figure 1
James Tissot (French, 1836–1902) • The Ball • 1878
Figure 1: According to French fashionistas, Tissot got the hat all wrong. Apparently hats were inappropriate as evening wear, particularly at a ball. Indeed, when perusing fashion plates of the late 1870s, formal evening attire never included hats.
For formal evening events, hair was styled in elaborate braids, buns, and curls, often adorned with silk flower sprays and fancy clips and combs. Silk flowers were also sometimes used as embellishments for dresses.
A Tissot creation likely inspired by the fashion plates of the day, the evening or ball dress in figure 1 features a bow right at the buttocks followed by a cascade of layered pleats, lace, and ruffles. This style was commonly referred to as The Princess Line dress. Created in Great Britain by Charles Frederick Worth in the form of Princess Alexandra's wedding dress, it soon took off as the latest dress style craze.
French hand fan • Ivory, paper, gouache, mother-of-pearl, metal • 1860-70 • Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Figure 2
Figure 1: In the mid 1870s, the bustle evolved into a less protruding fashion feature and eventually, toward the end of the decade gave way to the mid-bustle or natural form era. This transformation took place from 1877 through approximately 1882. Compared to the large, overstuffed bustles of the early 1870s, the Mid-Bustle, or Natural Form dress created a more vertical, slimming silhouette. The waist was undefined and embellishments began at the back of the waist, or even below it.
Figure 2: It is difficult for a fashion history novice like me to define the correct occasion for this particular dress. It's perhaps a special occasion day or afternoon dress and hence less embellished. Or perhaps the modest satin bow at the hip gives it away as just a regular day dress. In one entry at Lily Absinthe's blog, she states that a semi-train is usually indicative of a day or afternoon special occasion dress. All I know for sure is that I adore the lovely vertical pleated train!
Princess Line dress • 1878-1880 (made) • Unknown designer and maker, likely from Great Britain • Virginia and Albert Museum
Blue and gold Jacquard-woven silk made with a fitted bodice and narrow skirt drawn back into drapes at the back, and rusched silk trim. It has elbow-length sleeves and a square neckline, which are both trimmed with machine-lace. This is a day or afternoon dress, likely worn at home. More views of this dress can be seen here.
Attire appropriate for a hat.
Of course, the ultra-slim silhouette of the princess dress was restrictive and necessitated increasingly tighter undergarments like corsets and girdles, further restricting movement. Poor working women who engaged in hours of manual labor could not afford either the latest fashions nor the restricted movement.

Posting screenshots from The Raggy Dolls every day until ITV puts it on ITVX: Day 76:
#ok stupid theory time!!#so Princess is supposed to be a princess doll right#but she looks nothing like the others#(even IF she was a princess doll that got ruined she'd still share similarities with the others like having remnants of a blue dress)#so i have two ideas as to why that is:#theory 1:#she was meant to be a special edition#but the machine messed her up as we are led to believe#OR theory 2:#(which is my personal favourite)#she was never actually meant to be a princess doll at all#what she really is is a test sample for multiple fabrics#that just so happens to share the same base as a princess doll#it makes sense#her dress (while patchwork) is too neatly sewn to have been tore up by the machine#not to mention her hair is completely different to the other princess dolls#and her sharing the same basic body as the princess doll would explain why she was on the production line alongside them#so in a way#she's a bit like sad sack#another thing to add to this theory#is that her speaking voice is different from the other princess dolls#(probably because Neil put in more effort because she's a main character)#idk i thought of this at like 3am#the raggy dolls#princess

I need to work on the neck a bit more, but I cut off the mask's neck piece, stuck another doll head into the mask to be the back of her head (and so I can connect her to the new body), and tried my best to do something with her hair.
I would say I'm more surprised they didn't make more Fiona dolls, considering how popular Shrek was in the 00's, but toy companies seem to think girls hate green and a plus sized doll was a hard sell in the era of "be as as skinny as possible" so.
And nowadays Shrek is considered a meme franchise so I doubt we'll get another official one anytime soon. A shame because this is a genuinely lovely sculpt and face up, and I adore it so much.
#meanwhile I gotta find a head for human fiona#since I have the dress I might as well#it's funny how human Fiona seems like she'd be pretty easy to get right but then MGA got lazy on that bit#then again the shrek doll line was a mess#the other princesses don't look a thing like they do in the movie#and they didn't make doris how dare they#I should make doris actually why the fuck not

