Alex rolled onto her side, and was a little surprised to see Kelly Olsen laying next to her, turned away and curled up the Egyptian cotton of her bed
(their bed)
snoozing softly in the morning light. Alex took the time, as one does, to admire the vulpine curves of Kelly’s back and the elegant sweep of her shoulders. She wanted nothing more but to lean in and plant a soft kiss on the back of her neck and wake her, which would hopefully lead into a glorious Saturday morning of sun-kissed, gentle lovemaking that would result in an forgotten breakfast and breathy declarations seared into hot skin with caressing fingers and tasting lips.
Unfortunately her fucking phone was going off.
Alex rolled out of bed and snatched it, relieved that she hadn’t disturbed her girlfriend. She threw on a button-down as a makeshift robe and plodded out into the kitchen.
She wasn’t expecting a call from…
“Lena?”
“Alex?”
“Yeah, what’s up? You don’t call me often.”
“I need help. It’s an emergency. Sort of.”
Alex glanced back at Kelly’s languid form and one long leg slipping out from under the sheets.
“Where’s Kara?”
“I can’t talk to Kara about this. It has to be you, Alex.”
“Okay, sure,” Alex said, warily. “We can grab a coffee later at-“
“Alex, it has to be now and at my place. This is serious.”
Alex bit her lip. There was a compelling urgency to Lena’s voice. Alex didn’t have Kara’s super senses but she could pick up the nervous energy and hint of feed behind the words.
“Okay,” said Alex. “I’m on my way.”
Alex pulled on her cleanest pants and most readily available tank top and scribbled a note for Kelly (encouraging her to either stay in or be back in bed by the time Alex returned, as their business was unfinished) and grabbed her car keys.
Rising her bike would have been… a sore subject, as it were.
Morning traffic was surprisingly light and she made good time. Lena buzzed her up and she walked into Lena’s weirdly cold penthouse, and found her sister’s best friend pacing rapidly back and forth, dressed in a hoodie and hugging herself.
“Okay,” said Alex. “I’m here, Lena. What’s going on?”
“I’m pregnant,” Lena blurted out, before Alex had finished speaking.
Alex stared at her.
“Funny, I always thought you were a virgin.”
Lena glared at her. Alex knew why Kara was so fascinated by her- she had those big pretty eyes that radiated sadness and set off Kara’s protective instincts. Alex had figured out a long time ago that these two dipshits should just bang it out, but it wasn’t really her place to tell them, especially if it meant outing Lena, or dealing with Kara’s baggage from her weirdly fascist home planet and its bizarre ideas about sex.
(One example of said baggage being her sister’s heart breaking over the alien fuckboi from the asshole planet. If only Kara had realized that her gorgeous kind billionaire best friend was in love with her… you know, before the whole world domination Kryptonite laser thing)
(People who aim orbital fusion cannons at their friends should not cast stones, Alex had decided)
“Alex?”
Oh. Lena was talking. Alex pretty much blue screened there.
“Right, you’re pregnant. Are you sure?”
“I’ve taken two tests, and I’m late.”
Alex rubbed at her chin. Lena looked like a drowned rat, more than a little terrified.
Alex swallowed hard.
“Okay, first question. Did someone hurt you?”
Lena looked up sharply. “What? No.”
Standing to pace the room again, Lena rubbed at her arms as if she were cold.
“So um,” said Alex. “Do you need my help with…”
“I just need someone I can talk to that isn’t Kara. I can’t tell her yet.”
Alex swallowed. Hard. “Okay. Tell me what’s going on.”
Lena sighed and stared out her balcony window.
“Do you remember that game night where we all got sloshed, last month?”
“Yeah,” said Alex. “You hosted. As I recall, Kara was the last to leave.
“She didn’t leave. I… I did something stupid. I tried to seduce her, clumsily. I was drunk off my ass.”
Alex tensed, the hairs on the back of her neck rising.
“Oh,” said Alex. “She brushed you off and you went out for a hookup? I’ve done worse. Are things okay between you?”
Lena stared at Alex as if she’d just grown a second head.
“No, Alex. Kara spent the night. She insisted we not do anything intimate until we both sobered up, but I talked her into staying in bed with me.”
Alex sighed. “You got any of that expensive single malt? Your dad’s brand?”
“It’s eleven in the morning.”
“Well, it’s not like you can drink it. You can have juice.”
Lena glared at her. “Cabinet by the fridge.”
Alex ended up pouring two glasses of cranberry juice and sat down at the kitchen island, pushing one over to Lena.
Lena sighed. “I don’t want to get into the details but we were definitely sober when we woke up.”
