OK OK OK
In "Survive" we get an eerie chant of Polyphemus' name. In "Ruthlessness" we get it for Poseidon.
Odysseus's enemies (the ones he doesn't make peace with, like Circe and Calypso, might I add) have songs by their names, with the exception of Poseidon. "Polyphemus," "Scylla," "Charybdis."
Then, in Song 38, titled "Odysseus," we get one titled after him and with an eerie chant of his name.
Know what this means? He's the enemy, he's in the wrong. He is the monster.

Forgive me for the person I will become when the Ithaca saga drops. It’s not my fault that my favorite part of the myth is when Odysseus slaughters all of the horrible suitors for his wife which in my opinion is one of the sexiest things a husband can do to someone who is harassing their spouse.

I just noticed that all the monsters in Epic have their names in the titles of their songs (Like Polyphemus, Scylla and the upcoming song Charybidis)
And there is another upcoming song, from the Ithaca saga, previously named "King", but now it is named "Odysseus". This song portrays Odysseus killing the suitors in the palace, showing that ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves.
All the monsters in Epic have their names in the title of their songs.

So I’ve already talked about how I think Odysseus should Reprise Polyphemus as he is killing the suitors.
But I truly believe he is going to reprise every monster he’s faced on his journey home.
When you listen to the snippet of “King” on TikTok, you hear the same background singing as in “Survive” but faster. When I first heard it in “Survive” I thought they were chanting “Polyphemus” but now I have no idea. Maybe it’s the same. Anyway that’s monster #1.
Second, also in that clip, the suitors say “He’s aiming for the torches.” Scylla, monster #2, check. (Also he rhymed torches with approaches, which is also a call back to Scylla’s song)
He’s killing the suitors bc they plotted against his son. Ahem. Sounds like villain numero uno: Poseidon.
I’ve mentioned this already, but they also also killed his livestock. Polyphemus + Zeus.
He’s also defending the Penelope from the suitors being…yk, licentious usurpers. (The kind of men that make women choose the bear) Sounds like Miss Circe.
He is literally a sum of all the monsters and foes he’s faced already. Maybe we see some reference to the Sirens or other baddies too, but I think “King” is going to be about 1 thing:
He’s become the monster.

So I’ve been listening to the snippets of act 2 that Jorge’s been releasing on youtube as he writes them and I genuinely think that the Ithaca Saga would heal me. Just. Everything about me. Anxiety? Gone. Depression? Don’t know her. My skin? Clear. My crops? Watered. Lingering childhood trauma? What trauma? What childhood?? I’m fixed. It will actually genuinely literally fix me. It would heal my soul.

Let the arrow fly
When you know that your aim is true
'Cause I’d rather die than grow old
Without the best of you
— The Challenge, from EPIC: The Ithaca Saga
Part 1 💍
Part 2 🦚
Part 3 ⬆️
Today’s Feligami February prompt will be covered in a Gasoline chapter. Have an EPIC web weave instead, because lately I’ve been thinking about these two as Odysseus and Penelope a lot. 🏹
I used a sunset picture I took for the background, because it made me think of Representation!
Precious kiddos… ❤️🐉💜🦚

it is written in the odyssey that Odysseus killed the suitors butt naked, asscheeks flapping in the wind. when the Ithaca saga comes around, I expect to see animatics and fanart of him killing suitors with a really poor censor and blood on his face.

What's your take on Odysseus's trauma and recovery back in Ithaca?
*looks at all the comics I made*
Lol but really, I realistically expect it to be severely rocky. He’ll have good days, mostly bad days, but what keeps him grounded is of course his family, you know?
But imagine losing your entire fleet under your command...

...only to come back to an entire population of thousands of people, expecting that you will lead them.
What if he fails again?
