Alex rolled onto her side, and was a little surprised to see Kelly Olsen laying next to her, turned away and curled up the Egyptian cotton of her bed
(their bed)
snoozing softly in the morning light. Alex took the time, as one does, to admire the vulpine curves of Kelly’s back and the elegant sweep of her shoulders. She wanted nothing more but to lean in and plant a soft kiss on the back of her neck and wake her, which would hopefully lead into a glorious Saturday morning of sun-kissed, gentle lovemaking that would result in an forgotten breakfast and breathy declarations seared into hot skin with caressing fingers and tasting lips.
Unfortunately her fucking phone was going off.
Alex rolled out of bed and snatched it, relieved that she hadn’t disturbed her girlfriend. She threw on a button-down as a makeshift robe and plodded out into the kitchen.
She wasn’t expecting a call from…
“Lena?”
“Alex?”
“Yeah, what’s up? You don’t call me often.”
“I need help. It’s an emergency. Sort of.”
Alex glanced back at Kelly’s languid form and one long leg slipping out from under the sheets.
“Where’s Kara?”
“I can’t talk to Kara about this. It has to be you, Alex.”
“Okay, sure,” Alex said, warily. “We can grab a coffee later at-“
“Alex, it has to be now and at my place. This is serious.”
Alex bit her lip. There was a compelling urgency to Lena’s voice. Alex didn’t have Kara’s super senses but she could pick up the nervous energy and hint of feed behind the words.
“Okay,” said Alex. “I’m on my way.”
Alex pulled on her cleanest pants and most readily available tank top and scribbled a note for Kelly (encouraging her to either stay in or be back in bed by the time Alex returned, as their business was unfinished) and grabbed her car keys.
Rising her bike would have been… a sore subject, as it were.
Morning traffic was surprisingly light and she made good time. Lena buzzed her up and she walked into Lena’s weirdly cold penthouse, and found her sister’s best friend pacing rapidly back and forth, dressed in a hoodie and hugging herself.
“Okay,” said Alex. “I’m here, Lena. What’s going on?”
“I’m pregnant,” Lena blurted out, before Alex had finished speaking.
Alex stared at her.
“Funny, I always thought you were a virgin.”
Lena glared at her. Alex knew why Kara was so fascinated by her- she had those big pretty eyes that radiated sadness and set off Kara’s protective instincts. Alex had figured out a long time ago that these two dipshits should just bang it out, but it wasn’t really her place to tell them, especially if it meant outing Lena, or dealing with Kara’s baggage from her weirdly fascist home planet and its bizarre ideas about sex.
(One example of said baggage being her sister’s heart breaking over the alien fuckboi from the asshole planet. If only Kara had realized that her gorgeous kind billionaire best friend was in love with her… you know, before the whole world domination Kryptonite laser thing)
(People who aim orbital fusion cannons at their friends should not cast stones, Alex had decided)
“Alex?”
Oh. Lena was talking. Alex pretty much blue screened there.
“Right, you’re pregnant. Are you sure?”
“I’ve taken two tests, and I’m late.”
Alex rubbed at her chin. Lena looked like a drowned rat, more than a little terrified.
Alex swallowed hard.
“Okay, first question. Did someone hurt you?”
Lena looked up sharply. “What? No.”
Standing to pace the room again, Lena rubbed at her arms as if she were cold.
“So um,” said Alex. “Do you need my help with…”
“I just need someone I can talk to that isn’t Kara. I can’t tell her yet.”
Alex swallowed. Hard. “Okay. Tell me what’s going on.”
Lena sighed and stared out her balcony window.
“Do you remember that game night where we all got sloshed, last month?”
“Yeah,” said Alex. “You hosted. As I recall, Kara was the last to leave.
“She didn’t leave. I… I did something stupid. I tried to seduce her, clumsily. I was drunk off my ass.”
Alex tensed, the hairs on the back of her neck rising.
“Oh,” said Alex. “She brushed you off and you went out for a hookup? I’ve done worse. Are things okay between you?”
Lena stared at Alex as if she’d just grown a second head.
“No, Alex. Kara spent the night. She insisted we not do anything intimate until we both sobered up, but I talked her into staying in bed with me.”
Alex sighed. “You got any of that expensive single malt? Your dad’s brand?”
“It’s eleven in the morning.”
“Well, it’s not like you can drink it. You can have juice.”
Lena glared at her. “Cabinet by the fridge.”
Alex ended up pouring two glasses of cranberry juice and sat down at the kitchen island, pushing one over to Lena.
Lena sighed. “I don’t want to get into the details but we were definitely sober when we woke up.”
“And?” said Alex.
“We, um, we had sex,” said Lena.
“And then she got weird and brushed you off and you went out for a hookup?”
“What? No! Just let me finish telling the story.”
Alex sipped her juice, enjoying the bite on her tongue. “Okay.”
“We’ve been sort of seeing each other ever since. Quietly, keeping it to ourselves. Kara is…” Lena sighed, “she’s very protective and she’s afraid that you’ll get upset if you find out we’re together.”
Alex’s fist closed tightly around her glass.
“Lena,” Alex explained, “I’ve forgiven and forgotten a lot from you, but I’m having a hard time understanding how this happened if you’re with my sister. Did you cheat on her?”
Lena looked up sharply from her glass. “What the fuck, Alex? How could you even ask me that? God, am I ever going to be good enough for your sister? I know I fucked up. I know what I did was wrong. Hurting her was the worst thing I have ever done and I would trade anything to take it back, but we are in…”
“Okay,” Alex cut her off. “Fine. Our lives are fucking weird, so I’ll give you the benefit of tbe doubt. But usually you being pregnant would imply that a man was involved somehow.”
Lena blinked. “What?”
“You’re pregnant. There has to be a father.”
Lena stared at her in abject confusion.
Then she said, “Alex, Kara is the father.”
Alex looked at her for too long a moment.
“I’m sorry but what the fuck, Lena? What did you do?”
“What did I do?” Lena demanded. “It’s not my fault! I mean it is as much my fault as it is hers, but we weren’t worrying about protection the first morning and after that neither of us brought it up. I know, I’ve been stupid, I just…”
Alex’s mouth fell open.
“Protection? You and her? What the fuck?”
Lena took a long pull of cranberry juice and winced at the tartness.
“You didn’t know?”
“Know what?”
“Apparently, under a yellow sun, Kryptonians can, um, adapt to a sexual partner’s body.”
“Okay, okay, okay!” Alex snapped, “okay fine my little sister… with you… and you’re pregnant. Fine, we’re on the same page. What now?”
Lena stared at her, biting her lip as she sought answers.
“Are you going to keep it?”
“Keep it?” said Lena. “It’s Kara’s. Of course I will. That’s not even a question. I’m just… I’m scared, Alex. What does this mean? How is she going to react? What if… Jesus, I’m carrying a half-Kryptonian baby. Is that even safe?”