“And?” said Alex.
“We, um, we had sex,” said Lena.
“And then she got weird and brushed you off and you went out for a hookup?”
“What? No! Just let me finish telling the story.”
Alex sipped her juice, enjoying the bite on her tongue. “Okay.”
“We’ve been sort of seeing each other ever since. Quietly, keeping it to ourselves. Kara is…” Lena sighed, “she’s very protective and she’s afraid that you’ll get upset if you find out we’re together.”
Alex’s fist closed tightly around her glass.
“Lena,” Alex explained, “I’ve forgiven and forgotten a lot from you, but I’m having a hard time understanding how this happened if you’re with my sister. Did you cheat on her?”
Lena looked up sharply from her glass. “What the fuck, Alex? How could you even ask me that? God, am I ever going to be good enough for your sister? I know I fucked up. I know what I did was wrong. Hurting her was the worst thing I have ever done and I would trade anything to take it back, but we are in…”
“Okay,” Alex cut her off. “Fine. Our lives are fucking weird, so I’ll give you the benefit of tbe doubt. But usually you being pregnant would imply that a man was involved somehow.”
Lena blinked. “What?”
“You’re pregnant. There has to be a father.”
Lena stared at her in abject confusion.
Then she said, “Alex, Kara is the father.”
Alex looked at her for too long a moment.
“I’m sorry but what the fuck, Lena? What did you do?”
“What did I do?” Lena demanded. “It’s not my fault! I mean it is as much my fault as it is hers, but we weren’t worrying about protection the first morning and after that neither of us brought it up. I know, I’ve been stupid, I just…”
Alex’s mouth fell open.
“Protection? You and her? What the fuck?”
Lena took a long pull of cranberry juice and winced at the tartness.
“You didn’t know?”
“Know what?”
“Apparently, under a yellow sun, Kryptonians can, um, adapt to a sexual partner’s body.”
“Okay, okay, okay!” Alex snapped, “okay fine my little sister… with you… and you’re pregnant. Fine, we’re on the same page. What now?”
Lena stared at her, biting her lip as she sought answers.
“Are you going to keep it?”
“Keep it?” said Lena. “It’s Kara’s. Of course I will. That’s not even a question. I’m just… I’m scared, Alex. What does this mean? How is she going to react? What if… Jesus, I’m carrying a half-Kryptonian baby. Is that even safe?”
“It worked out fine for Lois and Clark. Twice. You’ll be okay, if having the baby is what you want.”
“It is,” said Lena. “Kara makes me deliriously happy, Alex. She was like a knight in shining armor that night and she was so kind and gentle the next morning and it’s like… like this was natural. We both fell into it so easily that it was like it had always been this way. I love her. I love her so much.”
Lena was red faced, looking embarrassed as she cast her eyes down. Alex reached across the table and took her hands.
“Well, I’m glad you dipshits figured it out. Watching you two blush and stammer at each other for another five years would’ve killed me.”
“ALEX!”
“If you want my blessing, you have it. I’m sorry I doubted you, but in my defense, I didn’t know she could… do… that.”
“Uh, right,” said Lena. “I want to call her and ask her to come over now so I can tell her. I know this should be a private moment but… can you stay? It just feels like you belong here for this.”
“Yeah, Lena. I’ll stay.”
Lena smiled.

Superman doesn't know how to curse
So, Clockwork had sent him to another dimension. No problem with that, he actually liked to explore the different dimensions, though he wondered what "lesson" was there for him to learn.
He avoided all nearby beings (he didn't want to face them, even though he had so many questions for the Martian). His plan was going spectacularly well until he tripped over a chair and hit his foot. The pain was immense and he just started cursing.
Now, Jazz was very sensitive about the "we don't swear in this house" part since he was little so, well, he had to get creative and start swearing in languages she didn't understand. Alien languages he had known in the Infinite Realms.
The first thing that gave away the halfa wasn't the lack of invisibility or the Watchtower-wide intruder alert. No, what gave him away was an embarrassed Superman who didn't know how to explain to his teamates that yes, that boy was speaking in Krypton language, and no, he couldn't translate because he didn't want to repeat what he was saying, but no, it wasn't bad.
Conner and Kara who were visiting laughed at Clark's face, he looked completely mortified. Bruce's insistence on knowing exactly what the boy was saying wasn't helping him. While Conner didn't know as much of the language as the other two Supers, he could tell a curse word when he heard it.
Danny looked up to find many individuals looking at him uncertainly, he chuckled, noticing that a man with bat ears was staring at him and a boy in blue pajamas couldn't bear to look at him.
