Lena knew her pulse was racing, but Kara was either pretending not to notice or too tired to care. They were curled together tightly under the blanket, Kara’s head resting on Lena’s chest, the pair of them curled into each other with a desperate intensity.
An outside observer would see no difference between the way that Nia was tucked and folded neatly into Brainy, his head lolling against hers as they slept on the other side of the couch. Nor would they see any discrepancy between the way Kelly and Alex were stuffed together in the armchair next to it, curled up in one another like a pair of cats tucked in against a cold night.
The outside observer would see three couples who’d begun with a game night and progressed to an unplanned movie marathon and started to crash out and fall asleep, full of wine and mirth and too tired to get home.
One couple wasn’t. One of these pairings was just friends, and the knowledge of it was like a ragged gaping hole in her chest, where something had crushed and torn through her and left a gap that would never be filled.
Lena was terrified.
Alex and Kelly were married now. Nia and Querl were getting very serious. They were going to start building lives.
Kara’s coming out had gone well. She was truly growing into herself in a way that frightened Lena as much as it warmed her heart. The Girl was growing to equal the Super, Kara becoming more and more herself even without the crutch that her suit provided. She was uninhibited, free.
In her secret heart, Lena hated it. In the end, Kara had been right, damn her. The Secret had meant something. They once had a space that was uniquely theirs, where Kara was a person only Lena knew, that not even Alex ever experienced. Yes, the Secret frequently intruded, but in those moments where it hadn’t, where their mutual pining to be normal met and they used it to build a space all their own, the real Kara came out.
That space had been shattered by their falling out but rebuilt stronger, its foundations laid the day that Kara came home from the hell outside the multiverse, the first brick laid when Kara had leaned in as Lena broke their hug and stared at Lena’s lips.
God damn me, Lena thought, why didn’t I make the move? Why didn’t I do it?
The moment was lost.
She looked down at Kara now, purring away on her chest. Kara had begun embracing her alien self, slowly stripping away all the ablative secrets that she’d layered onto herself to pass for human. Lena was delighted to discover that Kara could do that; that if she relaxed it would happen on its own. It made Lena contented and sleepy, especially when they were close in like this.
God, she was so beautiful. Lena had never laid eyes on Kara’s equal and never would, and when she walked tall and smiled and flashed her easy, invulnerable confidence, the sight of her was almost unbearable. Looking at Kara left marks on Lena’s heart the way that looking at the sun left burnt streaks in her vision.
Fear, cold and merciless, clenched in her chest. One day it would happen. Someone would succeed where James and William had failed and Mon-El had come so close. They’d snatch her away and Kara would throw herself into it with abandon and Lena would lose her.
Lena pressed her eyes shut to fight back tears. She willed herself not to mourn a loss before its time, to savor the soft weight propped on her chest and the tangy scent of Kara’s skin but she couldn’t help herself.
“Lena?” Kara whispered.
With all the guilt of a thief found red-handed, Lena froze, her mouth dry.
“What’s wrong?”
Lena glanced around the room. The others were all sleeping soundly, passed out in each others arms. Lena wondered what that was like, to sleep with the joyful comfort of assurance that they would not wake alone, that the others would stay.
“Nothing,” Lena lied.
Kara knew. In the dark, her blue eyes seemed to emit a faint light, another peculiarity of Kryptonian physiology that Lena honestly just hadn’t noticed before The Secret was revealed.
Kara turned slightly, shifted, and tucked the blanket in close, wrapped tightly round them. It was chilly in her loft and Kara was like a living furnace, warming Lena’s cold bones. When Kara slipped a hand free, her skin was fever hot on Lena’s cheek. She leaned into the touch, greedy for it.
“It’s okay,” Kara murmured. “Nobody’s gonna get you while I’m here.”
Lena smiled sadly. Kara knew about the night terrors, about her fears and how she sometimes hated the dark, because the barriers of their friendship, the walls that defined it, were so bent and strained that they’d never return to shape, even as they refused to yield.
“That’s not what I’m scared of. I’m scared of when someone gets you.”
Kara blinked.
“Sooner or later you won’t have as much time for your best friend. You’ll find someone else.”
“Why would I want someone else?” Kara said, almost too loud. “I want you.”
Oh God, that hurt so much. It made the frayed edges of that hole in her ache, at once raw and fresh and old and desiccated. She couldn’t go on like this. Why did Kara say things like that?”
“Were you going to kiss me the night we got you back?”
Kara flinched, and now she looked the thief.
They were both silent. Kara stared.
“I was scared to. We’d only just… I was afraid everything would break.”
Lena swallowed hard.
“Kara, what the hell are you waiting for?”
She blinked a few times more, a storm of emotions clouding her angelic features. She flushed, eyes wide, and was looking directly, openly at Lena’s lips.
She tasted like cherry lip balm and red wine. Kara’s kisses were like Kara herself, ardent and gentle in equal measure, the chaste softness of pressed lips smoldering with the same alien fire that burned under her lushly warm skin. Lena moaned softly, and that from little more than a soft peck on the lips.
She was an addict who’d just tasted the ambrosia of her dreams and her head was spinning. In an instant everything had changed, though Kara had barely moved. There was something new in the way Kara’s arms snaked around her. A slight shift and Kara touched her forehead to Lena’s before kissing her again, deeply this time. Lena let her eyes drift shut and savored it.
“I. Am not. Going. Anywhere.”
There was a heavy, almost oppressive silence. A sob of relief choked out of Lena and she hugged Kara fiercely, freely, joyfully free to crush herself against her unbreakable love.
“I mean,” Alex said, “you could move to the bedroom. I think we’d all prefer that.”
Lena almost jumped out of her skin. Kara let out an equally surprised yelp, as they both realized that everyone else was awake and watching them get lost in each other.
Lena cleared her throat. Kara sat up. She was beet red, and Lena was sure she was, too.
“Guys,” said Kara. “Get out.”

Supergirl doesn’t huff. She doesn’t. She’s National City’s superhero, beloved and adorned. Has captivated the hearts of many, saving it tragedy after tragedy. Supergirl is indestructible, bullets bounce off of her, laser beams shoot out from her eyes. Her enemies tremble at the sight of her and yet here is she, huffing like a petulant child withheld her favorite candy all because Lena Luthor keeps ignoring her.
In Lena’s defense, she’s not ignoring ignoring her but she’s also like not giving her the time of day.
While all of National City’s — some would even argue including Metropolis, eyes are on her she can’t seem to capture a specific pair of exquisite emerald hues that belonged to a certain L-Corp CEO.
It doesn’t matter that she’s saved said tech genius multiple times now (not that she loves to dwell on the fact of just how many times she had to save her) but Supergirl always comes to her rescue. Always. Even more times than the media tabloids can count. So much so that there are rumors spreading, mostly from magazines wanting clickbait headlines. Headlines like how the resident superhero has been spotted carrying a certain CEO to safety way too many times.
People talk, tweet, whisper. Who wouldn’t? A Luthor and Super working together is a headline worthy to keep people talking. But no matter how hard Supergirl tries, nothing seems to be working. She can't catch her attention. At least not the kind of attention she secretly hopes to get out from her.
The CEO thanks Supergirl, as she always does. So polite yet begrudgingly reserved.
Supergirl earnestly tries to make sure to be her knight and shining amour and if from time to time she makes a show or flare about it, that’s her business. None of this garner any huge reaction from Lena though.
So, it makes her huff because she’s Supergirl. Although she would never admit it out loud, she does get a little thrill when people watch her in awe. She tries to hide the proud smirk when she successfully blows a house caught on fire with one breath. She doesn't even break a sweat.
If only Lena would look at her the same way.
But as fate might have it, the L-Corp CEO would simply give her a grateful smile and a practiced “thank you” and she’s off— goes on with her day as if she wasn’t just inches away from death.
Lena doesn’t bat an eye when the Kryptonian does her heroic stunts which some would argue is a bit over the top for someone who isn’t even of acquaintance to the CEO.
Supergirl’s touches are so soft, careful, reverent in such way when she rushes towards Lena’s safety like a scene straight out from a comic. This makes Sam, Lena’s friend and arguably only friend she allows to judge her to an extent—  raise a few eyebrows.
So, the National City’s superhero pouts.
Pouting like a six-year told being told to go to bed earlier than she would have wanted. This inevitably pushes her to find ways to impress the green-eyed CEO who watches her with the most blank expression.
She’d even once sent her a wink when she punches a particular large alien straight to oblivion while staring directly at the CEO. Lena's reaction? Nothing. Didn't even crack a smile. She seemed almost unimpressed. Borderline bored. The only thing she receives is a smack in the head from Alex telling her to “stop being inappropriate while wearing the suit”.
Thankfully, Kara doesn’t have pout for long because while Lena barely gives Supergirl the time of day, she gets a completely 180 when she’s Kara Danvers.
For some reason, Lena smiles wider - brighter whenever she’s around the shy, fidgety, clumsy reporter. A CATCO reporter that Lena seems to be head over heels with.
Lena doesn’t even shy away showing how much she enjoys Kara’s company. It should embarrass Kara how much Lena unabashedly favors her in more ways than one but she’d be lying if she doesn’t admit how much she loves spending time with the her. The undivided attention is just a cherry on top.
While Lena barely makes conversation with the resident superhero, she has lunch dates with Kara. Movie dates. She filled her office with flowers as a thank you for the article she published describing about the new acquisition and owner of Luthor Corp now turned L-Corp even though Kara shyly explained that she was simply doing her job, all while the Kyrptonin simply gets a “that’s lucky” for saving her from almost plummeting to her death.
Kara doesn’t miss the slight change of expression on Lena’s face when the Supergirl nervously explained how she found out Lena was in danger.
Was that jealousy? That’s ridiculous! Why would Lena even care that Kara and Supergirl are friends?
But Kara, oblivious Kara only seem to see herself worthy of Lena Luthor when Kara is her alter ego. She feels more confident when she’s Supergirl than she is as Kara. She’s not really sure why. Probably because she feels she has more to offer compared to her reporter persona. Kara is just so…Kara. Simple. Flimsy. Boring.
Lena doesn’t deserve simple. How could someone be as amazing as Lena Luthor possibly find shy, nervous, boring reporter Kara Danvers interesting? She’s just being kind. That’s just how Lena is. Even though Lena literally bought a million-dollar company she knew absolutely nothing about all for Kara. An investment that left Sam completely speechless and Jess losing sleep for a week.
Kara convinces herself that Lena is just a good person and that’s one of the many things she loves about her best friend.
But it continues, and Lena falls for Kara even more. She falls for her perfect smiles the way her face lights up with each new random fact her brain comes up with, her silly jokes that Alex points out are not even that funny but Lena laughs the loudest if only to bring another smile on Kara’s face, their genuine conversations that has Lena opening parts of herself that she has never told anyone about maybe other than Sam and super platonic cuddling.
This makes Kara as Supergirl bolder. She becomes confident in expressing how she feels for Lena while she wears a cape. Lena isn’t the only one falling. So is Kara. Hard.
She falls for Lena’s genuine kindness; how smart Lena is and yet somehow, it’s like she doesn’t know how amazing she is. She falls for the CEO even when she’s wearing the suit that the lines between her and her superhero alter ego almost blurs. Almost.
So, she openly flirts without shame. For someone who’s supposed to be professional in her line of duty, she seems to make it a hobby to send a overtly flirty smile or wink towards the CEO. Supergirl lifts 10-ton trucks in front of Lena, intentionally flexing her biceps basically just to show off. To get the slightest reaction out of Lena but all she gets is a tight lip smile before Lena shoots Kara a text to have lunch.
And while Lena spends more time publicly with Kara, they barely get swarmed with paparazzi. I mean, who would find Lena having lunch with an unknown reporter interesting.? That’s not news worthy.
It’s not even gossip worthy.
But as soon as she’s standing close with Supergirl, their photos are front and center of every magazine cover.
It becomes a headline in a span of minutes, twitter loses their mind. They earn a little fan club even and Lena tries her best to ignore it.
Really, she does but it bothers her a little. Not for the reasons people might think. She finds every headline of her and Supergirl “dating” irritating if not annoying because that’s not exactly the blonde she wants her name to be associated with.
Sure, she and Kara are getting closer - Lena can feel it. A connection more than friends tethering their bond, an unspoken knowledge neither one of them brave enough to admit. Yet.
She ponders. Hopefully.
The nonstop rumors about her and Supergirl are starting to get on her nerves since last thing she wants is for Kara to get the wrong impression.
Lena considers what she and Kara have fragile. Delicate. Like the slightest turmoil would send it crashing. She can’t have that. Not if she can help it. She won’t allow rumors about her and a hero with an awful god complex ruin it.
She worries what Kara might think of her connection with Supergirl because there isn’t. It’s purely transactional. Business at best. They’re barely even friends.
She’s given the superhero the coldest shoulder she can whenever they’re in close proximity. It's probably not fair but she makes sure to keep a respectable distance between them. It doesn’t help however that the superhero seems to enjoy being close to her.
Hovering almost. It infuriates her even more.
So, she tries to hide it. It’s not the alien’s fault Lena has fallen for the reporter. It’s not Supergirl’s fault she has issues and is overprotective of her relationship with Kara.
Lena isn’t a fan however of the fact that Supergirl somehow is never shy to leave a comment of what she thinks about Lena. While Lena doubles her effort to make sure she doesn’t mention Supergirl in any of her interviews unless necessary, Supergirl is the complete total opposite.
She talks about Lena. A lot. Her projects, her advocacy (How did she even have the time to remember that? Lena’s only mentioned it once) and what she does for the community. It’s so hard to hate the superhero when she’s nothing but nice and supportive towards the scientist.
Almost like this unwavering and undying devotion which to her is a little dramatic since she doesn’t even think highly of herself at times.
Lena thinks, “Thanks but like, can you please just shut up about me for one second?!”
Apparently, Supergirl does and she praises Lena every chance she gets, every time a microphone is shoved towards her asking what she thinks of the L-Corp CEO.
Lena knows the media is doing it on purpose too and it’s fueling whatever rumors that are going on about them. And while she appreciates Superhero’s opinions and generous words, there is only one opinion that she really cares about.
She was mortified when she saw Kara staring at a photo of her with Supergirl, arms wrapped protective around her in one of the magazines on her desk (she’s sure Sam did it on purpose, she doesn’t remember ever getting a copy for herself), Lena immediately snatches it out from Kara’s hands, shoves it inside her drawer and starts rambling defensively preparing for a full-blown explanation to whatever possible questions were running through the reporter’s mind. Noticeably, Kara barely says a word.
Even as Kara stays silent, Lena still feels as though she needs to explain herself. She tells Kara nothing is going on, and she doesn’t see Supergirl that way at all. She shouldn’t be defensive when Kara has not made as much fuss about it but she can’t help it. Sweet, nice, understanding Kara Danvers just smiles and says “I don’t know. You two look good together”.
Now it’s Lena that freezes. She stands there, gob smacked and absolutely lost because what was that supposed to mean?
Does it bother her that Kara almost seemed okay with it? Does Kara think something is actually going on or she doesn’t think much of it? Did Lena expect a little bit jealousy? That’s insane and frankly quiet immature for her to hope to get a rise out of Kara. But Kara simply shrugged and started devouring their shared lunch.
It’s fine. Lena’s fine. She doesn’t care that Kara doesn’t care. This is good. This should be good. It doesn’t bother her at all. Or so she tells herself. Until it does.
Lena tried to casually prob the topic again. Tries her best to not sound too desperate. She thinks of the easiest way to brooch the topic without being conspicuous. With perfect timing, the TV flashes an image and it showed a picture of Supergirl clutching on Lena protectively from a blast, another poor attempt on her life.
Whether it’s because of Supergirl’s overprotectiveness or just her natural aura which was how the photo was taken, it came out beautiful. Stunning. Almost breath taking that you would think it was staged.
On top of that it’s also intimate. The way the superhero is holding her. Lena barely remembers being held by the super. She was too busy trying to not have a panic attack after just seconds away from an exploding bomb.
Lena held her breathe. Any minute now.
Lena had been glancing at Kara’s direction since the news started, waiting. The news anchor mentioned what everyone else was already thinking. How sweet they both look, that somehow, they manage to turn what supposedly should have been an image that would portray fear and anxiousness into something almost heartwarming. She waits, and waits until she breaks the silence herself.
“I can’t believe people actually assume I’m dating Supergirl.” Lena scoffs, forces a laugh as tries to be casual, as if her heart isn’t about to beat out of her chest wondering what Kara might be thinking.
“I wouldn’t blame them. You two make a great couple.”
Before Lena could even respond, Kara adds, “I mean, you and Supergirl? It’s Supergirl, Lena. Everyone wants her. Half of National City probably has a crush on her. I wouldn’t be surprised if you did.” Kara finishes off, with a fond roll in her eyes as if to tell her it’s not a big deal. That it’s normal.  She takes the remote out from Lena’s hands while she uses the other to shove popcorn in her mouth. Lena swears she could almost see a smirk forming Kara’s lips. As if she was smug about something.
But it wouldn’t make any sense. Also, why was Kara so fine with it? And why was Lena so annoyed that it didn’t bother Kara? They’ve been going out on dates but nothing about it were friendly. At least not to Lena. Was she reading things wrong? She knows she’s not.
Lena’s too smart to be reading into things. She has three PHDs for crying out loud. She can explain quantum physics in her sleep but this? Lena has never been so sure and so confused about something in her life.
It’s possible to assume what she has with Kara is simply friendship but it’s hard to deny that there’s something more. She feels it. In the way she lights up when Kara is around, when a single text from the reporter brightens up even her darkest days.Good morning and Good Night shouldn’t be causing butterflies to fly rampant in your stomach or make your chest ache with so much joy. But it does. It does for Kara.
“Not me though,” Lena finally says after finding her voice. She looks away, afraid that blue eyes can see beyond the facade she’s trying to keep up. “I don’t… I don’t see her that way.”
Kara pauses mid-way from ingulfing her popcorn. Lips purse as if she’s thinking hard about something. “Really?” Kara doesn’t even hide the surprise in her voice as she slowly turns to face Lena, popcorn temporarily forgotten. “Why not?” Why was Kara whining about this? Lena should be whining, not her.
“What do you mean, ‘Why not?’”
“I mean.. Why don’t you.. But she’s so.. — it’s Supergirl, Lena! She’s like the strongest woman ever! She’s a superhero and she’s so..” Kara blushes, as if trying to find the right words but also somehow struggling to let them out at the same time. This confuses Lena even more.
“She should totally be your type! She’s like everyone’s type!” Kara throws her hands trying to make a point.
Lena just stares at her. Unimpressed. Scrunching her nose, she turns her attention back to the screen changing the channel. “Well, she’s not.” The CEO deadpans and that was the end of it.
Lena tries to forget about that disaster of a movie night. She really does. She wills herself not to think about it. She tries pushing it at the back on her mind for two days until Lena reaches her limit.
She’s furious. How dare Kara Danvers just — push her away like she’s nothing. ‘She should be your type’ plays on her head nonstop almost mocking her and it makes her want to scream! How could someone be this —ugh.
That’s how Sam finds her. Pacing around her office like a mad woman on a mission rage written all over her face. She looks like a ticking time bomb just seconds from exploding.
“Looks like someone woke up at the wrong side of the bed this morning,” cautiously Sam approaches, like walking close to a wild animal. She makes sure to leave a respectable distance just in case.
“Unbelievable!” Lena starts her rant, her hands balled into a fist. “I can’t believe out of all people she thinks Supergirl is perfect for me.”
“I mean she’s not—”
“Samantha Arias, I swear to god not today.”
Sam immediately lifts both hands in surrender, taking another step back.
“Here I was worried sick of what she might think about these stupid rumors only to find out she obviously doesn’t care! The nerve! She thinks supergirl should totally be my type?! Supergirl?!”
Sam opens her mouth attempting to ask a question or two but seeing as Lena is close to throwing the nearest thing she could grab against the wall, she decided against it.
