I feel like that Jorge is being extra careful with the wording when it comes to Calypso in order to avoid incurring in the consent issues present in the Odyssey on this part.

it's not as blessed a discovery as he'd initially thought, agustin quickly realizes of the agua fresca as circe makes a move to close the gap between them ; the way she grins at him, her smile nearly as blinding as the scorching summer sun overhead, he's suddenly cursing that both of his hands are occupied by cups and he can't pull her impossibly closer, give her a little spin like he often does around her kitchen the morning after a long night on the job. he'll settle for the kiss on his cheek, though ― but it's not really settling, is it ? not with the way his grin reaches all the way up to crease the corners of his gaze as he stares fondly at her, the way his heart flutters in his chest as he catches a whiff of her shampoo on the breeze. ❝ i thought so, ❞ he says, as if he didn't already know. ( of course he knows ; years now, it's been, since santi has started paying attention to what it is that makes circe smile, what brings her joy ― it often brings him joy too, after all. ) lifting his hand to lick the syrupy sweet remnants from his fingers after she takes the cup from him ― not the most sanitary, no, but he'd forgotten to grab napkins and now that he's got a free hand, he has sanitizer somewhere ― agustin grins. the watermelon is good, ❞ he concedes and then, when she thanks him, ❝ of course. ❞ it's a balancing act to clean his hands with the cup, but santi makes due without spilling too much, only taking a sip of his own drink once he's done. ❝ what are we in line for now ? something good, i hope. i was thinking after we grab a bite, maybe we could check out the vintage market they've got set up ? i didn't get too close, but i saw a couple of things while i was grabbing drinks, looked pretty neat.❞

Ok, so I am HOWLING with laughter.
So, have you heard? People are comparing Percy and Annabeth to................Odysseus and Penelope.
When I heard this, you don't know how funny it was to me. I almost choked on my spit. LMAOOOOOOOOOOO
Penelope would NEVER hit or insult Odysseus. She doesn't play mind games with him and they communicate properly.
Odysseus and Penelope are not toxic. Percabeth is.
Also, Rick Riordan is LEAGUES worse than Homer. Like, the guy cannot even compare to the ACTUAL GREEK POET.
And people are actually comparing the two.
Percy Jackson IS good at times, but it will NEVER compare to Homer's compositions. Literally never.
TBH that's just my personal opinion.
Also, Homer actually composed many of the Greek epics that we still read today.
I get why people would want to compare them, but there is no comparison, really. It's so fucking funny to me.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on Percabeth compared to Odysseus and Penelope?
That comparison alone has ruined the New Year for me. It's an insult to the Odyssey. Hell, it's an insult to the recently released Ithaca Saga of Epic the Musical.
But seriously, are these things actually being said? Cause that puts Percabeth stans from delusional category to brain dead.
Homer's Iliad and The Odyssey are one of history's most reputed myths of all time. And the primary source of Greek mythology for many people. I am certain Rick himself referred Homer's works for ideas and references. Even Riordan himself would be ashamed to compare his writing to Homer, in even the slightest manner.
Now to Odysseus and Penelope; the greatest couple of all time, truly and undeniably. The orignal eternal love. Even Hera, the goddess of marriage and family, considers Odysseus and Penelope's marriage bed sacred. Which Odysseus carved out of a living tree as a symbol of their undying love and so that it could never be moved.
Odysseus crawled through hell to get to Penelope and Telemachus. He survived and won the 10 year long Trojan war, defeated/ tricked a Cyclops, countless mythical monsters, Circe, Calypso, and even Zeus himself and at last Poseidon. That alone is beyond comprehension. Because Odysseus isn't a demigod or any specially blessed being. No, he is just an ordinary mortal, a genius mortal, one trained by the wisdom goddess but an ordinary mortal all the same. Yes, he is one of a kind genius, but these are literally eldritch creatures compared to him.
Let me put it this way, Odysseus is the OG Batman. He is who all smart fictional human characters aspire to be.
The Odyssey is literally about the all transcending power of human will. Of Odysseus's sheer fucking will to get back home, to his wife and son. That's it. A common desire of a common man, yet so miraculously burning and indomitable in Odysseus's mind that it alone outshines his extraordinary genius.
He quite literally died on his way there. Had to hitch a ride through the Underworld and then some.
Then he had to sacrifice his ENTIRE CREW, HIS FRIENDS, HIS COMRADES to get back to Ithaca. Mind you, Odysseus had the record of getting every single one of his 600 men alive out of Trojan War. The only one to have done so. And he had to lose some to the tragedies and then WILLINGLY SACRIFICE others to get back to Penelope.
I don't think there are words enough to encapsulate Odysseus's dedication.
Now Penelope. The thing is, she is just as bloody impressive. The Queen of Ithaca and a Spartan Princess, she is also one of a kind. Throughout Odysseus's departure and the suitors' invasion , not five, not ten, 108 SUITORS, Penelope held her own, keeping the castle, her son Telemachus and herself secure. All the while, raising Telemachus and running the kingdom on her own as well.
She tricked the suitors into an eternally futile game of trying to lift Odysseus's bow and shoot with it. Tricked them by telling them she was weaving Odysseus's shroud, which, when finished, would signify that she is picking a new husband. Each day, she would weave for all suitors to see, and each night, she would unravel the shroud. All in an attempt to stall. Among the many other ways, she did so. Including STEADFASTLY DENYING EACH AND EVERY SUITOR CONSTANTLY FOR YEARS AS THEY ASKED FOR HER HAND, NEVER ONCE LOSING HOPE OR FAITH IN ODYSSEUS.
When Odysseus returns, disguised as a beggar, she not only immediately recognizes him but subtly helps him in killing the suitors, which then Odysseus and Telemachus proceed to do.
All 108 suitors dead in a night. Add that to 600 men under Odysseus's command. 708 lives murdered and then some all for Odysseus and Penelope to reunite.
And this is me abridging the whole thing. Imagine the struggle, the suffering, the mental and physical trauma. 20 years straight. You can't fathom it.
I don't think I have words enough to state how repulsively disrespectfully wretched this comparison is. I would use an analogy, but it's so horrendous that I don't think there's one that suffices.
I literally have more than half the posts dedicated to dismantling the delusion of percabeth being a perfect ship, so I won't preach to the choir, but I mean Annabeth's fatal flaw is Hubris and Percy's is Personal Loyalty. Go figure.
If that isn't enough, Percy jumped in Tartarus for Annabeth. She fell, but Percy jumped, among the many other ways he has saved her from countless deaths. And Annabeth offers him what in return? It would have been alright if she gave him nothing in return, but somehow, the situation is EVEN WORSE.
Physical and mental demeaning. Toxic and controlling attitude and of course BLAMING HIM FOR GETTING KIDNAPPED AND HAVING HIS MEMORY WIPED BY A GODDESS. WOW, THAT SOUNDS SO SIMILAR TO PENELOPE AND ODYSSEUS.
Not to mention, Penelope accepted her husband, as he was. Even after being so completely changed by his tragic journey that he was quite literally NO LONGER HIMSELF.
And Percy when had to CHOKE AKHYLS WHO WAS DEFINITELY GOING TO KILL HIM AND ANNABETH, WAS KILLING HIM AND ANNABETH, OUT OF SELF DEFENSE AND SHE BLAMES HIM AND FORCES HIM TO PROMISE NOT TO USE HIS POWERS TO DEFEND HIMSELF???