It was the moment where he realized that his invisibility had failed him, so he did the only thing he could think of: he raised his hand in greeting. And disappeared immediately after.

also there's no narrative or logical justification in the world to make sense of "I got mad that I didn't know everything about a guy I met at work 5 days ago". The break-neck-fast-paced speed of MAWS worked against its own logic. If Lois and Clark had known each other for years (like in cw supergirl with Lena and Kara, where their relationship got messy over time) then of course that would be more believable!
"i'm mad that the cute guy I met at work 5 days ago didn't tell me he was an undocumented alien immigrant because my xenophobe military dad traumatized me" like be so serious

Lena discovers she is part alien once she’s finally old enough to reach her species age of sexual maturity. Just a ficlet now but should I write more?
XXXXXX
It’s a usual Monday morning when Lena wakes up alone in her penthouse at the crack of dawn. What’s unusual is that Lena feels a weird pressure on her tailbone. Curiously, she sits up and lifts the bedsheets to look at her legs.
Holy shit.
Lena has a tail. A tail that was definitely not there yesterday and she definitely should not have. She should probably call Kara. But also, I have a tail!?
For a moment, Lena simply stares dumbfounded at her new limb. It is long and slender, covered in shiny green scales. Then she wonders if she can control it. So Lena focuses on the strange addition, commanding it to move even just an inch. She probably should have focused more on what she wanted the tail to do because suddenly it flys up and hits her in the face.
“Hey!” Lena exclaims angrily at the tail, even if she was technically the one who hit herself in the face. Intrigued, Lena notes that even though she has acquired a tail, her brain does not seem to have the muscle memory to control it. She focuses again on the tail and imagines her muscles relaxing. Slowly, the tail sags and then falls back onto her bed away from her face.
With shaking hands Lena reaches towards the tail (her tail?) and picks it up with both hands. The base of the tail closer to her tailbone is thick and several inches wide, but as it moves away from the base it becomes thin like a lizard’s tail. The scales are cool and smooth in her palms. The tail has weight to it. Lena can feel the muscle underneath if she pushes down on the scaled flesh. Moving her up closer to the tip of the tail, she experimentally rubs the tail tip to see if it feels different to the rest.
“Ah!” Lena gasps. As soon as she rubs the end she gets a shot of surprising pleasure to her groin. She drops the tail from her hands like it’s on fire and scoots up the bed as if she can get away from it. Which she quickly realizes she can’t, since the tail is attached to her.
With her mind moving at a mile a minute, Lena quickly takes stock of her current situation. It’s Monday morning in National City and she has woken up with a prehensile tail. She has no idea where it came from and judging by how it felt, she has a vague idea of its uses.
It is definitely time to call kara.
Thoroughly confused and annoyed, Lena throws her legs over the edge of the bed to stand up. Only to be met with another shock because the floor underneath her feels wrong. She should be standing on her pristine hardwood floors, but the sensation under her feet is rough and grainy. Lena looks down at the floor to confirm that yes, that is her hardwood floor she’s standing on. So why does it suddenly feel so weird?
Lena stands still next to her bed as she takes stock of her physical sensations. She had been too preoccupied with the tail to notice earlier, but her silk nightgown feels different against her skin. Almost as if she can feel each individual fiber. She glances down at her hands to notice her nails have become sharper and grown two inches. How she didn’t notice they’d change when she had used them just a second ago was boggling. But then again, she was rather preoccupied with the tail at that moment. Concern began to tickle at the back of Lena's mind. Were these all the changes she had experienced, or were there more?
Carefully, while trying to ignore the strange new sensation of the floor on her feet, Lena walked over to her full body mirror. The tail hung limply against her body, as she did not know how to move it while she was walking. She was hesitant to look up into the reflective glass. What if she had become some kind of hideous monster overnight? With agonizing slowness she raised her head and took herself in.
The first things she noticed were the things she had already accounted for. She had a long scaled tail and her finger and toenails had gotten longer and sharper. Aside from the ‘claws’ she had now acquired, her arms and legs looked fine. She drew her gaze up to her shoulder and saw that they had a small smattering of scales similar in color to the ones on her tail. Then with a growing sense of fear she looked at her face. To Lena’s immense relief, she had kept her beautiful features. Her cheekbones had a small bit of scales like her shoulders had. But what really struck her was that her eyes had changed. She still had her heterochromia that Kara loved to gush over, but her pupils had become thin slits like that of a cat.
