I feel like we have a bit of a conundrum

So there are a few things that ultimately led to us splitting and forming Vis, but the biggest overall thing that caused the majority of stress and trauma involves a friend (exfriend? I dunno)

So literally the morning after one of the roughest nights I've had in a while, during which I became aware of Vis and realized we probably had a split, this friend unblocked me and messaged me apologizing for everything

I hounded into them for all the pain and trauma they caused me because of their selfish actions, they apologized repeatedly and swore they would change and basically begged for another chance at being friends, at the time I told them I needed space to think through everything and work on healing the trauma wounds they made as well as closing the ones they reopened

Well it's been a few weeks and I think I'm ready to talk to them about rekindling a friendship, there is just one small problem I didn't really think about, Vis hates their guts

I guess I should have seen that coming since they're the main reason for the split but now I'm not sure how to move forward

I want to try and be friends with them again, I want to believe they mean it when they say they changed, but Vis is very against it

To be fair, they have made similar claims in the past but never followed through, my bsf and bf are very against me rekindling a friendship with them for that exact reason, but that's different

Vis is now stuck in this brain with the rest of us, my bsf and bf don't have to ever have any interaction with this person, Vis will, he doesn't exactly have a choice

I don't want to make him uncomfortable or stressed by reintroducing this person into my life, because ultimately that is going to be forcing them into his life as well

But I also still deeply care for them, I miss them as a friend, even with everything they've done

I don't know what to do, I feel stuck...

Nonhuman expressions of affection are great. Purring. Exposing weak points as a show of trust. Head bonks. Preening and chewing. Nuzzling. Biting. Intertwining tails. Feeding each other. Little chuffs, chatters, beeps and squeaks. Fluffing up of feathers, fur or other things. Dancing to impress. Cleaning their fur, scales, feathers or skin. Sharing body heat. Ears pointing toward those you care about to show your full attention is on them. Slow blinking.

Just read The Strange Case of Harley and Harleen and my god I needed a little bit of positive plurality in my life this week.

The way Pam and Harl's relationship adapts to accept the Harley/Harleen split makes my heart swell.

The way Pam sees the difference between her girlfriends.

And assures her that she accepts and loves all sides of her.

And does what she can to accommodate Harleen's memory holes.

The core relationship of this book is just so sweet and positive in accepting things as they are without judgment or pushing. Just acceptance and love.

And after finding that in our own life, I know what a powerfully positive thing it can be.

But the Harley/Harleen relationship is well handled too. There's friction and denial at the start but the two develop and trust one another by the end and Harley takes a seat as my favorite kind of character, the morally ambiguous protector.

I love the way Harley's protectiveness of Harleen is depicted and how she tries so hard to keep her from interacting with the criminal underworld of Gotham.

It's just saccharine and kind.

Highly recommend the book to anyone who just wants soft and kind plurality vibes. Heaven knows the majority of the fiction involving split personalities are flooded with angst and darkness and though this book contains a few dark plot beats like DV it never feels painful or sorrow inducing.

I'm so happy I read it.

Seems to have a lot of names. And now I'm going to make a poll with a bunch of the names I've heard this dish called.

I am already 100% certain that this will be one of those "OP is about to find out their experience isn't universal" polls.

In fact, what I call this *isn't even listed in the Wikipedia article about this dish*.

I'm starting to believe that it what I call it is a regionalism so narrow in both place and time that the only other people who call it what I call it went to sleepaway camp in the Berkshire Mountains in the early 1980s.

Microdosing polyamory by dating a system

Here’s my metaphor for systemhood that I tell my singlet friends.

Imagine you’re playing a first person video game. You have the controller, you control your character. It’s a normal first person game. You are an alter, the character is the body. This is fronting.

Other people live with you. Sometimes, they come into the room and sit and watch while you play. They sometimes try to guide you, give you advice on what to do next. They don’t always agree, and they can argue with each other. Other times they scream at you that you’re doing everything wrong and you suck at this game. This is co-consciousness.

Imagine how distracting it would be for people around you to tell you what to do, or to scream at each other or at you, even if they have good intentions. It wouldn’t be easy to focus on your game, would it?

Then sometimes, something happens in the game that prompts you to hand off the controller to someone else so they can play and you get a break. This is (some types of) switching. This can be good.

Other times, someone rips the controller out of your hand or fights you for it. This is (other types of) switching. And sometimes, six other players hook up their controllers, but there’s only one character to play as. So all of you have your controllers, but you’re all trying to play the same character. This is cofronting.

Imagine how difficult that would be. Imagine how hard it would be to try and play a game while someone is trying to take the controller from you, or while six other people are trying to play too.

There are also times that nobody is playing, or you can’t decide who should play. What’s happening to the character in the game? What are they doing if no one is playing? This is dissociation. The character is doing nothing. They’re stuck.

This is the best metaphor I have come up with for being a system. It’s something a lot of people get because they’ve played games before.