But the thing is, Kara Danvers does care. She probably cares more than anyone. Kara Danvers cares about Lena Luthor so much that it bothered the Kryptonian that Supergirl isn’t Lena’s type hence why she’s huffing again.
However, another incident, another threat to Lena’s life changes everything.
It was such a close call that it leaves them both breathless and the girl of steel shaking as she holds Lena close. Blue eyes scan each and every corner of Lena’s face making sure she’s okay. Making sure she’s real and nothing bad has happened. She made it on time. She's safe. Normally, Lena wouldn’t allow this much intimacy between them but after this attack she needed something to ground her a little.
“You’re okay. Thank Rao, you’re okay.” Lena doesn’t move, her feet appear to be rooted both by shock and fear while Supergirl continues to examine every inch of her face. “I was so scared I was going to lose you,” Supergirl whispers and Lena could hear the tremble in her voice.
Everything happened so fast that Lena was having trouble trying to process everything. The attempt on her life, how she was merrily inches away from death. She remembers the exact moment she came to terms with it. This was it. Finally, from all the attempts on her life that this was the one to take her out. She should have known. An exploding bomb in her car was a classic. Lena would have been okay with it if not for a specific blonde reporter that she wished was with her at that very moment. She can’t die. Not yet. Not until she tells Kara how she feels. They at least deserve that.
However, the reality is Kara's not here. Supergirl is. Supergirl is the one holding her. Holding her the way she would have hoped a certain blonde reporting was holding her.
Lena had to close her eyes to stop looking back at blue eyes staring at her with so much concern. This can’t happen. She’s not — she can’t be. She loves Kara Danvers. She might be pissed at her but she knows deep down she’s in love with the nervous fidgety reporter and not to this impenetrable woman right in front of her.
Her head shakes as Supergirl’s tighten her grip as if too afraid Lena might slip away. During these moments when Lena allows herself to feel, she genuinely does not know what to make of it. Why does Supergirl care about her so much. No one is watching. There are no cameras recording their interaction.
She assumes it was all for publicly but this, it feels different. When it’s just them and no one else. Supergirl stands close to her, completely shaken and unbalanced. There is genuine fear in her eyes at the thought of being too late or not being fast enough. Lena has never felt safer.
As she starts to pulls away, green eyes meet glassy blue. She convinces herself it’s the dust and not the resident superhero actually in tears because that would mean…
“I thought I was going to lose you.”
“But why do you—”
Before Lena could respond, she feels a pair of lips against her own and everything around them seems to disappear.
It barely registers to her what is happening, completely getting lost on the pair of lips against her own. Lena feels a shiver run down her spine at the way Supergirl is kissing her, making her grab unto the superhero’s shoulder.
The action was meant to push the super away because this can’t be happening. These were not the pair of lips she wanted on her but somehow, it feels right. Like this was how things were suppose to be. She feels her heart raising as Supergirl deepens the kiss, feeling herself getting pushed slightly until the back of her knee hits against a hard surface but it barely registers to Lena because Supergirl is kissing her in a way she's never been kissed before.
Finally, Lena finds the strength to pull away the need to breathe outweighing her body’s desire. And for the first time, she wills herself to stare at the pair of brilliant oceanic eyes that she’s been trying so hard to ignore. She lets her eyes track down every detail of the superheroes face, trying to figuring out a puzzle with missing pieces. Blue eyes stare back at her with a mix of desire and unbridled affection as Lena continues to gasp for air and stares.
Something about Supergirl’s smile, the strong line of her jaw, the way her soft lips parts as she patiently waits for Lena to say something seems so familiar. Like an answer at the tip of her tongue but can’t seem to get it out. It’s frustrating as it is captivating and all Lena wants to do is drink it in, see past the mask that this superhero constantly wears and be able to see what all this means.
Being this close, Lena can see the moment Supergirl lips rise to form a smile. A smile Lena is all too familiar with now that she’s finally inches away from the superhero. It’s all too familiar now and finally, it dawns to her.
A tiny gasp leaves her lips at the realization, emerald eyes never leaving blue as Supergirl’s smile brightens. As if she too understands that Lena has finally figured it out. With trembling delicate fingers, Lena reaches up and cup Supergirl’s cheeks and instinctively, Supergirl leans against her touch. Like it’s the most natural thing in the world.
Lena feels a gentle squeeze where Supergirl is holding her and she lets out a breath she didn’t even know she was holding.
“Kara?” Lena whispers, barely hiding the tremble of her own voice and there it was. The smile of the woman she’s been not so secretly in love with plastered on National City hero’s face.
“I am madly in love with you, Miss Lena Luthor.”

♕ No Matter What - Part 10 | Lena Luthor ♕
Tumblr media
Pairing: Lena Luthor x reader
Warnings: none
Previous Part | Next Part | Masterlist
________________________________________________
The smell of pizza makes my stomach growl as soon as I step out of the shower.
I change into some comfortable clothes, a shirt and some sweatpants, and dry my hair as best as I can with a towel.
Then, I turn off the lights and make my way into the living room where Lena’s already on the couch, eating pizza.
Instead of eating it straight out of the box like a normal person though, she has taken a slice and put it on a small plate, putting it down on the plate every time after she’s taken a bite.
So posh…
I smile and join her wordlessly, taking a slice and biting into it messily. Tomato sauce ends up all around my mouth and Lena chuckles, handing me a napkin to wipe it away.
I thank her and send her a cheeky grin right before diving in for my next bite. It makes her lips twitch adorably and I feel a sense of accomplishment rush through me.
“You know,” I say after swallowing, “You do have your own clothes here now, so there’s no need to steal mine anymore.”
Lena ducks her head shyly and grabs another slice from the box. She’s wearing the hoodie and sweatpants I gave her two nights ago when we she first stayed the night even though we’ve been to her apartment since then to get some of her own stuff.
The police have yet to find out how the security system has been bypassed and until that’s not resolved, she’s staying with me.
“But I like your clothes. They’re baggy and comfortable,” she admits with red ears and I can’t help but nudge her with my foot.
“I’m sure your fancy pajamas are just as– if not even more comfortable than my old army hoodie that’s been through the washer a thousand times,” I tease, referring to the set of silk pajamas I saw in Lena’s closet when I helped her pack some of her stuff.
“Shut up. . .” she mumbles, embarrassed, and I throw my hands up in faux surrender.
“I’m just saying,” I tease before dropping it and going back to eating.
A comfortable silence settles over us and I secretly love how domestic all of this feels. Ever since Lena’s asked me to unzip her dress, things have fundamentally changed between us and almost every glance we share feels charged.
She is still my boss though, which makes me hesitant every time she’s close by.
My phone vibrates on the coffee table and I lean forward mid-bite to see what the notification says. It’s just a thunderstorm warning from my weather app, so I lean back to continue eating.
Lena’s eyes stay on my phone though and when I’m about to ask what’s going on, she points at it and carefully asks, “Is that your brother?”
I pick the phone back up and turn on the screen, seeing the familiar picture of Noah, Harper and I on the beach two years ago.
I smile sadly and nod. “Yeah, that’s Noah.”
Lena’s soft eyes find mine and when she sees that I’m not about to shut down, she points at Harper. “And who’s this?”
Harper is kissing Noah’s cheek in the picture and I’m behind them, pulling a funny face.
“That’s Harper,” I explain calmly. To my surprise I’m not getting choked up and I also don’t feel grief pulling at my insides like I normally do when I talk about them. “She is— was my brother’s fiancée.”
Lena’s eyebrows furrow and she puts her plate on the coffee table, burying her hands in her lap. “Is she. . .”
Dead?
I know that that is what she wants to ask, so I shake my head. “No, she’s fine. We—“I pause and scratch at my eyebrow—“ had a bit of a falling out after his death though.”
Lena nods and watches me carefully for a reaction. Her head is slightly tilted and her pupils are blown in the low light.
There’s really no point in not telling her the whole story now, not when she’s looking at me like that, so I swallow that last piece of pizza before leaning back into the cushions, pulling one of my legs up to my chest.
“She did try to contact me a couple of days ago, saying she was sorry for shutting me out and not saying anything when my dad blamed me for Noah’s death, but I don’t think I’m ready to deal with all of that just yet,” I admit quietly, my eyes trained on my index finger drawing random shapes onto my knee.
Lena hums encouragingly and pulls her own legs onto the couch so she’s sitting on them.
“W-we got pinned by some rebels during a routine supply run and Noah went against my direct orders to stay put after I got shot in the shoulder when I tried to get to the radio in our truck.”
I take a shaky breath and look up to find Lena watching me with sympathy, not pity, which makes all the difference. I hate it when people pity me because it makes them treat me differently.
“My dad—When we got back after Noah’s death. . . He said I could have done more. Should have done more even though there was nothing I could do.
“He blames me for his death and sometimes I have the feeling that he’d rather it have been m-me who died.”
That last part comes out in a broken whisper and Lena reaches for the hand on my knee, lacing our fingers together with a determined look.
“Hey, no, don’t think that,“ she states with a squeeze to my hand. “It wasn’t your fault and your dad is horrible for making you feel that way.”
I scoff and aggressively wipe at a tear that somehow managed to escape my eye.
“I’m seriously,” Lena insists, tugging on our interlaced hands to get me to look at her. “I’m glad you’re alive and even though I didn’t know him, I’m sure Noah would be glad too.”
I smile warily, acutely aware of the pain currently displayed on my face. I usually hate people seeing me like this, but Lena is so calm and understanding about it, it makes me want to be vulnerable.
Lena lifts our intertwined hands and press a featherlight kiss to my knuckles. My skin tingles where her lips made contact and I have to drop my chin hide the blush on my neck.
“Thank you for telling me,” she whispers a moment later. “And thank you for not quitting. I honestly don’t know what I’d without you.”
I clear my throat and try my best to smile when I look up. There’s not much I can think of saying right now so I fold my leg underneath myself and suggest we watch a movie.
Lena agrees easily and moves closer, leaning into my side as I turn on the TV. It’s a move so natural by now, it barely fazes me anymore and I squeeze her hand which is still intertwined with my own.
I sigh and open my eyes, looking around the dark living room to find what woke me up.
The digital clock on the oven reads 3 AM and I sit up, pushing the thin blanket off me.
Lena and I went to bed hours ago after I noticed her tired glossed over eyes. It didn’t take much convincing for her to take the bed once again which I an grateful for.
The couch works just fine for me and it’s honestly not that uncomfortable considering I’ve slept on the ground countless times while overseas with only a rock as my pillow and a jacket as a blanket.
I get up and make sure the door is still locked, whipping around the next second when I hear a whimper coming from the bedroom.
I immediately rush across the living room, grabbing my service weapon on the way before I push open the door to the bedroom.
Blood is pumping in my ears and my hands are shaking when I look around, but there’s no one here except Lena who’s still fast asleep on the bed.
I lower my gun when another whimper leaves her lips and that’s when I realize she’s having a nightmare.
Her eyebrows are scrunched and her breathing is erratic, a sheen of sweat glistening on her forehead.
Sympathy washes over me and I take a seat at the edge of the bed after putting the gun on the nightstand. I placing a hand on her shoulder to wake her gently, only to jump in surprise when she shoots up with wide eyes as soon as my hand makes contact.
“Hey, hey, hey. You’re okay,” I say, squeezing her shoulder. “It was just a dream.”
Lena’s twists to look at me and once she realizes what happened, tears fill her eyes and she throws her arms around my neck.
“You’re okay,” she whispers against my neck. “You’re okay. . .”
“I— Yeah, I’m fine,” I stutter, letting her pull me down onto the bed.
What the hell was she dreaming about?
Lena lets out a shaky breath and moves us around so her head is on my chest and her arms are wrapped around my stomach.
The proximity once again makes my skin tingle and the thought she’s still your boss, YN, is the only reason why I don’t kiss the top of her head.
I do however warp my arms around her and hold her close, ignoring the way my heart flutters when she buries her face in the fabric of my shirt.
“Are you okay? Do you want to talk about it?” I whisper against her temple.
She shakes her head and sighs.
I run my hand up and down her back, feeling bad that she’s going through this. I’ve had my fair share of nightmares and I know how triggering they can be.
“Is there anything I can do?” I offer and for a moment I don’t think she’s going to say anything, but then her small voice cuts through the silence.
“Can you stay?”
My breath hitches and just to be sure I’m actually understanding what she wants, I ask, “You mean here? In bed. . . with you?”
A nod against my chest is all I get in response and I’m sure by now Lena can hear how fast my heart is beating.
“I— Yeah, alright,” I manage to choke out and it’s all it takes for her to reach down and pull the comforter over the two of us.
“Thank you,” she mumbles and by the sounds of it she’s already half-asleep again.
A few minutes later her breathing evens out and her grip around my middle loosens and I let out a deep breath.
She’s still your boss. . . She’s still your boss. . . She’s still your BOSS! I remind myself over and over again, watching as her back rises and falls with each breath she takes.
Her lips are slightly pursed and there’s a faint crinkle between her eyebrows but other than that she looks fairly peaceful.
It’s a breathtaking sight and as I study her a pang of realization hits me in the chest.
I think I’m falling in love with you. . .
Following my realization, I sneak out of bed the next morning as soon as I wake up. It proves to be quite difficult to get out of Lena’s grasp, but once I’m free I quickly jump in the shower and put on some clothes, pent on grabbing some breakfast at a nearby bakery.
It’ll allow me to get away from Lena for a bit and help me process what happened last night. Well, not just last night, I guess, this has been in the making for a couple of weeks now, but last night was the first time it actually hit me what’s actually going on.
I take one last look at Lena’s sleeping form before slipping out of the apartment.
I don’t worry about anything happening while I’m gone because it’s still early and no one except Sam knows where she’s staying.
I pull my hood up against the drizzle outside, knowing (thanks to the weather app on my phone) that that drizzle will soon turn into a heavy storm.
It’s no problem though because Lena’s decided to work from home today and it will give me a chance to catch up on some paperwork I’ve been meaning to do for the gym I used to teach self defense classes at.
It’s something I’ve put on hold since I started working for Lena, but I still help out with organizing class schedules every now and then.
I get to the bakery fifteen minutes after opening time and to my surprise there are already people there.
I take off my hood as soon as I step inside an go to stand at the end of the queue that has already formed. The smell of freshly baked bread and pastries has my mouth watering and I pull out my wallet to be ready to pay as soon as it’s my turn.
I’m so lost in my own thoughts (which are mostly thoughts of Lena) that I flinch when someone taps my shoulder.
I turn around warily to see what it is a stranger could possibly want from me at this time of the morning, only to go slack-jawed when that person happens to be none other than Harper.
She’s dressed in running gear and I curse myself for not remembering that it is her every day routine to stop by this exact place after her morning run whenever she’s not on tour.
She seems to be equally surprised to see me even though she’s the one who tapped me on the shoulder and for a moment neither one of us says something.
“H-hi,” she manages to get out as the queue starts moving. “When I came in and saw you I didn’t think that it was actually you, but I had to know, you know. . . Because it’s been a while and will you look at that. . . It is you. I— Wow, I’m honestly not sure what I was thinking, I’m sorry. I know you’re not ready to talk yet, but—“
I lift a hand to stop her, which only seems to make her even more nervous, so I smile reassuringly and say, “It’s fine, Harper.”
She grimaces and drops her chin for a moment. “Right, sorry.”
I must admit, what happened between us will not be forgotten for a long time, but seeing her act likes this when we were once so close makes me take pity on her.
“No, really, it’s okay,” I say. “How are you? It’s been a while.”
Harper brushes a strand of sweaty blonde hair off her forehead, which I remember is a nervous tick of hers, and nods thoughtfully. “Honestly, I’ve been better, but I’m keeping myself busy. How are you?”
The queue moves again and I make sure to move with it.
“I’m hanging in there,” I say honestly and when Harper’s eyes meet mine I smile sadly.
She hums in understanding and we go back to being silent for a while. When it’s almost my turn to order, she touches my arm to regain my attention.
“I meant what I said on the phone,” she says earnestly. “I’m sorry for what happened, and I don’t blame you for Noah’s death.”
I suck in a sharp breath and scratch the back of my neck. “Yeah, okay. . .”
“No, I’m serious, Y/N,” she persists and squeezes my forearm. “I’m sorry and I want to make things right. I miss you.“
I take in the vulnerability that’s written all over her face and sigh.
I’ve missed her, too. She was like a sister to me before Noah’s death and to say that I didn’t miss her would be a straight up lie. Yes, she shut me out and it made me feel like shit for a long time, but she was grieving and so was I.
I’m next in line to order, so I take her hand off my forearm (not entirely comfortable with her touch just yet) and squeeze her hand before letting go. “How about we grab some coffee next week, yeah? That way we can talk properly.”
Harper nods and brushes another strand of hair from her face. “Yeah, alright. Text me. I’m free whenever.”
I send her one last tight-lipped smile before turning around and ordering.
The woman behind the register hands me my food a few moments later and I take it and leave without looking back.

Lena Luthor villain arc with tragedy. Sad, angsty. Kinda painful tbh. (Trying out something new- I'm sorry.)
tw: death
Tumblr media
As Lena stood frozen in her office, Lex's revelation echoed through her mind like a relentless scream.
"Kara Danvers is Supergirl."
The anger that surged within Lena was more than just a fiery blaze; it was a consuming inferno, tearing through her with a ferocity she had never known. It was a primal, gut-wrenching rage that threatened to consume her from the inside out. How could Kara, the person Lena had trusted above all others, the one she had poured her heart and soul into, deceive her so completely? Every memory they shared, every whispered secret, every stolen glance and lingering touch now felt like shards of glass slicing into Lena's heart.
Betrayal twisted like a knife in Lena's gut, a relentless, gnawing ache that refused to be ignored. She had let Kara in, allowed herself to believe in their connection, their bond, only to have it all ripped away in an instant.
Lena's fists clenched so tightly that her nails dug deep into her palms, drawing blood that went unnoticed.
And beneath the anger, beneath the seething fury that threatened to consume her whole, lay something even more agonizing: the crushing weight of her own foolishness.
She allowed herself to fall in love with Kara.
Lena had fallen for Kara, fallen so deeply and so irrevocably that it sometimes felt like she was drowning. She had trusted Kara with everything she had, given her heart without reservation, only to be repaid with deceit and betrayal.
Kara had played her for a fool, spinning her web of lies with practiced ease while Lena foolishly danced to her tune. And now, as the truth lay bare before her, Lena felt a cold, numbing emptiness settle over her. Tears threatened to spill from her eyes, but Lena refused to let them fall. She would not give Kara the satisfaction of her tears, of witnessing the devastation she had wrought.
In that moment, Lena felt as though she had been hollowed out, stripped bare of everything she once held dear.
Kara Danvers had torn her apart. She had shattered Lena's heart into a million irreparable pieces, and there was no going back.
Did Kara not trust her? Did she see Lena as nothing more than a Luthor, tainted by the sins of her family name?
Was that what Kara thought her to be? A villain, unworthy of trust or redemption? If that's how Kara saw her, then perhaps it was time Lena embraced that role fully. She had tried to rise above the shadow of her family's legacy, to prove herself worthy of Kara's faith and, someday, her love. But if Kara couldn't see past the Luthor name, then perhaps Lena should stop pretending to be anything other than what she was: a Luthor, tainted by blood and betrayal.
The bitterness of the realization tasted like poison on Lena's tongue. She had loved Kara, secretly, fiercely, with a devotion that bordered on obsession. And now, as she stood on the precipice of darkness, Lena's heartbreak threatened to consume her whole.
Every word, every touch, every stolen glance between them replayed in Lena's mind like a cruel mockery of what could never be. She had allowed herself to dream of a future with Kara, to imagine a life where they could be together. But those dreams lay shattered at Lena's feet.
What a fool.
If Kara saw her as a villain, then a villain she would be.
--
The soft click of the door opening drew Lena's attention to Kara breezing into her office. Lena's heart leapt at the sight, as it always did.