WHAT THE FUCK??? And sure it would have been ignorable had it not had any long term effects. BUT NO PERCY ALMOST KILLS HIMSELF OUT OF KEEPING HIS PROMISE TO ANNABETH.
Call them whatever the hell you want but DON'T EVER COMPARE THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO ODYSSEUS AND PENELOPE.
PERCY DESERVES INFINITELY BETTER THAN ANNABETH. Enough said, really.

Even after spending time with Miguel, successfully becoming his boyfriend and getting on his good side, there's the one thing you can get your mind off of; those damn fangs.
Tumblr media
You and Miguel have been dating for a solid 5 months now. You still remember the day you got introduced to the spider society and met him. Those dark eyes that flash red, tall and broody, sharp talons that scrape against metal, swept back hair that might as well have swept you off your feet. No literally. The first day you went to meet him you tripped on air and fell straight into his arms.
How did that manage to win his heart? Now that's the real anomaly.
One thing you can't get over and can't seem to wrap your head around is his fangs. You’ve been told by him it's used to paralyze enemies when needed, and most of the time he forgets it’s there. But in your mind, you keep replaying the times when he talked, or his rare smiles and laughs reserved for only you. How does he eat with it? Did he ever bite himself when he goes on his rants? How does he not have a lisp with how big they are?
When the sharp fangs glints and it sends shivers down your body. Curiosity and arousal clouds you whenever Miguel talks, and it’s honestly distracting at team meetings.
“Hey, you there?” He snaps his fingers in front of you as you blink away the thoughts, realizing a couple of other Spideys in the briefing looking at you with squinted eyes.
“Oh yeah- Sorry, pre-mission anxiety and all,” You tried to laugh it off, averting from Miguel's worried gaze. He knows you're capable, he knows you're strong, that's the reason why you're always with him on missions, why you're trusted with a team. But those flashing red eyes couldn't help but hesitate each time you leave the base.
Miguel continues the brief, assigning teams to universes and anomalies. He sends you off with your teams while he leads his. Each team consists of two spideys, if the anomaly is a particularly notorious villain in their respective universes, Miguel would send three. You’re standing next to Jessica, her bike parked just meters from the portal. While the others had already jumped, Miguel stayed behind while Ben jumped first into the portal. The hum of Jessica’s bike startles you and breaks your eyes from staring at Miguel, and she seems to notice.
“Go ahead, go talk to him,” She nods, a small smile on her lips before she rides off into the portal. You sigh, with your boyfriend staying behind, he seems to have the same idea.
You walk across the metal floor, Miguel standing just near his portal. “So, an easy one today, huh?”
“Yeah, me and Ben can take care of him, it’s just another Doc Oct,” He checks something on his watch, the orange hologram lighting up. You can't help but notice it gleams against his fangs.
“Alright, uhm-” You cough, alerting Miguel as he turns to you. “Be safe out there, babe,”
The way you said those last words, too small for your usual cheerfulness, makes Miguel’s brows furrow. He reaches for your hand, softly holding them. “Hey, are you okay?”
“Huh? Oh yeah, I'm fine! Don't worry baby,” You smirk, patting his arm where he’s still holding your hand. “Stay safe, and come back home, okay?”
Miguel tilts his head slightly, before his lips quirks, a ghost of a smile. “You too, my love,”
And with that, Miguel turns and enters his portal, the circle closes as he disappears. You sigh, both relieved and frustrated somehow. You shook your head, trying to dissipate those thoughts, at least for the time being. Glancing at your portal, you take another breath, before running and leaping into it, another day of saving the multiverse.
“Okay, what's going on?” You turn to Jessica leaning on her bike, arms crossed and one brow raised. It’s the ‘Spill It’ face you’ve come to love, but also loathe when she uses it on you.
“What’s ‘what’ going on?” Jessica scoffs, tilting her head when your back is still facing her while you twip a web at the Lizard's jaw, the anomaly tied and secured, ready for transport. “Nothings going on,”
She sees you shrug as you turn around, her only response is to nod again, gauging an answer. Her eyes stare deep into you, making you gulp as you aver her sharp, questioning glare. A beat passes, your suit suddenly feels clammier than usual. You tug slightly at the part that hugs your neck, looking down at the street.
“Okay fine!” You huff, a satisfied smirk from Jessica. “I’ve been thinking about Miguel-”
“That's not new sweetie,” She snickers, making you stumble on your words.
“I’m- I know but it's not about him… I guess?”
“Go on…”
“Have you-” You huff, crossing your arms. “You’ve seen his fangs, right? Those sharp things,” You point to your own little fangs, which makes Jesicca hum.
“Hard not to,” She shrugs.
“You ever wonder how sharp they are?” You tilt your head, fully turning to Jessica. “Y’know it's pretty big, and pretty sharp, I wonder how he doesn't bite himself with it? Or how he doesn't have a lisp, or maybe he can retract them but then when he talks it’s always out so I don't know if he can do that, we’ve kissed a couple of times but I didn't feel those things-”
“Okay whoa there,” She chuckles, walking towards you. “I get it, cool fangs, you’re curious about them,”
She places her hands on your shoulders, a grin on her lips. “That's what got you all distracted today?”
“Yeah… Sorry,”
“Oh don't be kid, I get it,” She nods, before giggling. “Not ‘get it’ get it, but you're in love, and love makes curiosity and wonder, and I get that,” She pats your arms.
“Bring that up with Miguel, would’ya?” She grinned, a mischievous glint behind her goggles. You blink, realizing she has started walking back to her bike. You chuckle, a steady blush spreading on your cheeks.
“Y-yeah, I will,” You smile, shooting out webs to bring the anomaly back while Jasicca rides into the portal first.
Once the anomalies are stored in their cells and boxes, Miguel debriefs the others while you were making sure each anomaly is accounted for.
“I think that's all, right Lyla?” You nod to her small figure sitting on your shoulder. She looks at one of her holograms before nodding.
“Yep! All here,” Her holograms disappear as she glitches and changes to your right shoulder. She suddenly leans in, a dangerous smirk on her face. “So that's what’s up huh?”
You groan, flinching your shoulder which makes her hologram change to stand in front of you. “Lyla you know I hate it when you listen in,”
“Hey I always listen in, y’know I’m online at all times,” She snickers. “Don't worry, your secret is safe with me,”
You huff, which makes her laugh as you roll your eyes. You glance at Miguel, still talking with the other spideys, those distracting fangs just barely visible between his soft lips.
“Sooo…” Lyla floats in front of you, again. “You plannin’ on saying anything?”
She can practically hear the gears in your head turning, before you sigh and remove your mask, adjusting your ruffled hair. “I suggest you stay offline tonight,”
Lyla spots the blooming red that spreads across your face, at which she giggles mischievously. “Okay, whatever you say,” She shrugs before glitching to your right. “I'll just hang out with Margo then,”
“Yeah, thanks Lyla,” A grateful smile on your lips. Lyla nods before she disappears and leaves you alone.
