PSA to my fellow artists!!!
With the holidays fast approaching it appears this specific commission scam is making its rounds again.
Below is a conversation I will be posting to help you all know what to look out for:
So this account reached out to me under one of my recent posts. My first safeguard against scams like this (and just so I know the preferences of my ACTUAL clients) is to check the account that is messaging me:
FIRST RED FLAG: No posts. No description. Default background, generic, probably stolen pfp. Robot City (But you all know this by now)
Now, I was like, 99% sure this was a scam right here. (shout out to that one twitter thread I read a few months ago. It helped me clock this account immediately)
But I decided to humor them on the off chance that this person just doesn't understand Tumblr culture. (please, please do not do this. I am petty and insane)
RED FLAG #2: Notice the lack of references: asking me to draw something and then not sending any reference materials (something I explicitly state on my commissions spreadsheet).
This is a topic they will try to avoid (as you will see below), and ultimately what made them realize that I wasn't worth the effort. Always, always, always require references and style guides for any commission you get. Scammers' main goal is to spend as little energy as possible. they will not bother giving these to you.
Now onto Red Flag #3:
Notice how they immediately aim for the most expensive option (which, for my commissions, happens to be fully rendered furry content). This is a red flag because not ONCE did they mention this was going to be anything other than a portrait. This is when I knew 100% it was a scam.
RED FLAG #4: Asking for personal information. I am begging you. I am begging, never EVER, EVER give out your personal information online. ALWAYS use a pseudonym. Change the subject. Do literally anything else. just DON'T. GIVE. THAT. INFORMATION. AWAY.
AND RED FLAG #5: Offering WAY more than I am asking for my services. Remember, kids: if something is too good to be true, it probably is!
it is here that you are going to want to block and report this account. Do Not Be Me. I am begging you. I am doing this for educational purposes. However. I have one more red flag for you guys:
RED FLAG #6: Now, this very generous (/s) person is offering me $300 WHOLE DOLLARS just to draw a furry for them! That's so incredibly thoughtful!
...so why do they not care about the species, color, accessories, pose...ANYTHING about it? (It's because they don't care. They're not gonna pay you the money.)
Look, I can understand how flattering it is to be given full creative freedom on a commission, but you have to understand that this will almost never, EVER, happen to you. I'm sorry. It's the truth.
Anyways. That's all I got for you. Do me a favor, go ahead and block/report @mlaurel any any other cronies they're affiliated with. Also reblog this post if you feel so inclined. Keep your information safe. Get that bank! And Happy (safe) Holidays!

If they can't pay through a normal channel they're a scammer 99.99% of the time.
Sorry for double posting but APPARENTLY those commission scammers have showed up on Tumblr at least for the first time for me.
For those who donât know what I am talking about, there were/are commission scams going on in Instagram and even places like Artstation where people would pretend to be interested in your work and try to commission a pet or portrait for the sake of trying to get your bank details. Hereâs how to (somewhat) sniff them out:
1- They donât seem to be an average customer/ person that would be involved in your fandom, or has a blank template for an account or donât even follow you.
2- They ask you to draw a portrait or a pet picture either for themselves or their children/family.
3- They promise to overpay you (in the hundreds) and do not listen to you even if you firmly state the price is cheaper.
4- They are constantly asking for your email name, or private details regarding things like banking details or passwords or other private information others should not know.
5- They try and over reassure you they mean no harm, try to guilt you into giving them the info, or become aggressive over you not giving them what they want.
What should you do if you come across one of these guys? My best advice is to block and report. Sadly these people jump account to account so there isnât really much to do other than spread this info to prevent artists from being scammed.

Dear artists: Please be aware of the art commission scam!
Hi everyone! I'm Bee.
I document scams on my side blog @scam-alerts.
With Christmas fast approaching I want to make sure as many artists as possible are made aware of the current art commission scam going on right now on tumblr.
If you didn't know there was a scam going on, please see this post:
and also see this second post too! Which talks about how they're accepting an artists commission prices, but the scam, in and of itself, is still basically the same.