Perhaps it was a little bit vain that Lena's first reaction to her new form was to thank whatever gods existed above that she had not become a hideous abomination. However, the question of why she now looked like a human-lizard hybrid still hung in the air. Tearing her gaze away from the mirror, Lena awkwardly walked back to her nightstand while dragging her limp tail behind her. Her hands once again shaking as she reached for her smartphone and dialed a number she now knew by heart.
“Kara,” Lena said, “This is Lena and I really need your help.”

Kara's mood was difficult to read if you didn't know what to look for. Smiles came easily for her, no matter what. But Lena had learned to read Kara no matter what. If she was happy she'd go for some of her favourites, though they also made an appearance when she was sad. Those were important to read in proportions, more food like on Krypton? Sad about outliving people. More of the earth food? Probably happy. It was difficult for Lena to learn it though, because she hadn't realised it. The reason she hadn't realised it was simple. Kara only did that with other people. It was only when she was invited to a game night did she see it. Kara had specific food she'd always get for Lena. At first Lena had been confused, but when Kara had gifted her with a book on Krypton's scientific advances she realized it. Just in a footnote, a reference to a cultural practice only practiced within a certain city. Nothing more than a curiosity to the author, something so normal. But when she compared the mentioned food to what Kara got her, it became clear quickly. Argon had a tradition of finding specific edible flowers, which used to grow around the city before the large advances in science destroyed the wildlife. Those edible flowers were for meals you only made your intended. Kara was courting her with food. And if that wasn't the most Kara thing to do, Lena wasn't in love with that oblivious alien. Now what was the Kryptonian way to accept that.

Lena knew her pulse was racing, but Kara was either pretending not to notice or too tired to care. They were curled together tightly under the blanket, Kara’s head resting on Lena’s chest, the pair of them curled into each other with a desperate intensity.
An outside observer would see no difference between the way that Nia was tucked and folded neatly into Brainy, his head lolling against hers as they slept on the other side of the couch. Nor would they see any discrepancy between the way Kelly and Alex were stuffed together in the armchair next to it, curled up in one another like a pair of cats tucked in against a cold night.
The outside observer would see three couples who’d begun with a game night and progressed to an unplanned movie marathon and started to crash out and fall asleep, full of wine and mirth and too tired to get home.
One couple wasn’t. One of these pairings was just friends, and the knowledge of it was like a ragged gaping hole in her chest, where something had crushed and torn through her and left a gap that would never be filled.
Lena was terrified.
Alex and Kelly were married now. Nia and Querl were getting very serious. They were going to start building lives.
Kara’s coming out had gone well. She was truly growing into herself in a way that frightened Lena as much as it warmed her heart. The Girl was growing to equal the Super, Kara becoming more and more herself even without the crutch that her suit provided. She was uninhibited, free.
In her secret heart, Lena hated it. In the end, Kara had been right, damn her. The Secret had meant something. They once had a space that was uniquely theirs, where Kara was a person only Lena knew, that not even Alex ever experienced. Yes, the Secret frequently intruded, but in those moments where it hadn’t, where their mutual pining to be normal met and they used it to build a space all their own, the real Kara came out.
That space had been shattered by their falling out but rebuilt stronger, its foundations laid the day that Kara came home from the hell outside the multiverse, the first brick laid when Kara had leaned in as Lena broke their hug and stared at Lena’s lips.
God damn me, Lena thought, why didn’t I make the move? Why didn’t I do it?
The moment was lost.
She looked down at Kara now, purring away on her chest. Kara had begun embracing her alien self, slowly stripping away all the ablative secrets that she’d layered onto herself to pass for human. Lena was delighted to discover that Kara could do that; that if she relaxed it would happen on its own. It made Lena contented and sleepy, especially when they were close in like this.
God, she was so beautiful. Lena had never laid eyes on Kara’s equal and never would, and when she walked tall and smiled and flashed her easy, invulnerable confidence, the sight of her was almost unbearable. Looking at Kara left marks on Lena’s heart the way that looking at the sun left burnt streaks in her vision.
Fear, cold and merciless, clenched in her chest. One day it would happen. Someone would succeed where James and William had failed and Mon-El had come so close. They’d snatch her away and Kara would throw herself into it with abandon and Lena would lose her.
Lena pressed her eyes shut to fight back tears. She willed herself not to mourn a loss before its time, to savor the soft weight propped on her chest and the tangy scent of Kara’s skin but she couldn’t help herself.
“Lena?” Kara whispered.
With all the guilt of a thief found red-handed, Lena froze, her mouth dry.
“What’s wrong?”
