1. Leaves
Lena was, in all honesty, having the time of her life. Since they’d arrived here, she had finally relaxed. Really relaxed. Lex was gone. Capital-G Gone. The last of Cadmus had been mopped up. The Conpany was no longer a problem- L-Corp was being sold off, from entire divisions down to sales of old office chairs. The Estate and nine-tenths of the family holdings were all being sold off, and the money quietly funneled into a holding company. Sam Arias would manage Lena’s wealth.
Lena had nothing to do anymore, and it was glorious. She’d done what she’d never done in her entire life: rest. She ate when was hungry, slept when she was tired. She stayed up late finishing a thriller novel she’d grabbed off one of Kara’s tables and slept it off the following day. She could do whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted, so one day she said, “Let’s go watch the leaves change.”
“Not much of that in National City,” Kara had said, not looking up from her laptop.
Lena was flipping channels when she made the suggestion, another pedestrian activity that had been too far beneath her to ever indulge during her CEO days.
“I’m serious,” said Lena. “I’ll rent us a cabin, book a flight, and we’ll be there by tomorrow morning. Vermont, or maybe New Hampshire.”
Kara looked up. “I could just fly us.”
“Short distances only,” said Lena.
Kara weighed it for a moment. She looked at Lena for a drawn out instant, eyes darting this way and that. Lena knew she had a deadline; she had become privy to the details of Kara’s life ever since she started couch surfing at Kara’s place after dumping her chic penthouse on some petroleum heir from the Emirates.
She had been “crashing” at Kara’s place for three months and had her own key, but they weren’t talking about it. Lena had remained on the couch, falling asleep to YouTube videos of molten lava and cat purring sounds, while Kara puttered around the house.
There were moments of tension. Pauses during shared meals. Moments when they pressed closed on sofa, times when Kara got up to go to bed and Lena felt this yearning to follow that she never quite obeyed.
Kara was thinking. Hard.
“Rent a cabin?”
“Yeah, someplace remote. So you can take a break. You’ve been working harder than ever, Darling. It almost feels like you’re avoiding me.”
Kara swallowed. “Okay,” she said. “We’ll fly. The regular way.”
They did, arriving in Maine less than a day later. Lena rented a Land Rover (because they were on an Adventure) and did all the driving, three hours from the airport to the cabin.
Kara rode in silence, though Lena heard her gasp.
The trees were beautiful. They were alive with color, as if an impressionist master had made the world a canvas and run riot. It was more than a mass of reds and yellows and oranges. It was astonishing.
It was dark when they arrived at the cabin. Lena had chosen one with two bedrooms, though she hesitated when she did. It had a full kitchen with a gas stove and all the amenities but also a fire pit and picnic table and gazebo, and overlooked a private swath of a small lake. It was like something out of a Bob Ross painting.
They were both tired from the flight, or at least Lena was, and turned in right away. When she rose the next day, she cheerily told her cabin-mate she was headed into town to get some supplies.
Kara went out to chop wood. Lena, of course, watched a few swings before leaving. Kara didn’t really need an axe but Lena didn’t care; she was preoccupied watching the muscles of Kara’s shoulders and back as she swung the splitting maul.
Lena got back before noon and carried the groceries inside, enough for her to use the fancy kitchen to prepare a mighty feast for her companion.
She didn’t hear the sobs until she had most of it put away. Lena bolted to the back door and stopped.
Kara was sitting on the picnic table, feet resting on the long board that acted as a seat. She was holding a single golden leaf on her hand, studying it and sobbing softly to herself.
“Kara?”
She looked up, soft blue eyes wet with tears. Lena felt a wave of grief but also panic, rushing to the table.
“Kara, what’s wrong?”
“I,” Kara started. “Lena, I’m scared.”
Lena swallowed hard. “Why?”
Kara looked at the leaf. “Another year past. The leaves turn colors and fall, school starts, things change.”
“I don’t understand.”
“Alex is married now. They’ve got a kid to raise. Nia and Brainy will probably get married soon. We hadn’t had a game night in two months.”
Lena swallowed. Kara was right. When Lena had first joined, then rejoined, this wonderful found family had been aggressively social, and now they forgot to text as often as not. They all spent more time at home or at their real jobs than at the Tower. The world had just started moving on. Kara didn’t even wear the cape every day anymore.
“I know,” said Lena, her voice thick. “But you’ve got me.”
Lena felt her pulse start to race. Kara had been so distant, she couldn’t help wonder if she was enough. If boring, retired Lena wasn’t enough. Oh God, what if Kara was thinking about going to Argo? Or the future?
“Not forever,” said Kara, her voice cracking like glass. She let the leaf drop from her fingers. “Eventually you’ll go. All of you. Brainy, Nia, Alex, Clark if he doesn’t come back from Argo. You.”
“Oh,” Lena said, softly. “Oh, Kara.”
“I think I might be immortal,” Kara whispered. “I don’t feel any aches or pains. Nothing about me changes. I don’t forget things like people do. My body just keeps repairing itself and it never makes any mistakes. What if I’m just like this forever? Or even a thousand years? What if everyone is gone and their kids are gone and no one knows who I am anymore?!” she was frantic now, the words coming too fast.
Lena reached out, tentatively. She put her hands on Kara’s shoulders and pulled herself in, wrapping her best friend in a hug.
Birds chirped, the waters of the lake made soft glug-glugs, and all around them was the soft tapping sound of the leaves, already letting go.
“I won’t leave you,” Lena whispered. “Kara, I won’t. If I have to live forever I will. I’ll find a way. Tech, magic, fifth dimensional imps. I’ll find a way.”
Kara sighed, arms firmly around her.
“Do you need space?” Lena asked. “I could leave you alone for a bit. Look for a place when we get back, so I’m not on the couch all the time.”
“I don’t want you to leave,” Kara blurted, almost cutting her off. “I know I’ve been distant, it’s just… I keep looking at you and thinking about all the time I’ve lost and all the mistakes I’ve made and how I’ll regret it forever. We have so little time and I’m so scared I’ll lose you.”
Lena pulled back to look at her. “We have a long time to make more memories. As many as we can.”
“I’ll lose you too,” said Kara. “I know you want more. A family, a partner. You’ll start to have less time for me. You’ll all just fall away and I’ll be stuck here alone.”
“That’s not going to happen.”
“How can you say that?”
Kara started to pull away. Lena stopped her with a tug on her arms. It stunned her, sometimes, how she could overpower a god with her tiny human hands. How she could stun the other whirlwind or a touch.
“Kara,” said Lena. “I don’t want someone else. I want you.”
“Me?” Kara squeaked.
Lena cleared her throat. “I wanted to tell you at the wedding. I mean, I didn’t dress like that and go stag for the hell of it. I just lost my nerve and you seemed so overwhelmed.”
Kara blinked a few times.
“You want me?” said Kara.
Lena felt a cold rush of terror. She’d just blurted it out, artlessly, unplanned.
“Like want me want me? Like kissing want me?”
Lena licked her lips. “Yes. I’d like to kiss you right now, if you let me.”
Kara settled back into the table, leaning forward. Lena leaned in, pushing her back slightly, moving her hands from shoulders to hips, scoring the way Kara tensed and trembled. She was hardly inexperienced, Lena knew, but something about this felt like a first kiss, even for her. It tasted like one, too, down to the quivery way their lips met.
Kissing quickly became something more. Lena didn’t know if she was pulling or Kara pushing. It didn’t much matter; the path led to the bed in Kara’s room, marked by a trail of shed clothing.
Years of anticipation overwhelmed them both; dinner was forgotten, and they didn’t even emerge until the next day.
It was in the morning sun, the light turning Kara’s skin gold, that Lena saw it. Twisted within one of the curling locks of hair, splayed around Kara’s head on the pillow, was a faintly visible thread of purest silver, chased through the gold like an engraver’s masterpiece. Lena couldn’t help but twirl the errant strands around her finger.
As Kara slept, she looked up through the window and watched the wind as it caressed the leaves.

Night Visit
Locked up in Slabside for his actions as a vigilante, Oliver was simply surviving, as he always had been. That was until the day he received an unexpected visit.
An unusual noise disrupted the calm of the night. Oliver sat up carefully, his eyes wide open in the semi-darkness of his cell. Muffled voices. People walking down the corridors. This was strange, the guards patrolled alone at night, and if prisoners had somehow escaped their cells, they wouldn’t be chatting away but would try to be discrete. Intrigued and on guard, he sat on the edge of his bed, the cold concrete under his naked feet chasing away the last remnants of sleep.
Two figures recognizable at a glance appeared in his field of view through the bars and his jaw almost dropped in surprise. He had to resist the urge to pinch his arm in order to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. No way. These two idiots didn’t just break into the most secure jail of the country to help him escape.
“We should have gone by the control room to find out which cell he’s in.”
“No need, we’ll find him easily, super vision, remember?”
“If I used my speed, we would find him even faster.”
Oliver rolled his eyes and moved to the bars with muffled steps. They didn’t even have a well-established plan for their attempt to free him. These two were incorrigible.
“We’ve talked about it, you’re likely to wake everybody up by entering their cells and raising their sheets to see their faces.”
“Not to mention that some sights might scar you for life,” Oliver said.
Barry pulled a face in disgust before reacting and running up to his cell while Kara smiled from ear to ear as she came up at normal speed, carrying two boxes in her arms. The two superheroes seemed out of place with their colourful suits in this grey setting. They shouldn’t be here.
“You should leave,” Oliver said. “I can’t escape and become a fugitive, my family…”
“Yeah, yeah, we know, Dig explained everything,” Barry interrupted. “Is that how you greet your friends? Also, can we talk about the beard?”

Supercorptober Day 21: "Lavender"
Read on A03 instead
Lena stands in the hallway playing nervously with the key in her hands. A key she’s surprised she still has. She's stood in front of this exact door a hundred (a thousand?) times, used the key to let herself in at least a few dozen times, probably more - yet here she was, unable to force herself to turn the knob. She’s not really sure how long she stands there, but at some point, she finally takes a deep breath to steady herself, squares her shoulders, and lets herself into Kara’s apartment.
It hurts more than she expected it to, being back here. The last time she was in this apartment Lena had come to tell Kara she was wrong about Non Nocere, to ask for forgiveness - and then ended up with Alex’s gun pointed at her head. It’s not exactly a fond memory. Before that, it had been nearly half a year, back when Lena still came over for movie nights and cuddles on the couch. Before Lena found out about Kara’s secret identity in the worst possible way and everything went to shit.
And now Kara is gone. The apartment is quiet and achingly empty without the joyful sound of her laughter to fill it up. It’s been three days since Lena’s deranged half-brother sent Kara to the phantom zone - fucking Lex - and the super friends still have no idea how to rescue her. Lena’s not sure Kara would even want her here, with their friendship still on rocky terms, but she just needed something , some kind of connection, some reminder to keep her from giving up hope.
The apartment hasn’t changed all that much from what Lena remembers, at least as far as she can tell. She walks slowly around the space, taking in all the details she’s seen so many times before, but that suddenly carry so much more weight now because the details are so uniquely Kara. The fluffy blankets on the couch. A blue coffee mug on the kitchen counter with a red supergirl logo and yellow writing that says “Have a SUPER day!” (a gift from Nia), and another mug next to it covered in a pattern of brightly colored donuts. The easel in the corner with some of Kara’s paintings propped against the legs and her box of painting supplies next to it. The assortment of different sized picture frames scattered throughout the spacious loft on various tables and shelves, filled with smiling photos of Kara’s family and friends. Lena stops short when she realizes the picture of her and Kara together is gone from the shelf where it used to sit. It shouldn’t surprise her, after all the hurt she caused, but it still stings - more than it should, considering Lena smashed her own framed picture of them with a whiskey glass. She squeezes her eyes shut and forces herself to swallow the lump forming in her throat.
For whatever reason, Lena decides to wander past the partition into the space Kara uses as her bedroom, running her hand over the familiar blue and green patterned comforter on Kara’s bed. When she glances at the bedside table, she feels her heart stop. Kara didn’t get rid of the picture of her and Lena - it’s right there, on the table next to her bed. Right where she would see it every morning and every night. But why? Why would she want to look at that after everything?
It’s all of a sudden too much for Lena, and she sinks down heavily on the edge of the bed. She can’t stop the hiccuping sob that claws its way out of her chest or the tears gathering in the corners of her eyes, so she grabs one of Kara’s pillows and squeezes it to her body as tight as she can. As she does, her nose tingles with the lingering scent of lavender and vanilla. Kara. Years of being best friends (years of being in love with her best friend), Lena knows that scent, one she used to breathe in and try to memorize every time she and Kara shared a hug or snuggled up on the couch together.
