I started reading the older Shazam comics and my favourite part so far is that the writers literally just went “he can transform wherever, whenever and no one will know it’s him because it’s so sudden.”
The small child you were talking to was suddenly struck by lightning and now a tall muscular hero is in his place? Sure that’s normal and not concerning at all! The man gets hit by lightning and now the child is back, safe and sound? Well of course, why wouldn’t he be when their hero was just there to save them!
Billy is so casual about transforming in front of others and will do it multiple times in a single interaction and the world is none the wiser.
Imagine he tries to reveal his identity to the Justice League by taking them out to an empty field somewhere. There’s no one around for miles and the entire field is flat and empty so nothing can get destroyed by the lightning. They all gather around him, he says the magic word and…
“Where’d he go?”
The entire Justice League is stumped about where Captain Marvel went. Barry zips around the area a few times but can’t find him. Superman uses his X-ray vision to see if he’s underground somehow. Batman, worlds greatest detective, looks up to see if he flew away.
Billy just stands there. No one even looks at him because of course there’s a kid here, why wouldn’t there be?
I love it so much.

Don't You Just LOVE art.
Art through the passage of time, that passes hands over the decades from one generation to the next!
I couldn't help but expand more on something I mentioned in the Captain Marvel Community.
Look at meh boi Tawky Tawny. You can tell what artists are influenced by today's furry art, specifically XD. Like, it's really good art!
This is amazing design. But comparing the cartoony style that is reminiscent of children's books/cartoons versus this iteration you can see the influences.
Let the Tawny Demonstration Begin!
Above is tawky from Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil. He is... A talking tiger and drawn as such. His body and proportions are rounded, with no real anthropomorphic qualities (visually) and extra details really only drawn when he is being a "threatening" tiger. Even taking into account the artstyle, he is almost always slightly simpler and more rounded than his surroundings which actually makes him stand out MORE in a subconscious way as something *fantastical*
Above is Tawky in Power of Shazam! Again, he is given soft rounded proportions, very enlarged and rounded hands, and though it might not seem like it immediately since he does feel rooted in the scene, he has LESS details than Mary. So in this instance, we are given an anthropomorphic animal, much like some cartoon depictions of animals especially popular at this time. The lack of specific details and, though anthropomorphic, still heavily animilastic but friendly proportions (rounded out to hide even more ambiguous details about the unknown anatomy of this tiger, rounded features also give a friendlier feeling, like the squished round face of a teddy bear 🧸 instead of accurate tiger facial structures).
All of this compared with the modern 2023-present version of Tawky Tawny, who is HIGHLY anthropomorphic, detailed in his clothes, texture, shading, and anatomy (which veers strongly towards the side of the spectrum of human-like exaggerated musculatory system) with a Tiger head on top (again, detailed and far more accurate depiction of a tiger head than his earlier iterations) the man now has opposable thumbs!!
Power of Shazam and the current run of Shazam!, they are BOTH anthro tigers wearing a green suit and standing around on two feet, but have vastly different vibes.
It's about ✨️ presentation ✨️ and influence. What influenced the Power of Shazam design? Most likely cartoons and plushies.
Now... what could have possibly influenced the 2023 Shazam! depiction 👀
Tawny art and depiction through the ages, everybody!

I have to confess... I really like white haired Billy who is trapped in his hero body. I know it's a bit of a sin, but I'm really week for white haired characters 😂
Also, the little white bits of hair that start peaking before he turns fully into the Wizard's replacement are 😗 👌🏼 What a baby, I love him.
And I'll take this moment now that I'm doing some Captain Marvel sketches to talk a little bit about Trials of Shazam (that's where the images are from btw). I haven't finished it but I really liked the first issue. Like, the very, very, very beginning Billy is with a bunch of kidnaped children, ya know, pretending to be helpless and all, and he has this ireful look. I dunno I just really liked that. Cause this is pre-new 52, so this Billy ain't no bratty punk, this is not his regular personality. This is some righteous anger about what's being done to these kids... And I really love that, it just gives me life.
Also the art is very compelling to me, very, not watercolor per-say, but similar. Painterly. (That image abobe is not a super good example of it tho.)
Anyway, I'm done 😅I just wanted to talk a little bit about the comic. If I didn't have so many wips I'd write a one-shot inspired by that scene from Trials of Shazam.

