Relistened to the episode where Hayward and Carpenter first meet and honestly, although it's overshadowed later by Hayward's vitriolic bitterness and hatred, it's clear they were always meant to be two of a kind. Two lost people, losing their purpose, clinging to their old life while knowing that it's killing them. During their first conversation, Hayward bemoans what it's like to know the most important relationship of your life is falling apart, the sick terror and anticipation of it. Like losing your faith, Carpenter tells him. Hayward says the only option is to break free, leaving torn pieces of yourself behind. Carpenter adds you can also destroy the thing holding you back. It's ironic that they both sort of take the other's advice; Carpenter turns away from the Trawlerman, losing her family, nearly dying more times than I can count. Hayward tries to destroy the system that he upheld as a police officer, freeing people he'd once have thrown in prison. In season 1 they're on opposite sides of a fight that neither of them really want to be a part of anymore. And they get that moment of connection, before it all goes to shit. Even if it annoyed the fuck out of Carpenter. It's an incredible conversation to look back on after seeing the finale

so, like, the bitter middle-class character is showing up more and people are not registering it?

I recently watched a video essay how Saltburn mostly falls short due to its inability to actually properly criticize class, and it got me thinking about the whole kerfuffle that happened with D20 fans about Fantasy High: Junior Year and specifically Kipperlily CopperKettle. Then, I finally got into Yellow Face by R.F. Kuang and saw the same character archetype in the narrator.

When I say the 'bitter middle-class' character I mean the type of character that is not extrodinary by any standards and blames any possible external factors for what they view as a 'failing'. Here's what I mean in narrative context: Oliver covets the type of social life and charisma Felix has and fixates on the wealth that Felix comes from as the source(Saltburn), Kipperlily thinks Riz's dad dying is an unfair advantage actually its pretty fair to assume she thinks all the heinous shit the Bad Kids had to deal with regularly were unfair advantages that gained them prestige they didn't earn through 'hard work' like she did(Fantasy High/D20), Juniper Hayward blames diversity and diverse stories as a whole as to why she has found no success as a white author in publishing compared to her 'friend' Athena who has found massive success through her writing (Yellow Face).

The three of them are meant to be wrong in the end because they were lashing out at those a flawed system chose to champion. But there's some block on really digesting these characters as being part of the 'bitter middle-class' and I can't tell if it's cuz so many people who consume this media are from the middle class or cuz people can't look deeper than the surface when it comes to the media that they consume.

In the case of Saltburn I can only assume that it was because Fennel doesn't know how to write anything that's particularly class-conscious and tried to dress the movie up at the very end like a thriller eat the rich film. The ending of the film really hurts it in the end, and I have trouble believing that it was properly workshopped to actually fit with the rest of the story. I have seen so many people take Oliver's final monologue and run with it, though. Either people use the closing monologue to condemn the way the film fails at being a class commentary, or they explain away the shortcoming with the argument of the film is that it is an upper-class horror story about the middle and lower class. But neither interpretation really acknowledges that Oliver as a character lied for attention both from Felix and his family but Oliver's parents as well (sure some of what they say is likely true but there is a good chance a decent amount of the information he feeds his parents is not the truth). Oliver spends 3/4 of the movie bitter about being mediocre in comparison to those around him at Oxford. Through his own perspective, he is putting in work that his peers can omit because of their wealth and Oliver's inability to be significant socially amplifies that bitterness. To Oliver there is only two ways to be 'interesting' at Oxford and that's to be rich and cultured or poor and traumatized.

Kipperlilly Copperkettle is real interesting just from a solid fandom perspective for me. So many fucking D20ers complained about the lack of redemption of any of the Rat Grinders but especially Kippers despite the fact that she's the one with the foulest mindset. Girl, you cannot be complaining about how people with dead parents get a leg up in life and expect any sort of sympathy. She's probably the best demonstration of this character archetype (would you call it archetype?) simply because Kipperlilly is just so deeply out of touch with reality. She's mad that the way she specifically approached adventuring doesn't get rewarded in the type of world that she's in and on top of that there is nothing else to make her standout amongst the crowd of other decent adventurers. Except Copperkettle Fourdogs is also one of those middle-of-the-road kids that's incredibly upset that none of their work will ever be recognized because it simply does not hold a candle to what other people are doing. I think this is why she got the amount of sympathy that she did from certain parts of the fandom too, a lot of y'all saw yourselves in her huh? Because it is a flawed system to be like: if you show up and do the work then you'll be acknowledged, and then turn around and require more because now everybody's done the work so who really deserves it now? But the way Kippers handled that by lashing out at some of the most traumatized kids in school not even about shit that happened while they were at school and being menaces but rather something that happened way before the Bad Kids were even a party is insane and out of touch. And sure you sort of see the work being put in by Jawbone to change that mindset but Kipperlilly doesn't care. She willingly accepts the rage in order to better dominate this group of kids she believes coasted into saving the world several times.

I forgot where I was going with this outside of : There is more than just eat the rich and wrongfully outraged rich people narratives when it comes to class, and I feel like this ignoring of a whole like a subgenre of narratives involving the bitterness surrounding what society deems worthy of interest.

Jesus Christ this is long I commend you if you got this far and didn't think I sounded like a total idiot because I definitly think that I sound like one at this point

as always, i can endure any torment as long as it's narratively fulfilling. would fuck me up but i'd be cool with it.

in the "this is how mallory can still win" corner of my brain i'm holding the concept that she can always be useful and therefore may loophole out of dying in one hand and the fact that in her dream she was looking at the tree and therefore it might be someone else who's dead in the other. given her whole dog arc it'd be nice if she managed to make it out, but it just may not happen.

i may need to elaborate on dog arc actually. i don't know if i've gone into depth about it here just but i tend to compare her and hayward to dogs in that their fulfillment comes from an external source. the difference between the two of them is that carpenter got the out she wanted from the faith, spent time doing work she enjoyed, and now she's "put the collar back on" in season three, willingly choosing to go for this plan with the inherent dogness of "let me die useful" - because isn't that the dog's way? the desire to be good?

meanwhile hayward's dogness comes from the fact that he ceases to function without a higher authority. he's suicidal in the second season because he feels purposeless, and when he makes the god with paige, he's overjoyed. he's the only member of the main four who hasn't outright condemned his god yet and it's so goddamn funny to me. he is content with the state of things. the only man who has ever wholly benefited from a god. bless his heart.