She’d give anything to hug Kara again.
The sharp pang of her anguish cuts into her like a knife twisting in her stomach, and suddenly she feels like she is drowning under a tidal wave of emotions. She clutches desperately at Kara’s pillow and rocks herself back and forth, while she cries deep gasping sobs that feel like they are being ripped from her lungs. Her eyes burn from the hot tears that are now streaming relentlessly down her face, dripping onto the pillow and sliding down her neck to soak the collar of her shirt. Once again, she feels like her heart is being cracked open, but this, this is infinitely more painful. This isn’t just some fight between friends, this is her possibly losing Kara forever. She doesn’t think she can live with that possibility.
“I’m so sorry Kara.” Lena chokes out between labored breaths. “I’m so so sorry. This is all my fault. I promise I’ll find a way to bring you home. I promise.” Her voice cracks on the last words, her throat so raw she can barely speak above a whisper.
Lena cries until exhaustion wins out, until her body hurts as much as her heart, and she has no more tears left to cry. When her breathing finally returns to normal, she decides it’s time to pull herself together and go back to her own apartment. She can’t stay here any longer, it’s just too painful of a reminder of Kara’s absence, and Lena needs to be focused if she’s going to help the team find their missing friend. She breathes in one more deep breath of the lavender and vanilla scented pillow, trying to commit the smell to memory before she leaves.
She’s about to walk out the door when she stops herself. She turns around and walks back to the couch, where she picks up one of the fluffy blankets Kara always keeps there. One they used to share, with popcorn, and chinese takeout, and hot chocolate, and stories about their respective days. One that still smells like Kara. She takes it with her so she can have just one little piece of Kara to hold onto, a reminder of what she used to have, of who she is still fighting for.
———
When Lena gets back to her penthouse, she carefully removes the picture of her and Kara from the broken frame and puts it in a new one. She falls asleep with Kara’s blanket wrapped around her and the picture clutched to her chest.
———
Lena returns to Kara’s loft a week later when the blanket finally loses its scent. Kara is still gone, and the apartment is still too quiet and lifeless. Lena’s heart still feels like it’s been hacked open by a dull axe.
She lets herself curl up on the couch for a moment, finding the other blanket she had left here last time and pulling it tightly around her, breathing in the familiar smell. She imagines Kara cozying up on the couch next to her, socked feet tucked under her legs, her head resting on Lena’s shoulder, blonde hair tickling her neck. She thinks about all the times she wished their cuddling would turn into something more, how she wished she could have had the courage to tell Kara how she felt.
“Kara…” she pleads to the void. “Please come back Kara. I’m so sorry. For everything. I miss you so much.”
“Please… I love you.”
The blanket is wet with tears when the whispered confession floats away into the silence of the empty apartment.
———
Lena ends up staying at Kara’s apartment. She told herself it would be too painful, but it turns out her crippling misery was determined to follow her no matter where she went. So she surrenders, and just lets herself be surrounded by everything Kara. It hurts, but there are also happy memories here, ones Lena wants to hold close to her heart for as long as possible.
———
Another week and a half drags by, and then by some miracle, the super friends are finally able to rescue Kara from the phantom zone (with help from Lena’s yellow sun grenades, which she is very proud of, as she should be). When Kara stumbles onto the ship and collapses into her sister’s arms, everyone can tell that she is physically and emotionally drained. There’s no time for pleasantries or conversation - Kara needs to be taken as quickly as possible to the med bay for a full exam and to get her onto a yellow sun bed so her body can begin to heal.
It’s two full days later when Kara is finally recovered enough for the super friends to throw her a welcome back party at the Tower. Meanwhile, Lena’s anxiety is at an all-time high. Her and Kara’s friendship was in a shaky place when everything went down with Lex, and Lena doesn’t know if Kara blames her for what happened. She doesn’t know what Kara may have experienced in the phantom zone and how that might affect her. Trauma does strange things to people, Lena knows that from firsthand experience. Is Kara even the same person anymore? Will Kara still want Lena in her life?
The first positive sign is that when Kara enters the common room to the sight of donuts, flowers, balloons, and her friends and family gathered around, her face immediately breaks out into a genuine Kara Danvers smile, all full of white teeth, dimples on display and eyes crinkling at the corners. She still seems a bit tired and perhaps a little more reserved than usual, but otherwise very much still herself, and everyone breathes a collective sigh of relief.
Kara works her way around the room exchanging hugs, each team member expressing their joy at having her back, and Kara expressing her own joy and gratitude in return. Lena is the last one left, and she feels her heart flutter and her throat go dry when Kara’s eyes meet hers. The superhero nods her head towards Lena with a fond smile and her arms open wide, and it takes all of Lena’s willpower to force herself to walk when all she wants to do is run at full speed into Kara’s warm embrace. When their bodies finally meet and they melt into each other, everything feels right again. Like all the empty spaces in Lena’s heart are being filled back up and every ache and pain in her soul is being soothed by Kara’s presence. She’s home. She’s home. She’s finally home.
“It’s only because you’re on the team that I’m here,” Kara murmurs in Lena’s ear. She squeezes her so tightly it almost hurts, but Lena just squeezes back as tightly as her own strength will allow her. She feels the tears sliding down her cheeks and takes a deep breath through her sniffles, trying her best to hold herself together. When Kara finally pulls back, she pauses for a moment, her hands drifting to Lena’s shoulders. She cocks her head to the side and looks at Lena with a soft smile on her face and a gentle question in her eyes. “Your scent… vanilla and lavender…?”
Lena knows exactly what she is asking, because Lena usually smells like her expensive perfume, or her coconut and hibiscus scented shampoo. And there are a thousand ways Lena wants to answer that question, a thousand things she wants to tell Kara that she can’t put into words just yet. So she tries to pour all her emotions into a single sentence, and hopes Kara understands. She bites her lip to stop it from quivering and gives a tiny shrug, before she answers in a small shaky voice. “I really missed you.” She ducks her head down and tries to swallow, her throat constricted with emotion. She gathers what courage she can to open herself up, to lift her head and make another confession, whispered so softly only Kara can hear her. “The only thing that kept me going was the hope that I would get to see you again.”
Kara is silent for a minute as she stares into Lena’s glassy green eyes, her own tear-brimmed blue eyes searching Lena’s face for some hidden truth. Lena wills her to find it, to see all the love Lena holds in her heart for her. She wills Kara to hear the way that same heart is currently hammering against her ribs, even while it feels like it's stuck in her throat.
When it seems like Kara has found what she is looking for, she whispers back, her own voice cracking just a little. “I really missed you too.”
There’s a weight to the way Kara says it, the words feeling charged with hidden significance. Lena's thoughts go to the picture of them she found on Kara’s nightstand, and wonders - could she…? Now it’s her turn to search Kara’s face for answers, and as she does, she finds herself looking into a longing gaze, blue eyes filled with overwhelming affection, and sparking with a sudden fire she’s never seen before. Kara moves her right hand from Lena’s shoulder to softly cup the side of her face, her thumb gently wiping away a tear from her cheek. Lena lets her eyes flutter closed for a second as she leans into the warm touch. There’s a moment between them, a low buzzing electric current connecting their bodies, air thick with anticipation, a silent conversation with their eyes. Kara's eyes flit to Lena's lips, nodding her head almost imperceptibly, and then she leans her body closer to Lena’s, drawing them both towards the inevitable.
The collision course they are on is abruptly derailed by Alex, completely oblivious to the moment of intimacy she just interrupted. “Apologies from Kelly, she really wishes she could be here, but she had a full day of orientation at Social Services.”
Lena reluctantly steps back to allow the sisters to talk, but she can’t help noticing the way Kara's shoulders droop ever so slightly, and the look of disappointment on her face. A sentiment Lena definitely shares.
(What she doesn’t see is the way Alex glances between her and Kara, and the fleeting moment of realization in the older Danvers’ eyes, followed immediately by a quick flash of guilt, as she puts two and two together).
The moment is over though. Conversation moves on, and everyone goes about their business as if nothing happened. And as far as everyone is concerned, nothing did happen - only Lena and Kara are privy to the wordless declarations that passed between them.
But it did happen, and it gives Lena hope. More hope than she’s had in a long time. And she knows there are conversations to be had. Her and Kara need to talk about their fight, and how to trust each other again. Lena should probably explain why she was sleeping in Kara’s apartment. Clearly they need to discuss the feelings it seems they both have for each other, with actual words this time. (though perhaps some of those feelings could be expressed in other ways…)
She knows Kara will need to heal from the emotional and physical trauma of being in the phantom zone, and that alone could prove to be a difficult obstacle to overcome. There’s still a long road ahead of them, and most likely not an easy one.
But for now, Kara is home, and that’s enough.

I find MBTI amusing, and while trying to figure out Lena Luthor's type, I discovered she's categorized as an INTJ. I admit that at first, it didn't seem quite accurate, but as I observed more and more interactions with other characters, especially with Kara Danvers, I had to agree. Sometimes bossy, focused on her goals, often labeled as evil... but with Kara Danvers/Supergirl, it's a 'do anything for her' situation because us INTJs are like that when we find our favorite person; that person becomes our comfort person. I understood Lena's constant need to hug Kara at almost every opportunity they meet because she's her comfort person... and I love that ♥️

a the virgin suicides supercorp au because it’s my newest obsession!!!
you’re the piece of gold that flashes on my soul
And though I'd been to parties, and kissed lots of girls, and drank my weight in alcoholic beverages to try and forget about Lena, and yet every time I closed my eyes I saw her, in her white dress, impossibly thin, paler than the moon. And every time I tried to follow her I’d wake up, startled. Everyone dated the demise of our neighbourhood from Lena’s cry for help. People saw their clairvoyance in the wiped-out elms, the harsh sunlight, the continuing decline of our auto industry. The tortures tearing Lena pointed to a simple reasoned refusal to accept the world as it was handed down to her, so full of flaws. But the only thing we are certain of after all these years is the insufficiency of explanations. In the end it did not matter how young she was, or that she was a girl. But only that I had loved her and she had loved me, and she had not heard me, still does not hear me calling out to her out of rooms I’d occupied in all my time in her absence.

Musician Age Gap AU pt 2
Kara blinks, suddenly dumbstruck. Esme's t-shirt didn't do the woman justice. Her eyes catch briefly on a sharp jawline before being captivated by warm green eyes.
"Uhm, sorry, I-- I didn't mean..." Kara struggles with her words in a way she hasn't in years. "Are you--?"
"Yup," Lena confirms with a drawl, but her smile doesn't leave her lips. "Do I need to call security?"
"What? No! No, of course not, I didn't mean to barge-- I swear I wasn't looking for you."
Lena accepts the blithering answer at face value. "Good. It would be to have you thrown out before the show."
Sure enough, underneath her gray zip up hoodie Kara spies a flash of a silver bedazzled dress.
"I mean. For the record, you should." As soon as she says it, Kara picks up steam, suddenly angry on the artist's behalf. "I shouldn't have been able to get anywhere close to you---"
"It's okay," Lena assures her. "You don't look the type to be looking for an autograph."
Kara huffs, but finds a small smile creeping over her face. "No," she confirms. "I got lost."
One of Lena's eyebrows lifts.
"Well, first I got locked in the stairwell. Which is against code, by the way. And *then* I got lost."
Lena smirks, picking up her phone and typing out a short message. "Security," she explains.
"Oh."
"They'll be able to help you find your way better than I can."
Relief floods Kara, and then a thrill of excitement when Lena's smile broadens to a grin.
"You here with someone?"
Kara nods. "My goddaughter, Esme. She, uh.... she loves you. Rather a lot, actually."
"Tell her hi for me."
"I will-- oh! Shit, you've got a signal down here!" Kara fumbles her phone and her ticket, and in her rush to fire off a note to Esme promising to be there soon, doesn't notice when the ticket slips from her palm.
"Sorry," Kara rambles. "Damn. She's probably eaten all the nachos by now."
At that, Lena laughs, just as a hulking figure appears in the doorway behind Kara. "Yes, ma'am?"
"Hi Ryan," Lena greets, voice still full of mirth. "Miss, uh..."
"Danvers. Kara Danvers," Kara blurts.
"Miss Kara Danvers here got a little turned around. Would you mind showing her to where she needs to go?"
"Of course, ma'am."