I like to think that regardless of whether Batman knows Cap is a kid or not, he notices he has a really hard time sitting still during meetings and is fully prepared to deal with that

Fanfic ideas
Instead of Captain Marvel getting discovered as a child he gaslights everyone into thinking he is actually just magic that gained sentience
That way he can explain away anything
He has no home other then the rook of eternity well he is only a magic alter how should he even get one
No legal documents because he doesn’t actually exist as a human
No money because he is magic and can’t get a job
The league started paying him because he can’t get a job yet
If he doesn’t know something that adults should know about he can always say he is magic and not been sentient for long enough to discover that
Taxes - how should an alter made of the combined power of gods know about taxes
The legal system- again how could he even know that
And more
The league just assume that the reason for him not to know what a cake tasts like is that their coworker has never tried to in his whole existence
And Billy saying that they inspired him to be a hero would be taken differently because how cool must they have been that magic gained sentience just to be like them (they would definitely take it as a compliment and not feel sick about it)
Then during Young Justice when all adults disappeared he could just say that he has taken the appearance of a kid (because if The Witch boy can stay despite him being over thousands of years old then a magic spirt thing can just take the appearance of a kid )
And then start meeting the league as Billy claiming he likes that appearance more and still continue as Captain Marvel
And make friends with young justice and even out his name claiming that he likes it and wants to be called it
Like when the league found out he had such great potential to gaslight them because what do they even know about magic alters composed of several different gods magic
Them helping him be a person because he seems to struggle with it not realizing that they are essentially parenting a kid and not a magic god creature
Has so many opportunities to explore

The idea for this comic is from here and by @billymarvel !!!
and here’s a bonus!
I love the trope where when characters have a double life they know others who are apart of both lives but neither of them are aware of this. cough cough billy and clark. I mean they are both reporters/involved with newspapers so i’m surprised they don’t have there secret identities interact more

You know when you surprise your cat while they’re cleaning themselves and they forget to put their tongue away? And you know how Tawky Tawny is just a big ol kitty?
Even the most sophisticated of individuals can be caught off guard!
Poor guy is embarrassed! Billy is going to brag about this to the entire justice league about this for weeks.
The video turned out a little blurry but it’ll take me a while to figure out how to fix that and I already spent five and a half hours on this thing so I don’t wannaaaaa. If the people (a single person) demand it then I shall, but until then you get what you get lol.

Captain Marvel/Billy Batson Headcanon #1, #2, and #3:
I have some Headcanons that are stuck in my head.
So I've been thinking about myths and how Superheroes are the modern myths. Like Greek Mythology. It's just that Superheroes are the new age "Gods" that people worship.
These are stories about heroic deeds and unparalleled evil. So then I start thinking about Captain Marvel and he has a lot of Gods' powers and he's their champion. And it got me thinking about a solo cap story about a modern kid or a kid from the future that becomes the champion just in a universe where our Superheroes (from DC) aren't real people and instead comic book characters, really old Comic book heroes that have been turned into myths. Maybe in this universe Superhero comics stopped being created. And so Billy Batson in this world is chosen to be the champion and the gods he gets aren't soloman, Hercules, Achilles, Zeus, Atlas, and Mercury but instead, they're DC comic book heroes.
Billy with the Strength of Superman, (some DC heroes that starts with H idk) etc etc. it's just gotta make the word Shazam. Or something. And black Adam is the big bad obv, and more and more villains are introduced or something. And we can see Billy interact with these "new gods" cause Superman is a modern day mythos and I just think it'd be cool that Superman is one of the superheroes that he has access to his power. Like a little reference to the fact that Superman inspired Capt Marvel and stuff.
Second "headcanon" I have is that Captain Marvel isn't as strong or stronger than Superman. Wait hear me out please 😭
Ik that this is basically canon in some comics but I'm more so talking about fanfic and fanon Billy. I love the idea of Billy being stronger than Supes but if we think about it a little more. I think both can work. See the gods that are Billy's patrons are based on rl myths we know. I've seen people on Twitter talk about how a lot of modern superheroes are stronger than Greek and Roman mythologies specifically. And basically how Superheros are the modern myths. The strongest thing that's ever lifted is like a mountain (someone said something about Atlas holding the heavens and how that's different or the fact that Superman held it too blh blah blah ignore Atlas) and that's because people back then don't have our modern understanding of space and FUCKING MATH. Basically people kept making stronger and stronger characters.
I also thought of this because of the most recent Captain Marvel comic the 2023 one. How Billy was arguing with the gods and how they were fighting for control of the Captain's body. How they were so desperate to make themselves known to the people of earth to show themselves off basically. To have people worship them again like they used to. I haven't finished the comic I stopped after black Adam was introduced (I need to read it again) anyways that is what I like. The gods arguing and being egotistical. The gods are mad because humanity doesn't worship them anymore and they want Billy to advertise that his patrons are the gods. The patrons are not as strong as Supes. They are ancient beings that cannot keep up with the modern era. But they're still powerful. So after Billy and his patrons have an agreement or whatever Billy agrees to talk about his patrons more often or whatever. This makes more people become more aware of the God's existence and causes a world wide talk about religion (Billy seeing the shit storm he caused: yikes... *Flies away*) and well they get more powerful. Billy becomes more powerful. So Billy gradually becomes more powerful his biggest strength is his magic. Like he's not as physically as powerful as Superman or Wonder woman but he's waayyyy more powerful than people think. Like he curb stomps like 70%-90% of the DC universe. Maybe more maybe less idk much about DC. But add magic into the mix? Yea he's stronger than like 90% of the verse. (Cause he's the champion of magic duh) And actually having Captain Marvel rely more on magic when he's subduing a mind controlled Superman would be like super epic. And then after he's reached his max strength and speed and etc. (Mercury is NOT faster than the flash in this AU yes he does not like the flash family he's jealous) We introduce GOD OF GODS CAPTAIN MARVEL!!! (can you tell I hated that they went NOWHERE WITH THAT THEY JUST STOPPED CONTINUING GOD OF GODS CAPTAIN MARVEL I'M SOOOO PISSED OFF) The old gods fucked off or something idk and REMEMBER BILLY IS THE CHAMPION OF MAGIC WITH THE POWER OF THE GODS!!! Of course he's the champion of every god that has ever existed too!!!! Human gods and alien gods. gods that have existed before and will exist in the future. Most of the more powerful gods dgaf about Billy but some care and some of them are powerful ASF. And Billy gets new patrons. Yes they are the gods from Captain Marvel GOD OF GODS I WANTED MORE OF THEM FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!! And so now Billy is more powerful or as powerful as Supes and Diana.
Have Billy grow stronger and stronger gradually. I want big leaps in power too.
This leads into my other headcanon is inspired by Kingdom Come Captain Marvel/Billy Batson. That Billy is a wild card. Billy exists outside of fate. In this Headcanon fate says that a champion will be born before Black Adam's return. Fate chooses Billy, but in doing so is leaving the fate of the world in Billy's hands. Billy can control his own destiny and fate. And he can interfere with other people's fates. That's what makes him so dangerous because the moment Billy is born in the world, the universe starts to change. It starts to become crazier and more magical. It no longer follows a path. Now with every major decision that Billy makes it causes so much change. It is always important. Always makes a wave throughout the universe. The threats start to get crazier and there's a danger that's bigger than the universe expects. Something Magical.
Billy is the catalyst for this change. And if you were to write the DC world like a complete story then I'd make it so the end of the DC era ends with a Captain Marvel Antagonist. He would be the beginning and end of DC. At least in my AU. Or how I'd write Captain Marvel.
Like you're gonna give a character the title Champion of Magic, God of Gods and not have him become basically the most powerful being in existence!? BRO C'MON.
Anyways that's my headcanons and AU's and Opinions on which direction people should go with Captain Marvel/Billy Batson's character.