Miguel has finally wrapped off the debrief and sent the others to do what they please since today's mission is over. The other spideys wave their farewell to you as they pass, you reply while you walk closer to your boyfriend. Jesica passes you, a sly smirk on her lips, before she pats your shoulder. You give her a small smile before nodding, and she’s on her way.
Miguel’s back is turned, busy with his monitor, wrapping up the day. His head tilts a bit, as he notices you're walking toward him. You pull one of the stray chairs to Miguel's platform and as if instincts, he sat down just as you pushed it behind him. His eyes are still scanning the monitors but he turns slightly towards you as you lean on the consoles.
“Good job out there Miguel,” You smile, glancing at the screens.
“You too, as always,” His lips quirks, one arm rests on the chair while the other swipes at the screen. “Though I have seen some things we can improve on the teams. I haven't debriefed you yet like the others, so listen to me okay?”
You nodded, crossing your arms into a more relaxed tone. “Good, so according to team three we need to-”
And that's the last thing you hear before you turn to look at Miguel, catching that sharp glint of those fangs. Around you, Miguel usually lets his guard down, his way of letting you know he trusts you. So he talks more, his hands punctuate what needs to be punctuated, and those lips move wider. In other circumstances, listening to him would be easy, but with each word he spoke, a peak of those sharp fangs caught your attention instead. Miguel continues to point out the images on the screens, occasionally asking you a question to which you responded with a ‘Uhuh’ or ‘Yeah’. That seemed to satisfy Miguel until—
“-And that's to add the upgrades on your suit, what do you think?”
“Uhuh,”
“What?” Miguel retracts, tearing his eye away from the screens. “I asked about your suit?”
A beat passes, before you blink, realizing your boyfriend was staring, and shaking yourself out of the daze. “Huh? What did you ask?”
Miguel sighs, crossing his arms. Sadly those muscles adds another point to the distraction. “Were you even listening to me?”
He stiffens, watches as you stand in front of him, one arm on the chair's headrest, completely trapping him in. Slowly, your other hand moves up, and settles on his jaw. Throughout the months of dating you, Miguel has never seen this side of you, never seen how bold you could be. Steady hands cup his jaw, your thumb gliding across his lips, before you press slightly. As if a switch is flipped, Miguel inhales sharply and parts his lips, inclining his head when you hold his chin. Your thumb moves over his lower set of fangs, before suddenly followed by your other hand, pushing his mouth open to expose his upper, sharper fangs. His eyes flashes and brows furrows slightly, surprised at the sight of your rapt expression, eyes scanning him.
There's a hint of fondness behind those usually irritated gazes as he looks at you before he sighs and opens his mouth to continue his question before you were overcome with the sudden urge to see. You lean off of the console and approach your boyfriend. “Sorry, Miguel I just have to-”
“Fascinating…” You lean closer, taking pride in the way Miguels is stunned, practically crushing the armrest under his claws. Your index pushes at his upper jaw, letting you get an eyeful of that part of Miguel you’ve been dreaming about. It reflects the blue lights in the room, your eyes widen at it. Your thumb touches its start before gliding down to the pointed end, Miguel pants lightly. How would they feel against my skin?
Your eyes roam up to the prominent blush on Miguel's cheeks, the red in his irises shakes. Slowly, you bring him closer, one hand stays on his chin while the other moves behind his head. His eyes flutter as you press your lips against his, his gasp allows you to slide your tongue inside. Carefully, you trace that sharp fang, making Miguel grunt, his hand suddenly gripped your wrist, pulling apart.
“Don't- It’s dangerous,” He says between pants, the blush coloring his beautiful complexion.
“Paralysis, right?” You smirk, fingers playing at his curled strands. Miguel shivers then swallows hard. “How about we unwind from today,”
A glint in your eyes, watching as Miguel becomes putty between your hands, his blown-out pupils staring at you in reverence. You smirk, breath ghosting against his lips when you bring him closer again.
“Show me what those fangs do, baby,”

I've been seeing a lot of eurylochus hate on tiktok and I've come to rant about how you're allowed to hate him if you want to (I understand) but also, from my point of view, the man doesn't deserve it all. (this is in no way hate towards odysseus, I love the dude)
the way I see it, he literally is just a man. he's made mistakes, obviously. shouldn't have opened the bag, shouldn't have questioned odysseus in front of all the crew, shouldn't have eaten the cows...
but people are calling him a hypocrite for the way he shouts at ody for sacrificing 6 men when he was ready to run for his life when they were with circe. and stupid for opening the bag when he had one job. and dumb for eating the cows.
here's the thing though. eurylochus started out in the musical as the guy that's worried for the dangers that await, he just wants to get home, like everyone else on the ship. he's the first ready to battle for the chance of food to feed themselves and skeptic at polites' view of being nice. he's all "let's get our food by force and get going, we gotta get home" ("I say we strike first, we don't have time to waste, so let's raid the place and-")
but then the kindness plan sort of works. for a quick second, before they start to get slaughtered by a cyclops. odysseus gets them out of it because he's a great leader tho. smart and with a plan, the kind of man eurylochus has relied on for over 10 years. his brother.
but... his brother is tweaking a bit, he had this fight with his matron and lost one of his best friends along with idk how many men that we're under his care... anyone would be traumatized, even if Odysseus doesn't see it yet (I believe he had a time of denial where he wanted to stay positive like polites, but deep down he was spiraling). and eurylochus shows his concern in luck runs out. was he wrong for voicing his concern in front of the crew? absolutely. but I think eurylochus' brain was also tweaking. bro was worried and wants to get home. he also can't help but think how in his war experience, there's many plans that have gone wrong, people around him keep dying and so what if? what if one of his captain's plans goes wrong and they're all goners? and Odysseus understands!! ("thank you for the concern (...) I understand that we're tired, I understand that we're fazed"), but he tries to remind him to have faith in him. so eurylochus does. and I think he's always had faith in his captain, he just didn't trust the gods to be in their favour anymore, because lately, they haven't. he also voiced it at the beginning of the song ("don't forget how dangerous the gods are").
and then eurylochus opened the bag. big fuck up. and maybe it's too far fetched and I'm just looking for ways to justify his behavior BUT. I don't think he did it just to disobey captain's orders. if he had done it because he didn't trust odysseus then guilt wouldn't have been eating him later. I understand it might be because Poseidon suddenly showed up and killed most of the fleet like a minute after he did, that's a big possibility, yes. I also don't think he did because he believed the bag held treasure. he trusted odysseus' word over anything else, so when he said the bag had the storm inside eurylochus believed him. but what if, just what if, by opening just enough the winds would propel them to Ithaca? then again, if the storm was holding them from getting there in the first place why would a man desperate to get home try that? this is not my strongest argument tbh.