Lena glanced around the room. The others were all sleeping soundly, passed out in each others arms. Lena wondered what that was like, to sleep with the joyful comfort of assurance that they would not wake alone, that the others would stay.
“Nothing,” Lena lied.
Kara knew. In the dark, her blue eyes seemed to emit a faint light, another peculiarity of Kryptonian physiology that Lena honestly just hadn’t noticed before The Secret was revealed.
Kara turned slightly, shifted, and tucked the blanket in close, wrapped tightly round them. It was chilly in her loft and Kara was like a living furnace, warming Lena’s cold bones. When Kara slipped a hand free, her skin was fever hot on Lena’s cheek. She leaned into the touch, greedy for it.
“It’s okay,” Kara murmured. “Nobody’s gonna get you while I’m here.”
Lena smiled sadly. Kara knew about the night terrors, about her fears and how she sometimes hated the dark, because the barriers of their friendship, the walls that defined it, were so bent and strained that they’d never return to shape, even as they refused to yield.
“That’s not what I’m scared of. I’m scared of when someone gets you.”
Kara blinked.
“Sooner or later you won’t have as much time for your best friend. You’ll find someone else.”
“Why would I want someone else?” Kara said, almost too loud. “I want you.”
Oh God, that hurt so much. It made the frayed edges of that hole in her ache, at once raw and fresh and old and desiccated. She couldn’t go on like this. Why did Kara say things like that?”
“Were you going to kiss me the night we got you back?”
Kara flinched, and now she looked the thief.
They were both silent. Kara stared.
“I was scared to. We’d only just… I was afraid everything would break.”
Lena swallowed hard.
“Kara, what the hell are you waiting for?”
She blinked a few times more, a storm of emotions clouding her angelic features. She flushed, eyes wide, and was looking directly, openly at Lena’s lips.
She tasted like cherry lip balm and red wine. Kara’s kisses were like Kara herself, ardent and gentle in equal measure, the chaste softness of pressed lips smoldering with the same alien fire that burned under her lushly warm skin. Lena moaned softly, and that from little more than a soft peck on the lips.
She was an addict who’d just tasted the ambrosia of her dreams and her head was spinning. In an instant everything had changed, though Kara had barely moved. There was something new in the way Kara’s arms snaked around her. A slight shift and Kara touched her forehead to Lena’s before kissing her again, deeply this time. Lena let her eyes drift shut and savored it.
“I. Am not. Going. Anywhere.”
There was a heavy, almost oppressive silence. A sob of relief choked out of Lena and she hugged Kara fiercely, freely, joyfully free to crush herself against her unbreakable love.
“I mean,” Alex said, “you could move to the bedroom. I think we’d all prefer that.”
Lena almost jumped out of her skin. Kara let out an equally surprised yelp, as they both realized that everyone else was awake and watching them get lost in each other.
Lena cleared her throat. Kara sat up. She was beet red, and Lena was sure she was, too.
“Guys,” said Kara. “Get out.”

4:02 minutes.
Lena ran. Her boots crunched on red stone and pebbles. Behind her, a massive creature roared and swiped a stone column. It cracked and shattered with a boom. Rocks spilled onto the narrow canyon behind her.
Her breaths fogged the helmet of her suit, and her oxygen levels were far too low. The camp was still a mile away, and above her the sun blazed an rusty orange.
Another roar. Lena dodged and ducked as rocks rained around her. Her muscles ached, and she pushed herself further. The ground shook from the chase, and she stumbled. A six clawed hand swept toward her. She threw herself forward. The paw slammed into the ground and a wave of dust and vibrations quaked the ground.
3:25 minutes
"Fuck," Lena grabbed a rock and hauled herself to her feet. "Camp Supergirl, please come in." She dodged another attack, and crash against the cliff side sent an avalanche of rock and debris into the narrow valley.
Lena scrambled forward and slipped on the detritus. She wasn't getting out of this alive, was she? "Fuck this planet," she growled. Ever since they'd crashed, it'd been one disaster after another. She looked up at the sun as she ran, the sun that was too close to the red star frequencies. So Kara had heavily diminished powers here.
Which meant even if anyone heard her call, they'd never reach her in time. "Camp Supergirl," she tried again, desperately. "For fucks sake, answer! I retrieved the power source. But one of those bear monsters chases me in the canyon south-east of camp."
2:09 minutes
"Groar!!" The four-limbed monstrosity with its four eyes, webbed claws, and massive muscles stomped toward her. A rock flew over her head, barely missing her.
Ahead, the canyon narrowed further. She zig-zagged in hopes of making it harder to hit. But the monster was way too close. She wasn't going to make it.