Even if you're not an artist, please consider sharing this post (or the ones linked above) so others can be made more aware of this. Losing money to scammers can be a huge blow to ones drive to create art, and it can hugely impact someone financially for months if not years to come.
Happy holidays!

Scammer pretending to be in Palestine v2
This post has been remade with better info! Please go to this one:
Got an ask from someone claiming to be in Palestine needing mutual aid? Unfortunately there is a scammer going around and itâs likely the ask you got sent is the same one being sent by multiple accounts who target users interacting with Palestine posts. These blogs use the text/images off a real fundraiser and then post it here pretending to be the person itâs made for. Their accounts are usually only a few days old and they donât interact beyond the ask/follow. Lately they might make the link to their PayPal account in different colors or claim their GoFundMe is pending so you will assume the real one is theirs. They donât have any GoFundMeâs set up. They steal from them. If you need proof of something being stolen, searching the text of their post in a search engine should pull up the source. If you know how to report PayPal accounts, please report those used by the scammers.
(Moved to new list)
Below is a growing list of fake/stolen names used across the accounts:
Nour Samar | maryline lucy | Fred Odhiambo | Jeff Owino | Valentine Nakuti | Conslata Obwanga | JACINTA SITATI | David Okoth | MartĂn Mutugi | Daudi Likuyani | William Ngonyo | Fred Agy | George Ochieng | BONFACE ODHIAMBO | Sila Keli | John Chacha | benson komen | Alvin Omondi | Jacinta Sitati | Daudi Likuyani | Noah Keter | Faith Joram | Rawan AbuMahady (any PayPalâs using this name are scammers who have stolen it off a real GoFundMe. The real person does not have a PayPal account that they post on tumblr.) | Asnet Wangila | Remmy Cheptau
Keep in mind this post isnât saying all accounts asking for mutual aid in Palestine are scams. Rather, this post is meant to bring awareness of a scammer stealing money from those who really need it by pretending to be a person in Palestine. To report scams, use this:
Report -> Something else -> Illegal uses or Content -> Phishing

Someone accessed my Gmail 2 days ago, compromising my linked accounts like Twitter and YouTube. Here's how it happened, why I fell for it, and what you can learn to avoid making the same mistake:
The scam I fell victim to was a cookie hijack. The hacker used malicious software to steal my browser cookies (stuff like autofill, auto sign in, etc), allowing them to sign in to my Gmail and other accounts, completely bypassing my 2FA and other security protocols.
A few days ago, I received a DM from @Rachael_Borrows, who claimed to be a manager at @Duolingo. The account seemed legitimate. It was verified, created in 2019, and had over 1k followers, consistent with other managers Iâd seen at the time n I even did a Google search of this person and didnt find anything suspicious.
She claimed that @Duolingo wanted me to create a promo video, which got me excited and managed to get my guard down. After discussing I was asked to sign a contract and at app(.)fastsigndocu(.)com. If you see this link, ITS A SCAM! Do NOT download ANY files from this site.
Unfortunately, I downloaded a file from the website, and it downloaded without triggering any firewall or antivirus warnings. Thinking it was just a PDF, I opened it. The moment I did, my console and Google Chrome flashed. Thatâs when I knew I was in trouble. I immediately did an antivirus scan and these were some of the programs it found that were added to my PC without me knowing:
The thing about cookie hijacking is that it completely bypasses 2FA which should have been my strongest line of defense. I was immediately signed out of all my accounts and within a minute, they changed everything: passwords, 2FA, phone, recovery emails, backup codes, etc.
I tried all methods but hit dead ends trying to recover them. Thankfully, my Discord wasnât connected, so I alerted everyone I knew there. I also had an alternate account, @JLCmapping, managed by a friend, which I used to immediately inform @/TeamYouTube about the situation
Meanwhile, the hackers turned my YouTube channel into a crypto channel and used my Twitter account to spam hundreds of messages, trying to use my image and reputation to scam more victims
Thankfully, YouTube responded quickly and terminated the channel. Within 48 hours, they locked the hacker out of my Gmail and restored my access. They also helped me recover my channel, which has been renamed to JoetasticOfficial since Joetastic_ was no longer available.
