a huge fan of all the gothic stuff in the aesthetic. And how do I explain this, I do really like Bloodborne. I like the design, and the mechanical suite of gameplay, as a video-gamey video game itâs very good.â The tone shifted here to something a bit more personal. âBut as well, I was playing it at a specific time in my life. I came out in 2019, I know Bloodborne came out in 2015 but I was obviously just playing it non-stop. It was just one of my âcoming out gamesâ, you know?â For those who maybe donât understand the statement there, âcoming outâ is a very common term used within the Queer community to describe the experience of revealing your identity to those around you. Whether it be to family, friends, or co-workers, almost every queer person has some sort of coming out story to tell. Lilith is speaking in reference to her coming out as a trans woman. She elaborated: âObviously I can only speak for myself, but I just feel like when you make a decision like that, that part of my life just ended up seared into my brain, you know? Bloodborne was there, so now itâs just a part of me. And it definitely influenced some things about me. It was there because I was working on Bloodborne PSX at the time, but it had an impact on something Iâve heard a lot of other Trans people describe.â She went on to describe the concept of âComing out a second timeâ as sort of âfinding yourself more within your identityâ and becoming more affirmed in it. She described both Bloodborne and her development on Bloodborne PSX influencing large parts of her life, a good example being how she dresses and presents. As a trans woman myself, this answer delighted me to no end. I, for one, can absolutely 100% relate to the notion of media you experience during such a radical turning point in your life sticking with you. There are plenty of games, shows, music, and books that I still hold very near and dear to me because, as Lilith stated, they were there. All the right things at the right time.
Halfway through our questions, weâve finally arrived at one pertaining specifically to the development of Bloodborne PSX: âWhat are some unique challenges youâve faced developing a game meant to look/play like something made on retro hardware?â
Lilith answers: âSo thereâs two things, two big things. One is rolling back all of the quality of life improvements weâve gotten over the years in gaming. Not automatically using keys is always my go-to example.â Something as well I mentioned in my short talk about the gameâs gloriously dated feeling gameplay above. âThat was definitely very very intentional. Because itâs not just the graphics, right? It was the design sensibilities of the 90s. Bringing that to the surface was very challenging but very fun. Another big part was, since it was one of the first 3D consoles, I wanted to recreate the hype around the fact that âITS IN 3D NOW!â So if you go into your inventory youâll see all the objects rendered in beautiful 3D while they slowly spin as you scroll through them.â This is a feature I very much miss seeing in modern video games.Â
She continued, âI think the biggest one was the weapon changes. Bloodborneâs whole thing was the weapon transformations. Like, you could seamlessly change your weapons and work them into your combo and do a bunch of crazy stuff, and I kind of said âthat needs to go immediately.â So now you have to pause and go to your weapon and press L1 to transform it, that was extremely intentional. So once I had those three big things down it all just sort of fell into place. Like the clunky UI and the janky controls. You need jank and clunk, and I think thatâs why Fromsoft games scale down so nicely, because they are jank and clunk.âÂ
A point I couldnât agree with more. Despite all the modern streamlining and improvements to gameplay, Fromsoftâs ever-growing catalog of impressive experiences still contains some of that old-school video game stiffness weâve (hopefully) come to appreciate. She went on to make a point I was very excited to share here in the article, âIt was just a lot of trying to nail the feel of the games and not just the look, right? Like Iâm not trying to recreate a screenshot; Iâm trying to recreate the feeling of playing this weird game thatâs barely holding together because the devs didnât know what they were doing.â In my humble opinion, something she did an excellent job with.Â
Fifth on the list was a question relating to her current project, Bloodborne Kart, a concept initially drawn from a popular meme shared around social media sites like Tumblr when the buzz of a Bloodborne sequel was keeping the talking spaces around Fromsoft alight: âAnything to say about the development of Bloodborne Kart or its inspiration?â
Lilith answers: âSo first off Bloodborne Kart is less trying to be a simulation of a PS1 game and more just an indie game. Itâs not trying to be a PS1 game, I just want it to be a fun kart racer first. Starting off of course is Mario Kart 64, thatâs the one I played back in the day. But I looked at other games like Crash Team Racing and Diddy Kong Racing, but also stuff like Twisted Metal of course. I always used those as a template to sort of look at for design stuff like âhow did they handle what happens to racers after player 1 crosses the finish line.â The next portion of her answer was initially a bit confusing but comes across better when you consider certain elements present in BBKâs battle mode. âAnd also Halo, like for the battle mode. I had to do a battle mode and it kind of just bubbled to the surface. Split Screen with my sister was such a big part of my childhood. Thinking about Halo multiplayer while I was making the battle mode stuff.âÂ
Her answer to the previous question began to dip into the topic of our sixth question: âAre there any unique challenges or enjoyable creative points that go into making something like Bloodborne Kart?â
