shoutout to systems that experience regression! it can already be difficult to navigate regression without getting added complication of plurality- dealing with things like differentiating between littles and regressed headmates, regressing as a collective, and navigating relationships within the agere community (like those with caregivers, playmates, etc.) while being a system. you deserve a safe space to explore your regression AND be plural- we believe in you!

Lotus trauma and coping mechanism headcanons

Sentients can change their body temperature at will. Before Apostasy Prologue, Lotus defaulted to setting her temperature to the warmth of a regular Human. After New War, with the memories of being used as what's essentially a living, burning power cell for Praghasa, Lotus keeps her body temperature very, very low.

When Lotus experiences a flashback, her temperature drops to below freezing, depending on the severity of the memory. Natah enters a hypervigilant state and fronts for Lotus instantly, while Margulis hangs back to comfort her.

Natah calls her flashbacks "the long shivers" because they're exactly that to Lotus. Her body locks up and she shakes uncontrollably until the flashback is over

Dissociation is referred to by Natah as "drifting", Lotus as "dreaming", and Margulis simply by its namesake

Lotus has age regression tendencies where her Small self registers Natah as her older sister and Margulis as her mother. Her age regression comes from the need to feel safe around her family, as well as the need for guidance from people she looks up to. The system eventually splits to form a little

(i have more about age regressor Lotus/Little!Lotus but I'm testing the waters here first. Consider the times Lotus-turned-Natah called out for her mom, and asked "Mother, what should I do?" in one of the New War Teasers.)

Lotus dissociates very very frequently. Even if she was the one chosen to lead the other two voices, Natah and Margulis are almost always co-conscious with her. The Tenno may see her giving mission directives as per usual, but in the Lotus system's mind, Lotus is huddled up against Natah or Margulis while they are the ones leading the Tenno.

Lotus now has a habit of subconsciously holding her forearm. She grips her arm with her fingers as a way to ground herself, gently brushing over the waves and grooves of her outfit. She still gets distracted by her new Lotus Radiant look, and it's not rare to see her staring at her hands, flexing her fingers mechanically, watching the light glint from her nails.

Natah and Margulis are very perceptive of Lotus, and they've learnt to be familiar with how Lotus behaves when she's in need of comfort or grounding. They started with gentle prompts like tapping her shoulder or a quiet call of her name. Then, as they grow closer, Margulis can easily slide up to Lotus and wrap her in a sidehug where Lotus will just melt into her embrace. Natah can poke into Lotus' mind with the humming of Sentient song, where Lotus will try to imitate and sing with her

Natah and Margulis subvert their Body and Mind dichotomy in the ways they comfort Lotus. Margulis guides Lotus to ground herself with her senses, while Natah uses the Sentient telepathy to communicate with Lotus