Since then, Iâve taken several steps to secure my accounts and prevent this from happening again. This has been a wake-up call to me, and now I am more cautious around people online. I hope sharing it helps others avoid falling victim to similar attacks. (End)
(side note) Around this time, people also started to impersonate me on TikTok and YouTube. With my accounts terminated, anyone searching for "Joetastic" would only find the imposter's profiles. Iâm unsure whether they are connected or if itâs just an unfortunate coincidence, but it made the situation even more stressful.

Which now makes me think more - when people accuse each other being paedos or other crimes, we must thoroughly research n do our best to verify these crimes before we judge. This is NOT saying that we should simply support someone who is guilty, but we DO need to make sure they truly ARE guilty, before we go ahead and crucify them. There ARE genuine predators out there, and they absolutely DO deserve to be silenced and made an example of to avoid n learn from, but there are MANY INNOCENT people who are being UNFAIRLY targeted by those who have malicious intent.
Since some people want more critical thinking, here you go -
Some of these âwhite knightsâ who harass others even do this to cover up their own guilty consciences and disturbing actions. This can, in fact, be a red flag - especially when they start to garner a cult like following. This blame shifting on an extreme scale, so that they avoid being held accountable, and can continue to get gratification for their actions.
Why do âwhite knightsâ (like the ones harassing me) PURPOSELY avoid facts? Theyre a form of narcissist. Using factual information would undermine their whole plan to seek attention and validation. They want to steal power away from the stronger person to make themselves APPEAR stronger. Using factual information would ruin their ability to draw in supporters, who usually take them at face value in return for their own validation (like dominoes.) in fact, they tend to make one excuse they can milk for attention from others who they know are reliable for it. If you check most of the profiles belonging to those harassing me and their supporters, thereâs a common thread or two. Itâs not because they genuinely care, itâs because they share a general successful agenda for attention seeking. Itâs like fish who are being fed, and all gang together to share the same food.
Did you know that 5% of people in the United States have a narcissistic personality disorder? All of these people are overly focused on their self-esteem issues. In turn, narcissists form strategies that are meant to enhance their poor self-esteem.
Among those individuals are two main types of narcissism: black knight narcissism and white knight narcissism. The distinction between the two lies in whether or not the narcissist is pro-social or anti-social.
To learn more about the differences between black knight narcissists and white knight narcissists, keep reading.
Pro-Social Narcissists vs. Anti-Social Narcissists
In order to evaluate whether or not a narcissist is pro-social or anti-social, you have to ask yourself three things:
What are the narcissistâs intentions?
How do they supply their self-esteem?
What kind of impression does the narcissist want others to have of him/her?
Pro-social narcissists want to help others. They want others to see them as good.
Of course, they want credit and praise for their good deeds. But, they add a lot of value to their friendships and society as a whole.
On the other hand, anti-social narcissists take advantage of others. They exploit othersâ weaknesses for their own personal gain. Overall, they want others to fear them.
At the worst, anti-social narcissists humiliate and berate others. Often, these kinds of narcissists are the toxic, malignant individuals who represent the âtypicalâ narcissist.
The History of White Knights and Black Knights
You may have heard of the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. These knights repeatedly swore to do good deeds for the weak and innocent. In fact, they often called themselves heroes.
In these stories, there were also knights that self-identified as powerful and destructive. They thrived on dominating over the weak and innocent.
Those knights who only worked towards their own personal gain wore all-black armor. Because of their armor, these are the Black Knights.
In contrast, the knights who are offering help are the White Knights.
This story translated into the two main types of narcissists: Black Knights and White Knights. Just like the knights in the story, these different kinds of narcissists are either for or against helping common folks.
The Black Knight Narcissist
Just like with King Arthurâs Knights, the black knight narcissist is focused on defeating everyone else for their own gain. In fact, they thrive on putting others down. It makes them feel better about themselves.
These are the anti-social narcissists. And, some people refer to black knight narcissism as selfish narcissism. (This is even though both forms of narcissism are selfish at the center.)
They donât enjoy helping people, and they may not even believe that these people deserve help. In their minds, everyone else is lesser than they are. And, the narcissist will make sure that they know it.