As she continued from her previous answer: âOne of the biggest quirks of the battle mode I had to figure out was how to tell what team you were on at a glance, and that came back to Halo again. I started thinking about how you could tell in that game and it hit me that the arms of your suit change to the color of whatever team youâre on. It was just something I never even thought of because itâs so seamless. So that gave me the idea to change the kart colours, and thatâs the most recent example of me pulling directly from Halo. Itâs wild how a small change like that can turn your game from something unplayable to something fun.â I would agree. Tons of small details and things you donât think about go into making seamless multiplayer experiences. Some of which we take for granted nowadays. She then made a point about one of the most challenging aspects of BBKâs development, âThe most challenging thing was definitely the Kart AI. AI is just my worst skill when it comes to game development among the massive array of skills you need to make a game. Itâs really hard to find examples of people coding kart driving AI, You know? You need to make a biped walk around you can find a million tutorials online but if you need to make something drive a kart, not really. I was really on my own there. A lot of the examples out there are very simulation oriented. Like cars using suspension and whatnot, but Iâm making a kart racer. So I started simple, I put a navpoint down and if it needs to turn left, turn left, if it needs to turn right, turn right. And I just kept adding features from there.â
Moving onto our last three questions, we started to get a little more personal. Question seven being: âWhatâs your favorite part of Bloodborne Kart so far?â
Her answer was concise in what she was excited about most, quote: âThe boss fights.â Short and sweet but she did elaborate. âTranslating a big part of Bloodborne is the boss fights. So I made a short linear campaign which is basically AI battles and races strung together. Some of those stages are just boss fights which are unique to the rest of the game. When you make a video game you sit down and you make all your different modes of interactions, and then you make a multi-hour experience mixing and matching all those different modes in more complicated ways. I think the most interesting part is when that style tends to fall away and it ends up building something entirely unique to that experience.â An example she gave was the infamous âEventide Islandâ in Breath of the wild, it being a unique experience where the gameâs usual modes of interaction are stripped or limited, forcing you into a more structured experience that ends up being a majorly positive one. âThatâs what the boss fights are in Bloodborne Kart. They do multiple game mechanics like a chase that ends in a battle mode. Like Father Gascoineâs fight where he chases you, and after you blow up his kart he turns into a beast and picks up a minigun.â That sounds absolutely incredible. Itâs very easy to see why sheâd pick the boss fights as her favorite element when theyâre clearly intended to be such unique and memorable experiences.Â
Our last two questions veer away from the topics of development proper and focus more on our dear devâs personal thoughts on the matter. Question eight posits: âWhatâs your personal favorite part of being a game developer?â
After some thought, she gave a very impassioned talk about something she considers to be the best part of the experience: âWhen people who arenât game developers think about game development they think of things like âoh well you just get to play video games all day and have funâ but itâs not! Except for the 2% that is, and itâs near the end of development. When all the pieces fall into place and you start actually âmaking the game.â Game development, especially solo, youâre so zoomed in on specific parts. Because youâre not making a game youâre programming software thatâs what making a game is. You spend months working on different systems and then you actually sit down and make a level, and you hit play and it you go âOh my god, I just made a gameâ. That part is what sustains me. Itâs magical. Thatâs the best part when it comes to true appreciation of the craft aside from the reception.â An answer that I donât think I couldâve put better if I tried.Â
My last question is one that I consider to be the question when it comes to interviewing anyone who works on video games. Perhaps a bit basic, but heartfelt nonetheless: âAnything to say to anyone aspiring to be a game developer?â
Lilithâs answer: âYes. Just do it. For real. This is what I did and it always felt wrong until I looked at more established devs echoing the sentiment. You cannot plan a game before youâve started making one. The example I always bring up is the team behind Deus Ex wrote a 500 page design document for the game and almost immediately threw it out when they started development. Just start! Youâre going to have unanswered questions and I think that trips people up. Donât start with your magnum opus idea, start with something simple and achievable. I feel like a lot of people set out with the goal of making a triple-A game, and thatâs good! But it canât be your first game. Game development is creating art, just like any other form of art, and itâs like saying âmy first drawing is going to be the Mona Lisaâ and it just doesnât work like that. You need practice and development, and itâs difficult to see that because games take so long and so much, so itâs definitely seen as a bigger undertaking. But itâs still art. Youâre still making mistakes and learning from them for your first project. Your next game will be better. View your career as a game developer as a series of games you want to make, and not just one big game.â A perfect response to an otherwise unassuming question.Â
Lilithâs passion and love for video games were reflected very clearly in every response she gave during my time with her. Her dedication and appreciation for the art form can be seen in every pixel of Bloodborne PSX, as well as the development logs and test builds of Bloodborne Kart. I really do think that the way she answered my final question speaks volumes to the type of attitude someone should take up when endeavoring to make art as intensive as a video game. Whether itâs fanwork of a game thatâs important to you or an entirely new concept, do it.Â

