five oc facts
@sparkiekong tagged me a VERY veryyyyy long time ago and i'm just now getting to this tag months later (i'm so sorry 😭)
i'll tag: @thebramblewood @mangosimoothie @queeniecook @stargazer-sims @dandylion240 @jonquilyst 🤍
i just did a similar prompt for áine, who is this sim's niece, so how about facts for cathal? he's also a newbie to my sims universe, and i adore him and his personality tbh, but canon reasons make it hard for him to be included too much outside of random simblr posts like this
he is WILDLY younger than all his other siblings (like by 20 years) and was a total surprise baby. really, he's kind of a medical miracle because he was born after his mother went into menopause and was in her 40s, and no one knew he even existed until he randomly sprang into the world one august morning lmfao 💀
i think i mentioned it in one post but he's been a vegetarian for most of his life! actually, he declared himself a vegan when he was, like, six years old; he figured out what eggs and meat really were and then refused to eat animal products for decades. much to his dismay, he did have to introduce eggs and milk and whatnot back into his diet when he ran into a few nutritional deficiencies from veganism, but he's made his peace with being a vegetarian instead 🥦
he 100% does not remember his father outside of what he looked like. his dad (and aoife's younger brother) died very abruptly and super young of a heart attack when cathal was maybe three or so, and it's something that really nags at him. he's well aware there's nothing he can do about it, but he feels some strange mix of bad emotions that he never experienced a father-son bond, and that makes him 100x as serious about being a good father who'll be around a LONG time and just generally treating anyone younger than him well. he doesn't want anyone else feeling that type of loss 🥲
he actually writes an agricultural column in the local online newspaper and contributes to the county farmer's almanac lol. his big shtick is sustainability in agriculture and how new green technologies should be combined with traditional cultural approaches to the land so the earth doesn't die in, like, 10 years from excessive carbon emissions 🍃💚
he met his wife yvonne in a ballroom dance class! he was just bored one day in college and went to the class to do something new, and he immediately developed the biggest crush on the instructor. he just kept going back every week until he was brave enough to ask her out, and when he did, they hit it off. oh, and this is totally their thing - he has quite literally taken her dancing every weekend since they got together 😭😭😭
#SORRY THIS WAS SO MUCH#i ended up giving way more info for him than aine but cathal actually had a bunch of speaking parts in the story so i had more inspo#btw ngl i didn't even realize there was such an age gap between even him and eimear until like last week#at which point i had to come up with a way to explain it and i'm totally ripping some inspo from an episode of chicago med#where this exact thing happened: a lady had a kid after menopause lmao which is somehow technically possible#yes i did go on a rabbit hole reading real medical cases of this#also *keeps talking* yes he is supposed to be a sort of reflection/foil/something of grant#obviously not the same person and difference experiences but there is supposed to be a concurrent theme here of growth and goodness#and the fact that they were surprise youngest kids but one was treated well despite some life problems and one was not#tag games#hlcn: cathal#hlcn: oc info#hlcn: story extras

forget 'uterus havers,' i just saw 'my penis holding coworkers' in the wild and i'm dying
#like the context was extremely full of people trying to be trans-inclusive but overlooking very basic shit#like 'bottom surgery exists and people do in fact get it ever‚ ergo birth genitals ≠ forever genitals necessarily'#also 'the category of people who menstruate once a month ≠ everyone who has a uterus'#or even 'everyone pre-menopause' thanks to a little thing called hormonal birth control and also the fact that cycle lengths vary#anyway getting mad abt oligomenorrheal erasure is probably not actually the hill i want 2 die on#really i just want us all 2 contemplate whether the image is 'cupping their penises for comfort like some ppl apparently cup their breasts'#or whether it's more of a 'work circlejerk' situation#many beautiful options available 2 us here imo

just went thru all of the notes on that post and like. YEAH. it’s a fucking wonder. like i should get to scream. i should get to lie down. i should get to have as many treats as i want for free.
