Pairing: Remus Lupin X Regulus Black X Barty Crouch Jr x GN Reader WC: 1,094 CW: Poly Relationship, Anxiety, talks of Remus being in pain Author's Note: Heyyyy so like I know I haven’t been here for a while but I’m hoping I’ll be getting back into this😌🖤 Summary: Remus nervous about his first full moon in the new house
Tumblr media
. ° .• °:. *₊ ° . ☆₊☽ ◯ ☾. • ☆ . ° .• °:. *₊ ° .
Remus was pretty happy with his life at this point.
He had great friends, a promising career and the most perfect and loving partners he could ask for.
But that didn't change the fact that for one night a month he absolutely loathed his life.
He hated the moon almost as much as he hated himself during the moon.
Though over the years he had learned to accept what he was significantly more than he used to.
He had learned to tolerate it. To live with it.
But that didn’t mean it didn't scare the absolute hell out of him most of the time.
Especially when the conversation of moving in with his partners came into the loop.
He was feeling beyond apprehensive about the idea of it all.
It wasn't because he didn't love his partners, quite the opposite actually. It was because he loved them so much that the thought of accidentally hurting them or cursing them with the same fate as himself or… worse…  would often send him into a spiral of anxiety, overthinking and self loathing.
But eventually after months of reassurance -and Barty pouting- Remus caved and agreed that the four of you should finally move in together.
So after weeks of searching for a home -which according to you and Barty felt like it was taking ‘fucking forever’- you finally found your perfect home and moved in as soon as possible.
That was a few weeks ago now and last night was the first full moon in the new house.
Yesterday before nightfall Remus was beyond terrified.
His mind had been clouded with overthinking and the absolute worst scenarios his brain could manage all day.
So when he woke up still in the basement that he and your entire friend group had spent countless hours reinforcing and charming -to Remus’s standards and preferences of course- he was so grateful.
So grateful in fact that he was able to be distracted by the pain in his body a few moments longer than normal.
But eventually the pain consumed his body like it normally did.
For what could have been a few minutes or a few hours -Remus wasn't really sure- he just laid there looking up at the ceiling of the basement basking in the pain that ran through his body and his normal post full moon self loathing. Just completely lost in his own mind that was until he was pulled out by the sound of your voice.
“Moons? Are you awake?”
The sound of your voice had involuntarily brought a smile to Remus’s face and sent a wave of calm and comfort over him.
“Yea I’m awake love.” Remus groaned while sitting up feeling a few of his joints popping and his muscles tensing up.
It didn't take long for him to hear the sound of your footsteps coming down the stairs with a hot cup of coffee -that you meticulously made sure was exactly to his liking- and his favorite blanket in hand.
Both things Remus had gladly and gratefully accepted.
“We made breakfast, if you're up for it.”
The sweet softens off your voice was slightly interrupted by Regulus chuckling.
“And of course by ‘we’ Y/N means they did the majority of the cooking since we all know I can't cook to save my life and we value our health enough to not want a repeat of when Barty tried to cook dinner for us the other week.”
Remus couldn't help but laugh a little, no matter how much it hurt, when he heard a very dramatic gasp from Barty.
“I'll have you know Black that I'm an excellent cook, you're just too much of a prick to appreciate such perfection.”
Remus continued to chuckle at the very familiar childish bickering happening between two of his lovers.
He was actually enjoying the small distraction so much that he didn't notice when you sat next to him until he felt your shoulder brush against him.
“How are you feeling really, Remus?”
Remus couldn't help the small sigh that escaped his lips when he heard your words. “As good as to be expected love… I'm just grateful I didn’t get out and hurt one of you or worse...”
You sighed softly and looked at Remus with a soft and loving look in your eyes. “Remus, I know you're worried but this bassment is a fortress. We'll be fine.”
Though you sounded so sure in your words Remus still wasn't fully convinced.
His mind was already starting to spiral at this point with the possibilities and of the dangers that he imposed on the three most important people in his life.
Remus hadn't even realized he was now staring off into the black abyss of his coffee cup that was currently warming his hands till you placed your hand on top of his gaining his full attention.
When Remus’s eyes met yours he couldn't deny the love and honesty that he saw swimming in them which made your next words comfort him.
“We are fine. We will be fine. I know your anxiety won't go away but you need to remember that you have done everything in your power to ensure our safety and that's all you can do. Plus you know better than anyone that the three of us are very skilled with our magic so we are more than capable of taking care of ourselves. Not everything is on you Remus. We knew what we were signing up for when we asked for the four of us to move in together. We love you and everything will be fine I promise.”
Remus just sighed and nodded.
A part of him honestly did feel better, he knew that he would never be a hundred percent comfortable for that one day a month but it made him feel better to know that you genuinely believed in your words and in him.
“Okay, I'll try to calm down more… I’m just so scared that I'm going to hurt one of you but I'll do my best to keep my anxiety at bay... Thank you, my love.”
Remus wrapped his arm around you and kissed the top of your head just being happy in the moment.
Once a month he loathed his life.
But everyday before and after the full moon he genuinely loved his life.
Right now he loves his life.
He had one of his lovers in his arms while his other two lovers were ‘fighting’.
This is the life he will forever be truly grateful for.

Alternative Potterverse
In my head there is some universe where Harry was raised by Regulus( because he faked his death but came back when after the death of Harry's parents), and therefore grew up alongside Draco. As a result, they knew each other and were friends from the start, both being sorted into Slytherin. And they just end up in some ride-or-die relationship with a toxic best friend to lovers (The Dark Lord was defeated after James and Lily's death by Regulus.)

Azoth by @lol-zeitgeistic [88k]
Now that Harry is back at Hogwarts with Hermione for eighth year, he realises that something’s missing from his life, and it either has to do with Ron, his boggart, Snape, or Malfoy. Furthermore, what, exactly, does it mean when one’s life is defined by the desire to simultaneously impress and annoy a portrait? Harry has no idea; he’s too busy trying not to be in love with Malfoy to care.
the call of sweet things by @softlystarstruck [88k]
Draco’s happy with his quiet, lonely life in Woolbury, spending his days working at Pen Pals and keeping his already tidy flat spotless. But when Harry Potter shows up with pink hair and secrets about his magic, Draco’s carefully upheld balance falls apart. He doesn’t quite know how he ends up decorating Harry’s cottage, drinking unreasonable amounts of cocoa, and laughing more than he’s laughed in years, but it’s Christmas, after all– and he finally has a chance to set things right.
Cauldron Full of Hot, Strong Love by aibidil [80k]
In which a group of wizards’ rights activists goes on the offensive after a prohibition against love potions, forcing the magical world to confront the horror of magic’s role in sexual assault and the murky   legal nature of consent. Ron, Hermione, Harry, and Draco are swept   together to solve the case, and in the process they’re made to confront their own love and lust—with and without potions.
Criminal by @the-sinking-ship [83k]
Things were going just fine for Draco Malfoy. He successfully conned and counted cards across Europe and America, amassing a small fortune, along with a lengthy rap sheet. That was until he made the grave mistake of returning to England for a high stakes card game and got himself caught – by Harry Potter no less. Now, Draco is stuck in England under Auror Potter’s guard with no friends, no distractions, and no escape. How the hell will he pass the time? And since when did Potter get so bloody fit?
Dear Cousin, Love Regulus by @xx-thedarklord-xx [86k]
As the sole Malfoy heir, Draco understood that his path was set long before his birth; who to be, how to act and what his choices should be. What he had not counted on was the power of outside influences. Letters from his deceased cousin caused him to realize that he did have choices, starting with the choice to be someone else, to be who he wanted to be. The road to self-discovery was difficult and navigating that path in the shadow of Harry Potter was its own challenge but maybe, just maybe, his friends would help him along the way. And he would owe it all to Regulus Black.
Heaven Through a Window by JocundaSykes [81k]
Life is going swimmingly for Draco: he’s a respected Healer, his son is excellent in every way, and none of his patients have died recently. Then he gets landed with Perfect Potter and his hordes of stupid friends. It’s intolerable. But the more time Draco spends with the lonely boy from Surrey, the more he believes that there might be a hero within us all.
If the Fates Allow by Saras_Girl [80k]
What’s that crackling in the walls? Harry has no clue at all. He’ll eat some cake and drink some wine Because he is completely FINE. –A story about life’s disregard for our plans. [2017 advent story]
In Free Fall by @kbrick [81k]
Draco Malfoy is a serious university student whose idea of a good time is translating Ancient Greek texts and having game night with his small circle of friends. Harry Potter is a hard-partying adrenaline junkie who’s happiest when he’s leaping from an airplane or hurtling over a waterfall in a kayak. They have nothing in common. But when they reconnect in the Muggle world, curiosity prompts them to strike up a deal. Draco will show Harry what it’s like to be a swotty overachiever and Harry will show Draco what it’s like to live life dangerously. It’ll be fun, and really, what’s the worst that could happen? It’s not like Draco’s going to fall in love with the guy or anything.
In Pieces by @dysonrules [85k]
Harry returns to Hogwarts as the new DADA instructor, only to find his teaching efforts thwarted by a very familiar ghost.
Knead by laughingd0g [83k]
This is not a story about Harry renovating Grimmauld Place. This is a story about coffee shops and brewpubs, about Ginny and Luna on a farm with creatures, about magical Oregon, coastal road trips, flying, friendship, and Draco Malfoy’s lean arms.
The Light More Beautiful by @firethesound [81k]
Thirteen years after Draco accepts Potter’s help escaping the horror of his sixth year, he returns to England where he makes the unfortunate discovery that Potter is still as obnoxious as ever. And worse, more than a decade overseas hasn’t been enough to dim Draco’s obsession with him.
Loverboys by @corvuscrowned [84k]
As post-war violence and tensions rise, it seems as if there’s no hope to unify the wizarding world. Except, maybe, a manufactured relationship between resident Saviour Harry Potter and known purveyor of the Dark Arts Draco Malfoy. (The fact that they detest each other is beside the point.) But as Draco’s unrelenting mind games begin to wear him down, Harry has to remind himself that it’s all fake. The relationship is fake. The affection is fake. The pet names, the romance — even the engagement photos are fake. But there’s something in Draco’s kiss that might just be real.
Martyred by @doingthechachaslide [82k]
Harry Potter only wants one thing: to take care of the people he loves. After Teddy’s abrupt departure from his role as Andromeda’s caretaker, Harry decides it’s finally time to step up and handle the job himself. Castoff Manor, an old Black family estate, has never seemed as sinister as the stories make it sound, but it’s there that Harry stumbles upon ghosts, haunting family secrets, and a familiar, snarky blond gardener hell-bent on chasing him out. Maybe if Harry sticks around long enough, he’ll finally learn why all of Andromeda’s previous caretakers have fled without looking back.
Merlin, Give Me Strength by Aelys_Althea [86k]
Draco retreated after the war. Despite the Wizarding world turning a smiling, forgiving face to any and all with a black name and stained reputation, he wanted none of it. All Draco wanted was to be left alone. Unfortunately for him, Harry Potter doesn’t want to leave him alone. And more than that, he finds himself with the most unlikely of house guests that he just can’t seem to rid himself of. Why is life never simple?
Merlin Works in Mysterious Ways by @lordhellebore [82k]
When Harry is forced to form a Blood Bond with Draco Malfoy under threat of death, he thinks his future will consist of a cold home and sexual frustration. But when a group of left-over Death Eaters decides to stir trouble, their lives change completely – and it takes them both some years to figure out whether it’s for better or for worse.
The Nightmare Club by Elle Gray [85k]
Hermione and Ron are going back to Hogwarts to do N.E.W.T.s, Ginny isn’t. Harry hasn’t decided, until he has, in front of the Wizengamot and now he’s responsible for Malfoy as well. A tale of enemies who learn to get along, get it wrong and get it on. Everything is purple, some things are on fire and no-one is sleeping properly. But don’t worry, there’s tea!
On the Last Day of Our World by Sansa [84k]
During a detention, Harry and Draco get locked in a strange room together overnight. When they escape the next morning, they discover they are alone. Love, angst and adventure abound as they struggle to survive in an empty world.
red and green are complimentary colours by  ace_0fhearts [88k]
After the war Hermione manages to convince Harry to go back to Hogwarts for his eighth year. Expecting an uneventful year of classes and rooming with the other Gryffindor boys, he’s surprised when McGonagall tells him he’ll be sharing a room with Draco Malfoy. Now Harry has to get through a year of arguments and awkward silences. Or he would, if Malfoy would stop ignoring him and moping around the castle alone. Or: Draco and Harry fall in love through sleepless nights and late night quidditch games
Reparo by amalin [84k]
Voldemort’s final defeat does not mean Harry Potter’s troubles are over; far from it. In the aftermath of war, he returns to a Hogwarts that is fractured and divided, but this is no break that can be fixed with a spell. New owls, fading scars, surprising alliances—and along the way, the hardest task of all, to live with it.
The Stars Have Courage by @fantalf [85k]
Draco can’t breathe, can’t think, can’t move. He can’t hear anything besides the buzzing in his ears. The walls are closing in. The world becomes smaller, narrowing itself to the pain in his chest, and it becomes the only thing that makes sense. He tries to cry. Maybe he is crying, but there are no tears anymore. Luna’s words echo endlessly in his brain. Harry doesn’t remember. Harry doesn’t love Draco. Repeating ceaselessly. Infinite, Harry used to say. No. No. No. Draco can’t lose him again. But he doesn’t know who you are now. He doesn’t love you. He hates you. You are no one. His world turns into an overwhelming pain. And that pain is all that he is. — Draco waited five long years to watch his husband wake up from a coma. He’s not ready to meet a Harry with no memory of anything that happened after he died at The Battle of Hogwarts, twelve years ago.
Things That Change by eutichydes [84k]
After Hogwarts, everything changes.
This Year’s Love by trishjames [84k]
This year’s love had better last, heaven knows it’s high time when you try to make lovers from friends. But Harry Potter realises time and time again that it’s simply not possible for him. And then along comes Draco Malfoy— the ultimate foe on the mend. Whatever will become of them? A story about love.
Variation by @lower-east-side [87k]
After suffering enormous losses, Draco Malfoy must now struggle to define his place in the post-war world. Through dashed hopes and changing fortunes, Draco carves out a new niche for himself. But adapting to life with Harry Potter may be the biggest challenge of all.
I hope you enjoy these stories as much as I did!

