Last headcanon post of the day I swear: the emotions creating the Ruinous Quartet were so strong they duplicated the treasures and created shiny versions of the quartet. The shinies weren’t successfully locked up they just went exploring or something. Anyway I should probably check with Raifort to see if she oh wait she still hates me for preferring Violet never mind

Edit: oh yeah also the shinies from the accompanying Mass Outbreak events are their friends

Time for your irregularly scheduled me talking about the Proto Beasts’ and Neo Swords’ stats post. I think there are certain things we need to appreciate here:

The only one whose highest stat is an offence-based stat whose modern-day counterpart also has an offence-based stat as (one of) its highest stat(s) is Bolt with Raikou. Every single other pair either has the Paradox counterpart have an offensive stat as their highest stat (Wake, Leaves and Crown) or the modern-day counterpart having the offensive stat as one of their highest stats (Entei and Terrakion)

Related to that, while Fire and Boulder still fit the masculine-presenting one that uses physical attacks archetype, the two of them stray slightly from the archetype by not having Attack be their best stat. Boulder is also the only one whose offensive stats don’t become more specialised (its still pushed as a physical fighter but the difference between its Attack and Special Attack stats is slightly smaller than the difference between Terrakion’s Attack and Special Attack stats). Fire and Boulder also have the lowest specialised offensive stats of their trios

Suicune’s highest stats are its defensive stats but Wake’s defensive stats are both in the lower half of its stats (still not bad at all of course)

Similarly both Virizion and Cobalion are based around one defensive stat but neither of their Paradox counterparts have it as their highest stat although Leaves has it as its second-best stat and Crown has it as its third-best stat, now with Special Defense overtaking it

The variation of the Swords’ of Justice Special Defense stats is swapped to the Neo Swords’ Speed stats and they all share a Special Defense stat of 108

The speed order of the Proto Beasts is the reverse of their modern-day counterparts. As a result, while Suicune is the only Legendary Beast to not have a Speed stat over 100, Wake is the only Proto Beast to have a Speed stat over 100

Bolt is the only one to not lose HP. It also has the most drastic difference in HP from its modern-day counterpart (Wake and the Neo Swords are only 1 point lower, Fire is 10 points lower and Bolt is 35 points higher)

And of course I have to mention the fact that the Proto Beasts all specialise in Defense over Special Defense while the Neo Swords all specialise in Special Defense over Defense

Edit (as if I haven’t already made enough edits to this post): Fire actually has the exact same Attack stat as Entei

I wanted to wait until Luna and Passionfruit got the Partner Mark and Apple and Char (Ceruledge) got the Gourmand Mark to get the ribbons for my DLC-exclusive Paradoxes but the Chien-Pao raid in Scarlet spawned so close to the NPC that gives you the Effort ribbon I decided to do it today anyway

(Now please Apple and Passionfruit get the marks you still need. See if you can win the races against Char and Luna. Wow it’s really always Fire and Crown huh) I still haven’t got the four of them the Paldea Champion ribbon mainly because I couldn’t be bothered to do the Academy Ace tournament today but also I had an idea. I’ve already kinda decided that once I’ve claimed the Chi-Yu distribution in both versions I will temporarily swap my base game aces out for the shiny Ruinous Quartet while still keeping Apple and Lemon/Orange and Passionfruit in my party so I can just wait until then to get the quartet (uhh, the DLC-exclusive Paradoxes. They’re obviously in trios but they also form a quartet to me. This is what happens when you make two trios intentionally counterparts with each other from the start) the Paldea Champion ribbon and I can get it on my shiny Ruinous Quartet while I’m at it because it’s not like my non-shiny Ruinous Quartet(s) have it too or anything *glances at Urbosa the Paldea Champion, Revali the Paldea Champion, Daruk the Paldea Champion, Mipha the Paldea Champion, Stingray the Paldea Champion, Fox the Paldea Champion, Goose the Paldea Champion and Falcon the Paldea Champion*

Rose and Lavender have found the random sparkly cryptid they’ve been battling in raids that judging by their recent history lessons with Raifort have no reason to exist unless there was a second set of identical treasures (no seriously I checked their home models it seems the treasure parts don’t actually change colour in their shiny forms) that also got possessed… in their lockers (yeah that’s my Mystery Gift explanation headcanon for SV. It also makes the Flutter Mane, Iron Hands and Lavender’s Mew and Darkrai funnier imo)