Instead of Billy being some mysterious being that no one knows is a child what if literally everyone in Fawcett knows.
like, Billy will go into an active terrorist attack and everyone will be like "Yeah okay, that's fine". he visits children's hospitals like he does as Captain Marvel but he turns back for the kids who are scared of his larger form.
When frustrated in a fight he'll throw a small fit at the villain and everyone won't call him immature or odd for it instead they go "Yeah, well he was a big meanie anyway!" and "I'd never wanna be that bully!".
After fights Billy will get taken out for milkshakes and such with the whole block drinking with him. he'll kick an officer in the knee and everyone will curse the officer out (using censored words of course, this is Fawcett, and they are with a child).
They find out he's homeless and suddenly a random black hair blue-eyed orphan kid owns the most expensive apartment in the city.
After Billy joins the league batman has a heart attack trying to figure out who he is with every member quietly doing the same.
For some reason, no one in Fawcett will tell them about his identity despite them clearly knowing it. it doesn't help that any information regarding it magically distorts after a couple of days ( Zatana had said it was a safety precaution for the Champions identity)
One day Billy invites them to Fawcett for his birthday party and theirs a giant crowd asking him to "go small" The league's confused because Captain Marvel doesn't "go small".
And then he goes small and everyone's treating the captain turning into a ten-year-old child as normal.
The league just stands there in shock as they realize that yes, Captain Marvel Is an orphan child and an entire city knew before they got any hint.
(batman cries himself to sleep that night)

Blah... Blah.. Blah.. Billy's Identity gets revealed and he is a poor sad traumatized 12 year old.
lame. old. angst ridden. we get it
consider
Captain Marvel is the ONLY Leaguer that has his identity secret. This goes on for YEARS before anyone find out and he fully in his mid to late 20s. I want Billy to reveal his identity a solid 15 years into being a super and well into adulthood.
Picture Billy Batson 25 nice beard, his body filling out and looking older and mature. College graduate and everything. Maybe he works at WizRadio as a full on newscaster persona / reporter so people know his face. Or maybe he embraced the magical side and is a known magic user in Fawcett that people go to.
After the - what 15 year? (if u want him to be a founder) or 20 year anniversary for the Justice League Founding. He's finally gonna do it reveal who he is. And its just a random 28 year old guy whom has been in the Sups business for how long? wait! Hold on-! Someone crunch the numbers. (TESSA ANALYSIS!)

Billy Batson is adopted by Bruce Wayne but neither knows each other's secret identity AU where Billy goes to Batman for information.
Billy doesn't know what to think of his new foster parent, but he is famous and from Gotham so surely Batman knows something about him. Batman has info on everyone!
So he goes up to Batman and asks, "Do you know anything about Bruce Wayne?"
Billy somehow leaves the conversation more confused about his new foster parent.
