Do you have any recs for interesting video essays abt fatphobia? I want to learn more and I like the video essay format but most of the results on YouTube when I search it up are just conservatives making fun of the concept of fatphobia. Thx!
those kinds of videos are so triggering, I’m happy to share some fat positive ones so you don’t have to sift through the trash!! the first two are video essays, the others are talks, presentations, and q&as. but all of these are very long.

Been seeing a lot of body positive influencers share stuff along the lines of “your not defined by your body” or “it doesn’t matter what your body looks like”
which like slay yes ofc but it always feels like they’re saying “you deserve love despite your body” although that’s the tone i feel
i’m here for the “you deserve fat love”, “fat deserves to be loved”. people can love you and your fat, actively love the fat, want the fat!
the gross norm is that people’s preference slant skinny but i’m here for the people that prefer fat! and they should be celebrated for what they like instead of having to like their partners despite their weight.
idk if this makes sense my foot could fully in my mouth but just my fat thoughts

"The best part of being fat is being soft and comfy to cuddle with" "The best part of being fat is knowing people like you for your personality and not your looks" Wrong. The best part of being fat is getting to swim in ice-cold water for FAR longer than my peers. My skinny friends can barely last 10 minutes in the pacific ocean without losing feeling in their fingers meanwhile i can be in there for HOURS. I was born to swim in glacial lakes and icemelt streams. Also I float.

It will never not baffle me how hard society tries to insist that fatness is an abnormality. The average western woman wears plus size clothing. One of the smallest garments on the scale is called a medium. Most people with anorexia are in the overweight bmi category, yet somehow that's known as "atypical anorexia". Fatness is often labeled the cause of a number of diseases, but there are literally no diseases exclusive to fat bodies. Looking at movies and television, you'd think the world was 98% thin people. It's not.
My point isn't that if it was pretty rare to be fat, fatphobia would be okay. Of course not.
My point is that we're surrounded by all these artificial indicators that fatness is unnatural and uncommon and it's just not true?? Humans are not always thin and we've never all been thin and we're not all meant to be thin. Fat humans are a normal type of human. Fatness is a feature, not a bug.

it's okay to be fat and like to eat. it's okay to be fat and enjoy cooking, baking, grilling, canning, drying or preparing foods. it's okay to be fat and work a restaurant or bakery and enjoy what you do. it's okay to be fat and not ashamed of eating in public. it's okay to be fat, but it's especially okay to be fat and have a positive relationship with food. people are supposed to enjoy eating, it's where we get our energy from, it's a very positive and nourishing experience for our bodies, it's okay if it's positive and nourishing to your mental health, too. fat people are allowed to eat, and we're allowed to enjoy doing it, too.

btw just because gay men are not trafficking, raping, and sexually exploiting women does NOT mean they are good???? i didn’t think that needed to be said but someone replied a couple months ago basically saying that gay men are exempt from criticism just because they aren’t brutally raping women. so ???? if you think the only way you can be misogynistic is by brutalizing women i literally have nothing to say to you
sorry that’s been on my mind for like months and i needed to say it
all men means all men, including gay men.

if you reblog any of my posts about men in crop tops or short shorts and youre like "ill do this when im skinny," i need you to take my hand. sweet summer child, listen to me. you do not have to be skinny to show skin. please be fat and show skin. you deserve to wear what you want to wear, and to be cool in the heat. you do not have to punish yourself for being fat.
im not going to lie- some people will judge you. sometimes you will see or hear them judging you. you have to be able to move on. you are not living your life for them. pleasing them by sweating to death is not going to help you, and it's not going to appease fatphobic assholes. you do not need to make yourself small for them.
there are, on the other hand, also a plethora of people who are going to find you smokin hot, and others who will be inspired by your bravery- whether or not *you* feel brave- and it will make them brave too. there will be fat children who see you and realize they too can have all the autonomy and free will skinny people do. please dont hide yourself.

the space that i take up, 2019
an installation i did for uni but it still hits pretty hard. unapologetically take up space and if people don't like it, they can die mad about it đź’•

What does "moralizing food" mean ^^?
moralizing food means ascribing moral value to certain foods and the people who eat them. for example, mcdonald’s food is “bad” to eat and a salad from whole foods is “good” to eat. it goes beyond nutritional value and poses eating a salad as morally superior than eating a burger. according to this logic, if you eat from mcdonald’s every day, you are a morally inferior person. this way of thinking perpetuates fatphobia (it also exists BECAUSE of fatphobia) and leads to disordered eating, fearing eating “bad” foods or being bad for eating them. it’s also deeply intertwined with classism and racism. think about who has access to “good” foods. there’s a reason why cheap and accessible food is demonized and “health” food is gatekept.
all food is necessary. all food provides us energy. what you eat means nothing about your character. food is morally neutral.

I'm thin and I agree.
People who have always been thin, talk about weight-loss as if they are on an equal footing with fat people when it comes to becoming fat or losing weight.
They act like they’re constantly battling against fatness. They talk about things that can make someone fat and how to avoid them, as if fatness would catch them the second they slept badly or ate high calorie and fat foods for a week.
They act as if they’ve been fat themselves, and that they know exactly how fat people became fat, and how we could become thin ”again”. Even though they have no experience on living in fat bodies, they act as if they know us better; know our ”reasons” for being fat better than us.
And it’s like, shut up. You existing in a skinny body does not give you any knowledge or experience on fat people losing weight. You aren’t battling against fatness, avoiding becoming fat by choosing the right things to eat or do. You really just won the genetic lottery: that’s it.
The last thing I want to say: Your small, thin to thin weight-loss doesn’t give you any right to require a 10, 15, 20…40, 45, 50 kg fat to thin weight-loss from someone else, nor does it give you a right to judge whether a 15 kg weight-loss is even possible for someone else.
Byee!

lil tip for everyone bc I feel like people often do the opposite of this out of internalized fatphobia
eat a big meal directly before trying on new clothes. you wanna know whether those outfits will still be comfortable on you after you've eaten. it's not shameful and is in fact very natural to be bigger at different times of day and it's okay to accommodate yourself feeling comfortable during those times too I promise đź’›

When i was skinny and fit i was so afraid of getting fat and it stopped me living my life to my fullest (pun fully intended) because i wanted to be more “attractive” which is based on such fatphobic standards which ive now overcome
but something i did not consider at the time was how awful the people who only like skinny people are. like the people that exclusively date skinny people are actually the worst big douchbag alert the kind of people that think the slightest bit of fat is horrendous and ugly like why the hell would i live life appeal to that demographic, like i get that they’ve been brainwashed by the fatphobic society we’re in but that did not cross me deeply ED brain

Socialists, get into fat liberation theory right the fuck now. I am speaking as a fellow dirty commie, DO IT.
You all like to lump fatness into either the category of "product of bourgeoisie decadence" or "side effect of capitalism forcing us to eat bad food" when neither is the actual case.
Fat people exist in all social classes and all walks of life, often regardless of individual choices.
Fat people are victims of capitalist exploitation at the hands of the multi billion dollar diet and weight loss industry that pushes eating disorder behavior and unnecessary surgeries on to us all in the name of profits.
Fatphobia ties into beauty standards that capitalists use to manipulate people into hating their bodies so they can be sold beauty. Think about how many of the ads you get every day are for weight loss.