Lena nods approvingly. When her gaze returns to Kara, Kara can't help but notice the brief glance that flicks over her, and the consequent blush that blooms in the younger woman's cheeks.
"I've got fifteen until places," Lena tells her. Her voice is smooth and low, velvet in the cinderblock room. "I'm sorry we can't chat more, but I'm sure Esme is worried about you."
Kara nods, swallowing. "Right. Um... thank you."
"My pleasure." Lena's crinkle at the corners. "Lovely to meet you."
"You too," Kara issues, turning to follow Ryan out the door and into the hall. It's not until the door shuts behind them that Kara realizes how hard her heart is thumping, or the tremble in her fingers.
"Jesus," she mutters, giving her hand a shake.
"Which level, Miss Danvers?"
"Second mezzanine, restrooms near the food vendors."
Ryan escorts her until Kara spots Esme, at which point he departs with her thanks. Esme dashes towards her, eyes wide. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," Kara promises, giving her a hug. "Just got turned around. Sorry for taking so long."
"Come on!" Esme urges, already moving on from the subject. "We've got to get to our seats!"
Kara trails closely behind her goddaughter as they move towards the stands, but her thoughts remain with the raven haired woman two flights below.
Maybe tonight would be special after all.

✐ Only Human | Kara Danvers ✎

Pairing: Kara Danvers x reader
Warnings: minor injuries, mentions of blood
Summary: Proposing to Kara doesn’t go quite as planned because in all her excitement she forgets you’re only human. . .
________________________________________________
Midvale is a beautiful town. The pine trees along the road are a luscious green and the few lakes I’ve spotted here and there on my drive glitter invitingly in the late summer sun.
I turn down another empty road and take a deep breath of the salty ocean air. I have the window rolled down and the radio turned up, smiling from ear to ear at the prospect of seeing Kara and her family again.
We’re taking some time off from work and superhero-ing and decided staying at Eliza’s would be the best way to relax and reconnect with each other and the rest of the Danvers family.
Things have been busy lately, especially at my job because I’m up for a promotion, which is also why I didn’t drive here with Alex and Kelly two days ago.
Kara flew, getting Alex and Kelly to take her bags with them.
I continue driving a couple more minutes, humming to the song on the radio until Eliza’s familiar beach house comes into view.
The sun has just gone down which leaves a faint orange hue across the sky and I smile when I see the lights turned on inside the house.
I pull into the driveway, turn off the car and roll up the windows before getting out and rounding the car to get my bag from the trunk.
“You made it!”
Alex’s voice makes me look up and I smile instantly when my eyes land on her standing in the open doorway with a glass of wine in her hand.
“Alex!” I beam and jog up the stairs to the door to pull her into a tight hug. “I missed you.”
Alex squeezes me with one arm and holds her wineglass away from our bodies with the other, pulling back with a smile of her own. “I missed you, too. Did you get everything you need?”
I nod and hold up my bag for reference, feeling nerves bubble up in the pit of my stomach at the thought of the small velvet box stuffed between my shirts.
You see, being stuck at work wasn’t the only reason I didn’t take Alex and Kelly up on their offer of carpooling. My jeweler called me the day before we were supposed to leave and told me there had been some delay on the ring I commissioned.
So, I had no other choice but to postpone my departure and because Alex didn’t buy my half-lie of being stuck at work a little while longer I came clean and told her all about my plans of proposing.
She was ecstatic, going on a rant about how my idea of doing it on the beach was perfect and how happy she was for Kara for having someone like me.
“Perfect. Now, come on in. We finished dinner a while ago, but there’s still some leftovers in the kitchen.” She offers to take my bag up to Kara’s childhood bedroom and I accept with an embarrassed smile when my stomach grumbles loudly.
“Y/N!”
Kelly is the first to notice me when I step into the living room. She just came in from the porch outside where Eliza and Kara are sitting on cushioned Adirondack chairs wrapped in throw blankets.
“Hi. It’s good to see you again,” I say with a smile, accepting the gentle hug she pulls me into. “How have you been? How’s work?”
“I’ve been great. Work is. . . Well, it’s work, what can I say?” she laughs before adding, “But I do love my job, so there’s really not that much I can complain about. How are you? I heard you’re up for a promotion.”
“I’m good, and yeah I am up for a promotion, but my boss said—“
A shriek makes my head whip around and I only see a flash of blonde hair before my favorite person launches herself into my arms, sending me stumbling backward. “My baby!”
I laugh breathlessly and grab the kitchen counter to regain my balance. “Jesus. . .”
The blonde wraps her legs around my waist and peppers my face with kisses. “Not Jesus, just Kara.”
I smile incredulously and glance at Kelly for some kind of explanation as to why Kara’s acting like this, but the older woman just shrugs and watches the scene unfold in front of her with a fond look in her eyes.
“What on Earth has gotten into you, my love?” I chuckle and squeeze the back of Kara’s thighs to get her to look at me.
Her blue eyes shine with love and I’m almost convinced she’s simply happy to see me but then she kisses me and I’m met with the taste of alien liquor on her lips. “N’thing,” she slurs with a dopey grin. “‘M jus’ happy to see you.”
“Mhmm, I can tell,” I tease which makes her frown comically.
“Hey, don’t be mean.” She pouts, but I’m quick to kiss it away with a couple of pecks.
“There. Better?” I ask and she nods, draping her arms loosely around my shoulders before unwrapping her legs from around my waist. I let her slide down my body and tuck her hair behind her ears.
“Much, thank you.” She leans into my touch and closes her eyes briefly before looking up at me with an adoring, yet slightly drunk look on her face.
It makes my insides melt and I can’t help but dip my head down to press another kiss to her lips, savoring the way my lips tingle at the contact before whispering, “Hello, darling. How are you?”
Kara tightens her arms around my shoulders and hides her face against the side of my neck. “Perfect now that you’re her.”
She sounds surprisingly sober which means that the effects of the alien liquor must already be wearing off. It gets her drunk pretty quickly but because of her fast metabolism it also gets absorbed easily, making the high intense but short-lived.
I kiss the top of her head, another smile growing on my face when I catch Eliza’s eyes outside. She smiles and waves at me, mouthing a “hi!”, just as my stomach growls again.
“Have you had something to eat yet?” Kara pulls back to look at me.
I shake my head. “Not yet, but Alex said something about leftovers?”
Kara goes to answer but Kelly beats her to it. “Why don’t you head outside and I’ll get you some? I was heading to the kitchen anyway to grab a glass of water.”
“Oh that’s nice, but I can—“
“Thanks, Kelly!” Kara interrupts cheerfully and tugs on my hand to lead me onto the porch.
I chuckle and look over my shoulder to thank Kelly before greeting Eliza properly.
She hugs me, asking about the drive here before Kara tugs on my hand again, pulling me onto the chair she occupied earlier and plopping down on my lap.
The view of the ocean is spectacular as the last hues of orange disappear to make way for the starry night sky.
I get lost in the sight for a moment, enjoying the feeling of Kara snuggled up against me as she chats with Eliza until Kelly returns with a steaming bowl of food and a glass of water.
She hands me the bowl and puts the glass down on the small table in the middle of the chairs and returns to her own seat.
Kara shifts so I can eat with her still in my arms and continues talking to her mom and Kelly.
Alex joins us a second later, taking a seat on the chair next to her wife’s and chimes in on the current conversation which I’m not particularly paying attention to.
I’m tired from driving and simply focus on the kryptonian warmth Kara is emitting and eating Eliza’s delicious chilly until the bowl is empty and my eyelids are drooping.
“You tired?” Kara whispers when I try to stifle a yawn. She sounds and looks completely sober now, playing with the collar of my shirt absentmindedly.
“Yeah, and I’d really like to shower before bed,” I admit quietly so as to not interrupt the story Alex is currently telling of her time in med school.
“Okay then,” she says getting to her feet slowly and pulling me up with her.
Eliza’s eyes dart in our direction at the movement and when she sees the exhaustion on my face she smiles sympathetically.
“. . . And then that lady just vomited all over me. I honestly thought I was going to throw up right on top of her, too, but I managed to run out before that happened,” Alex finished her story and all of us gag at the thought of being thrown up on ourselves.
“You guys going to bed?” Eliza asks once everyone has calmed down again.
I nod, feeling Kara playing with my fingers. “Yeah. It’s been a long day. Thank you for dinner. It was delicious, as always.”
Elize smiles bashfully. “Thank you, dear. Good night.”
“G’night.” I nod at Alex and Kelly and go to take my bowl inside, but Eliza tells me to just leave it.
Then, it’s just me and Kara, making out way inside and up to her childhood bedroom.
She used to share a room with Alex, but when Jeremiah passed, they turned his study into a bedroom for her.
“How was your day, darling?” I ask once we get to the room.
Kara closes the door behind us and jumps on the bed, having already changed into her pajamas before I got here.
“Quiet,” she says, taking off her glasses.
I hum in understanding and go to my bag to grab a change of clothes and my toothbrush. The city is loud, even for a human like me, so I know what she means when she says it’s quiet up here in Midvale. Yes, she can still hear heartbeats a mile away, but the constant buzz of the city is missing and I can only imagine what a relief it must be to get away from all of it for a while.
“How was the drive?” she asks. She gets under the covers and pulls the comforter up to her chest.
“There was some traffic, but it wasn’t too bad. I’m just glad I’m here now.” I smile tiredly and take a seat on the edge of the mattress next to her.
“I’m glad you’re here, too. What do you want to do tomorrow?” she asks, tracing the shape of my brow with a finger before dropping her hand in her lap again.
“Go to the beach, maybe? And then have some dinner at Mike’s,” I suggest. I know I want to propose, I just don’t know when yet, so I’ll just see how everything goes and then do it whenever it feels right.
“Sounds good.” Kara leans forward to peck my cheek and shoos me away. “Now go shower so we can cuddle.”
I chuckle and squeeze her leg over the comforter. Then I grab my clothes and head to the bathroom down the hall.
I shower, wash my face and brush my teeth before heading back to the bedroom with a yawn.
I expect Kara to be in bed where I left her, but when I enter the room she’s crouched on the floor next to the bed with her back turned to me.
“What are you doing?” I ask with a confused smile, turning to put my dirty clothes in the hamper behind the door.
Kara doesn’t say anything which makes me frown and turn back around to see her now facing me with tears in her eyes.
“What’s wrong?!” I rush across the room and kneel in front of her. I lift my hands, wanting to cup her cheeks but then her eyes drop to her lap and I follow her gaze with my own.
Oh shit. . .
Clutched between her fingers is an all too familiar, small, black box.
We both look back up at the same time and when our teary eyes meet I can’t help but smile sheepishly.
“Surprise?” I whisper. My heart is pounding in my chest and I feel like throwing up when Kara stays silent.
Her eyes dart between mine and for a second, when a tear runs down her cheek, I think even just the thought of proposing to her was ridiculous because she obviously doesn’t want to be with me like that.
But then she finally speaks, her voice shaky and quiet.“Ask me.”
My eyebrows dart up knowing surprise and I swallow thickly. “Are you sure?”
She nods as another tear runs down her cheek, but this time she smiles softly and pushes the box into my hands.
“O-Okay.” I get to my feet and pull her with me, only to drop back down on one knee in front of her. “Kara. . . I— This isn’t how I thought this was going to go, but here we are I guess. . .”
Kara smiles, teary eyed, and wipes at her cheeks. Her blue eyes are trained on me and her hands twitch as I speak, showing how much effort it takes for her not to reach out and touch me.
“I love you, Kara,” I start, my voice shaking with emotion. “I’ve loved you ever since you spilled your coffee all over me at Noonan’s and I love you now, standing here in your pajamas. You are beautiful and smart and the size of your heart leaves me utterly and completely speechless sometimes. The last five years have shown me what it is like to love someone, and be loved by someone wholeheartedly and I can’t imagine not spending the rest of my life with you.
“You once told me that being with you was dangerous because you’re Supergirl, but since I’ve known you I’ve never felt safer. You always have my back and I hope when you’re with me you feel even just a fraction of the sense of security you make me feel.” I take a deep breath and open the box carefully to reveal the sparkling ring inside. It’s a simple gold band with a princess-cut diamond sitting on top of it.
Kara’s eyes widen at the sight—even though she knew it was coming—and lifts one of her hands to cover her mouth in shock.
“So. . . Will you marry me, Kara Zor-El?” I whisper.
“Yes.” The reply is immediate and within a second she surges forward to kiss me. The impact of her lips on mine is so forceful, it makes me topple over with a groan and sends a stinging pain through my face.
