It always annoys me when anti-vegans say these things. My partner and I initially went vegan in 2020 because of the treatment of workers in slaughterhouses and dairy farms - especially the ones who don't know their rights because they're immigrants. Especially in that year there were so many scandals surrounding insufficient safety measures regarding COVID and the circumstances under which the contract workers "lived" in Germany.

So we decided we didn't want to support that kind of industry any longer. We've been boycotting it ever since. It wasn't until I started to question the phrase "they're being treated like animals" that I went fully vegan. If it's unacceptable to treat humans like that why should it be ok to treat any other species like that or even worse?

I'm also still vegan even though I take medication that isn't vegan (or cruelty free for that matter) because no other medication worked for me. But I avoid all other animal products and products that have been tested on animals to my best knowledge and capabilities.

Speaking of food and ethics, one thing that really bothers me about animal rights activists is the laclk of class awareness. Ironic since they tend to be left leaning. I'm talking about things like insisting everyone can go vegan and demonising people working in slaughterhouses. In my experience, people working there are just normal people doing their job, many of them working class and immigrant workers. Capitalism is the main force behind exploitation of animals and most of us are the victims of it.

anyone who calls all individual actions like thrifting, going vegan or using public transport bad or useless, and instead encourages people to just wait for some kind of big revolution to happen before even considering making any change in their own lives is not actually that interested in things getting better