a/n: here’s this bc i’m writing a request rn🙏🗣️
3.2k words ^_^
Tumblr media
You had always thought James was your soulmate. You had shared so many happy memories, only dating for a year and a half but being friends longer. You never imagined a world without him.
But good things never last forever, especially when it’s something good happening to you. You never expected for James to break up with you, at least not for another girl he was slowly falling in love with, not for the girl he told you not to worry about.
“She’s just a friend,” you had recounted the amount of times he had told you those words. As much as he said them, he clearly never listened to them.
You had watched them get close together, everyone had known before you, Lily had his heart, but he had told you multiple times he loved you and only you. So why is he leaving you right now for her?
You could feel the flowers you two grew together dying of thirst.
Clearly, the feelings never died for her, as they were assigned to be partners in Transfiguration class for a project; you could see his change in attitude. He was slowly becoming distant.
But he clearly didn’t care anymore about your feelings as he flat out told you he was leaving you for Lily.
“Why?” you knew why. Everyone did.
“I just love her. I always knew she would be the one. I’m sorry.”
“If you knew she was ‘always the one,’ why did you get into a relationship with me? To play with the feelings?” you screamed, finally had enough of his crap.
That very day, you had walked out of the Gryffindor common room, would be the last.
You had cut all contact with James. Yes, you were friends with the other Marauders, but not close enough. You had ignored them anytime they would talk to you, only talking to them if it was important.
It had only been five days since your awful break up with James, five. Five days and he was already asking Lily out, and she had said yes.
You found out when you heard three girls gossiping in the library, you had run out the second you heard those words.
Were you that easy to get over?
ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ
‘I should be happy’ is what James keeps telling himself. He has the girl of his dreams laying on him right now! Why isn’t he smiling like a man in love? Why is he thinking about you?
He broke up with you because it was never going to be you. So why did he almost call Lily your name?
It had been a month since the breakup. In that month, he had celebrated his anniversary with Lily. They had been over the moon that day, thankful it was a Hogsmeade weekend. But that whole trip made him think of you. Especially when Lily got the same drink you always got.
He never realized how much he loved you. He misses your stupid jokes, your smile, the way you would always laugh at his jokes and pranks.
Lily would never be you, you would never be Lily. Ever. You would never make him feel bad for saying one silly joke. You would never discourage him from pulling a prank, as long as it didn’t hurt him. You would always drop what you were doing to be with him, Lily wouldn’t. He wasn’t used to that, wasn’t used to anything Lily was.
He was quickly lost in thought, not even listening to anything Lily was saying, until she slapped his hand, finally catching his attention back.
“What’s for you so deep in thought?” Lily said, her face holding a confused expression.
“Just about you, of course. Can’t wait to go more on these dates, till we are old and wrinkly.” James quickly said, not wanting to actually tell her what he was thinking.
Lily had smiled at that. Not knowing that those words were the words you would tell him almost every time you two were on dates. Making jokes about being together till you were old and wrinkly but so in love, still going on weekly dates.
James was stuck. Stuck in the past where he had you. He wishes more than anything to go back to that very same night and change things.
As stuck as James was, he told himself that he was just confused. He didn’t miss you, no! Maybe he was sick, so he’s thinking of you, yeah! That’s right, he doesn’t really care about you, he’s just sick.
He wishes to not be sick for long.
ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ
It had now been seven months. Seven months and you had never been more happier than now. Around the sixth month, you had realized how much you had gotten over James. Not searching for him in the halls to not run into him, in the Great Hall, anywhere anymore.
You never noticed the little things you did that lead to you finally getting over James. But he did. He longed for the attention you gave him before entering a class you shared, before making a turn, before entering the Great Hall and walking past the Gryffindor table to get to your own houses table.
Seven months later, you were now clean, as you liked to say it. In that very month, you had been paired with Regulus Black for a project for Potions. The project was worth a lot and a very lengthy one at that. Making you and Regulus have to actually talk and not do the work silently and awkwardly.
That very same day, you two had agreed to meet in the library an hour and a half before supper.
That night had been one of the best you had in months. Laughter filling the side of the library you two were at, Madam Pince telling you two to shush over and over again.
What you didn’t know was the boy who you used to laugh that much with was starring at you, intensely. He was so confused, why were you laughing with Regulus Black? But why does he care, he only came to the library to accompany Lily. As the laughter once again filled the noiseless library, he got more mad.
ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ
It had now been eight months. You had almost forgotten that James existed, some things would remind you of him here and there but your heart didn’t drop nor did it beat fast anymore over some small reference.
In those same eight months, you had also gotten closer to Regulus. It felt nice to be friends with him, though sometimes you wished it was more.
He understood you in many ways others couldn’t. In more ways James couldn’t. James was the opposite from you and Regulus was completely like you. Which is what made you two get along so quickly.
Now, you are walking with Regulus making your way to the Astronomy Tower. This spot had become your guys’ spot, coming here whenever. If you just wanted somewhere to hang out, if one was feeling sad, angry, or anything else. Although it was really only allowed to be entered during class, you two still found a way to enter without getting caught, it wasn’t that hard.
“How was your day today?” You had asked Regulus as you made your way to the railing.
“It was alright, History of Magic is always so boring, nearly fell asleep.” Regulus said, chuckling as he finished the end of sentence.
You had let out a giggle, smiling at Regulus then turning back to the view that the Astronomy Tower gave you of Hogwarts.
Regulus admired your features. He had always liked your eyes, the first thing he noticed. That same shade became his favorite color, he could get lost in your eyes for hours. His favorite second feature was your lips, a soft pink, he wishes he could kiss you.
Regulus pauses, why was he thinking about kissing you? He had known you before, but really getting to know you in a month, it’s been a month and he’s already head over heels. Great.
He knew about your past relationship with James, mostly everyone at Hogwarts did. He also knew that if he was James, he would’ve never left you. He would’ve married you, started a family with you.
“Are you okay? You’re totally spacing out on me, I was about to tell you about the cute animal I saw while walking in the Forbidden Forest!” Regulus always admired your love for animals, he loved the way you would ramble about them, going on and on about all the cute animals.
“I’m okay, don’t worry, I was just... thinking,” Regulus said, trying to get you to go back to talking about the animal you found.
“Alright…!”
ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ
It has now been nine months.
But the past two months have been heaven for you. Hanging out with Regulus has been the highlight of your days.
But something told you tonight was going to be different. It was a Hogsmeade weekend. Regulus invited you to go and hang out.
So now, here you were sitting across from him at Honeydukes. Sipping on your cold drink, trying not to laugh and make a mess of the drink in your mouth. You loved how funny Regulus was. He doesn’t seem like the funny type but he does know how to make a joke or two.
After thirty minutes of talking and giggling inside Honeydukes, you two had walked back to Hogwarts, going to the courtyard to just sit down on the nicely green colored grass.
You had made a joke causing Regulus to chuckle, before he cleared his throat and had said your name.
“Y/n.”
“What?” You had said nervously, confused on why he stopped laughing and randomly said your name in such a serious manner.
“I can’t do this anymore. Every time I’m with you I just… I want to kiss you. I really like you, if you don’t feel the same it’s fine I don’t expect you to, we have only known each for two almost three months but… if-“
You cut him off with a kiss.
Neither of you two could describe how you felt. Two hearts beating so fast.
“I like you too…” you had said, blushing while looking away.
Regulus smiled, leaning in for another kiss.