“Shit.” I cringe and break the kiss immediately, bringing my hand up to my nose only to pull it back and see that it’s now covered in blood.
“Rao, I’m sorry.” Kara’s scrambles to get off me and helps me sit up before inspecting my nose. “Shit, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
A new wave of tears makes its way down her cheeks, but they’re no longer tears of joy. Regret and guilt is written all over her face and when I wince, scrunching my nose, she backs up even more so she’s no longer touching me.
“Hey, no. It’s okay.” I wince again, but try to focus on Kara instead of the pain. I crawl forward and touch her chin with my clean hand, the open ring box on the floor next to us. “It’s not like this is the first time this has happened,” I try to joke, but it falls flat.
“Y/N, I—“
“No.” I push a finger to her lips. “I know you didn’t mean to hurt me, and I’m already feeling better, see? It’s not even bleeding anymore.”
Kara looks up with red-rimmed eyes, the guilt still evident on her face. “But—“
“No buts, baby,” I say with a smile. I grab the box off the floor and take the ring out before holding it up to Kara’s face. “Do you still want to marry me?”
She nods and wipes at her eyes again. “Of course.”
“Good.” I take her hand and, after waiting for another nod, slip the ring onto her finger. “Then that’s all that matters right now.”
Kara stares at the ring and I watch in awe as the heartbreak slowly melts off her face. It’s replaced by adoration and love and when she catches me staring at her, her lips twitch into a tentative smile.
“I love you,” she whispers, lifting a hand to brush her fingers against my cheek. “And I can’t wait to marry you.”
“I love you, too, and I will do everything in my power to give you the wedding you deserve.” I lean into her touch and grab her other hand, kissing the ring on her finger.
Shaking her head, Kara gently rests her forehead against my own. “I don’t need anything fancy. I just want you there.” I smile and tilt my head, wanting to close the distance between us, but a hand on my chest stops me. “Let’s get your face cleaned first.”
I huff playfully but agree, letting her help me to my feet before she pulls me to the bathroom.
I take a seat on the edge of the tub as Kara wets a towel.
“Tell me if I hurt you,” she says and I nod, closing my eyes as she gets to work cleaning the blood off my face. “Well, your nose is not broken, but it will probably bruise.”
“It’s okay. Like I said, it’s not our first rodeo.” This time, Kara cracks a smile and when I pull her to stand in between my legs, she drops the bloodied towel and leans down to capture my lips in a sweet kiss.
Her hands land on the side of my face, making me shiver when I feel the ring against my cheek.
“Let’s go to bed,” she says when we break apart. At the mention of going to sleep, I yawn which makes her giggle.
I change out of my bloodied top and go to throw on a clean shirt, only to freeze when I remember that the ring was at the bottom of my bag and I have yet to ask why Kara was going through it in the first place.
“Hey, can I ask you something?” I zip my bag and put on the shirt before joining Kara in the bed.
“Sure.” She snuggles up to me and places her hand on my chest, admiring the ring in the dim light of the bedside lamp.
“Why were you going through my bag?” I ask gently, not wanting to sound accusing.
Blushing furiously, Kara hides her face in the crook of my neck. “I wanted to steal one of your hoodies.”
I laugh and pull her closer. “Of course you did.“
Kara chuckles too and once our laughter has died down, she rolls over to turn off the light before returning to my side.
“I love you,” she whispers against my collarbone. “And I can’t wait to tell everyone that we’re going to get married.”
“I love you, too. . . Fiancée.” I run my hand up and down her back and shiver when the action earns me a kiss against my throat.
“Mhmm, Fiancée.” Kara exhales loudly and snuggles even closer before going still. “I like the sound of that.”
“Me too,” I admit and before long I fall asleep with a smile on my face.

Your what??
Kara Danvers x gn! reader
Summary: Kara starts acting weird and you're confused, but Kara is confused as to why you're acting the same as always.
Warnings: nothing really
A.N. have this while I finished the requests
Word count: 3280

-
Kara has been acting... different, lately, not so different to the point you'd think something was wrong, but enough to the point you'd notice.
She was also only acting this way towards you, which made it harder for you to say something. Anytime you tried to bring it up, everyone always claimed nothing changed.
But then again, she was still her usual cheerful self, so you didn't question it.
"Alex, John said he was looking for you" the agent stopped talking with you to turn around and look at her sister.
"oh yea, we still need to interrogate Will" Alex said, referring to the guy you and Supergirl just captured "we'll let you know if he talks" she assured, walking out of the room and closing the door behind her.
You then noticed Kara quickly skipping towards you, causing a smile to form on your face. "are you ready to go home?"
Being the only two in the room of the DEO made it possible for her to use your real name.
"home?" you questioned, watching how she started playing with her fingers, her confident act dropping in the comfort of the empty room.
"yea I thought since I don't have to work tomorrow, you could come sleep at mine" your amused smirk caused her to ramble even more "we don't have to do anything, I just thought it would be fun to spend the night together"
This was the shift in behavior you noticed, still chirpy, still Kara Danvers like, just...more affectionate, in a way.
"I have something to take care of at work tomorrow morning" you never had sleepovers, so you didn't understand the reason behind her frown, and how she lowered her head taking her bottom lip between her teeth.
But it still made you feel bad.
You took one step closer and left a soft kiss on top of her head "we can have lunch together when I'm done?"
You let out a sigh of relief when she eagerly nodded, replacing her frown with a smile. You smiled back, before walking past her to get out of the room.
As you opened the door however, her voice stopped you.
"do you think I can, maybe, tell Alex?" she turned around to see your perplexed expression. "you know, she's my sister and I want to-"
"of course" you nodded, albeit confused "why couldn't you?"
"I was just, making sure" she shrugged, her cheeks tainted a light shade of pink "thank you"
And she said it so sweetly you couldn't help but chuckle. "bye Kara"
"bye, Y/N" she replied when you were already out of the room.
- - - -
"hi"
You raised your head from your phone to find Kara smiling at you. As you got up to give her a quick side hug, to which she responded with both of her arms around you, you noticed she was alone.
You were about to ask if Alex was going to be late or if she couldn't come at all, but the blonde stopped you with a question of her own.
"can i sit next to you?" you briefly looked at the booth in front of you, occupied only by her bag, then turned to look at her.
"uh, sure" you spoke up after a second, making room for her to seat.
"how was work?" she made no move to grab the menu in front of her, instead leaning on your side when you opened yours, putting her head on your shoulder.
"uh, good" you hesitated again, causing Kara to distance herself from you with a worried expression
"oh I'm sorry" she must have realized the position she was in, and how you didn't reciprocate the affectionate touch "do you want me to sit across from you?"
You thought it over. You have never been a really touchy person, and Kara's sudden but constant affection was obviously weird; but the way she always seemed attentive to your reactions, like this moment, and the softness of her hands whenever she wanted to hold yours, you didn't exactly hate it. You quite liked it.
"no, it's fine" you cleared you throat, and felt the weight of her head going back on your shoulder. "it's just...new"
And Kara chuckled, adjusting the glasses that almost fell with the new position. "yea, I bet it is"
- - - -
A few days later, while Kara was texting you about a new movie she'd like to go watch with you, Alex called you both over at the DEO because the alien you captured a week ago escaped.
As soon as you got there you felt two strong arms engulfing you in a hug, a familiar scent invading your senses. "hello, partner" Supergirl whispered. The hug ended before you could register it ever happening, as her hand slid down your arm to take a hold of your own. "come on, we're waiting for you"
Bringing Will back proved to be fairly easy, they had enough intel on him to predict where he was heading to.
But it hadn't been...pretty. or dry.
"you brought him back just in time, we put a guard outside of his cell until we know what to do with him" John stood tall with his hands on his hips. Then his gaze shifted on your drenched hair, and your even more drenched suit, offering you a sympathetic, and dare you say proud, smile.
"good job you two"
He didn't wait for you to thank him, and walked off.
Droplets of water kept on falling from the tips of your hair down to your nose and onto your eyelashes, making you continuously blink them away.
"I better get going, I'd rather not catch a-" You raised your head from the ground when you heard rustling and heels clicking on the floor from the other side of the room.
Your back instantly felt warmer, red cape around your shoulders.
"you know I can't get sick, I could have jumped into the river to catch him" she almost wanted to laugh at his desperate attempt to hide "you didn't have to"
She saw how you crossed you arms tighter every time a shiver run up your spine, so she brought her hands to your biceps, gently squeezing, and felt you shrugging your shoulders.
"I know," you softly smile "but I didn't want you to get your hair wet" and she instantly glanced back at yours "it looks like you put a lot of effort in it"
Kara raised her eyebrows, giggling at your words "is that a compliment?"
You shrugged a second time, but your answer was wiped away by a soft sneeze, and a shiver right after it.
"okay that's it, go home" she firmly stated, tapping your biceps twice before letting her arms fall to her sides. "you can give it to me tomorrow at game night" instead of helping you remove her cape like you intended to do, Kara clasped it tighter around you so it wouldn't fall on your way home. "you're coming right?"
there was a light uncertainty in her voice, but you didn't catch it
"I want my partner to be there"
You never missed a game night since she invited you the first time, unless you had important work to do.
"of course, unless I get-" you covered your face when another sneeze hit you "sick"
- - - -
Thankfully a warm bath and a deep sleep prevented you from getting sick, even if the hardest task was convincing Kara you didn't need her to come over and bring you soup.
As you got off your phone with one of your coworker to delegate your work, you didn't have time to knock on the door as it flew open right before your eyes.
"I heard you talking" Kara was standing in front of you with a smile on her face, whispering the words in case you were still on your phone.
You quickly greeted her and reached inside of your backpack. "it's a bit wrinkled I'm sorry, I didn't want people to see me walking around with Supergirl's cape in hand"
She took it from your hands and moved it to the side so it wouldn't be in the way when she leaned in to give you a hug.
Alex came up behind her and called your name, while Kara got back to her room to put the cape away.
"hey" Alex's arms wrapped themselves around you, it wasn't a bad hug, but it felt lighter than when her sister did it. And you had a feeling it wasn't because of the kryptonian strength.
"hi" she glanced back at the room where everyone was carelessly chatting before turning back to you, lowering her tone. "Kara told me."
Told her...told her what?
"and you know she's my sister, so this is my duty" she stopped, raising the beer in her hand, completely unaware of your confused expression "to tell you that if you dare-"
She was stopped however by the rest of group calling your names, so the -game- part in game night could finally happen.
So when she assured you this wasn't over, with a seemingly threatening tone you might add, you could only hope for some clarity.
It was a few hours later when the excitement died down, and the night turned into light conversations and soft tones, where sleepiness started to make itself present.
Except for you, Alex, and Brainy, intent on playing a very competitive Mario kart race on Kara's tv.
You and Alex were fighting for the first place, while Brainy was a few seconds away, in fifth place.
"you know I haven't forgotten about our talk right?" Alex spoke up as a mean to distract you, a smirk playing on her lips.
You let your eyes move to her for a second, and decided to play the part "okay, what do you want to tell me?"
She shook her head, not falling into your trap. Instead, she leaned into your side and bumped her shoulder with yours, making you grip the controller tighter.
"come on Danvers, that's all you got?" you noticed on the little map in the corner of the screen Brainy's character being surpassed by two cars, making you glance at the man to make a witty remark.
You didn't have time to open your mouth however, as Alex used your distraction to push your character off a cliff.
Your groan joined her proud laugh, but it didn't last long, as she soon found herself in the air, hit by a blue shell.
Courtesy of Brainy.
"Brainy!"
"I didn't mean to hit you" he said, and he sounded genuine "I meant to hit Luigi in front of me, why did hit you?"
Thankfully Nia explained it to him, so you and Alex could focus on the race "the red shell hits the person ahead of you, the blue shell hits the person in first place" after his nod, she put her head back on his shoulder.
You and Alex were once again head-to-head, while Brainy was quickly catching up, now in fourth place; and just as you were about to reach the finish line you paused the game; the loud complaints of your opponents startling those who weren't playing, especially Nia, who sleepily rubbed her eyes.
But you gave them no thought, and turned your head to look at the blonde who tapped your shoulder.
She had a light blush on her cheeks as everyone's eyes were now on the two of you. So she opted to whisper, hoping no one other than her sister, who was still leaning into your side, could hear.
"can you stay for a bit later? for..you know" Kara had one thing in mind, Alex had another, judging by her disgusted expression, while your head was completely blank.
But once again, you didn't have time to voice your confusion, as Alex pressed a button on your controller, resuming the game.