"Kara!" she tried again, desperate, "Alex, Nia, Kelly, for fucks sake, answer!"
Her oxygen meter began to squeal. Exhaustion crept through her limbs. The virtual clock in the right corner of her visor counted down. She patted her belts where the device she'd stolen sat still. She had to reach camp in time.
0:59 minutes.
The narrow gap in the canyon loomed before her. She can do this. She will reach the camp.
The monster howled. The ground shook, more ruddy rocks tumbled into the canyon. Smaller ones bombarded her suit, and the larger ones she dodged.
33 seconds.
She leaped for the gap. Her headset crackled.
"Lena? Lena, I'm coming!" Kara's voice crackled with static, the sound faint.
"20 seconds left, Kara!" She fell into the gap, and bounced against the red rock. A piece of her suit cracked, and alarms screeched. A leak. Fuck.
Ahead, the entrance to the camp had been marked with an "El" signal carved in the stone. The gap ended in what looked like jagged red rock, but it shimmered with the hologram. But it was still several hundred feet away, and even if she made it, the alien device was even further, nestled in a cavern on the far side of their camp.
"Shit, Kara, I won't make it." Despair sunk deep into her bones. She pushed off the rocks, her run slowing as her muscles screamed for relief.
A massive bear monstrosity crashed into the side of the canyon. It pawed at the gully and ripped apart its entrance.
4 seconds.
Rocks torn from the sides of the gully crashed down on her. One smashed into her side, and she fell against the cliff. Another crushed her arm. She screamed. "Fuck!"
"Lena!" Kara's voice came from behind, beyond the monster.
The hologram shimmered out of reach.
1 second.
Lena slumped, exhausted, in pain, and furious. They'd failed yet again.
A brilliant red-orange light flooded the land, wrapped around Lena, and she closed her eyes in pain.
The world blurred into a mirage of rainbows, her actions running backward like an old VHS from earth being rewound. She watched the chase move backward, saw the moment she made her mistake, reviewed the spot she'd stolen the power source, and the place her team split up to search for the potential power surges.
A sucking noise barraged her ears. Her body felt squeezed like a lemon, and a jolt reverberated through her brain.
She sucked in a breath and opened her eyes to the roof of their alien cavern. The alien device nestled next to her pulsed with a red-oranged light, and her arms were wrapped around Kara's waist. Kara's hand lay against the device, and the rest of their team shouted our warnings.
"Fuck," Lena pulled back from Kara. "Fuck, not again."
Kara blinked and looked at her. "All right, we'll just try again."
Lena suppressed the urge to scream. It'd been 22 tries already. Or maybe 23. 24? She was losing count.
"Try again for what?" Nia stepped forward. "You two okay? That was a really intense light flare."
Lena sagged against Kara's side. Right, of course, only Kara and her retained memories of their attempts. "We're fine," she said, through gritted teeth. "Change of plans." She helped Kara to her feet and turned to face their team. "We need a new power source." This time they were not splitting up.
"We can split up--" Kara started to say, just like always.
But Lena interrupted her, "No, we go in teams of two this time." She hoped, for her sanity, that they made it back with the source.
Because this time loop needed to end. Otherwise, they'll never escape the damn planet.

Kara had a guilty pleasure, one she didn’t share with anyone. It would have been awkward, and besides, everyone- friends, family, Lena; they all would have mocked her, relentlessly. It was the first of September and Kara was bracing herself for six months of the most exquisite torture.
She wasn’t expecting it on Lena’s desk.
When she walked into the office, the scent hit her. It tickled something in her brain and set her nerves alight, cascading shivers of excitement running down her limbs.
Kryptonians, you see, are not human. They are aliens, and react to things, to stimuli, in ways humans do not. The most obvious implication of this is Kryptonite, or rather the Kryptonite radiation it emits, which is unique to Kara’s lost homeworld and is deadly poisonous to her while being essentially harmless to humans without both significant and prolonged exposure.
There were, however, other things that Kara responded to differently. Certain flavors were too intense; some things her peers found pleasant were overwhelming or inexplicably bitter or otherwise unpalatable. Her enhanced hearing, even without her powers active, made her sensitive to noises that a human wouldn’t even notice. The list went on and on.
One thing in particular, though, was especially… stimulating to her. It got her motor going, as it were. Not like that, of course. Ironically it had the same effect on her that caffeine had on humans, even in small quantities.
There was something in pumpkin spice that excited Kara. Just not like that.
Okay, maybe a little like that. Even the scent of it made her feel things, and there was a steaming hot cup of it on Lena Luthor’s desk.
