It's kind of insane that Joss was so good. Like genuinely looking back at her in 2024 makes me so angry.

Because the company made a good goty and just got all the wrong lessons from it. Joss had a new mold, making her unique, she was a disabled character, she learnt not to look down on feminine hobbies and to not abandon her old friends after changing!

But all AG saw was the money the accessories related to two hobbies brought in so that's what they took from it.

And I know Joss wasn't the last good doll or that there were bad ones before her, but she was so good when you think about what kind of dolls we got afterwards

I think AG should really stop with all these collabs and maybe focus on the thing that made the brand unique in the first place? I'm so tired of the historicals being on the back burner. The historical dolls are the reason I'm even still interested in AG! And ffs give Claudie some more outfits and accessories. That girl deserves the world.

Listen I KNOW it’s a minor complaint I have in the grand scheme of things with the Twins looking more like 16 year old TikTok Y2K Style Influencers than 9 year olds in 1999, but with that it just makes me think more about the adultification of young girls. Especially with regards to social media and how there aren’t as many spaces online for kids to be kids these days (heck, even on the AG website they don’t have any games, just the virtual doll museum), and girls having to fit with the TikTok fashion trends and fast fashion at younger and younger ages. I know this was a concern with the painted lashes on the new Truly Mes, but especially with the Cher Horowitz comparisons with Isabel’s meet outfit, she’s dressed more like a high schooler than an elementary schooler.

We better be getting leaks of a tradmarked name for an Asian historical doll imminently. I'm not even playing, I'm deeply annoyed by all of this. If we really have to put up with two more white, blond, (barely!) historicals, then the next doll announcement out of AG's mouth has to be an Asian historical.

ok. hater warning. but uh. what is up with some of the new holiday items?? (disclaimer - these are simply my personal opinions based on my own taste. if you like these items it’s totally fine)

bro WHAT is the skirt on this dress doing. this outfit would actually have been incredibly cute as separates rather than a dress, especially with some cute pants instead of a skirt. tho tbf i have a strong cute sweater and cute pants bias. also there is no situation in my life in which i have ever worn a heavy, sweater-like dress without tights. there’s no way to add/remove layers, and if it’s cold enough to wear a sweater dress my knees r gonna be frosty! I will say - it looks cute on bitty baby at least. though I like it on no one else lol

idk what happened to this poor guy. but NONE of those reds match. which is ok to me with some colors tbh, but red… 😬 the mismatch also is making the vest material look very cheap in the pictures. I have no idea if it actually is, but it just does not look good.

also kinda upset to see a bow tie two years in a row. bow ties are cute don’t get me wrong - but this outfit might actually look better without it at all. also i need them to have this guy wear the scarf a more normal way - with it just draped over his shoulders it looks like he took off his robe at a college graduation but left a banner thing on.

also. and i truly am sorry to say this. this lineup is giving flesh. which is a very offputting vibe ok. it doesn’t help that the only pieces in the lineup I even kinda like are the darker pink dress (which gives me holiday/winter vibes not at all. more elle woods/business but girly), and the wide-leg pants (which I LOVE the cut of. but I loathe the color).

thankfully ending on a positive note. I still love the ugly sweaters. I don’t like them quite as much as last years, but they still slay. and I like the matching headband for the kid. that’s cute. only big note here is that I love the slightly different colors for the Christmas one. would love to see a non-blue Hanukkah sweater.

overall pretty disappointed. especially with how cute last years holiday stuff with (and considering that I actually quite like much of the other something navy collab, though not enough to buy any of it), I was expecting better. oh well. not like I was gonna buy any of it full price anyway lol.

the way i’m so pissed about the rereleases of retired dolls like you’re telling me i got a shitty costco box beforever version of molly when now i can go onto AG’s website and buy her.. in her original outfit?? with her original accessories??? without the shitty eyes???? what the fuck, american girl? i’m sorry but i’m just so jealous of anyone who buys her now. and then now they’re bringing back kit, amazing, and there are hints at kirsten (along with sam, addy, felicity, and josefina) being rereleased/uncubed? i don’t have kirsten, addy, kit, or josefina but i have sam and felicity and i desperately want their original meet outfits at LEAST. like i’m just very jealous and i will be even more jealous if they uncube sam and bring back felicity

i think the real reason Lucanis has a coffee addiction is so the animators had an excuse to show just how good they are at making characters hold cups now.

like look at that. its not floating 6 inches away from his palms. it goes up and down with his hands. he's even got one hand on the handle itself! we've come so far since the hilarious joining chalice animation in Origins and Solas's cup of misery tea that floats 4 seconds behind his arm movements

solas could've avoided this whole mess and probably had enough free time to take lavellan on a nice little date if he just took up archdemon hunting instead of all the rituals and the other dastardly deeds

lucanis won't romance rook if they go to minrathous but will romance neve because despite saying he's cool, he's not cool

everyone's nice and no one has slaves or anything because *checks forearm* the blight

all your companions get along with you and each other because also the blight

even though he's like, really manipulative and uses people all the time, solas accumulated but then gave up an entire army's worth of spies and agents because he decided he wasn't ready for a management position

red lyrium isn't really around because—and you are not gonna believe this—the blight

solas just lies. all the time, outright, to everyone. so I guess he was actually only super careful to not ever actively lie in Inquisition as like a fun little challenge to himself

tying the veil to his life force (you know, the guy who couldn't even take down an archdemon on his own and actually just got his ass beat so is not in great shape in the best ending) fully repaired the veil! \o/ don't ask how you wouldn't understand it it's not a big—

everyone near minrathous is cured of the blight! but @ everyone else you may be entitled to compensation 🥀

the only ritual solas has ever gotten or will ever get right is cleansing the idol into the ritual dagger. good thing too bc it was way more dangerous than this one. other than that, wrong about everything ever

The only way having the Y2K bug as in important plot point in the twins' story would be a good choice, is making Nicki2 have some sort of anxiety disorder/delusions that are fed into by everyone propping up the bug as such a big thing, and have the plot line be about Isabel and the rest of the family finding out how to help her, especially the night of New Years.

But as it stands? It's ridiculous.

I don't collect the GOTY line for a few reasons, but it's so exhausting to see yet another white doll with blonde hair and blue eyes for GOTY. Especially with the Nanea mold! and wow what a surprise she rescues animals, what a brand new idea! I'm so tired of AG and their nonsense. Give us an actually interesting GOTY doll for once. It's ridiculous that they keep getting away with this.

Man, it’s so f***ed up that AG is ALLEGEDLY releasing the new 90s historicals only like 6 months after the release of Claudie, the latest historical doll, on top of overshadowing Claudie’s release with the Truly Me revamp just a month after her release. On top of my existing cynicism towards AG ALLEGEDLY reusing character names for the 1990s dolls, and feeling that it’s too soon for 90s dolls since they JUST released an 80s doll not even 3 years ago.

The more I look the worse it gets

This doll is going to be $115. Take a good look at that outfit. There's literally no quality there, it's just tshirt material. What am I paying $100 for? I could buy this outfit for $10 off Amazon.

They couldn't even be bothered to give her the braids she's illustrated with. The longer I look at her outfit, the angrier I become. AG has absolutely reached rock bottom with quality. It's astonishing to me that AG thinks they can charge $115 dollars for such a lazy, cheap doll in this economy. I'm expected to spend $150 on a luxury doll brand, but you can't even be bothered to give her a nicer outfit than I could get at Walmart.