“It worked out fine for Lois and Clark. Twice. You’ll be okay, if having the baby is what you want.”
“It is,” said Lena. “Kara makes me deliriously happy, Alex. She was like a knight in shining armor that night and she was so kind and gentle the next morning and it’s like… like this was natural. We both fell into it so easily that it was like it had always been this way. I love her. I love her so much.”
Lena was red faced, looking embarrassed as she cast her eyes down. Alex reached across the table and took her hands.
“Well, I’m glad you dipshits figured it out. Watching you two blush and stammer at each other for another five years would’ve killed me.”
“ALEX!”
“If you want my blessing, you have it. I’m sorry I doubted you, but in my defense, I didn’t know she could… do… that.”
“Uh, right,” said Lena. “I want to call her and ask her to come over now so I can tell her. I know this should be a private moment but… can you stay? It just feels like you belong here for this.”
“Yeah, Lena. I’ll stay.”
Lena smiled.

Top 10 Females from my Fandoms
This is all my opinion. It’s also from the fandoms I’m in (which are pretty popular). Your opinion of course will be different from mine. But I like sharing what I think and I like hearing your opinion, too. Also we’re doing ladies first because why not. Also I’m not good at explaining my opinion. So without further ado, here’s my top 10 females. Spoilers!
10. Meg (Supernatural) Meg is definitely my favorite female character from Supernatural. She’s a villain turned anti-hero. Also a demon. And being a recurring demon in Supernatural is a quick way to earn a spot in my favorite characters list. Apologies for Ruby for not making the cut though. Anyway, Meg is tough as hell (no pun intended). She starts by working for her dad, but that’s she’s not working for her dad because she’s a daddy’s girl. She works for her dad so she can get this apocalypse started. Her real loyalties lay with Lucifer. So when Lucifer was sent back to hell, she became a lone wolf. Season 6-8 Meg is my favorite, when she’s a lone wolf against Crowley. And I think the Winchesters have always been a little intimidated by Meg. Only 5′6″ to their 7′ but still has got fire.
9. Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel (MCU) I couldn’t just leave out the first woman to ever get a solo movie in the MCU. It was a long time waiting, but we still got it. I was pondering for a while between Natasha and Carol. I decided to go with Carol really just because I’m so excited for Phase 4 of the MCU. I’m the kind of girl that looks ahead. Captain Marvel is for sure one of my favorite solo movies in the MCU. Carol was a air force pilot from the 90′s who was told all her life that she couldn’t become a pilot. Like you see in the trailer, she picks herself back up time after time. And then she loses her memory, but she doesn’t lose that fighting spirit. She just has superpowers from the space stone. She knows her rights and her wrongs better than most people. It’s what makes her an amazing superhero. And she literally destroyed a huge spaceship in Endgame. I can’t wait to see what Brie Larson has in store for us because she is not done for sure.
8. Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter) I know there’s a lot of controversy with the Harry Potter fandom right now, but I just can’t help but place Luna on this list. She’s an amazing character. As a fellow Ravenclaw, she really showed us what Ravenclaw was all about: wisdom and having an open mind. She knows her spells, too, and does her homework (I think). I think more people would expect Hermione on the list, but she didn’t resonate with me the way Luna did. She’s bullied for thinking differently, which really resonated with me. But she’s got her close friends and that’s all that really matters to her. She was the first character I saw myself in, even if she’s just thinks differently than I do.
7. Eleven (Stranger Things) I really did not want to put Eleven this low. But I really just couldn’t put her higher because the girls above her are just better. However, Eleven is awesome. Truly awesome. We gotta respect the only character in Stranger Things that has superpowers. Nothing holds Eleven down. She escapes from a crazy laboratory and finds her new friends who she will literally do anything to protect. And she was messed up in that lab. But she still knows good from evil. She knew that her friends were not going to screw her over. And when she thought they were going to screw her, she kinda just said no. Like okay. She’s brave and kind and badass and everything I want in a superhero. I she’s a little intimidated by the world around her, but I would have run right back to what I knew if I were her. I think her bravery really shone in the third season. I’m sad about what’s happening to her powers, but I think they’ll find a way to get them back. Even if they don’t, I think Eleven will still prove to be everything she is without them. And just look at her. She’s just so cute.
6. Hazel Levesque (Riordanverse) I told you this was my list and I think Hazel deserves a spot. I mean, the youngest person on the Argo II, daughter of Pluto, can control the Mist and all the jewels in the earth, and tamed an untameable immortal horse. What more do you want? Yes, yes. I love Annabeth, but I really resonated with Hazel more, mostly because she just seems sweeter than Annabeth. I’m a sweet and shy person. And I love horses. And the 40′s. Speaking of which, a POC in the 40′s in Louisiana? If I ever make a top 10 POC characters, we’ll brush up on that. Anyway, let’s talk about when she died. Did I mention she died? She gave up an eternity of happiness so her mother (who was not good to Hazel) wouldn’t have an eternity of misery. Gotta thank Nico, though, for bringing one of my faves back to life. But when Nico was in trouble, there was nothing that Hazel wouldn’t do to help her brother. And when Hazel learned how to control the Mist in couple of weeks? What a display of power. She’s had a hard life, but she’s come out stronger because of it.
5. Katniss Everdeen (Hunger Games) What? Why is Katniss so low? Mostly because it’s been a while since I’ve read the Hunger Games. I never even finished it. I stopped halfway through Mockingjay. I really like Katniss, though. She’s never had a lot. Let’s just start with the obvious that she takes on the Capital. Like you’re taking on the government? Okay go off. Of course, it’s not for no reason. They’re slaughtering everyone. But let’s just talk about when she’s in the Hunger Games the first time. I don’t think I could start to go into detail about everything that Katniss has done. She’s a badass in summary. She took on people that train for the event. She dropped a... what are they called? *googles hunger games bees* Tracker jackers! She dropped a nest full of tracker jackers on to those stuck-up kids. And Rue. Rue helped. Rue’s the best. She’s not on the list, but still. I love Rue and Katniss’ friendship, even if didn’t last. I’m sorry Rue you had to die if Katniss was to win. Anyway, Peeta got her in sort of a weird romance, but I think Katniss saved Peeta more times than Peeta saved Katniss. I love gender role reversals. Also I’m such a sucker for girls who can shoot a bow. So, yeah, Katniss gets her spot which is very well earned.
4. Vanya Hargreeves (The Umbrella Academy) The second season recently came out so she’s fresh in my mind. The most powerful sibling in the Academy uses sound to harness energy. And does she do it in style. Yeah, she kind of causes the apocalypse, but that’s not her fault. It’s Luther’s. And Reginald's. Vanya had a rough childhood. She was told all her life that she was ordinary in a house where there where only the extraordinary. But she powered through it. And wrote a book as revenge. Like Five said, that took guts. She’s such a complicated character. She’s shy and kind. But don’t make her mad. She might stab you. I really couldn’t believe how hard I cheered when she killed Harold. Like it was bad. Also she blew up the moon. Do you want more? She’s dating a farm frau. If I ever make a top 10 canon couples, that’s going on the list. You know, if you can’t go straight, go gay. Also she’s a human bomb. I’m a sucker for human bombs. And memes.
