Slight Epic spoilers but we all know the song “would you fall in love with me again?”
We know Odysseus can barely even acknowledge who he is, let alone like himself. And we know Penelope’s going to love him anyways, despite the atrocities, but
What if she didn’t?
What if, after 20 years without this man whom she loves, she feels so much relief to see him again. But as it sets in, and relief fades, it’s replaced with…what?
Love?
Does she love him any more? She’s lived a lifetime without him, and now that he’s back, he’s an entirely different man. Riddled with trauma responses and PTSD, guilt and empathy beaten out of him, and ruthlessness burned into his soul. No longer young. No longer tender.
Does she still love him?

OK OK OK
In "Survive" we get an eerie chant of Polyphemus' name. In "Ruthlessness" we get it for Poseidon.
Odysseus's enemies (the ones he doesn't make peace with, like Circe and Calypso, might I add) have songs by their names, with the exception of Poseidon. "Polyphemus," "Scylla," "Charybdis."
Then, in Song 38, titled "Odysseus," we get one titled after him and with an eerie chant of his name.
Know what this means? He's the enemy, he's in the wrong. He is the monster.

Forgive me for the person I will become when the Ithaca saga drops. It’s not my fault that my favorite part of the myth is when Odysseus slaughters all of the horrible suitors for his wife which in my opinion is one of the sexiest things a husband can do to someone who is harassing their spouse.

What if the Ithaca Saga, the end of "Would you fall in love with me" ended with Odysseus exhaling "I can relax, my friend" in the same note Polites ended open arms?
What would y'all do THEN?
(Changed a bit of the idea from mrs_superwholock92's tiktok video about the same concept :D)

So I’ve already talked about how I think Odysseus should Reprise Polyphemus as he is killing the suitors.
But I truly believe he is going to reprise every monster he’s faced on his journey home.
When you listen to the snippet of “King” on TikTok, you hear the same background singing as in “Survive” but faster. When I first heard it in “Survive” I thought they were chanting “Polyphemus” but now I have no idea. Maybe it’s the same. Anyway that’s monster #1.
Second, also in that clip, the suitors say “He’s aiming for the torches.” Scylla, monster #2, check. (Also he rhymed torches with approaches, which is also a call back to Scylla’s song)
He’s killing the suitors bc they plotted against his son. Ahem. Sounds like villain numero uno: Poseidon.
I’ve mentioned this already, but they also also killed his livestock. Polyphemus + Zeus.
He’s also defending the Penelope from the suitors being…yk, licentious usurpers. (The kind of men that make women choose the bear) Sounds like Miss Circe.
He is literally a sum of all the monsters and foes he’s faced already. Maybe we see some reference to the Sirens or other baddies too, but I think “King” is going to be about 1 thing:
He’s become the monster.

EPIC the musical is, in reality, a multiple choice test taken by Odysseus.
The options for each question are:
Mansplain
Manipulate
Malewife
Manslaughter
Manwhore
Based on his decisions so far...

Ok, ok, ok.
I’ve just seen a comic (closed the app without reblogging and now it’s lost, will link if find again) of Odysseus showing the bed he craved into the tree to Penelope for the first time, telling her to close her eyes, to not peek.
It was so cute.
But now, I have an idea for the scene of recognition, when she’s testing him.
The song would be called « Remember when » and she brings back memories, and he answers by « I remember when » and he adds details.
And then she asks for the bed to be brought, and he goes « Penelope, don’t you remember when carved that bed inside a tree we could not move.. » and goes into describing the bed.
And yes. The title sounding close to « Remember them » is on purpose. Cause now, he has other memories to think about, he can reminisce about happiness instead of all the comrades who died.
Edit: thanks to @loracarol I found it!

So… does anyone wanna see my favorite frames of the Epic the Musical animatic I’m currently working on so far? Its only like 1/3 done and I’m not posting it until I get HQ audio of the song, but this is going to be the first animatic I actually finish and I’m pretty proud so far.

What if in some point at the Ithaca saga, the Ithacans harmonize with Odysseus, the staff or people from the island. Since now he'll have company, alive Ithacans.
Not his dead crew.

can i just. take this moment to acknowledge how terrifying Hold Them Down is, especially when Ayron sings it ...
(like, Jay's version was SO SCARY, but Ayron's voice ... he may be one of the sweetest people irl, but his voice fits Antinous so well. it literally gives me chills every time. the casting is perfection)
anyway. back to what i was saying.
TW: GORE, DEATH, ... s.a. but i barely mentioned it because ew
first you have these suitors singing about how they're done with waiting, done with these schemes ... and how it's time for them to take control. that's frightening enough.
and then you have the absolutely bone-chilling line of "hold him down, while i slit his throat / hold him down while i slowly break his pride, his trust, his faith, and his bones", said in pure evil and rage, but it sounds so eager, so bloodthirsty, because Antinous is finally getting what he wants. which is Telemachus's slow and painful death.
and then it goes "throw him down in the great below" — just tossing him into the ocean without giving him a proper burial, so that his soul may wander, never finding peace.
that's sinister enough, and has literally given me nightmares. and that's not even the end of the song.
"when the crown wonders where the prince is, only the ocean and i will know" — which gives a feeling of ... twisted triumph, i guess. it's like Antinous is thinking, he's gone. now ... it's your turn.
and i'm not gonna talk about the last part of the song too much because hhhhhhhhhhh BUT i will say this:
Antinous's lines are so well-juxtaposed with the music, because first of all, those lyrics are. no. just no. no. nope. no. and second, he sings it with this passion, this maliciousness, since he finally won.
meanwhile, the background music sounds SO POWERLESS, because it's almost like the music is penelope.
remember that guitar in Love in Paradise? how it was so high-pitched, delicate, almost ready to break?
think of the viola in that part of Hold Them Down. doesn't it sound so similar?
Antinous has finally gotten what he has wanted for so long. and he will not let any part go to waste.
and UGH THAT SOUNDS SO SO SO WRONG BECAUSE IT IS SO EVIL AND DISGUSTING AND—
AGH THIS IS LITERALLY ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS EVER BUT IT IS PAINFUL TO LISTEN TO.
Jay when i catch you Jay WHEN I CATCH YOU—
i can't wait for this song asdhfalskh but also, i'll never be ready for it