Kara had been summoned over some editorial matter of little consequence, probably an excuse to chat. When she stepped into her office, Kara stopped dead because Lena reached across her desk and picked up that cup and Kara was already having trouble.
Lena was… Lena. She was dressed in thigh high boots and black jeans and a tight, low cut green sweater that revealed a generous swell of cleavage that immediately drew Kara’s brazen eye. She caught herself looking and quickly put a stop to it, but Lena was looking right at her, smoldering green eyes peering at her over the rim of that damned coffee cup.
Great Rao, Lena was beautiful. Her hair was swept over one shoulder, baring the elegant column of her neck and her sharp jawline. Her visible ear carried multiple piercings dripping with diamonds and there was a faint pink tinge to her pale cheek. The red of her lipstick was almost violent and she positively smoldered. One might have thought she was dolled up for a photo shoot.
Kara was staring at those lips as she took a sip of coffee, leaving a faint white stain on the white cup.
Such a visual feast with the mere scent of the spices in her coffee was enough to weaken Kara’s knees and make her secretly fidget her toes inside her shoes. It was only a quick chat, a five minute conversation, but it was excruciating trying to get through it like this.
“Earth to Kara,” Lena sighed.
Kara blinked. “Okay.”
“Okay, you’ll go?”
“Where am I going?”
Lena rolled her eyes.
“Okay, Kara, you’re benched.”
“Wait, what?”
Lena huffed. “Look, it’s noble, going days without sleep while you live your double life, and we did agree that Supergirl duties will take precedence over your work here… but I can see you’re exhausted. I can’t order you to stop rescuing cats from trees and helping old ladies with their taxes, but I can order you to take the rest of the week off from working here. Which you are. Starting now.”
Actually, Lena probably could order her to stop doing things. Lena could probably order to do anything with the spicy tang in her nostrils and the quivering weakness in her limbs as heat gathered low in her belly. Kara was glad that she had just been ordered out.
“Oh,” Lena said, “and stop at Noonan’s on your way out. I hear the pumpkin spice lattes are your favorite and well,” she gave her cup a little shake.
Kara decided she would not stop at Noonan’s.
She stopped at Noonan’s. She got a PSL and a pumpkin spice bear claw and a dozen pumpkin spice donuts and consumed them all in the span of five minutes once she set foot inside her loft, after which she spent the next thirty in the shower thinking about Lena’s pillowy red lips and how kissable they were and her pale skin and how badly she wanted to mark it as hers and she sort of spent an hour in a pumpkin spice fueled fugue, and then passed out on her bed buck-ass naked.
Which was where she still was when the knock came at the door.
Her head shot up from the bed and she realized that it was movie night and she was hosting. She had no movies picked out, no snacks, and no clothes.
What she did have was super-speed, and this had a spread of frozen snacks ready to go in the oven, and a stack of blu-rays to be voted on, and pants. She needed pants and probably a bra and definitely a shirt. Humans were weird about their torsos. Fortunately Kryptonians were, too. Kara was rather lucky that she hadn’t landed on a planet that considered shirts obscene.
There were at least two like that, which isn’t a lot, but it was more than you’d think.
Kara opened the door and greeted Alex and Kelly, ushering them in. Brainy and Nia were next.
Lena showed up last, dressed in one of her peculiar movie night fits- a stylish leather jacket over honest to god fluffy pajamas, like a fashion plate going to a slumber party. Her hair was down and wavy and she looked soft and inviting and Kara wanted to snuggle her relentlessly and was very glad that the pumpkin spice was largely out of her system.
Largely.
Oh.
Lena lifted the two six packs she was carrying, giving Kara a suggestive arch of her eyebrow. Lena liked to bring gifts when Kara hosted, usually wine. Tonight she had twelve chilled bottles of… pumpkin spice beer.
Kara wanted to scream. Or possibly moan. Or possibly make Lena moan and maybe spank her a little.
Fuck!
“Hi-hi,” said Kara.
“Hi yourself,” said Lena. “Mind if I come in, or do you want to drink these right here?”
“C-come in,” said Kara.
“Eyyyyyy,” said Alex, as she saw the six packs. “The spice must flow!”
“The spice must flow,” Kelly repeated.
“Chai Hulud,” Nia said, in a faux-deep voice.
“I believe it is “Shai Hulud,” said Brainy.
“Sure, honey,” said Nia, patting his knee.
“You gonna hand those out?” said Alex.
“These are for our host,” said Lena. “Kara has plenty of spirits in her fridge.”
Alex busted out laughing, confusing the others.