#purrs#menstruation tw#literally so tmi but the pain + digestive issues + constant paranoia abt leaking + pain + exhaustion because of blood loss + exhaustion beca#because of sleep deprivation because of pain + pain + discomfort + the mortifying ordeal of leaving the room with your purse or taking out a#heating pad and everyone knows why + being in situations where you CANT use a heating pad because you have to walk somewhere or meet in a di#different place + pain + the fact that i can’t just reschedule shit when im dealing with it and can’t schedule around it and there aren’t#social structures in place to make it easy to do that + the fact that you aren’t supposed to talk about it even though it is all consuming +#pain and pain and pain. and it happens EVERY MONTH and if it doesn’t happen every month then either you’re suppressing it and risking#consequences or you’re pr*gn*nt and definitely unequivocally experiencing consequences or you’re menopausal which idk what the fuck that#even does but it’s not good or you’re getting it MORE frequently because you have a condition of some kind. like. the absolute suffering and#hellfire. i don’t want to play into the stereotype of menstruating ppl being bitchy and mean and hysterical but like.. not to say it but i#GET ITCOMOLETELY. why ppl thought it was hysteria and a curse and whatever. because it is 💖 no one should ever have to experience this 💖#delete later#ask to tag#brought to you by i haven’t even finished my dinner and i had to go lie down bc im in too much pain lol 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍#* digestive issues that need to be dealt with like… posthaste except (SO TMI SORRY) i have anxiety abt um. doing that in restrooms other ppl#can go into at the same time as me so ihave to scurry down MULTIPLE flights of stairs praying that the single user bathrooms are open so i#can shit in peace 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I stg if anyone trots out the grandmother hypothesis you will end up in anthropology rant hell
Ok but, if you'd like to rant about it (or have a good rant you've already posted) I'd be interested in hearing it. Like, I was under the impression that the grandmother hypothesis was relatively well accepted, which, I guess it isn't?
Shout out to the ten primate species, four bat species, elephant shrews, and the Cairo spiny mouse. Nobody else gets it
#anthropology#seriously I didn't realise that was contentious#and I'm always down to hear someone go on an academic rant#trying to think what other reasons there could be for it now#all I've got so far is that it might be just one of those things that happens#that was less selected *for* as it was ''not deleterious enough'' to select against#e.g. the fact that chimps don't ordinarily have menopause but can have it if they live long enough#meaning it might be an incidental property of human extended lifespan and the increased risk of maternal and foetal death with age#means that there was no strong selection pressure to continue ovulating for longer as it may have had a negative fitness cost#vs. the increased fitness cost of being able to raise your last offspring to independence#rather than dying from pregnancy complications aged 60 and leaving behind several immature children#considering the sheer amount of time it takes for humans to reach maturity and the level of community resources it uses#stopping giving birth a couple of decades before you die focuses available resources on offspring most likely to survive y'know?#I mean humans do tend to be pretty communal in raising our young ofc#but I suspect survival outcomes in early humans were better when children had living parents

Legit cannot tell if the accutane is making me drowsy and fatigued, if its simply my anemia from being on my cycle, or the aforementioned cycle itself, or the also plausible idea that I am simply just heatsick because summer is starting and its getting warm here.
Or some combination
#ughh#gonna be a long summer#I get heatsick in 70° F and above#despite having livedin central cali (or surturs armpit as I cal it) my whole life#its regularly 115° F here#like#gods I feel like I am dying most of the year.#and the anemia and horrible heavy/painful/irregular menses I deal with don't help anything#at least now I have some diagnoses but it doesn't changedthe fact that nothing has really been done about them#I am so tired of needing iron and blood transfusions to function like a person#which requires me to be in the ER for 8hrs minimum#I was supposed to get surgery to remove the tumors#but they decided that since I haven't *had kids yet* it was too dangerous.#and just put m on the fake menopause shot that can cause bone damage and osteoporosis instead#because that is so much safer than risking the fertility I likely don't even have bc of oyher diag#sometimes I hate OB-GYNs#I have Adenomyoisis and so many fibroids there wouldn't be room for a fetus to start with#have been on birthcontrol since I was 10 for this bleeding problem#and have had hemoglobin levels so low I could have died#but oh#w can't remove the tumors because yo may want kids later#like yeah#I planned on surrogacy or adoption anyway#you think I wanna make use of an organ that has nearly killed me on many occasions already?#NO#take the damned whole thing out

Victoria: Mae, it's freezing, does the thermostat really need to be on such a low temperature?
Mae (lying on the wooden floor, the back of her hand on her forehead like a 1930s Hollywood actress): I feel like I'm in a furnace.
Victoria: You can't lay on the couch? I'm worried I'm going to step on you.
Mae: You wouldn't be the first. It's cooler down here. This happens every now and then, since before I met the three of you. It'll be gone in a couple of minutes, it's a withdrawal symptom or something.
Victoria: You haven't smoked reefer in years.
Mae: ... A long-term withdrawal symptom?
Victoria (realising): You're menopausal, Mae.
Victor: Pre-menopausal, she's still young.
Mae: Thank you, Victor.