Hello, Neil Gaiman. I am writing this letter of gratitude because I am in despair, but I am obliged to you. I am Russian, I live in a small town in the south of Russia, in the Caucasus. a month ago I turned 16, so now I am fully responsible for all my actions. I'm bisexual, which is now illegal. you understand what I mean, but Iâm simply scared to write about such things. absolutely no one knows about this, and I have to hide every day. this is an unbearable burden, but I must say thank you. because your projects are what gives me life. you have no idea how much pleasure it was for me, at eight years old, to fearfully admire Mr. Bobinsky. when, at 14, I finally saved up money for the Russian edition of Good Omens, which I had to order via the Internet not directly, but through my friends, I was quietly delighted. it is worth paying tribute to: this edition is really good and very warms the soul, its design may not be filled with elegance with a golden border, but it is very homely, cozy and imbued with love for the work, this can be felt, even if the translation is not the best. and on the very first pages I felt something that I had never experienced, having problems with the nervous system and anxiety: I felt protected and happy. I felt complete. each line was a sip of life-giving water for me. let me be so bold but this book is perfect for me and it's hard to believe it wasn't written for me personally haha. like two pieces of a puzzle. I hold the book of Good Omens, and I cry almost every time because it feels good just to hold it in my hands. you shouldnât put this next to fanaticism, itâs just personal happiness. sometimes I felt so safe with this book that I hugged it as I fell asleep. then I saved up to the translation of script book for the first season, and I must say that I am confused, because there are no deleted scenes in it with Crowley shopping or the opening of Aziraphale's bookstore and others, and this was not clear to me. and a month ago, on October 30, my cousin, who is like my own sister, gave me the original Good Omens for my birthday. can you imagine? in all of Russia she was able to find only one person who carried out such foreign orders (please forgive me, I have little understanding of this). so, in some ineffable way, a copy was delivered to me via America from Corgi Books, I think, 2014. soft cover and thin pages, of course, but I'm so happy. and Iâm also grateful to myself, because Iâve been learning English since I was seven, and therefore Iâm glad that I can read the original. oh, you should have seen with what rapture I waited for the release of the second season at three in the morning! and with what delight I watched it in English without subtitles, understanding what was happening. this is happiness. what I want to say is that you bringâŚindescribable happiness to my life. you give me strength, and I donât give up. I cry every time I allow myself to dream that I am escaping from here. that I can meet you and say thank you in person with my stupid accent, not so much because of my native language, but because of the braces, hahaha. but I never stop dreaming about it, although even this is hard. thank you for everything. I wish only peace and love. with devotion, love and gratitude, A.
I'm sending thoughts of love and concern. Stay safe.

When they were little, and they started wearing masks because Mikey wanted to be like the heroes he watched in Saturday morning cartoons, Donnie asked Splinter to cut the tails of his short so they wouldnât get in his way.
Leo thought that was a crazy decision, because if the tails were short they wouldnât match Raphâs.Â
âSo?â Donnie said, unscrewing the bottom panel of the oscillating fan he stole from Splinterâs room.Â
âSo what?â Leo said.Â
âSo what if I donât match Raph? I donât have to,â Donnie pointed out, a seven year old at his most reasonable.
His twin blinked, then his striped cheeks puffed out, brow furrowing, fully not understanding the question. He wanted to do everything Raphie did, but denied it when anyone told him so.Â
This certain proof of that behavior made Donnie smile, quiet and indulgent the way he only ever was for his other half, but only when it was just the two of them.Â
Leo whined and kicked his feet but Donnie wouldnât tell him what was funny.Â
Those long blue mask tails are sodden and heavy as Donnie shifts them out of the way, leaving a sickening trail of red where they drag against Leoâs neck and shoulder.Â
Theyâre pinned down, whatâs left of the tunnel groaning and shifting around them, at least three Technodromes filling the sky outside. Donnie can feel the hum of impending doom in his teeth.Â
âHush, Nardo,â Donnie whispers, hand clamped over Leoâs mouth hard, even though it cuts him to have to do this. âYou canât scream, mellizo. Hush.â
His twin writhes, digging at Donnieâs grip with desperate fingers. His chest is heaving, eyes wild with pain. The rosy glow of Raphâs ninpo is all they have to see by as the projection hovers above them in case of another collapse. In the dim light, Donnie can almost pretend itâs mud heâs kneeling in, warm and slick and pooling at an alarming rate from the slab of concrete that Leoâs right arm has been crushed under. Â
The safe zone has been compromised. Itâs devastating, but not at all surprising. Two of their scouts didnât report in when they should have, baseline humans who didnât have a hope of resisting the Krangâs method of interrogation, so it was only a matter of time before the enemy came knocking.Â
April, Mikey and Cass have been evacuating their people and transporting supplies in and out of sunny orange portals all morning while Draxum, Hob and Usagi guarded their every move with eagle-eyed vigilance.Â
Donnie, Raph and Leo were holding the Krang at bay for every extra second that they could, but they stayed out there a second too long.Â
Now Leo is bleeding and the Krang hounds are prowling, their horrible faces scraping the ground as they sniff out that rich source of life, and Donnieâs mind is blank with panic. Theyâre trapped, and if he lets go then Leo will scream and bring death down on them, and if he doesnât then death will come anyway, with teeth and venom.