then he wants to leave the men as pigs and go home. he truly just wants to go home (10 years of war, a horrible journey back when it should've taken like a week at most, my dude just wants his mom to pick him up and take him home and honestly, same). but bruh. he's been the one that's repeatedly said that they shouldn't trust strangers or gods, reminding everyone to be on their guard, and suddenly his men see a woman and forget all about it???? the guy is traumatized, mourning, tired, and angry. on top of that they placed an enemy that his men should've easily been able to defeat had it been a regular woman and they ended up as pigs, so he really sees no way of beating her and getting anyone back. of course he wants to run away!!! safe whatever is left before he loses himself completely ("look at all we've lost and all we've learned, every single cost is so much more than what we've earned, think about the men we have left before there's none, let's just cut our losses, you and I, and let's run")
and that's exactly the difference between eurylochus in puppeteer and odysseus in Scylla and mutiny. eurylochus wants to run away because he doesn't see another way out. he's seeing his friends disappear one after the other either to death or to magic, and he's on survival mode. whoever is left, whoever is still alive, they should leave before they aren't anymore. they all need to get home. odysseus however, he's blinded by the need to get himself home to see his wife and son. he's the one that has to get home, and to ensure that, they have to pass by Scylla's lair, because if they don't go that way, Poseidon might get them and if he does, he won't let Odysseus get out alive this time. so if 6 men is what it takes, he'll do it. it's not running away, it's sacrificing.
i think the next turning point for eurylochus is actually mutiny. but here it's important to talk about how much the journey has changed him, odysseus, and their relationship and the way they see each other. like i said, eurylochus starts the journey worried about what's up ahead and, like everyone else, thinking only about getting home. but he trusts his captain with his life in every decision he makes. he also speaks for the entire crew. odysseus also starts the journey tired and thinking only about getting to ithaca. but he's got 600 men to think about as well. as captain, their lives and deaths are on him, and with every turn, he loses more and more of these men. like it or not, he's responsible for it, even if he tried his best, even if he didn't mean for it to go in that direction; he's in charge, he's responsible. it's sorta like when parents tell the eldest kid they're the model for the younger siblings.
but in the polyphemus' cave, when odysseus panics and eurylochus has to wake him up from his unresponsive state, it's not only a blow for ody, it's also a blow for eurylochus. he relies on odysseus to carry them through and he wasn't answering. they were all going through the same thing, watching their friends die, but he was the one that's supposed to keep it together the most. alas, they're all just men. and that's when eurylochus' concerns and picture perfect of odysseus start to show and blur.
odysseus still tries his best to lead with kindness like polites showed him, taking care of everyone as he should, but with every passing day and with every hardship, it becomes more and more difficult to do so. and then, just when he thinks he's about to get the answer that will save them all, by going down to literal hell, the guy with the answer tells him he won't get home to his wife and kid (the thing that's been keeping him sane and giving him hope throughout this shit of a journey). that everything they've done, all the kindness, all the being nice, has been for nothing. he also realizes that he's taking way too long and he's losing too much, like his mom, who was left waiting. so he breaks (monster).
throughout this whole thing, he never doubted eurylochus would be by his side, and he lowkey neglects and takes him for granted. dismissing when he wants to tell him something ("whatever you need to say can wait some more, of that i'm sure" in puppeteer, and if he'd let him talk he probably would've been able to prevent mutiny, but he was too distraught and wanted time to think), and he was warned in keep your friends close too, even if he didn't know it. he was also warned by the prophet, but he still didn't know it ("i see a brother's final stand"). i think it's because while odysseus did want them all to go back home, at least during most of their travels, he mostly wanted to get home himself. deep down, he was always ready to make the sacrifices, life just hadn't forced him to make them or hadn't made the right circumstances or traumatized him enough.
eurylochus sees how the experiences change him from the outside, and what it means for the rest of them every time odysseus loses himself some more. but this is odysseus, it's his brother, the man he entrusts his life to, the man that's guided them through war and the underworld, taken them out of the weirdest troubles, and the man that's most desperate to reach ithaca. and the guy that's seemingly gotten his shit together (finally) and is ready to do whatever it takes, slay whoever now (different beast). so he'll pull through, right? he might be a monster towards the dangers that are trying to get them, but he's always done his best to protect them, so there's nothing to worry about.
so a part of eurylochus has trouble believing odysseus would really sacrifice six of their friends, because he doesn't want to believe it. but the smartest man he knows wouldn't just tell them to "run for their lives" when he's well aware they're in a fucking boat. and he is desperate. eurylochus asks, begs, odysseus to tell him he's wrong in thinking he didn't just do what he did, because he needs his brother to not have gone completely off the path they paved at the beginning of the story ("use your wits to try and say i'm crazy and mad, that this is all a trick the gods have sent").
but he's too far gone in his tunnel vision, and eurylochus has to think of himself and the men that are left too, who also want to get to their families. and at the rate this is going, he's losing too many friends. at first, odysseus was to blame only in the "he's responsible for all of us because of his role as captain", but he never meant for their men to die and he tried with all his might to keep them safe, but as of right now, he used them as bait and let them die on purpose. he can't stay in charge if he won't fulfill his role as keeper of them. so eurylochus stages mutiny. rightfully so? maybe, maybe not. i personally think he didn't do it out of hate, he just didn't see another out. but he wasn't a hypocrite any more than odysseus was, so in my opinion, he was justified.
anyway then they get to the sun god's island. and people like to say that he shouldn't have killed them cows. and this is one of the parts were the hate makes me lowkey mad. as humans, when we're pushed to a point of heavy starvation or anything that endangers our lives, we enter survival mode, where instincts take over and we do things we wouldn't do if we were in our right minds. and that's exactly it, eurylochus and the rest of the crew weren't in their right minds anymore. they're hungry, and they don't have the willpower odysseus seems to have. they've given up after everything they've been through, and they're hungry and don't think they'll make it home anyway, so they eat the cows. eurylochus can't help it, and even after all, he still cares for odysseus, but he doesn't believe in their chances anymore ("ody, we're never gonna get to make it home, you know it's true", "i'm starving/tired, my friend"). he's past the point of hoping, he wants it all to end, and he can only think of his hunger, the one thing he can actually do something about in that moment. ("how much longer must i suffer now? how much longer must push through doubt? how much longer must i go about my life like this, when people die like this?" he repeats it in plural as well, voicing the crew)
so in the end, he kills the cow. and then odysseus gets to choose and he chooses himself. he has to see his wife and he'll take any opportunity that allows him to. he's on survival mode too, just with a different goal, the one that keeps him sane and makes him push through everything horrible that happens to him.
the odyssey is a story that shows how its characters lose themselves to sorrow, each in a different way. so neither odysseus nor eurylochus are to blame for the way they acted, life pushed them to the edge and they each responded in different ways. it wasn't fair to either of them, they're just men that can only withstand so much.