Dressed in a button-up shirt, her glasses hiding those piercing blue eyes, Kara brought with her the bashfulness and innocence that once brightened Lena's day. But now, every glance at Kara was a stab to her heart. She knew that beneath that facade lay a web of lies, woven with expert precision by Kara herself. How could Lena have been so blind, so foolish to trust someone who had manipulated her with such ease? How could she have missed the signs? How could she have failed to see the truth that was staring her right in the face?
But Lena knew the answer. It was because she wanted to believe in Kara. She had allowed herself to be lulled into a false sense of security, to fall in love, only to be betrayed in the cruelest of ways. And now, as Kara stood before her, Lena couldn't help but feel a pang of anger at the realization of how thoroughly she had been played.
Kara held a takeout bag in her hands, a small smile playing at her lips as she met Lena's gaze. She looked so beautiful it almost hurt, and Lena couldn't help but feel a pang of longing deep within her chest. For a moment, she allowed herself to imagine what could have been, if she hadn't learned the truth. They would settle on the couch in Lena's office, laughing and talking while eating the grossly unhealthy takeout that Kara would have surely brought. Lena would have been happy. Content.
But those thoughts were nothing more than a cruel fantasy. She couldn't allow herself to forget the lies, the deceit that had woven its way through every moment of their relationship. Kara was a liar, and Lena couldn't bear to look at her now without feeling like a fool.
This wasn't the Kara she thought she knew. This wasn't the friend she had trusted with her deepest secrets. This wasn't the woman she had stupidly fallen in love with. This was a stranger, wearing Kara's face like a mask, hiding the true extent of her deception behind a facade of innocence and charm. Lena wanted to applaud Kara's charade.
Now, there would be no lunch, no laughter, no friendship between them. Not when it had all been built on a foundation of lies. She couldn't keep up the pretense any longer.
"Supergirl," Lena's voice cut through the air like a blade, her tone sharp and cold. She watched as Kara's smile faltered
"Supergirl? Where?" Kara's attempt to deflect, to keep up the lie was almost laughable.
"Please. Stop lying to me," Lena whispered.
Panic flashed across Kara's face, her eyes wide with fear, and Lena felt a fleeting satisfaction.
"You've been lying to me since day one, Kara. You shattered every defense I ever had, and it was all a lie. Even after I confided in you about how everyone I ever cared about betrayed me, you still did this. Was it amusing? To play games with a Luthor? Because evidently, I'm not deserving of your honesty, of your trust."
As Kara reached out, her hand trembling, Lena recoiled. Oh how she once craved that touch.
"Lena, please. Let me explain."
"Explain what?" Lena's voice cracked with anguish, her eyes clouded with unshed tears. "That in your eyes, I'm just another villain to be manipulated? I understand, Kara. I've been nothing more than a fool to you."
"God, Lena. No. You mean everything to me." Kara's voice shook with emotion, and Lena wondered how much of it was an act. "At first, I wanted to protect you from that part of my life. And then, we got closer, so close, and I just didn't know how to tell you without destroying everything. I didn't want to lose you."
Lena refused to listen to Kara's excuses, refused to allow herself to be manipulated any longer.
"Stop this charade, Kara. You've been lying to me, mocking our friendship, even after I shared my deepest wounds with you. I never imagined you would betray me too."
As Kara stepped toward her, tears streaming down her face, Lena's heart hardened with resentment. Were her tears merely another performance in Kara's elaborate deception?
"Don't," Lena's voice trembled. "This friendship, us, it's over. You don't trust me. I'm just a Luthor, right? An evil, calculating Luthor. So be it."
Kara's tears fell like rain, but Lena remained unmoved by their false sincerity. "Lena, please. I'm so sorry. I never meant--"
"No, Kara. Just go. Please. I can't do this. I can't bear to look at you," Lena's voice trembled with the effort to hold back her tears as Kara turned and left, leaving Lena alone.
And finally, Lena allowed herself to cry.
---
two months later
Lena's footsteps echoed through the fortress, her heart pounding in her chest. She had one mission—to steal Myriad. It was a crucial component of Project Non Nocere, her collaboration with her brother, and she couldn't afford to fail. Despite the dangers of working with Lex, his vision made sense to her. At least he didn't deceive her, unlike others.
The promises of peace and control that Lex offered beckoned to Lena. The belief that humanity's flaws, their inclination toward deceit and manipulation, were at the root of all conflict made sense to Lena. In her eyes, people lied, schemed, and betrayed each other, perpetuating a cycle of suffering. She and Lex were in agreement on this fundamental truth. And she knew how to stop it.
As Lena approached her objective, she steeled herself for the confrontation she knew would come. Supergirl would undoubtedly arrive to stop her, but Lena was prepared. She had a plan to neutralize her adversary. And that is what Supergirl had become- her adversary.
When Kara finally appeared, confusion and hurt etched upon her face, Lena's resolve wavered for an instant but those eyes also fueled the fire of Lena's determination, pushing her to carry out her mission.
With trembling hands, Lena activated the trap she had meticulously prepared. The mechanism sprang to life, encasing Kara in a prison of kryptonite. Lena winced at the sight of Kara weakened, the pain of her actions a dagger in her soul. But she knew she had to see this through, for the greater good—or so she told herself. It still pained her to see Kara weakened, to be the cause of her suffering, but she knew it was necessary.
"Lena, why are you doing this?" Kara's voice, weakened by the kryptonite's effects, pierced through the air.
"Because I'm a villain, remember?"
A part of Lena wanted to rush to Kara's side, to gather her into her arms, but she steeled herself.
Another part of her wanted to leave Kara in that trap, as Lex had advised her to do- but she couldn't do that either. Despite everything, despite the betrayal, she couldn't bring herself to truly inflict harm upon Kara. So Lena deactivated the trap, allowing Supergirl to collapse to the floor, weakened but alive as she left the fortress.
--
Some time later, at the Mount Norquay Bunker
Lena stood next to Lex, poised to set their nefarious plan into motion when the DEO burst through the doors, led by Supergirl. Lena's heart leapt at the sight, despite everything. She couldn't stop her heart from reacting to Kara, no matter how hard she tried.
Lex's expression twisted in disbelief as he laid eyes on the seemingly invincible Supergirl. His shock quickly morphed into rage, his eyes blazing with fury as he directed his anger towards Lena.
"You couldn't even take care of her, sister?" Lex's voice dripped with scorn, his disappointment palpable.
"I couldn't do it," she confessed, her voice barely a whisper.
Before Lena could comprehend what was happening, Lex seized a kryptonite weapon, aiming it directly at her. Shock surged through Lena as she realized she was being used as a shield against Supergirl.
A cold chill swept through the bunker as Lex issued his chilling ultimatum. "Take another step, Supergirl, and I'll kill her," he threatened, his voice dripping with malice.
Supergirl froze, her hands raised in a gesture of surrender, her eyes pleading with Lex to release Lena. "Let her go, Lex. It's all over," she implored, her voice tinged with desperation.
But Lex's resolve remained unyielding. "It's not over until I say it is," he declared, his finger tightening on the trigger.
Lena closed her eyes, bracing herself for the inevitable, accepting her fate. She deserved this. But when she opened them, she was met with a sight that shattered her to the core.
Kara had intercepted the bullet meant for Lena, her body absorbing the deadly impact of the kryptonite. Time seemed to stand still as Kara collapsed to the ground, her chest pierced by the lethal projectile.
A strangled cry tore from Lena's throat as she watched Kara fall. She stumbled forward, reaching out to Kara as the DEO agents moved swiftly to apprehend Lex, their actions a blur of motion in the chaos.
Lex's laughter echoed through the bunker, a twisted symphony of triumph and madness. "Well, at least you weakened her, sister," he taunted Lena, his words like poison on her ears.
Lena's mind reeled as she knelt beside Kara's prone form, her hands trembling as she reached out to touch her. "What have I done?" she whispered, her voice choked with anguish and regret.
Tears streamed down Lena's cheeks as she cradled Kara's head in her lap, "I'm so sorry, Kara. I'm so sorry," she sobbed, her words a desperate plea for forgiveness.
Kara's hand weakly reached for Lena's face, her touch fading as her strength waned. "Lena," she whispered softly, her voice barely a whisper.
As Kara lay in Lena's arms, the light slowly fading from her eyes, Lena felt a surge of overwhelming guilt wash over her. She watched helplessly as the vibrant spark that had always defined Kara dimmed, replaced by the haunting shadow of death.
In that moment, as Kara's life slipped away before her very eyes, she realized with painful clarity how horribly she had treated Kara, how she had allowed her anger and bitterness to cloud her judgment, to blind her to the truth.
With aching regret, Lena wished she could turn back time, go back to that pivotal moment when Kara had offered her an apology, and accept it with open arms. She wished she could undo all the pain and betrayal, erase the choices that had led to this. Throughout everything, she had never once considered that she could lost Kara like this.
This was Kara, her Kara, the woman she loved more than anything in this world, and now she was losing her because of her own actions. How could she have let it come to this? How could she have been so blind, so stupidly angry?
It was as if Lena was finally snapping out of a trance, one fueled by anger and resentment, and now, faced with the devastating reality of Kara's imminent death, none of it meant anything. All she wanted was Kara back, safe and sound in her arms.
Through tear-streaked eyes, Lena leaned down and whispered those three words she had never dared to speak aloud before. "I love you," she confessed, her voice choked with emotion, her heart breaking with each syllable, "Please, please come back to me. I'm sorry."
But as Kara's life slipped away, Lena felt the crushing weight of her own guilt bear down upon her. She wished she could trade places with Kara, to undo the irreversible damage she had caused.
In that moment, as Kara drew her final breath, Lena wished she could die too, to escape the unbearable agony of her own making, to be reunited with the woman she had loved and lost.
She had nothing to live for anymore. And it was her own fault.

National City’ secret hero.
Supercorp, Kara Danvers x Daughter!Reader, Lena Luthor x Daughter!Reader
Word Count: 2225.
Some may think Lena has gone soft. This time you’ve done worse things than anything you did before in your life, and she has given you less grounding time. Normally, you would think something is off. But she knows that grounding means nothing to you when Kara is still giving you the cold shoulder. Hence, the most pointless mother-daughter guilt trip in the form of punishment in the entire human history.
So, no. You don’t think she is going soft, just that she is trying to be sympathetic with this much bigger pain you’re feeling.
“Why don’t you get out of this bedroom?” Lena asks, walking in to pick up your dirty clothes. “I told you, you’re not grounded anymore. Go see your girlfriend or hang out with your cousin. Just text me where you are and be back for dinner.”
“No, I’m ok.” You go back to your book, ignoring her loud sigh.
“Baby.” You feel Lena’s hand on your hair. She plays with it, speaking softly. “This will only hurt you more.”
You look up to her, eyes full of tears, like this could be an explanation or a full on answer your mouth can’t give her right now. But you’re not surprised when she doesn’t press you on it anymore, having read all that you wanted to say on your expression. It’s Lena, duh. You look back to the book, to stop yourself from crying the tears pooling on your eyes.
“About your suit-”
“I don’t need a new one.” Your tone doesn’t show any sign of pain as you say this. But you’re lying to yourself.
“Are you sure? I can make you one that is more comfortable. You can come to L Corp and-”
“I’m sure.” You stop her, before she keeps going. Then you mumble to yourself. “’M not worth it.”
“Hm?” She looks back at you. Laundry basket in hands, your clothes in it. “What was that?”
“I said I’m sure, mom.” She raises her eyebrows because she doesn’t believe you. “And I said thank you,” You point at her arms. “For the laundry.”
Lena comes back closer to you, leaning in to kiss the crown of your head. “Time, babygirl, just a little more.”
“Mhm, yeah. I got it.” You shuffle away from her touch and force your eyes back into the book so she can take the hint and leave. She does, and you can finally breathe out. Time can bite your ass.
Kara probably hates you now. Your whole life you’ve been helping nonstop, being good and kind and naïve. But now you’ve gone and blown the whole thing up so gut-wrenchingly fast, you fear everything you did all your life meant nothing.
The truth is, Kara is not not talking to you. But it’s also not what you’d expect at all. It’s like this distance you can feel between you both. Like the air gets heavier when you’re around and there’s a line you shouldn’t cross. You don’t know where she’s drawing the line, so you’ve been tip-toeing all around it, scared to rock the boat or pressure her in case this drives her far away. It’s a metaphorical tip toeing but also, somehow, not as much, when you find yourself secretly walking downstairs to eat when Kara’s not in the kitchen.
You miss her. Duh. Of course you do. She’s your momma. And your best friend. Which is why this whole situation has left you feeling like you’ve lost way too much. You miss her loud laughter, her singing, forehead kisses, and you mostly miss the words ‘little one’ out of her mouth.
But you also miss supering. Even though it is not something that you two always do together, it is something that never fails to make you feel closer to her.
You could get another suit. Lena has offered, and you’ve been thinking on getting one with pants for the longest time, but you know the crest would feel heavy in your chest. There are so many criterias you’re simply not meeting right now, to be considered a Super. Besides, how would Kara feel seeing you up there representing something she doesn’t believe you are anymore?
So, basically, you can sit around doing nothing, waiting for Kara to forgive you until kingdom come, or you can do what your body is aching to. Make things right.
You text your girlfriend and your cousin, asking to meet them. They both reply fast saying they’ll meet you at Jamie’s house. So you run downstairs, to find your moms in the living room.
“Ummm,” Is how you call their attention. They both look at you right away. “Can I go to Jamie’s? I’ll be back before dinner.”
“Yeah, baby! Go ahead, have fun!” Lena smiles at you, excited you’re taking her advice. You wait to see if Kara’s going to say something, but she just looks back to the TV.
“Alright then.” You leave quickly, pretending her lack of response didn’t hurt.
So you fly to Jamie’s house, get inside through her window, and tell them all of your new ideas. You see it on their faces a mix of shock and incredulity, but you go on, hoping they’ll get it and support you.
“Wait. You’re telling us you need a new suit?” Maya stops your long rant, looking at you, then back at Jamie. Both of them with their mouths open in shock.
“And you want our help?” Jamie completes.
“Different colors. No House of El crest. Maybe a mask or something.”
“Ok. Ok. Calm down.” Maya holds your hand, making you sit in front of her. “What’s wrong with your old suit?”
“Oh, I had to-You know, burn it.” Their eyes widened. “There was no washing! It’s not something so dramatic, it was just, I don’t know, its existence was taunting me.”
“Ok, but why don’t you ask your mom for a new suit? She’s been making Kara’ suits for ages. She made you the last one.” Jamie suggests.
“Didn’t you hear? No crest. No Super’s colors.” You breathe out heavily. “She won’t make something like that.” Actually, you don’t know what Lena would or wouldn’t do. What you know is that if you asked her about it, she would talk to Kara -because they tell each other everything-, and you would probably get more in trouble.
“What’s wrong with the crest?” Maya asks, softly. You sigh, putting your head down.
“There is nothing wrong with the crest. What’s wrong in this equation is me. I have to earn that crest again. I can’t wear it right now. I don’t deserve it.”
Maya squeezes your hand and speaks carefully. “You’re beating yourself down.”
Your reaction isn’t quite as soft. In fact, it is a loud snort. “For a reason.”
“You’re not supposed to be perfect!” You hear Jamie, and somehow, Alex too. Because your aunt told you the same thing.
But then you hear the words ‘I’m just having a hard time seeing you’. And you’re back at square one.
“Maybe. But it’s what I feel that I need to do. So, will you guys help me? With the design and everything? I’ll build it in the lab, I just don’t know what exactly I would wear without everything that made me, me.”
“We’ll help.” They say unison, and it doesn’t take long for the ideas to be flying around widely.
You let them go crazy with it. The only thing you beg them not to give you is a cape. But in the end, their design for your new suit is simple, but extremely elegant. They didn’t give you a mask, but settled for a hood, which you like way better now.
“What superpowers should I use?”
“Glad you asked. I’ve crafted this list over the years of your best superpowers.” You raise your eyebrows at Jamie, but she shrugs. “Don’t look so shocked. This is what the rest of us who don’t have powers do.”
“Alright. Let’s hear it.”
“The best one is nigh-invulnerability because you don’t have to control it. You just are. Then flight, for obvious reasons.” You agree with your head. She goes on counting positions on her fingers. “Super hearing, super strength, super speed, heat vision, cold breath, x-ray vision.”
“Yeah. I’m Maya, and I approve this message.” Your girlfriend says and you chuckle at her.
“I guess I’ll use super hearing to know what’s going on and flight and super speed to get there fast.”
“Oh! And you need one to fight.”
“No. No fighting. Just saving.”
They don’t say anything, but their faces say too much. They think you’re scared to fight and lose all control again, but you’re not. That’s not what this is. You know you won’t lose it again, because every pain and fury that was lodged inside of you, has left your body completely. You feel lighter than you ever felt before. The only time you felt this light was when you were still learning about your powers.
With the design in hand and your own lab, it’s easy to walk out of there with a new suit tucked in your backpack.
You’re back home before dinner, like promised. But with a secret heavy on your shoulders. You think to yourself this would be slightly like rocking the boat, and you almost give up the idea. Almost. Because when the three of you are having dinner while Lena tries to fill in the awkward silence; you hear it first. The loud cry for help. You get up from the chair two seconds before Kara, but when she does, you look up to her. Her face says nothing, but you hear everything quite loud.
“No suit.” You sit back, as an apology, and she’s out of the room without giving you another glance.
“I could-” Lena starts, you know where this is going so you shake your head in denial.
“She’s got it.”
It’s true. Kara got it. She always gets it. But now you understand how important it is for you to get it too. The boat is rocked. Wrecked, by the looks of it. So you might as well try to do something nice for everyone else.
So you do. You save. You work during the night when you know no one can see you. The suit helps you camouflage into the night, being almost entirely black.
Almost everything that you do is save. You help some people here and there, but some nights when you hear something really shady going on, then you just tip off someone. Most nights the police; and when it’s alien related, the DEO. They never know where the tip is coming, and you like that way.
You like the fact that you’re being able to help without anyone immediately connecting your face and suit to your name. You work in the shadows, no one knows who is helping, but you are, regardless. It feels incredibly satisfying and fulfilling to just help without getting any appraise for it.
You get a hold of what you’re supposed to do, and who you’re supposed to be pretty fast. It would be distinctly easier to just kick ass and take names with your own hands. But you like doing nothing more than just helping.
So you don’t fly. That would be extremely easy to associate with you. Freeze breath and heat vision even easier. Kara would know it’s you from miles and miles. Super hearing and super speed are basically all you use, but super strength also helps when you need to move heavier things.
“Supergirl, sorry to wake you-” You hear on your momma’s comm and you’re out the door before she can even get up. “We’re fighting this alien downtown, but there are a lot of civilians.”
You’re already moving the civilians as Brainy goes on.
“We would appreciate the help if you could come move them-”
“Brainy, look!” You hear Nia’s voice, watching people disappearing fast from their sights.
“Brainy?” You hear Kara’s voice from Brainy’s comm this time.
“Nevermind, Supergirl. It seems that we had help.”
“What?” You hear Kara’s sleepy voice getting more alert. “Whose help?”
“Couldn’t see.” It’s Nia who speaks into her own comm. “I only saw a-a shadow.”
You smile proudly as you move the last civilian out of the scene.
“Well, now we can give him hell!” Nia says as you rush back to your bedroom.
“Thanks Supergirl, for your, hm, not help. Goodnight!” Brainy says on the other side of the comm and you hear it perfectly, because you’re already home changing into your pajamas.
“Huh.” It’s what leaves Kara’s mouth.
“What is it, honey? Is everything alright?” Lena rolls in bed, and you hear her sleepy voice muffled on the pillow.
“Brainy needed help, but someone else got there faster.”
“Good for you!” Lena pats her arm. “More sleep.”
“Someone else…” Kara says to herself, and you let out a little fake snore while you roll around in your own bed. You can almost feel Kara using her x-ray vision to watch you, even though you have your eyes closed. “Fast asleep.”
