The left SUCKS at recruiting people. And so many of you are part of the problem.
The talk about centrists and moderates being the literal devil I see constantly in online leftist spaces is one great example of the left's failure. Yes, it sucks when the people don't see how horrible the right is. But centrists are some of the most open people to discussion- and some already lean left!!
You can't demonize moderates to such an extent that you close yourself off to them and then wonder why you're losing swing states.
Centrists aren't even always people with all the privileges- you will find plenty of people who are part of marginalized groups who are concerned about politicians on all sides.
You can be a smol radical leftist bean all you want who only talks to other smol socialist and communist beans, but you're never going to make the difference you want to in the world that way. It's the cold, hard truth. It doesn't mean you have to engage in discourse with everyone- some people have no real hope of changing and are emotionally draining- just more than your bubble.
I am tired of the left eating itself alive and deranged people like Trump winning.

HEY PLEASE READ !!
if you guys AT ALL enjoy using the internet whether it's for news, entertainment, or communication purposes there is a bill floating around right now that has a good possibility of being passed that will influence the way we ALL use the internet. this bill is called KOSA and it presents itself as "kids online safety act" but in reality it is and will try to sensor SO much important information out there about LGBTQ+, POC communities, feminism and women's rights, and so much more. the bill targets mainly people under 17 but this bill will affect adults too. your favorite social media and websites will become highly cleansed from anything the government deems as "dangerous" to children online. one of the ways they are trying to ensure kids aren't accessing content that is "dangerous" enforces EVERYONE to upload private information or a photo of your ID to access social media apps and websites. IF YOU CARE AT ALL ABOUT PROTECTING FREE SPEACH ON THE INTERNET AND THE WAY WE USE IT TO COMMUNICATE PLEASE HELP ENSURE THAT THIS BILL DOES NOT PASS.
CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS TO SHOW THAT YOU DO NOT SUPPORT THE KOSA BILL.
PLEASE REBLOG AND SHARE !!!!
HERE IS A FREE PETITION YOU CAN SIGN TO HELP:

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries spoke at Al Sharpton’s National Action Network 2024 Convention, activists and organizers from Black Alliance for Peace and PSL disrupted the event. They denounced Jeffries and Sharpton as Black Misleaders, boldly proclaiming that the duo doesn’t represent the majority of Black/African people and instead provides a Blackface cover to U.S. imperialism. Jeffries received over $700,000 in Israel lobby funding in the last election cycle alone. Last year, Jeffries led a bipartisan Congressional delegation to the CARICOM Heads of Government Conference where NO HAITIANS were in the room as the the invasion and occupation of the country was planned. The collective liberation of Africa and Africans is not guaranteed without the liberation of Palestine, Haiti, or even the Borough of Brooklyn that Jeffries was elected to represent instead of approving more money to IOF-trained NYPD!

I’m a firm believer in the passive and small acts of activism.
You’re actively fighting capitalism by resting and taking a break. You’re actively fighting homophobia by wearing a rainbow pin to signify to others your allyship. You’re actively fighting climate change by air drying your hands after washing them. You’re actively fighting childism by letting a minor talk to you about how they’re doing. You’re actively fighting oppressive systems by simply existing.
There have always been others like you, and there always will be others like you. Your existence is rebellion. As long as you’re alive, conservatives and bigots have lost.
You’re a rebel. You’re a warrior. You’re a fighter. And you don’t even know it.

Hey do you have any recs for fat activist men that have blogs? I feel like I know of a lot of good ones, but they seem to be primarily women-focused. Ideally ones that tackle the pressure to look jacked at any cost. Would really appreciate this!
you're so right, we rarely see men doing this work publicly but it's extremely important for men too! a few cisgender men off of the top of my head are @thejaysalazar_ and @williamhornby. there's @bodypositivityforguys, which is an inactive blog but nice to scroll through! also, some trans/nb folks to follow: @decolonizing_fitness, @thefatdoctor, @dashaunlh, @jordallenhall, @blackqueerioh, @thefatsextherapist, @dr_chairbreaker.
you can also search the term "bigorexia," which is what men online are calling the pressure to gain muscle. there's a lot of conversation happening on social media!

The thing about being fat is that it’s isolating.
No one I know views fat people as fully equal to thin people.
I mean, they might like me as a person. But my friends and siblings will look at me and think that I’m automatically less healthy than them.
They might not say it to my face, but I’ve had a friend who implied that I’ll die earlier than her when we were talking about fat bodies.
Thin friends and family see us fat people as thin souls in fat bodies. They’ll talk about fat bodies in a negative way and expect us to agree with them. Or they’ll stop listening whenever we bring up our struggles as fat people. They’ll love us, but they don’t accept our bodies as is.
And this is one reason why fat people are oppressed. You can see this exact same thing happening with other minorities too.