3. Morgana Pendragon (Merlin) I really love good girls turned bad. I was a little worried that Morgana was just going to be Merlin’s love interest in season 1. But man was I wrong. Going from a ward with bad dreams to a witch determined to be queen. I was actually kind of rooting for her. But that just could be because Katie is a phenomenal actress. But anyway, Morgana really has issues, which is why she’s top 3. Also the fact that she didn’t have a girlfriend, so disappointing. But she’s a villain, and villains don’t have lovers. Or they’re not supposed to in my book. Also she can go toe to toe with Merlin, who is supposed to be one of the best sorcerers of all time. What a show of power.
2. Regina Mills (Once Upon a Time) My favorite redemption arc. From good to evil and back to good. Honestly one of my favorite characters to watch. And Lana just does such a good job with it. Do you see the trend that I have with my favorite characters? Tragic background is the base requirement. Magical badass gives you an improvement in the list. But Regina has had a horrible life. The fact that she is classified as a villain is heartbreaking sometimes. But she did kill a ton of people so she’s definitely a villain in the storybooks. And that sass. Only Regina could pull off that sass. But I think the fact that she tries to be good when it is not in her nature, I think that speaks volumes.
1. Kara Danvers / Supergirl (Supergirl) I feel like people just got thrown for a loop. It’s like wait a minute. Didn’t you just say that your favorite kind of character is a “magical badass with a tragic background?” Um maybe. But Kara has her own tragedies. She just doesn’t show it. She lost her parents when she was 12. Not just her parents, but almost her whole family and all of her home. But she learned to have a new home on Earth. But she manages to figure out how to save the world with all of these conflicts in her life. Shoutout to Alex for being an awesome sister. And she has a great social life, something I aspire to have. I’m so upset that the show is ending after season 6. I love Kara so much. Kara is the most amazing woman in the Arrowverse so I’m so sorry to see her go.

Star Stuff by imfallingforyoureyes102 (2/2, 25 May 2019 ) - “The nitrogen in our DNA,” Felicity pauses, her eyes turned to the ceiling as if in thought, “the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood,” Oliver’s turns away from the window to face her, “The carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of star stuff. You are made of star stuff." Felicity’s face is wide open, just like she has always been with him, and for a second Oliver thinks – no, he believes, without a doubt, that if he is made of stars, Felicity is the sun. (Or, Walter Steele doesn't really know what to think of his stepson's budding relationship with his executive assistant - he doesn't want to think about what it means. But then he happens upon Oliver on the verge of falling into the darkest corners of his mind and watches as Felicity slowly and surely pulls him back to the light.) Part 5 of On the Outside Looking In
Oliver the //pseudo// Artist by Vixx2pointOh (6/6, 22 May 2019) - Despite Oliver's intentions to recreate the habitat of a sloth, his 13yo sister had somehow convinced him to drive her in the middle of the day to what seemed like a deserted high school. He ends up in an art class, where he gets more than he bargained for. Part 11 of Oliver The ...

The Microchip Chronicles by CSM (10/10, 20 May 2019) - Post 713. Follows the next nine months of Felicity’s pregnancy.
What was my daddy like? by melicitysmoak (8/8, 16 May 2019) - [Future Spec Fic, takes off from the Season 7 flashforwards, canon until 7x16 only]Mia Smoak grows up without ever knowing her father, Oliver Queen, also known as the Green Arrow. She loves her mother, Felicity Smoak, and secretly admires her, but their relationship is rocky. They get separated like before, but this time Mia is afraid that her mom is in real danger, so she sets off to find her. In an unexpected turn of events, she meets her half-brother William and his companions, who are also trying to unravel the mystery of Felicity's apparent demise and why the genius wife of the former Green Arrow brought them all together after almost two decades. Mia has been isolated for most of her young life, but the few relationships she makes helps her put together the puzzle pieces of what her father was like. It's up to her to decide what to make of it all.
The last time they're together by CaptainSammyAngel (2/2, 13 May 2019) - Oliver and Felicity are on borrowed time... the time to honor the deal with the monitor has come and this is how they spend their last night together. Part 4 of Mia's journey
Felicity Takes a Holiday by BstnStrg13 (25/25, 12 May 2019) - Frustrated by Oliver's apparent indifference, Felicity takes a solo trip to NYC where she meets with unexpected dangers. Other Ships/Characters
Starting Something by justafandomfollower (team-centric, 13/13, 23 May 2019) - Oliver Queen returns to Star City with the intent to right his father’s wrongs and stop the poison that has infiltrated his city. The Canary's Legacy by Bl4ckHunter (8/8, 22 May 2019) - Sara gets thrown into an alternate future as she copes with unsettling truth.
unexpectations by brandywine421 (Matt Murdock/Oliver, 2/2, 21 May 2019) - "Do I have to?" Matt asked, dragging his feet behind Foggy and Theo and their mom. Five years in, he should consider Anna his mom, but that would mean he had to consider Ed his dad and he already had a dad. "We paid for your PSATs so you have to suffer the consequences of your grade," Anna replied, entirely too cheerily. He didn't think that was totally fair but the mandatory soul-bond test for college applicants wasn't fair either. Apparently his grade meant he was going to go to college, but still - today sucked. "Aren't you excited to meet yours? I'm totally stoked to meet mine," Foggy beamed - Matt knew what 'beaming' sounded like, Foggy had been his best friend longer than he'd been his brother. Matt would never beam. *AU for everything ever. Matt & Oliver are reluctant soulmates - at first.
Karry Universe: Hunt for the Totems by KarryBeta; KarryMaster (Barry Allen/Kara Danvers, side pairing Alex Danvers/Sara, 16/16, 19 May 2019) - With someone after the totems its up to the Justice League to find them and to find the people destined to wear them. Part 9 of Karry Universe
Nightmare by molmcmahon (Harry Potter/Oliver, 6/6, 18 May 2019) - 5 Times Someone Finds Out about Harry and Oliver and 1 Time Someone Already Knew. Part 2 of Devil's Verse
Dear Friend, by Ray_Writes (Laurel/Oliver, 9/9, 16 May 2019) - When Felicity decides to get serious about Ray, she knows it won’t be a good idea for Oliver to be hanging around. So she turns to the world of online dating to keep him distracted. Unknown to the both of them, over the summer Joanna had set Laurel up with an online dating account in the hopes that her friend could move on from past failed relationships. There’s only one way this can end.