You whipped your head to the tv but it was already too late as the agent finished in first place with you in second place, followed by Brainy. "oh come on you cheater!"
You asked for a rematch after the race, but Nia was drifting in and out of sleep on Brainy's shoulder, so they decided it was time to go, and Alex just wouldn't give you the satisfaction.
So everyone used this as a excuse to end the night, leaving you and Kara alone.
You raised from the couch to help her clean up, and you two soon fell into a rhythm.
The silence created was only interrupted by questions of were you should throw away the trash or the leftover pizza, and by the game music softly playing in the background.
You refrained from asking her why she wanted you to stay, as you waited for her to bring it up. But you could see in her furrowed eyebrows and her slightly uncoordinated steps that she was indeed thinking about it.
So you decided to cut the head off the snake.
Leaning on the back of the couch to peek at the blonde in the kitchen you asked her "why did you ask me to stay?"
Your tone hid no malice, but Kara still looked taken aback, and rounded the counter to stand a few feet away from you.
She began playing with her fingers, her gaze lowering to look at them.
"I wanted to ask you if...if you had anything in mind for tomorrow?"
She couldn't see your conflicted expression but she could hear you sigh, and she raised her head, adjusting the glasses that moved with the motion.
Kara being weird, Alex looking at you differently, claiming she had to talk to you. You were tired of all of it. You just wanted some clarity.
"i don't know what tomorrow is" you let your arms fall to your sides, and you almost wanted to take it back when you saw the hurt flash in her eyes, but you know it was best you didn't. "what is tomorrow? Did I promise you something?" your question close to a plea
"no you didn't promise me anything, but I assumed we could do something" she crossed her arms, and slightly raised her voice "I would have been fine with not doing anything, but you forgetting about it is a kind of a low blow"
You furrowed your eyebrows, you could feel the annoyance radiating off her body, and you wanted to punch yourself in the face for it, but no matter how much you racked your brain for an answer, nothing came up.
So you got closer to her, cautious of her tense shoulder, and tried again with the kindest tone you could master.
"please Kara, I have no idea what you're talking about. Can't you just tell me?"
"I shouldn't have to tell you Y/N" she shakes her head "you should remember when we started dating"
uh?
you and Kara were dating? And nobody told you?
More time passed between Kara's outburst and your silence, more things started to make sense, the way Kara started being more affectionate towards you, how she always asked you to spend alone time with her, and the looks she gave you from across the room.
All things you would expect from a couple.
And come to think of it, she has been acting this way for like...
"a month?"
oh god.
You blink twice. Is that what Alex wanted to talk to you about?
"yea tomorrow is a month" Kara echoes, then her defensive stance turned into one of defeat "did you seriously not remember?"
The answer was yes. You and Kara were dating, and nobody told you.
The answer was no. You didn't remember.
She was already mad, so you figured telling the whole truth couldn't make the situation any worse, you hoped.
You weren't able to stop the incredulous laugh before it escaped your lips, and told her the truth "I didn't know we were dating. Believe me" you added, because even though you were indeed telling the truth, you wouldn't blame Kara for not believing you, and kicking you out of her apartment.
And it was really hard for her to believe you, and she had to will herself not to throw you out the window. You were still her best friend after all, so she trusted you not to play with her feelings like that, so it must be something else.
Did you knock your head while fighting the last alien?
So she bit her tongue, and pondered her next question. "how do you not know? You were the one who asked me."
It felt like she was looking for the answer in your eyes with how intensely she was looking into them, but all she could see was an empty stare.
"I don't...remember. I think I would remember something like that?" you muttered, and you started considering the head injury too.
The blonde sighed, the rage and hurt being put aside for the moment. She still had her arms crossed but they weren't as tense, and you noticed.
"when that livewire copycat and that shapeshifter started creating chaos all over the city, do you remember that?" she stopped for a second to see you carefully nodding your head "and Nia went to stop the shapeshifter while we went after the other one" She took a deep breath, suddenly embarrassed to narrate the events out loud "before going after him, you stopped me and asked me if- you asked me if I wanted-"
"if you wanted to be my partner" you interrupted her, while a deep red rushed to your cheeks.
Her cheeks became red too, even if she lowered her head to try and hide it. She nodded.
You loudly cleared your throat. You definitely could have explained it better.
"I meant uhm, I meant work partner. I didn't mean-"
You were stopped by Kara's breath hitch. She didn't know how to feel, the anger was being quickly replaced by the embarrassment of her actions of the last month. "work partner?" she parrots "what does that even mean?"
You shrugged your shoulders "my work partner! it was our first real assignment together, the day we started being a team" You see her shoulders drop, and yours drop with hers, your voice coming out softer this time "I'm sorry"
Kara let out a big sigh, shaking her head "it's not your fault." because it wasn't "I just can't believe I've been attached to you a whole month and you never noticed!" she tilted her head to the side. And while she was still reliving the past few weeks, you could tell she was feeling more at ease.
"No no I did notice, but you seemed normal..so I didn't ask" you really should have
"why did you agree when I said I wanted to tell Alex?"
"I thought you wanted to invite her for lunch" you shrugged your shoulders, laughing with her at the absurdity of it all. But then it felt natural to ask "Why have you never tried to kiss me?"
You saw her cheeks becoming a shade darker, while she stammered a bit "I thought you wanted to go slow and I wanted to go at your pace." Her hands went to smoothe the wrinkles on her sweater, but it was probably just an excuse not to look into your eyes "But now I know why you were so stiff whenever I tried anything"
Silence fell between the two of you, with Kara awkwardly looking at everything but at your face, shifting her weight from one foot to the other.
Then you cleared your throat and straightened your back. "Would you like to?"
She raised her head when she heard your footsteps getting closer. "What?"
So you repeated "Would you like to? Kiss, I mean" you got closer to her face, giving her enough space to pull back "We've been together for a month now after all"
Kara audibly gulped, while her gaze moved from your eyes to your lips "Well uh- uhm, technically tomorrow is a month, but I wouldn't-" -mind.
That's what she meant to say, but you didn't give her time as your lips fell on hers.
You distanced yourself after just a second to look at her face, but she brought you right back by the back of your neck.
Saying you had never thought about kissing Kara would be a great lie, especially with all those moments where she was too close for comfort, too close to not get caught staring at her probably- soft, probably- sweet lips. And now you could finally confirm their softness as you felt them against yours, and how sweet they were when you tongue came out to taste them.
You eventually pulled away again, admiring the red tint of her cheekbones as she kept her eyes closed for a second longer.
"since I already did it once I'm going to do it again" you whispered "and this time I mean it the romantic way"
Kara's smile twitched upwards, and reached for your hand.
"do you want to be my partner?"
Instead of answering verbally, she leaned in to take your lips in hers one more time. But when she broke off the kiss you could see she was still pondering something.
"so, when is our anniversary going to be?"

I Forget You Aren't Mine 3
Supergirl. Lena Luthor x Reader!, Kara Danvers x Reader!, Alex Danvers, Brainy, Lex Luthor.
Word Count: 3.8k
Note: the end my dudes! Part 1 / Part 2
You blink, disoriented. The cool, crystalline air of the Fortress of Solitude stinging your eyes. Kara's face swims into focus, her expression a mix of relief and something else you can't quite place. Alex and Brainy stand slightly behind her, their faces etched with concern.
There's medical equipment around you. Needles inside you. You can hear the beeps of your heart in the background. It feels disrespectful to not remember how you end up here.
"Babe?" you ask, your voice raspy. "What happened? Where are we?"
Kara's smile is tight, forced. "You're safe, my love. Everything is going to be okay."
She doesn't answer your question and that's not usually how your wife behaves. You look around again, eyes catching someone in the back. A small dark-haired figure, watching anxiously.
“Is that your boss?” You try to get up in one motion, but Alex holds you down. Why is she here? “What am I doing at the DEO?
“You're not at the DEO, Y/N. You're at the Fortress. You're safe, we're all here.” Alex assures you and you furrow your brows.
“Safe? From what? Why wouldn't I be safe?” You ask, watching as Lena takes one careful step forward. “And why is Ms Luthor here?”
“Do you remember the servers?” Lena asks, you shake your head in denial. “Lex's plans?” You deny again. Lena’s throat bobs as she looks at Brainy, something mournful in her expression. “The failsafe. He wiped her memory.”
“Yes, I was afraid of that,” Brainy states matter-of-factly, his eyes glued to his pad, seemingly unfazed by the gravity of the situation.
“How do you feel?” Alex asks you, you try to sit up again and she helps you up this time.
You look around the vast, icy chamber, the strange technology, the towering crystals. It's all so unfamiliar.
“I don't know, Alex. I feel fine, but I have no idea what you guys are saying and it's so cold here,” You reach out, your fingers brushing against Kara's arm. “Can we go home? Please babe.”
Kara hesitates. It’s small—just for a second—but you catch it. Then she pulls you into a hug, arms locking around you like she’s afraid to let go. "Of course, of course my love. We can go home."
“Kara,” Alex says slowly, her tone hinting at the objection you know is coming. You can sense it—she’s not going to let you leave. “We should monitor her more closely. See what she remembers. Make her remember.”
Kara searches your eyes, and you silently plead with her not to listen to Alex. You reach for her again, tightening your arms around the woman you love, hoping to convey your fear without words.
A gentle kiss lands on your temple, but there’s a storm of emotions in her gaze—concern mixed with determination, and maybe a hint of fear. You can feel the weight of the moment, the tension thick between you all.
“Not now. We're going home.” Kara’s voice is firm, and you exhale, relief flooding through you.
As Kara makes her decision, Lena’s gaze remains locked on you, her expression unreadable. There’s a flicker in her eyes—perhaps disappointment, or maybe understanding—but you can’t quite tell. You don’t know her well, and you still can’t grasp why she’s here with your family, as if she belongs.
Alex, however, can’t hold back. “Kara, are you serious? This is insane! We don’t know what Lex did to her. We need to run tests, assess the damage—”
“Alex, that’s enough,” Kara snaps, her tone leaving no room for argument. “She wants to go home, and we’re respecting that. Just focus on Lena’s encrypted channels for now.”
Alex complies, slowly removing the medical equipment and needles from your body. Lena glances at Kara, and you catch a hint of a silent conversation between them—one that Kara seems to ignore, her jaw tightening with determination.
As Kara leads you toward the exit, Lena steps forward, her voice quiet but steady. “Kara, maybe just a brief scan... to ensure there are no lingering neural anomalies.”
Kara stops, her back to Lena. “No, Ms. Luthor. This has gone too far. My wife and I are going home.”
The journey back to National City is silent. Kara's hand rests on your thigh, but her touch is light, almost tentative.
She tries to act normal—makes dinner, puts on your favorite movie, curls up beside you on the couch. But the atmosphere is thick with unspoken tension.
As you sit there, watching the movie, you feel a sense of unease. You look at Kara, her face illuminated by the flickering light of the screen. She's beautiful, undeniably so. But there's a sadness in her eyes, a quiet desperation that makes your heart ache.
"Hey," you say, your voice barely a whisper. "Are you okay?"
She turns to you, her eyes searching yours. "I'm fine, honey." she says, her voice strained. "Why wouldn't I be?"
You push forward, crawling into her lap, lacing your legs around her waist. Her hands find the small of your back automatically. Not your dimples, though.
“You're not fine.” You say it with a certainty that comes from years of knowing her. Your fingers knead softly at the nape of her neck, trying to ease some of the tightness. She shudders, her eyes glistening. “I’m sorry this happened. I’ll do everything I can to remember, but right now, just… tell me what you need.”
"No, no,” Kara swallows hard. “It's not your fault.”
She pulls you closer, kissing the tear that is threatening to spill from your eye. Her shoulders finally easing up a little. “It was mine. I should never have agreed on putting you in danger. I promise that won't happen again. Everything is good now.”
You melt into her lap, resting your head against her shoulder as her fingers tangle gently in your hair. The moment feels perfect—like a scene from a movie, or maybe a—a TV show…
Your brows knit together. Something shifts, an odd tug in your chest, like a thread being pulled loose from a fabric you didn’t realize was unraveling. And beg yourself to believe in her words, everything is good. Please. Everything has to be good! Kara must feel it, too, because she stills, her fingers pausing mid-motion.
“You okay, baby?” she whispers against your temple.
You want to say yes. You want to say no. But neither answer feels honest.
So instead, you murmur, “Take me to bed. Maybe your mouth can find other ways to prove that everything is good now.”
You wake to hushed voices in the kitchen, their tones low and urgent. Your eyelids feel heavy, but the fragmented conversation outside your bedroom door pulls you upright.