Black knight narcissists are not inherently evil, although they make come off like this. They donât offer help to individuals in society. But, there is an explanation behind their behavior.
Black knight narcissists have such low self-esteem that they feel like they need to knock everyone else down. By taking everyone else down, they are picking themselves up.
Usually, this behavior draws back to the inner child. Then, they grow into adults with narcissistic behavior.
The White Knight Narcissist
The white knight narcissist is the individual who is contributing to society. They are helping people and bettering society for their own gain. While it is for selfish reasons, their help is great for those around them.
These individuals are pro-social. And, some people refer to white knight narcissism as altruistic narcissism.
At the very heart of it, white knight narcissists are looking to make an impact on the world in return for recognition. They want others to praise them for their good deeds. In the long run, they want to be remembered for everything they did during their lifetime.
You may find these individuals volunteering at food banks, working at hospitals, or contributing to charity. They arenât the typical picture of a narcissistic individual.
While white knight narcissists may not seem harmful, they can be harmful to themselves.
Theyâre contributing to society and benefiting everyone around them, but they are hurting themselves. The individual equates othersâ reactions to their worth.
If someone doesnât say thank you, the white knight narcissist notices. These interactions negatively impact them more than they should.
Similarities Between All Narcissists
Both black knight narcissists and white knight narcissists have much in common. This is even though there is a difference in how they approach their lack of self-esteem.
Here are some of the qualities that you may find in both white knight and black knight narcissists:
Narcissists revolve around their own unstable self-esteem and base their decisions on how each will affect their self-esteem
Narcissists canât engage in whole object relations, a thought process in which people can see themselves and others together with both likable and unpleasant traits
Narcissists canât engage in object constancy, which is the ability to maintain positive feelings for someone when you feel negative emotions at the moment
Narcissists have an obsessiveness with their status
Narcissists have a binary sense of self in which theyâre perfect or worthless
Narcissists have intellectual empathy rather than emotional empathy
Narcissists believe that someone needs to take the blame when something goes wrong
Both white knight narcissists and black knight narcissists have these personality traits in common. Even though they go about their wants differently, they have the same issue: low self-esteem.
I am becoming aware of the effect a lack of trust in the media has had on people, paired with a dearth of research skills.

PSA for Fanfic Authors
There's a very common scam going around right now. Not sure if it's hitting Wattpad, but these messages are definitely going around both AO3 and FFN:
I'm gonna talk to AO3, because that's where I live. These are most often guest accounts, but lately people have been getting them from registered users, as well.
You tend to get a paragraph of generic compliments that don't actually reference your fic in any way. Or, if they do, it's extremely broad: "Hey, I love how you portray the relationship between Blorbo and Blorbette!" That could be about literally any fic in the ship tag.
Then you get into the hook. "I'm an artist, and I would love to collaborate with you to bring your work to life!" And, since getting fanart is one of the highest compliments an author can get, you get excited and agree to privately message the person on Discord or Insta.
Then it turns out that they're a commission artist, and they would like you to pay up front for them to create that art they're so excited about. I've seen people report being asked for US $200 - $300 on average. Once you've paid them, one of two things happen: Either they simply ghost you entirely, or you get sent a piece of shitty AI "art".
Real commission artists don't need to coldcall random authors. They generally have a backlog of several months. A real commission artist will also generally ask for partial payment up front, but that's usually a token, basically a deposit. You should expect to see progress drawings, as well; sketches, and drafts, that you should be able to approve before the design is finalized. A real artist will work very closely with you to ensure that you're getting the art that you want.
If you get one of these scams, and it's from a guest user, click the Spam button, and delete the comment. If it's a registered user, report them for violating the TOS (spamming, monetization) and then block.
If you fell for one of these scams, contact your bank. You should be able to put a stop payment on the transaction, and recover your money. You can also contact the cash app (venmo, paypal, etc.). Even if you received AI crap, that is not what you paid for. You were paying for genuine art, and receiving anything else makes it a fraudulent transaction.
Stay safe out there!

SCAM ALERT!!!!!!!!!
Contact Your Representatives About the CASE Act
Are you in the US? The OTW needs your help!