Secrets, Lies and Superheroes by laxit21 (Bucky Barnes/Felicity, 90/90, 12 May 2019) - Being a vigilante (or on the team of one) is complicated enough. When Oliver, Felicity and Diggle rescue Lyla from a Russian gulag, Felicity’s life gets even more complicated. Months later, after the fall of SHIELD, one of those complications comes knocking on her door. You can find me on Tumblr at: laxit21.tumblr.com
Selling Your Reason (Will Not Bring You Through) by backinthebox (Nyssa/Sara, 4/4, 12 May 2019) - "I heard you disbanded the League." "My father's League had been tainted, so yes." Nyssa allowed, even if she held back the question of who had informed Sara, since information on her well-being was apparently not among the things Oliver Queen and his ilk were sharing with Sara. Instead she returned, "I heard you've been busy saving the world." Part 2 of Holy Water Cannot Help You Now
High School and Heroes by violetwolfraven (Dinah Drake/Laurel, 2/2, 12 May 2019) - In a High School AU, Dinah Drake develops a crush on the new nerdy girl, Laurel. Navigating their friends’ disfunctional romances and school life in general, there is a lot of drama.

AO3 It was never actively talked about. In fact, it was an aspect of Lena’s life that she prefered to keep to herself, not because she was ashamed of it or anything. It was more the idea that if the world found out that Lena volunteered at a children’s hospital, it would seem like she was attempting to buy public opinion of herself. That, and she honestly just wanted one thing, one damn thing where no one judged her.
She always dressed down for her visits, jeans and a graphic tee, something nerdy that she’d never be caught dead in at L-Corp. The kids loved it, always asking about the characters on her shirts, Batman and Supergirl were the crowd favourites. Kara would get a kick out of it, she was honestly waiting for Kara to catch her out and give her those adorable puppy eyes that somehow became apparent when Lena did something unexpected.
It was Lena’s regular thursday visit, not much was different. The common room was decked out in red and blue, classic Super colours. She chuckled and snapped a photo, making sure to get her supergirl tee in the frame, and reminding herself to send it to Kara the next day.
Lena was ripped from her musings by a solid thump and two skinny arms wrapping around her thigh.
“Miss Lena!”
Lena knelt down, bringing herself face to face with the little girl who was dressed in an oversized Supergirl costume, with a Batman beanie covering her head. “Happy birthday, Elphie!”
The little girl grinned, her oxygen tubes cutting into her cheeks, “We’re having a Supergirl party! Miss Amy made cupcakes! And Doctor Mercer got a cake, but I can’t see it til later when Mom and Dad get here with Kelly.”
Lena smiled and tugged on Elphie’s beanie, “I just need to check in with Doctor Mercer, Okay? I’ll be right back.” Elphie nodded, her tiny chest heaving as she succumbed to a fit of coughs, “You go sit down, baby girl. I have a very special surprise for you a bit later okay?”
Lena lifted Elphie up, careful of the ports she knew were hidden under the costume, and sat her on the wheelchair that Elphie had been sitting in when Lena had arrived.
Doctor Mercer was speaking quietly to Elphie’s parents when Lena made her way over. Mr and Mrs Fitzgerald smiled warmly at Lena, clearly still processing some sort of news regarding Elphie’s treatments. She stood back, giving them the space if they needed it, but was pleasantly surprised when Jane waved her over as Doctor Mercer waved, and walked away to answer the phone. “Lena, thank you so much for organising this for Elphie.”
Lena shrugged, “It’s no problem Jane. If Elphie needs to be in this place for her birthday, we’d best make the most of it.” Lena nodded, glancing over at Elphie, who was rushing around the room in her little chair, attempting to manoeuvre herself away from Garreth, a little guy from the burns ward, who was dressed as Superman. “Jane?”
Jane looked over at Lena, who was still watching the scene in front of her. “Yes?”
Lena smiled brightly, and looked back at the Fitzgeralds, “What would you say if I could maybe make today a little more special?”
Eddie put a hand on Lena’s shoulder, “Lena, you’ve already done so much…”
“But what if I could get… say… Supergirl to make an appearance?”
Jane chuckled, “I tried so hard to get someone to dress up, but there was no…”
Lena raised an eyebrow, “You thought I meant an imitation..?”
Eddie glanced back at Lena, “You didn’t?”
“I can guarantee you that even the best imitator is nowhere near as amazing as the girl of steel herself… If you’re not comfortable with the idea…”
Jane shook her head, “Is this something you could do..? I just… Elphie idolises her…”
Lena grinned, “Give me a few minutes, maybe check that it’s okay with Doctor Mercer as well.”
Eddie nodded and left the common room, presumably to find Doctor Mercer. Lena picked up her phone, Kara would easily be able to contact Supergirl at this time of the day. Still, she was careful to shield Kara’s name from Jane.
“Lena? Hey!”
“Hey, I have a favour to ask? I can understand if you’re busy with an article…”
Kara laughed, “It’s a slow night. What are you up to?”
“I’m at the hospital...:”
“What? Are you okay…?”
“Kara… I’m fine,” Lena laughed, as Elphie screamed, “Miss Lena! Batman stole my comic!”
“Miss… Lena, what are you doing…?” Lena could hear the grin in Kara’s voice, knowing that Elphie’s voice drifted through the phone.
“I’m at the children’s ward. I volunteer here on three mornings a week. It’s one of the kids birthday and she’s a bit of a Supergirl fan…”
“Oh, this is a Super favour?”
“Only if she’s not busy…?”
“I’ll text her. She can be there in five minutes.”
Lena laughed and thanked Kara, hanging up the phone and sending a thumbs up in Jane’s direction. “She’s five minutes away.”
Jane smiled, “So, Miss Lena, how do you know our resident superhero? I’ve heard you and Elphie talking about her, and now that I know you’ve got her number on speed dial…” Jane laughed at the frown on Lena’s face, “Lena, I was a federal agent before the girls were born. It’s my job to know things. And you, miss Luthor, have kept your voluntary commitments very quiet…”
Lena rolled her eyes, “I don’t do this for the recognition, Jane… and as for how we’re acquainted… that’s complicated.”
“Like… Dating her secret identity, complicated…?”
Lena flushed. Dating her…? Lena had honestly never thought about Supergirl’s secret identity. “I mean, no matter what you read in the tabloids, I am definitely not dating anyone currently. As for her identity… I am still in the dark about that one? Which agency did you work for?”
Jane smirked, “Classified.”
Lena felt a breeze brush her hair. “Good afternoon, Supes…”
“Lena…” Lena watched Supergirl’s eyes widen at the sight of the tight shirt with the crest across the chest. “You… look different.”
“Well, different keeps me hidden from the press, so…”
Supergirl rolled her eyes and held her hand out to Jane, “Agent Fitzgerald...”
“Supergirl!?”
Lena grinned over at Elphie, who was halfway out of her wheelchair. “That’s Elphie, this is her birthday party.”
The party drew to a close at around 7, when Elphie started yawning and clinging to the stuffed bear that Lena had given her a few months before. “Mom, can Miss Lena and Supergirl read me a bedtime story?”