“Hm?” Lena asks again.
“Never mind, my love.” You hear Kara shuffling in bed. “It’s nothing.”
You open one eye and look at your new suit tucked inside your bottom drawer and smile to yourself. You’ve got this.

Snow Blitz
Real name: Isabelle Rose Mahkent
Species: Metahuman
Hair: White
Eye color: blue
Family: Joar Mahkent (grandfather), unknown paternal grandmother (legal guardian), unknown mother, Cameron Mahkent (father)
Affiliation: Titans, Outsiders
Occupation: Vigilante, Bounty Hunter
Biography:
Isabelle was born to her father, Cameron Mahkent. She is also the granddaughter of Joar Mahkent. The identity of her mother is unknown, but she is also a metahuman through her father's ice powers. To avoid letting Isabelle being raised in prison, Cameron asked his mother (whom he had not seen in years) to take her in since he might be in Belle Reve for awhile.
Cameron was only allowed visitations due to his work within the Suicide Squad. Joar also has a soft spot for Isabelle and neither of them push her to commit crimes.
Later, Isabelle discovered her ice powers after being attacked by robbers who threatened her grandmother with a gun. This traumatic experience had awakened her powers as she freezes the robbers in the bank.
Isabelle and her grandmother had a talk. The young metahuman was told to never reveal her powers for fear she might end up a criminal like Cameron and Joar, or would be coerced into working with Warden Walker from Belle Reve. Her grandmother had thoughts about taking full custody of Isabelle to keep her away from her son and ex-husband.
Isabelle did not agree with this. But went along with it due to how close she is to her grandmother. Her grandmother wanted her only grandchild to live as a happy girl, but knew she is unlike any other human being. But Isabelle secretly practices her powers at night in order to keep them in control.
At the age of 9, Isabelle reached elementary school. But one of her male classmates asked about her white hair and said it was weird and tried to attack her. But before she can start a fight. A student named Jonny Kent, steps on and intervene, only to let himself be covered in paint and pushed to the canvases.
Later, after a rough day, Isabelle received a bad grade from a test. When Jonny introduced himself he noticed this and decided to help tutor her for the next one. As Isabelle gets to know Jonny, and was getting better at her grades, and felt better about her hair color after he told her that it was cool, it caused her to develop a crush on him. But it was rather unreciprocated. And was a bit jealous due to Jonny's close friendship with Kathy Branden.
At home, she watches the news about the Outsiders disbanding due to Lena Luthor being elected president of the US and banning vigilantes from intervening, much to her dismay because she is a fan of the Outsiders for advocating for young metahumans, even helped changed the lives of children of former villains. This driven Isabelle to become a vigilante with the mantle, Snow Blitz. Deciding that she wasn't going to let her family's criminal history define who she is.
Now 11, she is working on to reform the Outsiders. During one of her vigilante activities, Snow Blitz encountered Jonny again, this time he is taking the mantle of Superboy, saving him when Vengeance (the clone of Bane) was about to finish him.
Though happy to see him. Superboy told Snow Blitz to go home. This infuriates her, but it didn't stop there as later, she assisted Speedy to rescue Green Arrow after he was captured by Syonide and it ends with Speedy defeating Syonide and Snow Blitz capturing her associates with ice.
Personality:
Isabelle is a preteen who tried to find some purpose in life while being raised by her grandmother. She is aware of her family's criminal history, but accepts the fact since she loves her family, but chose not to commit any crimes.
Isabelle encourages her grandmother to have a talk with her son (Isabelle's father) since she had not seen him after Joar took him under his wing to become a supervillain.
But after discovering her ice powers, Isabelle decides to use them not for evil, but for good (which made her father proud because of his regrets of looking up to his father). In order to make a difference for herself being a fan of the Outsiders.
She became Snow Blitz since her life changed. Energetic and cheerful. Isabelle has a crush on Superboy (Jon Kent) since he treated her like a person, not as a daughter of a former villain. And because of this, she tried her best to impress him. But was jealous of his friendship with Kathy Branden, but knew there was nothing she can do.
But the fact that Superboy treated her like a friend, it was enough for Isabelle to feel enlighten, and will prove to the world that her family history will not define her.

Never I’ve ever. (Baby danvers reader x Lena Luthor.)
Summary : you’re secretly dating Lena for two months. You haven’t told your sisters (Kara and Alex) yet because you’re quite afraid of their reaction (because Lena is older and they are quite protective around you) even if Lena is okay with it, she respects your decision to wait. One day Maggie ran into the two of you making love. You made her swear to never tell anyone. She agreed but said that you have to tell your sisters, that they would completly undertand. Tonight is the night of revelation, you’re planning to tell your sisters, you and Lena are dating but you’re too afraid. So Maggie has got a devilish plan ! She is quite a tease you know.
Warnings : Gifs are not mine. Mention of sex.
Enjoy ;). If you want me writing prequel where Maggie surprises the reader and Lena making love, or a part two, let me know :).
Tumblr media
You were at the bar getting yours and Kara’s drinks and deep in your thoughts while the waiter was preparing them. You and Lena had planned to tell your sisters tonight, but you didn’t know how to bring the subject in the conversation. And you were scared of their reaction. You knew there wasn’t any reason to be, because, well they’re your sisters and you loved each others. Yet, you were sweating at the thought of it.
« So baby danvers ! » Maggie said making you jump. “Are you ready ?”
She had a smile on her lips. Clearly she was enjoying it very much. Too much according to you.
“No. I’m not. What if they tell Lena she is...”
“They won’t I can assure you.” She said putting a hand on your shoulder. There was a moment of silence as if she was thinking, then she spoke. “I may have an idea. Do you trust me ?”
“Yeah ?” You wasn’t sure about that.
Her smiled grown wide and it scared you a bit.
“What do you have in mind ?” you said.
“You’ll see little danvers !” She said as she returned at the table where Lena, your sisters, Winn, James and Mon El were sitting. You caught Lena’s glance at you and the smile she gave to you sent shivers in your spine and butterflies in your stomach. Yeah everything will be fine ! Then you saw Maggie winked at you and you had a bad feeling about all of this.
“A Virgin Mojito and a Martini.” said the bartender giving to you two glasses.
“Thank you !”
You paid and you returned to your table. Kara welcomed you with cheers as you had her drink.
“Thanks for the Mojito (Y/N). Even if alcool don’t really do anything to me, I must say this coktail is so delicious.”
You were about to sit between her and Alex but Maggie interrupted your move.
“Oh (Y/N) there’s room between me and Lena.”
You caught her wicked smile. What was on her mind ? You really started to worry. Then you sit between your almost sister in law and you secret girlfriend. Who discreetly entrelaced her fingers to yours under the table. Her soft touch was reassuring you as everyone started conversations.
“We should play a game !” Say Maggie suddenly.
“Yeah ! Great idea !” Winn agreed. “Wich one ?”
“How about : Never I’ve ever ?”
“Are you sure about that ?” asked Alex with a frown. “I don’t really want to see my baby sister drunk after two sips.”
“Hey !” you protested “I’m not that brittle. I can handle alcool !”
“Yeah... Do you remember when you danced on the table last time. You only drank two beers (Y/N)” said Kara apologetically.
And everyone in the table nodded, inclued Lena.
“Come on you two ! She is an adult ! Let her live !” Maggie defended you and you were suprised. You found by the look of her that this was the part of her plan. “This game will prove you that your baby danvers is not a baby anymore. So who begins ? (Y/N) ?”
“Okay.”
You thought for a moment before speaking again :
“Never I’ve ever lied to my parents.”
Everyone looked sternly at you.
“What ?”
“Seriously (Y//N) haven’t you got more boring question ?” said Winn.
“Okay, okay, let me think... Never I’ve ever come home so drunk that my baby sister has to lie to my parents about me getting sick to cover me.”
“I hate you (Y/N)” Alex said drinking one sip, shoting you a furious glance and you chuckled.
“Okay Lena your turn.” said Maggie.
“Never i’ve ever be mad in love with someone.”
“So cute.” Maggie commented and everyone drank. Lena caressing your hand and smiling at you. You smiled back getting her adorable message.
Winn and Mon El went next with some question. Then it was Kara’s turn.
“Never I’ve ever be afraid of high.”
“That’s easy for you, you can fly !” you groaned drinking with Winn. You sister stick her tongue at you.
“Never I’ve ever be a total baby when I am sick.” said Alex looking at you in the eyes.
You sighed. Your sisters were really annoying tonight.
“You guys plan to get me drunk or what ?”
And you drank.
“Ok, it’s my turn.” Said Maggie with the same wicked smile as ealier. “Never I ever had sex at work.”
Ok that wasn’t so bad, you thought. Then you saw Lena blush and drink one sip of her beer. Oh god. You remember now.
“Hahaha I knew  that Lena Luthor has a thing for office sex !” said Maggie.
Oh you have no idea you thought blushing too.
Then you saw James drink too.
“No way !” said Kara. “You ?!”
“Yeah... why not !” He told with a smirk.
Then it was your turn again.
“Never I’ve ever use my officer badge to have some free food.” you said.
“Fair” Maggie conceed with fairplay driking her vodka.
You knew what she was planning but you’re totally in. You hasn’t be the one to suffer. You will make her regret her stupid idea. You were deeply in thought and it was Maggie’s turn again. Her Wicked smile was wide as ever.
“Never I’ve ever call my girlfriend/boyfriend, Daddy during sex.”
You went pale, then red. No she hadn’t dare... you watched her with disbelief and she smirked at you. Then you heard Alex groan and say.
“Seriously baby... I didn’t need my sisters to know that” and she drank.
And Kara made a sound of disgust.
“Totally worth the look of your face” responded Maggie but looking at you not at her girlfriend.
She knew it of course, because when she caught you and Lena, she heard you. Oh God she promised never tell anyone. She was pure evil. You took you glass, hand trembling and face totally blushing and you drank earning silence at the table as everyone stared at you, mouth open.
“... and I totally didn’t want to know that about my baby sister.” added Alex still in shock.
“Me neither” murmured pale Kara. “ And I even can’t drink enough to make me forget about it.”
You were mortified and after your turn, Lena decided to avenge you.
“Never I’ve never promising my friends that I would help themp and get to tease them at the end.” She said, looking Maggie in the eyes.
Still, the inspector smiled and drink after murmuring that this was still totally worth it.
A complete turn passed and then this was at Maggie again. And you knew what she was goign to say.
“ Never I’ve ever be called daddy by my boyfriend/girlfriend during sex.” And she drank starring again at Lena who drank after her.
“What ?!” Alex almost screamed looking between you and Lena as she seemed to understand.
“ Oh I didn’t know you were a top Lena” Said Kara totally oblivious at the revelation.
“Kara... you don’t understand.” Alex told her.
“What ?”
“And i’m going to ask a second question, because that’s my game and I do everything I want : Never I’ve never be, and still be, in love realtionship with someone at the table.”
Kara, Mon El, Alex and her drank and then, Alex and her looked at you. You turn you head towards Lena.
“Cheers ?” she said with her glass up.
“Cheers...” you murmured and then drank with her.
There were a silence as everyone figured out what juste happened and Maggie was smiled at you.
“Wait... (Y/N) and Lena are together ?” realised Kara. “Like a couple ?”
Everyone nodded.
“That’s great !” She said smiling at each of you.
“Yeah this part is great.” Conceed Alex. “Kara... you DO realise that we’ve just learnt that our babysister and Lena had a dady kink in bed ?!”
“I told you she wasn’t a baby anymore.” Said Maggie with a smile. “Job’s done little danvers.”
“Ahd how do you know about this ?” asked Alex suspciously.
“Well...” sarted Maggie.
“NO !” Lena interrupted her. “You don’t want to know about it Alex.”
Kara and Alex looked at each others.
“Well... I think i’m going to get drunk to forget about the daddy kink part, but i am happy about you two. Really. I love you (Y/N) and I’m happy you choose someone as lovely as Lena.”
“Yeah we are.” said Kara “Cheers to the two lovebirds.”
Everyone cheers you up and Lena kissed you tenderly.
“I knew everything was going to be fine.” She said to you. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” You answered. “And I think it’s my turn.”
You looked at Maggie.
“Never I’ve ever used my handcuff in bed.”
“You’re dead little danvers” she said drinking again.
“Payback is a bitch Sawyer”.

Halloween Lunch Date
Hey everyone! I hope you enjoy the little fic I wrote for the @supercorpbb Halloween/Fall Event! I ended up using three of the prompts from the list: Pumpkin spice debate, Lena sees Kara wearing a plaid button-up with the sleeves rolled up for the first time and loses her damn mind, and Couple’s costumes. Although, if truth be told, none of the themes are that front and center. This was really just an excuse to write some Supercorp fluff since the last thing I wrote was pretty angsty! Hope everyone enjoys it!
Read it on AO3!
A sudden, deep yawn escaped Lena, knocking her out of the deep state of concentration that she had been in for the last three hours. The CEO of L-Corp’s hand shot up to her mouth in an attempt to stifle a second wave of yawns. Once they were under control, she leaned back in her office chair and rubbed her eyes. She had been staring at her laptop all morning, tearing through report after report in a desperate attempt to get ahead of her seemingly neverending workload, and she was feeling it in every inch of her body.
Lena’s stomach let out a rumble, its angry attempt at reminding the woman that it disagreed with Lena’s decision to skip lunch. It was the third skipped lunch in a row, and her stomach seemed to be on the verge of a mutiny, calming only slightly as she took a gulp of water from a glass she had been nursing for the past hour.
Seemingly as if she had heard the cries from Lena’s stomach, Supergirl touched down gently on the balcony of Lena’s office. The Luthor heard her before she saw her, the unmistakable crunch of the hero’s boots tapping against her balcony’s concrete. There was a time, early in their relationship, when the uncontrollable expression of glee that instantly covered her face was something Lena fought with, embarrassed by her inability to contain herself.
Those days ended months ago, and the Luthor excitedly spun around in her chair, her own bright smile matching the blinding one her girlfriend was shooting her way as Supergirl stepped into the office. “Kara!” Lena drawled out, letting each letter slowly fall from her mouth breathlessly. With one smooth motion, Lena pushed herself up from her chair and cleared the short distance between the two.
Supergirl, one hand carrying a white paper bag, and the other hand balancing a cup carrier holding two drinks, spread her arms out, allowing Lena’s arms to easily wrap around the Girl of Steel’s waist. Before Kara could respond, she found that her lips were already busy with Lena’s, who had wasted no time pulling the Kryptonian into a kiss.
Within seconds, Lena could the aches of her day draining away, replaced with the warmth and softness of the blonde woman that was enthusiastically returning her kiss. They pulled apart after a few more seconds with a gasp, each pulling back just enough to stare into each other’s eyes.
“Love of my life,” Kara murmured with a giant grin on her face. It had become her favorite way to greet the Luthor of the past few weeks, after reading what had apparently been a particularly convincing fortune cookie fortune. Lena giggled, slapping Kara lightly across her chest. The phrase had grown on the raven-haired woman, and secretly, she desperately hoped it was accurate, but she still felt the need to at least pretend to resist the lofty implications of the saying.
“To what do I owe the pleasure?” Lena hummed, her hands resting on Supergirl’s chest.
“Well,” Kara chirped, “I finally turned in that article that Andrea’s been badgering me about, meaning that I get the afternoon off!” The blonde held up the contents in her hands. “And I thought it’d be fun to bring my girlfriend lunch.” The Kryptonian’s smile twisted into some sort of smug smirk as her brows furrowed. “Especially since it’s almost three and I somehow doubt you’ve eaten since I saw you this morning.”
Lena took a step back and scoffed, clutching her chest with mock outrage.
“Don’t even try,” Kara responded, rolling her eyes. “You’ve come home famished every night this week! You ate three slices of pizza last night!”
“You ate an entire pizza yourself,” Lena shot back.
“Okay, yeah, but I always eat an entire pizza, you usually can’t even finish two slices. Besides,” Kara leaned in, grinning as she jostled the bag in her hand, “I got you that smoke salmon bagel that you love.”
“On a whole wheat bagel?” Lena asked, the hopefulness in her voice obvious. Kara just beamed and nodded. An ear to ear smile grew on Lena’s face as she cupped Kara by the cheeks. “You really are my favorite person,” Lena mused, pulling Kara into another kiss.
The end of the kiss was sudden. Lena tugged herself free and snatched the bag before Kara even knew what was happening. The raven-haired woman stood there, clutching the bag greedily, a sheepish smile on her face. “Okay, maybe I am hungry.” As if to drive the point home, a needy gurgle erupted from Lena’s stomach, causing the Luthor to blush.
Kara couldn’t contain her laughter. She pulled one of the paper cups out of the carrier and handed it to the woman in front of her. “And one soy lavender tea latte to go with it,” Kara smiled. “Think you can take a break long enough to eat with your girlfriend?”
The Luthor stepped around Supergirl, planting a kiss on her shoulder as she passed. “Go change first,” she purred into the Kryptonian’s ear. Lena’s hair kicked up from the blowback of Kara zooming away to the private washroom attached to the office.
It was a quick scamper over to the white couch on the other side of the office for Lena, who set the bag down on the coffee table as soon as she reached it. By that time, Kara was already emerging from the washroom, her hair pulled back into a ponytail, and loosely tucked into her black denim jeans was a hunter-green and black flannel button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up halfway up her forearms. The top few buttons of the shirt remained unbuttoned, open just enough to expose her collarbones and get a peek at the rim of the tank top she was wearing underneath. The raven-haired woman rose the cup to her lips, positioning the opening in the lid in front of her, and let it hover there, obscuring the hungry grin on her face.
Lena really enjoyed the fall.
Eyes still fixed on watching her girlfriend saunter towards her, Lena absently took a sip from her drink. It was an instant regret. She grimaced, her entire face scrunching up and she swallowed.
At the sight of her girlfriend struggling, Kara quickened her pace, closing the remaining distance in an instance.
“Darling,” Lena coughed, “are you sure they gave you the right order?”
Kara took the drink from Lena, gave it a sniff, then sipped it herself. A happy hum escaped her. “Ah, I see,” she mumbled and handed the other cup that she had been carrying. “Here, try this one.”
What started as an experimental sip turned into a good chug. “Much better,” Lena said, taking a seat on the couch.
“Sorry, handed you mine by mistake,” Kara admitted as she plopped down next to Lena, their knees knocking against each other playfully. She set her cup down and began unpacking their lunch: smoked salmon on a whole wheat bagel with a dill spread, tomatoes, capers, and red onions for Lena, and a bacon grilled cheese sandwich, triple the bacon, for Kara.
“What was that?” Lena asked, a single eyebrow raised over her confusion at how Kara could delight in whatever that concoction was supposed to be.
“Pumpkin spice latte,” Kara chirped just before chomping down on her sandwich.
The answer only made Lena’s confusion grow. “That’s what a pumpkin spice latte tastes like?” she asked incredulously.
The blonde’s eyes went wide as she turned to Lena. “You’ve never had a pumpkin spice latte?!” she spit out through a mouth full of cheese, bread, and bacon.
“The idea of pumpkin in my coffee never sounded appealing to me, but that doesn’t even taste anything like pumpkin!”
Kara just shrugged as she took another sip of her coffee. “They make it sweeter so the flavors mix well with the coffee.”
“Well, they failed at that,” Lena flatly stated.
“Sweetie, it’s one of the most popular drinks in the world,” Kara countered with a chuckle.
“We’ve failed as a society,” Lena responded instantly. Kara busted out laughing, flopping back into the couch and twisting so that her face was buried into Lena’s shoulder. “I need to dedicate more funding into nutritional health initiatives,” she added, causing a fresh round of laughter from her girlfriend.
Slowly, Kara pulled herself back up. “Lena, sweetie, don’t you think you’re being just a little overdramatic?”