so uh. steering away from that tangent. given that carpenter has willingly put herself in this position of wanting to be of use to someone and die that way, it'd make sense if she did get to die useful and do a treesplosion at the end, but i think it'd also be fun if someone was like "you can still be useful. die useful later"

or yknow if she was gearing to die and faulkner was like "I NEED HELP" and she was like "well i guess this counts as being useful" and Ceased so she could go help him but i think that's too aligned to my personal interests to happen but I Think It Would Be N[i am grabbed by a comedically long stick and pulled offstage]

my 20th birthday

to be completely honest, I never thought I would make it this far into life. I guess I had always sorta imagined myself dying young. September is always a hard fucking month, I hate the memories I have with it. I always get so excited but so let down at the end of it all. I was really scared you know, god I was absolutely terrified. The added worries of just life made everything so hard. This past month has been extremely hard mentally. I get scared to reach out to jordan, I'll be honest. I still love and trust him but I don't want him to think I'm not trying. I think I'm trying harder than ever. I've gotten better talking to sym, we're best friends now. Remember how I never thought I'd have another one? crazy hm...

I loved my birthday. it was one of the bests in a while. I've been really struggling lately, like...really bad. I get scared of myself a lot of the time. I almost attempted again. I love my friends but I'm just so....tired. it was a good weekend break though, I liked seeing Hayward and jordans house. I like going to the bay with them.

„Do you wanna live in Delacroix?“, You ask Bucky as you set the table for dinner. 

“Why are you asking?”

“I saw how much you enjoyed your time there and we’re still looking for a house. So...why not looking there?” 

After you got kidnapped in your old house, Bucky refused to live there again. 

“I thought you loved the city life.” 

“I don’t really care anymore where we live as long as we live together.” 

„I’m really lucky to be your husband.“, Bucky kisses you but stoppes as he receives a call from Sam. „There was an attack at the GRC conference. Sam needs me.“

„Go. Be safe. And kick their asses.“, you smile weakly as Bucky leaves your flat. 

As soon as he left, you check your phone seeing the messages you received, warning you about the upcoming attack hours ago. 

After making sure that Alex is safe and he’s taken care of you leave your apartment as well. A car is already waiting for you, taking you to the building where the conference is being held.

You’re standing in the shadow watching Sharon, Bucky and Sam talking. You know that Sam and Bucky will have each other’s back. That’s why you only observe Sharon and eventually follow her. 

Batroc points a gun at Sharon demanding more money. Morgenthau points her gun at her too. 

You curse under your breath as you come out of your hiding and without any warning you shot Batroc straight in the head without shaking. Sharon and Morgenthau shot each other while the later is deadly injured. 

“You are a great actress, Sharon. I’m really impressed.”, you say as you put your gun away. 

“Why didn’t you tell me your plan? I warned your days before the kidnapping that they will come for you. I don’t understand it.”, Sharon got shot in her stomach, breathing hard. 

“I knew Hydra would come- sooner or later. They wanted Alex to experiment with. And I also knew Valentina would think you’re the Power Broker and wanted to work with you. Thats why I spoke on your answering machine. So that you could gain her trust. That James and Sam found it was a coincidence but you played along. Really good. So when they came to kidnapp me, I offered myself. And they couldn’t believe their luck. Pregnant, vice-director of Shield and the wife of the winter soldier. I knew they would take me and experiment with me with their last serum they got. The last serum because the others got stolen and I knew Zemo would kill the doctor eventually. They wasted their last serum on me without knowing I’m immune. And when they think you’re dying they tell you everything. I needed that information about Valentina. It was definitely worth it.”

You look on your watch.

“Sam will be here any minute so I better be going. You...” you look at Sharon “will stay here in the city. I have a little present for you in the next days. And you...” you look at Karli “You shouldn’t have stolen the serum from me. And you shouldn’t have fight James. Killing the other super soldier wasn’t my plan in the beginning. You’re just a means to an end.” 

You walk away and leave the hall before Sam sees you.

Cameras and lot of people were standing and watching Sam reasoning and convincing the GRC. You pass the police officers as they prevent the crowd to come even closer. „Did you write that down first or was it off the top of your head? Spoken like the true Captain America.“, you smile as you walk to the men. „Ah. Director Barnes, good seeing you here. There’s lot to talk about after todays event.“ The man says after he shakes your right hand. „And we will.“, you lay your left hand on top of his while still shaking. „(Y/f/n), what are you doing here? Does Bucky know you’re here?“, Sam looks at you suspiciously. „SHIELD is always there where bad things happen.“, leaving the equivocation unanswered. 

„Excuse me, I need to make sure that the remaining terrorist are safely escorted to jail.“, and with that you turn around but not walking to the cars where the rebels are in but to another car in the shadow. A man walks up to you with a little device in his hand that looks very similar to a remote. „Thanks, Stan. Good work. See you later.“ You say as you take the device and walk further. You knock at the car window and open it. „Do you want me to press the button or do you want to do it yourself?“, you say in perfect German. „I��ll do it on my own.“, answers the man in the car, taking the device and presses the button. The explosion is huge and lightens up the inside of the car your inside. „Good. Very good. We’re even.“, says the man. You smile knowing that James is finally off Zemo’s list. You sacrificed the flag smashers for James, but you don’t feel any remorse. You would do anything to protect your family.

„(Y/f/n)!“, James shouts. He’s running and looking for you in panic. „James, I’m here.“, you scream back as you run in his direction. „God, (y/f/n), what the fuck are you doing here?! It isn’t safe here for you. For you both.“ Bucky looks at you and on your stomach. „When Sam told me you were here and the car exploded, I thought… I thought…“ He can’t finish the sentence and you hug him tightly. „I’m sorry. I didn’t want to scare you. I’m here as a representative for SHIELD.“

„Sharon’s here. I’ve heard she will stay in town.“, Bucky grunts still not forgiving her. „I know. I forgave her. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trusting her, but I know the bad influence Madripoor has on people. Maybe she will change.“, you lie.

„Your kindness always amazes me.“, says Bucky as he kisses your head.