âShhh, Lilo,â Donnie tries to soothe, imagining Leoâs sweet, bright âshhh yourself, Dodo!â in place of the uncomprehending whine he gets in response. âGod, Iâm so sorry. Itâll be over soon, I promise.â
Maybe we should pray, he thinks wildly. Not to god, because that would be a spectacular waste of breath, but to one of the people who left the party early and might be willing to toss a miracle or two in their direction. Papa, or Gram-gram, or Aprilâs mom.Â
The red projection surrounding them begins to shrink. Slowly, making sure the rocks above and around them wonât shift, until the ninpo is just a warm glow beneath Raphâs skin. Donnie feels a rush of relief and anticipationâRaph has a plan, Raph will tell him what to do.Â
Raph puts one arm around Donnieâs shoulders and cups Leoâs face with his other hand, stroking his cheek with the pad of his thumb. Blood smears beneath his fingers. His expression is hard to read in the dark underground.Â
âYouâll be alright, big man,â Raph murmurs, all conviction, as if he can make it true out of sheer love. If anyone could, it would be him. Then he says, âDonnie, can you cut him out?â
The question makes his stomach lurch with nausea, bitter and acidic, but itâs a question that he can answer. After fighting in a three-turtle team for the better part of two hours, Donnieâs ninpo feels like coffee dregs left in the bottom of an empty pot. He has enough strength left that he could summon a tool for an emergency amputation, but only that.Â
âNot quickly,â he says pointedly, âor quietly.â
Raph nods. He just sits there for a minute, holding them. They donât have a minute and Raphie knows that but heâs just holding them. Donnieâs heart begins to race in a brand-new direction, some frightened thing in his very center sitting up and taking notice.Â
Donatello has always been an incredible number of things, not all of them good or noble or worth bragging about, but above all else, at the end of each and every day, he was Raphaelâs little brother.Â
Donnie didnât imitate him when they were kidsâdidnât wear his mask tails long or find reasons to follow him aroundâbut he was every firm hug Donnie needed to keep his skin from itching when life got too loud. He was an attentive, listening audience when Donnie had to talk about the things pingponging around in his mind without being interrupted or heâd scream. He was the large hands that held Donnieâs, the snaggle-toothed face that smiled in encouragement, when Donnie learned to walk.Â
Donnie knew him fundamentally. Intrinsically. A textbook he never had to study, knowledge that grew up with him from the first moment he opened his eyes to the big, bright world. Thatâs how he knew what was about to happen the second before it did.Â
âNo,â Donnie says hoarsely. âPlease donât.âÂ
âRaphieâs gotcha,â Raph says warmly, the last steadfast and solid and remarkably kind thing left in the apocalypse.
He reaches down and presses the panic button on Donnieâs gauntlet. The alert activates with a bright pinging sound effect, echoing twice in their little disaster-made cavern as itâs received by Leo and Raphâs comms, and the Krang hounds nearby whine and bark in excitement. Their claws churn up earth and rock as they start to run.
Raph spares a second to press a kiss against Donnieâs temple, and another to Leoâs forehead, and then heâs gone. The light goes with him. Donnie shakes like a leaf, unreasonably cold, unable to think.Â
Leo is half out of his mind by now, sobbing and jerking at his trapped limb, but all his agony is soundly drowned out by the brutal battle Raphael is leading far away from them.Â
âHush,â Donnie whispers, eyes stinging so badly he can hardly keep them open, tears dripping endlessly down his face. âItâll be over soon.â

Heyy I love your Kimi fics so I decided to send you in a request. I wanted something simples of their lifeâs as teenagers with very different livings yk. Maybe compilation of different moments of them together such as: she is on school brake so goes to a race with him, he keeps her secret of course but as just an excuse to pass more time together. Or maybe a glimpse of their nightly routine when they get to be together, like ordering food because any of them trusts the other with the stove and then getting ready to bed and just cuddle. Or also like they want to pass time together but she has a test (they probably study in the same school but Kimi just doesnât care anymore) and he is simply laid in her bed reviewing his data from racing while she is in her desk studying. I think you understood the idea, just some cute fluff of two teens in love. Use your amazing creativity as much as you want, Iâve read a lot of your fanfics and I trust you Iâll make justice to a cute fluff. I hope you enjoy my idea.

