#cut WHAT in half dear subtitles#ghhhhghj#subtitling my beloathed#how do they come up with that#knife shares exactly 0 phonemes with orange how did they make that mistake#Id say its because they watch the show but cinsidering in another episode they swap the word for “stalk” with “stock”#(he was making risotto with broccoli and the sentence was “cut the stalk” and the subtitle was “cut the stock” which doesnt even make sense#I want to fight whoever made these#ghhh

my dad used generative AI to make a 2 seconds video of the characters his dead graphic artist made as promotional material and, when I told him to not do that, he said I need to "get with the times" because "everyone is using AI" and "what else could he have done instead?"
and I reminded him that generative AI steals her work and we loved and respect her and that as his kid who IS AN ARTIST who he has previously asked to draw stuff for on my semester break last year, he could have asked me. 2 seconds of art. could've given spotlight to a young artist and not sold his old artist's stuff to the AI and he KNOWS I hate genAI exactly over this sort of thing and I AM on break rn and literally last week he asked if he can give me projects

by the way. being educated/trained in linguistics does not automatically free you from having reactionary thoughts about the validity of different ways of languaging. it does give you the tools to recognize and counter those thoughts as being false. you still have to be an active participant in shaping your own linguistic worldview.
#every time someone tells me “but thats not correct language” I go “and that's not how language works!”#personal grammar is a thing. you can dislike certain ways people talk and consider them errors if they happen in YOUR speech#but dont you dare use “but grammar” in a conversation with me (a diehard descriptivism fan)#theres a wholeass local.. idk if theyre considered a government office but theyre the official ppl for prescriptivism#and Ive always been vocal about thinking their rulings are bullshit and ever since starting linguistics studies Ive doubled down on it#no such thing as correct ways to talk. I like enunciating my phonemes because there's a recent decline in some of them locally#and I like the fact my hebrew is considered “old” like that. but thats personal preference#I never ever correct people. dont care. the syntax is there I can understand what the sentence is#anything about subject-verb agreement can suck it#go ahead and use feminine form on masculine items. or the technical 3rd person future conjugation for 1st person#I dont care. communication is beautiful and it CAN be broken. but incorrect subject agreement isnt the breaking factor#(...usually. syntax can be fucked over it but like... not in the ways prescriptivists think it could)#((like... Im thinking of like. government? thats the sort of thing that can be based on subject-verb agreement and affect grammar))#(but like. I dont even care if someone does that#I just need clarification bc that being nongrammatical means the meaning is difficult to parse personally)#linguistics#linguistics posting

apparently I decided to teach myself both knitting and asl through youtube over the semester break
#I will master all languages and all fiber arts#(that is a futile task Im being hyperbolic here. I DO want to learn the most fiber arts and languages I can though)#admittedly crochet is mostly making it up as you go and tbh macrame and cross stitch arent really my thing#(cross stitch requires Actual Planing and macrame is something my mom thinks she knows how to do and says Needs to happen outside)#((and I dont do outside for crafts))#and sewing is. fine? I have yet to figure out how to operate a machine but I do like hand stitching stuff#its less calming than crochet but it does require more focus which makes it meditative in its own right#and now I'm gonna swipe my grandmas old needles and learn knitting! it feels like it can do the same Whimsy as crochet#(in that “making up the pattern as you go” vibe)#and Im really hoping it actually has that vibe when you Do It but thats a tomorrow mes problem#no offense to felting but that Scares me and the only other genre of fiber art I can think of is various Making Textiles art which#yeah Id like to learn loom weaving and yarn making. but I dont have the time or commitment ability yet

for some reason currently in the mood to make my extended worms on a string universe and unfortunately there's no plot yet
#I have.. maybe 5 characters so far?#there's Achilles. Stwormy. The Gurgling Shadows. Mrs. Rainbow Worm... and I think the last one was named Nodle?#(and also of course The Allknowing Skyworm)#anyways the idea is that I'm gonna knit all of them as physical scarf-things and then make a lot of other worm scarves)#(and get a booth at con where I sell both Wormiverse merch and actual worms and do like... gratuitous punning game. soo much wordplay)#but like... do I even make the comic? there's no story or anything. theres a bunch of characters and they get into Shenanigans#and also several of them are gods and its only mentioned in funny ways#(eg The Gurgling Shadows is a sentient mass of shadows. as the name might suggest. and therefore an extraterrestrial being)#(the allknowing skyworm is gonna be christian-biblically-accurate angel aesthetic. many eyes many wings etc etc)#((they're both of the longest worms. each one is like 7 yarns thick and a whole yarn long))#anyways the point is that I need to decide if I'm doing something with the wormiverse or not#send help