Three days later you open the door to your office. A small brown package is on your desk. You open it and as you realize what it is you can’t help but smile. Inside of the package was the book „The prince“ by Machiavelli. It’s the same book you sent Zemo some time ago. You open it and see Zemo’s graceful handwriting One is controlled but the other is still standing

You know immediately who Zemo is referring to. Bucky and Walker.

When you found out that HYDRA is working on the serum again, and when you stole it and then the flag smashers sole it from you, you knew it was just a question of time till Zemo will be out of jail and take a side. And you wanted him to be on yours. So you visited him and made sure that you both are on the same page- that the other super soldiers have to die but not James. You made clear that Bucky wasn’t a threat. That he’s broken trying to make amend for his killing. That he has settled and there is no need for Zemo to kill Bucky. And Zemo liked you- you were both born in Leipzig and you both had difficulties to cope with loss. Two smart minds wanting to destroy the serum.

You take the book to your bookshelf making a mental note to visit Zemo in the Raft.

Someone knocks at your door. Sharon Carter. 

„They offered me full pardon.“, says Carter as she walks into your office. „I know.“ You say. „I wrote the text that the senator read aloud.“ 

„So, I’ll be working in my old division?“, asks Sharon. „No. Thats not happening, Sharon.“, you laugh.

„But I’ve got you a job that’s even better. You will work for SWORD. Its an extra-governmental intelligence agency. Probably you’ve heard about them. Their former leader Hayward was a pain in the ass. Like Pierce 2.0. I’ve heard Fury wants to work there and because of his relationship with Valentina, I’m not trusting him at the moment. So you will work there and keep an eye on everyone. Oh and I hope you told your assistant that the super soldiers are off the menu. But there are other things we can offer.“

„I already called her about that. But there is still one question I have. How did you become director?“

You smile wickedly. „Well, the arrogance of men never ceases to amaze me. When Sam gave the shield away it was just a question of time till they demand a new Captain America. And everyone wanted John Walker. Received three Medals of honor, good looking and a soldier who does everything  what is commanded than rather what is right. I didn’t like him. James told me years ago, that you can see madness in people’s eyes and man, his eyes were full with madness. So I didn’t agree with the board but the director and vice-director both has to agree. So I made them an offer. I told them that for this voting they can outvote me if everyone on the board agrees with our director. And if Walker does his job well I will leave my position. But if he fails, I will be the new director. All they did was laugh at me. They of course outvoted me and they even planned my goodbye-party. And I just waited and waited. And with Walker being so unstable I didn’t waited for long. And now I’m here and the director is gone and most of the board members as well. Arrogance is dangerous. Never estimate your opponent.“

„So where is Walker now?“

„I’m not sure but I’m pretty certain that he’s with Valentina and they are up to no good. Valentina wants James dead and Walker wants Sam dead because Sam is the new and definitely the better Captain America.“

A week later, you, Bucky and Alex are sitting in the car heading to Sam’s home town. The letter from Tony is laying in your purse. The envelope is still sealed but the answer in it isn’t unknown to you. You’ve known the answer for years, never telling anyone, not even James. People would be intimated if they’d known your heritage- your dad’s and your mom’s. And you learned that being an intimating woman only makes men defensive and its hard to work with them. Men need to feel strong and useful and that’s your strength. You always know how to make men feel that way around you, even it it’s just an illusion and even now that you’re the director they don’t feel intimated and that makes them careless and easy to read. 

„I never felt so much happiness than in this moment right now. It feels like a new chapter is starting.“, you grin at Bucky caressing his cheek. His five o’clock shadow tickles you and he leans against your hand. 

„Falling in love with you in Bucharest seems like so long ago. It’s been so difficult, James. This is a dream come true. Having a normal life with you is all I’ve ever wanted.“

Bucky stops the car in the middle of the road. He bends over you, kissing you possessively and pressing you against your car door. „You’re my home, (y/f/n). You’re my constant, my hope, my life and my family. Being loved by you is the greatest gift.“ He kisses you again, trailing soft kisses on your neck. 

You giggle freely and even though it arouses you tremendously you stop Bucky. „No sex in the car, while Alex is still here.“

Bucky grins playfully as he starts the car. „We will continue this later.“

Sam’s hometown celebrates the new Captain America and as Bucky arrives they also celebrates him as the white wolf. 

You danced and talked and ate and forgot everything you’ve ever done for the sake of your family until you receive a text message from Stan, who is securing the surrounding. Fury’s on his way to Delacroix. Accompanied by Hill and Dave. 2 minutes.

Dave is a co-worker of you. Of course he doesn’t know anything but his betrayal angers you anyway and there will be consequences.

„Is that Fury? What is he doing here? And why does he look so angry?“, asks Bucky Sam. Bucky hands you Alex over, who was relaxing on Bucky’s shoulders and both men are walking up to him, ignoring or maybe just forgetting that it is you who holds the most power and the reason for Fury’s visit. 

Everyone is underestimating you just like you’ve always wanted.

HOLY SHIT THIS EPISODE TORE ME TO SHREDS & IT’S VISUALLY MY FAVORITE EPISODE.

hayward fucking lied | that manipulative weasel tried to pin all this on wanda to make her look like the bad guy and at the end she did absolutely nothing wrong except maybe cost them new windows. i believe hayward knew that wanda was going to be the power source to bring vision back to life. he hinted at it and i think he tried to push her at SWORD headquarters. when the hex happened, he put the missile on the drone knowing damn well wanda would stop it. he knew that after he detected that she created a copy of vision within the hex, she was the key to completing their rebuilding of vision. overall, my hatred for the man has reached a new level and i hope he dies at the end of the series.

white vision | obviously referring to project catarract that darcy found in SWORD’s hardrive. when i said i wanted white vision to appear, i didn’t mean this way and i’ve seen some theories floating around that maybe james spader will voice this vision? and if this is the big secret actor paul has been saying he’s going to work with — i will laugh and cry because i am one of those who was thinking we’d get an x-men cameo with either professor x or magneto and i’m gonna hold out hope. if it is just vision vs. vision, i don’t doubt i’ll love it. so excited to see this vision though it’ll hurt to see vision battle wanda since this whole episode just showed us how much they loved each other.

