Ik I've made a post about it before but hospitals don't always have the ability to cater to life or death food allergies and are often not up front about this when admitting patients.
Yesterday I had to take my roomate to the hospital. He is allergic to soy, dairy, most tree nuts, several fruits, and he has severe celiacs, so no gluten whatsoever.
Little backstory, we are both disabled, and I am his advocate in situations like these, generally I am his caregiver, though I'd say it goes both ways.
So he is being pushed to accept hospitalization, and I am agreeing until I ask about food. The nurse says "it's a hospital, why wouldn't we be able to accomidate"
I am more direct, and say "many hospitals can't, I don't mind walking to the cafeteria to confirm." She seems to get frustrated but says she will call them and leaves after belittling me for having her check.
When she returns I'm told "they cannot guarantee any of the foods we have will be allergen free, but nothing in life is 100%"
My roomate came to the hospital because he was bleeding from ulcers caused by accidentally getting a single speck of grain alcohol based hand sanitizer on his tounge.
Td;lr hospitals don't always provide for allergens, and when I brought this up in a hospital with a nurse, I was basically told the patient should just eat allergens

Food Allergy
Tumblr media
Food Allergy: An unpleasant or dangerous immune system reaction after a certain food is eaten.
Yellow, orange, and red-orange were chosen to represent the range in severity of allergic reactions caused by food allergies. Teal was chosen as it is the color of food allergy awareness. White was chosen to symbolize always having to be hyper vigilant of what you are eating when you have a food allergy.
The symbol is an IgE antibody, the antibody that is overproduced to cause the most common allergic reactions. The prongs of the antibody in this symbol have a spoon and fork at their ends to symbolize food allergies specifically.
The shape in the middle is intended to represent a rounded square plate. If you would like to make a flag for your specific food allergy using this flag as a template you can remove the symbol in the center and put a symbol of your food of choice on the plate.
Here is the food allergy symbol by itself as a png:

My mother: We're going to have (dish loaded with soy) for dinner, what do you want?
Me: I'll probably just eat like, a party pizza and eat it in my room.
Her: No, we're cooking it outside.
Me: You're eating inside?
Her: Yes.
Me: I'll eat it in my room.
Her: It makes me feel bad when you say stuff like that.
Me, with a soy allergy who gets nauseous and headaches at the smell: That's, the point!

what really sucks about having both adhd and food allergies is that food tips are never geared towards both.
adhd food advice is like: have a handful of nuts for some protein/a quick snack! can’t. i’m allergic
then allergy friendly recipes are like: here’s an easy recipe that’s just 20 steps! like bitch? you think my adhd ass can handle anything more than 2 steps?
just the hoops and hurdles i have to go through to find food that’s 1. easy to prepare and 2. safe for my allergies is kinda ridiculous
tldr: having food allergies suck and the adhd doesn’t help at all
(though if anyone has adhd and allergy friendly food ideas, please lmk! i’m allergic to peanuts, all tree nuts, all beans/legumes, and peas)

I've never seen agere with the green heart before but it was the one that was linked so I just made both

Bruh I had my dietitian appointment that I’ve been waiting 6 months for just to get told to go back to the gp bc it’s “not a food issue”
YEAH NO SHIT LADY
Literally everything I eat makes me feel sick / throw up and or other really fun bodily functions that I don’t want to even think about
I had to fill out so many forms of invasive and incredibly personal information about my body and the reactions it had, for this lady to NOT EVEN LOOK AT THEM
She saw I filled out the food diary (everything I ate made me sick / ill / uncomfortable) but told me that I will still getting the nutrients I need despite it making me so sick so I should continue doing that
The only reason that food log was filled out our properly was because I was told to, otherwise it wouldn’t be
She said that because I have nice skin (I have hEDS my skin will always look a certain way because of this condition) and the fact that I’m not malnourished (and am not underweight) that there’s nothing wrong with me
So great. I’m back to the start, triggered (she told me my weight even after I asked her not to) and told me she sees sicker people then me and therefore it’s not a food issue and I’m fine.
So yay. I’m completely fucked.
If anyone has any advice or suggestions I would love to hear them because I’m desperate at this point.

I have a pretty bad food allergy, so I carry around an epipen. I've never reacted bad enough that immediate benadryl wouldn't fix my issues, but I still have an epipen. My doctor made it clear that just because I haven't needed one in the past, doesn't mean I won't react badly enough to need it in the future. So! I have them and everybody close to me know where they are and how to use them.
So what does this have to do with most of the tags I put? Right now, things are serious in the states and a lot of things can go a lot of ways for people like me. So, my autistic ass is making a metaphorical epipen (an epi-plan if you will 😎 ) for whatever may come. What to do, where to go, how to do, and all that. I'll make sure that everybody I care about knows and maybe coordinate and share information with anyone interested. And then? It goes in the junk drawer to only see the light of day when I remind everyone once a year or so and in case of something bad going down.
Am I irritated? Your god damn right I am! But I'm still chilling at home watching cats play instead of running off or acting rashly.
Do I ever want to be in a position that I need to use one (real or metaphorical)? Hell no! It's something you hope you never have to use, BUT you're grateful to have one when you need it. When things get serious, they help you make it to a place where you can get help.

People who are lactose intolerant give so little fucks they will just chug down a milkshake say their stomach hurts a bit and carry on with their day meanwhile you have people with peanut allergies being like: "if any of the ingredients of this meal have been in a ten mile radius of a nut you'll have to stab this needle in my leg with the force of a kid trying to get the straw in their capri sun or I die"