The moment you step out, four pairs of eyes snap toward you.
Brainy, looking as detached as ever, still typing even if he is not looking at the keyboard at all; Alex, concern tightening the corners of her mouth, eyes soft as if she is looking at a child; Kara, her expression flickers between worry and something softer, something aching; And then there’s Lena—her eyes tell a whole story—one you don’t remember but somehow feel. There’s something restrained in the way she looks at you, like she’s trying to school her expression into neutrality but can’t quite keep the edges from fraying. A flicker of guilt, maybe, or regret. Or something even heavier, something close to longing.
You clear your throat, suddenly self-conscious. Their silence stretches, filling the room with something unspoken.
“Oh, um—” Your eyes drop to your clothes: Kara’s old university t-shirt draping over your frame, paired with barely-there pajama shorts. Not exactly appropriate attire in front of your wife’s boss. You shift on your feet. “Sorry, Ms. Luthor, I didn’t realize you were here. I'll change.” You turn towards the bedroom, but you still murmur, “Honey, a word?”
Kara follows you into the bedroom, shutting the door behind her. “You hungry? I flew to Dublin for your favorite breakfast.” She tries.
“What the hell is your boss doing here this early in the morning? What's up with all the hushed meetings and you all looking at me like I'm missing a limb or something?”
Kara exhales, running a hand through her hair. “Why don’t you change and come join us, huh? We’ll tell you everything.”
Something about the way she says it makes your stomach twist. Like she doesn't want to say it. Too careful. Too rehearsed. As if she lost the argument against them. You glance back at the closed door, where the others are waiting. Where Lena is waiting, with that look in her eyes you still can’t place.
Tell you everything—like it’s some big revelation, like it’s something you should already know. Something you used to know.
You swallow. Nod. “Okay.”
God, amnesia is so cliché. Though, this isn’t the kind you usually hear about. There’s more to it—more than just forgetting. It’s reality twisting at the seams, shifting under your feet. A life rewritten, memories rearranged like pieces of a puzzle forced into the wrong places.
While you sit there, taking in every single one of their words, the flood hits all at once. Like a dam breaking, like drowning in something too big to hold. Tears spill before you can stop them, hot and unrelenting. A searing pain lances through your temples, a brutal counterpoint to the rush of images and emotions.
Lena's eyes, burning with an intensity that made you feel seen to your very core, yet holding a quiet understanding that calmed your deepest fears. Kara's smile, a radiant warmth that chased away any shadow, filling you with a sense of pure joy.
The memories slam into you, a chaotic whirlwind, each one a sharp, vivid shard of a life you had no idea you've lost.
Passionate nights, breathless laughter, the feeling of Lena's arms wrapped tightly around you in the dark, her hands on the dimples of your back. The wedding, the apartment, Kara loving you loudly in the night, her hands on the dimples of your back.
Your heart pounds against your ribs, a frantic drumbeat echoing the chaos in your mind. You gasp, your breath hitching, the air thick and heavy in your lungs.
Lex's face, his voice, the chilling realization of the manipulation. The truth, the lies, the tangled mess of it all.
Lena moves before she can even process it, her touch impossibly gentle as she wipes the tears away. Alex sucks in a breath. Kara’s eyes darken, burning a hole into the back of Lena’s head. But you—
You’re stuck. Trapped in the avalanche of knowing.
This reality. The old one. You and Lena. You and Kara. The servers. Lex. The choices you made—the ones taken from you.
Your old life.
This life.
Which one is real? Which one is realest?
“Babe, are you okay?” Kara kneels in front of you, worried when she sees your eyes widening back into focus.
Lena is right next to her, mirroring the same worry, but you can’t think about that right now. You can’t think about any of that. Not yet.
“I know how to win.” You swallow back the flood of memories, the words you want to say, the feelings clawing at your throat. “I know how we can defeat Lex.”
You hesitate and everyone stops still, looking at you with intense concern and screaming urgency.
“What?” Kara reaches for your hand, her voice a tangled mess of emotions. “How?”
“Lena’s old encrypted channels. Do we have access to them?” You push to your feet, ignoring the way the two women kneeling at your feet flinch at your abruptness. You can’t focus on that. If you stop now, if you let yourself feel all of it, you won’t move at all. You won't win.
“Yes, but we can’t override his servers with them,” Brainy says.
“Because you’re doing it wrong.” You snap your fingers, already moving. “Lena, remember Non Nocere?” You don’t wait for her to respond. “You needed Myriad, or it wouldn’t work. That’s what’s missing.”
“Myriad?” Someone asks. It doesn’t matter who.
“No, memories.” You spin toward Alex. “People need to remember. Small things. They need to be brought back—” Your gaze locks onto her. “Do you remember Kelly?”
There’s a flicker of recognition at the name, but Alex’s eyes are still empty.
“You're engaged. She calls you love, she is a trauma psychologist. You two are going to adopt. A little girl named…”
“Esmé.” The word leaves Alex’s lips, and for a split second, her entire expression softens. The cold detachment cracks, and something like wonder flickers across her face.
You smile, turning next.
“Brainy! You remember Nia? Her superhero name is Dreamer, and you two have been together for months. She told you she loved you while watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows—which was super anticlimactic, but for some reason, you loved it.”
“Nia Nal.” Brainy’s voice is quiet, but certain.
Your smile widens.
“We need to make people remember. As many as we can. Once they disconnect from Lex’s neural programming, it’ll weaken it. Then we use Lena’s channel to override it.”
Silence stretches around you. Everyone is staring. Wide-eyed. Mouths slightly open.
“What are you all waiting for?” You exhale sharply. “We don’t have much time. If he realizes what’s happening, he’ll use the failsafes. We need to talk to as many people as we can and help them remember.” Your gaze snaps to Kara. “Find J’onn. Make Superman remember. We’ll need them.”
As the others scatter, Lena lingers. Her eyes meet yours, something unspoken crackling between you. You nod at her, then she’s gone, swift and purposeful. Simple as that.
Everyone has already left, but Kara’s hand finds yours, holding you back. “What about me?” Her voice is quieter now. “You didn’t say anything to help me remember.”
You blink at her. The answer is simple. Too simple.
“Because you don’t need it, do you?”
Kara’s breath shudders. Her eyes shine, dangerously close to tears.
“You had your memories all along.”
“I— I can explain.”
“Not now. We’re running out of time. We can talk when this is over. When we win.”
You win. The idea works. Once you have enough people disconnecting from the tangled neural connecting server, Brainy can override it and then—
The city erupts in a cacophony of confused shouts and relieved cries. Memories flood back, faces lighting up with recognition and dawning horror. The disorientation is palpable—a collective awakening from a nightmare. Lex's carefully constructed reality crumbles, revealing the raw, unvarnished truth beneath.
Superheroes, with their memories restored, move with purpose. Superman, Supergirl, the Martians, Dreamer, and the others converge on Lex’s heavily fortified command center. The battle is swift, decisive—a reclamation of truth. Stripped of his control, Lex falls, his reign of manipulation undone.
People spill into the streets, clinging to loved ones, piecing together the fragments of stolen time. The weight of what was done to them lingers, heavy and suffocating, but beneath it—relief. A breath, shaky but real.
And yet, as the world awakens, you stand frozen in the middle of your apartment. No—Kara’s apartment. Hers all along, yours only for borrowed time.
The soft whoosh pulls you from your thoughts. Kara lands with practiced ease, her suit vanishing in a blur of motion, replaced by the familiar comfort of her real clothes. She steps closer, hesitant, her fingers twitching at her sides before finally reaching for your hand.
“It’s over,” she murmurs, voice fragile as glass. “He’s gone.”
You don’t look at her. Your gaze is locked on a picture stuck to the fridge, its edges curling slightly with time. You and Kara, arms slung around each other, smiles so wide they’ve forced your eyes shut. A captured moment of happiness—from your honeymoon. From a wedding that never truly happened.
"It’s over," you echo, but the words taste different in your mouth.
You turn back to her, and for the first time, you really look. The relief in her face is painted with something heavier—fear, hope, something desperate and pleading. Like this is the fight she is most scared of.
“Did you have them all along?” Your voice is quiet, but the weight of the question settles between you like an unspoken truth. You don’t need to clarify; Kara knows exactly what you mean. “Did you have them there?”
She follows your gaze to the picture, shoulders tensing before they drop in surrender. “No,” she whispers. “No. I—I remembered everything when Lena came in for the first time with the datapad.”
The breath leaves your lungs in a slow, aching burn. “You knew it was a lie and you still wanted to keep it,” you realize, the words unraveling faster now. “You didn’t want to work with her. You didn’t—” A sharp inhale. The truth clicks into place with a sickening finality. “You didn’t want me around her because you knew it was true. You knew I’d remember.”
Kara swallows hard. “I didn’t have you in the original reality.” Her voice wavers, thick with emotion. “And then—Rao, baby, how could I just let you go when you were so right for me?”
Your chest tightens, an unbearable pressure curling around your ribs. “The memories—they were fabricated, Kara.”
“But not the feelings. The feelings are real.” She steps closer, the unguarded vulnerability in her eyes something you’ve seen so many times before. “I love you. I’d marry you right now. For the first time, the second time, it doesn’t matter. I'd marry you in a heartbeat. I love you in any reality.”
Her voice cracks on the last words, and it hurts, seeing her like this—open and afraid and so, so genuine. Tears gather along her lashes, threatening to spill. “I know I was wrong, I know, but I—I didn’t want to lose you.”
Your throat tightens, a raw ache settling deep in your chest, and for a moment, you can’t breathe. And then, softly—unforgivingly—
“I wasn’t yours to lose.”
Kara flinches like the words have struck her, her breath hitching, her hands trembling at her sides. And then she shakes her head, a silent plea spilling from her lips before she can stop it.
“No, no, please. Y/N, please.” Her voice cracks, her fingers reaching for you like she could hold you here, tether you to the reality she’s so desperate to keep. “What we lived was real too.”
You exhale, slow and measured, and step closer. Not to bridge the distance, not to pull her into the embrace she is so clearly aching for, but to lift a hand—gentle—and brush away the tears slipping down her cheeks. The touch is careful, lingering, but there’s no promise in it. No reassurance.
"Tell me, Kara," you murmur, voice quiet but firm, "should love be about holding on tightly, or about letting go and trusting that the other person will choose you?"
Her breath stutters, and for the first time, the fight drains from her expression, leaving only bare, unguarded heartbreak in its wake. The silence stretches between you, heavy, trembling on the edge of something irreparable.
You swallow against the ache in your throat and lift a hand to cup her face, your thumb ghosting over the tear-streaked skin of her cheek. She leans into the touch instinctively, eyes fluttering shut like she could will this moment into something softer, something salvageable.
"I'm sorry, honey." Your voice is gentle, but there’s no room for hesitation. "I know you love me. I know."
You press a kiss to her jaw, slow and aching, your lips trailing just enough to feel the way her breath shudders against you.
"But you’ve prioritized your own happiness over my autonomy," you whisper, the words landing between you like a quiet devastation. "And even though I know you, even though I love you—" Your voice falters, but only for a moment. "I can't move past that."
Kara’s lips part, her hands twitch like she wants to hold onto you, but she doesn't. Maybe she knows this is the moment she should let go.
You lean in, capturing her lips in a kiss—soft, lingering, final.
And then you step back.
"Bye, babe."
You knock on her door, and it’s barely a beat before it swings open. Lena stands before you, backlit by the soft glow of her always-pristine penthouse, the hum of music spilling into the threshold. You recognize the song instantly, and it makes you smile—of course, of course she’s playing this one.
“Lena.”
Her name leaves your lips like a prayer, reverent and yours. And the way her eyes shine when she hears it—like it’s the only thing that’s ever mattered—nearly knocks the breath from your lungs.
“May I have this dance?”
Lena doesn’t hesitate. She yanks you inside with startling strength, the door forgotten, the world outside ceasing to exist. Your bodies collide—flesh against flesh, heat against heat. Her hands slide down your back with a certainty that makes your knees weak, fingers finding the dimples of your lower spine and pressing firmly, like she owns them. Like she missed them.
“You’re back.” Her voice is thick, weighted with too much—relief, disbelief, something heartbreakingly close to devotion. You don’t even need to look into her eyes to feel it spilling over, raw and overwhelming.
“I sure am, darling.”
And then your lips crash into hers.