What would the seven wear? - Fashion Style analysis ( HOO Girls Ver.)
as a kid I used to want to be a fashion designer so making this post healed my inner child <3 enjoy ~
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HAZEL LEVESQUE - okay okay omgg this girl would have the best fashion sense out of all of them (imo) because she is influenced by SO many fashion aesthetics, like her style would be vintage and modern at the same time! I feel like she would love long flowy dresses because it was the most common clothing women would wear in the 40's, she would love floral patterns sm because they are so cheery and it lightens her mood, this would bring out her "adorable" style more. also. JACKETS. this girl is OBESSED with jackets and cardigans, particularly in the colors brown and black. Overall her style is a mix of cheery, cute but she has that pluto edge to her style aswell with the jackets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
PIPER MCLEAN- honestly as much as she would hate to admit it, i feel like Piper would LOVE pink, pale pink takes up the majority of her palette. Her style is very youthful and it's a mix of rebel indie kid and soft coquette core. LOVES LOVES LOVES denim shorts, they are like a must in her wardrobe. Also, She loves jewelry, whether it be tassel earrings, beady bracelets and necklaces, rings etc. like she defo cares more about accessorizing than the actual clothing. she wears baggy white shirts a lot for some reason, but it suits her so well. Crop tops are a must, specifically pink or purple ones with a cute image on it, remember she wore a hello kitty crop top? yeah like that. I feel like her style is the most fresh and childlike without it being over the top, it is so cute. i love her style sm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ANNABETH CHASE- Annabeth's style is super elegant tbh, she LOVES wearing grey, orange and white imo, also, i feel like she LOVES light blue/dark blue jeans. Ofc Annabeth loves caps, its like super dear to her, she doesn't have a specific "style" she just loves changing it a lot. Annabeth LOVES long dresses especially if they are white/warm brown. Her style is just super chill and modern. Percy is down bad when she wears baggy shirts tho cuz she slays so hard in them Annabeth loves knitted lace jackets because it gives off very homely vibes. Overall her style is super authentic and fresh tbh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
REYNA AVILA RAMIREZ ARELLANO- i have a feeling that reyna would love dressing up. it brings her comfort, she was the hairdresser in circe's island after all, Reyna is just straight up royal core. she likes wearing corsets, and silk gowns, Her color palette is gold, black, white, violet, and dark maroon tbh. Reyna LOVES large gold earrings that just dangle y'know? it makes her feel and look regal. She also loves circlets that you wear on the head. uggh she has got that roman classiness y'know. Super fancy and enjoys wearing long robes and skirts, i love my fancy shmancy queen <3

A Smallishbeans Centric Epic! Au
Okay so first off I am going to set it up like so:
Epic!Character - Hermit/Lifer/Empyrian - my reasoning and design choices
Also this comes with new watcher lore at the end
please give ideas for Calypso and Apollo <333
Odysseus - Joel - He can be surspisingly clever at times, but I chose him for Ody more because 1 he’s straight and obsessed with his wife 2 he is a bloodthirsty bastard when he is red raging and 3 because he isn’t good with teammates
Zeus - Ren - It’s simple really, 1 he’s a theatre kid, 2 the red king
Penelope - Lizzie - well fist off, she’s Joel’s irl wife, but also because she is girlboss and a clever bitch
Telemachus - Hermes - he is Joel’s canonical kid and yeah
Eurylochus - Grian - very serious when he needs to be, is logical during the life series, and so would open the windbag for the lols
Polites - Jimmy - Canary curse, is baby, he can’t fight good and supports Joel and also would ensue shenanigans as soon as they are alone
Winions - Tanukis - a reference to @Mellozheist ‘s Hermitcraft tanuki!Joel design
Athena - Gem - She is an excellent fighter and is very logical when picking fights, she isn’t afraid to finish the job and the dynamic she and Joel had in Wild life felt similar to Ody and Athena’s (imagine Gem scolding Joel for going all bloodlust again after telling him not to red rage all season)
Polyphemus - Xornoth - big and only one eye but same design otherwise. Xornoth is terrifying in Esmp s1 lore. Imagine a giant one-eyed demon using corruption magic and a club to kill you, it’s also fun to point out that Joel didn’t acknowledge Xornoth at all in Esmp s1 and this is referenced in ‘tell me what’s your name?’ ‘My name is nobody’ Also this choice will make a lot of sense when you take into account who I picked for Poseidon
Aeolus - Scar - Now hear me out here, Scar is a prankster. This is a good prank. Aeolus’ whole thing is ‘do my lil task and u win!’ ‘What’s the catch’ ‘hahaha wouldn’t you like to know’ like Scar does that shit all the time. He rides on a cloud because he can’t walk and the cloud changes shape to accommodate him (After the time skip he just suddenly doesn’t have a shirt btw)
Poseidon - Scott - he’s dramatic, he’s queer, he’s petty, he’s been in a rivalry on life series with Joel since Last life, and in a world where both Scott and Xornoth (being brothers in lore) are evil, Scott, being loyal to his associates, would show up to defend him
Circe - Sausage - he ran a sanctuary for magical creatures and these people were attacked so he protected them. Also he owns a strip club so he would seduce people  to lure them in before brutally murdering them like a gentleman
Hermes - Oli - based on vibes tbh, but also on that one time when Joel played MCC Ender Cup at Oli’s and when they were losing Oli would hype him up by making up a song on the spot (M C C DO YOU KNOW THE WORDS!?)
Odysseus’ mom - Donkey Jeremy - for the memes, also Joel going to the underworld and finding that his donkey god is dead is brutal when you realize how long he has kept this bit up
Tireseas - Martyn - the lore man himself showing up only to lore drop on the main character and not help at all is such a Martyn move, the voices in the background are listeners dropping even more lore and all of them are giving pretty straight answers compared to Martyn only speaking in double meanings
Siren!Penelope - The Virgin Jeremy - if you don’t know who that is, when Jeremyism was created, Lizzie was brought into the cult religion as ‘the virgin Jeremy’ it looks close enough to Lizzie to be passable from afar but the outfit is all wrong
Odysseus’ ‘daughter’ - that kid Joel had with Jimmy during the Empires x HC crossover - technically his kid, but he gave it away as a Christmas gift so does it really count?
Scylla - Pearl - Scylla is a beast with 6 wolves heads for feet, 5am Pearl from Double Life is remarkably similar to Wolf Joel from 3rd life and Wizard Joel from Last Life, ‘we know that we are the same’ also she is just fucking crazy and deranged and we love her
Antinous - The Secret Keeper - Used as the leader of Watchers in this scenario. Watchers are known to be evil (or at the very least, very morally ambiguous) in lore
Calypso - Iskall fits so well but I don’t like himmmmmm give me better ideas please
Apollo - i dunno tbh, literally no ideas here. I would like ideas thanks.
Hephaestus - Doc - our machine boy, loyal to the bone so ofc he would have a problem with Joel being a traitor but not enough to fight his point because he has things to do
Aphrodite - Skizz - he’s sweet, and loyal, Aphrodite is the goddess of love, but in the musical she focuses on familial love, which Skizz does very well. He’s not on Joel’s side at all because Joel kills Skizz a lot
Ares - False - a good fighter, would love to watch the bloodshed unfold also a fight scene with a Gem and False would look so sick
Hera - Cleo - the 80’s outfit matches Hera’s music, respects a man who doesn’t cheat on his wife, (LOOKING AT YOU ETHO)
Eurymachus - Watcher (partial sight*) - Eurymachus is the one that tries to open arms Odysseus, the partial sight bit will be explained after character list.
Melanthius - Watcher (unseeing**) - Melanthius is the man singing when Telemachus arrives and he is the one making orders and says he will ‘break the kids hands’, unseeeing will be explained after character list.
Watcher lore:
The Secret Keeper is being used as the leader of the watchers, not needing wings to hide the eyes and instead wears a heavy mask with the watcher logo on it.
Watchers usually have two pairs of wings, a small pair where the ears would be cover the watchers eyes, the other pair on their back.
When a Watcher is starting to break away from the normal mentality the face wings begin to pull away from their eyes, Grian his his wings fully unfolded.
*partial sight means the inner half of the eyes are not hidden, meaning the watcher can now see the light/make better decisions
**unseeing means the wings are more tighly folded over the eyes that one is fully under the other like a blindfold, normally watchers can at least see the very smallest difference between being in a dark room and a light one, Unseeing Watchers can not.