A decade ago, the world had a brief fascination with José Mujica. He was the folksy president of Uruguay who had shunned his nation's presidential palace to live in a tiny tin-roof home with his wife and three-legged dog.
In speeches to world leaders, interviews with foreign journalists and documentaries on Netflix, Pepe Mujica, as he is universally known, shared countless tales from a life story fit for film. He had robbed banks as a leftist urban guerrilla; survived 15 years as a prisoner, including by befriending a frog while kept in a hole in the ground; and helped lead the transformation of his small South American nation into one of the world's healthiest and most socially liberal democracies.
But Mr. Mujica's legacy will be more than his colorful history and commitment to austerity. He became one of Latin America's most influential and important figures in large part for his plain-spoken philosophy on the path to a better society and happier life.
-- Here's a gift link from me to bypass the paywall and read this wonderful New York Times interview of lifelong activist, revolutionary, and former Uruguayan President José "Pepe" Mujica, who is still trying to pass along his hard-earned wisdom and political philosophy even as he's likely dying from cancer.

big news!!
Fat activist Aubrey Gordon of Maintenance Phase, What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Fat, You Just Need To Lose Weight And 19 Other Myths About Fat People, and Your Fat Friend, has an indie documentary film that is now available through streaming!
Starting May 3rd you can watch the film within 30 days for $15. The money directly supports the filmmaker, so please consider renting it!
If you are interested in fat liberation, the nefarious history and inner workings of the diet industry/"wellness culture", antifat socialization, generational body trauma, the shortcomings of the body positive movement, and/or consider yourself a fat ally, I strongly recommend watching the film and checking out Aubrey's other work & that of her peers such as Da'Shaun L. Harrison and Sabrina Strings

Bigotry is not hatred. You need to recognize elements of bigotry that aren't hateful or mean. Bigotry is believing and enforcing someone's status as marginalized. But you don't have to hate someone to believe that they're lesser then you, or desevre less rights.
There are bigots who will treat you as a child that needs protecting, and who can't be trusted with your own freedom. They won't be mean to you, but they think of you as lesser then them none the less. This is especially common with bigotry twords disabled people and twords people society views as female.
When looking to see if someone is bigoted asgisnt a group, don't ask weather or not they hate them, as weather or not they think they deserve less rights.

I am so sick of all of this "be kind" shit from the genderist crowd. Not only is it definitely playing hard into the hands of female socialization to always appear nurturing and sweet and never make men mad under any circumstances, but also... I mean, let's be honest, here. These people are not kind. There is nothing kind about allowing gay, autistic, and/or sexually traumatized children to be medically experimented on for profit after only one, one hour-long psych session, or letting them be sexually groomed by various adult men with neither the knowledge nor the approval of their parents. There is nothing kind about enforcing sexist stereotypes, and scaring people into unnecessary medical procedures because you've lied and told them that they will kill themselves if they don't get them in order to conform. There is nothing kind about using self-ID laws to rob women of safety from predatory men because you think that men's feelings are more important than making sure women aren't traumatized by them in their own private spaces that are supposed to be women-only. There is nothing kind about robbing women of scholarships, awards, and medals meant for women because, again, you believe that men's feelings matter more than anything, including women's ability to have proper livelihoods and role models of the same sex. And there is nothing kind about telling LGB people that they are evil bigots if they don't want to date/fuck trans people of the opposite sex. You don't know that they haven't already spent a good chunk of their lives being ridiculed for their same-sex attraction, and now you want to call them evil because of an innate attraction that they can't control?!
Nothing about any of this is kind, because at the core of real, genuine kindness is genuine empathy and concern for other people and a desire to ensure that they don't come into harm's way. Supporting things that hurt other people or sitting back and watching them self-harm isn't kindness. Even if you're doing it for social approval. Even if they put on a big show about how they supposedly like it, but their faces betray a sadness that they refuse to convey in words and you can't help but get the feeling while talking to them that something is eating them up inside. Continuing to promote it in order to look good or get them to like you isn't kindness, it's acquiescence, and that's not remotely the same thing. Because genuinely kind people are concerned with actions that show genuine concern for other people. They want to do right by them because they care about them. It's all about actually being kind, not just presenting the veneer of it for woke points. The trans crowd are such hard-core individualists that they wouldn't know anything about that.

Everytime I see discourse about kink or nudity at pride I get reminded of the time I went to pride a few years ago with my mother and my sibling- who was 17 at the time and is somewhere on the ace spectrum- and about halfway through, the march went under a gatehouse. Some inhabitants were sitting in their open windows watching the parade. Right before we crossed under them, one of them decided to just... take her shirt off. She wasn't wearing a bra. And you know what happened? People whooped and cheered, and then kept walking. That's it. And there were kids around!! They didn't care. My sibling didn't care. My mother, a cisgender heterosexual woman in her 50s, did not care.
This stuff stops being such a big deal when you go offline. It was basically the same amount of boob you'd see in any perfume ad. No one was like 'what about the children?' And if you didn't wanna see it and looked down, no one would've called you a puritanical prude for that. And it helps to remind myself of that everytime I see kink at pride discourse getting rehashed because at actual pride, people don't care.
#pride#kink discourse#lgbtqia#lgbtq#kink at pride#something DID make my mom uncomfortable later. and it was a bunch of gay guys in front of us making homophobic jokes at each other#she went 'i know they're gay so it's technically hamless but i just don't think it's right'#so it's not like she's some kind of radical liberated queer activist or anything she's just your average liberal parent#and she did not care about this! at all!#to be clear discomfort with sex in an amatonormative society is perfectly fine and normal#'disgust has no ethical weight' goes both for what triggered the disgust response and for the person having the disgust response#and i think i also want to say to those people who don't want to be labeled 'puritans' but can't help the discomfort#i've found people are generally also a lot more gracious about THAT irl#if they aren't being told 'leave' but 'let's make sure you can ignore this and have a good time'#most people who aren't assholes will be receptive to that#i think maybe queer people could stand to learn from disabled people and the way they deal with conflicting access needs#for example allowing support animals excludes people with allergies#you can't get around that by declaring either of these groups unwelcome you have to find a balance#and try to help as many people as you can while compromising