MASTERLIST // HITLIST
~~(^Pinterest)
Your relationship started back when neither of you knew what love was. Back when you were naive 16-year-olds, you and Kimi connected because you were from the same area. Back then, Bologna, Italy was not the biggest area, and you two clung together like magnets. It became a running joke when he came back to racing after a midseason break, glued to his phone, that he found someone.Â
That someone was you.
As your relationship progressed, you tried to be at as many races as possible, but when he first made the jump from FRECA to Formula 2, then Formula 1 at age 18, it wasnât that easy. You were just starting in university, and it was already difficult to attend the 14 race weekends. Never mind the 25 they were making F1 drivers do. Still, you tried your best, and Kimi was always supportive of your ambitions.
He also tried his best to keep you hidden, Sure, he talked about you here and there, but he never named you and never posted you. He wanted you to have the privacy to do your school work in peace without being bombarded by fans. You two decided you would probably announce your relationship when you finished your degree. If you decided to continue higher after that, youâd either do it online or suffer with the newfound attention. Granted, your accounts were private, but you still knew the fans would spam you somehow.
One of your favorite things to do is hide away in Kimiâs driverâs room. It was a common occurrence that you would be studying while Kimi was preparing for a race. More often than not, you would be sat on the couch studying or working on assignments while Kimi is either reviewing data or stretching and getting ready for a session. On the rare chance Kimi had nothing to do, he would ask you a million and one questions about your work.
âWhatâs this essay about?â âThat looks difficult.â âDidnât you just finish a project for that class?â âThat seems a bit much for a basic class.â Those were some of the things he would say whenever he looked over your shoulder as you skimmed anything on your computer. His interest always gave you new motivation to keep going.
Another favorite for you was the nights between races. The nights when neither of you had anything to do other than be with each other. Sometimes you would force Kimi to do face masks with you (skin care is essential!), sometimes you two would try to cook, sometimes you would just cuddle, and in the event you do all three, all hell breaks loose.Â
âStop moving so much,â You hissed annoyed that this boy could not sit still for the life of him and let you put the mask on. You had already struggled enough trying to get all of his curly hair back, but now he was flinching away every time you tried to put the product on his skin. âI swear, you have ADHD.â
âItâs cold, and I donât like it. This one feels weird,â He groaned but stopped moving and let you do your thing. âWhy do we need to do the slimy one? Can we just use the clay one again?â
âYour skin needs hydration, not help with the texture,â You explained as you laid the mask across his features. âYour face is inflamed and the clay mask will just make it worse. This one would actually benefit you.â
âI better get cuddles after this,â He mumbled as you finished up by washing your hands. Your mask had already been applied.
âAfter we make dinner, you can get all the cuddles you want,â You compromised, thinking dinner would not take too long to make. It was a new pasta recipe you got from Kimiâs nutritionist, and Kimi is Italian. What could go wrong? Those were your famous last words.
âStop smacking the dough! The flour isnât mixed right!â You shouted, but it was no use. Kimi walked straight up behind you and smacked the dough pile again just after you added more flour. This caused a cloud of flour to hit the two of you directly in the face. âANDREA!â
âOh no,â He muttered after he blew out the flour and went to wipe his face, but his hands got covered in the face mask he still had on. âOh no.â
ââOh noâ,â You mocked as you gaped at him. âWhat did I just say?â
âStop smacking it,â He tried to sound serious and apologetic, but the smile on his face told that he was amused by the situation.Â
âAnd what did you do?â
âSmacked it.â
âWhat did you learn?â
âStop smacking pasta when youâre mixing it.â
That was it. You both couldn't help it as you both started laughing.
You made Kimi clean up the kitchen after you both washed off the floury face masks. You told him that since he got you into that mess, he could clean it up. While he did that, you called and ordered your favorite takeaway. You did not trust Kimi in the kitchen anymore. You went to pick it up, and when you came back, Kimi had cleaned the kitchen and set up a blanket fort in the common room. You chuckled to yourself as you walked up to the opening of the fort, but Kimi blocked you from entering.Â
âWhatâs the password?â Kimi smirked as he only exposed his head and would not let you see inside.
âIs it Italian or English?â You countered.
âTo make it easy, Iâll accept English,â Kimi teased as he watched you think.
âHmm, the password has to be, âI bought dinner, and if you want to eat tonight, you better let me in.â Is that right?â
âActually, it was âI love youâ but Iâll take it.â
The inside of the fort was more than you expected. Kimi had moved the TV down, so it fit inside. There were pillows and blankets everywhere, and your favorite drinks were in an ice bucket to the side. You were impressed he was able to get this all done while you were picking up the food.
âHow did you get this done? I wasnât gone that long,â You asked skeptically as you sat down and looked around.