Kara remained stone-faced.
Movie night then went on as normal. Everyone took seats, the first movie was voted on, snacks were enjoyed and beers were had. The pumpkin bottles sat in their cardboard holders in the fridge, untouched.
Until they got into the second movie, and Lena sauntered over from the kitchen carrying two bottles, and thrust one into Kara’s hands as she wedged herself in between Kara and Nia, casually tossing her legs over Kara’s lap.
Kara steadfastly did not look. She would not look. She would not look. Surely Lena was just making herself comfortable and private hadn’t noticed that the top couple of buttons on her pajama top had popped themselves and she was showing quite a generous amount of…
Kara looked away sharply. She had looked.
“Do the thing, darling,” said Lena.
“Do the thing! Do the thing! Do they thing!” Nia began to chant.
Sighing, Kara took her bottle and Lena’s, and popped the caps loose with a flock of her thumbs. Lena squealed in delight and Kara realized that actually drinking this concoction was an amazingly terrible idea.
Especially since Lena was basically in her lap now.
Kara tried not to drink, but the hint of that spicy scent from the beer was enough to make every nerve ending tingle and start a fire in her belly. She took a long pull on it and quickly realized she’d drained the bottle in one go.
Lena, grinning, stood up. Kara watched every sway of her hips as she marched to the kitchen, bent to grab another bottle from the bottom shelf of the fridge, and sashayed back to shamelessly plop right in Kara’s lap and offer her the new bottle.
The little display has gotten at least Alex’s attention, and she looked somehow at once horrified and amused and whispered to Kelly, who snorted.
Nia picked up on it next, after Kara had downed her fourth one of the cured pumpkin brews and her brain was sloshing around in sweet cinnamony goodness.
She was running into a considerable problem. Lena was curled up in her lap, draped across her in fact, a soft weight that was driving her absolute insane even as the scent of Lena’s… of Lena mingled with the spices singing in her veins. She forgot the movie. She forgot the existence of everything but Lena, and barely noticed when Alex announced,
“Guys, it’s late. I think we better head out so that Kara and Lena can clean up.”
“Perhaps we should help,” Brainy suggested.
“Nah, let’s go,” said Nia, who then muttered, “seriously Querl we need to go.”
Kara blinked and watched them all pile out, Alex shooting Lena a knowing look before rolling her eyes and closing the door.
Two seconds after the door closed, Lena twisted languidly in Kara’s lap, and was now no longer sitting in her lap but straddling her.
Kryptonians, you see, are not human. They are aliens, and react to things, to stimuli, in ways humans do not. They also have anatomical structures that humans do not, something that was was currently causing Kara to blush furiously, because Lena was well… sitting on it.
“I can explain,” Kara squeaked.
The look Lena gave her would have been devastating, pumpkin spice or no pumpkin spice. Lena’s face filled her vision as Lena placed her hands on Kara’s sides and rolled her hips, dragging a groan out of her.
“Is that explanation going to include a hands on demonstration?” said Lena. “I may need a few rounds before I fully understand.”
Kara swallowed hard. “You mean… you w-want to…”
“Kara,” Lena sighed. “How is someone who’s been flirting with me for five years so bad at flirting?”
Kara stared at her.
“Just, um, to clarify, you’re flirting with me, right?”
“I’m sitting in your lap unbuttoning my top, darling. I believe that qualifies.”
“You’re what?”
Lena grinned and swept her fingers down her chest, popping the rest of the buttons in sequence. The pajama top suddenly hung lose, baring the lush inner curves of her breasts while obscuring the rest of her in an agonizing promise.
Kara, finally, after years of this, took the hint and had Lena relieved of her fuzzy pajamas by the time they hit the bed.
The next morning, or rather next afternoon when Lena woke up, Kara looked over at her. Her eyes had just opened and she was grinning ear to ear.
“Lena?” said Kara.
“Yes? Before we go again I’m going to need a protein shake and some supplements.”
Kara felt her ears burning as her cheeks heated.
“Did you know about the pumpkin spice thing?”
“Pumpkin spice thing?” said Lena.
“Alex told you, right?”
Lena pursed her lips.
“Nope.”
“Cat Grant?”
“No, although I did ask her and she said you, and I quote, ‘creamed your khakis’ in front of her one time.”
“Then who?”
Lena grinned.
“I went to Clark to ask him the right way to go about seeking your attentions. Lois overheard and pulled me aside. Apparently you two share the same weaknesses.”
“My only weakness is you, baby.”
“Oh, it’s baby now, is it?”
“Yup,” said Kara.