James had a tough night. He was hanging out with Lily but all he could think about was you. What if he was hanging out with you instead, would you two be talking about the pranks he wanted to pull on Snape?
Come to think of it, he hadn’t pulled a prank in months, Lily never liked them so she told him to stop.
Him and Lily were not that similar, sometimes opposites don’t attract. James had learned the hard way. You were exactly like him, he really missed you.
After an hour of just hanging out with Lily, she got bored of his silence, leaving saying she was tired, but he knew she wasn’t tired at all.
He left once Lily went up to the girls' dormitories. Now he was in bed, not sleeping, wide awake, with Peter snoring loudly to his left.
He missed you so much. His heart ached when he remembered that night. The tears streaming down your face, when you yelled at him, when you walked out of his life.
The very next morning, he awoke with dark circles under his usually cheery eyes.
“You good mate?” Sirius asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Yeah, I’m fine just didn’t sleep well.”
Sirius just nodded, he knew James was lying, it was obvious. James was never good at lying.
ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ
“What’re you staring at?” Lily asked, her head tilted slightly with no expression on her face.
“Nothing,” James says, only tearing his gaze away from you and Regulus when he realizes Lily was staring at him.
James sucked at lying. Lily knew he was staring at you. She also knew that she basically broke you and James up. So why was he staring at you when she’s right next to him?
Lily sighs, turning her attention away from James and towards her food, then at you.
Once James realized Lily wasn’t paying attention to him, he turned his gaze back to you. It had only been a few months since the breakup so why were you happy? Why were you laughing at a joke Regulus made? Why are you currently leaning on his shoulder because of a joke he made that was definitely not funny?
Are you seriously replacing him with a Slytherin of all people… his best mate's little brother too? Were you trying to get his attention? It’s definitely working, can’t you feel his gaze on you?
“No way she’s laughing with Regulus,” Sirius says, scoffing as he talks.
James’ gaze now broken and on Sirius, “Right, it’s like she’s trying to get my attention,” James says, rolling his eyes.
“Or maybe she’s finally moving on,” Remus suggests, Sirius and James scoffing at that.
“With Regulus? Please, they won’t last. He can barely function without our parents, doubt he can keep a relationship,” James laughs at what Sirius says.
“Can’t wait to see your brother break her heart, it’ll be entertaining,” Remus now sighing, tired of the conversation about James and his exes maybe new boyfriend.
Peter randomly butts in the conversation, “If you ask me, I think they’re an amazing couple, just like you and Lily, Prongs.”
James pauses, if Peter thinks you and Regulus are a good couple, would everyone else think the same? He felt sick, he didn’t want you moving on. He didn’t want to see you happy with another boy, and especially not a Slytherin.
“No, they don’t suit each other. Sirius can back me up, Regulus is too rude for Y/n, she prefers the sweeter guys.”
Sirius laughs, “I hope you aren’t referring to yourself as a sweet guy, plus that’s my brother you’re talking about.”
James lets out a small grin, “Yeah yeah, I’m leaving now. I have to do something.”
Lily now paying attention to James, “Where are you go-“ she couldn’t even finish what she wanted to say before James rushed out of his seat and made his way to wherever he was going.
“Does anyone know where he’s going?” Lily asked the other three Marauders, all three shrugging.
Lily sighed, about to put her head down until she saw both you and Regulus leave the Great Hall with James slowly following you two.
Confused and frustrated on why her boyfriend was now giving all his attention to the girl he left for her, she got up and made her way to James.
Once you made your way to the library to find the book you’ve been waiting to finally be turned in by the other student who had been reading it for forever, Regulus was the one who noticed James had been following you guys.
He subtly let you know, making you have a quick look behind you, seeing James walk behind you guys trying to be subtle but failing.
Regulus noticed the way you tensed up when you saw James following you two. He knew you still cared about him in some way, but he didn’t know how much.
“Are you okay?” Regulus whispered, grabbing your hand under the table to try and comfort you.
“Yeah, I’m fine; just wasn’t expecting him to follow us,” you whispered back, squeezing his hand.
“Hey, you,” Regulus said, getting your attention back.
You turned to face him, a small smile on your lips, “Hey, yourself.”
Regulus took your hand and kissed the back of it, making you blush and look down at your lap.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Regulus asked again, genuinely concerned for you.
“Yeah, I’m sure. I have you; what else could I possibly want?”
Regulus smiled at that, leaning in to give you a kiss on your cheek.
You leaned your head on his shoulder, closing your eyes, and for the first time in months, you truly felt happy.
ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ
“What do you mean? Of course, I don’t like her?” James said as if what he was saying was obvious.
“What do I mean? C’mon James, you’re always staring at her, you even left the Great Hall because her and another dude did!” Lily’s almost had enough of bickering back and forth.
“So what? I left her for you, stop being so insecure, she means nothing to me, it’s a coincidence that they left the same time I did, don’t over analyze it like you always do!” James replied angrily, having enough of this conversation because if he was being truthful, yes he left the Great Hall because he saw you and Regulus leave hand in hand!
“Insecure? Wow James, this is so stupid, just admit it! You still love her, but why? When we were meeting in secret you always told me she was boring and other things! So what’s changed? The fact that she’s now over you and probably in love with that dude? I am leaving don’t even answer that question.” Lily huffed, angrily leaving the empty common room to who knows where.
James now angry and full of thoughts, he makes his way to the sofa near the fireplace. Does he still love you? He regrets telling Lily that you were boring; you never were. You were always full of light, the best girlfriend ever, in comparison to Lily she was nothing compared to you.
Now James was thinking, could he get you back? You and Regulus might be dating but he wasn’t so sure. You two seem like great friends who might like each other so if he makes his way back into your life the feelings for Regulus would leave and you and James would live happily ever after.
He really liked his idea, now all he needed to do was put it to plan. He would always know your after-school schedule so he quickly made his way to the library.
As he entered he made his way to the spot you always were, he remembers the hours you two would spend there, remembering that made his heart flutter, he couldn’t wait to get you back!
That dream of his was soon crushed.
There you were. The same spot, but with Regulus, not just hanging out but kissing.
Why were you kissing him?
James felt his heart break, he let the only good thing in his life go away. How could he be so stupid, he had you and left you for another girl who is quite the opposite of him.
He stood there for a minute or two, but enough for you and Regulus to notice him.
“Um, James?” You talked, awkwardly looking at him, glancing at Regulus.
James quickly snapped out of the trance, hearing your voice say his name almost made him melt until he remembered what he saw. James swallowed his spit, “I’m leaving don’t worry, continue on with whatever that was.” James scoffs with an angry expression.
James did what he said he’d do. Right after he talked to you after months, he sped back to his dorm, not feeling like dealing with anyone. Anyone that wasn’t you.
Is this how you felt when James broke up with you? He honestly wasn’t sure he could or even wanted to get over you. You were just perfect, and he ruined it.
James had never slept worse ever in his life than that night.

Reveals Day 1
Tumblr media
Hello, everyone! We are so excited for day 1 of reveals! We are so proud of all of the hard work that the Fest participants have put in! We will be revealing new works each weekday for the next two weeks!
As a reminder, please keep in mind that a lot of Conan's material (and the Marauders Fandom) can be angsty, so please mind all ratings and tags!
I want ya (like everyone else here tonight) - by starsbythepocketfuls
Everyone loves Mary. It’s a fact, anyone who meets her loves her, and the only people who didn’t clearly had issues. So it’s no surprise that Lily’s one of the many. Mary’s just got that gravitational pull, she's impossible to stay away from. It might be a new year, a new party but it’s just the same. Someone asks Mary out, she kindly rejects them, the world keeps spinning. So Lily’s not going to ruing their friendship over something unrequited. She’s not going to sit there and die inside every time someone dances with Mary. She’s not going to do anything. Until she gets really drunk… Mary doesn’t like her back, she can’t, can she?
the day the stars died (and our hearts misaligned) - by saturnitystar
He draws his lower lip between his teeth, still refusing to meet Regulus’ eyes. “You promised. You promised it wouldn’t go this far. You – you said you were okay, that everything was going to be fine but it’s not, it’s not fine anymore.”
“Everything is fine –”
“No, it’s not!” Sirius almost yelled, eyes widening at the way Regulus immediately pulled away to shield himself. He felt as though someone had plunged a knife into him, seeing his younger brother scared and curling in on himself with his eyes squeezed shut – scared of him.
Sirius discovering Regulus’ dark mark, and the conversation that ensues. (inspired by Conan Gray’s “Astronomy” <3)
sleeves - by ilookinpeopleswindows
“Pads!”
Sirius turned around. A football, in all its black and white glory, greeted him with a smack to the face. “Bloody hell, James!” He was going to have a bruise.
(or: severe sirius angst. proceed with caution.)

"When did you say they were arriving again?"
Your voice echoes through the walls of the kitchen at 12 Grimmauld place. you wipe down the kitchen counters as another smaller, more meek voice replies.
"Mum we talked about this" That's your son. Regulus.
After the event of your brother passing, you wanted to honour his name. Such a beautiful name it was. No matter how cruel the people to name him were.
"I know ,I just worry, what if they get lost? maybe they couldn't find the place? what if they got caught- " Your rambling was interrupted by your son once again.
"MUM! nothing is going to happen. Besides, he's your brother. And he has lived here before. You know him." Regulus reasoned, and frankly his reasoning was logical. you were just...paranoid.
You did however, leave out the fact that what truly made you nervous was Remus.
"Well i haven't for the past 14 years, Regulus." you replied, snappy, referring to sirius. Your impatience was nearly rivaling that of your son.
"when is it arrivingggg?" a voice full of exasperation nearly whines as the screeching sound of trolly wheels comes to a halt.
An eleven year old regulus rocks back and forth on the balls of his feet as he (claimed to) patiently wait for hogwarts express to make it's way into the platform.
A thirty three year old you bent down to brush away his untamed curls, sighing as you did so.
"It will arrive soon enough, dove. Calm down."
Your voice tried to reason but little regulus's patience was waning. You had never seen a kid be so excited at the thought of going off to boarding school. But you suppose watching his older brother Harry would have embedded him with some form of excitement for the school.
You would be lying if you said you weren’t just as excited. It was your son’s first day at school. Big boy wizarding school. You were excited to see your boy go to the place you first knew as home, meet your former professors, roam the halls that you did, and make friends.
You did not, however, expect his first friend to be Draco Malfoy, son of Lucius Malfoy and your dearest cousin. In a way the two were cousins, they just didn’t know it yet.
That summer, when regulus came back from Hogwarts, he had a plethora of stories to tell you. His rant began with his new friends, Draco, Blaise, Pansy and Theo, and ended with his defense against the dark arts professor, Remus Lupin.
Needless to say all colour drained from your face at the mention of him. Remus Lupin…how do you even begin to describe remus lupin?
Remus is pretty.
He is pretty like the sunrise in winter, when the sky is faded out and it's warm. Thats what you think as you sit on the roof of  potter manor. Chatting, with hands occupied by, what you think is, beer in plastic cups. You felt giddy, perhaps it was the alcohol in your system. Or the gentle brush of his hand on your clothed thigh. You felt…in love. Somewhere along the way your innocent schoolgirl crush had become something more. You hoped it had been so for him as well.
“Dove…”
His velvety voice catches your attention. You turn your head to him, only to see him still facing the sun. You’re sure he’s seen your movement though, as he takes it as his que to continue.
Nothing. Nothing could brace you for the words that were to follow.
“I fancy you.” Your eyes widen. He continues.
“I have for some time now… I think you fancy me too? Not to-  I- uhm–”
“I do.” you find yourself speaking.
That was your first of many kisses to come.
Just then, the sound of the doorbell catches your attention.
“That must be them” your son says, in a rather ‘i told you so’ tone.
You rush to wipe your hands on the kitchen towel and head for the door.
Taking a deep breath to brace yourself for what’s probably Remus Lupin on the other side of the door, you pull it open with a creak.
Your eyes immediately find his.
And for a moment, you're fourteen again. Staring at the brown haired bloke across kings cross station, as he laughs with your brother. Mesmerized by his eyes, his nose, his lips, his scars. You knew that face all too well.
You blink and you're back at the doorway. Staring at those brown eyes, those eyes you knew...all too well.
"Remus.."
"Hi, love"