Jane nodded and wrapped her arms around Elphie, “Honey, Daddy and I will be back tomorrow morning okay. We’re gonna talk to Doctor Mercer about you coming home next week.”
Elphie grinned, “Really?”
“Yeah baby. Lena, is that okay?”
Lena smiled, “It’s no problem, maybe Supergirl and I can tell Elphie about some of our adventures?”
Elphie cheered tiredly as Supergirl easily lifted her up into her arms, “Lead the way, Elphie!”
It had been almost a month since Elphie’s birthday, and Kara had asked to tag along to her hospital visits after hearing about her mornings, presumably from their mutual friend. Lena had readily agreed, running it past the volunteer co-ordinator, that same afternoon.
Their first morning together, a Saturday, it was a dreary morning in National City, so Lena had organised a few of her interns to assist with a makeshift robotics lab in the common room. Kara had been almost as excited as Lena about it, reading through Lena’s notes and instructional sheets, and excitedly mentioning her first grade science fair project.
Kara Danvers was a closet science nerd.
They’d set the desks up and distributed the little bags of wires and circuitry that they’d put together the night before.
“It can get loud,” Lena said, as they waited for the kids to start trickling in after their morning visits. “They get excited easily.”
Kara chuckled, “I think I can handle a few kids Lena…” Kara’s sentence was cut off as a small, familiar body slammed into her side, “Hey Elphie!”
Lena froze, watching the two interact. It didn’t take long before the situation dawned on her. Kara Danvers was the worst liar ever, and Lena was an idiot. She arched an eyebrow at Kara, who looked up and finally clicked, “Ah… Any chance you can forget this little slip up?”
Surprisingly enough, that initial twinge of hurt that surfaced was quickly replaced with a surge of affection for the dork in front of her. There was no way that her best friend hid this secret for anything less than noble reasons.
“I’m not sure that that’s a thing I can do, Miss Danvers…” she held her arms open for Elphie, who quickly filled them.
“Miss Lena!”
Lena kneeled down and tugged Elphie’s beanie down, “You wanna build a remote car?”
“Can Supergirl help?”
Lena looked up at Kara, who was nervously biting her lip, “I don’t know, you’ll have to ask her. But I think we’ll have to stick with the soldering irons today. Her heat vision is a little too strong for little wires.”
Kara had the decency to look sheepish, remembering the fried circuits of Lena’s alien detection device. “For the record, I’m not sorry about that.”
Lena rolled her eyes as a wave of children came rushing through the door, “Good morning everyone!”
Kara smiled at them as they all took their seats around the room, listening to the few giggles and whispers from around the room, regarding Kara’s identity.
“I understand you’re all excited about our visitor today. This is Kara, a very good friend of mine…”
“It’s Supergirl in a ugly sweater,” one of the younger boys said, crossing his arms across his chest. There were several kids following his stance, nodding along in agreement.
“Uh… Actually… Supergirl is… she was busy…”
“Doing actual superhero work for a change,” Lena finished, cutting of Kara’s rambling.
The boy rolled his eyes, “Are all your excuses as terrible as your disguise, Kara?”
Lena had to admit, Caleb had a point. It wasn’t her fault that she laughed, this situation was hilarious. Supergirl had been outed by a group of six to nine year olds.
“Lena, you’re not helping,” Kara sighed.
“I’m sorry… I can’t believe I didn’t realise.”
Kara shook her head, “We’ll talk about this later. Can we science now please?”
Lena nodded, her laughter dying down, “Alright gremlins, I understand this is exciting, but Miss Kara’s name is a very big secret. I’m trusting that you can all understand that.”
“We’re kids, Miss Lena. Who’s gonna believe us? Supergirl wears grandma pants on her days off…”
“Caleb, enough…” Kara couldn’t blame Lena for laughing at him.
That was why her disguise was so effective. Glasses and pastel on the Girl of Steel? Who would believe that?

So what I am doing right now is essentially elaborate fanfiction. Season 2 of Supergirl was written extremely clumsily; it had a few great ideas that didn’t get explored enough and a few horrible ideas that got explored too much. The trailer and recent announcements that Mon-El will return really don't inspire much confidence and I am not even sure I will continue watching if things will proceed as poorly as I fear they will.
We reached the point that I am convinced a fanfic writer can do better, and so a fanfic writer shall.
To further handicap myself, I won't retcon the established plans. Reign is still gonna show up, Maggie is still there but is getting even less screentime, Supercorp and Karolsen are still not happening, Kat gets to be in 4 episodes tops and Alex's dad is still out in the woods somewhere. Okay? Okay. Let's get started.
So let’s make like the Supergirl staff and put Mon-El first. Short version: no, Mon-El isn’t in this season. If it were up to me, we’d be done with his character the moment season 2 ended. His arc was done. He serves no further purpose other than distracting attention away from Kara. Any capable writer would at least give Kara time to mourn and/or develop before even hinting at bringing him back, otherwise what was the point? So, Mon-El is benched for at least 1 season. I’d bring him back for the season dealing with Kara’s clone (whenever that may be) because there he may actually add to the plot. If however we are contractually obliged to keep him in the CWniverse, I would have him recruited by the Legends of Tomorrow. This would be a chance for him to further explore what it means to be a hero, give him a chance to show us what he's like without Kara's infinite patience/support and actually place him in the position of the moral compass for a change. That could actually be fun. Show us what season 2 kept telling us and actually let him show that he is a hero now. Get Steel out, get Valor in. They basically have the same powerset anyway. Instead of history expert Nate, they now get alien expert Mon-El.
Now let’s discuss Kara’s arc; 5 words that were never spoken by the writing staff of season 2. Now Kara is understandably a little lost after the events of season 2. She's upset, she feels alone, she barely shows up to work at all. Of course, she insists she is fine, but she doesn't conceal her emotions very well. We get glimpses of her Scooby Gang visiting her, trying to cheer her up. We get Winn, Lyra and James visiting her, trying to take her mind off of things by explaining monopoly to Lyra. Lena calls her, very blatantly hinting at an invention that could easily make the frontpage of Catco magazine. She is genuinely surprised to be visisted by Snapper instead. Eliza visits, J'ohn visits, even Maggie and M'Gann visit, but no one really gets through to her. Finally, we get a very emotional couch scene with Alex, who tells Kara to grieve for as long as she needs. It’s not strange, no one thinks less of her for it, she has every right to take some time to heal.
But this is a superhero jam, so things needs to go down and we get the first appearance of Reign. She just crash-landed on earth and is lashing out, laying waste to an entire city. J'ohn tries to go at it alone with M'Gann, but it is swiftly made clear that they lack the firepower. Kara is called into action and when Alex explains that J'ohn is in danger, she leaps right out the window. Reign, being made by a Zor-El, ceases her violence against the martians when she sees Supergirl appear and recognizes her crest. The two begin their fight, while Reign demands to know why she was made. A question Kara can't answer. Mirroring Man of Steel, we see some large scale destruction going on. Kara saves who she can, but it only results in her further getting pummeled. Reign being one of the big bads this seasons beats the snot out of Kara, but because of a timely intervention of Alex, Kara manages to wound her enough to force a retreat, ending the first episode.