âYou walk slow,â Kimi joked, but immediately after, the door slammed closed and someone texted Kimi.
âI better get credit for helping,â It read from Ollie. You looked over at Kimi who was smiling sheepishly at you.
âWant to comment on that?â
âNo, not really.â
Thatâs just a little glimpse into the life of you and Kimi.

Hatsune Miku is an interesting phenomenon to me because she basically just started out as the mascot for a specific voice synthesizer program and I remember when I was in high school like ten years ago she was already pretty big as a like cyber celebrity and I thought she was just a passing fancy if Iâm being honest. Relatively new technology of semi-convincing electronic singing voices, 16 year old anime girl as a mascot. Sure, thatâs cute.
But over a decade later now I look at her and sheâs still sort of nothing but at the same time sheâs a lot. Her voice program been used to make over a hundred thousand songs but the mascot itself has kind of developed an entirely different fandom by itself.
And why not? Sheâs marketable. Shes got that big blue hair and big sleeves. Sheâs a computer program so you can project any personality you want onto her. Sheâs like Mickey Mouse at this point but with even less substance. Not that I think the nothingness there is a bad thing. Itâs kind of a strength, turns out.
Something that marketable and that blank can have everything from best selling albums to cute stuffed dolls to to video games to learn Japanese with miku books and all of that has been made.
And this is a mascot for a voice synthesizer program, remember. People show up in person to see a 3d model hologram of this mascot dance onstage. And this was happening when I was in high school. This was old news even back then. But the fact that itâs still happening? Iâve never seen anything like it before or since. Sheâs a software mascot. Clippy never got this kind of attention.

Tonyâs Childhood. Part 1: Identifying facts
In the MCU, Tony sometimes acts like a kid. There is a reason behind every behavior, so I wondered what it was like for him when he was a real kid.
So, the questions of the day: what do we know about Tony's childhood? Did he have one? And, most importantly, how did it affect him?
Letâs first list what we know from the movies:
At age 4 Tony built his first circuit board (IM1)
At age 6 built his first engine (IM1)
Was sent to a boarding school by Howard (IM2)
Cracked the Pentagonâs firewall in high school on a dare (AoU)
Had a nanny until the age of 14 (IM3)
Went to college at 14 (IM1)
Built Dum-E and U when he was there (IM1)
At 17 graduated summa cum laude from MIT (IM1)
Continued his education until his parentsâ death (CW)
Tonyâs genius gave him two things: the brain and the pain. And by the pain, I mean that instead of interacting and bonding with his parents, enjoying life, playing, having fun, making friends, taking care of pets, and all the other things children do to gradually prepare for adulthood and grow up "healthy", he got this list of achievements. That doesnât make a person normal.
Parents
We know his relationship with Howard was complicated. Howard loved him in his own way. He had too many things to do to be a good father: SI, S.H.I.E.L.D., scientific projects, trying to build a better future with clean energy, etc. All good, except when you want your child to love you back. Especially if in the tiny amount of time you spend with him, you donât show him any signs of affection.
What do we know about Maria? Her name, what she looked like, that she played the piano, and died at Winter Soldierâs hand on Dec 16, 1991. Thatâs it. She didnât spend much time with Tony either. Remember, he even had a nanny, instead of a mother. Tony's words about her showed that he loved her, but he didn't talk much about her. Because she wasnât present in his life enough. Why? BecauseâŚ
School
Howard sent Tony to a boarding school.
Hereâs in the S.H.I.E.L.D.s file we have this information about the school:
âPhillips Academy, Andover, MA 1977-1984â
This means he was there from age 7 to 14. Howard sent him to a boarding school when he was SEVEN.
Phillips Academy Andover serves grades 9-12 only (it is a college preparatory school). Thus, either this is a mistake by the creators of the film/file, or Tony, due to his genius, became an exception. Since the early age he was already at school was also mentioned in IM2 tie-in comics, and in Earth-616 that was also 7, we can mark 1977-1984 as valid.
Think about it again: Tony was sent to boarding school in another state when he was 7 years old. He spent another 7 years there, alone, among high school-aged teenagers. No parents around, no peers.
For example, even Hogwarts accepts 11-year-old children, and they live with their peers. Now imagine Harry Potter, at the age of 7, is thrown into a dorm with 7th-year students and locked there. Doesnât make a person normal either, does it?
Nannies and Jarvis
Since Tony was at the boarding school, there are two options for how he could have a nanny (mentioned in IM3) and spend time with Edwin Jarvis:
1) He was at the boarding school with a nanny. There is almost no possibility that the nanny was Edwin Jarvis because Jarvis was Howardâs butler and had other responsibilities.
2) He had a nanny at home in the summer and during short school breaks. In this case, his parents couldnât even give him this little of their precious time.
