I have 52 fics on AO3. My longest fic is over 84k words long. My average story length (taking out the 84k and >1k word outliers) is 6k. My median oneshot length is about 3k. My median chaptered story is about 30k.

I have an additional 8 stories on FFN that I never ported to AO3.

Every last one was exclusively written as an adult with a full-time job.

Honestly? It's the same as any hobby (such as adults lamenting their long To Play or To Read or To Watch or To Craft lists). If you prioritize it, then it's possible to write and work. Some people just have other priorities, and that's okay.

I am currently dealing with mental health issues, so socializing and consuming media to help alleviate that is my current priority. Which is why I only posted 3 stories this year (and nothing since June). When I was in a better headspace and could prioritize my writing? I was uploading a new fic monthly.

It also depends on the job. Some are mentally draining, and I can understand one's inspiration being tapped. Others thrive on that frustration and use their writing as an escape. I have done best with my current job, which has a lot of downtime. So I can write at work and/or have enough mental spoons left at the end of the day to curl up in a corner somewhere and write after work.

Point is, I get WHY OP's friend thinks the way they do, especially if they're a fellow writer frustrated at not finding time to write. But it IS 100% possible.

Reblog if you are employed / have a full time job and are a fanfic writer who still actively writes and posts new chapters / new works.

My friend says you can’t be an adult, have a full time job and be a fanfic writer at the same time, because you’ll have to sacrifice your writing, fandom activities, for your career. And I just… don’t think that’s the case? At all? Unless I’m missing something? Unless I’m doing it wrong by being employed and still writing fanfics?

I’ve got my tumblr inbox turned off so I really have to commend the person who actually emailed me to let me know they don’t like the things I’ve posted about the UnitedHealth CEO being murdered on their commitment to their beliefs.

But seen as how you emailed me from a dud email that appears to be bouncing back replies and I really wanted to address something you said to me about violence begetting violence:

My migraine medication, the medication I was given for my debilitating neurological disease that has gotten so bad I spent most of this year actively suicidal, costs $1300 a month.

My insurance covered it. But only because my doctors office went to fucking war for me because I’m a high anaphylaxis risk for the drugs the insurance wanted me to try.

Because that’s the thing.

My doctors knew, based on my documented medical history, I likely wouldn’t be a good fit for the “first line” of preventative migraine drugs, but because of insurance, I had to be given drugs that were contradictory to my other life threatening conditions, because otherwise insurance wouldn’t cover anything else.

I failed them. Spectacularly and with an anaphylactic reaction to one of them. And I was still warned insurance would fight me because I hadn’t tried the remaining drug they wanted me to try.

A drug which I would have to take in an ER waiting room because my mast cell disease is unpredictable but insurance wouldn’t cover in-patient treatment to let me try it safely under medical supervision.

Is that not violence?

Were all the times I was denied coverage for vital and necessary procedures that could have prevented my disabilities from worsening not violence?

Maybe not in the sense you mean. But I assure you it felt very much like violence to me.

Do I condone murder? No, obviously. But I’m also sick and tired of people pretending that what is happening to the American people every day isn’t eugenics through class warfare.

Violence begets violence.

It sure fucking does.

Maybe these insurance companies should have thought of that first.

The first part reminded me of the short story The Egg by Andy Weir.

Yeah so, reincarnation is real, but when they started this whole operation they only made like a billion souls for all the living creatures on earth. yeah it's not a super big deal because souls are trans-temporal so they can just reincarnate backwards or forwards depending on what's needed but it does mean at any given moment in time there are 120 beetles, 98 dandelions, 43 tetra fish, 12 tree frogs, 6 spiders, 3 poison ivy plants, 2 mice, 2 house cats, an elephant shrew, a crayfish, a crow, a raccoon, a poodle, a turkey vulture, a goat, a donkeys, a binturong, 2 fig trees, a jackal, a dolphin, an alligator, a hyena, a bison, a giraffe, a turkey vulture and 8 humans who are all just overlapping incarnations of you. sorry.