Congress awkwardly crammed some copyright provisions into a COVID-relief bill, including the creation of a âsmall claimsâ copyright tribunal that could absolutely bankrupt fans who get targeted, and provisions about âfelony streaming.â OTW has actively opposed this âsmall claimsâ proposal, and when it passed, we thought that there was nothing more to be done.
BUT!! As of this morning (23 Dec 2020), there has been movement. President Trump has threatened to veto the COVID bill and, among other things, asked for all of the ancillary language in the act to be removed, including the âsmall claimsâ and âfelony streamingâ provisions.
Time to contact your congresspeople and tell them to take copyright out of the COVID bill! Here is a way to do that, via our allies at the EFF. Alternatively, you can identify and contact your senator and your representative in the House via the linked websites. This legislation could pass in the next few days so if you are able to act, please do it now!
Note: this is DIFFERENT from Senator Tillisâs copyright wish-list that we posted about yesterday. Â Senator Tillis is still doing his thing; itâs not a bill andâwe hopeâmay never become one. Â We anticipate a long road ahead on that front.

Hey, Kiki-Kit. Your customers are waiting!
Well, this is a painful post to make given the respect and admiration I had for her, but a long overdue one because I'm not alone in this mess and I refuse to let another fan fall for it when I could've said something!
Back in February, I bought a commission from Kiki-Kit. You may know that artist as she was one of the best in the Gravity Falls fandom back in the day and the illustrator of Don't Dimension It in Lost Legends.
She'd been running emergency commissions at the start of the year and I got one from her for $40 USD.
I have the invoice and everything saved and also messages with Kiki of us talking about the comm and me paying her. I owe nothing on my end money wise! I paid in full.
She said later she'd have them finished by around the end of March but come late April, still no response. So, I messaged her about it. Nothing odd I thought. I get things can happen and if Kiki is busy, at most she'd reply telling me it'll be a while longer and all's good.
But I got nothing. I messaged her, emailed her on the commissions email she had and tweeted at her. NOTHING! Turns out there were other people, including some friends of mine who had not heard back either. Then in June, Kiki made an update post explaining the situation.
Naturally I felt bad and wished her the best. She said iirc, she'd have the remaining comms done by the end of the Summer but here we are at the end of October and still nothing. I messaged her too again and no response.
You know, it's one thing if there's a reason for no response for a few days but then another when it's been months and still nothing. Oh and btw, I very much remember Kiki on Twitter liking tweets (back when Twitter let you see liked tweets) while I was there messaging her for an update. Real sus if you ask me.
But okay, I shouldn't rush it. Everyone has reasons to take time and maybe Kiki is just very busy and can't get back. She went through a very rough and difficult experience and I can understand and respect that. I'm more than happy to wait. But how long is too long without an update? Maybe a bit longer I guess. Art takes time.
Well, IDK about you all, but I don't remember any other Gravity Falls fan artist taking oh, idk...FIVE YEARS TO FINISH A COMMISION AND STILL NOT RESPOND!!
FoxieSkullzArtz on Twitter made me aware she has been waiting since 2019 for Kiki to respond to a commission they paid her for.
2019!!
I'm not an artist, so forgive me if I'm wrong. But I don't think it should take any artist 5 years to make a commission and even if, at least communicate with the person who paid you about it so they're not left guessing.
Oh, and it gets worse. I got another person who let me know they've been waiting since 2020 for a comm and Kiki handled it far worse!
Oh yeah, she blocked them for asking about it!
And okay, even if we give Kiki-Kit the benefit of the doubt and assume she has reasons to not communicate with people and maybe even assume people messaging her are being mean about it, then why not refund them? Nice or bad, you were paid by them to do something but also have the power to deny it and refund their money. And yet, Kiki did not even do that. And even if we be super kind and assume everyone is lying, I'm still here.
I paid Kiki-Kit $40USD for a comm I thought I would get in late March and it's now late October and still nothing. And even if you don't wanna believe me cause you can't believe an artist like Kiki-Kit would do this and assume I'm after clout (which would be odd, given why would I take pleasure in calling out an artist I respected)...well, there's gonna be someone else who says this too. And people have been saying this for years and she still is getting away with it!