931 - detective - @stag-microfic tw: mentioned murder
happy birthday sweetheart, I tried to make this sweet I promise but you did say they could comit murder lmao @ecstarry
“Detective Potter, what brings you here?”
The man in question gives him a look as if Regulus should know, he has to hold in his urge to smirk, keeping his eyes wide and innocent as he looks at the detective from below.
“Another girl is missing after leaving the bar nearby.”
“Oh,” Regulus pretends to be surprised. “What a tragedy.”
Potter hums, “Yes it is,” his eyes never straying from Regulus’s, considering all of his reactions.
“That doesn’t explain why you’re in my flower shop, though,” he points out.
“Bartender said you were open the night she disappeared, figured you could’ve seen something.”
“Nope,” he pops out the word, “I was in the back cultivating my garden.”
“I’m sure you were,” Potter’s voice is full of scepticism. “Would you mind if I checked this garden of yours?”
“Let me think,” Regulus makes a mockery out of it, pressing his fingers to his temple. “Do you have a warrant?”
Potter looks frustrated with him, “You know I don’t.”
“Then I’m afraid that’s not possible,” Regulus smiles sweetly at him, batting his eyelashes for good measure.
“Why are you doing this?” Potter looks so done with him.
“I can show you my apartment upstairs, though,” he replies cheekily, ignoring the detective’s question.
Potter snorts, “Hard pass.”
Regulus's smile dies on his lips. “Good luck on your search then,” his eyes narrow, accompanying Potter to the door.
“I’ll be back,” the detective warns.
“I’m sure you will.” They always do.
It’s past nine p.m. when he’s about to close the shop before being stopped by a certain pain in the ass - not even on the fun way - detective entering his shop again.
“What are you doing here, detective?” His tone is harder than it had been during the day.
“I’m off the clock,” Potter assures him.
“Oh?” Regulus knows he can’t keep the interest out of his voice.
“Yeah,” his stare is way more leisurely than when he studied Regulus before. “I’ve been thinking about you all day,” he flips the closed sign on the door.
Regulus can’t help his satisfied smirk, “Of course you were.”
Potter closes the window curtains before approaching him slowly. “You should be more careful, though,” he warns.
“What about?” Regulus doesn’t bother to keep the smugness out of his voice, satisfied with getting what he wants, he usually does.
“Who you tell things,” the detective messes with the cord that holds Regulus’s apron around his waist, pulling on it harshly until it snaps open falling to their feet. “You never know when one of them might decide it’s not worth it to keep your secrets anymore.”
“Why would they?” Regulus teases. “When what I can give them back is so much sweeter.”
 Potter swallows heavily, “How sweet?”
“Why don’t you try it for yourself?” he challenges. “Thought you said you were off the clock.”
“I am,” Potter leans in closer, finally giving in to the temptation, he runs his nose over Regulus's neck slowly, drinking in the smell he craves. It makes Regulus shiver and practically melt on the taller man's arms, the effect one has on the other is undeniable any time they step close. “And that’s why I’m giving you a fair warning. Be careful, love.”
“Well she shouldn’t have flirted with you in front of me,” Regulus retorts snidely, crossing his arms defensively between them.
James laughs against his cheek, taking Regulus’s arms in his hands and putting them on his waist, not allowing his boyfriend to keep any barriers between them. “Did you dispose of the body?”
“Of course, I’m not stupid.”
“I know you aren’t, baby, but people might start getting suspicious.”
Regulus scoffs, “Who would suspect the flower shop guy?”
James kisses his cheek, then his jaw, every time coming closer to his mouth, “Don’t get confident, love. That’s how everyone gets caught.”
“But you are not going to allow that, are you, Detective Potter?” Regulus raises an eyebrow in challenge.
After all, there was a reason why he had chosen to seduce the acclaimed James Potter in the first place, it didn’t matter if he’d fallen in love with him along the way, the end result was still the same. Regulus counted on his protection.
“Of course not, my love. I’d never let them come close to you,” James promises him earnestly.
Regulus finally turns his head and kisses him slowly as a reward. “Thank you, sweetheart. Have I told you how much I love you today?”
“No,” James's smile is so wide it’s blinding. “Tell me.”
Regulus smirks when he pulls James in by the collar of his shirt as he walks backwards to the stairs. “Why don’t I show you instead?”
James looks more than happy with the alternative, he’s always so willing to go along with everything Regulus suggests, which is one of the things he loves the most about him. He hadn’t even blinked when Regulus killed the first guy for flirting with James in front of him.
Hell, Regulus was pretty sure James had gotten hard when he realised how far Regulus was willing to go for him. When he knew that was how Regulus proved his love for him. They both had very different ways of showing it, Regulus by killing and James by protecting him.
But none of them felt any less loved by the other, they just expressed their devotion differently. Regulus wouldn’t choose it any other way.
He is the happiest he’d ever been when he is by James’s side. That’s never changing. And to them, that's what matters the most.

Lily but she's the goddess of love and pure death, with a sprinkle of motherhood as part of her domain, and Regulus Black who knows he's going to die soon and prays to her in despair. because he's always had a deep facination/fondness for her, especially when he was little, and these days she feels like the only friend he has left. so he rereads her myths everyday and he sets up a small altar in his room and he talks to her whenever he's lonely or scared, and he doesn't know she's been listening and accepting his offerings kinda desperately until he finally dies in the cave......... she grants him divinity in death and he becomes Regulus, her consort: the god of caves, drowned souls, and redemption.......