In any case, he could only see Jarvis at home, a few months a year at most.
Note: There is a date error in IM3, stating Tony was 14 in 1983. This is clearly an error and we can omit this detail.
Bullying
Remember this dialog between Tony and Harley in IM3?
0:45:15 â Harley asks him how he knew he was being bullied at school. Tony doesn't answer. He gives him a non-lethal flash thing to "discourage bullying."
We see that Tony knew exactly what was going on with Harley at school. Because thatâs exactly what happened to him there. Harley reminded him of himself. Brilliant kid with no friends and practically no parents. He was bullied by 9th-12th graders.
If he had a nanny with him at the school, that probably made things even worse. He would be bullied because he has a nanny, and despite he has one to look after him.
In Part 2 we will discuss how all this affected him. Stay tuned.

(JUST LIKE) STARTING OVER WAS DEFINITELY FOR PAUL â a compilation
A meaningful wordplay As you know, John attached great importance to the lyrics of his songs. He liked to smuggle in word games and hidden meanings. Let's look at a fragment of the lyrics of "(Just Like) Starting Over". It's time to spread our wings and fly Wings was Paul's band in the 1970s.
Don't let another day go by
"Another Day" is a song by Paul and Linda that was released as the A-side of a non-album single in February 1971. It was Paul's debut single, following the Beatles break-up in 1970. (Sidenote: giving credits to both himself and Linda, Paul broke up the Lennon-McCartney partnership, angering Allen Klein).
my love
"My Love" is a 1973 song by Wings. The single was viewed as Wings' first significant success.
2. The demos
In the first demo, John uses the word "walrus":
Everyday we used to make it love so why canât we be making love â itâs easy. The time has come, the walrus said, for you and me to stay in bed again, itâll be just like starting over
The walrus is a famous motif from Beatles songs. In the song "I Am The Walrus" (1967) John declares that he is the titular walrus, a year later in "Glass Onion" he stated: âAnd hereâs another clue to you all â the walrus was Paulâ. In "God" (1970) John sings: "I was the walrus." In an interview from 1969 or 1970, George jokes: âAnd if you are listening, I am the walrus tooâ. Regardless of which Beatles was the walrus, John is for sure giving us an interesting clue here.
As for âin bedâ:
Here's another fascinating demo... This requires no comment. It's just that John suddenly referred to "Why Don't We Do it In the Road", a song by Paul from the Beatles era.
EDIT:
The whole fragment is:
Just take your clothes off honey, and stick your nose in money.. why donât we⌠do it in the road?! (Laughs) A little hotel where we used to screw A little place down in Montauk Just you, me, the cook and the servants too
As @i-am-the-oyster pointed out (the screen is theirs) - it's a 17 minute drive from Paul's house in the Hamptons to Montauk Motel.
3. John explaining who the song is for
âIâm not aiming, I am not aiming at 16 year olds. If they can dig it, please dig it. But when I was singing and writing this and working with her, I was visualizing all the people of my age group from the 60s. Being in their 30s and 40s now, just like me, and having wives and children and having gone through everything together, I am singing to them! I hope the young kids like it as well, but Iâm really talking to the people that grew up with me and saying: âHere I am now, how are you? Howâs your relationship going? Did you get through it all? Wasnât the 70s a drag? You know, here we are, letâs try and make the 80s good, you know, because itâs still up to us to make what we can of it. Itâs not out of our controlâ. I still believe in love, peace. I still believe in positive thinking when I can do it. Iâm not always positive but when I am, I try and project itâ.
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqxPx2Tvf6A
Letâs point out that the song which convinced John to come out of retirement was âComing upâ by Paul. You want a love to last forever One that will never fade away I want to help you with your problem Stick around, I say
(âŚ)
You want some peace and understanding So everybody can be free I know that we can get together We can make it, stick with me
BONUS (this is not evidence or premise, but maybe Paul understood that the song was addressed to him): Paul's reaction to the song after John's death.
ââŚTime passed. Paul locked the door of his home studio and played (Just Like) Starting Over, the first single from Double Fantasy. Top volume. For daysâ.
- Christopher Sandford, âMcCartneyâ
EDIT:
(it's also @i-am-the-oyster's reveal): One Sweet Dream podcast did an interview where May Pang agreed with the host (JL)SO was for Paul and emphasised that it wasn't about Yoko -- it's a patrons-only episode so I can't link it, but it's April 2023, around the 1h29 mark).
I would take it with a grain of salt, though, because May (for valid reasons) dislikes Yoko.
As @paul-mccartney-official noticed, the stripped down mix of this song begins with:
When they were teenagers, John and Paul identified with their musical idols: John was Buddy Holly and Paul was Little Richard or Elvis.
This is Lennon talking about his and McCartney's meeting at Village Woolton fete:
It is possible that John refers to his youthful years in this dedication. However, there is also an option that he mentioned his former idols, because "(Just like) starting over" musically refers to the 1950s. It depends on you what you believe in.