wanda and vision’s relationship | we got to see a very sweet and deep moment between the two in the avengers compounds after age of ultron. when i tell you i damn near cried into my pillow, it made my heart ache. they really are fucking soulmates. i didn’t originally care for the couple but this show really showcased how despite being the pairing of a witch and an android, there is still so much LOVE between these two. i broke when i saw the deed to the lot and vision’s note of growing old together. excuse me marvel i didn’t ask to be emotionally obliterated, thanks.

wanda’s chaos magic | clearly, we see that wanda is responsible for the creation of the hex. i think she didn’t purposely block out her creating the hex. when she said she doesn’t know how it happened, she truly doesn’t. we’ve seen her lose control once and that was after the death of pietro but it wasn’t as strong before. i believe she just blacked out a bit since she hasn’t used that much of her power before. i think with literally no one (where tf was clint? the avengers?? literally anyone????) there to help her grieve and basically keep her grounded, the wave, referring to her powers, did drown her this time and consumed her into this escapist reality where she no longer felt that pain.

wanda & sitcoms | now we learn why the show has been in the style of various television sitcoms. she’s grown up with them since she was a little girl in sokovia - her favorite being the dick van dyke show. hello i’m soft af. even when her parents were killed and she was practically at death’s door with pietro, television was there to help her get through it. in the HYDRA base, wanda still has a television to watch and help her through the days. what this episode told us is that television is wanda’s constant. i mean this in the sense that unlike people, television has always been there for her. wanda has not had a consistent group of people around her. it’s a revolving door when it comes to the people in wanda’s life. we see her alone and almost abandoned when we see how the creation of the hex happened. television is her escape which is what television provides for everyone. that’s the purpose of television shows - give you an escape from your life because in shows like the ones that have influenced wanda’s reality, they always turn out fine by the end of the episode.

agatha’s therapy | throughout this whole thing agatha is sort of giving wanda much needed therapy even if the end goal is not in wanda’s best interest. she mentions very quick about wanda being a young witch which could coincide with the idea that wanda’s always had this sort of gene in her like pietro and other mutants (if they’re going to use her to confirm the existence of the x-gene which im dying for tbh). she has a clue from the get go as to what wanda is but until she has the full picture, she doesn’t reveal it until the end of the episode. she confirms that ‘fietro�� came from a necromancy spell sooo does that mean she’s using a dead body? he was her eyes and ears but of course, wanda didn’t give up much and that plan was foiled.

wanda resurrecting vision | we learn that wanda never stole vision and brought him back to life. because she and vision are both born from the mind stone, it’s not shocking as to her practically using the chaos magic to create a vision for herself. it also explains why vision can’t live outside the hex - he was born from it and without the chaos magic, he’ll die. also, it’s peppered throughout the episode that the two are soulmates so there’s that aspect to it as well. so she hasn’t been puppeteering a corpse - that image of dead vision stems from wanda’s trauma and mentality starting to chip away at her reality. it also proves how fucking powerful this woman is because like agatha said, she’s supposed to be a thing of myth. while she did use her magic to create/resurrect vision, he’s still his own being in a sense - she doesn’t control him completely. he has his own thoughts and perceptions. he’s aware and the fact that something of wanda’s creation can do that really just showcases the power she holds in her.

agatha’s backstory | seems that agatha’s pretty smug when she’s confronted by her coven leader. it’s pretty easy to see through (in my opinion) the pleading to her mother and the rest of her coven. also kathryn hahn is simply eating up this fucking role and i’m here for it. now we learn why she has the broach, it’s her mother’s which is sweet but seeing agatha throughout the series and in the past, seems more of a token of practically massacring her coven that day. i liked seeing that snippet of her past and it seems like she’s always been drawn to the darker and more sinister side of witchcraft.

wanda’s power | as agatha comments at the end, wanda truly doesn’t know how dangerous she can be. wanda can barely remember how the hell the westview hex happened. while yes i’m here for wanda being shown and known as the most powerful being in the mcu, it’s also worth noting that she is dangerous. at the beginning of the episode, agatha rubs her nose in about how simple a protection spell is or how she studied to get her powers to where they are today. wanda doesn’t know anything about witchcraft or spells. yes, she gained powers from the infinity stone but she was made to be a weapon and even after being brought into the avengers, she wasn’t taught magic or how to tap into her chaos magic. she didn’t even know that her power was considered magic. i also think wanda’s powers are very much rooted in her emotions. we saw what she could do in age of ultron when she felt her twin die. wanda is powerful but so dangerous in this aspect. not saying that this is a bad thing but it separates wanda from other magic users like agatha, dr. strange and even loki. agatha has had years of knowledge and training to be as powerful as she is now. what separates wanda from the others is that she doesn’t have the control and mastery like them. she didn’t know that her powers could make another vision or alter the reality of a town populated by 3,000+ people. agatha is right, wanda is dangerous because she hasn’t had years to control the power she holds at her fingertips.

I started to write down my takeaway from episode 6 and it turned into a huge rant 👀

If you don't have Wandavision spoilers filtered and haven't seen episode 6, either don't read this or filter the tag

Pietro knows. He fucking knows. What does he know? I don't know! But he knows.

Eventually they'll probably drop the multiverse bombshell on us and reveal that this is Peter from X-Men but there's always the possibility that they won't. Maybe wanda accidentally made a fake Pietro which is why he's so different, and he'll disappear when Wanda drops the barrier. I hope not.

Vision will almost certainly die when the barrier drops, but he's the kind of guy who would convince Wanda to drop it anyway. I mean, when he was being torn apart, he was begging them to help the people inside! My dude was DYING and didn't ask for help for himself! He's so selfless!

We've lost our gal in the chair thanks to Hayward handcuffing Darcy and leaving her to get caught in the barrier. Asshole.

And speaking of, can we all just agree that if any of us were in the MCU, we'd all collectively and without hesitation punch Hayward in the face? Okay? Okay.

And Agnes. She's more important than any of us know. She's been showing signs from the beginning that she's not as clueless as everyone thinks and she probably knows exactly what's going on. But she's not strong enough to break through Wanda's spell entirely so she's still forced into the cheery, ditzy neighbour role. She's doing what she can to drop hints, break through and escape but she's not quite strong enough.

FINALLY after a quick scan through the tags and a following google search (possible spoilers for future episodes here) is turns out Wanda's children are MCU superheroes called Wiccan and Speed.

