@surikane and I had a joint medievalcore birthday party this year ! I made this little jester costume very loosely based on various 15th century illustrations, with some appliqués and quilting that are not quite of the period.... We chose the colours based on the heraldry of our hometowns. The little boar bell is for the eastern zodiac sign we share.
Here it is from mockup to party !

will dig in and research more later (this probably isn’t perfect accuracy-wise) but:

Simplest explanation: electrode go zap zap so hard it fucking liquifies giant vats of steel (or other metal). I’ll explain a bit more as I go alone. Run now if you don’t want industrial processes described vaguely akin to reproductive biology in fairly invasive ways.
-electric arc furnace Krupp is nice and fat and round because he needs lots of insulation (to not fucking incinerate people) and energy (because this process uses a ton of energy) and the round cylinder/hemisphere shape is just standard for them anyways. He’s fully fantasy mechanical btw no cursed Shed 17 cyborg stuff here (unless you really want even MORE cursed body horror).
-not sure on energy supply, “invisible catenary” convention is passable for something much smaller than mill-scale. Giant goddamn transformer and cables are mandatory for aesthetics alone because dear god. The cable equivalent of those giant veins dairy cows have due to the sheer amount of energy these things draw, they’re even actively cooled! Yeah the enormous insulators on his costume make too much sense now and tbh I wonder if it WAS deliberate.
-lined with (usually ceramic) refractory bricks that can withstand the heat and corrosive materials involved. They inevitably take damage with each heat (no seriously that’s an actual term used for this) and he periodically had to be shut down to have them examined and fixed. They’re very sensitive to any intruding water and if they take too much damage metal can melt/burn him from the inside and lead to catastrophic failure. Water leaks from his cooling system are also very dangerous because even tiny amounts turning to steam inside can lead to explosions. His job is very hazardous and there’s only so much you can do about it besides make sure he’s healthy. The good news is they’ll rebuild a lot of lesser damage.
-Needs a fair amount of TLC and inspection in general done by someone else. It’s a very tender, intimate process that requires a lot of comfort and trust. He has lots of fault sensors but needs to be checked out internally for refractory (heat resistant ceramic) lining condition and any water leaks from his cooling system. Of course that’s done through the Krussy. It’s not quite realistic but tbh I don’t know how I’d make the actual arm on EAFs work on him besides cracking his chest open or a side hatch or something. There’s also the slag door at the back where the oxides and byproducts that collect on top of the metal get emptied. Depending on how old timey you go, there can be seperate thermometers people stick up there. I can’t make this stuff up lmao.
-He careful ingests (or is fed) the right mix of scrap and new iron until the chemistry is right, the melts it with MASSIVE electrodes inside. It’s only a bit at first, but he’ll be stuffed nice and full for maximum efficiency and then melt all that down too. Lots of temperature and chemistry sampling ensues and he gets extra oxygen or various additives to change the properties as needed. Proper slag formation is important and he gets supplements for that, needs to draw out impurities from the actual steel and it helps him heat more efficiently.
-being at full heat is exhausting and uncomfortable to him because he’s hot and swollen and heavy and slowly burning from the inside out. cue cartoon awooga klaxons as warning before TAPPING. liquid fucking steel pours out of the Krussy and YAY the heat is done. Tipping backwards clears out the slag on top, until mostly empty. He’ll keep some inside if he’s going to run another cycle soon.
-aw shit I forgot to mention the ungodly amounts of dust that gives you cancer or the carbon monoxide and other horrible gases involved. I haven’t figure out where to fit that stuff yet.
-Instead of gushing molten metal out I think the continuous casting diagram is another fun Krussy idea. That is a goddamn gauntlet to try to fist. Or something that results in popping out toy train bodies.
-in conclusion yeah his design makes total sense because this is one of the “manliest” jobs but just. heats. slag doors. a dangerous job that creates life (stuff trains are made from).

clamshell door on electric arc furnaces. The stripes are there because MOLTEN METAL comes out. or perhaps just hot cast toy train bodies like tin/lead molds.

No, actually, i want cables and not bluetooth, i don't want touchscreens, i want buttons and knobs, i want to be able to take the battery out of my phone, i want to charge my phone and plug in head phones at the same time, i want a cd drive in my laptop and not have to buy an external drive, i want a car without a display, i want to turn on the lights with a switch not with my voice, i want to have a paper cinema ticket not a QR code, i want to listen to illegally burned music on a 00s cd player, i want to watch movies that i actually own, i want to read news once a day on paper, i want to aimlessly flick through magazines and not doomscroll on social media, i want to write emails and not talk to chatbots, i want to own stuff without hundreds of digital subscriptions, i want