Lena exhales a shuddering breath against your mouth, but you don’t let her pull away, don’t let her second-guess this for even a second. Your fingers thread through the silky strands of her hair, tilting her head just enough to deepen the kiss, to claim it. She tastes like wine and something sweeter, something hers, something you could drown in if you let yourself.
Her hands clutch at you, roaming desperately like she’s afraid you might disappear if she doesn’t hold on tightly enough. And you let her, let her have you, because God, there's no such thing as real reality, but there is such a thing as real person. And she is the realest.
The kiss turns greedy, all tongue and teeth and need, a battle of desperation and relief. Lena makes a sound, something caught between a sigh and a whimper, and it nearly undoes you.
She presses forward until your back meets the doorframe, your bodies flush, no space left between you. You can feel her heartbeat against your ribs, hammering just as wildly as yours, and it fuels something deep and unrelenting inside you. She doesn't just kiss you—she devours you, pouring everything she couldn’t say into the way her lips mold against yours, into the way her hands roam, relearning every inch of you.
When she finally pulls back, just enough to breathe, you chase her lips not ready to let go yet. Her eyes flutter open, heavy-lidded and dark with something unmistakable, something that's always been yours.
“You taste like coming home.”
Lena smiles, a slow, confident curve of her lips. “That’s why I always knew you’d come back to me.”
And then you kiss her again, because you can, because she lets you, because nothing else in the world matters anymore, and because this—this is what winning feels like.

Part 1 - Part 6 - Part 7 - Part 8
"Look, it's not like I didn't believe you, but woah", Winn said, gaping. Alex silently nodded in agreement.
"Thank you all for helping me", Lena smiled warmly, still a bit shy now that everyone suddenly saw her.
"Em, yeah, sorry, Lena, there is a catch", Winn winced, rubbing back of his head sheepishly. "We kinda can't hear you. Because you speak so quietly that only Kara's ears can catch it, so if I make you loud enough for us..."
Lena tilted her head, thinking for a bit. She signaled Kara to relay her words.
"But it's not like all sounds are deafening for Kara", it was strange to talk about herself like that, "So it means there is some biological adjustments for her hearing".
"Of course, but I didn't want fo experiment with something that could potentially end very bad".
Lena and Winn traded ideas back and forth, already creating precautions, when Alex interrupted them, looking amused.
"Sorry to stop you both from nerding out but J'onn said we can just talk in the red lamp room. It will solve all your problems, no?"
Two geniuses meekly nodded.
"This way, miss Luthor". J'onn smiled and gestured to the coridor.
/ / / / / / / / /
Winn (with Lena right behind his shoulder) inserted some new parameters into his tablet, once they settled in the red sun lamps' room. And when he nodded to Lena, she said tentatively:
"Thank you all for your help", she smiled.
"I'm glad to help fellow genius", Winn happily answered. "Now we just need to..."
"Find my body, yes", Alex and Winn winced. Kara stared at the floor, trying not to see Lena's face, as she was talking about it.
"Yes, that. But we need to do one very important thing first".
Everyone glanced at each other with confusion. J'onn seemed to know what's that already, but he still looked relaxed, so Kara and Alex just waited till Winn's desire for dramatics was satisfied.
"We need to introduce ourselves!" Lena laughed, and wobbled in the air a little. It seemed that being visible didn't take away her ghostly powers. And while Winn was listing all his accomplishments, Kara found herself thinking.
Lena looked much more real now. Even without her powers Kara could see tiny freckles lining up on the side of her neck. Red lamps gave her green eyes mysterious glow, making Lena look ephemeral in a way that didn't have anything with the her status of a ghost.
It pained Kara so much to see her like that. Like she would be soft and warm to the touch, like she could really hug Kara or pat her cheek, like they need to just save her and not to retrieve her body.
Still Kara couldn't help but reach out hoping against everything that the fact that everyone can see Lena meant she can touch her.
When her hand went right through the edge of Lena's jacket, Kara tried very hard to hide her disappointment, but she still caught J'onn's sympathetic smile.
"So... You are the woman my sister is seeing", Alex asked strictly, and Lena chocked on the words she exchanged with Winn.
"I- Well, technically... I guess I am..?" It was adorable to see Lena suddenly fumbling with words, and Kara decided to play the knight despite her own embarrassment.
"Alex", she shook her head, exasperated. "Don't mess with Lena".
"What? She is," Alex shrugged, but finally smiled. "It's not like I said anything wrong. And here you are, already nagging me".
"This is Agent Danvers, Supergirl's foster sister", J'onn intervened, when Kara opened her mouth to bicker. "We are currently in DEO, department of extra-normal operations. And I am its Director - J'onn J'onzz."
"It's good to meet you, sir", Lena nodded.
"Likewise. I promise, that DEO will do everything to secure your body and will protect it until we can hand it over to miss Arias".
"I... appreciate it."
Room grew somber. When Winn's tablet chimed, he scattered to read it, if only to avoid awkward atmosphere.
"Miss Arias send us the information".
"It was fast", Alex said, already scanning the data from behind his shoulder.
"Well, she had a password. I will put it over our map".
They gathered around small tablet, looking at the area north of National city. Lena's coordinats, the green dot on the screen, was constantly changing as the map adjusted, only to stop right above the red mark.
"It's a Cadmus base", J'onn said grimly and stood up, already giving out commands to the agents by his communication device.
"This one is Lilian Luthor's", Alex sighed and joined her director in getting ready. They didn't seem hurried, since they will have to wait until Kara restores her powers.
"I guess she's one of my relatives?" Lena asked carefully.
"Your adoptive mother, to be precise", Winn was already putting dossier up front.
He started to recount his files to Lena, but Kara, tense after mention of Cadmus and as attuned to Lena as she is, felt that something was wrong.
Lena was pale. She always had a bit of white hue when Kara was the only one to see her, but now even with Winn's invention she was almost transperent.
"It's her. This is the woman I talked with, when my car crushed". Lena's voice was detached and angry, her hands clenched. When she turned to look at Kara, her voice cracked in the middle. "She wanted to kill me".

A/N: Supercorp not being canon is angsty enough. Their existence alone should be enough to fill a prompt.
People weren't scared when Supergirl fought and beat a supervillain. They were scared when she collapsed and crashed into the road below afterwards. Lena wasn't just scared, she was terrified and worried sick. So much so that she stormed right out of her meeting and stormed into the DEO.
No one there was panicking nearly as much as she was. Which was a good sign she supposed, if Kara was in any real danger she would have heard Alex yelling already. But she wasn't, she was sitting next to Kara, who looked fine, safe for some minor bruises and scratches that were already in the healing stages.
"You can't keep overdoing it Kara, one of these days a punch like that could send you into a coma." Kara didn't seem too worried about it, in fact she started laughing it off but stopped as soon as she spotted Lena standing at the door.
"Oh, Lena! You're here!" She was smiling. Like the whole City, if not more, hadn't just seen her crash from the sky. Like she wasn't injured and there was never any danger to begin with.
Pissed off Lena marched into the room, confusing Kara, Alex and the staff. But what confused them more was the kiss that followed. She would have thrown herself at Kara were she not worried about hurting her, so she settled for a passionate embrace instead. Kara gasped in surprise, allowing Lena to deepen the kiss. It wasn't like Kara didn't have the lung capacity.
But she did have shame, a whole lot of it.
"Don't you ever scare me like that again, is that clear, Kara?!" Lena still held onto her, her shoulder, her cape, while she blinked away tears of frustration.
Kara was more scared of Lena's fury than any other enemy, and of hurting her. "Scare you? It was just a little fight, Lena. You've seen me do it before." Slapping her would probably break Lena's hand but maybe it was worth it when her girlfriend seemed to have so little regard for her own safety. "Besides I'm fine. Look!" Kara struck a pose and flexed, then another, and another. "Good as new, babe!"
"Babe?" Kara paused mid flex and looked at her sister, who looked angry and horrified. "And since when exactly have you two had this kind of a relationship? And why wasn't I informed?"
The staff already made their quiet exit, sensing it was probably best to pretend that they didn't see or hear anything.
"Well... you know... we were gonna tell you, Alex. Tell everyone. Eventually." Kara looked like a puppy that got caught doing something bad. "Eventually for sure."
"Right. I was eventually gonna be told that my little sister was dating the CEO of L-Corp. Instead I had to witness a make out session. Yuck. Don't ever do that in front of me again because I don't want to think about my baby sister doing that with anyone." She would rather go into the Phantom Zone.
But that was just the idea that Lena needed. She needed to talk to Kara alone and unlike Kara she didn't have the shame needed to prevent her from doing anything scandalous. She hugged Kara again. "I was so worried about you. I couldn't help myself. Kara." Kara blushed when Lena's lips brushed against her cheek.
"You... keep it in your pants!" Alex stood up abruptly and narrowed her eyes at the couple. "We will talk about keeping secrets later. And you, Luthor, I'll talk to you about seducing my sister." She pointed her finger at Lena and didn't stop until the door closed.
"You made my sister mad. It was nice dating you, Lena." Kara sighed but she leaned in, to kiss Lena anyways. However Lena moved away, leaving Kara looking confused mid-kiss.
"Do you have any self-preservation instincts at all? In your entire body is there one cell decided to it. Or in that big brain of yours is there ever a thought that tells you that you should keep yourself alive for your own sake?!" Lena's voice rose with every question, her hands gripping at Kara harder.
"Yes? I have to come back to you and everyone else don't I?" Kara hugged her. "So you never have to worry about-"
"But I do worry! I worry every time, can't you see that?!" Lena knew she wasn't doing anything by smacking her fists against Kara's front but she couldn't help herself. "Every time you fight even if you come back completely fine, I will still worry about you. I'm your girlfriend and your best friend, Kara. Worrying about you is part of the description."
"Lena, I'm sorry. I don't want you to worry. Ever. But I guess it's kind of inevitable huh, with me being a superhero and all." She lightly cupped Lena's face and looked deep into her eyes. She really wanted to make her feel better. But how? She couldn't stop doing what she was doing, the world, the universe, the multiverse, needed her.
Lena worried about her, but Kara had to worry about the well-being of everyone else. It wasn't something she could just quit.
"Next time... I call in for back-up. I know Alex is always telling me I shouldn't rush in alone. But that's about all I can do. Everyone's counting on me to be strong for them. And you... I know there were times where you were strong for me too. I see it, feel it. When you hold me, kiss me, when you insist on taking me to all those fancy places to treat me, when you praise me, when you offer to help me. I see it Lena. Thank you, for being strong for me." Lena chewed on her bottom lip, not as used to praise as Kara was.
But Kara always gave it so liberally. Her love, it wasn't something Lena had to prove herself worthy of. She just had it. "I'm scared of losing you. We've been friends for years, Kara. Dating for over a year now, and the amount of love you've given me is more than I ever hoped for. I don't want to lose you."
"And you won't. I would escape the Phantom Zone to get home to you. I love you too much to die." She was the Woman of Steel who was too in love to die.
"One of these days you need to stop thinking like that. I don't want you to go to the Phantom Zone, ever. I'd much rather you stay with me the whole time." She hugged Kara close, just the sound of her heartbeat was enough to give Kara strength. "By the way, I'm sorry about revealing our relationship, I know it wasn't how we planned it."
"It certainly didn't involve kissing in front of my sister." Alex will either scold her for keeping secrets, or tease her about finally getting with Lena.
Lena hummed, her hands massaging Kara's shoulders. "Well, she's not here now."
"That... is true." Kara already liked where this was going even before Lena unbuttoned her shirt. "Are you trying to motivate me to come back in good condition? Cause um... this is a good way to do it, Lena."
"Good to know. A way to get you to do what I want. Love, food and boobs." She teased before kissing her again, the cameras in the DEO be damned. After all she had more than enough money to bribe every single person working here into forgetting everything they saw.

Here’s the second and final part of Weirdest Day Ever 🫶
*TW: slight descriptions of throwing up
Kara Danvers/Supergirl x Reader Sickfic
Weirdest Day Ever pt.2
No sooner are the words out of Kara’s mouth, you are back over the toilet, throwing up again. You feel your girlfriend’s soothing presence with you the whole time as she gently rubs your back and murmurers sweet nothings until you’re done.
“Do you think you’re done? Can I carry you to bed, love?” Kara asks as she holds you tightly in her arms after you had practically collapsed back into them, no strength left in your body.
You nod and Kara kisses the top of your head, then seemingly effortlessly, she picks you up and carries you to your shared bedroom, gently placing you on the bed.
After helping you into a fresh set of pjs and giving you some medicine, Kara tucks you into the bed then moves to sit cross legged in front on you, her fingers nervously playing with the hem of the blanket. Your hand rests atop hers and she looks at you as you run your thumb along the back of her hand and gaze at her with a soft expression.