Anyway, Asmo dressing Diavolo up in pretty dresses and telling him how pretty he is ^_^
#asmodia is a t4t ship to me do you see my vision????#no because I truly feel like diavolo is interested at the very least in being far more gnc#especially since literally only lucifer was mad at the princess diavolo/prince lucifer stickers#and mephisto helped create them + barbatos has used the princess diavolo sticker at least once#hc they're just supporting diavolo because neither would ever do something that “insulted” him or made him uncomfortable ^_^#like come on..........#that line about how he'd be honored to play a leading lady........... the way he cosplayed ruri-chan without batting an eyelash#plus asmo designed princess diavolo's dress in the sticker !!#my diavolo gender hc changes with the weather tbh#but still i need diavolo's fandom to be less cis and i need people to see the Huge potential asmodia has even outside this!!!#obey me diavolo#obey me asmodeus#asmodia#diaasmo#obey me#obey me shall we date

It is my firm belief that the Kristoph wears shirts that are too big him to hide his snatched waist.
I totally believe like John Melaney, he’s got them feminine hips, so wears clothes that don’t fit so he can be “taken seriously”
He makes himself look ugly cause he’s too afraid and insecure to be the pretty little bitch he is
kristoph gavin is the first man to experience misogyny in the workplace so true
#one may liken the way i speak abt krisgav to misogyny tbh. objectifying the fuck out of those lines#give up lawyering princess and be my evil gossipy housewife#ofc i joke but it is a v female-coded experience!#many women dress down in the workplace to avoid being looked at by male colleagues bc of this very reason#oreocookiezzz#ask#queue were in love

I think this is the first time in years that I’ve decided on a basic Halloween costume. Like usually I am so original but I couldn’t find anything for the very few creative ideas I had 😔
#like I’m usually so creative and sometimes obscure that nobody knows who I am#like for example I wanted to do Barbie the island princess this year soooo bad but I couldn’t find a dress in the right color that’d work 😔#also wanted to do starlight but that’s extremely hard to make on your own and all the premade costumes suckkkkk#I wanted to avoid being basic so bad that I thought about redoing an old costume I did two years ago#even the time I was Bucky I’d say was pretty original bc nobody knew who that was except these two girls I met in line for the club#and a few nerdy guys I met in the gas station#which now that I’m thinking ab it it’d be fun to just be Bucky again as a second costume#bc I still have most the stuff for one but two id look way better than when I did it a few years ago bc I’ve lost 70lbs since then#so I’d look way sexier but also I already have a bunch of pics in that and I don’t wanna post the same costume twice

not to start shit but. tell me you didn't understand princess jellyfish without telling me you didn't understand princess jellyfish
#idk idk something about the lines we draw to divide women being ultimately useless as they degrade both sides#something something bridging gaps between people with different interests#something something literal actual sisterhood and solidarity between women#i'm never one to defend tiktok i'm not even on there and it surprises me that princess jellyfish is being brought up#but like. what is this supposed to mean. to 'tiktokify' something#girlboss narrative what hello? what? you're throwing words at me and i don't know what they mean#but it's hilarious that this post comes off as something the sisterhood would have posted before all their character development#because this is a story about empowerment not through appearance- but that inner change is what beauty is made of#the development tsumiki and the other members of the sisterhood get is not that now they dress well#but that their often self-imposed isolation is not an antidote to os being ostracized in high school and having social anxiety#and that they've dehumanized other women in the process of defending themselves#and it's not that they have to change who they are of their interests but that they full accept themselves and can therefore#be comfort with who they are#and better navigate the world. and form friendships . and human connection and FUCK#like what are you talking about#sorry i know no one here follows me for princess jellyfish takes but that's what we're gonna get today#i think when you have a fandom / readership as small as pj (in the west at least) every bad take hits that much harder lmao#anyway. kuranosuke princess rights. we are all princesses. etc etc#princess jellyfish#kuragehime#screeds#screeds fR FR#txt#i didn't want to tag this person or show their name bc it ain't personal i just want to address takes like these .#“girl's girls are toxic” “not like other girls are toxic” what if we were all princesses idk. what if we loved each other