Lily (to Victor, joking): Suck up.
Victoria (to Mae): What you're experiencing are hot flashes.
Mae: Call them what you want, they've got nothing to do with my age.
Victoria: I give up. Lily, did you want to try? (gestures to Mae)
Lily: The only thing I'm certain I understood was Mae's in denial again.
Mae: What's with the emphasis on again? Name one time I was in denial.
Lily: Jack.
Victoria: Your hallucinations.
Victor: Your mental and physical wellbeing.
Lily: The increased discrimination of minority groups due to the anti-drug campaign you started.
Victoria: Reefer in general.
Victor: A lot of things, actually.
Mae (slightly annoyed): Alright, you've made your point.
Victoria: Victor, do you want to try to get through to her?
Victor: I... would... rather not. Not because it makes me uncomfortable or anything but... it's a-a woman's thing, I doubt I would be much help.
Victoria (to Mae): Well, then I'm really sorry to do this, but it's for you own good. *switches the thermostat off*
Mae (whiny): No, I need that! It's a hundred degrees in here!
Victor (softly): It's sixty.
Mae: What was that?
Victor: I-it's sixty degrees. In here. That's why most of us are in sweaters instead of sweating.
Mae: Well, it feels like a hundred degrees!!
Victor (smiling sympathetically): *giving her an awkward pat on the shoulder* Sorry. *follows Victoria to the dining room*
Mae (hurt, reaching out to him): Victor...
Mae (once Victor and Victoria are gone, hissing): Lily! *gestures for her to come closer*
Lily: Look, Mae, I know it's not what you want to hear but my parents are probably right. I'm sorry that you're having hot flashes.
Mae: They're not hot flashes and I'm not pre-menopausal. I'm fit as a fiddle. *tries to sit up, sweats more and lays back down*
Lily (standing up to leave): Have fun living in denial in the living room, Mae.
Mae: Lily, wait.
Lily: *turns around thinking Mae's going to admit it*
Mae: ... If you're leaving me here, can you at least get me something from the icebox to cool my forehead? Please?
Victoria (from the dining room): No!
#Lily's nineteen in this#Victoria reads a bit blunt; i imagine she's sympathetic just very matter-of-fact#also my line is barely alliteration; assonance or consonance#but I can't not read “You're menopausal; Mae.” and think of “Violet! You're turning violet; Violet!”#i think this is the longest incorrect quote i've ever written#it's the longest original incorrect quote i've ever written#i was inspired by reading a description of an episode of the regime (which i still haven't watched) and was like oh my god mae#tbh my first thought was oh my god katherine#but being in denial and having a fear of aging are common themes for ana gasteyer characters#which is funny in and of itself; as irl ana's super positive and talks like she's my age#and could absolutely still pass for 38#i will die on this fucking hill#it's a very specific hill but still#🎶unintentional rhyming🎶#last night of ballyhoo (crack)#cherry blossom on your sycamore tree (dyn: lily)#trust us to tell them the truth (verse three musings)#i write about them so much; i should get a tag for LIVV and Mae#“do you mean Liv and Maddie?” “I do not.”

So here's a lukewarm take for you all:
I love the "Doesn't understand implied context and has no critical media literacy because you didn't pay attention in English class" joke as much as the next guy, but uh.... it's not entirely correct
Because I DID pay attention in my English class, and the one thing they did NOT tell us to do... was form our own opinions on the text.
And absolutely it could have just been my teachers! It is in fact highly likely that my teachers specifically were just particularly shit at their jobs, but the main thing I was regularly instructed to do was just. Memorize whatever the teacher told us and move on. In fact, we were encouraged to focus on the absolute bare bones of any given story and spend as little time or mental energy in any given text. We were taught novels the same way we were taught history and science; to memorize the facts and move on.
We were not encouraged to engage with the text. When I offered a different interpretation of a passage I was told it was wrong and to 'not think about it so hard.' My Least Favorite Teacher- who I am biased against for unrelated reasons but nevertheless- once docked me points because I suggested a passage could be interpreted as referencing pregnancy. This was, of course, wrong; because she obviously was referencing menopause. (???)
We had so many standardized tests crammed down our throats that we were pretty much forced to just memorize the basic plot setting and characters- and do absolutely nothing else.
This is not to say tiktok is not ruining our brains- it's not even to say that every half assed massive Corp movie made of crappy ai writing isn't ruining our media consumption- because they both probably are. But when you see kids not understanding things like subtext and unreliable narrators, please don't laugh at them. Please do not assume it is a failure on their part. They can not help what they are not taught.