Lena snapped her head up so that her chin was pointed high in the air. “I am a Luthor, after all, we are nothing if not dramatic,” she retorted, barely able to contain a snicker. Kara couldn’t help but laugh at her girlfriend’s silliness for a moment before she really took in the sight of Lena in front of her. In her dramatic “proper pose, Lena’s neck was on full display, and Kara didn’t spend much time resisting before pouncing.
They crashed into the back of the couch, Lena giggling uncontrollably as her girlfriend was straddling her lap, suckling on her pale skin. “Vampire! Vampire!” the Luthor cried out, unable to contain her enjoyment.
After a moment Kara came up for air. “Oooh, we could be vampires for Halloween,” Kara suggested as she sat comfortably on Lena. The Luthor shook her head.
“Too basic,” Lena replied. “It’s our first couples’ costume, it needs to be a little more inspired.” Kara sat up and rubbed her chin, clearly deep in thought. Lena pushed herself up and planted another kiss onto Kara. “Don’t worry, we’ll think of something,” she murmured against Kara’s lips. Her arms snaked around Kara, her hand gripping at her back. “But right now, I think I’d rather focus on enjoying my lunch break with my girlfriend.”
Kara leaned forward and hummed. “Yeah, I think we can do that,” she breathed before pushing Lena back down.
---
Nia was scurrying to her door as fast as she could, taking care not to catch her fairy wings on anything. Only half the guests had arrived and already her Halloween party was loud and raucous. It had made the knocking hard to hear, hence her scurrying. As she reached the door she made a mental note to post a sticky note on the outside telling people to just enter.
Taking just a second to catch her breath and compose herself, Nia swung the door open, a big smile ready to greet whoever it was. As soon as she laid eyes on Kara and Lena she let out a hearty laugh.
Kara held up her little, plastic shield and beamed. “Cap and Iron Man, pretty great, right?” the Kryptonian boasted. Lena shifted next to her, a light blush on her face as she held her helmet in her hands.
“It’s perfect!” Nia bellowed, wrapping both into a hug. “Come on you two, it’s time for candy and booze!” she yelled, ushering them into her apartment.

1. Leaves
Lena was, in all honesty, having the time of her life. Since they’d arrived here, she had finally relaxed. Really relaxed. Lex was gone. Capital-G Gone. The last of Cadmus had been mopped up. The Conpany was no longer a problem- L-Corp was being sold off, from entire divisions down to sales of old office chairs. The Estate and nine-tenths of the family holdings were all being sold off, and the money quietly funneled into a holding company. Sam Arias would manage Lena’s wealth.
Lena had nothing to do anymore, and it was glorious. She’d done what she’d never done in her entire life: rest. She ate when was hungry, slept when she was tired. She stayed up late finishing a thriller novel she’d grabbed off one of Kara’s tables and slept it off the following day. She could do whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted, so one day she said, “Let’s go watch the leaves change.”
“Not much of that in National City,” Kara had said, not looking up from her laptop.
Lena was flipping channels when she made the suggestion, another pedestrian activity that had been too far beneath her to ever indulge during her CEO days.
“I’m serious,” said Lena. “I’ll rent us a cabin, book a flight, and we’ll be there by tomorrow morning. Vermont, or maybe New Hampshire.”
Kara looked up. “I could just fly us.”
“Short distances only,” said Lena.
Kara weighed it for a moment. She looked at Lena for a drawn out instant, eyes darting this way and that. Lena knew she had a deadline; she had become privy to the details of Kara’s life ever since she started couch surfing at Kara’s place after dumping her chic penthouse on some petroleum heir from the Emirates.
She had been “crashing” at Kara’s place for three months and had her own key, but they weren’t talking about it. Lena had remained on the couch, falling asleep to YouTube videos of molten lava and cat purring sounds, while Kara puttered around the house.
There were moments of tension. Pauses during shared meals. Moments when they pressed closed on sofa, times when Kara got up to go to bed and Lena felt this yearning to follow that she never quite obeyed.
Kara was thinking. Hard.
“Rent a cabin?”
“Yeah, someplace remote. So you can take a break. You’ve been working harder than ever, Darling. It almost feels like you’re avoiding me.”
Kara swallowed. “Okay,” she said. “We’ll fly. The regular way.”
They did, arriving in Maine less than a day later. Lena rented a Land Rover (because they were on an Adventure) and did all the driving, three hours from the airport to the cabin.
Kara rode in silence, though Lena heard her gasp.
The trees were beautiful. They were alive with color, as if an impressionist master had made the world a canvas and run riot. It was more than a mass of reds and yellows and oranges. It was astonishing.
It was dark when they arrived at the cabin. Lena had chosen one with two bedrooms, though she hesitated when she did. It had a full kitchen with a gas stove and all the amenities but also a fire pit and picnic table and gazebo, and overlooked a private swath of a small lake. It was like something out of a Bob Ross painting.
They were both tired from the flight, or at least Lena was, and turned in right away. When she rose the next day, she cheerily told her cabin-mate she was headed into town to get some supplies.
Kara went out to chop wood. Lena, of course, watched a few swings before leaving. Kara didn’t really need an axe but Lena didn’t care; she was preoccupied watching the muscles of Kara’s shoulders and back as she swung the splitting maul.
Lena got back before noon and carried the groceries inside, enough for her to use the fancy kitchen to prepare a mighty feast for her companion.
She didn’t hear the sobs until she had most of it put away. Lena bolted to the back door and stopped.
Kara was sitting on the picnic table, feet resting on the long board that acted as a seat. She was holding a single golden leaf on her hand, studying it and sobbing softly to herself.
“Kara?”
She looked up, soft blue eyes wet with tears. Lena felt a wave of grief but also panic, rushing to the table.
“Kara, what’s wrong?”
“I,” Kara started. “Lena, I’m scared.”
Lena swallowed hard. “Why?”
Kara looked at the leaf. “Another year past. The leaves turn colors and fall, school starts, things change.”
“I don’t understand.”
“Alex is married now. They’ve got a kid to raise. Nia and Brainy will probably get married soon. We hadn’t had a game night in two months.”
Lena swallowed. Kara was right. When Lena had first joined, then rejoined, this wonderful found family had been aggressively social, and now they forgot to text as often as not. They all spent more time at home or at their real jobs than at the Tower. The world had just started moving on. Kara didn’t even wear the cape every day anymore.
“I know,” said Lena, her voice thick. “But you’ve got me.”
Lena felt her pulse start to race. Kara had been so distant, she couldn’t help wonder if she was enough. If boring, retired Lena wasn’t enough. Oh God, what if Kara was thinking about going to Argo? Or the future?
“Not forever,” said Kara, her voice cracking like glass. She let the leaf drop from her fingers. “Eventually you’ll go. All of you. Brainy, Nia, Alex, Clark if he doesn’t come back from Argo. You.”
“Oh,” Lena said, softly. “Oh, Kara.”
“I think I might be immortal,” Kara whispered. “I don’t feel any aches or pains. Nothing about me changes. I don’t forget things like people do. My body just keeps repairing itself and it never makes any mistakes. What if I’m just like this forever? Or even a thousand years? What if everyone is gone and their kids are gone and no one knows who I am anymore?!” she was frantic now, the words coming too fast.
Lena reached out, tentatively. She put her hands on Kara’s shoulders and pulled herself in, wrapping her best friend in a hug.
Birds chirped, the waters of the lake made soft glug-glugs, and all around them was the soft tapping sound of the leaves, already letting go.
“I won’t leave you,” Lena whispered. “Kara, I won’t. If I have to live forever I will. I’ll find a way. Tech, magic, fifth dimensional imps. I’ll find a way.”
Kara sighed, arms firmly around her.
“Do you need space?” Lena asked. “I could leave you alone for a bit. Look for a place when we get back, so I’m not on the couch all the time.”
“I don’t want you to leave,” Kara blurted, almost cutting her off. “I know I’ve been distant, it’s just… I keep looking at you and thinking about all the time I’ve lost and all the mistakes I’ve made and how I’ll regret it forever. We have so little time and I’m so scared I’ll lose you.”
Lena pulled back to look at her. “We have a long time to make more memories. As many as we can.”
“I’ll lose you too,” said Kara. “I know you want more. A family, a partner. You’ll start to have less time for me. You’ll all just fall away and I’ll be stuck here alone.”
“That’s not going to happen.”
“How can you say that?”
Kara started to pull away. Lena stopped her with a tug on her arms. It stunned her, sometimes, how she could overpower a god with her tiny human hands. How she could stun the other whirlwind or a touch.
“Kara,” said Lena. “I don’t want someone else. I want you.”
“Me?” Kara squeaked.
Lena cleared her throat. “I wanted to tell you at the wedding. I mean, I didn’t dress like that and go stag for the hell of it. I just lost my nerve and you seemed so overwhelmed.”
Kara blinked a few times.
“You want me?” said Kara.
Lena felt a cold rush of terror. She’d just blurted it out, artlessly, unplanned.
“Like want me want me? Like kissing want me?”
Lena licked her lips. “Yes. I’d like to kiss you right now, if you let me.”
Kara settled back into the table, leaning forward. Lena leaned in, pushing her back slightly, moving her hands from shoulders to hips, scoring the way Kara tensed and trembled. She was hardly inexperienced, Lena knew, but something about this felt like a first kiss, even for her. It tasted like one, too, down to the quivery way their lips met.
Kissing quickly became something more. Lena didn’t know if she was pulling or Kara pushing. It didn’t much matter; the path led to the bed in Kara’s room, marked by a trail of shed clothing.
Years of anticipation overwhelmed them both; dinner was forgotten, and they didn’t even emerge until the next day.
It was in the morning sun, the light turning Kara’s skin gold, that Lena saw it. Twisted within one of the curling locks of hair, splayed around Kara’s head on the pillow, was a faintly visible thread of purest silver, chased through the gold like an engraver’s masterpiece. Lena couldn’t help but twirl the errant strands around her finger.
As Kara slept, she looked up through the window and watched the wind as it caressed the leaves.

Note
theres a theory i've seen going through twitter saying that lena may have left a secret note in the book!! (i assume u saw the sneak peak?) and AHGGG can you IMAGINE!! it would be too good to be true!!!
Oh dear anon, I CAN imagine…
After Kara watches Lena walk away, she places the book off to the side of her desk. She tries to focus on work, but after an hour she surrenders to the fact that Lena is the only thing on her mind. So Kara packs her things and goes home.
Settling into her couch, Kara opens “Going on Being” and a letter immediately falls into her lap. Curious, but slightly scared, she gingerly unfolds it.
Kara,
I don’t quite have a way with words, they way you do, and I’m not sure what awkward and robotic sentences I’ll muster in your presence, so this note holds everything I’m sure I cannot articulate...
I am truly so, so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose the ones we love, even if the relationships weren’t always smooth sailing. In my own life, I’ve lost Lionel, Lex (albeit for a rather brief time), and my real mother. You weren’t around for those losses, but you were there for me with flowers, open arms, and kind words when Jack passed. I couldn’t be there for you when Krypton was destroyed, and I acknowledge how nothing could possibly compare to that pain you felt. But I’d like to be here for you now, in any capacity you’ll allow me.
As Supergirl, you once mentioned how you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders. I can’t imagine bearing that weight and all the loss alone. You may have the powers of a god on Earth, but not even you should attempt the role of Atlas. Perhaps I can help you bear it now that I know the truth…
Kara exhales, remembering how Lena only ever looked at her with awe for her accomplishments. She never found Kara's, or Supergirl’s, grief and burden beautiful. She knew Lena would have stood by her side. While the first half of the letter mirrored what Lena had said in person, nothing could prepare Kara for the second bit.
I’m not angry anymore. I’m just hurt.
I miss you. I miss us. I miss the way you used to look at me and the way my lungs would fill when I saw your smile. I miss feeling as if the world’s opinion didn’t matter, because Kara Danvers believed in me. On this new Earth, the public views me as a hero. But you called me a villain. I’d switch back in a heartbeat if I could.
I know I can’t. All I can do is finish non nocere. Despite your adamant belief that I’m trying to control people, its sole purpose is to remove our innate ability to hurt others. Something even I am guilty of. Therefore, it’s only fair I test the project on myself tonight. I need the pain we’ve caused each other to stop. The pain that, in all honesty, cuts so deep because I think you have always been more than just a friend to me. Interpret that as you will, I suppose.
Even while we are at odds, I’m with you. Always.
-Lena
Kara’s head rings with Lena’s last sentence and the word “always” looping on repeat. She looks towards the window, towards L-Corp, and panics when she realizes the sun has set. Not wasting a millisecond to change into her super suit, she simply tears through the darkening sky in her Kara Danvers attire.
When she lands on Lena’s balcony, the Luthor asks why the hell she flew without her suit. Kara responds with “It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve risked my identity for you,” and proceeds to divulge what really happened the day Lena drank cyanide-laced coffee.
“Why would you do that for me?” Lena asks.
Kara steps closer, hand reaching for Lena’s and responds, “In all honesty, you have always been more than just a friend to me, too. And I’ve been fooling myself thinking otherwise.”
A few moments of silence and prolonged eye contact pass, then Lena sets down non nocere and takes Kara’s hand. Without a word, Kara pulls Lena closer, engulfing her in an inhumanly warm embrace. It’s the contact they have both secretly been craving since their fight at the Fortress of Solitude, and neither wants it to end.
Finally, Lena pulls away, only to look into Kara’s bright eyes and confirm this moment is real. Her gaze drops to the Kryptonian’s soft smile, then trails back up. Kara whispers “I love you Lena,” before their lips meet.

Family Matters (Lena Luthor & Daughter!Reader)
Tumblr media
Request: Lena’s daughter comes back from the future, but Lena is having trouble accepting that she is her daughter because of her own insecurities regarding family
Fandom: Supergirl
Warnings: /
Word Count: 2279 (holy moly this one got away from me)
Time travel, you come to realize quickly, is a painful and exhausting affair. Just imagine your body, your atoms, your thoughts, restrained by some kind of invisible force, being rendered still while years and a decade of time condensed to a single moment screech past you like a high-speed train through a tunnel. Colours burst behind your eyes and your ears ring with every sound at once, and you feel like you’re dying.
Then, as abruptly as it started, it stops. The noise breaks off so suddenly you wonder if you’ve gone deaf, but then, a familiar woman’s voice rings out: “You really shouldn’t be here!”
It didn’t work.
That’s the first thought that pops into your head. It didn’t work, it was all for nothing, and now you’re going to be in so much trouble. Also, you have the feeling you might faint very soon.
“Mom?” you ask, your voice trembling. You try to blink in the direction of the voice, but the afterimage of whatever it was you saw while traveling seems to have been burned into your retinas, leaving dark blots in your vision.
You hear steps, and the voice is closer this time and softer, the tone less alarmed. “Are you lost, sweetheart? Do you need me to find someone for you?”
“Mom, I’m sorry I used your –“
That’s as far as you get before your knees give out. You barely have time to brace yourself for the impact on the hard, cold, sterile tiles lining the floor. The pain never comes. Steady arms catch you before you reach the ground, holding you secure. You can hear her speak, ask you questions, but you can’t make sense of the words. You feel like you’ll vomit if you open your mouth. You feel her slowly, and gently placing you down on the ground, propping you up onto your side.
Time passes.
You think you can hear her talk again, the words fading in and out of dull static like a radio with a broken antenna: “I’m not hurt…they just appeared out of nowhere…might be concussed…Kara, they keep calling me mom…”
Later, you’re being picked up again, cradled in strong arms, and there’s the howling of wind in your ears. You know this feeling. Kara has taken you out for semi-secret flights more than once, even though your mom didn’t initially approve. Kara, you think, and instinctively burrow deeper into her arms. You’re safe. Mom’s here, Kara is here, and you’re safe.
Then there’s nothing for a long time.
When you wake up, you’re somewhere warm, soft and bright. You blink against the light and sit up cautiously. It doesn’t hurt. You’re still exhausted, you feel like your mind has run a marathon, but other than that you’re okay. As soon as you’ve managed to prop yourself up on your elbows, there’s a gentle but insistent hand on your shoulder pushing you back down.
“Take it easy there, kiddo.”
You grin at the woman, who you’ve instantly recognized as Aunt Alex, and your grin widens when you see the two people behind her: Kara, and your mom.
“I’m fine, Alex” you try to reassure her, only to watch her gape at you in utter confusion. Kara’s and mom’s expressions soon come to mirror hers.
“How do you know my name?” she asks, forehead crinkled.
Oh. So it did work. You really did travel back in time, back to when you weren’t even born yet. Now that you know, it seems obvious to you: They all seem younger, the bags under Kara’s eyes aren’t so deep, and the grey streaks in your mom’s hair are missing.
“Okay, don’t freak out, you guys”, you start, already knowing that they were going to freak out. “But my name is (Y/F/N) Luthor, and I’m from the future, and…” you turn to look at your mom, she’s gone even paler than she already is, and she’s shaking her head almost imperceptibly.
“…and you’re my mom.”
The news drops into the room like a grenade. You can see Kara hide a gasp behind a hand quickly clasped over her mouth; you can see Alex try and fail to school her expression in order to not let on just how surprised she is. But worst of all, you can see your mom’s face turn to stone, cold and unmoving. And it hurts, oh, does it hurt. You’ve never seen her look at you like this before, like you’re some alien thing she doesn’t even recognize. Whenever you’ve looked into her eyes you’ve found nothing but love there, even when you messed up bad, even when she was upset with you, but now…there’s just none of that there. It makes you shrink back into your bed.
“We’re going to have to ask you some more questions and probably do some testing, just to be on the safe side”, Alex tells you. You just nod. You feel so tired all of a sudden, so small and lost in a world that isn’t yours. You close your eyes again and hope this is all a bad dream.
It isn’t, of course. You sit through Aunt Ale- no, just Alex’s tests. They don’t find anything physically wrong with you, and the dizziness and nausea are abating slowly.
“Do you know how to get back?” Alex asks you, the worried crinkle between her brows not having left for a second while she was tending to you. You nod.
“The prototype has a safety net function. It pulls you back into your time automatically if you don’t return in three days. I heard mom…I heard Lena mention it when she showed off her time machine to Kara.”
“(Y/N), you can’t just mess with one of Lena’s inventions, especially if it’s just a prototype. You could get seriously hurt! What if the safety net doesn’t work and you become stuck here?”
“I won’t”, you reply, your voice sure and steady as stone. “Mo- Lena is too smart to forget to add the function. And I wasn’t just messing around with the time machine!” you add as you see Alex get ready to argue. “I have a mission.”
Alex looks aghast. “Who would send a child on a mission to the past?!” she exclaims.
“Myself! I have a message for Lena. It’s really important.”
“Oh, sweetheart”, Alex says in the tone adults reserve for telling children that their pet just died. “I don’t think Lena is…in the right headspace to talk to you.”
You swallow. You know it’s not fair to this Lena, you have no right to her time, but the way she can’t even stand to be in the same room with you…does this mean you were not wanted? Did she hate the idea of you and just force herself to stick around because you were her responsibility? You can feel tears burn in your eyes.
“It’s important though!” you hear yourself whining. You know how childish you must sound, and you cringe a t the thought.
Alex looks at you, contemplating. “Can I just pass the message on for you?”
You shake your head. “It’s personal.”
A deep sigh. Then: “I’ll bring you to her so you can deliver your important message, but I can’t guarantee she’ll want to listen, alright?”
“Thank you, Alex”, you say, fighting the urge to hug her. This is not your Aunt Alex, you have to remind yourself. “Can we pick up spring rolls and curry sauce from the Chinese place on 27th? They’re her favourite, and I think it should…exist already.”
“Okay, kiddo”, Alex says as you’re about to enter L-Corp. “If this goes poorly, I need you to know…Lena doesn’t hate you, and I know the Lena you know as your mom loves you very, very much. She’s just overwhelmed, and to be honest…I think she’s scared.”
“Of me?” you balk.
“Not of you, squirt. I think she’s scared of being a bad parent.”
“She’s not”, you insist.
“I know, kiddo, but our fears aren’t always rational.”