Honey, our boyfriend drowned!
Barbie dolls: jegulus x gn!reader
Word:5.1k
Summary: lemme set the scene: Regulus' car crashes into the lake on his drive to work most definitely killing him and then some mystique happens and I get too lazy to write actual plot but I add some sad and cute and JUST FUCKING READ IT ITS FUN AND NICE
Warnings: regulus dies (or does he mwhahaahha), lots.of talk of grief and death and blood and nasty and self hatred you and James are going through it, regulus with a cane and long hair, talks of the war but it's the tiniest mention, Barty has attachment issues, there is some cringe bc believe it or not Im cringey as a person so it just happens, regulus speaks Google translate French, James speaks Google translate Hindi, I had so much fun writing this.one and that's so stupid bc Its literally about death but it was a hoot, brotherly love, peter included SUCK MY DiCK OH MY GOD, oh James takes a picture OH and there's a cordless phone but I was personally thinking of the big clunky ones that sat on the wall you know, insinuations of the cave, Sirius says Jesus Christ in shock you say Gods no in shock yodabba dabba, everyone are friends I watched MLP okay everyone loves each other now, take a shot everytime I say warm, you cry, I quit
While you and James were in school, you started dating a boy named Regulus. He was beautiful and graceful. Your relationship continued outside the bounds of the school walls. Once you and James graduated you got a home and Regulus joined you both a year later when he graduated. Domestic life was wonderful for the three of you. And then Regulus died.
It was hard to believe. How could your boyfriend disappear right out from under both of your noses? He left for work one day and didn’t come back. It was like the world paused after that. The walls wept with you both. The house seemed smaller and tighter because everywhere you looked were remnants of him. His books were on the shelf with his writing inside. His additions to the grocery list were still on the fridge. His fancy shoes for events sitting by the door. His winter coat is on the rack. You could still smell his cologne. Maybe that was because James would spray it on Regulus' pillow and clutch it to his chest while he slept. Your day together as a couple consisted of sitting on the couch in silence and staring ahead listening to the clock tick.
His death put a strain on your relationship. You could barely take care of yourselves. How could you love another person when you could barely work up enough energy to cry? So you both floated around the house silently like you were the ones dead. You didn’t talk to James for weeks.
Everyone around you seemed to take a hit from Regulus’ death. Evans and Barty became reclusive, you hadn’t heard from them in months.
Dorcas started bouncing around her friends’ homes, staying the night on a new person’s couch because she was scared to leave anyone alone. They’d slip from her grasp like Regulus did if she didn’t stay with them.
After a few weeks, Mary and Lily took on the role of caretaker. Bringing people dinners and shoving them into the shower so they’d bathe every once in and while.
Marlene tried to crack jokes with people, she was most definitely the kind of person to joke until her pain went away.
Pandora spent all her days sitting in a rocking chair in front of the window. You checked on her once and asked her how she was. She told you, without looking away from the window, ‘I had a premonition about this four years ago. It’s scarier in real life. I can’t just crawl into his bed and press my fingers to his pulse. I’m living in a nightmare.’ You sighed and patted her shoulder, leaving her with the wisest words you could muster: ‘Me too, Panda. Me too.’
Peter is in the nearest Library every day, reading all of Regulus’ favorites. He even came over a few times to borrow some of Regulus’ personal books.
Remus found a French cookbook and started making his way through it one recipe at a time as a way to get up and do something. He said he thought of Regulus with each dish and it made the pain recede like an ocean wave.
Sirius took it the hardest, for obvious reasons. He laid on his couch all day, staring at the bookshelf next to the TV. Remus said he couldn’t convince Sirius to move to the bed. He’d only to get up to use the bathroom. Remus would have to sit next to the couch on the floor and feed him so he didn’t wither away. Remus eventually realized Sirius was staring at the picture of him and Regulus sitting on the shelf. After a long time, Sirius finally moved from the couch, instead taking his tears to his bed. You didn’t see Sirius for weeks.
When Regulus’ funeral arrived it was obvious the impact he left. All 12 of you stared at the empty coffin as it settled into the ground. You didn’t even get the peace of knowing his body was resting in the coffin. They never found it. They found his car in the lake with a massive hole the size of his fancy car on the side of the bridge overhead. The police said his body probably drifted down the attached river into the woods. It was likely his body was scavenged by animals. It did nothing to settle your mind.
Your lover drowned and then was torn apart by wild animals? Great, glad he’s resting peacefully. All of his things were in the car too. The book he was trying to finish during the month of the crash. His bag with his wallet and every other personal item you could think of. He even still had Pandora’s hair clip on the strap. His blood was on the seat and front windshield. Cops said it was impossible for him to have survived, especially with the amount of blood that was lost. He left for work, taking the route he always did, and died in the process.
It took a long time but you all eventually healed from it. Of course, it still hurt when you were reminded of it but you slowly got back to your average life.
Sirius got off the couch. Dorcas slept in her own bed. Marlene finally cried. Lily and Mary started making food only for themselves. Remus put his cookbook on the shelf, next to the picture. Peter moved out of the libraries, finding new books. Barty and Evan even joined you and James on a double date once. Pandora moved away from the window. You and James stopped being zombies dancing around each other. You finally talked it through and cradled the other through the night, Regulus' pillow was shoved into the closet.
You asked your friends for help to pack all of Regulus’ things into boxes. It was terribly hard to move on when his presence was still staring you in the eye. You told Sirius he could stay home but he still showed up. He helped you pack up Regulus’ clothes, taking back the band shirts Regulus stole from him. He even used one as a tissue when he cried about it.
With too many people in your house, you were all able to stuff Regulus into three separate boxes. Remus helped James move them into the attic. even though you wanted him hidden away in boxes didn’t mean you wanted to sell his presence away. You hugged everyone goodbye. It was a sour goodbye, the memory of Regulus’ loss fresh on their minds but happy they got to see all their friends again.
You, along with all the others, had your good and bad days. You’d say an inside joke Regulus came up with and spend the rest of the day crying next to the window. Some days you’d blossom and be like you were years ago. As time went by your bad days became more and more far apart. You and James’ relationship was going strong, you felt like you were in school again. In a positive way.
After a long brunch with Remus and Sirius full of laughs, you and James went home and relaxed. James left to go take a nap and you started reading by the window facing out towards the road that led to your doorstep. After you got through four chapters, James was rising from his nap and kissing you good morning. Though it was really more of a late afternoon, you didn’t correct him. He left to go make himself a snack, still in his pajamas. You continued reading.
As you heard the timer go off for James’ food you glanced up to see if he was getting it. You saw him through the opening, reaching over for the pot on the oven. You moved to look back at your book, pausing when you saw someone on the sidewalk. You were an avid enjoyer of people-watching.
It was a man who left your boots feeling shaken. His hair was longer, reaching down to kiss his back between his shoulder blades. He walked with a limp. He was classily dressed. At the top of his cane was a bird skull. He was dressed in all black and had various silver jewelry hanging from his body. His hair was falling into his face as he stared at the ground. You glanced down at the ground to see his shoes, finding they were just as fancy and put together as he was. You looked back up at his hair, trying to see if you could figure out how he maintained it so perfectly.
As you dragged your eyes up, he shook his head back. His hair flew back revealing his scarred face. There was a scar parting his eyebrow and making a trail across his cheek to his ear. You saw one peeking out from the bottom of his jaw and dipping under his high-collared shirt.
Even with all the changes you recognized him. You sprung out of your chair, flinging your book back towards the coffee table. You heard it clatter to the floor.
“James! Call Sirius!” You yelled as you scattered towards the front door, knocking over items on your way.
“What? Why?” James asked from the kitchen opening. You spun your head back towards him. You probably looked like a frazzled crazy person. You felt like a frazzled crazy person. You were either hallucinating or really watching your dead lover walk down the street.
“Call Sirius, James.” You said, your tone nipping at his hand and making him turn around for the phone hanging in the kitchen. You flung open the front door, ignoring your shoes and the fact the door smacked against the wall.
You weren’t entirely sure Regulus, or at least what you thought was Regulus, wouldn’t run away if he saw you coming. You ran down the concrete steps and your driveway. You ignored the fire the rough ground started on the bottoms of your feet. James stood on front doorstep with the phone pressed to his ear. You caught snippets of his words as you moved to the end of the driveway, staring down the sidewalk.
“I don’t know.” Your chest heaved as your mind caught up with what you were looking at. “Just said to call you.” You stared at the man in black walking down the center of the sidewalk. “Bein’ weird.” You saw the man stop his walking as you stood in his way.
“Regulus?” You yelled. The man stood still. You took a step towards him. James had settled silent. “Regulus? Baby, is that you?” You yelled down the sidewalk. He was standing on the sidewalk in front of your neighbor's house, still staring at the ground. Hr pulled his head up, facing you. Even from a far distance, you could recognize him.
Your body started running before your brain could even tell you to. Regulus picked up his pace, a nice brisk walk. You doubted he could go much faster with his apparent hurt leg but you didn’t care. Your undead lover was on your sidewalk. You picked up your pace, letting your lungs burn. Your heart was burning more, the pain from knowing you’d never see Regulus mixing with the hope that he was really walking down your sidewalk.
“Holy shit.” You heard James say from the first doorstep. “Listen uh, Sirius, I’m going to have to call you back. I think we might be hallucinating right now.” James said. You heard the quiet clatter of the phone on the table next to the front door. You and Regulus stopped with barely two feet between you too. Your chest heaved. You thought your ribs might explode.
Regulus was beautiful even with the scars and obvious dark experiences lingering behind his eyes. You couldn’t imagine what happened in the past year and a half but he was still Regulus after all this time. You felt like you shouldn’t cry because he might feel guilty and leave again. You closed the gap between you two, wrapping your arms around him. Regulus sighed with his chin pulled over your shoulder. You heard his cane drop to the sidewalk, his weight leaning into yours.
You gripped the onto the back of his shirt, crying into his shoulder. Regulus held onto you just as hard. You felt James’ arms join yours, holding onto Regulus. After a few moments of Regulus finally feeling at home and you and James realizing you did all that crying for nothing, you all pulled back. Regulus wobbled a second, before leaning on his other side. James quickly dipped down and held Regulus’ cane out to him. Regulus thanked him, leaning his weight back on the cane.
“You’re alive.” You said, sticking your hands your hands out at Regulus. He gave you a one-shouldered shrug.
“There’s a lot I need to tell you,” Regulus muttered, glancing down at the cane. You shook your head, reaching out for him again. You let your hands cup his face.
“Oh let me look at you.” You traced the scars on his face. You tugged lightly on the ends of his hair. You let your hands dip down, tracing over the necklaces. You looked down at the metal skull buckle on his belt, grinning at his fancy shoes again. Even after all the changes, he was still in his stupid shoes.
“You’re so beautiful, my love. I can’t believe you’re alive.” You said, cupping his face again. Regulus hummed and tilted his face into your hand. You pulled back and let James pull Regulus into his arms. James cradled Regulus’ head to his chest just as he used to when Regulus got bad nightmares. Regulus let out a gasping sob, digging his nails into James’ forearm. James closed his eyes and pressed his nose to Regulus’ hair.
A few minutes later Regulus was sat at the table with his favorite tea hugged between his hands. You watched him from across the table, tracking his every move. It was weird looking at him. Aside from the fact you thought he was dead, it was a stark change.
You got to watch James slowly change parts of himself over the year. The wrinkles near his eyes got more prominent, he cut his hair, and he got new shoes, etcetera. You went from seeing Regulus with hair shorter than his chin to watching him flick it over his shoulder. You saw him with the clear and pristine skin he took pride in the scarred look he was sporting now. Regulus pursed his lips and blew on the hot tea in his hands before flicking his eyes up to you. You didn’t shy away from the fact you were staring at him. James wandered into the dining room his phone pressed to his ear.
