Love when writers do an insane amount of unnecessary research for their fics. I follow an author that did like 8 months of intense research into 14th century Scotland so they could write smut about it, and guess what. It was some fucking incredible porn AND I learned about old Scottish politics

ok, so i know we’re all going feral over the honda fight scene was a fuck scene and I agree, that shit is loaded with subtext and it’s on purpose.
however
let’s not lose sight of really juicy character stuff going on here
so, in terms of movie/plot this is obviously the Low Point that has to happen so the heroes can pick themselves up again and eventually win, screenwriting 101, etc. simple.
yes, they’re beating each other up in spectacularly entertaining big-budget-movie fashion. and yes, the homoeroticism is very much there (and played for laughs to avoid alienating the predominantly cishet white dudebro audience, though i find it very enjoyable regardless)
BUT.
this moment is Worst!Wolverine’s new rock bottom
Logan allowed himself the absurdity of hope that they could get out of this and that he can fix things, that he can undo what he did, he can save the people who he “allowed” to be massacred. (the exact circumstances are left intentionally vague, and i think we’re supposed to understand that he is very possibly less at fault than he considers himself to be and he’s punishing himself more than he needs to. he’s always been good at torturing himself. i like that it’s vague and we only have his unreliable account and the ghosts we hear in his head via cassandra.)
that hope has been dashed and with the most insultingly silly turn of phrase too, “an educated wish.” and now he’s angry. he has to punish himself for allowing himself that hope, and punish the person responsible for putting the idea in his head. there’s no hole to crawl into, no bar where he can drink himself to death. there’s no way for him to turn his anger and disgust inward and go back to rotting away.
that anger needs an outlet.
his self-hatred is unkillable, what better outlet than beating the ever loving fuck out of a man who is also unkillable. an eternally-regenerating punching bag for his eternal rage and grief.
and somewhere in the middle of that fight (cough cough that grin as he's pinned beneath wade and blood splatters across his mouth), he's fucking enjoying it. he leans into that rage and grief and along the way, comes alive. he hasn't had a fight like this in years, absolutely feral and filthy, blood and blades and equally matched in his total inability to just fucking die already.
getting so fucking angry that his grief is overridden by rage, and through that unrestrained rage, coming alive again????
that shit is tasty as hell, and i don’t want to forget about it amidst the spectacle of the rest of the scene

Huh, found an older art piece of the FSM as a child
My anatomy is meh here but oh well. The eyes around him are basically the onis and the dragons. Its the pressure he felt when they were making him chose sides in a war… yikes.
Rambling below cut (and sketch!)
I hc he ran away when he was 14-15. This is him as a kid, basically 14. Also, i thought it’d be fun if he looked like both his sons hence the two toned hair (personally think he made his kids asexually btw cause its hilarious)
I also like to think hes a lot like BOTH his sons personality wise.
ANYWAY that moment when trauma hits you like a truck. As a child soldier, you are robbed of your childhood (lloyd parallel fr) and then you run away making 16 realms, 2 kids and possibly humans as well. You ingrain it into your everyday life and never realise your coping methods are unhealthy until you suddenly realise you’ve hurt your sons, but its too late by then.
My angst material is focusing on the generational trauma here btw
I mean FSM runs from the pressure from everyone around him -> Wu and Garmadon feel pressure to uphold their fathers expectations and everyone elses -> Lloyd trying to uphold expectations from everyone around him…
(Also, so fun cause my lloyd design looks like his grandfather, OOF think of the parallels is what i’m saying)
This family makes me crazy…
Bonus,, sketch

Dyou think that when Stede is sad or having a bad day he just stays quiet? The average person can’t tell he’s not doing good but Ed just knows. His jokes are less enthusiastic, he makes fewer silly comments, and he’s got this faraway look in his eyes. And Ed knows he’s gonna have to ask multiple times before he actually gets Stede to tell him what’s up cause Stede will always just go “yes I’m fine don’t worry just tired ☺️” at first. But eventually when whatever is bothering him comes out he’ll get to spend the rest of the day wrapped up in Ed’s arms.

Dunmeshi modern AU but it’s just Laios, red in the face, frothing at the mouth, stuttering, waving his hands around, frantically googling images of Actual Animal Skeletons to show his friends, cannot-be-consoled levels of angry over the Halloween animal skeleton decorations in a JoAnn Fabrics while Chilchuck contemplates taking up day drinking as a competitive sport

Rest in Peace 🪦 Kermit the Frog
Beloved by the Joker, the Croaker, God
Wrongfully imprisoned in the meat closet, murdered by emos and died in agony. Taken too soon.
Hear the cries? The howls? You are hearing the brotherhood.. sisterhood… nonbinary hood (ally!) of the Muppet Joker.
May you and The Croaker be reunited in the afterlife once the time has come. And may sex in heaven be awesome.
Amen.
(written in my break room at work.. stay on that grind)

so it’s. it’s like. man this is so hard without my laptop.
alright so Crassus is a weird guy, existentially. There’s a tendency to speculate, assign, and insert him into whatever places are conspiratorial and shadowy because he fits into those narrative places with ease. My personal favorite (aside from all of it) is the idea that he may have pulled strings wrt to Sulla and Caesar’s conflict to help get Caesar out of it.
The Defeat of Rome: Crassus, Carrhae and the Invasion of the East, Gareth C. Sampson
In the universe that exists in my head, he definitely had a hand in it, but he didn’t really intend for Caesar to figure out he played a part in it, but Caesar’s good at puzzles, and noticing someone goes both ways. Binding someone to yourself goes both ways.
Crassus: The First Tycoon, Peter Stothard
This scene takes place sometime relatively soon after Sulla’s death. Crassus has complicated feelings about it, Caesar less so. Veni, vidi, vici, baby!
Here’s a bonus thing that I keep thinking about with them.
The Roman Revolution, Ronald Syme
like, utang na loob. and it is DEEP between them.