Security lets Alex through without raising a fuss, but you get a lot of curious looks. You wave at Jess at the reception desk before you realize that she doesn’t know you yet, and she’s never secretly passed you cookies when mom wasn’t looking yet.
Jess lets you through anyways. Lena greets Alex with a tired smile, and you try to remind yourself that she doesn’t hate you, she’s just scared, but it’s hard to believe it when you see that smile drop as soon as Lena lays eyes on you.
“Kiddo has something important to tell you”, Alex tells her, “we won’t take up much of your time, but…hear her out, okay? I’m just going to wait outside.”
You watch as Alex leaves the room, and nerves threaten to take you over again. It’s ridiculous, this is your own mom, you shouldn’t be nervous to talk to her!
“I brought you spring rolls”, is all you manage to say.
“I don’t eat fast food”, Lena answers, and her voice sounds practiced, almost robotic. She’s shuffling some documents around on her desk to avoid eye contact with you.
“That’s not true!” You flinch at the volume of your own voice. “You always eat fast food when Kara brings some by your office, and you also don’t complain during game night when all we have is pizza!”
Lena’s fingers stop fidgeting with the paperwork. There’s a moment of complete silence.
“You really are my daughter.” It’s not a question. It sounds like resignation. Your heart sinks into your stomach.
“I’m sorry that’s not what you wanted”, you whisper. Lena whips around so fast you freeze where you stand before you can even turn to leave.
“(Y/N), that’s not…I just…” Another pause. Lena pinches the bridge of her nose.
“The truth is, (Y/N)… I’m terrified.”
“Of me?”
She heaves a sigh, and finally turns to face you. She looks old, older than your mum, even without the grey streaks in her hair and crow’s feet around her eyes.
“Come sit on the sofa with me?”
She doesn’t need to ask twice, you immediately clamber onto the pristine white couch (so that’s what it looked like without the various crayon stains you had made when you were a toddler and your mom had given up on cleaning, opting instead to just cover them with decorative pillows). You’re sitting about as far from one another as is physically possible on this couch, but at least Lena’s acknowledging you, facing you. You’re getting somewhere.
“(Y/N), I don’t know what your mom told- what I will have told you about my parents, but the Luthors were terrible people, and even worse parents. I can’t remember any happy days under their roof, I can’t – I don’t think there was one moment where I wasn’t depressed, or terrified, or ashamed of my mistakes or myself while I was in their care and I’m just so scared that in the end, I turned out no different than they were because I don’t know anything else. And I’m so, so sorry if I was a bad mom to you, if I was ever neglectful or aloof, and you have every right to be mad at me –“
You scoot towards her and hug her. Of course you know who mom’s family are, even if she hadn’t told you, the rest of the world was sure not to let you forget, and even though you didn’t know any details you were aware of how terrible your mother’s childhood had been, so it’s important to you that your mom doesn’t for one second longer think that she’s anything like the people who abused her throughout her childhood and well into adulthood.
“I love you”, you murmur into the embrace. “And you’re nothing like them. You’ve always protected me and no matter how busy you were; you were always there for me when I needed you. And you tell me about your work and show me your newest inventions and you weren’t even angry with me when I spilt a glass of apple juice over your transistor!”
You hear her sniffle as she hugs you tight. Her voice is hoarse when she speaks next: “I was terrified that you’d come to tell me what a horrible parent I was, and how selfish it was of me to decide to have children.”
“You’re the best mom I could have hoped for”, you reassure her. But her words remind you that you are indeed here for a reason.
“Do you want to know why I’m really here?”
She lets go of you with a final squeeze, wiping tears off of her cheeks, carefully leaving her makeup intact.
“Of course. You’re not in trouble in the future, are you?” For the first time since you arrived in this time, she reminds you of your mom. You can’t help but smile widely at the sight.
“No, it’s nothing like that. The government is putting together a team to engineer a cure for cancer once and for all, but you weren’t on the team because you gave up on your cancer research years ago, but you looked so defeated when you talked about it… I just wanted to tell you not to give up, and that you’re going to do lots of great stuff in the future!”
“Cancer research, huh? With all that’s happened, I didn’t think it would be curing cancer I’d become most famous for. But I’m glad. Thank you, sweetheart.”
You beam at her, proudly.
“Can we eat spring rolls now?”
“We certainly can. I’ve actually never had these, where are they from?”
“Oh, you’re going to love them!”

I have another prompt for my dear! please could i have a college au where cat and kara are room mates who are secretly dating and Cat’s parents surprises them. please can you include the line “for gods sake put on some pants kara.” NC x
It took FOREVER to finish this (one night, one day and almost half another night) but I hope you like it. It’s full AU, Cat & Kara are about the same age in this fic (around 23 & 25yo probably), I took a lot of liberties (Cat might feel a little OOC, I’m not happy about it but since they’re young ... why not?) and I added a twist at the end for the actual line of the prompt. Careful, it’s rated E Thanks NASCAR anon for this prompt!
“It’s perfect!”
Kara’s excitement echoes in the apartment.
“Of course it is! I lived here, until a week ago …” Lois replies, sounding amused. “Now, the thing you have to know about this perfect, cheap rent-controlled, three-bedrooms apartment with the real pine-wooden floor, the high ceilings, the many windows that let in as much sunlight as possible …”
Kara narrows her eyes at her friend, sensing that there’s a catch coming.
“… Is that it comes with a roommate.” Lois finishes with a smile.
It’s a cartoon worthy scene; Kara’s jaw all but drop in astonishment. Lois doesn’t even look sheepish, Kara absentmindedly notices. If anything, she looks almost smug, as if proud of her little prank.
“I’m not taking it,” Kara flats out declare, grabbing her backpack and moving toward the door. “I can’t believe I got my hopes up, I should have known better.”
“Hey, what does that even mean?” Lois calls after her, sounding outraged. “Hey! Kara, come on. You know you won’t be able to afford anything else as nice and as close as everything you want.”
That makes Kara pauses, because it’s nothing but the truth.
The apartment is spacious, luminous, close to everything she needs and it even has a small garage next to the building where she could park her bike. Not to mention that the cheap rent is nothing short of a miracle, especially in this neighborhood.
Kara hesitates, hovering near the entrance. She quickly studies her options. Alex did tell her she was welcome for as long as she needed but she knew her sister’s patience was starting to grow thin, especially since Lucy came back from her semester abroad and was now living with her. Lena would be more than happy to have her but the situation in between them was still a little weird and beside, Kara didn’t want to risk stumbling upon either Lex or Lillian Luthor. Winn would be over the moon but her exuberant friend would be too much for her in less than a week, she could bet her weight in potstickers.
“I hate you,” Kara mutters under her breath. She needs a place to stay and this apartment is her best option, she knows it. Turning around, she glares at her friend “Why didn’t you tell me about the roommate in the first place?”
“I knew you needed to see the place, first. It’s a really good place, you know?” Lois gestures around, encompassing her surroundings. Kara can only nods because the large living room full of bookcases already feels like home, just like the all-equipped American kitchen on the other side of the place, with an island that has stools in front of it.
“Still. Not cool,” Kara mumbles and this time, Lois does look a little contrite. “Anyway, where’s the roommate?”
“She’s abroad for the moment, she’ll be back in a week or so. I already texted her to inform her, she’s … Well,” Lois trails off, looking a little thoughtful. Kara narrows her eyes again. “She’s something, that’s for sure.”
Kara groans and rubs at her eyes.
“Meaning she’s not happy you trapped her with a new roommate in her absence. That’s just great, thanks a lot Lois.” Kara sighs, looking down to search for her phone in her backpack. “Who’s she, anyway? What does she do?”
Lois doesn’t reply right away. Kara finds her phone and looks up, following Lois line of sight and landing on a frame hanged on the wall, near one of the bookshelves.
“You have got to be kidding me … Your roommate is your ex?” Kara asks, stepping forward to study the picture.
It shows Lois on the left, radiant with a carefree smile and her dark hair wind-whipped around her head, looking down at a smaller, blond woman whose smile is a little more reserved but her hazel green eyes are lit up with joy and love. They look incredibly happy, standing close to each-others and with a jungle waterfall in the background.
“You’re moving in with my cousin and leaving me to deal with your ex? That’s a new low for you, Lois,” Kara accuses, turning an angry glare to her friend.
“Come on Kara, it’s not like that!” Lois retorts, sounding a little hurt. “Cat and I are still best friends. We broke up a long time ago, way before I met Clark …”
Lois glances at the picture and her eyes soften in a way that tells Kara she probably doesn’t know the whole story there.
“Does she know who I am?” Kara groans, because she doesn’t need more drama in her life.
“Not specifically, no. She knows you’re a friend of Lucy,” Lois replies. “I’m not sure it’s a good idea to tell her, not right away at least.”
“Gee, talk about a poisoned apple …” Kara mutters, looking around at the splendid apartment that came with such a high price. “Anything else I should know about?”
“Yes … Cat’s the heir of a big, big law-firm. Her parents are … Well, loaded doesn’t even start to cover it. They’re all the way up next to the Kennedy, the Clinton or whatever rich family you can think of, when it comes to the level of wealth.”
“And that’s important because …” Kara prods, arching an unimpressed brow.
“Because that reaction, right there, slightly judgmental and downright provocative, will get you ejected in no time,” Lois retorts, rolling her eyes. “Cat’s family is very rich, sure, but she actually works really, really hard to get by on her own. The only money she accepts from her parents is for her birthday and at Christmas and I’m pretty sure she gives most of it to a bunch of charity association anyway.”
“She works?” Kara snorts, disbelief clear in her voice.
“She does, yes. She’s a law student but she’s also taking a bunch of Business and Communication night classes, when she’s not tutoring or working as a part-time assistant for Perry White.”
Kara doesn’t say anything to that. She figures if the woman works so much, she won’t be around too often and maybe, maybe this arrangement will work.
“Alright. I’m taking it,” Kara sighs and she waves a threatening finger in front of Lois when her friend smiles victoriously. “However, this goes against my better judgment and don’t think you’ll get away with this so easily.”
“Sure, whatever you say, super puppy,” Lois replies with a laugh before handing over the keys and the paperwork.
“You’re the new roommate,” a voice comes from the entrance of her bedroom.
Kara doesn’t even startle. Instead, she finishes writing the line she’s started and then put down her pen, flexing her fingers to chase the slight cramp that threatens to spread.
Eventually, she looks up from her essay and falls into a pair of startlingly bright hazel eyes. It’s a little mesmerising, with golden sparkles swirling in it that somehow highlight the very faint freckles on her eyes and cheeks.
“I don’t know if ‘new’ is the right word,” Kara retorts, eying the woman standing in her door frame. She’s small but somehow, her presence is very commanding. She breathes power and authority, especially with the powerful black high-heels, the black pencil skirt and matching jacket opened on a crisp white shirt. “I’ve been living here for three months, now.”
It had been like living with a ghost, so far, and a fancy one with that. One that left leftovers sushi in the fridge, that drinks wine and seems to have a soft spot for dark chocolate, who dresses all fancy and sometimes forgets a pair of shoes, a shirt or a jacket in the living room, who stacks up books as if it was collector and who leaves a very strong, heady trail of spicy yet woody perfume behind.
Kara hadn’t minded in the least, glad to have the space for herself on the rare moments she’d been in. Still, her curiosity had more than once left her hesitating in front of the perfectly white door, devoid of any posters or decorative element in any kinds, that led to Cat’s bedroom.
Cat smiles, slowly.
She looks a little older than in the picture that still hangs on a wall in the living room. Her hair, of a distinct shade of golden blond, is shorter and barely brushes her shoulders now, lazily curling toward the end. She’s wearing makeup but it’s light, as far as Kara can tell. No daring lipstick, no pronounced contour or strong blush, it’s all carefully applied to give the illusion of something natural.
Kara leaves her desk and comes to stand in front of Cat, distractingly noticing she’s still a little taller despite the daring high-heels.
“Kara Danvers,” she introduces herself, extending a hand. “Pleasure.”
Cat looks at the hand and seems to hesitate for a moment. Kara doesn’t back off and waits, not looking away.
Eventually, Cat seizes Kara’s fingers and gives them a firm handshake. “Cat Grant. Likewise.”
After that, Cat leaves without a word and Kara takes a deep breath, inhaling the woody perfume that still hangs in the air.
“How is it going with this roommate of yours?” Lucy asks, handing a beer to Kara before sitting down next to her on the couch.
“It’s … civilized, I guess?” Kara replies, taking a big swing off her beer and slouching against the cushions with a heavy sigh. “She’s barely there anyway, it’s like living with a very clean ghost.”
Lucy laughs and Alex, sat on the floor next to Lucy’s legs, snorts.
“Cat Grant is many many things, but she’s certainly no ghost.” Lucy eventually replies, voice soft and gentle, and Kara glances at her.
“Right, you must know her, since she dated Lois for a while …” Kara recalls, before cheering as Alex manages to beat her record time in the car-racing video game she’s playing.
“I do know Cat Grant, yes,” the younger Lane nods. “She’s … well. I have no words to describe Cat Grant.”
That earns Lucy a curious look from Alex before the game starts again. Lucy seems lost in her mind for a little while but when she returns to the moment at hand, it’s with a warning in her eyes.
“Piece of advice though, my sister broke Cat’s heart when she ended things with her and despite Lois insisting that they’re still best friend, I wouldn’t mention your cousin’s name around her.”
“Shouldn’t be a problem,” Kara mumbles. “Aside from this one time where we officially met each other, I haven’t seen her.”
Lucy gives her a strange look but then Alex swears, loudly, and their attention is back on the game.
It starts with post-its.
Kara is in a hurry one day, she grabs the plate of leftover sushi to bring as her lunch and leaves a yellow note instead. It says “Sorry about the sushi, I needed lunch. I’ll buy you a fresh plate tonight.”
The same evening, she places a fancy assortment of sushi in the fridge and leaves a green post-it : “As promised; fresh from that shop you seems to like. I asked for your usual. Bye!”
The following morning, as Kara opens the fridge to grab the milk, she notices a post-it on the plate of sushi, but it’s blue. The handwriting is neat and precise “Thank you. Help yourself if you need the rest for lunch. C.”
It takes Kara totally by surprise. She was mostly expecting some kind of warning, a subtle “back off” kind of reply but the apparent easiness of this little exchange warms her heart.
When she comes back from her shift at the bar she’s tending every three nights, she places a bottle of fancy wine on the kitchen island and sticks a pink post-it on it. “Thanks for the lunch! I heard it’s good wine, let me know if you like it? Bye.”
The next afternoon, when she emerges, the bottle is gone but there’s a brown bag instead, with a yellow post-it. “The wine is actually one of my favorite, thank you. Potstickers? I noticed you seem to eat a lot of them … Enjoy. C.”
That makes Kara’s day.
“Movie night?” says the pink post-it on the coffee table when Kara comes back from her soccer practice.
She laughs and shouts across the apartment “I need a shower first, meet me on the couch in twenty minutes. Also, I’m ordering pizza, our usual.”
Kara pulls out her phone from her pocket and calls their usual place.
The man on the other side greets her by her first name and jokes with her about the last national soccer game score before telling her their pizzas will be there in half an hour. She thank him and writes “Pizzas will be there in 30 min” on a blue post-it, replacing the pink one on the coffee table.
Once in her room, she carefully add the post-it to her collection, in a notebook that’s already filled with colorful notes. She’s annotated each one with a quick context quote so now the little book is telling a story.
Kara smiles softly at the last note and then closes the notebook, already stripping from her dirty clothes before she jumps in the shower.
“I’m fine, Alex, I swear! It looked a lot scarier than it was, I promise,” Kara protests, swatting away her sister’s hand. “Stop fussing!”
Alex leans back and glares down at her sister, Lucy standing next to her.
“Scarier doesn’t even begin to cover it,” Alex growls, eyes flashing with anger. “I just watched you get hit by a car thrown at full speed, get ejected from your bike, fly across the road and then land miles away, right through the windshield of another car. It truly is a wonder you’re still alive!”
Kara looks a little sheepish at that but her stubbornness resurfaces instantly and she raises her chin.
“Yet, I’m perfectly alright and I’ll be out in two days. Now stop fluffing my pillows!” Kara pushes Alex’s hands away again.
“Wait until mom hears about this,” Alex threatens, storming out of the room after one last glance at her sister.
Lucy sighs and takes a seat by Kara’s medial bed. She doesn’t say anything, she simply watches and Kara slowly deflates under the unrelenting, watchful gaze.
“I know. I’m being an asshole,” Kara sighs, finally looking away. She feels bad that she scared Alex and Lucy but honestly, she’s been through worse. “I just … I hate hospitals.”
Her voice is small and low. Lucy doesn’t say anything, she simply takes one of Kara’s hands in hers and squeezes. Kara squeezes back, grateful for her friend’s quiet presence.
“Oh my gosh, Kara!”
“Cat?” Kara looks up and sees Cat enters the room, a look of pure panic written across her face.
In all the months they’ve been basically living together, it’s the first time Cat’s not all perfectly put together. She looks disheveled, her cheeks have that red glow that comes from running against the wind and her clothes, a pair of casual jeans and a soft navy blue pull-over, are too casual and a little crumpled, not perfectly adjusted like always. Her eyes are ablaze with panic and adrenaline and Kara watches, a little enthralled, as the golden sparkles swirl and swirl and swirl around in the hazel irises.
“You idiot!” Cat shouts, striding forward and hitting the ground with more force than strictly necessary. That’s when Kara notices Cat isn’t wearing heels. “What the hell were you thinking!”
Cat stops on the other side of the bed, across from where Lucy’s sat and still holding Kara’s hand.
“Uh … I was just driving back to the apartment …” Kara tries to reply but the burning glare Cat throws her shuts her up right away.
“You could have died, you absolute, stubborn, ridiculous idiot!” Cat accuses and Kara shrinks a little in her bed, not understanding why Cat was so angry at her. “I was waiting for you for our usual movie night, but you didn’t come home. You weren’t answering my texts and it was getting so late …”
Cat takes a deep breath and Kara goes to say something but another glare dissuades her.
“I eventually texted Winn, thinking you were still at the bar, to ask if you were alright. Imagine my surprise when he instantly called me and told me you’ve been rushed into the nearest hospital, because you got hit by a car!” Cat all but yells the last few words, fury echoing in her voice and it’s suddenly too much because she’s pacing.
“I was already on my way when you sister called me, to let me know about the accident,” Cat adds and now she looks hurt. Kara doesn’t even know why, she doesn’t understand what prompted Cat to unleash like this. They’ve been getting close lately, verging on the line of best-friends really, but this categorized relationship doesn’t explain Cat’s outburst.
Helplessly, she stares at her roommate and notices the unshed tears gathered in the hazel green eyes. All of a sudden, Cat looks small, vulnerable and so impossibly lost, all Kara wants to do is leap out of her bed and hold her close.
She opens her mouth to apologize when a new voice echoes in the room.
“Kara! Thank God you’re alright!”
Clark rushes to her side and grabs her hand, already fussing around her like her sister did before, puffing the pillow, moving the plate of food and beverage around, checking the tubes and the machines gathered near the bed.
“I got so scared, when Alex called! What happened, who did this?” Clark points to the bandage around her head and then to the many strips on her collarbones and along her arms. He looks incredibly relieved but Kara sees the anger in his eyes, not knowing if it’s directed at her or at the person responsible for her injuries.
“Clark Kent? You … You know Kara?” Cat asks, looking stunned and a little confused. Kara winces and pushes her cousin away, ready to explain, when Lois makes her entrance.
“For the love of God, Kara, we got so scared! Don’t do that again okay?”
“Gee, what is it with you people, do you seriously think I did this on purpose? Stop telling me to not do that again, I’m not the one responsible for the accident”, Kara rebels and glares at everyone around, her eyes bouncing from Lucy, to Clark, to Lois and finally, they land on Cat.
Cat, who’s glancing between Lois, Clark and her, looking utterly hurt, betrayed even. Kara winces again and reaches a hand but Cat shakes her head no.
