Hello new acafan fremb haha 😄

There's quite a lot of fandom-related and adjacent research outside TWC too. Even when I just do a naïve half-arsed search for "archive of our own" or "fandom" or some other random keyword in LISA (a library & information science database, because that's what I study rn) I get nice little lists of papers. I bet other subject databases will be similar.

For anyone who wants random names to look for, I've mentioned Lyn Robinson and Ludi Price in fandom+inf sci, and @ao3cassandraic mentioned Casey Fiesler whose focus seems to be in technology policy and public communication (going by Wikipedia). Looks like Fiesler's doctoral advisor, Amy Bruckman, is known for her research into online communities, which also seems relevant. Off the top of my head, I feel like media studies is a pretty natural subject to come into fandom studies from, but I know nothing about it so someone else would have to fill in. Queer studies/gender studies should also have a lot to say about fandom... Hmm... any literature or language/linguistics academics about? I think I saw something in TWC about fanfic by learners of English. HCI/CS-something and copyright law (hello Fiesler, I guess, lol) should have a good bit of overlap too...

Relatedly, I've also just learnt that Dr Lyn Robinson, co-author of a book that's mandatory reading for like 80% of the courses in the academic programme I'm enrolled in, has published research about AO3. Not only does she seem to be into the same sort of information science stuff that I am, she's also researched fanfiction. She's my new idol