Oh and Wiccan has a husband 👀🏳️‍🌈👀🏳️‍🌈👀🏳️‍🌈

Back to the point I made at the beginning, though, I find Pietro's behaviour super interesting. Like I said, he knows. He's under Wanda's spell, sure, but he's more free than anyone else in Westview. It's like he's following a script that Wanda gave him and filling in the role he was given. Not because it's who he is but because it's what Wanda wants. And she's not forcing him to do it, did you see the look on her face when he appeared in episode 5? She had no idea! Wanda has nothing to do with Pietro's arrival or his behaviour!

I think he's under her spell enough to be tricked into thinking that whatever Wanda does is a good idea. He's tricked into liking her spell on Westview. But Wanda doesn't know she's doing it.

She's way more powerful than she thinks, and that's kinda scary considering how powerful everyone knows she is. She almost certainly cast her spell on Westview by accident. Maybe she was hurting so badly that she subconsciously called out to her brother across the multiverse, calling him to Westview. Maybe it started back when the spell was first cast, but he didn't appear until episode 5 because her magic was weakened by having to reach across the multiverse. I'm just spitballing here but maybe Peter was hearing her call for days before she finally started to think about him directly in episode 4. When she and "Geraldine" spoke about him and his death. Then maybe in episode 5 when Billy and Tommy asked about him and she admitted she was sad, she was longing for him so badly that finally her call for her brother became so strong that he was pulled through universes to Westview. That's why it took him several episodes to show up. Maybe the fact that he's from another universe is why her magic doesn't work as well on him, or maybe it'll start getting stronger over the coming episodes and he'll succumb to the spell more and more over time until he's as much in her control as anyone else.

And don't get me wrong, what Wanda's doing is terrible, but I can understand why she's doing it. I'm not excusing her actions at all, but she's in terrible pain and needs a safe haven, if only for a short while. Eventually she's going to have to drop the barrier and face the world that hurt her again, but she needs time to herself, in a little world of her own where everyone she loves is still alive and no one wants to hurt her.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE NEW WANDAVISION EPISODE

Don’t click the cut if you don’t want spoilers, I won’t be shy with them, neither are they in chronological order. I’m not that good at theorizing but I’m just putting what I noticed out there.

PIETRO

Pietro is definitely not the Pietro we know. He is way too self aware, constantly refers to life outside of Westview, and as expected, has selective amnesia. Wanda directly asks about childhood memories of their own Halloweens, and he doesn’t answer correctly. Also, the line “you probably suppressed a lot of the trauma”. ohohoh. There is definitely something off, but he’s the couch surfer, good-with-kids, troublemaker uncle we expected, which I can excuse.

HOWEVER

“I’m just trying to do my part, okay? Come to town unexpectedly, create tension with the brother-in-law, stir up trouble with the rugrats, and ultimately give you grief. I mean, that’s what you wanted, isn’t it?” Also, “Next thing I know I heard you calling me” this is pretty disturbing. Who called him to Westview? Wanda says she did, but doesn’t know how she did it. Her reaction to him coming back just proves more she’s just a puppet to a higher power. Who? 

“Why do you look different?” Wanda is not the one who recast Pietro.

“If I see any funny business I’m going to magic you into a pickled herring” Is Wanda referring to the “red herring” writing tool? Is Pietro just a distraction? It would make sense given her color scheme is all about red... Let’s see if I’m right. Other than that it’s a funny gag.

LITERALLY EVERYTHING PIETRO SAYS IS DISTURBING AND/OR SHOWS HIS AWARENESS OF THE SITUATION.

OTHER WESTVIEW RESIDENTS

Several other Westview residents seemingly become aware of the situation; Wanda’s control is slipping. Herb asks, “Is there something I can do for you? Do you want something changed?” possibly referring to the whole simulation, not the neighborhood watch rounds on Halloween.

Agnes is scared. She is DEFINITELY NOT Mephisto or the one controlling the simulation. Vision snapped her from Wanda’s control, nothing fell apart, she was terrified. 

Speaking of Agnes: there is a parallel to 1x03 “Now In Colour” wherein Agnes hesitates before telling Vision he’s dead. “Because we’re all...” “Because we’re all what?” becomes a parallel to Vision saying “Because I’m what?”. All in all pretty disturbing, this could point to a theory in which all the Westview residents are either dead or blipped but didn’t come back. However I’m pointing for dead or just missing, because there was nothing mentioned about missing people after the blipped were brought back in other movies. Marvel is notoriously bad about handling the consequences of the blip though, so I’m not holding my breath.

“Huh... These people, near the edge of town...They're barely moving. Are they alive?” Jimmy inadvertently says the most horrifying things...

THE TWINS

One of the twins has super speed, the other, reality-bending powers and telepathy. “A chip off the old Maximoff block” indeed.

WANDA: And please just remember to-- BOTH: Don't go past Ellis Avenue. We know, Mom. We know. Ellis Avenue is the edge of town, and the theory that kids can’t be mind controlled is proven correct: Agnes’ comment about that is mirrored. Wanda has apparently told the twins repeatedly to not go past Ellis Avenue. She can’t mind control them so she does the next best thing, set believable, parental restrictions and boundaries, like any “normal” parent would do, but with a far different intent behind it. Yikes.

I read on another post that Westview is basically Wanda living out her parents’ perfect life: this seems really logical now that her twins display the exact same powers as her and Pietro.

Hayward is a ✨d i c k✨

The stinky bastard is just as sus as we expected, he’s looking for the vibranium decay signature inside the anomaly to monitor Vision, assumingly to see how fast he’s dying. HE CAN SEE INSIDE WESTVIEW FOR GODSAKES.

Vision started decaying and being sucked back into Westview the instant he got out. He cannot exist outside the Maximoff anomaly.

Monica’s cells have been rewritten several times by the energy inside the anomaly: could this be a new super’s birth? A new Scarlet Witch?

That said, what kind of powers does she gain? The same kind used to keep the people in Westview “alive” (between quotes cause I’m not sure of my theory yet), so either the same powers as Wanda, or something involving immortality. Either way, holy shit I can’t wait.