“Hey there, Kitty Cat!” Lois greets, sounding surprised and slightly uncomfortable, and Kara wants to disappear into the ground and to never face either Lois or Cat ever again. “I didn’t know you’d be there.”
“Believe or not, neither did I,” Cat retorts, curtly. Her eyes are flashing with hurt, anger and confusion. The golden sparkles are dimmed, in the darkness of her green irises and Kara shudders when the gaze focuses on her. “Of course, you’re related to Clark.”
“He’s … my cousin, yes. We’re … almost the same age, give or take six months,” Kara nods, knowing better than to lie her way out of this situation. Cat’s gaze is full of heat and Kara squirms.
“Is there a reason as to why you never told me about this particular relationship?” Cat asks, voice cold and collected, the green of her eyes darkening even more.
“Actually, that’s my fault,” Lois jumps in, looking very sheepish. Kara wants to tell her to shut up, to stop talking but of course, there’s no telling that to Lois Lane. Ever. “I told Kara you would throw her out of the apartment if you knew about her relationship to Clark. I advised her to … not say anything.”
Cat seems about to lash out again but before she can says something, she’s interrupted.
“What on earth is happening in here?” Alex asks, stepping into the room and glancing at all the people present. One look at Cat and Lois tells her everything she needs to know.
“Oh,” Alex sighs. She takes a deep breath and then looks right into Cat’s eyes. “Cat, I’m sorry we never told you. It wasn’t right. I shouldn’t have played along with Lois idea to keep this relationship a secret and I’m truly, really sorry.”
A thick, stunned silence follows Alex’s apology. Cat looks thrown off, more than anyone else, but she manages to recompose herself.
“Thank you, Alex. I … appreciate that,” Cat accepts the apology and then gestures to Kara. “Please, take care of the stubborn idiot over there.”
After that, she exits the room without another words.
There’s no post-it waiting for her when she returns to the apartment, three days later. The place is dark and quiet and Kara doesn’t even need to check to know Cat’s gone.
She’s tried to reach out, through texts and calls, for the past three days but Cat is nothing if persistent in her indifference. Kara feels miserable and while it’s tempting to blame it all on Lois, she knows it’s her own fault.
She should have told Cat about Lois secret the moment they started being friends.
They’ve been so close lately, having regular movie night on the couch together with various sort of take-out, Kara showing up at Cat’s work after her soccer practice to pick her up and bring her home, Cat studying on Kara’s bed while Kara wrote her essays at her desk with soft music in the background, Cat dropping by at Kara’s bar, in between Kara’s shift, to have a drink or share some food, the many excursions they went through across town, the museums Cat dragged Kara to, the walks by the beach sharing an ice-cream or some candy flush, talking and laughing and debating about one thing or another.
Cat’s love for old books and the way she would sometimes smell like it, like dust and old pages, a scent Kara found familiar and grounding. Kara’s strange tastes in music and Cat’s mockery of it, a façade to hide the fact she was very curious and sometimes even liked the same things Kara did. Cat’s tendency to tidy everything and Kara’s messy self, their many arguments about a forgotten sweater or a pair of sneakers in the way. Kara’s terrible attempts at cooking and Cat’s irritated yet fond looks whenever she tried something new.
Cat’s warmth against her flank on the couch as they watched a movie. Cat’s way to adjust the collar or whatever top Kara was wearing before they left the apartment. Cat’s scent, heady and dizzying, so comforting, that still lingered on the couch long after she was gone.
Cat’s laugh, like a melody, a sound that meant home.
She never realized how much Cat had come to mean to her, until she was gone.
“Why so glum?” Winn asks, sitting down at a stool next to her. He looks a little concerned but mostly, his eyes have the glazed glow of someone who’s had too much to drink.
“Nothing,” Kara sighs, nursing her glass of Scotch and watching as Alex and Lucy dance together in the middle of the crowd. “I just … nevermind.”
“Feel lonely?” Winn supplies and Kara throws him a shocked glare, a little alarmed that her very drunk friend is still able to read her so easily.
“Come on. You’ve been mooning over that roommate of your for months now, it’s practically visible from space,” Winn rolls his eyes and then winces, apparently regretting the move. “I’m guessing she’s still not talking to you and … you miss her, am I right?”
Kara sighs, heavily so.
“Yeah, I do. It’s ridiculous, really.” Kara lets out a frustrated breath. “She’s … she’s Cat Grant.”
“What does being Cat Grant entails, exactly?” Winn asks with a frown, because of course he doesn’t see the point.
Kara finishes her drink and asks for another one before taking a deep breath.
“She’s … she’s so incredibly smart, in a way I still can’t exactly fathom. Her mind is quick and sharp, she manages to see the details in everything without loosing the big picture. She’s witty, too.” Kara chuckles, eyes sparkling. “Her sarcasm has this cutting edge that could probably freeze the sun but somehow, when she smiles … it’s like … it’s like … she is the sun itself, you know? It lit up her whole being from the inside, she just glows and it reaches her eyes. It always reaches her eyes when she genuinely smiles.”
Winn’s listening, eyes intent on her despite the drunken glaze.
“She’s incredibly proud. She doesn’t like when people just overlook her because her parents have money. She’s a real perfectionist, you know? Always pushing for everyone to be the better version of themselves, to never be content with just what they have and to dare reaching out for more. She’s doing it to herself, to the point it must be exhausting, I think,” Kara smiles, a little sadly. Cat never allows herself to just be herself. “She works really hard, in her classes, for the students she’s tutoring and even in her job. She never gives up. I’ve heard stories of how she’s treated in this newspapers … It makes my skin crawl everytime she talks about it, but she doesn’t even pay attention to it. She’s ambitious. So much, I swear one day she’ll be president or something.”
“Well, here’s one career path I didn’t even consider, until now …”
Kara swirls around on her stool, so fast she almost ends up on the floor but hands land on her hips and steady her. Cat’s smiling, a little smugly, and her eyes are bright with something Kara doesn’t even dare to interpret. She steps forward and invades Kara’s space, smelling like spice and wood, with just a hint of alcohol.
“Hey,” Kara whispers, dropping her eyes to her knees. “You’re … back.”
“I wasn’t supposed to be,” Cat replies, her voice low and a little hesitant now. She still has her hands on Kara’s hips and Kara feels her skin burn under the warmth of Cat’s palms, through her clothes. “I just … I … I missed you.”
Kara freezes and then blinks, a little helplessly. “You did?”
“I did,” Cat smiles, leaning forward. “I took a plane this afternoon and then came straight from the airport because Winn texted me, said you were here.”
Kara glances at her friend but the stool he previously occupied was empty. Kara and Cat were all alone near the bar, save it from the coming and going bartender on the other side of it.
“How much of it did you hear?” Kara asks, swallowing hard under Cat’s focused gaze.
“Apparently, your mooning over me is visible from space …” Cat chuckles and Kara groans, hiding her face in between her hands and muttering something about killing Winn.
“Please don’t,” Cat whispers, slowly prying Kara’s fingers away from her face. “I’ve been … too scared to make a move. I didn’t know … I didn’t know you felt that way about me.”
Kara looks up to meet Cat’s gaze. It’s so bright and hopeful, it takes Kara’s breath away.
“I did. I do. I …” Kara sighs, looking down again. “I should have told you about Clark, I’m sorry about that. I thought … I thought maybe you wouldn’t like me anymore, if you knew I was Clark Kent’s cousin. I know you and Lois have a … complicated story.”
Cat slowly removes her hands from Kara’s hip and the loss is jaring, it makes Kara shudders. Cat takes the stool Winn has just vacated and looks at Kara with sadness in her eyes.
“We … had, a complicated story. I’m not going to lie, she broke my heart when she ended our relationship but it’s not fair to put all the blame on her, as tempting as it is,” Cat explains with a slight chuckle. Kara arches a surprise brow but doesn’t say anything. “I … never told my parents, about Lois and I. Worse, I hid her, on the few times they came visit me. She …”
Cat draws in a breath and accepts the glass of wine the bartender places in front of her. She’s a regular in this bar where Kara sometimes works, the other bartenders know what she likes and they’re past the point of asking, they just go with it.
“As flawed as Lois is, as annoying as she can sometimes be, she never hid who she was and she didn’t deserve the way I was treating her, back then. I … I understand, why she broke up with me. We stayed friends, and I value her friendship a great deal.”
Kara tilts her head and looks at the way Cat plays with her drink. The deep burgundy beverage swirls in the glass, slowly, regularly, it’s a little fascinating.
“I got so scared, Kara. When Winn called me to let me know about your accident … I felt as if my whole world was crumbling. I was … terrified of losing you. I didn’t understand why, at first,” Cat says and there’s a tremor in her voice, hints of terror in her hazel eyes. “I might be a little … awkward, when it comes to feelings. Dealing with it has never been my strong suit and I’m a firm believer of bottling everything up and letting it sink somewhere safe.”
Kara slowly reaches and takes Cat’s hand in hers, brushing her thumb across Cat’s knuckles. She doesn’t say anything but with just a nod, she encourages her to keep talking.
“I found you in the hospital, all banged up, with a bandage on your head and everywhere on your body and I … I wanted to hold you, to feel that you were real, still alive and not going anywhere but I … I got scared, Kara,” Cat breathes, squeezing Kara’s fingers. “Of my own feelings, their intensity, the way it ruled every thoughts in my head, every decision I could make, everything. Clark was just … a convenient excuse for me to reject the blame on something else. I admit, I did feel a little betrayed that you didn’t tell me, but it’s not why I stormed off. It’s not the reason I left town.”
“Why did you?” Kara asks, softly. She thinks she knows the answer but she still needs to hear it and more importantly, Cat needs to say it.
“You’re going to make me say it, aren’t you?” Cat sasses, wanting to remove her hand but Kara holds on and nods. Cat nods too and takes another deep breathe, followed by a long swing of wine. It takes her a minute but she eventually manages to look Kara in the eyes.
“I … I think I’m … falling in love with you, Kara Danvers.”
Kara smiles, widely. “You think?”
Cat rolls her eyes and swats at Kara’s hand. “Shut up.”
“Aww, no,” Kara says, grabbing back Cat’s hand and pulling it close, placing it over her heart. Its frantic beats seem to surprise Cat and she stops struggling against Kara’s hold. “Let me talk. I don’t think I’m falling in love with you. I know I am. I have been in love with you for a long, long time now, but I didn’t want to admit it. I’m no better than you when it comes to feelings, it’s a fucking scary thing.”
Cat gasps and Kara brushes her thumb against the hollow of Cat’s wrist. “I love you, Cat Grant. I love you, and I’m an idiot for not having said so any sooner.”
“You are an idiot,” Cat nods but there’s no denying the pure, unadulterated happiness that shines in her eyes as she smiles, genuinely, widely so. “You’re my idiot.”
Kara doesn’t wait and leans forward, kissing Cat with all she has and all she is. It’s soft and yet intense, tender but passionate and so incredibly intimate. Her hands move to hold Cat’s cheeks, cradling her close and keeping her there as she pulls back, a little breathless.
“I’ve been dreaming of kissing you since the moment you fell asleep on my lap while watching The Empire Strike Back,” Kara whispers against Cat’s lips, earning a chuckle and an eye roll.
“You know I don’t like Star Wars,” Cat muses, dropping a kiss at the corners of Kara’s mouth.
“Liar. You love it,” Kara shakes her head and her laugh gets swallowed in another kiss, deeper this time, more demanding, pressing. A hand tugs at the front of her sweater and she obliges, stepping up from the stool and invading Cat’s space to slide herself in between Cat’s legs.
A moan escapes the back of Cat’s throat and the sound sends a bolt of pure desire down Kara’s core, making her tremble a little against Cat.
“Wanna get out of here?” Kara asks, moving her lips down to Cat’s jawline and dropping a line of soft, sweet kisses alongside it.
“I thought you’d never ask,” Cat groans and before Kara knows it, she’s being dragged outside by her girlfriend.
Nothing really changes.
They still have a movie night once or twice a week. Kara still goes to pick up Cat after her soccer practice. They still go to the beach and to the museums together, sharing ice-cream or candy flush. They still study together, listening to music. Kara still tries to cook on a regular basis, under Cat’s fond yet unimpressed gaze. They still argues about the clothes in the living room.
There’s just a lot of making out in the middle.
Sometimes, the movie plays on the TV but no one is watching. Books and essays lie on the floor, amongst the discarded clothes that tend to get removed very quickly these days. There’s hand holding whenever they’re outside together, sweet kisses and small gestures. They go to Alex and Lucy for game nights once a week and it’s comfortable, easy. They still argue and sometimes they even fight and they end up sleeping in their respective bedroom, until one of them caves and gets up to join the other one in the middle of the night. Cat goes to Kara’s soccer games and Kara makes the regular effort to attend some of Cat’s work events.
All in one, they work and it lasts.
“You guys are so sickeningly in love, it’s disgusting,” Alex grumbles one morning, three months after the official start of Cat and Kara’s relationship.
She’s hovering by the door with a box of donuts and a cardboard trail full of coffee cups.
“Alex, do come in,” Cat smiles and opens the door a little wider for the older Danvers to step in.
“Is my sister even decent?” Alex asks, nervously looking around. She’s walked on them a few times already and she now knows better than to just knock and enter without answer.
“She’s getting dressed, yes,” Cat chuckles, rolling her eyes before eying the coffee cups with interest.
“Yes, one of them is for you,” Alex puts the donuts box on the kitchen island and hand over her non-fat, no whole milk, bulletproof latte to Cat. She looks a little nauseous as she picks up her own cup. “I don’t know how you can drink this, seriously.”
“Force of habit, I suppose,” Cat shrugs.
Kara bounces out of Cat’s bedroom and comes hug her sister before moving around to kiss Cat. It’s soft and sweet, brief but with just enough love to content Cat, who relaxes back against the kitchen island with a dreamy smile on her lips.
“Sickening,” Alex mutters but there’s a smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
“You’re just jealous because Luce’s away for a few weeks and you miss her,” Kara rolls her eyes at her sister and opens the donuts box, already picking a chocolate one and handing it over to Cat. She then chooses a jelly filled one for herself. “Where is she anyway?”
“Paris, again,” Alex sighs. “Her environmental law firm is sending her to negotiate at a climate summit or something.”
“Our hero,” Kara smiles and she means it. It makes Alex smile too.
“Alright, are you ready?”
“Sure, let’s go,” Kara says, moving around to go pick up her bag in Cat’s bedroom. When she comes back, Alex is waiting for her by the door and Cat’s lingering near the couch, looking a little sad.
“Awww no, don’t be sad. It’s only three days, I’ll be back before you know it,” Kara laughs, dropping the back on the couch to hug her girlfriend.
“Urgh. I’m gonna wait for you in the car, bye Cat!” Alex says, waving goodbye and then closing the door behind her, offering them some privacy.
“I know, I know but I just …” Cat pauses, looking a little frustrated. Kara slides a finger under Cat’s chin and lift it, slowly.
“Tell me,” Kara pushes, looking into Cat’s eyes. She knows it’s still hard for Cat to deal with feelings, to accept and express them.
“I don’t sleep when you’re not here,” Cat whispers, looking small and vulnerable. Kara’s heart burst out with love and she leans in to kiss her girlfriend, long and hard. Hands tangle in her hair and a body she now knows by heart presses against hers.
“I love you, Cat Grant. I can’t wait to come back to you,” Kara says softly, randomly dropping a few kisses on Cat’s face. It seems to ease Cat just enough to make a smile appears.
“Please do,” she whispers, leaning forward to place her forehead against the crock of Kara’s shoulder.
“You know I will, Cat. I’m not going anywhere, you’re stuck with me for as long as you’ll have me,” Kara replies, caressing Cat’s hair with one hand and stroking her back with the other. “I’m your idiot, remember?”
That makes Cat laugh and it’s how Kara knows she can go.
Kara climbs the stairs leading to their apartment so fast she almost falls a few time. She’s holding her bag, overthrown on one shoulder, with one hand and the other is keeping a bouquet of flowers upright. White lilies, Cat’s favorite.
She drops the bag at her feet and fumbles around to find her keys, barely managing to enter the right one in the lock when the door is thrown open in front of her. She’s expecting Cat but instead, there’s a much older woman in front of her.
“Hello,” says the stranger. “Who are you?”
The woman is smaller than Kara but the commanding presence is oddly familiar. She’s concealing her age fairly well but the creases on her forehead, the crinkles around her eyes and the defined veins on her hands are still giving it away. She’s wrapped in a burgundy ensemble, pants and a matching jacket over a black shirt and she’s wearing heels. Her pixie haircut hardens her features and highlight the dark green of her eyes.
“Uh … I’m Kara, and I live here. Who are you?” Kara asks, frowning at the stranger in her apartment.
“I’m Kat …” the woman says and Kara snorts.
“No you’re not,” Kara replies and the woman throws her an irritated look that’s all too familiar.
“If you let me finish … I’m Katherine Grant, Cat’s mother.”
Kara gapes and stares, unable to says anything. It’s definitely not what she was expecting to come home to.
“You must be … the roommate,” Katherine muses, looking up and down at Kara’s figure. “Are those flowers for us?”
“Us?” Kara repeats, entirely too lost to do anything else.
She’s coming back from a very intense soccer camp training, she’s exhausted, missing her girlfriend and the way this woman is looking at her with something like disdain in her eyes is grating on her nerves.
“My husband and I,” Katherine exaggeratedly articulates, as if she was talking to a dumb person. “I assume my daughter told you about our visit?”
Kara grits her teeth and counts to ten before she manages to plaster a smile on her lips and extends a hand.
“Actually, she probably forgot to tell me. I’ve been away for a few days and just coming back from a sport camp, but here,” Kara gives away the flowers. “I’m Kara Danvers and despite the awkward beginning, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Mrs Grant.”
That seems to please Katherine because the faint shadow of a smile tugs at the corners of her lips. It’s barely there but Kara’s taking whatever she can, especially since the 'meeting the parents’ situation didn’t start out so great.
“Is Cat around?” Kara asks, trying not to sound too hopeful.
“She’s on her way back from work, apparently,” a man’s voice echoes behind Katherine. Kara glances further in the living room and see a gentleman in a navy blue three pieces suit standing near one of the bookshelves. He’s taller than his wife, with distinguished features and metallic grey hair perfectly ordered atop his head. His eyes are of a grey-blue color Kara finds oddly comforting.
“Don’t stand in the way dear, do come in,” Katherine gestures for her to step in and Kara tries not to seethe that this stranger is inviting her in her own place. She grabs her bag and excuses herself to her bedroom.
She’s not used her own bedroom in months and it shows. Dust is gathering on her wardrobe, on her desk and on her bed night stands. It’s all too neat, too ordered for her taste. She searches for her phone in her bag and curses when she sees it’s out of power. She plugs it and unpack her stuff while it gathers enough battery to be launched again.
When it finally starts, it vibrates non-stop for about two minutes.
She has eight missed calls and twice as many texts, all from Cat.
“Uh oh,” Kara sighs.
She’s about to call Cat back when her phones goes off, Cat’s calling.
“Hi babe,” Kara greets, smiling from ear to ear.
“Kara, oh my gosh where have you been?” Cat’s panicked and short of breath. “I’ve been trying to call you for hours! Nevermind, whatever you do, don’t show up at the apartment tonight, my parents are in town and they didn’t announce themselves, as usual …”
Kara stays silent after that. She knows Cat’s still not out to her parents, they’ve talked about it and Kara knows Cat isn’t ready but after what happened with Lois, Kara was still expecting some kind of gesture. A step in the right direction. Something to hang onto. This, Cat lying to her about her parents dropping unannounced and asking her to hide until they’re gone, was not great.
The disappointment hurts, like a needle piercing her thick skin and reaching the sensitive part of her.
“You don’t say,” Kara retorts, a little coolly. “Your mother sounds lovely. I have yet to interact with your father though. What should I do, hide in the closet in my bedroom until they’re gone?”