Since it’s Latias release day I headcanon that UNITE’s Latios and UNITE’s Latias are a romantic couple. Bonus headcanon (I will probably not be doing bonus headcanons on any other headcanon post I make today): they help out with UNITE’s romance problems including in gay relationships (they’re psychic, they’ll be able to work something out). Blissey insists on the two of them giving Meowscarada and Ceruledge some couples therapy so she no longer has to patch Meowscarada up when Ceruledge takes his anger out on her

atp i am a fan of every pokemon generation to some degree and i have a minimum of 200 hours in every mainline pokemon game set, sometimes a lot more depending on the game. but it wasn’t always like this

i think like a lot of adult pokemon autists, the change in pokemon’s game design, art direction, etc, has at one point in the past decade been uncomfortable, jarring, or distressing. i am terrible with change and pokemon is everything to me and when sword and shield came out i had to do some genuine soul searching about what pokemon means to me and how i want to engage with it as it gets further and further away from what i loved about it as a child. i cried when i processed that pokemon would never be the same as it was when i was a kid ever again. both because of the game design changes and also, i am an adult! i have an adult brain! i cannot play pokemon with the childhood wonderment that i had… as a child.

but you know what? after i was eventually able to accept this and process it i was able to fall in love with pokemon all over again. i’ve let go of (most of) my expectations and i’m just excited to see what they do next. which is a good thing in particular right now since game freak is clearly trying to experiment more with the legends games and whatnot. i can simultaneously play the older games and the newer ones, both for their own merits, and consider them individually

i am kind of an outlier because pokemon is so core to who i am that i am probably a lot more emotional about this than other people and this was a lot harder of a process for me than other people. but i do think part of why the pokemon fanbase is such a toxic wasteland in some spaces is it’s because it’s full of adults who have outgrown pokemon but can’t let go of what it was for them as a kid, and they’re eternally taking out that frustration on the new games. not that modern pokemon can’t be criticized, but that’s not what i’m saying. i’m referring to the vitriol and the obsession, buying every new pokemon game and then hating it every time, or not buying new games but still spending a ton of time online instigating fights about it on purpose… people refuse to fall in love with it again with their adult brains for what it is now, OR they refuse to simply move on and keep pokemon as a nostalgic part of their heart that they open from time to time but no longer actively engage with as a hobby. pokemon discourse would be so much less Awful if some people recognized that things have changed and you cannot be a child again.

also i just feel like some people forget that if you only like the old pokemon games… you can just play those. as much as you want. forever. like there is nothing stopping you from dunking 1000 hours into heartgold and soulsilver for the nintendo DS right now. these games are practically infinitely replayable and there’s so much postgame content in them that it’s almost dizzying. a lot of which many people haven’t touched because it was too difficult or hard to find when they were like, 7 years old. but there is loads in there, including for adult players, honestly especially for adult players, and i promise that if all of the modern pokemon games were thanos snapped out of existence you could still spend the rest of your life playing literally just gens 3 and 4 if you truly wanted. and then on top of that there’s an extremely active fangame and romhack scene for the older stuff which isn’t my area of expertise but like. you get my point. instead of being mad about modern pokemon just crack open a game you actually do like and try a new feature or challenge you’ve never done before. it really is that simple. there’s even still online communities for it!!!! you won’t be alone!!! AAA

I checked the sizes of two of my band shirts either this morning or last night I don’t remember and my Metallica Wherever I May Roam shirt is size S (presumably my Metallica logo, Metallica Ride The Lightning and Judas Priest Firepower shirts are all also size S because they fit me the same) and my Iron Maiden Fear Of The Dark shirt is size XXL. No wonder it’s massive. What you need to know is just because you found a shirt of one of your favourite bands in an HMV one time doesn’t mean you’re exempt from checking the size

Rose (second image) and Lavender (first image) have the same response to seeing a random Chikorita while trying to shiny hunt Cubchoo: take a photo of it. They share a brain cell (though given they’re both me that’s kinda to be expected I guess it’s just weird I decided to do it twice in one day)

Speaking of sharing brain cells, here’s Blueberry and Cherry both running around while I’m sending shiny Frigibax to my boxes and then being happy once the Frigibax are in my boxes and Quax and Spriggie both coming up to me at the start of a picnic