“No Sirius, I’m being ser-I’m being for real. You need to get over here now, you’re not going to believe this.” James said, leaning on the doorframe and staring at Regulus. Regulus stuck his hand out at James, wiggling his fingers. James raised an eyebrow ‘You sure?’. Regulus shook his hand, ‘yes.’. James handed the phone to Regulus. Regulus pressed the phone to his ear. He cleared his throat.
“That coffin was uncomfortable, dickhead.” Regulus said before pulling the phone away from his ear and hanging it up. He set it on the table and took a slow sip from his tea.
“I think you just gave him a heart attack,” James said. You hummed, staring down at the phone.
“Yeah I’m not sure if that was the best action but it was a very Regulus thing for you to do so at least some things haven’t changed. “ You said, handing the phone off to James. Regulus closed his eyes as he pulled his tea away from his lips.
Minutes later Sirius was bursting through your door with Remus tailing fast behind him. Sirius peered into each room, making haste to search the house. Regulus set his tea down. Sirius stood in the dining room doorway, frozen in place. Regulus stood from his chair, leaning on his cane and sighing as he did so. He tilted his head to the side, making a small spin to show off his new look.
“Jesus Christ,” Sirius muttered.
“that’s who he looks like, I was trying to place it,”  you said, sighing and smacking James’ bicep. Regulus faces Sirius again, holding his arm out. Sirius closed the space, pulling Regulus into a hug. They rocked side to side. You thought of shooing everyone out but you also wanted to watch Sirius’ reaction. Sirius pulled back and smacked Regulus on the crown of his head. Regulus glared at him, obviously, it wasn’t hard.
“Don’t you ever do that again you dick,” Sirius said, before cupping Regulus’ face. He grimaced and shook his head.
“You look like me in fourth year,” Sirius whispered, running his hand through the length of Regulus’ hair. Regulus hummed.
“I thought so too. I missed home, so I grew it out. I plan on trimming it soon though, not really me.” Regulus whispered. Sirius hummed and traced the scar down Regulus’ eyebrow with his thumb.
“What’d you do?” Sirius asked.
“I ended a war before it started, the usual break year plans. I almost drowned and fought off some weird gremlin things. It’s a story.” Regulus said, waving off Sirius’ look of concern. “I’m fine now, other than the trauma I hold with water. But I managed to figure it out. I just take showers weird now.” Regulus added, once again downplaying the severity.
“Well, your funeral was a waste of time,” Sirius said, turning back around to stand next to Remus. Regulus shrugged.
“Did you guys cry?” You, James, Remus, and Sirius shared looks. You all shrugged.
“Eh, not really.”
“I mean what even classifies as crying these days, you know.”
"So much I got dehydrated"
“After the first couple of days, it was a breeze.” Regulus rolled his eyes and pulled his tea off the table.
“So did you guys sell all my shit?” He whispered into his cup. You and James quickly shook your heads.
“Oh gods, no. It’s all in the attic.” You said, pointing at the ceiling above you. James and Remus left for the attic as you and Sirius chased after Regulus. Regulus took his tea from the dining room to the living room, setting it on the coffee table. You and Sirius stared at him as he settled onto the couch. Regulus propped his cane against the side table, taking a sip from his tea. Regulus lifted an eyebrow at the floor. He leaned over and held your book up.
“Thought I taught you better than to throw books,” Regulus said, setting the book on the coffee table. You crossed your arms over your chest. You scoffed.
“I was a little more focused on my undead lover walking into my garden.” You said. Regulus shrugged and gently set the book down on the coffee table. Regulus kicked his foot up, resting his ankle on his knee. James and Remus joined you with all three boxes. They were all labeled with a different form of his name, three different handwritings. Evan wrote R.A.B. in his swirly handwriting. Sirius had written Regulus in his pristine handwriting. You scribbled down Reggie on the top with an almost empty Sharpie. It looked like you didn’t care but you couldn’t bear to look at the boxes any more than you had to.
Regulus leaned forward, tearing open the nearest box. He started rummaging through it and you wished Evan was here. You couldn’t fold things as perfectly as he could. Regulus pulled out his favorite stuffed animal, setting it on the couch next to him. He closed the box, reaching for the next one. He tore it open just as fast. He pulled out his favorite blanket and book. Regulus threw the blanket next to his stuffed animal. He set the book on the coffee table and as you watched him close up the box again, you sucked in a shaky breath. Regulus lifted his head, looking at you. You turned into James’ arms. James tightened his hold. You hated to get James’ shirt dirty but watching Regulue tear through the boxes you were sure you’d never touch again made your throat close up.
“Sorry did I do something?” You heard Rehgulus’ voice behind you. James’ hand ran up and down your back. You felt SIrius’ hand land on your shoulder.
“No, we’re just processing, I think. Lots of changes today.” James said, rocking you back and forth. Sirius took on the role of changing the subject so you still had a little bit of dignity.
“We need to call the others. I mean this is a big change we’ll have to get every-“ Regulus cut off Sirius.
“Listen, I know okay. I know, but I haven’t felt at home in over a year. I just want to spend today here. Tomorrow I will tell everyone of my resurrection but right now I just want a nap. You and Remus can stay if you want, I really don’t care. As long as I get a nap on the couch, I’m okay. I will gather everyone tomorrow but today is just..” Regulus sighed, a visible weight lifting from his shoulders. “Just for me. Is that okay?” Regulus asked. Sirius stayed silent a moment. He glanced around the living room. He shrugged, looking back at Regulus.
“Yeah, that’s okay.” Regulus slipped his shoes off, setting them next to his cane, and laid across the couch. You pulled back from James, wiping at your eyes. You headed off for the bedroom, tearing open the closet. You pulled down Regulus’ pillow and brought it back to the living room. Regulus gave you a soft smile and gently took the pillow from your hands. He set it down before quickly sandwiching your hands between his. He was warm, not cold like a dead body. Maybe he was real. Regulus stared up at you.
“I learned how to cook traditional French dishes,” Remus said, picking at one of the boxes. Regulus hummed. He was on the brink of sleep but still wanted Remus to feel heard. “You should come over for dinner some night.” Regulus nodded against his pillow. Remus left after SIrius and not long after you heard SIrius’ motorcycle fade away. You imagined Remus’ long legs cramped behind Sirius on the back of his bike and snorted.
“I love you, you know that? Every day I wasn’t here I worried for you. I missed you so much I’d feel sick. I’m sorry I left like that.” Regulus said. Your eyebrows pinched and you sank your teeth into your bottom lip, trying your hardest to not cry again. You nodded. Regulus hummed and pressed your palm to his lips. You sighed and rubbed his cheek lightly. He dropped your hands and laid back on the couch, now with his pillow propped behind his head.
Regulus turned onto his side, clutching his stuffed animal to his chest. He pulled his blanket up to his nose. Sirius stood next to Regulus, brushing hair out of his face and gently rubbing his cheek before roughly smacking him and messing up his hair again. Regulus groaned and swatted his hands away. Sirius pulled back and slipped out the front door.
“Mon Soleil?” Regulus whispered into his blanket. You glanced at James, watching his water line fill.
“छोटा राजा?”  James whispered, his voice fragile. You looked back to Regulus. His eyes were still closed.
When James heard Regulus’ snores next to his ear he slid the bookmark into their place and set it on the coffee table. James leaned his head back, resting it on the couch armrest. You sighed, watching Regulus sleep peacefully.
“Read to me?” Regulus asked. James nodded and grabbed the book Regulus pulled from the box off the coffee table. James sat on the floor next to where Regulus head was on the couch. He opened the book to the page they left off last time, and you felt like James might cry. He started reading and as he went on you started to wish Regulus had given you a task too. You were just standing there watching them. You quietly joined James on the floor. You sat a foot and a half away from James. He paused his sentence for a second to look up at you and give you a soft smile. You returned it and slipped a hand under Regulus’ blanket. It probably smelled like the attic but Regulus didn’t seem to care, snoozing away. You rested your hand on his hip, lightly rubbing it before getting your hand to sit. You wished to hold his hand but one was clutching his stuffed animal and the other was pressing his blanket to his face.
“I don’t think we’ll be getting much sleep tonight.” You whispered, not wanting to wake up Regulus. James turned his head to face you. He reached over and held onto your other hand, kissing the back. He nodded and looked over towards the wall.
“I feel like we shouldn’t go to sleep because when we wake up, the boxes will be back in the attic. Sirius will be back on the couch and we’ll be sitting on the bed sobbing together.”James whispered. You humed. You slipped your thumb under the edge of Regulus’ shirt, pressing your finger into his warm skin.
“He won’t be warm anymore.” You muttered, eyes still caught on Regulus. James’ thumb rubbed against the back of your hand. You wondered if he was testing to see if you were warm still.
“We’ll visit his grave on Wednesday together and wonder if those wild animals were well fed. If it was all worth it. Stare down at the dirt and know six feet under is an empty wooden box with nothing but a copy of Regulus’ favorite poetry book inside.” James’ voice wobbled and you gripped his hand tighter.
“I thought every day that I would wake up and it’d all be a nightmare. I was just dreaming. All those crime shows got to me and my brain inserted me into an episode while I was sleeping. Every morning I’d wake up to find out we were still planning his funeral. I thought I was dead for a while. Thought this was my punishment for not recycling enough or something.” You said, pressing your thumb further into Regulus’ skin. Not to hurt him, but you needed to feel his pulse.
“I can’t go back there,” James whispered.
“Then maybe we go to sleep tonight. Maybe we’ll wake up and he’ll be in bed with us.” You said giving the side of James' face a sour smile.
“Then we start again. We heal again.” James gave you a sad look and stared ahead again. You decided to lighten the mood a little. “And we had a freaky joint dream.” James snorted. He sniffed and stared down at his lap. He kissed the back of your hand again. You focused on Regulus’ skin under your finger. Still warm.
“And if we wake up to find ourselves right back where we started? What then?” James asked, turning his head to face you. You paused for a moment and let his words stir in your head. You thought about getting thrown right back into that dark and messy place.
You didn’t take showers unless Mary forced you and you hated yourself for everything you did. Why didn’t you stop Regulus and tell him to stay home that day? Why didn’t you drive him to work yourself? Why didn’t you deviate from your routine, anything to save Regulus’ life? And when you got over what ifs that could’ve stopped this all from happening, then you hated yourself for not helping James more. Why couldn’t you take care of him? His parents called every day and he could barely pull himself out of bed to answer the phone. You couldn’t look away from the floor to pick the phone up. You picked apart yourself with sharp nails and then let your pieces rot into something awful that barely resembled yourself anymore. All in the name of grief.
“So sorry to break up such a sweet moment, however I am trying to sleep. So if you two could shut up: that’d be preferable. “ You heard Regulus say. James turned his head back, glancing at Regulus. He looked back at you.
“Seems pretty real to me.” You whispered.
Regulus stayed true to his word, calling every one of your friends to your home. When he joined them in the living room there were screams and cries and most definitely noise complaints from the neighbors. Barty fell to his knees, taking Regulus down with him, and sobbed into his hair. He was an ugly crier too, saliva connecting his two lips when he opened his mouth in a silent cry.
Dorcas and Evan were quick to join them on the floor, wrapping Regulus up in a sea of arms. Probably the first body of water he felt comfortable in a while.
Eventually, Regulus made it to his feet, giving everyone their own hug. Peter told him he had books he found that Regulus would enjoy. Mary smacked him on the back of the head and told him to brighten the fuck up before dragging him into a tight hug. Lily told him she had a new bread recipe she’d been meaning to try. Marlene cracked a stupid joke through her tears and lightly punched Regulus in the arm. Regulus made it to Pandora and she pulled him to her chest, squeezing him as tight as she could.
“I didn’t see this.” She whispered in his hair. Regulus gripped her back just as tight.
You all had a warm dinner made by Remus and Lily. Regulus and Sirius share a nostalgic look after the first bite. You didn’t have a big enough table so you all crowded into the living room, gathering around the rug. Regulus earned a spot on the couch. Barty was at his feet, arms wrapped around Regulus’ leg.
James shot up halfway through dinner, dashing across the house. He came back with his camera. He took one shot of everyone in the living room before turning the camera around and squeezing himself into frame too. He labeled them both ‘Regulus’ first family dinner back’ on the backs. He added the date and set the camera and photos on the kitchen counter deciding to deal with them later.
On his way back into the living room, he kissed you before pecking Regulus on the cheek. As he settled back into his seat on the floor, the group broke into ruckus laughter from a joke Sirius made. Sirius beamed and your and James’ eyes shot for Regulus. You found him snorting out his tea through his nose. His pain, disgust, and laughter all conjoined and you knew when you woke up tomorrow, he’d once again be in your bed. Warm.

