Writing Reference: Aphrodisiacs

The Greek Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, lends her name to an extensive list of foods and other weird and wonderful items that are supposed to increase the libido and enhance the chances of seduction and therefore fecundity.
The issue of fertility has always been an overriding concern for humankind, and any substance that either enhances sexual prowess or increases the chance of conception has always been highly sought after.
Ancient man had a limited seasonal diet, and a bad hunt or the failure of a crop could literally be a life-or-death matter. Getting enough food to eat was an overriding concern.
Chances of fertility are restricted if nourishment is poor, and so certain foods were given magical powers in the hopes that they might increase both male and female potency despite the limited diet.
There is a marked differentiation between the foods that increase fertility versus the ones that enhance sex drive, and given that early man did not know about the chemical constituents of food, many aphrodisiacs were chosen as such primarily because of their symbolic significance.
The Doctrine of Signatures—the notion that a plant or a feature of an animal that is similar in appearance or quality to a body part could be beneficial to the organ it resembles—had an important part to play in deciding which foods had aphrodisiac qualities.
Example: The Rhinoceros Horn still carries a frisson as a stimulant to sexual appetites, as does Spanish Fly. Both these ingredients, sort of mystical precursors to Viagra, were ingested by men in eager anticipation of increased virility.

Pliny the Elder and Dioscordes documented many of these aphrodisiacs as far back as the 1st century, and it is likely that they would have been regarded as such for some time prior to this.
The behavior and lifestyle of certain animals made them fertility symbols, too:
Example: The sparrow, a prolific breeder, was sacred to Aphrodite and its blood was a popular ingredient in love potions.
Steak was thought to contain all the virility of the animal it came from, the bloodier the better.
Ground rhinoceros horn is symbolic of the libido but the power of the rhino is also perceived as the ultimate in male sexual energy.
This ancient, visceral belief in the power of appearances has meant that many of the original foods that were considered to have aphrodisiac powers by ancient man still carry the same meanings today, despite their actual chemical constituents.
It is true to say that certain foods actually do have aphrodisiac powers purely because of these old beliefs, and generally owe more to folklore and symbolism than to fact; however, a symbol is a potent force and often the association alone is enough to bring about the desired effect.
Example: A dinner date where oysters and strawberries are on the menu will leave no doubt about the intended conclusion to the evening.
To our ancestors, any kind of food that resembled the penis, the vagina, or constituent parts thereof, carried powerful suggestive meanings, although latterly our ability to analyze certain minerals and trace elements has proven that some supposedly aphrodisiac foods may actually deserve their reputation.

Example: The fifty oysters that Casanova reputedly managed to swallow every day for breakfast not only resemble the female sexual parts in scent, texture, and form, but it has also been discovered that their high zinc content may indeed help enhance the libido; a large proportion of zinc is spent when men ejaculate.
For ancient man it was not always necessary for the foods to be eaten for them to have the desired effect. Some of the weird and wonderful things considered to have aphrodisiac qualities were toxic, but could work their magic simply by close proximity.
Example: The berries of mistletoe were a reminder of the semen of the Gods and the little crosses on the undersides were kisses, but it would be unwise to eat them.
Seeds, nuts, bulbs, and eggs, because they are full of potential new life, were considered as aids to fertility; snails, too, were considered to enhance sexual appetites because of the viscous fluid of the trails they leave behind, although slugs are not considered to have any aphrodisiac qualities whatsoever.

ZOMBIE! Optimus AU stuff

‼️CONTEXT: Soundwave has contracted the same infection as Optimus Prime by this time. This AU is almost 100% based off “The Santa Clarita Diet” so the side effects of the virus stay true to the virus in the show: Cannibalism, increased energy/speed/strength, drastic dopamine release and personality change, extreme libido.
Soundwave has lost his ability to focus on his duties or stand at a console all day the same as before, ashamed and confused with himself by the change. He eventually begins to recognize the dangers of losing his control and infecting Megatron, the high command, or his soldiers, and has no way to contribute the way he used to, so he vanishes without a trace (goes rogue).
Over time the less fortunate side effects such as decaying frame begin to catch up to him. He’s been scavenging vehicon leftovers from battlegrounds while avoiding either faction, and takes notice that Prime, the origin of the virus, hasn’t rotted the same way. His new objective is to find himself whatever cure Optimus has and get some for himself.
This prompts him to approach Bulkhead while he’s patrolling and try to reason with him, which turns into rather terrible flirting due to Soundwave having been isolated since the virus’s early stages and hasn’t had an opportunity to sate himself of the other side effect and YES I know that’s silly but this is a COMEDY AU. As you can imagine this doesn’t really amuse Bulkhead but he does pity Soundwave for the washed up desperate faction-less loner he’s become since the virus took over his life, and the two meet up on the same spot often, becoming friends with benefits after Bulkhead is able to smuggle some of the cure out to Soundwave.