#genuinly i am currently taking an intro to lit college course#and the fact that some of these kids had never heard the term 'unreliable narrator' before#was astounding#the prof had to teach us how to critically engage with the text!#so many of the first classes she'd open the floor for discussion and kids would just... sit there. waiting for her to tell them what to sa#how to disguss theories! and to come up with our own interpretations!#for the first few classes shed open the floor for discussion and the kids would just... sit there#waiting for her to tell them what to say#theyd never been told an antagonist could be a hero. or that a narrator could say one thing but mean something else#it was.... bad#and for anyone curious: i do not remember the /exact/ passage i referenced#but it was between a southern wife and husband#where the wife said like “You're so fat you look like the change of life”#to which I#14 years old#figured 'oh! pregnancy belly!'#and was told#by very a gry 50yo man#no. she means menopause. because he cant see his dick anymore.#whatever the hell THAT is supposed to mean#anyhoo.#this is not to say kids DON'T pay attention in school#but uh. not all ignorances are caused by a failure on the part of the ignorant#once again. we cannot help what we are not taught#fi talks

Why did I get involved in a conversation? I suck at conversations. Multiple people aren't allowed to have valid opinions at the same time anymore. There are so many media out there that have problematic creators, but it was so long ago "it doesn't matter"
An example: Picaso, reportedly, was a misogynistic asshole who plagiarized art. But we aren't insisting all the art of his goes away very loudly.
Both my sister and I having our own hogwarts houses and being able to relate wizard wise to each other was one of the only things that kept us connected in highschool even if I had to cling to the writing of fan authors to keep myself interested as i felt there were too many plot holes and Fan Authors were more than happy to fill in the gaps. It's one of the few things we could say we had in common before my sister discovered Avatar the Last Airbender while on maternity bed rest. (beyond Lord of the rings, that I couldn't make through the first book for, either).
Now, because in this enlightened age, a grown woman doubling down on an older world view, (a view held by people, per my personal observations, often held by people who have experienced miscarriages or endometriosis) that isn't strictly wrong and can definately be handled more tactfully, decided to listen to the evangelical assholes and double dumb down. I can't have this thing that was a connection point with my sister during a shit time *because obvious I must be a TERF* for being fucking sentimental.
Fuck all that noise. I know enough weird and random things about biology that there is a significant chance that most trans people probably have their correct gender dna encoded in their brain cells, if not in other parts of their body as well, but still stuck with the wrong sex organ. This means there is enough hope that sooner rather than later, scientists will have the means to grow in a lab a person's correct set of organs. And since it would be *their* organs with *their* dna, there shouldn't be organ rejections, and they'll be able to experience everything entiled to their correct gender. Like a baby in every port, or PMS rage.
Now excuse me, I'm going to finish finding a black hole to throw myself in before someone tries to drag me off to force me to wear red because i live in texas, and my family, who is very kindly helping me pay for medical things, is insisting that I "don't have a mental disorder, you just have pms" so I get to go to a full gyno for a hormone test tomorrow and get to be put on a list now
#shouting at the void#J.K. Rowling should have stuck to just being a menstrating individual#oh wait she likely has hit menopause and is no longer menstrating. that means she shouldnt have commented on that article#seriously was this just her being triggered by the fact that her baby bearing time has likely passed and she has left this hell for another#seriously most transwomen are better dressed than i am.

Slightly suggestive!!
“Brat’s down,” your husband murmurs quietly with a mischievous look in his eyes.
“Thank you for putting Shoko to sleep babe.” Katsuki nods firmly. You’re sitting on the couch minding your own business but you can see the blonde staring at you out of the corner of your eye.
“What? Is something wrong?” You ask wiping your face, thinking that there may be some chocolate cake crumbs left on your mouth.
“No it’s just… our other three brats are at sleepovers ‘n Shoko’s down for the night with Mina comin’ ina few minutes.” His lip turns upward at the corner; just acknowledging the fact that all four of your kids are occupied for the night.
“And..?” You ask with a knowing smirk.
“And, we have finally have some time for a date.” Katsuki’s not wrong. With his line of work he often doesn’t come home until late and when he does come home early you guys are busy with your four children.
It seems you two are always missing each other. The passion is still there of course, it just feels like you guys don’t have the time to just enjoy each other’s company, which you both knew that would be the case going into parenthood, but it’s still something you’re learning to get used to.
“Seems that way, huh? Are we gonna get some dinner then do something else?” You can’t remember the last time you and Katuski went out to dinner without the kids with you.