Tbh I have reason to believe Circ is one of those people who just goes out on the internet and lies. Like.
- “mixed origin”
- has said a few times they got diagnosed in like 2 days
- has said they’ve known since 15 but constantly spouts information like a faucet
I doubt they’re as old as they say. Teenagers do a lot of shit for clout 💀
..I really would not go that far, it really seems to me like they are a recovered system and just out of touch with how it is for anyone else tbh, I don't think they're lying exactly, and even if they were, it's not like we can tell unless they're extremely obvious, which they aren't. They just seem like they put their own shit on too much of a pedastal and assume that's how it is for everyone, and completely forgetting that systems who haven't recovered yet will not have the same experiences
Fakeclaiming DID/OSDD systems rubs me the wrong way tbh, I don't like circ at all, but that really doesn't mean they're faking lmao.

Any of the gods in Hades could very easily pick you up and use you like a fleshlight, regardless of what you had to say about it, tbh.
I've had this one sitting in my inbox for a couple days, pondering it. Because. It's correct, objectively. I could be picked up and used like a fleshlight - to be honest, I may even like the experience, who knows?
I'd go "[insert character here], one chance!!!" but, there's so many of them they wouldn't fit in the sentence and have that same, nice flow.
So naturally, I will list them. In no particular order:
Ares
Dionysus
Thanatos
Nyx
Aphrodite
Hypnos
Charon
Chaos
Athena
Hephaestus
Chronos
Meg
Achilles
Mel
Artemis
Apollo
Nemesis
Hecate
Circe
Medea
Tisiphone
Zagreus
Alecto
Eurydice
Hera
Hermes
Asterius
Odysseus
Patroclus
Narcissus
Polyphemus
Raw, next question.
I don't think I missed anyone?

As someone who is also really uncomfortable with the Zeus/Odysseus art trend, I completely understand where your coming from!
People’s treatment of Odysseus’s assaults in general makes me really upset. Just the other day I saw a comment on a post saying that “Odysseus wasn’t loyal to his wife yet expects her to be loyal to him” and not once in the replies did I see someone mention that he was literally assaulted. It’s absolutely gross and makes me hesitant to go deeper into the fandom.
I remember being so frustrated when the snippets of “There are Other Ways” came out because so many people were making Hamilton jokes and talking about how he always talks about his wife yet cheated. When in the song it was so clear he was being coerced which is yknow, not a form of consent. I couldn’t even listen to it because it made me so uncomfortable, and even now with the full version out the fandoms reaction to it overall have soured me to it. Which sucks, because I do think it’s a great song.
Also I don’t even think Epic completely erases Calypso’s assault? At least, I think it’s left ambiguous enough during the time jump that people can come to their own conclusions. Specifically when Calypso says “Soon into bed we’ll climb and spend our time” just really gives me the impression that something else happened.
I suppose in the snippets we’ve seen of “I’m Not Sorry For Loving You” it seems like Odysseus and Calypso are on slightly friendlier terms, but I don’t think that negates the fact she could’ve assaulted him. And I’ve always took that song as pretty manipulative on Calypso’s side, with Odysseus more so trying to placate her. But that’s going into theory territory.
And even if he isn’t SA’d in Epic it’s pretty clear he doesn’t want to be there!! Same with Homer’s Odyssey. It’s so infuriating to see the cheating narrative be so widely spread when that is just not what happened.
Anyway’s sorry for the long rant, but I wanted to say that it’s nice to see you take Odysseus’s SA seriously. It’s not something the fandom does enough.
It's okay for the long rant. Sorry I took a bit to get to it but I wanted some "soft chatters" for a bit before I tackled this one :)
"Just the other day I saw a comment on a post saying that “Odysseus wasn’t loyal to his wife yet expects her to be loyal to him” and not once in the replies did I see someone mention that he was literally assaulted. It’s absolutely gross and makes me hesitant to go deeper into the fandom."
I completely understand you with this stuff. ;~; I used to go through Odyssey tags often as I LOVE possibly finding new people to follow and fun things but too many times I would see shit that pissed me off. ;~; I've honestly kind of just stuck to my mutuals that I trust tbh. And honestly, there's soooo much shit of people just straight up not understanding the context/culture/meaning/etc. of the Epics and just taking it at face value and not understanding the meanings. :/ I'm no expert, but I also have analyzed and researched quite a bit on my own to try and get the full picture. I think in order to truly enjoy the Odyssey, you need to just... really soak shit in, you know?
When Calypso, that lovely goddess,  tried                           to keep me with her in her hollow cave, longing for me to become her husband,                                  or when, in the same way, the cunning witch Aeaean Circe held me in her home filled with a keen desire I’d marry her, they never won the heart here in my chest.
(Book 9, Johnston)
Odysseus tells this to the Phaecians. They are strangers that he will likely never see again and who are isolationists. Therefore his story that he told probably won't be "spread" to others so he can probably say whatever. So he doesn't have to worry about "Penelope hearing a different story than the one he told to her" if people wanna argue about how "Oh well, he didn't tell Penelope about the 'affairs'"(He tells her everything as well btw.)
He could literally say "Oh yeah, I had the time of my life!" but he doesn't because that's not true. Odysseus has no listed concubines, I just literally don't see him as the type of guy who's really into that.
And while yes, he would be devastated if she didn't "stay loyal", he does sound like he'd be understanding. He asks his mother in the Underworld if Penelope had gotten remarried to "the finest of Achaeans". And we all know of Odysseus' words of "when Telemachus has a beard, feel free to remarry". Even when first "rejected" by Penelope in that she didn't hug him when he sat across from her, he was incredibly hurt but asked for a separate bed. He literally could have had it where Penelope takes a different bed and he takes their luxurious/fancy one because he has the rest of the household on his side.
But he DOESN'T!
Because he adores her for fuck's sake!
Funny enough? I have the weird reaction of like, weirdly searching out "Good" animatics as it was a weird reassurance of "yes, people see that it's wrong." as while holy fuck. so many stupid, awful jokes about "Say No to This" in the comments (I have learned to just stay the fuck away from youtube comments on Odysseus shit. :') ) but like, seeing and HEARING how yes, this was fucked, was weirdly really nice for me. yeah, it took a lot of digging but there's a few "There Are Other Ways" that I love. Literally, both are unfinished wips and they're still my favorites. If you can, please give these two a watch and some love for the creator.
This was back before we heard the full song and it's still very good. How he's on guard until she "magics" him and the colors change. After that he kind of moves like a "puppet" but he's still resisting as best he can.
youtube
This one is literally still sketches but it's my absolute favorite. Oh my word. The body language, PENELOPE FLASHBACKS!!! Showing cute bits of Penelope's character and how awful this is for him. (Penelope is so cute. She puffs up her cheeks to make him laugh!) How he really is scared that he'll have to go through with this in order to save his friends until all his past trauma floods back and he just can't. It's lovely.
youtube
And yeah Idk how to feel about "I'm Not Sorry For Loving You" :/ I don't know how it'll be yet, maybe there's something in another song that shows Odysseus' real feelings or whatever.