There’s a pause on the other side of the line, before Cat speaks again. “You’re … home?”
Again, this isn’t the excited welcome Kara was expecting. Instead, Cat sounds terrified, slightly sick even.
“You know, sometimes I wonder … am I just a piece of furniture, to you? You sure as hell conveniently seems to forget that I live here, too,” Kara snaps, not handling her disappointment well. She looks at herself in the mirror of her bedroom.
She’s already dressed for it, casual jeans, a red hoodie beneath her leather jacket and she’s wearing her favorite pair of red converses to go with it.
“Nevermind Cat, I’m going to the bar. I wasn’t planning on working tonight but I guess it doesn’t matter anyway,” Kara says, shortly. “Don’t wait for me, I’ll crash at Winn’s tonight. Have fun with your parents.”
Kara hangs up and grabs her keys, her wallet and pushes them in her pocket with her phone. She gets her motorcycle helmet and a backpack she fills with whatever clothes will work as a pyjama, some toiletries and then heads out.
“I’m sorry Mrs and Mr Grant, but I’ve been called out to replace one of my coworkers, out sick. Since I figured you’d like to have some time with your daughter, I won’t intrude that way. Enjoy your dinner,” Kara waves at them and exits her place as fast as she can.
In her pocket, her phone keeps vibrating but she just ignores it.
“She’s calling me now, please do something,” Winn says, sounding slightly terrified.
His phone is lit up with Cat’s name above a wallpaper that says 'Breathe and pick up’. It usually makes Kara laugh, but not tonight.
“Nope,” Kara says, ignoring the call and going away to clear some tables and takes a few orders.
“Still no progress?” Alex asks from behind him, and Winn shakes his head.
“I think Cat royally screwed up this time,” Winn says, sadness echoing in his voice. He’s known the Danvers sisters for a long time now and he’s been in their life long enough to recognize when the situation’s really bad.
“I agree,” Alex sighs, worriedly looking at her sister across the bar. “She’s not calling me though, I must be her very last resort …”
“Cat’s terrified of you, so yeah I’m pretty sure you’ll be the very last person she calls,” Winn laughs but it’s hollow, it doesn’t reach his eyes.
“And yet …” Alex mumbles, raising her phone to show Cat’s name etched on it.
“Oh, whow,” Winn lets out a breath. “That bad …”
“Hi Cat,” Alex greets, placing her phone against her ear. She keeps her voice neutral and cool but her eyes are burning with anger.
Winn doesn’t hear what Cat says but the anger flaring up in the older Danvers eyes tells him it’s not good. It calms down pretty quickly though and Winn hears sobs, coming out of Alex’s phone.
“Cat … You did something terribly wrong, there’s no denying it. I know it, Kara knows it, you know it … What’s done is done,” Alex eventually speaks, voice low but clear. “What you can do is apologize. Make up for it. She’s not asking you to come out to your parents, she would never ask that of you. She simply doesn’t want to be or to feel like your dirty secret.”
Winn nods approvingly.
Cat speaks some more and Alex shakes her head.
“Give her some time to cool off, she’ll be back. Cat, I mean it. Do not try to push her, you’ll only manage to do more damage,” Alex warns. “I know my sister, she’s head over heels in love with you, she’ll come around.”
Cat must have asked for some reinsurance because Alex adds, fondly “She’s still your idiot, you know. Just, give her time, give her space.”
After that, Alex hangs up and Winn gives her a knowing look.
“Please, don’t leave me,” Cat asks the moment Kara steps back in the apartment, a week after Cat’s parents visit.
Kara’s thrown off by the unexpected greeting, by the vulnerability in her girlfriend’s voice, the red rimmed eyes and the way Cat fidgets with her hands.
She’s standing next to the usual bookshelves in the living room and Kara distractingly notices the picture of Lois & Cat is gone. Cat’s wearing one of Kara’s university sweater, a pale grey hoodie with NCU blazon plastered in blue across the front. It looks too big on her but somehow, it still suits her better than Kara.
“What? No, I’m not here to breakup with you!” Kara frowns, dropping her keys in the usual plate on the small table by the entrance. She hangs her leather jacket next to the door and then turns around to face her girlfriend, who seems at a loss as to what to do.
“Come on,” Kara opens her arms and steps forward, inviting Cat in the embrace. She doesn’t need to tell her twice, Cat all but hurls herself at Kara and holds onto her for dear life.
“I’m so sorry, Kara I’m so sorry, I made a mistake, or a few …” Cat sobs against Kara’s shoulder and Kara feels fingers twist into the red fabric of her hoodie, tangling in it really. “I didn’t know … I didn’t want to … I’m …”
“Cat, look at me,” Kara pulls back just enough so she could meet Cat’s eyes. The hazel is dimmed, reddish and it’s all puffy but Kara still finds that Cat is the most beautiful woman she’s ever seen. “I know, okay? I know you didn’t mean to hurt me. I know you, and I believe you when you says you reacted poorly.”
Cat takes a deep breath and then shakes her head, hands still holding onto Kara’s hoodie.
“I never meant to make you feel like a dirty little secret, Kara,” Cat says, voice a little steadier. Kara doesn’t interrupt, her arms still wrapped around her girlfriend’s silhouette. “It was so very wrong and I am truly, really sorry about the way I treated you.”
“Thank you,” Kara nods, accepting the apology and acknowledging Cat’s efforts at offering one. “I know you panicked and you did tell me you’re not exactly good with feelings, I should have anticipated it. I’m sorry I ran away and gave you the cold shoulder for a while.”
“I hated it. Every second of it. I’ve missed you, Kara,” Cat whispers, resting her forehead against Kara’s collarbone and stepping in closer.
“I’ve missed you too, Cat. Just, don’t freak out on me the next time your parents are in town, okay?” Kara asks, lifting Cat’s chin and leaning in for a kiss.
It’s incredibly soft and tender, slightly hesitant too. It lasts for a little while but then Cat’s wrapping a hand around Kara’s neck and pulling her in closer, moaning into the kiss. The next thing Kara knows, they’re stumbling backward to Cat’s bedroom, clothes flying in every direction and greedy hands reaching for smooth skin. Cat’s whispering her name in a way that makes Kara’s knees go really weak but she still manages to sweep Cat off the ground, groaning at the way Cat’s thighs close around her waist.
“Bold move, my love,” Cat chuckles but her eyes are dark with lust and impatience and she leans forward to kiss Kara senseless.
“Hmf,” Kara’s replies gets muffled in the kiss and it’s not long before they’re finally falling into Cat’s bed, Kara’s hands already roaming Cat’s body, worshipping it really.
It’s been way too long since they hadn’t been intimate and there’s a certain tenderness into the way Kara takes her sweet time to kiss every inch of Cat’s skin, lingering on some soft spots and biting into some others, guiding Cat’s hands and murmuring words of love. Cat’s still clinging to her in a way that betrays her fears so Kara kisses her eyelashes and murmurs “I’m not going anywhere Cat. I’m yours, remember?” Cat looks at her with such awe and wonder in her eyes, Kara laughs and kisses her, loving her with everything she is, everything she has to offer, all the love she feels.
It’s very early in the morning when they finally fall asleep, tangled together in Cat’s bed.
“Cat? Cat sweetheart, are you in there?”
Kara jolts awake at the sound of Katherine Grant’s voice, coming from the living room. It takes a few seconds before the reality of that statement catch up with her brain.
“Cat! Cat wake up, your mother’s here,” Kara hisses, rolling around in the bed and missing the edge, falling on the ground with a loud thud and a swear word.
“Humpf,” Cat grumbles, grabbing a pillow and placing it over her head. Kara has never cursed the fact her girlfriend wasn’t a morning person so hard before. “Too early.”
“For fuck sake, Cat, wake up!” Kara groans as she rises up from the ground and looks around for something to throw on herself. She’s naked and if her memory serves her well, most of their clothes are still in the living room. She grabs a sweater that hangs from the side of Cat’s wardrobe and starts searching for some trousers or at least the very least, underwear.
“What are you doing up? Come back to bed,” Cat mumbles and Kara feels a hand run along her legs as she moves around the bed.
“Cat!” Kara grabs her girlfriend and gently shakes her awake. “Cat, your mother is here, in our living room, where we left all of our clothes last night …”
“My … mother?” Cat suddenly looks wide awake, if not a little pale and unsteady.
“Yes, your mother …” Kara nods, wincing as Katherine’s calling for Cat again. “Come on, get dressed and get out of the room, I’m going to hide in your bathroom.”
“No, don’t hide,” Cat states and Kara freezes, looking unsure. Cat moves to stand on her knees on the mattress and she reaches out for Kara’s face, pulling her down for a kiss. It’s slow and loving, sure too.
“Uh, Cat?” Kara asks, a little dazzled.
“No more hiding,” Cat murmurs again, a shy smile gracing her lips.
“Cat, I’m coming in,” Katherine announces and before Kara can hide or move, really, the bedroom door is thrown open and Cat’s mother’s standing in the door frame.
“There you are,” Katherine smiles. Her eyes linger on the scene in front of her but she doesn’t look in the least phased. “We brought breakfast, care to join us?”
Cat looks as dumbfounded as Kara feels and they exchange a confused look.
“What?” Katherine asks, frowning.
“You … You’re not mad?” Cat dares to ask, reaching for Kara’s hand and squeezing it. Kara returns the gesture and steps closer to her, protective.
“Mad? Why would I?” Katherine seems entirely too at ease and Kara feels really out of her depths here, but she doesn’t move.
“Uh …” Cat is at a loss for words, clearly.
“You mean, that you’re dating a woman? Please,” Katherine makes a dismissive hand gesture that seems to be destined to no one in particular. “You never fooled anyone, Cat. Your father and I have known since the day you came home babbling about this special friend of your, Olivia was it?”
“Olivia? But I was … in highschool,” Cat says, eyes wide.
“Well, yes, and?” Katherine frowns again, as if Cat’s addition wasn’t relevant in any way.
“I didn’t  … I didn’t even … know, back then!” Cat protests, looking really confused.
“You didn’t, but we did. Now, put on some clothes and join us for breakfast,” Katherine orders and she turns her gaze to Kara. “For God’s sake, put on some pants Kara! Then you’re welcome to join us, I would love to know more about my daughter’s girlfriend.”
After that, she closes the door and the sound of her heels fades away back to the kitchen.
For a moment, neither Cat or Kara speak.
They’re too stunned to even think about anything to say.
“What did just happen?” Kara eventually wonders out loud, breaking the strange quiet of the room.
“I have … no idea,” Cat replies, shocked.
“I think … as far as a coming out goes … this one should wins some kind of award,” Kara eventually chuckles, shaking her head and resuming her search for something to wear.
“What are you doing?” Cat asks.
“Uh … finding something to wear?” Kara replies, opening Cat’s wardrobe. “Your mother all but ordered me to put on some pants …”
“I like you better without your pants on,” Cat muses, voice low and seductive. It sends a shiver down Kara’s spine.
“Oh no no no. Don’t give me that look, Cat. Your parents are literally in the next room and I’ve already went through enough embarrassing time with them to last a lifetime,” Kara shakes her head and steps away from the bed, out of Cat’s reach. “Come on, get up, get dressed. We’re having breakfast with your parents.”
“Here’s a sentence I never thought I would hear coming from my girlfriend,” Cat smiles, eyes alight with joy and happiness, love.
“Something tells me we should get used to it, too,” Kara smiles back and moves closer to kiss Cat. “I love you, Cat Grant.”
“I love you too, Kara Danvers,” Cat whispers against Kara’s lips. “My idiot.” THE END

“The Great Fake Date” A Lena Luthor imagine
Tumblr media
You stood in front of the hotel your boss sent you to. It was huge and easily the most expansive hotel in National City. Whoever requested you as their date had to have a lot of money. You straightened out your fanciest outfit before entering the hotel.
Immediately, you noticed the large sign pointing to what you could only assume was the ball room. The sign read L-Corp Charity Event in elegant writing. You grinned wildly because any event hosted by the Luthors meant everyone there had money. Even though you had heard terrible things about the Luthors, you figured they couldn’t be so bad if they were donating to charity. You stood up a little straighter and strutted down the hallway. When you reached the ball room, a man in a black tuxedo stopped you.
“Name.”
“Y/n y/l/n.”
“Not on the list, sorry.”
“What do you mean I’m not on the list? I was hi-“ you suddenly stopped yourself. People who hired fake dates typically didn’t want others to know about it. The man looked at you questionably, but before he could say anything a woman wearing a beautiful black dress walked up behind him.
“Did you say your name was y/n?” She asked nearly shoving the man out of the way.
“Yes.”
“Lena Luthor, I’m the one who requested you come tonight.” She held out her hand and you quickly accepted it. The man looked hesitant to allow you through but Lena was already pulling you into the lavish room. She dragged you to a corner of the room that was already finished being decorated, far away from the workers finishing the other side of the room.
“Nice to meet you, Ms. Luthor. Thank you for selecting our service.”
“You signed the NDA, correct?” She asked, looking very nervous.
“Correct. I signed it this morning.”
“Good. Let’s go over the rules, I don’t need you to do anything crazy tonight. Just be by my side and no excessive PDA, it’s unprofessional.”
“Okay, I can do that.”
“Excellent. I’m going to check and make sure things are going smoothly. Guest will be arriving in an hour, until then, feel free to enjoy the food and bar.”
Lena hastily turned around and headed towards an unmarked door, leaving you to your own devices. You weren’t accustomed to your fake dates leaving you alone, but most of your fake dates were for weddings, not big charity events. You decided to make your way over to the bar and get the party started early.
Two hours had gone by since you last saw Lena. Even though your “date” wasn’t around, you were productive with your time. You focused on talking to the younger people in the room since they were less experienced in the business world. So far you had convinced serval young men and women to donate large sums of money to charity and invest in L-Corp.
You had just finished speaking to Jimmy Olsen about CatCo’s donation when you spotted Lena. Figuring she needed you to actually do your job, you promptly strutted over to her. Carefully, you slid an arm around her waist. The woman she was speaking with stopped talking about something that sounded un-business related when you appeared.
“Lena, who is this beautiful person?” The woman asked in the stereotypical rich woman voice.
“This is y/n, my date for this evening.” Lena looked at you with a smile and moved a little closer to you.
“Wonderful to meet you, y/n. I’m Merium Zachary.”
“Please, the pleasure is all mine, Mrs. Zachary. I’m a fan of the philanthropic work you do with your husband.”
“You are? Many young people don’t care about the work we do.”
“Many young people are idiotic and very unaware of the difficulty other countries face.”
“My, my, Lena you have a good one on your hands. Let me go find Gregory, I’m sure he would love to speak with the two of you about a donation.” Merium shuffled away to find her husband while you looked at Lena lovingly.
“How did you do that? The Zachary’s never donate to L-Corp.”
“It’s all in the tone of voice and smile, my wonderful girlfriend.” You let go of her waist and picked up her hand. Cautiously, you pressed a soft kiss to her knuckle.
“You are really milking this.”
“I’m just trying to make you look good.”
“Keep it up, it’s obviously working.”
You and Lena make small talk until the Zacharys returned. You spent the rest of the night talking to them and trying to coax a large donation out of them. Gregory wrote out a check and secretly handed it to Lena. Before they left the event, they each congratulated you on your new relationship.
When the clock struck midnight, your date with Lena was officially over. She escorted you out to your car while holding your hand the whole way.
“Thank you for tonight, y/n. You were a wonderful date.”
“You’re welcome, Ms. Luthor. I’m glad I could help make money for the charity.”
“If you ever want to get out of the fake dating business, I’m sure I could find you a spot at L-Corp.”
“Thank you. I’ll keep that in mind.”
“Goodnight, y/n.”
“Goodnight, Lena.” You got into your car and drove away, expecting to never see Lena again.
A few days later when you arrived home from another “date”, you were greeted by roses sitting on your doorstep. You carefully picked them up and read the note attached.
I’d like to take you on a real date. If you’re interested here’s my number- Lena
You grinned at the note. Your fake date lead to a real date and for once, you were excited about it.

A Tiny Bit Of Post Reveal Supercorp Fluff/Flirting
I posted angst the other day so it’s only fair. Plus fluff is more fun to write!
-
Stars twinkled high above National City, peering down curiously at the two figures huddled on the roof of CatCo magazine. The chilly breeze slowly lifted and dropped leaves and petals of the flowers that surrounded the two women. Kara Danvers huddled closer to her best friend as she shivered, Lena letting out a soft sigh of content as she cuddled the warm reporter. Lena had never felt so safe, so happy, so comfortable. Up on the roof, out of sight, the plants the only witnesses to her blissful escape, she wished she'd never have to move.
Kara murmured something unintelligible and then yawned, her precious glasses sliding to the edge of her nose. Lena chuckled, and slid them slowly off Kara's face, setting them beside her on the bench. "You don't need those here, Supergirl, it's just us."
Half-asleep, the kryptonian smiled weakly in response, "Do you like me better without them?"
The ramblings of a girl who was nearly out of it. Lena felt a little heat creeping into her cheeks and did her best to ignore the fluttering nerves in her stomach. She didn't respond, only pulled the blanket that was draped over the two of them up over Kara's chest. Kara was grinning, "I asked you a question, silly. Do you think I'm sexier with or without my glasses?"
Well, now Lena couldn't fight the violent blush that overtook her face in one fell swoop. Kara must just be joking around. Lena could play along.
"Suppose I don’t think you're sexy at all?" The Luthor teased, raising an eyebrow as a silent challenge to her friend. Go on, keep flirting.
Perhaps caught a little off guard, Kara frowned. As the familiar crinkle appeared momentarily in Kara’s forehead, Lena felt a surge of pride. But it vanished quick enough.
"Well," the kryptonian replied, "I think you're very sexy. Especially when you do that thing with your eyebrow."
Her embarrassment completely out of control, and her face considerably brighter than usual, Lena repeated the action, “Like this?”
“Luthor, you're sexy."
"How many Aldebaran rums have you had, Kara?"
Lena glanced at the table where they'd been drinking when they first came up to roof with the rest of their friends. There were several empty bottles but the table was too far away to read the labels, and there had been quite a few of them drinking.
"Not too many, I promise, maybe just enough to give me a confidence boost."
Kara didn't sound half-asleep anymore. Sure, her sleepy eyes were still a little droopy and a tiny yawn escaped her lips, but she was staring into Lena's eyes and talking clearly at least. God, she looked so adorable.
"So," Kara continued, "sexier with or without the glasses?"
"Definitely with," Lena replied, not even believing the words escaping her own mouth, but if Kara could joke around, so could she. "Supergirl is hot in a I-could-knock-you-out-right-now-but-I'd-rather-save-the-world kind of way, but Kara Danvers has that dorky kind of charm."
"Interesting," Kara abruptly yanked the blanket away from Lena and swung it over her shoulders like a cape.
"Hey!" Lena protested, "Give it back, it's cold."
"Mmhhhmm," muttered Kara, tying the cape in place before snatching her glasses back off the bench, "You want the blanket back, huh?"
Lena nodded.
Kara climbed into Lena's lap and slid her legs around the CEO's waist, watching her already-pink face turn to red. She took her blanket-cape by the corners and leaned over her friend, wrapping it around them both so their faces were held in extremely close proximity, "How sexy am I now?"
She looked like a total goofball, but Lena couldn't deny, she was into it. What was she doing? Kara was obviously flirting with her, and Lena had secretly wanted to kiss her best friend for quite some time, though she’d never imagined she’d actually get to. If there was ever going to be the right time, it was now. Lena gulped.
"So sexy," she replied somewhat shakily, her heart beating so loudly she was sure the kryptonian could hear it, "so sexy, I want to do this..."
Lena wrapped her arms around Kara's waist, pulling her closer. Then they were kissing. Lena could feel Kara smiling into the kiss as her hands ran through Lena's hair. This was real, it was happening. Lena Luthor was kissing Kara Danvers.
Eventually, Kara pulled away, resting her forehead against Lena's as she held her best friend tight, "Finally."