The second episode we find Kara in civilian clothes at the DEO. The news shows Supergirl fighting Reign and blaming her for yet another alien that attacks humanity to get to her. Kara tries to shrug it off, but is put on the same story by Snapper. "The Daxamites were looking for her specifically, this grey woman is after her as well. Grrrr endangering the public grrrrr." Kara tries to defend herself, but Snapper explains that objectively, we are 2-for-2 in hostile alien invasions seemingly caused by Supergirl. To make matters worse, Livewire has been spotted in National City again, and seems to be calling out Supergirl specifically to get under her skin. Livewire goads her, taunts her and seems to have gotten significantly more powerful. Finally, she goes for the cheap shots and mentions 'that cute sidekick that used to hang out with her.' and asks if he kicked the bucket so soon, laughing at his incompetence. Kara loses it and Winn depowers Livewire through science magic and James’s help. Even beaten to near death, Livewire continues taunting Supergirl, finally daring 'the girlscout' to kill her already. Kara seriously charges her eyes, and screams in anger, about to kill a person, but Alex talks her out of it. Livewire is put into DEO custody by a trembling Kara, who begins breaking shit in a rage the moment she is out of sight. She tries to explain her frustration, but breaks down crying and is hugged by Maggie and Alex in an attempt to calm down.
We end episode 2 with a red streak in space, getting closer to earth, zooming in on the US, zooming in further to National City, zooming in further and further until it reaches Kara's appartment and crashes down. 'Kara Zor-El of Earth. You have great rage within you. You have been chosen to join the Red Lantern Corpse."
That's right, this season will essentially be Supergirl's Venom arc. Different logistics, same core deal. This may not be the most original course of action, but I see some major benefits. We get to explore Kara, her emotions and relations to the other characters, it puts the agency back with her, opens up a realm of new story possibilities and space shit gives J’ohn something to do besides barking orders and fumbling his relation with M’Gann. Melissa Benoist is a good Supergirl and definitely not a bad actress. Giving her the chance to express more anger and extreme emotion in her character would make for a fun performance. Finally, it gives her a costume change (because come on, third season without a new outfit?). It's not a permanent change because duh, Venom arc. The ultimate enemy this season will be both Reign and Kara's own self-destructive rage/grief. She’ll return to her classic outfit for the finale, having learned to healthily deal with her anger. Of course, the Red Lantern lore needs to be changed a bit to make it fit, but that's nothing CW isn't used to. Chances of a CW Green Lantern are pretty low and no one else is using it, so let’s go nuts with it.
Kat Grant, during the first episodes of the second half of the season will be the one to talk some sense into Kara. “Supergirl is a symbol of hope, not this little ball of insecure rage she’s pretending to be now. I swear, it’s that red kryptonite episode of hers all over again, minus the sex-appeal”. “Of course she’s angry Kiera. Everyone gets angry. Ghandi got angry, but we don’t let that anger define us.”
So, Kara decides to try and take the ring off, but a part of the red lantern lore we’re not changing is that this is impossible without aid of a blue lantern. Still, Kara very consciously tries to keep her anger in check from here on out, but ends up killing a man by flipping out in rage near the end of the season. I suggest bringing back Maxwell Lord to close off that chapter and because my self-indulgent ass deserves something nice. By the end of the season Kara manages to take the ring off and defeat Reign in her classic outfit, as is the standard for Venom arcs. To take the ring off, she will need the help of temporary Blue Lantern Alex, James, M’Gann or Lena. All 4 of them inspire/experience great hope in one capacity or another. Green might be a better fit, but you know, story purposes.
When bringing peace to Kara, both red and blue rings get rejected by their owners and the season finale can commence. My inner supercorp shipper says Lena has to be the blue lantern. Bringing her in contact with Saint Walker would be a fun exploration of her relation with aliens, but I really want the series to continue exploring the relationship between the Danvers sisters. Speaking of which…..
Alex needs to close her daddy issues arc and she needs to close it fast. What started out as a fairly interesting subplot has lost all pace, agency and consistency. Homecoming was one of the most embarrassing episodes of season two and the sooner we’re done with the Jeremiah arc, the better. So here’s what’s gonna happen. Seeing Supergirl get reckless and more aggressive sends CADMUS into panic mode, because ‘omg, evil kryptonian waiting to happen’ and they task Jeremiah with one last job. He agrees, but demands to do it *his* way. Cut to the next scene/episode and dad Danvers surrenders himself to the DEO. Obviously, no one trusts him and J’ohn is determined to keep him under constant surveillance. Alex and Kara hear about it immediately and they try to talk about their grievances, but Jeremiah is shady af. He explains seeing Kara as a red lantern concerned him, but we’re still in the early parts of her arc at this point; she is convinced she got it under control and is stronger than ever. Meanwhile, he sees the dangers of a kryptonian going mad with rage. He tries to convince Alex to see it his way, but after his last stunt in season 2, she remains supportive of Kara. In CADMUS’s attempt to retrieve him and Jeremiah’s inevitable double cross, Jeremiah dies while taking down Hank Hanshaw. It A) makes his sacrifice worth something and B) rid us of Hank Hanshaw. I’m sorry but he doesn’t work as Cyborg Superman, getting rid of him is a kindness. Unfortunately, a sample of Kara’s DNA was delivered to Lilian Luthor for project Galatea, leading into the Power Girl arc in one of the following seasons. Important! Alex, Kara and Eliza get a chance to mourn. Give us a few scenes, a few establishing shots, showing that Jeremiah’s death is acknowledged by the characters. Show how Eliza reacts to the sudden closure of their tragic relationship. I know, duh, but I feel like it should be mentioned because as established; I don’t trust the Supergirl writers. Also, it is kind of a theme this season. Alex’s engagement and probable marriage to Maggie this season may have to be the B-plot for her. Considering Maggie is getting less screentime, this’ll give us some scenes where she can support her gf with her plot, while the two are fantasizing about and planning their wedding. A season-spanning plotline for Maggie would be fun, but is unlikely to occur and even less likely to be handled well. Going by the promo, I suggest turning the plot upside down and allow Maggie to cut her homophobic father out of her life entirely because she is a grown woman and doesn’t need that toxic influence in her life. If the SG writers think of that themselves, kudos. If she has to be the bigger person and forgive her homophobic relative just because he’s a relative, my eyes might pop out of my skull from rolling too much.