Not only could Hayward see inside Westview, it was noted by SWORD people that a lot of people suddenly stopped moving. Wanda needs to focus on them moving to be able to control them: it gets a bit buggy and stops entirely later. Maybe it’s because she was focused on Pietro and the twins? The timeline between Wanda and Vision’s respective actions wouldn’t line up though.

S.W.O.R.D literally got ABSORBED by Wanda’s bubble expanding. What happens to Darcy?? She’s the only one of the trio who didn’t escape!!

THE AD

A recurring theme so far, this one is weirder than ever. No HYDRA or Stark symbolism this time, that’s probably been dropped with the advancing of the decades. The snack advertised is called “Yo-Magic: The snack for survivors.” Make of that what you will...

A TEMPORAL ANACHRONISM

This might be nothing, but I still find it interesting. The sign of the movie theater in one of the scenes lists two movies playing: The Incredibles and The Parent Trap. The first movie won’t come out until 2004, but The Parent Trap came out in 1998, which makes the timeline of the episode very fuzzy. Additionally, the twins didn’t age themselves up, they had no reason to, but it’s still suspicious. Does this happen in the 90s or the early 2000s?? The episode is in the style of a 90s sitcom (turned psych horror) and the show isn’t supposed to hit the early 2000s until episode 7, unless Wanda’s decided to speed things up. But why?

Gracie can already hear the music playing from the beach, despite being a good distance away. She can also feel her stomach doing flip flops as her anxiety consumes her, her mind instantly going to her messy nails she was desperately trying to hide.

Sasha and Emily are on either side of her, obliviously talking about a new show they are both watching. Gracie bites her lip as she nervously pulls down the short, pastel skirt she had on. Her mother had criticized her outfit before she left her house, telling her that people would think she is a slut if she continues to dress the way she does.

Gracie lets out a breath, gently shaking her head, burying her anxiety deep inside as she and her posse arrive at the party.

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed someone waving at her.

“Hey, Gracie.” She recognized the boy from her math class last year. He was a sweet kid named Vincent, who had tremendously helped her with algebra.

Her hand itched to wave back, but instead, Gracie rolled her eyes, continuing forward.

“Do you know that weirdo,” Emily asked incredulously.

Gracie scoffed. “As if I would be hanging out with someone like that.”

Her heart fell, knowing that Vincent could hear their conversation, but she covered it with a smirk, letting her green eyes filter over the crowd. She noticed a group of people standing around the keg and she began to walk over there. Normally, Gracie wouldn't drink, especially not the cheap beer the pogues supply, but she was in desperate need of something to distract her.

As she approached the keg, Gracie noticed it was manned by none other than Pope Hayward and JJ Maybank.

Gracie had never really spoken to Pope, but his father had catered for several of her father's events. She knew that he was a smart kid and he wasn't bad on the eyes. As far as she knew, he wasn't bad.

If there was anyone on this island who had a bigger reputation than her, it would be JJ Maybank. He was gorgeous, attracting every girl who was blessed enough to see him, including Gracie. The girl couldn't deny her attraction to the blond-haired surfer.

He's wearing his typical wife-beater tank top paired with black cargo shorts. It's the opposite of something any kook would wear and Gracie is loving it.

“Kook Princess,” JJ addressed with a smirk as they stepped up the keg. Noticing her friends he added, “And company.”

Yet again, Gracie had to force herself not to roll her eyes at his flirtatious behavior.

“Can I interest you in a taste of Milwaukee beverage?” the blonde asked sarcastically, his outstretched hand holding the filled red solo cup.

“Yes,” Gracie responded confidently, lifting her chin slightly while still maintaining eye contact with the blue-eyed boy.

Even JJ’s eyes widened in surprise. It wasn't too often people saw the queen kook drinking. Gracie reached out to grab the cup, dying to drown away her worries in shitty beer, but before she could grab it, JJ reacted, pulling the cup further away.

“Ah, ah, ah,” JJ said sneakily, lightly lifting his pointer finger off the cup to shake it, “What's the magic word, Princess?”

Gracie opens her mouth, already ready with a witty response, only to be cut off by a voice she has come to hate.

“Watch who you're talking to, dirty pogue,” Rafe says to JJ, slinging an arm over Gracie’s shoulders.

He wreaked of cologne and this time Gracie couldn't help but give an eye roll. Realizing what she did, the girl bit her lip, hoping that no one saw her slip up. But someone did, the blue-eyed boy who hasn't taken his eyes off the brunette girl since she got here. 

“Here you go milady,” JJ says, handing her the red solo cup with a slight bow, completely ignoring Rafe’s presence.

“Thanks,” Gracie said, giving JJ an unreadable look.

Before either of them could get another word in, Rafe practically dragged the girl away, leading her to a group of kooks she was all too familiar with. Gracie spots her older brother amongst the crowd, mentally groaning at the sight. She should have guessed it. Wherever Rafe is, Gavin isn't too far behind. The two of them have been best buds since high school and now they are in business school together. 

Assholes. Gracie thought with a giggle. 

Throughout the night, she stayed in the group. Never leaving to dance or get a new drink, however, her cup was never empty for too long. Rafe seemed to be taking advantage of the fact that the girl was drinking and he was constantly bringing her more.

“Hey, wanna get out of here,” Gracie heard his sluggish voice in her ear. Turning to face Rafe, she notices that his eyes are bloodshot and her jaw clenches realizing that he is probably coked out.

Gracie shakes her head, taking another sip out of her cup. “Not tonight, Rafe.” She did not want to put up with his bullshit right now.

Rafe quickly unwraps his arm from her shoulder, pushing her away. “Bitch,” he says, walking away and quickly taking interest in a tall blonde touron.

Gracie stands up as her eyes fill with tears, deciding to go home. She stumbles through the blurry crowd like a newborn deer.

Fuck. she thought. I'm shitfaced.

As she walks away from the crowd the music becomes quieter and quieter. Gracie has no clue where she is. Somewhere on the cut?

Before she knows it she's stumbling up to a house she doesn't recognize, the red solo cup still in hand. She spots a figure emerge out of the doorway and onto

the porch. 

Great. This is how I die.

“Gracie?” the voice questions, but it all sounds hazy to her. 

Well, that's fantastic. The murderer knows my name.

The person walks down the porch steps and towards her body. JJ. Her shoulders sag in relief at the sight of the blonde-haired boy. When he gets to her, Gracie immediately falls into his arms, JJ barely catching her before she falls to the ground.