And with just the whole cheating thing, yeah, it's really upsetting to call what is blatant assault "cheating". As wild as it sounds, Odysseus' story has been more relatable for me than any other stories like this, even modern ones. I've spoken a bit about it before but yeh, victim blaming at its finest. I find him and his story and his love for Penelope slkdfj very relatable. It's honestly really nice to write about in a sense..
(I'm pasting this from an old post of mine but yeh)
I have never had a story that felt like how it actually FEELS. The "aftermath" and "regaining life". It's hopeful and feels really good. It's been years since "everything" but it just felt nice to see "Everybody has the chance to get better." Even Nestor, Helen, and Menelaus, while still dealing with their traumas, are doing a lot better now. And after literal hell, Odysseus got to be with his family and loved ones again. He can start living again. It's why I'm just...idk passionate about this? I'm not a murderer or a war veteran but I see myself in him. Hopefully, y'all see me as nicer though!😂(plus, let's be honest, the Odyssey is romantic af and OdyPen is right up my alley as well >:D )
I really hate the whole "he's a guy so therefore ____" whether it's used as a "Boys will be boys. they can't help themselves" usually aimed at female victims or a "Men always want sex. they cannot be victims.". It's fucked up and used against ALL of us. :( Doesn't matter if it was history. People, no matter the era, should never be put through "Are you Victim™ enough?". He is one.
Idk the Odyssey means a lot to me. I hope it's okay I take some liberties with my fanfics as it's nice healing through him :D I AM kind of using my own experiences and ideas and it feels nice. I don't think Homer necessarily meant for this but eh, anything that helps is good :D He's a war criminal that I relate to.

Tbh, I actually kinda dislike the plot line where Calypso and Circe both.. well.. y'know—harm Odysseus in a way he doesn't like. Both in the idea of that being true for Epic: The Musical, and also The Odyssey. I can explain my reasons on why if anyone wants to hear why I kind of dislike it. And why I am sort of more pleased with the fact that Epic didn't make either Calypso or Circe seem evil.
I understand representation is important to people, but after finding out what I found out that the reasons were for Circe and Calypso doing what they did in the Odyssey (which I can say if anyone would like me to explain), I don't think I really like it. Especially as a victim of SA myself. So as much as the idea of finding representation in Odysseus is pleasing, I dislike the way it was handled in the Odyssey.
TW FOR SA, MISOGNY, ANCIENT GREEK MISOGNY, WHAT I PERSONALLY SEE AS BAD SA REPRESENTATION, VICTIM BLAMING, ETC
The reasons I heard behind Circe and Calypso doing what they did was apparently something along the lines of this:
So, back in Ancient Greece, there were actually plenty of stories where women or female figures did things of the sort. The story where someone makes a guy's step mother fall in love with him, and then try to frame him for assault when he (understandably) rejects her. The story where Aphrodite gets mad at Neritis for refusing to go out of the water with her and turns him into a shrimp (Also because he turned her offer of wings down). Aphrodite falling in love with a young boy in one story. There's definitely more with female figures doing similar things, and while it could be considered representation, there's also a reason why this happens a lot in these stories.
Apparently, women back then were always seen as emotional and weak, or—as conniving and manipulative whores who wanted nothing more than to sleep with a man. This was why women often did what they did in these sorts of stories, or were treated the way they were. Penelope was treated awfully in the Odyssey, or at least harshly—just for understandably being emotional over Odysseus still not being back. Helen was apparently given a line where she openly pities Paris despite him kidnapping her and taking her from Menelaus. Aphrodite was often depicted as temperamental and eager to be with others already (often having many romantic tales with the other Gods)—so she was usually a victim of being depicted like a villain. There are many more, but I'd like to say why I personally view Calypso and Circe being depicted the way they are in the Odyssey as slightly bad.
For one, Circe (if I remember correctly) wanted to sleep with Odysseus for power reasons, given no other personality asides from the fact that she's EVILLLLL and powerful and shit like that. In fact, likely the only reason she sleeps with Odysseus is because women were thought of that way back then if they weren't 'loyal' or 'dependant', so this is probably why she was depicted as an antagonistic figure. Not to mention, Odysseus stays on there for like a year afterward—not because he's trapped, but because he apparently 'enjoys her company' even though she forced him to sleep with her. I know it could be counted as Stolkholm Syndrome, but I doubt the ancient Greeks even knew what the hell that was. If Odysseus was depicted as more of a victim in this situation and was shown to only enjoy Circe's company because she was manipulating him or because he grew attached to her due to being trapped for so long, I'd understand, but I don't know how good of representation it is if the only reason she's being shown this way is because Homer is kind of a misogynist.
As for Calypso, it's sort of the same reasoning with her. Of course, she's trapped and can't leave, but she also likely only takes Odysseus for herself because again—women apparently wanna sleep with men because they're all conniving whores! She's even shown to apparently wanna make him immortal so she can be with him forever, but is given no personality other than 'she polite but also evil and evil and evil and maybe sadistic?????? She evil'. Not to mention, she laughs in the face of his tears at some point. Odysseus is shown to not enjoy his time on the Isle at all, understandably. But even if he doesn't enjoy her company (I think he's polite to her at one point at least, but I don't think that counts as feeling an attachment to her) openly here—I don't think it counts as 'good' representation. Calypso even apparently fucking kills herself in some tales after he leaves because she's so broken by not being able to sleep with him/romance him. She definitely does seem like she could be a good antagonist, if not for thr fact that the only reason she was depicted this way was because Homer thought a woman being in some position of power must mean she's EVILLLLLLL ( I think I even remember he calls Aphrodite weak as fuck in The Illiad despite her being a goddess of war as well and depicted her flying off crying like a baby when Diomedes stabbed her, and I also remember in a tale I think that he wrote as well—that Artemis was depicted being beaten up by Hera and sent off crying to Zeus because Artemis was being 'immature' and bratty to Hera, while Apollo was shown being more mature).
I understand representation is important, and it's fine to like Odysseus as representation if it bring you comfort, but knowing the reasons behind it, I personally don't like it as a victim myself. Perhaps I can maybe write it in a way I'd like since representation is important, but I think the only way it could be depicted better is if the only reason they were depicted that way wasn't because they were women who weren't dependant on anyone and weren't loyal to anyone.
I personally like them both more in Epic because they're given an actual personality, not depicted as evil because they're both women, and are given their own arcs. Circe is shown to be powerful and badass, motherly, but also sly and manipulative and clearly intelligent—being protective of her Nymphs and all. While Calypso is shown to be child-like, unintentionally manipulative at times, immature, bubbly, 'sweet', etc. I understand why some are critical of how they're shown in Epic, but I honestly think it's better this way after Homer kinda treated them. Not to mention, both Calypso and Circe are actual goddesses. I started worshipping Lady Calypso yesterday actually. Paganism and Hellenism are both still very much a thing. So I think I'm allowed to not like how The Odyssey depicts my goddess and even King Odysseus at times (I'm a devotee of him). This is sort of why I gravitate to re-tellings of both goddesses more, since they're often given more motivations and personality and shown not just as evil—but as complex. Perhaps this is why I actually like feminist re-tellings of my religions tales—because of what I know about the reasons behind why female figures are shown doing the things they do in Ancient Greece.