when james dies, he does not see the white light that he expected, but the concerned frown of somebody he was not just fond of, but devoted to.
"you weren't supposed to die, not yet," the man seemed to be more distraught than james was, face pale in the dim light.
james smiled sadly, cheeks stained with tears that he didn't remember shedding, "neither were you,"
they were supposed to meet on the other side of the war. a flat would be bought in wizard london, and james would be an auror. regulus would be a professional quidditch player, though he would retire at the peak of his career and decide to teach. without the looming threat of the war, their lives would be dull.
the highlight of their weeks would be the nights where they'd curl up on the sofa, limbs intertwined as if they were foolish teenagers again, and talk until the sun piqued the clouds. work would get in the way, but they'd always find time for eachother, and those which they loved.
even when james was throwing himself into danger, which could never compare to his experiences in the Order.
even when regulus got home, knackered from days of teaching loud teenagers.
that was a pipe dream now, something that james would dream about sometimes.
"you waited for me," james whispered. if he spoke any louder, the image would evaporate into the air.
"of course," regulus took the man's hands in his own, guiding him to his feet, "i would've waited for you forever, allowing that i could've seen your face once more. heaven or hell, on the earth or in the stars... i would have waited for you to join me,"

An Arrangement- Regulus Black (Part 2)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Regulus Black
Warnings: Arranged marriage
Word Count: 2k
A/N: So here is part 2 to the rewrite of An Arrangement, I hope you enjoy! As always requests are open! I’ve been really into writing for Regulus so far so I’m open to any ideas!
The days following her engagement had somehow blown by and dragged on all the same. Her day-to-day life had changed minimally since; a fact that she found relieving in a sense, but disheartening nonetheless.
She’d imagined that the days following her engagement would be full of blissful love. That she wouldn’t even want to leave her partner’s side because she couldn’t bear to be apart from them. Instead, she had a fiance that she hadn’t seen since their “engagement party”, and to be honest she was dreading having to face him again.
It was nothing against Regulus personally. She just wasn’t quite sure how she was supposed to act towards him just yet. How do you converse with your fiance that you’ve had maybe two conversations with? What if he turned out to be an ass? What if he decided that he hated her?
She supposed that it wouldn’t matter either way. They’d already made an unbreakable vow. It was–as the name suggested–unbreakable. One couldn’t just change their mind after that. They were tethered to one another permanently; all for their families’ benefits. What those benefits were, they would probably never know.
She boarded the Hogwarts Express with much less enthusiasm than usual. She dragged her feet down the aisle until she found an empty seat.
The train smelled of warm vanilla, a scent that had become a comfort over the years; an indication that she was on her way home. The castle had always felt more like home than her own house, a feeling that was beginning to make more sense the older she grew. Her parents had been so eager to get rid of her, marrying her off to the highest bidder it seemed.
Students continued to file through the train cars as she found an empty compartment to slip into. She laid her head against the cool glass of the window, hoping that she wouldn’t be bothered.
Outside, many of the first years were saying goodbye to their families. Their mothers held onto them tightly as they cried. She wondered why her own mother had never been so affectionate. She didn’t think that she had a particularly bad childhood, but she couldn’t recall a time in which either of her parents had seemed remotely interested in her. She didn’t have any siblings that took their attention. They just acted as though they had no child at all.
She just wondered what her mother had received that was worth signing over her daughter’s entire future. Tears welled in her eyes, but she brushed them away quickly. She didn’t want anyone to see her cry. Word traveled fast and it wouldn’t be long before everyone knew that she had been bawling on the train, and she didn’t feel like answering any questions.
“(Y/N), it’s good to see you!” A familiar voice echoed through the compartment. “I was a little afraid that you might’ve died or something given that you haven’t responded to my owls all summer,” Geoff joked, though there was a slight accusatory tone. She wouldn’t say it, but she couldn’t help but think that she wished she was.
To be honest, she’d forgotten about Geoff and the promises she’d made to write to him over the summer. Geoff was a sweet Ravenclaw boy that had graciously offered to help her in potions the year prior, quite literally might have kept her from getting failing marks.
Geoff pushed his rectangular glasses up the bridge of his nose and pushed his shaggy blonde hair away from his eyes. He was the total opposite of Regulus, she noticed. Regulus was tall and lanky, while Geoff was more average height and stocky. He was still handsome–though she supposed that she probably shouldn’t say that given the fact that she was now engaged.
“Sorry, I’ve been…busier than I expected to be.” It wasn’t necessarily a lie. She might’ve been wrong, but she considered practically being forced into making an unbreakable vow to be substantially more eventful than anyone could’ve imagined their summer before their sixth year to be.
“Is this where you’re sitting?” Geoff gestured to the empty seat next to her. She nodded, hoping that her lack of verbal confirmation would deter him from wanting to pursue a conversation, though that would be asking for too much. “Well, I set up with some friends a bit further back, but I’ll tell them I’m moving. I’d hate for you to be all by yourself.”
“That’s alright, Geoff. I-”
“What she means is that won’t be necessary, Geoff. She won’t be sitting alone.”The familiar scent of mahogany and fresh parchment filled her nostrils.
Regulus had arrived so suddenly and silently that she hadn’t even noticed him approaching until he spoke. She supposed that it was quite similar to how he arrived in her life as well.
He plopped next to her, linking their hands before shooting Geoff a sly smirk. Geoff stood there, a puzzled look on his face before Regulus spoke again.
“Now, if you could leave us, I’d like to enjoy the train ride with my girlfriend.” She couldn’t help but internally wince at the word. It seemed quite diminishing to what their situation is. Granted, she couldn’t think of a more appropriate one. Fiance was too formal, they weren’t officially married, so wife wouldn’t work.
Geoff looked between the two of them, a flicker of hurt crossing his features before he regained composure. “Alright, I suppose I’ll see you later then.” Geoff straightened his back before rejoining his friends.
“That wasn’t very nice, you know.” She shot Regulus a glare. It was one thing to be forced into a marriage, but she wouldn’t be policed on who she could or couldn’t converse with. She hadn’t wanted this, and it wasn’t as though she could pursue Geoff even if she’d wanted to, so there was no threat to Regulus whatsoever.
“Well, I don’t generally enjoy watching others flirt with my future wife. I’ve never really been good at sharing, ask Sirius.” She didn’t give him a response, earning a huff from the brunette. “You’re right, that may have been a bit excessive.”
“May have,” she scoffed. “I think that might be a bit of an understatement. He’s just a friend.”
“Are you sure that he knows that?” Regulus raised an eyebrow.
“It’s not like you have anything to worry about even if he didn’t,” she retorted.
Regulus shook his head in annoyance. “I have something for you,” he said bluntly. He dug a small box from his pocket and placed it in her hand. “And before you freak out on me, this isn’t because of Geoff. I already thought of it.”
The box itself was small, but it felt as though it weighed about two tons as she turned it over in her hand.
“Thank you.” She swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat. A ring just made the whole thing more official. It made it harder for her to ignore and pretend like it was all just a sick twisted dream concocted by her imagination.
She flipped open the lid of the black velvet box and was greeted by a dainty gold band with a small stone sitting in the center. It was a beautiful ring, one that she surely would have fawned over had she received it under different circumstances. Looking at it, though, she couldn’t bring herself to be anything other than melancholy.
“I know it’s a bit forward, but I just thought that it might be nice for you to wear something that made you seem a little less… available.” Regulus looked at her, awaiting a response.
“And I suppose you’ll be capable of just saying ‘no thank you’ to any sort of advances, then?” She wasn’t trying to be rude, but it just didn’t feel fair. He garnered far more admirers than she did, and yet she was the one being forced to wear a ring representing the relationship that she hadn’t wanted in the first place.
A smile played on his lips as he took in her expression. He would find it funny. He’d seemed to find the whole situation thus far to be not that big of a deal. She wanted to hit him. She really wanted to hit him, but she refrained. It wouldn’t do much good to get herself expelled.
“On the contrary, I actually thought that it might be a nice statement for both of us, thank you very much.” He held up his left hand flashing a thick silver band on his ring finger.
She quickly averted her gaze, not wanting him to see her flustered. She also didn’t want to see the gloating expression that he was surely wearing at the moment.
“It looks like we’re properly engaged now,” she said glumly. She looked down at her own hand that now adorned the ring, symbolizing their bond–whatever that bond was. She bit the inside of her cheek, doing her best to keep her face from telling on her current inner turmoil. She was angry at the situation, of course, but at the end of the day, it wasn’t Regulus’ fault. He was most likely forced into this just as much as she was. He was just handling it with more grace than she was.
“Well, that was kind of the point.”
She rolled her eyes at his matter-of-fact tone. He was handsome, but that didn’t make up for the fact that his personality grated on her nerves. Every time she started to feel like perhaps he wasn’t so bad, he was able to completely run that thought from her mind with his sarcastic quips or general sense of entitlement.
The train started to move and she laid her head back against the window. Pretty soon, Platform 9 ¾ was far behind them and the mountains were in full view. The scenery was beautiful, and usually she was eager to be completely immersed into the landscape for the four hours that it took to get to Hogwarts, even though it was the same landscape that she’d seen for the past five years. She couldn’t appreciate it as much as she normally did, though. The experience dulled by her current predicament.
The train ride was surprisingly silent from that point on, Regulus offering little to no input. She found it to be quite out of character for him. She looked over to check if he was still there, and was greeted by his sleeping form.
Soft snores escaped from his lips and it wasn’t long before his head had slumped on her shoulder. She debated on whether or not she should wake him up,but she found him to be far more bearable when he was asleep. His hair smelled like cinnamon, she noticed. She liked it.
She found herself studying his features for the first time. She couldn’t really explain the feelings that she had. She’d found herself in the strange predicament of being engaged to practically a stranger, and while she did find him to be quite attractive, she didn’t love him, nor did she want to marry him. Maybe she would have, had their relationship started in a more traditional fashion, but with the current state of things, she felt forced. If she did grow to love him, there would always be that part of her that would wonder whether it was true or if it was because she was supposed to feel that way.
Regulus stirred beside her, drawing her from her thoughts. “I’m sorry,” he mumbled drowsily, sitting up. “I didn’t mean to fall asleep.”
“It’s alright, you only drooled a little bit,” she teased. He shot her a cross look, though his eyes held a bit of amusement. “I’m only joking, don’t worry. You weren’t asleep for long, only about a half hour or so.”
“Oh good.” He nodded, his demeanor still groggy. “Wouldn’t want you to think I was bored of you.” She wasn’t quite sure how to take that. Was he bored of her? It wouldn’t matter if he was, she supposed. There wasn’t much that could be done about that now. Though she still found herself a little bit upset by the notion, whether it was true or not.