Statement of : Gordon Martinez Freeman, 30 year old MIT graduate,Regarding a peculiar video game heâd found.
Recorded direct from subject, May 16, 200-
Statement begins.
Pt 1 > here
ABOUT đ
Hello! I am the author of this AU, you can find my main at @inkzectz , for more meta questions about this AU, or for general comments about it, please go there.
What is the AU about?
LA : AI is a crossover AU of sorts, in the simplest way put, itâs TMA but with HLVRAI characters, TMA stuff happens but altered to fit the general HLVRAI narrative, and with my own changes, headcanons, etc. added
I will be updating/editing this post as I progress.
Will it have spoilers?
Disclaimer!!
The AU will have a lot of the original themes of hlvrai and more so TMA, more so, horror themes, this will include gore, body horror, worms, decomposition, cult themes, psychological horror, arachnophobia, flashing imagery, etc.
(Will update as I go on)
I also feel it is important to mention this is the first time I have ever made a ask blog/ web comic/ published a story online, I will make mistakes, please bare with me as I am trying to figure things out.
English is not my first language, I do my best to grammar check and write well, but at the end of the day I will also be making mistakes.
Please be patient with me.
This au is a passion project of mine that I am doing on my free time because I want to, it is important to remember as a reader, I do not owe you anything.
It is best if youâve seen it but as of writing it right now (early ep 4) there arenât any spoilers. Once I am a little further ahead then you may want to listen to it.
Yes, not a lot, but vague/mild spoilers about how the world works, plot points, and character.
Again the spoilers will be vague and mild at worst, as it progresses I would recommend listening to tma, but itâs sort of like how while half life knowledge is helpful in hlvrai it isnât exactly necessary to enjoy hlvrai bc itâs different enough from it to not really matter (?) I hope that makes sense.
Asks rules
- No telling [ player ] exactly what happens ex : âomg [ player ] when you werenât looking [ npc ] said this very important thing that is supposed to be kept secret for lore reasonsâ
- Please avoid asks like âtell this character theyâre prettyâ while I appreciate the compliment, I am trying to write a story and want to keep things as on topic as possible. Instead tell me on my main if you like the art, Iâll probably reply with a doodle or something, just not on here.
- Less so of a rule but more so of a general statement, I will be avoiding asks that either are too close to what happens or if answering would mean progressing the story too quickly, thereâs a lot I want to happen and I want time to do it all.
- Another one thatâs less of a rule and more of a general thing, if I donât like what you said I wonât be answering.
- I also sometimes just donât know how to answer some things.
- Please be respectful of the ships I choose to include and don't force your own, ship wars and such will not be tolerated.

> Lives in Seattle, MIT graduate, left Black Mesa, works as a librarian IRL but also makes money via streaming video games occasionally, in real time it is 2018.
> Believes in the paranormal out of fear but tries to rationalize out of denial, he will never admit something is supernatural and will jump through hoops to rationalize even if deep down he does believe.
> Has a son named Joshua Medrano Freeman, who is 6 years old, Gordon and his old partner met in college but split up before Joshua was born, they remain civil but are nothing more to each other than Joshuaâs other parent.
> Gordon rents an apartment with 3 rooms, his own room, Joshuaâs room, and a third that used to be a guest room but he has so little visitors heâs just chosen to revamp it into a gaming room.
> Gordon works primarily in a library for now as heâs looking for a better job.
> Gordon often wears hoodies, sweaters, t-shirts, crew necks, and any general outfit one would wear at home, long curly hair that is beginning to grey due to stress, unkempt goatee, and almost always wears green tinted glasses [ he doesnât need glasses he just thinks theyâre cool ]

> Thomas âTommyâ Coolatta, primary researcher, and technical head of the institute.
39 y.o . 6â7 . 190lb . Chinese/filipino . Male [ he/him ] . ???
[ NPC ]
> His father owns the Lambda institute and he grew up in it, he officially started working in the archives when he was 24, and of all the employees in the entire institute he has worked there the longest.
> No one knows who his father really is, Tommy being the only one whoâs ever actually seen / spoken to him, his father is the real head of the institute but gives most his orders through Tommy, so Tommy is also technically the head as well.
> Not much is actually known about him, besides his father he doesnât appear to have any other family, nor does he ever speak of his personal life much.
> Tommy primarily works as an archival assistant, specifically in research, he is the one who will verify details regarding statements or do further investigations into aspects of the statements.
> Tommy is quite the colorful character, often wearing colorful clothing and accessories, he seems to think doing so brings some cheer into an otherwise boring environment, he often wears patterned polo shirts, cheap company bracelets, pins, lanyards, pant chains, but is never without his signature multicolor propeller hat.