“What wrong, Kara? You know you can tell me anything, right?” You rasp, brows furrowing. As reassuring as your words are, Kara shakes her head. “I-I have something to tell you, but-but well…well I just want you to know that I meant what I said earlier, I trust you completely and I love you, so, so much…but I haven’t been honest with you, y/n.” She takes a deep breath and as concerned as you are about what she might say next, you hold her hand tighter.
“Also, please know that keeping this from you everyday has been so hard because I’ve wanted to tell you since the moment I met you, y/n. I never thought I would care about anyone here in the way that I love you, a-and I never thought someone would love me the way you do. I love you. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner, y/n….” Kara pauses and slowly takes off her glasses, letting them fall gently to the duvet before taking her hair tie out, letting her golden locks fall around her face in a way you’ve seen before.
“…I-I’m Supergirl.” Kara exhales a shaky breath. You stay silent for a minute as you stare into Kara’s ocean blue eyes. Ones that are full of such love and concern, ones that you have seen every day for the past year and a half, the same ones you recognized earlier when the blonde heroine had saved you.
Now you know why. Memories flash through your mind, many of them the silly coverups Kara always had for being late or missing a date, forgetting to call or calling back in the middle of the night…you honestly don’t understand how just a pair of glasses kept you from the truth.
But then again, you feel now that deep down somewhere, maybe you did know but you couldn’t think it possible. All the missed dates. Days where you fell asleep or woke up without being in your girlfriend’s arms. The countless excuses and promises of strange absences being made up. It all makes sense now.
As much as you want to be at least a little bit angry, upset that Kara had hid something so big from you…you think you understand why. And there’s no way you can possibly forget all the good moments too. Her smile, her eyes, the way she always makes the room brighter. All the late night movies, walks around the city, countless hugs and kissed that always made your day.
The way her forehead crinkles when she’s worried, that cute thing she does with her glasses when she nervous, her all around adorable dorky-ness, the incredible intelligence you knew she has but didn’t show off. The way she makes you feel loved in a way you’ve never felt before. The way she always knows when you need her and the way she always knows how to make you feel better. The way she makes you a better person. The way she sees you for you.
You can’t imagine your life without Kara in it. And yeah, this will be different, worlds different. But you don’t want to be with any other person in that world other than Kara Danvers. And maybe you can finally return the favor and start to fully be able to understand who she is the way she fully understands who you are.
Your thoughts are pulled back when you notice you had broken eye contact, lost in memories for perhaps a bit too long. Kara looks at you now like she’s going to pass out waiting for you to respond.
“Y/n. Please, please say something.” She begs, a couple tears silently falling down her face, the moisture in her eyes adding to the light and crystalline glow of her sapphire eyes. You blink and look back up at her.
“So…if you’re an alien…y-you can’t get sick?” You ask suddenly. “What?” Kara’s brows crinkle in confusion. “Can you get sick, like I am now?” You clarify and to your happiness, Kara shakes her head.
“No, not normally, but I promise I’ll explain everyth…” You cut her off by throwing your arms around her and locking your lips to hers. Kara gives an adorable startled squeak but then quickly falls into the rhythm and wraps her arms around you lovingly as you deepen the kiss which only stops when you have to turn away to cough into your elbow.
Kara’s gentle hands find their way to your back once more, rubbing it lightly and helping you to breathe normally again. You take your hand in hers. There is a smile on her face but you can tell she was still unsure what you think about her being Supergirl. Guess the kiss wasn’t enough, huh?
You know Kara is smart, perhaps the smartest person you’ve ever met, but when it comes to love, you know all logic is left behind. That’s just what always happens, she is adorably oblivious to all things in the love department. It took you three tries before she finally realized you were trying to ask her on a date when you first met.
You smile as you gaze into Kara’s eyes, gosh you could get lost in them forever. “Kara, I love you.” You start, squeezing her hands gently. “I love you, every bit of you. Alien, powers, superhero, all of it. I think…I think we have a lot to talk about, but I know we can do this together because if you haven’t gotten the gist already, I really really do love you. I’m not planning on giving you up. Ever.”
You finish, the last bit fading out a bit as your voice breaks and you start coughing again. Ugh! Stupid flu. Kara disappears for not even a second and is back with a cool glass of water which you sip gratefully. Huh, maybe this whole girlfriend with superpowers thing is gonna be pretty cool.
Kara looks at you with complete happiness in her eyes and a smile as warm as the sun. “I love you too, y/n. I understand we have a lot to talk about but…Rao—you don’t know how relieved I am to know that you want this to work as much as I do.” She finds your hands and plays with them as she talks, her eyes never breaking contact with yours.
“Thank you for telling me, Kara.” You smile a bit but her’s fades. “I’ve wanted to tell you since the day we met, y/n. I was just worried that knowing my identity would put you in danger, but now I see that I can keep you safer this way.” She explains softly.
“Kara.” You smile wider, blushing a little. “I always feel safe with you. Superhero or not. Whenever I’m, with you, I feel at home.” A few tears fall down her cheeks as her heart swells with love for you. She tries to speak but can’t so her lips just find yours once more instead. You linger a moment before pulling away with a smirk.
“Did I just render the Girl of Steel speechless?” You muse lightly and she laughs as you go to kiss her again but a low buzzing interrupts the moment. Kara leans away, pulling out her phone.
“Shoot.” She sighs, her face falling into a frown. “What’s wrong, love?” You ask, brows equally furrowed. Kara looks back at you with a sad, guilty look on her face. “That was Alex. She said Supergirl is needed at the DEO. I have to go.” She whispers the last part, already standing up.
“Oh, um, okay…wait-what’s the DEO?” You’re pretty sure Kara had once said her sister works for the FBI. You never questioned further. “It’s..well-I’ll explain later, I promise.” Kara says, disappearing and reappearing in the blink of an eye in her super suit. She walks back over to you.
“Will you be okay? The last thing I want is to leave you here alone like this baby.” She puts her hand on the side of your cheek. You offer a small smile. “I’ll be okay, Kara. I understand now that I know who you are. Go be a hero, but promise me you’ll be safe?” Your words are loving and truthful. Kara nods her promise.
“I’ll be as quick as I can. You just rest, alright? If you need me, just call my name. My super-hearing will pick up your voice and Il’’ be back in a flash.” She makes another promise and you nod as she kisses your lips once more.
“Love you.” You whisper against them. “I love you too.” Your girlfriend speaks then is gone, leaving you sitting there with your thoughts. Your mind spinning and thinking about what just happened.
Of course you love Kara with all your heart, so you can’t find it in you to be mad at her. Not even a little bit. You are however, in shock. Your girlfriend is Supergirl. Kara, your Kara is Supergirl. Every time you watch the news and see the heroine defeating a villain or getting beaten by one, that had been her. Your soft girlfriend, the embodiment of a golden retriever with a personality like sunshine is also the strongest, most badass person, or well, alien, on the planet.
You can’t help but feel a sense of pride, but also a feeling of great curiosity. You always had the feeling that Kara wasn’t giving you all of her, which you were happy to dismiss because of how loving and wonderful she is in every other way. Now you know why.
Your heart feels light at your next thought. You can’t wait to get to know this side of her, to fully understand the love of your life to the best extent you can. You yawn, exhausted from the day and from being sick, so you lean back into your fluffy pillows, pull the blankets around you and fall asleep in seconds.
You aren’t sure how long you’ve been asleep for but it definitely doesn’t feel like long enough with the way your head is pounding. You groan at the stabbing pain as suddenly, a huge wave of nausea washes through you and your heartbeat turns rapid. The room spins as you jump out of bed and stumble to the bathroom, collapsing on the tile floor and throwing up into the toilet.
You moan loudly as your stomach clenches with pain before you are throwing up once more. Not thirty seconds later you hear a soft woosh, and immediately after you feel Kara’s calming presence behind you as she kneels down behind you.
She pulls your hair out of your face and holds a steady hand on your back, rubbing slow circles along the damp fabric of your shirt. “You’re okay, love. Just get it all out. I’m right here.” She hums gently in your ear and you can feel your heartbeat begin to slow at the sound of your girlfriend’s soothing voice.
“It’s okay. I’ve got you, love.” She adds when you turn more into her comforting hold and she continues to run her hands along your back until you feel the slightest bit better. She tucks you into bed after carrying you there and joins you seconds later.
Wasting no time, you sink into her warmth. You never really took notice of how Kara always seems to run hot, but now you wonder if it’s because she isn’t human. You let out a tired sigh. You really feel like shit, but when Kara starts running her hands through your hair and gently trailing her fingers along your back, you find a little comfort from your flu from her small simple actions.
You start to drift off, almost asleep when Kara speaks, her voice low. “How’s your stomach doing, love?” You hum at her words, not even opening your eyes. “A bit better.” Kara kisses your hair. “Good. We’ll wait a bit longer to see if it settles then we’ll get some food and medicine in you, okay?”
You try to focus on her words but you’re just so tired. With a yawn, you burrow your face more into Kara’s side. “Jus’ wanna sleep.” You murmur. “That’s okay baby. Sleep is good. We can get you medicine later. For now just sleep. I’ll be here, love.” Kara hums and you hold her tighter in response.
“Can you tell me a story? Something happy?” You ask softly. You’re so damn tired and want nothing more than to sleep but you know that’s not going to come easy with how awful you feel and so you really just want to hear Kara’s voice since it always brings you so much comfort.
“Of course babygirl.” You could hear the smile in her voice. “Can I tell you a story from my life before I came to Earth?” She asks, a little hesitantly but you just smile against her.
“I’d love that, Kara. I want to know everything. I want to know you.” You feel her soft lips on your temple before she speaks, low and soothing.
“Well, I’m from the planet Krypton, but before I came to Earth, my father, Zor-El would take me to see dozens of other planets in our solar system. Some covered in sandy whit beaches with glowing purple skies. Some had thick green jungles and the most fascinating wildlife. But my favorite, gosh my favorite was this one planet we would go to often. Just us. It was so peaceful there, the skies has this magnificent glow to them, each sunset an endless stream of colors that you could see for miles….”
You make a mental note to ask more about it when you wake up, but for now, you’re content to just let Kara’s words blur together as you slowly drift back to sleep, knowing that she was there and that with her by your side, nothing bad will ever happen. Not even a stupid little flu can get you down.

6. Embers
Of all the things, that the Earth have to offer, it's the fireplace, that gave Kara the most comfort. When she first arrived at this planet and had the difficulty to adjust to her new life, to her new powers, she often sat near the fireplace at the Danvers house and simply watched the flames, till they became only the embers.
She was thinking about how she became an only survival who remembers (Kal was raised here basically and didn't remember Krypton anyway) of her planet and what responsibility came with this knowledge, how to not forget and to cherish these memories, how there's noone who can help her to bear this burden, even her cousin, whom she was supposed to protect, how to manage her new powers without crushing something or somebody or overwhelming herself. These thoughts were her constant company, especially in the beginning of her new life, and only the flames were calming enough to soothe her.
Later came the new chapter of her life, and now not only flames were calming for her, but also one special heartbeat. She often thought about Lena thought, worried about her workaholic tendencies, about how she never eats or sleeps nearly enough, or Kara was really selfish when it concerns her best friend, about how she can't find the courage to tell her the truth because of it and also because she lo... no, not going that way.
Now, though, now her quiet evenings, near the fireplace, were not really that quiet anymore.
"Jeju, I lost my favorite pen today" her little miracle was pouting and rubbing her eyes, trying not to cry. "I'm really sorry"
"It's ok, bug, we can go buy another just like the previous, anyday." She hugged Lori, trying to cheer her up "Besides, I'm sure Esme will be glad to go with us, she told me she needs new pens and notebooks as well"
"Really?!" her daughter exclaimed, all sad thoughts already forgotten "Yay!"
"What my two favorite girls are talking about?" Lena had approached them and sat on the sofa, hugging her wife and tickling her daughter between them.
"Oh, nothing really, love. Just how excited we are with Lori to go shopping for the new pens tomorrow, right inah?" She winks at her wife, playfully.
"Yes! Mom, will you go with us?" her hopeful expression was hard to say no to.
"Of course, sweetheart, I wouldn't miss this" Lena just smiled and poked Lori on the nose. "Now, what are we watching this evening?"
"Frozen!!!" Was both Kara and Lori's answer.
Yes, these evenings weren't so quiet anymore, but Kara wouldn't change it for the world.
