I could never read those booktok-popular "dark romances" for. well. many reasons. BUT the biggest of all is that the instant a man wrongs a woman in a book I want his ass dead. don't care if you read smut, I read smut, but booktok is so fucking cringe I'm sorry, half of it is below Wattpad quality style of writing and the plotlines are corny and predictable. Saw a book on TikTok with a full page of warnings and the comments were like "what I'd give to read something with that much warnings" you mean you want to read something on AO3? Literally just go on a fanfiction website you will find exactly what you're looking for. (no shame to fanfic readers, I'm a fanfic reader, it's just... fanfics should not be considered 'peak literature')

"They're the dream partner!" No, they are a grooming pedophilic rapist, please close your mouth (I get that some people might have been in a similar situation in the past and might want to read these type of books to feel seen and that is more than valid! I'm talking about the people who read these types of books and then glorify the situations these people are in)

I am a big supporter of 'cringe culture is dead' so me considering this as cringe is a big deal because I never EVER call something cringe. But here we are.
