In Memoriam: Russell Banks, 1940-2023
Author Russell Banks passed away on Saturday, January 7. He is the author of 14 novels, 6 short story collections, 2 books of poetry, and 3 nonfiction books. We hold three books by Banks in our collections, Rule of the Bone (Harper Collins, 1995), The Angel on the Roof (Harper Collins, 2000), and The Darling (Bloomsbury, 2004), all three of which are signed by the author.
Banks’ work has been commended for its look at regular people struggling to get by and to understand big feelings like grief and anger, while also dealing with issues of race. Banks participated in civil rights protests in the ‘60s and once dreamt of joining Castro’s army in Cuba, instead ending up working in a department store in Florida. Several of his novels have been made into feature films, including The Sweet Hereafter and Affliction.

I read this book when I was 14. And because I was in high school I had to do an essay in English class on a book I had read. So I chose this one.
And my teacher totally dismissed it. He didn't know the writer and had never read the book, and he advised me to do an essay on another novel.
Simply because he didn't know the author himself, he thought it would be a bad idea to write an essay on this wonderful book.

Starkid is one of the absolute best arguments for supprting independent art. The fact that the shows you're invested in can't get canceled by Big Daddy Streaming, the quality is always amazing, the love of the cast and crew doesn't get squeezed out by surprise budget reductions, the fact that since crowd funding provides almost all costs up front (plus the presence of voluntary digital ticket/in person tickets for additional funding), the fan base can access the full material for whatever cost they can contribute (even if you can give nothing monetarily, you will still get a professionally shot version of the material eventually, without surprise fees or password crackdowns, AND with captions/completely accesible regardless of location). The same goes for Tin Can Bros, Shipwrecked, and all the other associated theater and web series companies loosely connected to Starkid. Like, I cannot believe the amazing content provided to us at the same level as Broadway or streaming services with billion dollars at hand, with almost none of the catches that come with others. Like, I cannot believe that we get all of this right at our hands.

Leigh Bardugo said today at an event that all the diverse characters she portrays come naturally at her because the world is diverse. She's not looking for a black character, a disabled one nor a queer one, they are just part of the world so they are part of the worlds she creates. She also said that what is not normal is having a story full of white hetero and abled people, reality is diverse and so are her stories.
When she was explaining this she had to stop a few times because the auditorium kept cheering at her. Hope she felt all the love the audience was trying to show.

Morning Doodle: “She had been hard at work with the Triumvirate, trying to reassemble the Second Army and make a plan for its future. Some days Zoya had felt proud and full of excitement, but on others she’d felt like a child masquerading as a leader. It had been harrowing, thrilling to know that they were all standing at the precipice of something new.” (Leigh Bardugo’s King of Scars CH 11)

My friend who has not read SoC thought that the bathroom scene between Kaz and Inej in CK was smutty since she saw some fanarts of it and some people kind of hyped it like it was
I mean i think it might sound like a spicy scene to non-SoC readers when we call it "the bathroom scene"
Like the smuttiest thing that happend was kaz pecking Inej's neck and that almost sent him into a coma 😭

The chew and spit method
The simple answer is that the calories absorbed from chewing and spitting are negligible. Since food is not exposed to digestive enzymes of the gastrointestinal tract, fats, proteins and carbohydrates cannot be digested (broken down into small pieces)
and therefore not absorbed.

never understood the "i deserve a snack" mentality
this kinda just applies to junk food and things like that but in my head, it just doesn't make sense why you would reward yourself with something that is horrible for your body, makes you feel horrible, and makes you feel like you look horrible.
but maybe that's just the ana talking