“Was thinking dinner and a lil bit of fun after that.” You know what he’d implying by “a little bit of fun” by the way he licks his lips.
“That fun better involve some condoms, because I’m done having kids.” He chuckles at that, and that’s when you truly realize how much time the two of you have spent together. When he laughs there are little wrinkles around his eyes and you usually hear him complain about the occasional grey hair growing on his head.
“Fuck rubbers, I’ll pull out.” Katsuki folds his arms just hearing the word condoms.
You snort at his statement, and he glares, “I don’t see what’s so funny.”
“You say you’ll pull out. Every. Single. Time. And guess what? We have a seven month old baby now.” It’s your turn to fold your arms at Katsuki’s ridiculousness.
“That’s different, I was trying get you knocked up.” Your eyes widen and you gasp loudly, “Katsuki!”
“You seriously didn’t realize it?” His lips turn upward again and you chuck a pillow at him which he catches and throws back at you with more force.
“Condoms. That’s final.” He groans quietly as to not wake the baby.
“God, we haven’t used condoms in years. Aren’t you getting to the age of menopause anyway?”
“Are you serious??? I am NOT that old.” You know he’s joking by the way he snickers.
“Fuck, fine. I’ll go buy some. Just for you.” He says it with a grimace on his face, but you know deep down he’s okay with it because he’ll do anything to make you comfortable.
“Thank you baby. I’ll go get ready for dinner while waiting for Mina.”
“Damn, I don’t even know what size I’d be.” The blonde scratches his chin in thought.
“Probably a small.” He charges to the couch to lift you up over his shoulder.
“Put me down!” Your demand is followed by a shriek when he slaps your ass, hard.
“Take it back then.” Back in the earlier stages of your relationship, Katsuki never held back with slapping your ass, but now that you guys have kids, you’ve deemed it inappropriate. You were used to it back then but now it’s caught you off guard since it’s been so long.
“Take what back?” The innocence you fein doesn’t faze your husband at all.
“Take back what you said about my monster sized cock.”
Now you can’t help but laugh at that. “Do you always have to be so childish, Katsuki?
“S’not childish it’s the truth.”
“Okay your dick is big, put me down.” He huffs, clearly not satisfied with your answer, but he puts you down anyway.
10 minutes later he returns from the convenience store, with no bag in hand.
Mina had arrived while he was gone and the two of you had been catching up for a little while.
“So, Katsuki… where are the condoms?” You ask when you realize he has nothing in hand.
“They didn’t have my size.” He says cheekily and you’re sure that was far from the truth.
“Really?” You say sarcastically.
“Really. Anyway, thanks Raccoon Eyes for stepping in to watch our baby.” Mina giggles at his implications earlier.
“You two have fun!!!” You roll your eyes, but you’re secretly very excited to spend time with your husband one on one.

I've heard smoking can harm the effects of estrogen, does this apply to nicotine in general or just smoking?
thank you so much for asking this question, this is an extremely important matter to discuss! smoking while taking estrogen HRT is highly discouraged for 2 reasons.
the first is that smoking (nicotine) has been shown to completely neutralize and eliminate the effects of estradiol altogether:
nicotine reduces the amount of circulating estrogen one has in their system, which can lead to menopause in many individuals.
the second reason is that smoking nicotine can increase risk of life threatening clotting disorders like stroke, heart attack and pulmonary embolism:
many folks are not informed of the fact that estrogen hrt can cause increased risk for pulmonary embolism and heart complications- this is why it's vital to make sure you get testing done by a professional to make sure what levels will be safe for your body, or what complications you may face if you have blood clotting or heart issues.
i can't find too many studies that disseminate different types of tobacco usage (chew, vape, patches, etc.) but it does in fact seem like the nicotine itself, no matter how it's administered, greatly affects one's estrogen levels.
overall, i would say it would be best to completely quit using nicotine if you are planning going on estrogen HRT. not only will you see more of the effects you're looking for, but you'll feel better in general, and have a way reduced risk of stroke and heart attacks. there's little to no point in taking a medication that will become completely useless once administered. i had a problem with smoking cigarettes for a while and i wish you the best if you do, yourself.
i hope this information has been helpful, thanks for stopping by! good luck out there

Humans are the only land animals that goes through menopause!! We continue living long after we stop giving birth, which is so strange compared to the rest of the animal kingdom. (Even chimps, who we share 99% of our DNA with don’t do this.) It’s theorized that having grandmothers around gives us an advantage cuz it allows the babies and mothers a better chance for survival.