Just realised the personalities I assigned the Neo Swords match them up very well with the Mario Princesses their energy panels match (Leaves and Peach, Boulder and Daisy, Crown and Rosalina). Also I tend to order them the same way (given I consider Leaves to be the leader of the Neo Swords and Peach is much more important than the other two put together I put the pink ones in the middle rather than at one end)
Edit: as an extra bonus, Rosalina and Crown are considerably taller than the rest of their trios. I’m not sure about how Peach and Daisy scale but I’m 99.9% certain Daisy is shorter. While officially Leaves is the same height as Boulder Terrakion is shorter than Virizion and I think we are supposed to see Boulder as being slightly shorter than Leaves (just the difference is so small they’re both listed as 1.5m)
#Pokémon x Mario#iron leaves#iron boulder#iron crown#neo swords#princess peach#princess daisy#princess rosalina#pokémon#super mario bros#I dare someone to draw the Neo Swords in the Mario Princesses’ dresses preferably Smash vers (that someone’s me isn’t it?)#I think Leaves and Peach aren’t as similar to each other as the other pairs are - Leaves has more energy and is a much better fighter#but Boulder and Daisy are the rough ones most likely to listen to heavy metal (I mean I hope all the Neo Swords do)#and Crown and Rosalina are the stoic ones who try their best (and often fail at least in Crown’s case) to keep the others in line#but I think both trios have a “brain beauty brawn” thing going on#Crown and Rosalina are brains Leaves and Peach are beauty and Boulder and Daisy are brawn#I can also kinda see the Mario princesses as a “Strawberry Chocolate Vanilla” trio and I already assigned the Neo Swords those flavours#Leaves and Peach Strawberry Boulder and Daisy Chocolate Crown and Rosalina Vanilla#i have recently thought it would be cool to draw the Neo Swords drinking those milkshake flavours

WIP kind of sort of but fairy!symbolism Helene is a neat idea to me so i attempted to draw that idea bit (but messy!!)
#the mighty extra#the mighty extra: one girl changes the world#not sure if anyone is reading these posts of mine but man do i love going in circles about how clever this manga is#i think a lot more than i should about Lyla calling herself a “fairy” and how goshdarn clever that is#because she's literally a changeling fairy: she was swapped in place of another child to replace them#and considering Lyla and Helene are noted to be somehow similar in some unexplained way#i wouldn't be surprised if we find out Helene is somehow resemblant of Lyla in that she too sports the changeling motif#also i gave Helene more of a modern day look here and it feels wildly out of place for her character lol#she dresses really conservatively as a character tho tbf to her apparently her maids pick out all her outfits#which is the funniest random line about her the manga gives imo#wouldn't expect the princess who has the potential to lead a whole-ass empire to war to rely on others to choose her outfits#i need to find the community for this manga wherever it may exist i am so desperate to talk about this manga my god#and i can't leave comments on the official webtoon for reasons unknown to me so ahhhHHHH i wanna scream but there's no one to scream to#ahahahahah OTL

who wants to come frolic with me in this beautiful field (tgirl!evan headcanons)
#N posts stuff#i think of the ‘i was a pretty princess’ line often and also the stilted attempt at self-expression via Scrunchie as well#which is to say that i think evan spent so long in Survival Mode that she never got a chance to consider what gender was or meant to her#and then as Soon as she gets a breath of like ‘oh i can be alive as a person in a supportive environment’ it’s instant Go Time#i think it takes her a Billion years to work up the confidence to wear a dress and i don’t know if she’d ever experiment with makeup#on her own (i think she Would let Sam/K put makeup On her when they want to tho) and so i think her Hair remains like#Her Thing that she is comfortable experimenting with in terms of like. outward Physical expression#and also HRT i could see her doing that as well lol#i also think about how like. Breathlessly evan tends to compliment Sam/Dream in ways that do feel and sound explicitly Envious#more than anything else. at least to me. like evan thinks jammer is cool but he thinks sam is So Cool; she wants to be like her So Bad