I am honestly not sure what game the writers are playing with Reign and Lena. It is actually the only plot for season 3 I am sincerely interested in seeing play out, along with the Sanvers scenes. Allegedly Lena and Reign are linked somehow and I sincerely hope we’re not getting a distant siblings/lena is half alien reveal. Because that’s stupid. And really dumb. And stupid. Instead, I suggest making her what Mon-El should have been; a reflection of Supergirl. Reign/Sam becomes what would have happened if Kara had not been raised by the Danvers and used her powers for selfish ends. She isn’t even looking to conquer. She just wants answers about her existence and live in the comfort she feels she deserves, but goes about her quest with no regard for human life or decency leaving a trail of destruction in her wake. Unintentionally however, she becomes entangled with Lena Luthor and the two become good friends. As Sam, she becomes Lena’s secretary, sadly dropping fan favorite Jess but furthering her parallels with Kara. Meanwhile Lena helps her find out about what she’s made for as bessie mates. Sam will try to physically destroy Lena’s enemy for the season and Lena will have to play moral compass. ‘I’ll kill everyone in this room.’ ‘Sam no.’ ‘Sam yes!’ This will cause some fun tension between Sam and Kara too, as they can only shoot each other nasty looks when Lena is in the room. Reign being a CW villain probably isn’t going to survive the season finale, which is a shame cause they could really use another recurring villain. Considering CW has been trying to paint Lena as a potential villain since the beginning of season 2 however, this is as good a time as any to do it. Supergirl won’t deal the killing blow to Reign but Lena, primed by Lilian, will blame her nonetheless. Bonuspoints if she discovers her identity in the process, reducing her friends list from 4 to 0 in one bad day.
So those are the main plotlines I’d lay out for Supergirl season 3, connected by a theme of dealing with grief. Kara learns that it’s okay to be angry in her grief but to not let it consume her. Alex mourns the death of their dad in a pretty healthy way, surrounded by friends and family, though perhaps feels a little guilty for being so glad with getting closure and her upcoming wedding. Lena deals with the death of Sam in an unhealthy manner, tries to push Kara away and might go down the path of an anti-hero next season.
I know this is just elaborate fanfiction. Of course I do, I said so at the beginning of this thing. But, I felt it necessary to make a point. Season 2 was an awkward, clumsily assembled mess and even folks with only a passing interest in storytelling could have done better. I am not excluding the possibility that the Supergirl writers/producers will surprise me next season, but if they continue the trends set by season 2, I will probably drop the show by episode 5.
I mean, I can always watch the Sanvers and Reign/Lena scenes on youtube later.

SUPERGIRL RANT TIME 2
CHECK OUT MY FICS ON A03 AND FANFICTION...
wr8tur on A03
tvwr8tur on FF
There’s something that doesn’t make sense with me. If it’s the more the merrier on Daxam, that implies that monogamy wasn’t the mainstream relationship standard.
If that was the case, then why did Mon get so jealous? I would think he’d be more adept in handling these types of situation. Or does that rule only apply to men who want to be with a multitude of women/men? Because I don’t think he asked Kara whether or not she was interested with Mxy. He just assumed that Kara only wanted him and that Kara was his.
Perhaps the writers should have written “On Daxam it’s whatever floats your boat.” rather than “The more the merrier.”
And onward to rant time….
I really feel like I was right during my first rant. Mon is selfish and self-serving and really the only reason he’s masking, because clearly he’s not changing, his true self is because he wants Kara.
He clearly is petulant and narcissistic. He made Jeremiah’s return all about him, disregarded Kara’s requests, and yes he was right but his drive to prove that Jeremiah was working for Cadmus stemmed from the fact that he wanted to show Kara that she was wrong. He wants to prove to Kara that she does need him.
I don’t even really think it makes sense that Mon would be so suspicious, character wise. Unless of course if you count that comment about his dad then that just means he’s practicing transference.
Which basically proves he’s making it about himself since he’s talking about his own daddy issues.
And the way Kara just forgives him after every thing? I mean I know he was right this time but he still went about things the wrong way! God, I thought Supergirl was supposed to be smart but it seems like she’s all muscle and no brain. Why does she constantly forgive him? All because she needs a hug from someone she can’t possibly break?
Dear girl, have some taste!
Carry around some low grade Kryptonite for cases where you need to not worry about crushing someone you want to hold rather than settling for the next indestructible body.
And seriously? Two months is all it took for DEO to let him shadow Supergirl as Kara freaking Danvers? And he’s complaining about that? I mean come on, they knew nothing about him and he didn’t know Earth’s customs so obviously they need to keep an eye and make sure he knows laws and things like that. Still though, two months only? That’s such bull! Everyone but Lena and Snapper knows that Kara is Supergirl like what the hell? Mon wasn’t even trying to be a hero when he came in! Yet Kara let him shadow her at CatCo from the beginning?!?!?!?!
I hope he does betray her because she seriously needs to stop being so trusting, especially when people have done nothing to earn her trust.
Unlike Lena, who saved the alien population of National City!
All Mon El did was land in a freaking pod and come from Daxam and bam, we’re all just supposed to feel sorry for him? They already made us feel like that with Kara and Kal.
And honestly, I’m tired of all these people trying to be Supergirl’s equal.
This show is about Supergirl yet we have Mon-El getting more screen time and character development than Alex and Kara.
He even asked Winn what’s left for him?
How much more self-centered can he be?
I feel like the episode could have gone better if Kara had been the one to notice that Jeremiah was being shifty rather than Mon-El. That way it could have really brought more attention to the sisters and their dynamic. Rather than Alex thinking it’s because Kara wants to stand by her man, Alex could have thought Kara was jealous that she finally has things that Kara wants, a complete family and a loving supportive and understanding partner, maybe even bring up the fact that Kara doesn’t really know Jeremiah since they only spent a year together, and the tension could extend to the next episode rather than “oh Mon-El is no longer a frat boy dudebro and he’s so intuitive” drivel that they’re trying to push.
If they had gone that route and Mon stood by Kara, helped Kara when no one else would, I would have actually grown to respect him.
Also, it’s a perfect opportunity to show, rather than yell, that Kara doesn’t need protection, what she needs is emotional support. Because we are more than a half a season in and Kara still has to yell at everyone and remind them of this.
Another instance of repetitive writing.
KaraMel just really makes me sad. Their whole dynamic just seems to be Mon screwing up and Kara forgiving him and it’s quite tiring to watch Mon and Kara make the same mistake over and over again. I understand why there are those who call this relationship abusive.
It’s extremely offensive to the characters and the audience.
Mon could have had a lot of potential if the writing hadn’t made him so unlikeable. I think what’s missing in his character, the one thing the writers must have forgotten to include, is the ability to support his actions.
Because he’s seen what Kara can do, seen what relationships are like on Earth, learned enough of the customs and behavior to stop comparing and know the differences between Earth and Daxam, yet he still behaves like he’s still on Daxam and acts like a child when he doesn’t get his way. He still demeans and disrespects Kara, often treating her like she doesn’t know the ways of the world when it’s he who doesn’t know how to function outside of Daxam’s apparently harsh environment.