Cycle update
- Just as it had been described to me, the "god mode" started to hit me in the middle of the work day last week. It felt both exhilarating and scary to feel this wave of confidence coming in over the course of the day, like you can feel a mental shift.
- Mentally I'm feeling pretty good. Confidence is up, anxiety is mostly down, nowhere near perfect. This week I have increased my dose from 250 to 300, I'll be interested to see if that changes noticeably.
- I'm so fucking horny it should be illegal. Somehow I have managed to not be jerking off all the time. If you live in Toronto, hmu.
- The increased libido has allowed me to lift with much more intensity, I find myself starting to grunt a bit as I reach the end of the set, which I've never done before. Strength has definitely gone up a bit.
-Not a ton of change muscle wise yet. Admittedly my diet is kind of shit, a big reason why I did this cycle now was for the mental benefits I described above, despite not necessarily being in the ideal point that most people should be when they start gear. - I'm noticing some new hair sprouting up on my stomach. It's funny because I have quite a hairy torso but my arms and legs are much smoother, I figured I'd notice hair growth there first.

“Are you sick, Clataedre?” Saera called back again.
“It’s just…motion sickness,” Tav lied, rinsing her mouth with a water flask. “I’ll get used to it.”
“I’m sure Rolan can make you a tincture or something?”
“Halsin gave me something, but it makes me sleepy…and I don’t trust you two not to careen this thing off a cliff with the way you carry on.”
Rolan said something that made her mother giggle and their lips began smacking loudly again, though they managed to keep an eye out for bumps.
Back at home, Halsin and Astarion were managing the twins by themselves, currently in the throes of privy training the toddlers. It's been about a month on T now, here's my experience:
Bottom growth was pretty much instant, I started feeling it on day 2.
I'm super hungry.

Absolutely OBSESSED with a Santa Clarita diet AU.

Taking place during ‘Sick Mind’, Optimus is infected by the plague ship, but somehow something about the Matrix (because it’s a convenient plot device 😈) mutates the virus into something else.
Upon return to base he’s found himself dizzy and disoriented but insists he just needs a moment alone to clean off.
Cut to exactly two minutes later, all Ratchet’s allowing him alone for obvious reasons, and when Ratchet walks in on him he’s somehow managed to puke everywhere and pass out on the floor.
Thus begins the whole mission into Megatron’s head and all that jazz. But by the time Bee comes back, everyone is absolutely devastated and it seems like Optimus is truly dead. However as soon as what’s happening, yknow ‘wars end’ ‘we lost’ ‘we’re fucked’, Optimus sits up and is immediately better.
While everyone’s relieved it’s also super weird, and while Ratchet is going over him trying to figure out how he’s miraculously recovered discovers a few things: for one, his life signal isn’t back online; every one of the monitors is flatlined.
He doesn’t get to prod much more before Optimus insists he’s fine, better than ever actually.
As for the how the actual show this is all based off of goes, the next day he’s feeling AMAZING. He’s more full of life than ever, more energetic, highly motivated to get out there ‘kick ass’ (as Miko puts it as she’s loving the new development), and if I’m following the show’s canon symptoms, increased libido. So yknow that gives me the opportunity to push an Opti-Ratch agenda on you all. ε(*´・ω・)з
The next time they wind up on the battlefield he’s having the time of his life. He’s mouthy, hell he’s a total jackass to some of the vehicons (who are equally confused and scared).
Before the last of them get away he’s sunk his teeth into back of their neck and bitten a portion out of the poor guy. Then another. And while he gets carried away, the rest of Team Prime is just lost on how to react or what to do. Optimus is completely unbothered by this development though, there’s plenty of standard con troops and he’s sure the Decpticons won’t panic if a few number-named-nobodies go missing right???