The others that go through menopause are pilot whales, narwhals, belugas, and orcas. Orcas are a female led society, usually led by the oldest of them. The grandmother teaches all the young ones where and how to hunt. They can live up to like, 90 years old and the males never leave their mothers side. Orcas are one of the most intelligent animals.
Another orca fact, we think that the dorsal fins collapse in captivity (when the top fin curves over) is probably caused by an increased temperature, making the fin less rigid. It could also be because they aren’t going as fast in captivity, which means there’s less pressure pushing against the fin keeping it upright.
That’s probably more facts than you want, but I couldn’t hold back more than this :)
goodnight! send me fun facts to read when i’m awake and i’ll reblog my favourite ones in morning

notes/replies on that last post (about Florida moving to ban all HRT for adults) suggest it was struck down by a judge, which is a relief obviously. but i do wanna pick up on the response being "set up DIY networks for HRT! organise and help each other!" which is cool and all but... as the latest reblog comment points out, T is a controlled drug.
some quick and dirty googling confirms testosterone is a Schedule III controlled drug in the USA, with most legal sources suggesting possession and/or distribution of Schedule III drugs is a 3rd degree felony. conviction can mean up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. crucially, in Florida (where this law was intended to come into force), selling or distributing a Schedule III drug to minors pushes it up to a 2nd degree felony with a harsher fine/sentence.
i make this point because the response to HRT being restricted is often some variation of "mutual aid DIY network" or just flat suggesting DIY to people as the solution. which is cool if you're on estrogen, but possessing testosterone without a prescription is a literal felony in the USA. T is also a controlled drug in the UK, where trans people face long waiting lists for HRT - it's not illegal to possess T for personal use, but it is illegal to get them sent to you from abroad (importing a controlled drug) and to give them to other people (supply). to legally get T you need a prescription from a doctor.
in a hostile transphobic environment there is no guarantee that prosecuters will decide not to charge trans people for DIYing HRT. "set up DIY networks" for transmascs basically translates to "set up an illegal drug ring".
this is a form of transphobia that affects transmascs but does not affect transfems. it also affects nonbinary and intersex folks seeking or using testosterone HRT. in fact it could potentially impact some nonbinary trans folks worse because the medical gatekeeping around trying to transition as nonbinary is already an uphill struggle.
it is not easy for those of us on T to just DIY it and fuck the system. without a valid prescription our HRT becomes a banned illegal steroid that can land us in serious legal trouble if we get caught, especially if we're distributing it to other people as part of a mutual aid setup. i know we're all very "be gay do crime" for the memes but we are talking about an actual factual go-to-jail-irl crime here.
the fact that our HRT is an illegal drug unless prescribed by a doctor is a form of transandrophobia that affects trans men, transmascs, nonbinary people on masculinising HRT, and intersex people who want or need testosterone. it means that:
we cannot DIY transition without committing a crime, and have to weigh up that risk when considering DIY as an option
setting up a mutual aid testosterone DIY network is even more of a crime, especially if you want to use it to help trans teens
we are thus more dependent on placating medical practitioners and convincing them to prescribe us HRT
we will always be more impacted by any moves to restrict or delay access to HRT because we don't have an easy, legal DIY option
when access to HRT is limited for transphobic reasons, the DIY option comes at much higher risk
where access to HRT is severely delayed (as it is in the UK by years-long waiting lists), it is easier for transfems to start DIYing while they wait than it is for transmascs to do the same thing. in fact in the UK they've started selling estrogen HRT over the counter for menopause, so here if you want to start estrogen DIY all you have to do is get a cis lady friend to ask a pharmacist for menopause treatments. if you wanna start T you have to go on the fucking dark web (I'm exaggerating but... not a lot)
none of this is intended to suggest that transfems don't experience medical transphobia or gatekeeping and this isn't a "trans men have it worse universally across the board" post. there are undoubtedly some areas where it's harder to be transfem. however, this is one area where it is clearly and demonstrably harder to be a trans man. i am pointing this out because i keep seeing people saying that transmascs have it easier or there's no systemic or structural transphobia targeting trans men or we only ever experience misdirected misogyny or whatever. here is your proof that that is not true. this is a form of structural and systemic transphobia that impacts trans men and not trans women. and there is no possible world in which you can argue that testosterone being a controlled drug is somehow misogyny.
#'set up diy networks to pass around hormones!' brenda i could go to jail for 14 years. I'm not fucking joking#transandrophobia#transphobia#trans issues