Crimson Rivers thoughts pt. 12
chapter 22:
1. 😟😟 all james wants is for sirius to be there for james the way james ALWAYS was for sirius
2. 😟 james wished hodge happy birthday even though hodge died yesterday. i- i am not okay
3. “Regulus never fails to look up. Evan would be proud of him for that, he thinks.” 😧 that was vile to put in there
4. james has resorted to BEGGING for medicine from sirius and can’t understand why sirius won’t send any. this hurts so bad
5. nope. i’m done. i can’t read any more. james started looking forward to death cause he would be out of this arena and out of pain. jfc i’m done
6. anyways. i’m back cause i couldn’t stop reading.
7. REGULUS AND JAMES ARE REUNITED!!! THANK GOD!!! 😊
8. 😧 wait nevermind. james just mistook regulus for sirius. “James has never, not once in his life under any circumstances, mistaken Regulus for Sirius”
9. james is delulu from medicine and reg just found out that the plan has always been to get reg home. this hits like a motherfucking truck
10. james is high as a fucking kite, can’t figure out why “sirius” is being mean to him, cause he’s never been mean to him. and is also wondering why “sirius” is oddly attractive for being mean
11. it takes james half a chapter, and reg cutting his shirt for james to realize it’s not sirius. cause sirius has different scars. i love james sm 😭😭
12. “What was Sirius thinking? Drugging James? In the middle of the fucking hunger games? That might be the most idiotic thing Regulus has ever known his brother to do, and this is Sirius he's talking about, so that's saying a lot. Sirius once flipped a cigarette in the air and tried to catch it with his mouth while it was lit, and kept doing it until he could actually consistently manage it, no matter how much it burned him. Though, in fairness, he can still do that trick to this day.”
LMAO WHAT??? that’s so random and i love it
13. 😧 legit sobbing. reg says that james lost the spark in his eyes. and he’s the one person he expected to never lose his spark
14. reg reveals that they both can go home. james’ spark is back. i’m sobbing harder now. they’re so in love
15. i eat, breathe, and dream those author end notes. bizzarestars writes their end notes the way my brain processes the fic. <33
chapter 23:
1. starting the chapter off with pain, i see. losing vanity changed james. like. horribly changed him.
2. “What Regulus hates more than James is his suffering.” jfc he’s so emotionally constipated
3. james is sad and all reg can think is hmmmm i want him to start flirting with me again, because it meant he was happy bitch wtf
4. awww they’re cuddling and just got a package! my babies are gonna make it out!
5. reg realizes he has to put on a show, so he offers to feed james. and wants to gouge his eyeballs out for offering that. 😭😭😭😭
6. i’m dying from embarrassment but this is also so fucking funny. reg is like. let’s talk about our feelings. for each other. and james is just like *head tilt* ???
7. “"You weren't my first crush, James," Regulus whispers. "You were my first love."”
james didn’t just make reg feel good, he made reg feel and i am NOT okay.
8. “This whole time, Regulus has been steady on the fact that he wouldn't kiss James to save his own life, but he's apparently willing to do it to save James'.”
JFC why is he so emotionally constipated???
9. THEY KISS????? james is gonna be heartbroken when he realizes it was all an act
10. oh thank god james realized. at least it broke his heart now and not in two weeks
11. *squints* now reg has never wanted anything more than this kiss. girl. please. realize.
12. god, i’ve never read a kiss more beautifully and emotionally desperate written.
13. 😏 reg called him baby again!
14. oh god, maybe i’m just as bad as everyone in the hallow. maybe i’m just as bad as them. cause i enjoy their romance. i enjoy it so much. maybe i’m just as bad as the hallow for that. i- i think this every time i read the hunger games.
15. “James wants to sink his teeth into Regulus and leave the deep imprints of his teeth from one jutting hip bone to the other.” sometimes i forget that jegulus is a little unhinged in ways like this. and every time i’m reminded, I LOVE IT
16. “"You treat me like I'm stupid for daring to see good in people, but if there's no good in anyone, then what's the fucking point?"”
this entire section. this. this is what james is all about
17. 😟 authors note just told me i’m no better than a hallow. for my excitement over jegulus. and- yeah. i guess so. i’m so sorry y’all

regulus black has been dead for one hundred and twenty-one years and the only voice he knows now is hers. it’s warm, wrapping around his soul and making him feel less alone; less of a memory and more of a person again. he’s still there, lingering, even a century after his death, having his life ripped away from him because of consumption.
what she didn’t know is he wasn’t your average dead man in any dead grave. or maybe she did know that, somewhere deep down. why else would he become her favorite? he felt her favoritism every time she leaned against his tombstone, talking about her days as if he were her friend and not the ghost of someone she would never know. his name is etched on the tombstone, but nothing more remains aside from the bust his mother had sculpted to commemorate her lost son. she had come to his grave to weep at it until consumption took her life as well, dwindling the numbers in the black family to almost nothing.
regulus had a life once, born as the son of a wealthy noble and raised strictly by way of his mother, given better education than most and learning complex science and math others didn’t have access to at a young age. he was familiar with the arts as well, writing and playing piano better than anyone in their town. he even proved to be adept at what was usually saved for the lower class, like caring for animals and livestock. not that his mother was a fan of him being friendly with the local farmers, saying it was beneath his father’s family and they had a reputation to uphold. besides that, there was danger to associating with the common folk because of what they were.
orion black was a successful businessman who amassed wealth through investments and commercial ventures, known even outside of their hometown for his fortune and contributions to various enterprises. orion wanted regulus to manage his estate and investments when he was old enough, although his mother was more worried about teaching him her own family’s ways, including inducting him into the family coven.
many still believed in witches, especially in such a rural area, and regulus’s family wasn’t safe from the persecution they’d face if anyone found out. it was a cult in a sense, regulus being brought up in the ways of the religion; worshiping and sacrificing to the the Horned One in order for their family to keep their powers. the old god was displeased when andromeda left the coven, withholding some of their powers for a time.
unluckily for regulus, this was when he fell ill, soon to meet an untimely fate. stricken with grief, walburga had done what magic she could, not enough to heal him but at least enough to resurrect him if all magical requirements were met.
she harnessed the power of a comet overhead, using its magic to reverse his death once it were to pass over again.
at least, this is how it was explained to regulus just before he died. he waited over a century after, sure that the spell had failed (and even if it didn’t, his loved ones were surely dead anyway).
that is, until he meets her.
she cares for his grave, scrubbing it clean and leaving flowers for him every week. she even gazes at his statue, talking to him as if he could talk back. regulus isn’t man anymore; only spirit, but even so he can see how beautiful she is and he knows she’s the most perfect human being to ever walk the earth. who else would care for someone they don’t know and keep his memory alive more than his family ever did?
one night she gifts him her aunt’s necklace, leaving it on his bust as an offering. he remembers her sweet words, explaining why she wanted him to have it and even murmuring that she wishes she could be with him. it’s then that he’s sure she can feel it, too– his spirit, and the way the two of them are drawn together, even with death and life separating them still.
his soul longs for her, wondering if the comet will pass by sometime before her life is over.
luckily, the night finally comes, and he can feel his awareness shift, being sucked below. once he was apart of the cemetery; apart of the breeze, just another spirit among many. but now he can feel his awareness being siphoned down, pulled into blackness, and then he’s there.
everything is dark, but he can feel his body. he’s almost not sure if this is real, but the weight of the ground is pressing down on him and it’s only because of magic that animates his body that he has the strength to claw his way from the dirt without suffocating. it takes some difficulty, struggling to reach the surface, but he eventually pushes through the ground, emerging from the soil and dragging himself out.
he can breathe, but there’s a hollow feeling in his chest, almost as if he doesn’t have to because he’s dead. dirt falls off of him as he stands on unsteady legs, almost overwhelmed by his surroundings in the overgrown graveyard. the breeze is something he hasn’t felt on his face in over a century, along with the way air rests in his lungs. the moon is shining down on him, round and full, illuminating his tombstone and the bust his mother had made of him just above it.
Tumblr media
he sees her necklace there, glinting in the dark, and shaky fingers reach out to take it, pulling it off for him to hold. it’s significantly nicer than anything on him, his old vest covered in chunks of soil and torn and faded. even the sleeves of his shirt are ripped, even though they were once elegant and of the highest quality white fabric.
he can feel salem through the necklace, as if a pulse of her soul is within it, her beating heart in his hand as he struggles out of the graveyard. her home isn’t far, through the forest and on the edge of a rural neighborhood. he knows because he can sense her, almost as if they’re connected. his mother always said he was the most psychic of the witches in their coven, but now it feels even more true, because his mind leads him directly to the woman he loves.
Tumblr media
he crosses her yard, reaching the front door. he looks like a phantom on her porch, his skin even paler than it was when he was alive, smeared in dirt and grime. his black hair is caked with it too, to the point he’s almost unrecognizable. whatever state he was resurrected to, he knows he isn’t fully human. everything feels muffled and his body is cold; not like he remembered having flesh to be.
he’s sure he would be burned at the stake if anyone were to see him, a warning his family had given him time and time again about their magic. but he opens salem’s door anyway, using supernatural strength to break the lock and open the front door. he can sense her in the living space, just a few feet away, but he isn’t prepared to meet her beautiful blue eyes when he does. if regulus had breath it would’ve been taken from him, his cold fingers tightening on the necklace as he holds it out. / @ghstdoll

I think that when James found out Regulus died he reacted the same way Todd Anderson did when Neil died:
-
Todd felt his head spin. "Oh, my God! Oh, Neill" he wailed as he jumped from his bed and ran down the hall, screaming, to the bathroom. He sat on his knees in the stall and vomited until he thought his guts would come out. His friends waited helplessly outside.
Todd came out of the stall, wiping his mouth.
Tears streamed down his face. He walked back and forth in the bathroom. “Someone has to know it was his father! Neil wouldn't kill himself He loved living!”
"You don't seriously think his father…" Knox said.
"Not with the gun!" Todd shouted. “Damn it, even if the bastard didn't pull the trigger, he….”
Todd's sobs drowned his words until, finally, he controlled himself. "Even if Mr. Perry didn't shoot him," Todd said calmly, "he killed him. They have to know that!" He ran across the room, screaming painfully, "Neil! Neil!" Falling against the wall, he started sobbing again, and the boys left him alone, sitting on the floor, to cry out his grief.
-
Picture that but with James and Regulus, and then have a good day

i can't stop thinking lately about the idea that sirius never got to properly grieve regulus' death. like he dies and its 1979 and sirius is 19 years old in the middle of a war. and people are dying every day and there is pain and horror all around them and there's just no space to really sit with grief, no time, no moment of reprieve. and ofc this is just made worse by regulus' death being more complicated than losing a brother, because sirius hated him even when he still loved him. (and i do think he always loved him. but like. he hated what he was doing. hated who he believed regulus was yk?) there's so much anger and resentment and guilt and regret, and processing that through his grief needs time he doesn't have in the middle of a war.
and then its 1981 and he's thrown in prison and he does have time now, endless time, but he's surrounded by fucking dementors. and all of that pain is just bombarding him day after day. and twelve years go by but every day is the same as the one before, the pain always just as sharp, the wound just as fresh as the day he heard the news. and his grief is so incredibly present but it's not being processed yk, he's not able to actually go through the process of mourning, he never comes out the other side.
and then! and then. he's free but he's a fugitive. he's free but he's not free at all because nearly everyone wants him dead or locked up or stripped of his soul. and idk i don't think he spent the first two years mourning. i think he was too panicked, too anxious, too afraid, too guarded.
and when he finally does have time, where is he but back in fucking grimmauld place. his childhood home. and you know he was thinking about regulus. but it's like, he's got 16 years of pent up grief to deal with and now he's imprisoned in the house he was abused in? that his little brother was also abused in? that he tried to desperately to leave only to end up back there? not to mention everything else he needs to process (other deaths, azkaban, betrayal, being imprisoned in the house of his childhood nightmares, etc etc). and the reminders of regulus are everywhere. suffocating him. memories closing in until he can't breathe for it.
and maybe he would have been able to process that grief, but he only got a year before he died. and when he did, he still hadn't truly mourned his brother to an extent that he could make peace with any of it