He can’t back up his mistakes by using the “I’m from a different planet card” every time he makes an error anymore because that’s basically what’s been done since the beginning of the season. Now it just feels like he’s choosing to make the wrong move because he knows he’ll be forgiven for it in the end.
And yes, he was right about Jeremiah but he still went about things the wrong way. I know he tried to talk to Kara and she dismissed him. The next move he should have made was gather proof and show it to Kara rather than calling Jeremiah out in front of his entire freaking family. He only went to Winn because he was angry that Kara kicked him out. Which I don’t blame her because come on! She asked you to come to the party in peace, not raise hell.
All brawn and no brain, maybe they do deserve each other after all?
Maybe I would be more likely to forgive him for his mistakes if the writers had given him a quality that makes him stand out, one that isn’t solely tied to wanting to be with Kara. Or it could have worked if he didn’t keep verbally degrading her entire being whenever they have a disagreement.
If you like a girl for who she is, deem her fit enough for you to try and adapt to her likes and dislikes, then why would you debase her character? Does he only like that she’s strong willed with everyone else but when it concerns him she’s supposed to be some meek and docile lamb? Or is he seeking to shape Kara into a woman worthy of his affections?
We all love rebellious badasses but Mon isn’t that guy.
Alex is a badass, Maggie a super sleuth, Winn an adorkable guy, James was the ideal man before he became Batman wannabe, J’onn the brooding tragic type, Kara the hopeful heroine, Lena the determined dark horse.
I say Lena’s a dark horse because all we really knew about her in the beginning was that she’s a Luthor and she’s the underdog because yes she’s a billionaire CEO but people are out to topple her regime at L Corp, plus there’s the whole will she succeed even though she may or may not be evil thing, hence dark horse.
I think maybe he could have been the reluctant hero, but then they fudged that up once they gave him the drive to want to bone Kara.
Like I said, if they had shelved the romance with Kara until later in the series, possibly half way through next season, then he’d be the reluctant hero because his motivation to change would have been altruistic.
Perhaps they intend to make him the antihero, seeing as his desire to be a hero is because he wants to be with Kara.
If that’s the intention then I reiterate my point that they should have written him as a badass take no prisoners kind of guy rather than a whiny arrogant douche who constantly needs to apologize when he’s wrong in order to be forgiven.
Antiheroes work because most don’t need to apologize let alone explain themselves. They’re unapologetic and often have a compelling background story that makes us sympathize and care about them. I don’t know about everyone else, but I cannot sympathize with Mon because I feel like he knows enough, has been educated enough, to learn from his mistakes so he will not commit them again.
Yet he still doesn’t listen to Kara, putting his needs and desires before hers.
Antiheroes are supposed to have at least one redeeming quality but Mon doesn’t seem to have that.
I can’t say he means well because all he really means is to prove himself be the better individual. There were instances in the beginning that made it seem like he could be the reluctant hero, him punching that guy at Lena’s gala. But that’s all overshadowed by the fact that he wants Kara. Also it doesn’t work because we know he isn’t an admirable character, reiterating my point that he doesn’t have the strength to back up his actions and his beliefs. The audience is just supposed to excuse his behavior because he’s new to the planet.
But like I said, he’s been on Earth for more than six months, you’d think he’d know by now to listen to Kara?
And also, there are apparently those that believe their relationship is a realistic portrayal of how imperfect couples fight yet manage to forgive one another at the end of the day.
It doesn’t translate like that because he attacks Kara out of petulance and a need to be right and superior. Their arguments happen mostly because he doesn’t have faith in Kara or trust in Kara’s abilities. He thinks he’s right, forces the issue because he feels Kara should agree with him, debases Kara when she does not.
None of their arguments stem from a romantic standpoint! They are all about Mon-El and his desire to claim, overpower, and subjugate Kara.
Maybe that’s just how they love someone on Daxam but it’s clear that isn’t the love that Kara wants or deserves and I can’t care about him when he keeps trying to shove his antiquated ideologies down Kara’s and the audience’s throat.
There’s nothing wrong with having beliefs as long as you don’t impose them on others.
Jeez…
I know SuperCorp won’t ever happen but at least give Kara someone who deserves her, not some entitled brat.
Give Kara someone who will stand by her, occasionally question her beliefs and capabilities, but never disregards her desires and cheapens her entire character just because they wish to put themselves first.
And I read somewhere that this season, fans seem to be focusing on relationships too much and it’s created a divide. There are Karamel shippers, Sanvers shippers, and Supercorp shippers but no one’s shipping Supergirl anymore.
But if you really think about it, Kara no longer has a divide between her and Supergirl because practically everyone knows who she is. Besides there’s never been a clear separation between their identities because she’s the same hopeful trusting kindhearted and just figure as Kara as she is when she’s Supergirl. Perhaps the only real difference is the slight confidence boost.
So by Kara choosing to be in a relationship with Mon she’s making the choice for Supergirl as well. Especially since they work together.
I feel like Kara’s relationship and Supergirl’s relationship is not entirely separate from one another and that makes me even more upset. For me, the reason why I’m so invested with each of the relationships is because I’m searching for proper representation and character arcs for everyone on the show.
There are so many who could look up to Supergirl but instead they’re forced to see a grown woman acting like a prepubescent teenager.
And I understand that love can totally blindside someone, render them stupid really. But in what’s supposed to be a groundbreaking show about female empowerment do we really need to see or heroine be with someone who wants to change her? Someone who’s so quick to fault her? Someone who treats her like she’s incapable of taking care of herself? Someone who doesn’t instantly accept her? Someone she has to fight for approval?
This constant dynamic is really shameful for Kara/Supergirl’s character. It makes it seem like their entire relationship is based on the fact that they’re both trying to change each other, which isn’t healthy for either of them.
Kara seems like she’s staying because she thinks he can be better as opposed to being with him because of who he is now.
Which reinforces the belief that she only likes what he could be and that she’s putting up with all of it because she believes he will eventually turn into the man who can stand by her side. I say that’s so backward and merely enforces negative beliefs that if you wait long enough the frog will turn into the prince/princess because it’s promoting that type of mentality for young impressionable minds that watch the show.
Already I’ve seen so many people make excuses for Mon and it just reminds me of real relationships I’ve encountered where women/men lie to themselves about their partner, convince themselves that they only have to wait, that he/she will change. That they will appreciate them more. That they won’t do it again. Those are the words I’ve heard, not just on television, but in actual reality and seeing Supergirl and Kara think and feel in the same manner just breaks my heart. That’s what I mean about proper representation.
Feel free to respond and offer counterpoints. I love a good and healthy debate.
BTW….
NOOOO!!! I just found out Lena’s old flame is a dude! I’m going to cry. I love the guy in IZombie but Lena’s straight?! I feel like they’re just doing this to get people to shut up about SuperCorp. Why is there such a desire to include romance in this show?
At this point James is the only one who doesn’t have a love interest… or does he because he’s in love with being the Guardian?
RANT DONE!