If anyone has arguments against this, or has evidence proving the 'they're only shown this way cuz they're women' claim wrong, I'd be willing to listen. But this is why I don't like it myself. I know how important Odysseus is to some people, especially male victims, so I'd like to listen if I might be totally wrong about all this. Understand I'm not trying to fight. I just want to share why I don't like it.
I personally like Antinous as representation more myself. Him and the suitors apparently hurt the Maids in that way in the Odyssey (they were made to just hurt Penelope in Epic for time reasons or something like that since the maids weren't that important of characters or shown at all during the songs—I'm sort of happy though, since the maids were killed off by Odysseus and Telemachus for it afterward if I remember correctly—please correct me if I'm wrong), but were changed to just hurt Penelope. I like the way it's shown because Penelope clearly has more depth other than being a 'victim' judging by The Challenge, and isn't blamed in any way for what happened and isn't shown as 'bad' for 'letting herself get assaulted' or as some 'conniving whore'. Maybe I gravitate to it more since I'm a female victim and have been hurt by more men than women, and maybe that's why I fucking hate Antinous so much, but I like how it's shown in Epic more since it's clearly written well. I don't think Antinous & The Suitors assaulting the maids in the Odyssey is written well since some of the maids are literally killed off for what happened to them. But I do like how Antinous & The Suitors are depicted in Epic more since it feels like actual representation instead of women yet again suffering at the hands of being shown as EVILLLL for being powerful or shown as innocent wittle victims who are overly emotional and dependant.
But, if anyone wants to argue against how Antinous is shown in Epic, I don't mind discussing this with someone.
Again, this is my personal opinion as a survivor myself, so I'd like to hear others out if they have their own arguments against this. Male victims are just as important as female victims too, and I personally like male victim representation as well. I just don't like how Odysseus is shown in The Odyssey. And I don't think I'd like it in Epic if he were implied to have been assaulted by them at all due to me not liking it in the Odyssey, unless it was actually written well and not with the intent of making them look bad cuz 'powerful women EVILLLL'.
Thanks for reading this, if you did./gen

some tbosas modern au headcanons, mostly just the pack tbh, some of them are ooc but uh… shush
gonna be real with u, some of the headcanons r like partially stolen from other ppls fanfics or posts that ive read so if u see something on this list that u came up with plz dont be angry or anything i just stole it cuz it was cool💔
family headcanons🎉
——————————
coral and mizzen r half siblings with the same dad, mizzen lives with coral, her mom, and their dad bc his mom is dead 🎀 mizzen has a cat that he’s keeping secret from their parents, gee sure this wont turn out to be a big disaster in one of the fics im writing
dill and reaper r cousins, they live in the same house bc reapers mother wouldn’t let him come back to live with her after he got out of juvie or something i haven’t put too much thought into this, other than them the people in the household r their grandparents, dills parents, and dills older siblings, as well as two dogs
treech lives with his parents, grandmother, and his siblings, hes the middle child tragically. dont have a whole lot of thought put into this one ngl, i dont think about treech very much
lamina lives next door to treech, she lives with her dad, and like three cats, her mom died when she was younger and her relationship with her dad is pretty strained since
tanner and brandy r twins, brandy’s older, they have two younger sisters, their parents should definitely be divorced but they won’t fsr. on their farm they have a few chickens, a herd of cows, and two horses
lucy gray obvs lives with the covey, her parents r still dead tho I’m not sure quite what killed them in this universe but its not that important. idk if they have confirmed ages but i made barb azure the oldest. barb azures gf is over to their home so frequently that she doesn’t even bother knocking b4 coming in
teslee lives with her mother, and two older siblings, she took over the garage for her projects, one time her sibling tried to park their car in the garage and she screamed at them for thirty minutes bc they knocked over one of her drones 🎀
circ is teslees cousin, he lives with his parents and siblings, two older, one younger, also haven’t put a whole lot of thought into him and teslee bc i only recently realized how silly they were 💔
bobbin and wovey r cousins, wovey and her older brother moved in with bobbin and his parents after their parents died. bobbin takes his job of protecting his little cousin at school very seriously, they’re very close
alrighttt i haven’t thought about any of the other tributes enough so we’re gonna move on to regular various headcanons 🫶
————————————
coral needs glasses to read bc shes farsighted (whattt me? projecting? nooo never)
lamina always wanted a little sibling but never got one so she borrows corals 🫶 mizzen doesn’t mind being assigned a second older sister except for when lamina tries to get him to let her do his makeup (a well placed bribe of candy can convince him to let her on occasion, treech saved a picture for blackmail 🎀)
the pack as a friend group includes lamina and brandy, lamina and coral get along pretty well in this universe
if mizzen decides you have wronged him he will never forget about it, he still brings up the time treech accidentally hit him in the face with a door like four years later
teslee, dill, and circ have been friends since elementary school, they haven’t been in any classes together since sixth grade tho bc teslee and circ r both in advanced classes and dill is in remedial english bc of her undiagnosed dyslexia
mizzen is a weird kid, he’s been bullied pretty much since he started going to school, this leads him to get in a fights, which is why he was expelled from his first middle school 🎀
dill and mizzen have remedial english together bc both of them r dyslexic
sejanus’s ma teaches english and remedial english at their school
coral is the captain of her schools swim team
reaper and coral aren’t exactly friends but if they run into each other they’ll chat
mizzen and dill both thought the other hated them when they first met
cc takes orchestra a bit too seriously, if he hears u refer to a viola as a violin or something he may jump u
bobbin is in robotics with circ which is how they met, bobbin was once asked to sit out of a robotics competition bc he was too competitive and started swearing at the other team when they accidentally broke off a piece of his teams robot
teslee is in advanced english with cc, cc loves creative writing and teslee likes analyzing books. teslee and cc are friends but that all goes out the window when it comes to their grade in this class, teslee gets very upset when he gets a better grade than her on an assignment and cc has that little brother tendency to tease her when this happens. they aren’t allowed to sit beside each other anymore
mizzen and teslee have beef but they have to tolerate each other bc they’re both close friends with dill
coral has mommy issues bc her mom’s lowkey a narcissist and refuses to get therapy for the generational trauma shes passing on to coral and mizzen 🎀
brandy is the fastest to crash out when someones bothering her, if she doesn’t like you she will make sure yk and she will start throwing hands with no warning
teslee secured an internship with beetee for during her freshman year next year and she won’t stop talking about it
mizzen doesn’t believe in sunscreen
reaper loves painting flowers, he keeps his watercolor palette on his person at all times
the pack all borrow each others clothes
coral had a huge crush on persephone at one point but she never said anything and their friendship started to fade
mizzen does NOT know how to care for himself, his skin is sun damaged, his lips are perpetually cracked, his hair is outrageously dry from how much time he spends in salt water
coral is a barista
dill and reapers family are the caretakers for a graveyard, they live in a house in the graveyard and reaper helps to dig the graves, dill’s embarrassed of living in a grave yard and has never invited anyone to her house b4
wovey likes making friendship bracelets, all of her friends have at least four bracelets by this point
dill’s that one friend whos out of school sick like every other week, one time she had to be hospitalized and mizzen skipped school to come hang out with her
bobbin likes sewing, he makes outfits for mizzens cat sometimes
mizzen has braces
i have more but i can’t remember them so i may reblog this with more later, hope u enjoyed :3