“Gracie,” he says again, his tone clearly confused, “Are you drunk?”

Gracie pulls away from his strong arms with a sniffle to look into the blue eyes she suddenly craves so much.

“Shit. Are you crying?”

The green-eyed girl doesn't respond, too lost in his ocean eyes.

“Okay,” JJ says, holding her shoulders and clearly nervous, “I'm gonna get you home, m’kay.”

Gracie quickly shakes her head at the words.

“Okay,” he says thoughtfully, “You can't go home. Where should I take you?”

Without responding, Gracie leans up on her tippy toes, pressing her lips sloppily to JJ’s. The kiss is messy and rushed, but it's the best one she's ever had. Her hands reach up to tangle in his hair, deepening the kiss. She can taste the alcohol and weed on his lips, so she knows he's not sober either.

JJ suddenly pulls away, leaning his forehead on hers as her hands fall to his neck, playing with the hem of his top, both of them breathing heavily.

“Gracie, you're drunk.”

Gracie hums. “No,” she presses another kiss to his lips, mumbling into them, “I've wanted this for a long time.”

It's not exactly a lie. Any girl on this island would be lying if they haven't thought about sleeping with the hot blonde. 

It's JJ this time who deepens the kiss, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his hands on the small of her back. Gracie gasps when she feels him grab her ass, allowing him to slip his tongue into her mouth.

She's feeling euphoric as JJ leads her up the stairs and into the house. 

The place is trashed. Takeout boxes and beer bottles litter the floor and tables as the smell of weed fills all of her senses. But for some reason, she wouldn't have it any different.

Gracie is pulled back into reality when she feels herself being pushed back onto a bed, JJ’s amazing lips working wonders against hers. Her mind fills with questions of what the hell she is doing, but she pushes them aside when JJ starts kissing down her jaw and neck, definitely leaving a few marks.

“Are you sure,” he asks, stopping above the waist of her skirt, his eyes lifting to meet hers. 

Gracie nods with a smirk, pulling his lips back down to meet hers.

Max in the Black Lodge: A Life is Strange / Twin Peaks Crossover.

Part 4.

“Hello?”

Max tried to open her eyes, everything was black but she found she couldn't. She couldn't feel her body, she'd tried but there was no feedback from her mental commands. She couldn't even feel herself breathing, or her heart beating. She couldn't see or hear or feel. She was just, there. In the darkness.

Max began to panic, spared the sickening sensation in her gut but nonetheless terrified despite the lack of input from her endocrine system. She was dead. She was living out the last dying embers of her brain activity before oblivion snuffed out everything she'd ever been.

She'd never see Chloe again. Never feel the warmth of the sun on her face again. Never do anything ever again. She wanted to cry but couldn't. She wanted to scream but couldn't. She tried to work out how she'd died, but she couldn't even remember that. She remembered trying to rewind her way out of the Red Room with Rachel. She remembered pain. Unimaginable pain. Then it had all become black and empty.

Obviously there had been no reply to her query. She'd probably just imagined calling out anyway. All she could do was exist here in the blackness, waiting for her brain to run out of Oxygen and ATP with no contact with the world she was departing.

So this is what it means when they say we all die alone?

Calhoun Memorial Hospital, Twin Peaks WA.

Maxine Caulfield lay in a bed, a regular bleep came from the monitors to her side. Cardiac rhythm, 75bpm normal sinus. Blood Pressure 117/83 mmHg. SpO2 98%. All normal. GCS 4, about as bad as it gets.

Doctor William Hayward, mere weeks from retirement looked solemnly down on her. It was happening again. Her condition eerily similar to Ronette Pulaski. Complete catatonia rather than coma. What trauma had turned this young visitor to the town so far inwards upon herself? Was it related to the events of the early 90's with Ronette and Laura? The conspiratorial hushed conversations between Hawk and Bobby served only to fuel his suspicions. The girl had been up in the woods, the source of all the dark secrets of the town's past .

The two other girls had checked out fine. The blue haired one had been teetering on the edge of hysteria and was now feeling the benefit of the 2 valium he had given her. She sat now, drowsy and tearful at her friend's side tenderly holding her hand.

The other, the blonde had appeared strangely calm, a little vague and detached but physically fine. She too stayed with her friends but had just excused herself to visit the restroom.

Dr Hayward planned to do an EEG, there was still a possibility of an organic cause for her condition though cranial x-ray had shown no apparent trauma either diffuse or focal to her brain. But he wanted to be sure, wanted to see what activity was going on in her head. Wanted to give hope that Maxine was still in there somewhere. Wanted desperately not to see anything that indicated that the strangeness and horror had returned to Twin Peaks.

Prescott Memorial Hospital, Arcadia Bay, Oregon:

It had been a generally settled night on the psychiatric ward, George Wisnowski had been up and about through the night and had not been able to settle despite PRN Zopiclone and Lorazepam but he'd been no management problems, just a bit manic and restless. Other than that, the only other notable event overnight had been Nathan Prescott's nightmares.

The day staff had begun to trickle into the office, most cradling their morning Starbucks like a precious newborn baby.

Joanne Steele savoured the thought of behaving likewise to the glass of wine she'd have when she got home. She just had to get through handover and her night's work would be done.

And so she began her run down of the patients, exercising that particular skill unique to nurses the world over of finding 16 different ways of phrasing 'Settled and Slept’.

As she progressed, the waking state of the morning shift, fuelled by 100% Arabica shifted from inert to neutral, the dead eyes pointed at Joanne gradually gaining just enough sparkle to negate the temptation to check some of them for a pulse.

“Nathan Prescott, he had something of an unsettled night. He woke about two screaming out in his sleep. When we asked him about it he said he could hear Maxine Caulfield in his head screaming for Chloe. Maxine and Chloe, as you may know were involved in exposing the whole Jefferson scandal, and Nathan slipping back into ruminating on this period of his life even subconsciously could adversely affect his recovery."

Joanne leant back with a sigh. Job done.

“And that, ladies and gentlemen, is your happy bunch. I wish you all a very good day. I for one, am outta here”.

“I've got to get out of here”.

Max’s internal dialogue. She'd come to the conclusion she wasn't actually dead. She'd lingered non-corporially in the formless black for so long she couldn't possibly be lying dead in a heap in the Ghostwood.