It's disappointing honestly. Kiki-Kit is a name so many in this fandom know and love. And I love her art too. She's a fan artist who got to be on Lost Legends. We all celebrated that in 2018 and still remember it. And I know how hard it may be to hear this, but it has to be said.
I do not like having to do this, but I have a platform that can get this message across further than others could and having been someone who lost money to her too, I know first hand what all these people have been through.
And before you say "Kiki was going through a rough time in her life. Why are you blaming her? Be patient and she'll get your stupid art done," read over everything again. I'm not saying Kiki-Kit needs to be making art 24/7 and fulfilling these comms. I'm not saying she isn't allowed to be offline and not finish things on time for reasons out of her control. What I'm saying is that she hasn't communicated properly with anyone here who paid her and has continued to accept more and more commissions from people despite not finishing ones she has backlogs of.
When an artist opens commissions, why do you think they have slots or only accept a few? Because they know they can get that many done in a certain time or know anymore will take longer. And even if it took longer, at least they give updates. I bought a commission for the interview with Alex Hirsch and got it both on time and with proper communication from the artist.
And even if you disagree with all this, be honest with yourself...is making someone wait since 2019 or 2020 for a comm and not responding to them really something still worth defending?
I'm not here to cancel anyone. I don't want Kiki-Kit's reputation to be that of an scammer who stole money from people. But she's painted herself that way to far too many people who have been warning about this for ages but no one either saw or listened to them.
I tried to be nice and messaged Kiki-Kit over and over for an update and she never responded. I had friends who she took money from who similarly have not heard anything back! If you know Kiki directly, tell her to reach out to these people and all the ones she has taken money from and not gotten back to and either refund them or commit to finishing their commissions. Please don't be rude or hostile either though, given despite it all, she is still a person like your or me who deserves a chance to make things right.
I wanna believe Kiki-Kit has just made some negligent mistakes and isn't the best with time management or communication. I mean, I'm not the best either. But I'm not asking people for money for something and then not getting back to them with it. I'm sorry to everyone who is learning about this who saw Kiki in a positive light and I'm sorry also to everyone like me who lost money to her.
I hope if nothing else, Kiki will respond and make whole everyone she has taken money from. If she really cares about this fandom that put her on a pedestal high enough that Alex Hirsch himself picked her to work on his book, she can respond to us and fulfill what we paid her to do.
I'm not asking for my commission to be done tomorrow...I just want an update. That's all. We all do! No more stalling, @kiki-kit. Please respond to us now!
Sincerely,
Every person who has paid you for a commission and has yet to hear back from you and every Gravity Falls fan who your work inspired and are now having to learn this about you!

Not a scam!
I think by now most of you know about this but I am making my own post about it bc it's important.
A few days ago, a misunderstanding happened, and @malokamohamed & @mohameedibraheem got labeled as scam accounts that stole @supportgaza 's campaign.
That was NOT correct.
As I said, it was just a misunderstanding and yesterday I got in contact with @idocumentscammers @kyra45 @el-shab-hussein and gave them all needed evidence and even Mahmoud ( @/supportgaza ) himself verified that Mohammed ( @/mohameedibraheem ) is his brother & Malak ( @/malokamohamed ) is his sister-in-law. And that the 3 girls (Malek, Eleen, & Najah) are actually their daughters.
They were very quick to answer and made the necessary edits and announcement posts about it you can find here, here, and here. To which I am very grateful.
Thus, Mohammed & Malak's campaign is now verified #240 on this list by el-shab-hussein/Nabulsi/Moayesh , and I vouch for them personally.
Now I ask that you please share their story and donate if you can bc they're very low on funds!
And please notify anyone you know who still hasn't read the update!

i'm sure you've seen one of these on your dash before, often captioned with a link to the same store, lavender constellation. these are absolutely prolific and because of the cutesy anesthetic and meme format, they get spread all across tumblr.
DO. NOT. BUY. not only are they resellers, they are scammers. you're lucky to receive anything at all, and they have a terrible refund process. please stop being free advertising for them