That was about the only comforting thought she had. Any further analysis of her apparent situation ended that comfort. Lost, trapped, helpless, alone and with nothing to work with vis à vis an exit strategy. Max could only rate herself as 'Utterly fucked’ and quite possibly about to go profoundly mad from sensory deprivation.

Max had already begun to succumb to despair. Screaming in her mind for Chloe, her beautiful, bold, blazed, and blue angel. The evocation of her name infused with every ounce of love Max had bringing that face to life in her mind.

Max had to find the way back.

For Chloe.

For love.

Chloe sat, fighting the long futile fight against sleep. What was she to do? Sleep? While Max lay there? What if she missed some sign that her little twee hipster was still there? What if (Chloe could barely bring herself to even formulate the thought) Max slipped away while Chloe snored away next to her, oblivious? She could have split the vigil with Rachel, but Rachel didn't really know Max that well, Rachel had gone through her own trauma in those woods, trauma she had yet to share, and lastly, Rachel had seemed, just not completely there since Max had brought her back.

Speaking of which, Chloe wondered why Rachel was taking so long in the restroom, she'd said she was going there simply to wash her face a little just to freshen up and keep awake. Chloe rose from her chair wearily, her eyes never straying far from Max and backed towards the restroom door. Reaching it she rapped on the door with her knuckles.

"Hey Rachel? You ok in there?"

Rachel Amber stared into the mirror. Smiling benignly and fixing her hair.

"I'm fine Chloe. How's Max?".

"No change, you be out soon or what?"

"In a minute".

The voice strangely toneless, the look in her eye fey and dangerous. The reflection in the mirror, not her own.

Chloe, shrugged and sat back down next to Max, Rachel was a tad vain after all.

"How's Max?"

"How's Max?"

Rachel grinned into the mirror muttering the phrase sarcastically to herself.

"How's Max?"

The face in the mirror leered back.

"How's Max?"

"How's Max?"

An owl hooted.

"How's Max?"

I am so grateful for WandaVision as a character piece. (Obviously despite the one stain, and I still think the Romani culture could have been integrated through this show. So that’s still a dumb insult.)

Getting a flashback to her childhood it would’ve been easy to drop some hints. They were wise enough to leave out those three crosses that seem so weird from any perspective in Civil War.

I have been... not amused about the fact Wanda never was called the Scarlet Witch (like Nat wasn’t called Black Widow in IM2). But now this was used to a storytelling advantage and my deepest thanks go out to comic book writer James Robinson. Who finally set down to give Wanda her own series that focused on her as a character (and ugh, he had to roll with previous ret-cons and decided to come up with another to leave his mark on the biological parentage palooza that is the Maximoff twins..... honestly I’m waiting for the reveal that Wanda and Pietro aren’t even related anymore at this point......) and dove into the magic aspects.

And now the show could go where the comics weren’t when Wanda was introduced in the MCU and voila THE Scarlet Witch is born. (Something that is now in the 616 universe a legacy title held by previous witches and even a Scarlet Warlock existed before.) Chaos magic. :3 Gotta love it. Her powers got amplified, she is completely untrained and nobody even figured out that it didn’t start with stone. I like how this opens up doors.

My best guess is that she saw Pietro before he went in with the stone and protected him in a way there as well. So that he gained speed instead of dying like everybody else. The way she unconsciously used a probability hex. Thank you, Agatha, for uttering those words.

I feel a bit of VINDICATIOOOOOONNNNN!!!!!!! because we do see the Maximoffs enjoying all those US sitcoms. Because why not. (Apart from the fact that in 1999 there weren’t these nice complete dvd box sets, but using Olsen’s birthyear of ‘89 is such a mistake anyway...) It’s this type of wholesome fantasy family life that is perfect to escape to. Wanda being drawn to that always seemed a reasonable idea to me and here they laid it all out. Makes perfect sense to me.

The influence from Vision Quest has been there all along and I did wonder if we would end up with a white Vision, no emotion, just a weapon and *tada* here we fucking are. Is this the show that uses this devisive story that shook up everything about Wanda and Vision as a couple to make it... good???? Wanda lives with the emotional side. No memories, sure, but love and understanding and compassion and curiosity - all the things that made Vision so very human are present in this Westview version. While Hayward has the vibranium shell, lots of power I guess (can’t be all without the mindstone though, but could be upgraded in other ways), and just waiting for instructions. FUCK. THIS IS SO EVIL.

I wanted to see that scene with Wanda at S.W.O.R.D. HQ again. Well, wish granted and boy is this something else now.

AND VISION HAD LEFT THAT LITTLE PIECE OF PAPER THAT WAS A PROMISE OF GROWING OLD TOGETHER IN A NICE LITTLE HOUSE IN A TYPICAL NOT AT ALL SPECIAL LITTLE TOWN AND MY HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course this is where Wanda snapped. Nobody left, all this grief, and oops all that power. It just happened. And there is confusion, so she doesn’t know, all she wants is to feel the love again and not be alone.

The introduction of Agatha back from 1693 was also very nice. The other witches said she was bad, tried to kill her and look how that backfired. Liked how the purple color came to be. And now here she is with another super powerful witch that has zero knowledge about her origins and any rules of magic. Of course she freaks out. I do hope this is the start of a bantering mentorship in the future (it would be too stupid to loose Agatha as a character, they found the perfect actress and the magical side of the MCU has wonderful potential; we need more space and more magic).

Wanda called herself his next of kin!! She wanted to at least bury Vision, the last gesture to acknowledge his personhood!! He promised her a life together!!

I cannot fucking believe that Hayward tells Monica it’s a good thing she wasn’t there when her mother died and on tv tropes *he’s* the one who gets called jerkass woobie and informed wrongness and blah. Reeks of misogynoir

Uuuuugh, I just saw that. Oh boo hoo hoo, he had to live through the five years of the Blip! Like he’s the only one on all of Earth who had to do that? Newflash bro, half of all of Earth went through that. But you know, that totally excuses him being a total dick to Monica about her mom dying and why oh why aren’t Monica and Darcy and Jimmy being NICER to the poor white man? Won’t someone please think of his feelings???? Bet some white dude wrote that entry. >:(
