"Fed is best. This isn’t just for babies. Everyone needs to eat, and food is a human right. It’s a privilege to be able to choose from various forms of food. It’s a privilege to be told to just eat the cookie because it tastes good. Some people, because of food insecurity, are thinking about how to get in their next meal. Some people are struggling with job security and have multiple mouths to feed and need a way to make their dollar stretch. I was once asked during an interview what was the key to health I could tell everyone. I simply replied “Money.” Because there is no universal way to be healthy. Needless to say, that wasn’t the answer they were looking for, and they finally got me to say “Eat a variety of foods,” but the secret really is money."

Just yesterday I was telling a friend that it feels like there is so much pressure on moms to perform a certain way when it comes to breastfeeding...
Everyone expects you to be able to pump what your baby needs right off the bat, to deal with the demands and overload of information...
And stay positive, calm and alert... making sure to never drop the ball, recover, do self-care, eat and drink enough just in time for dinner and night time routines...
For every newborn there are hundreds of new devices and suggestions released, and it all comes down to money..
It was the same with slings and cloth diapers when I had my first 3 kids...
Better carrier,.cooler diaper system, more eco-friendly... unicorn udder cream to prevent rash and to raise future IQ.
The race to raise better, faster, smarter, cleaner and more posh babies... and don't forget to be the ultimate example of gentle, in tune aligned mafesting love & light parent sucking off the fresh clean teat of Mother Earth herself... and taking in the cleanest and purest mana for your soul....
And only then can you hope to break generational curses and heal the earth with your offspring.
There is so much pressure, I even saw a flash card set to develop photographic memory in babies 0 months to 3 years old....
Aaaaaarrrggghhhh 🥴⚠️😵😵😱😖☠💀
I don't even understand how this market is booming so much with the massive decline in birth rates.
Anyway... the worse part are the fakers on TikTok, making regular moms feel like failures for not pumping massive amounts of milk from day one and owning the 12 types of pumps and having IBCLC's on speed dial and on some premium 12 month subscription to optimize the breastfeeding experience...
But first get all these foods, pills, teas and supplements on this 55 point list!!! (I WISH I was kidding on the 55 points... I wish)
At the end you feel like you might need to be throwing money at the thing every day to hope and pump enough while your lazy nurser, disorganized latcher number 6 grows a bit more, matures a bit more... and you thank the universe for moms with oversupply who donate locally so you can at least give your baby your preferred type of food full time.
It's still wild the immense maddening pressure on mothers out here!! 16 years on the job and conditions seem to have gotten even more intense. Yikes!
If you are a new parent, BE gentle with yourself, do the things at a pace that fits with YOU and your baby.
Blinders on, earplugs in and hold your babies and toddlers close.
Keep the loud, performance diseased world OUT!

I’ve been seeing this make the rounds elsewhere, and figured it was worth mentioning here as it seems useful.
Do you ever find it a struggle to feed yourself? Like, you find yourself so overwhelmed that you can barely form a thought past “I should probably eat something”?
Not only have some people written a cookbook for when you have zero spoons, but they’ve put the digital version online for free! (You can still buy a paper copy at most booksellers if you’re so inclined)

Which is why health care workers need to be better trained to stop making people feel terrible about eating actual food.
On a call with my diabetic specialist nurse two days ago - a lady I generally like and who understands that my blood sugar issues are not from food so much as menopause and PCOS - I mentioned that I'd tried having some peanuts as a snack and was happy to see that they had no impact on my blood sugar.
She said, "Oh yes, peanuts are mostly fibre. Should be fine."
So I said, "I was just so happy to find a crunchy, easy snack to eat."
She said, "Right, but be careful not to put on too much weight with them."
Like....why. Why say that. I ate about a quarter of a 200g bag. There was no need for her to harsh my rare snack.
So I countered with, "Oh, I didn't have that many, and anyway it's a good way to get my salt intake up closer to my POTS requirements."
That knocked her back off the issue, because she knows I have LC/ME/CFS/POTS and that the specialist for all of that has told me to eat 6g of salt per day along with high water consumption to avoid dysautonomia symptoms. But that's all well out of her wheelhouse, so she doesn't argue with me about it. That said, the diabetes people haaaaaaaaate that I have an actual medical reason to eat more salt, because they're so used to knee-jerk telling people not to eat carbs, fat, or salt, even though those reactions are largely based on unproven or disproven nutritional suppositions.
And again, this is the diabetes person I like. She's one of the good ones, because she does back down when I remind her that I have this other stuff going on. I've had other diabetes nurses say utterly horrid things to me, truly ignorant and mean bullshit. And the mean part is bad enough but the ignorant parts are dangerous and enrage me.
This is also why I routinely have @spacedocmom remind people that fed is best, to eat what works for them, that comfort food has value, and other gently positive nudging towards getting people to understand that they shouldn't have to defend their food needs constantly.
diet talk is so inexpressibly nonsensical the instant you know anything about "the human body" or "nutrition" or if you think about it for three seconds

Doctor Beverly Crusher @SpaceDocMom If your "goal weight" requires you to starve yourself and/or push your body past pain thresholds with excessive exercise, that "goal weight" is neither a healthy nor a sustainable weight for you. Say no to toxic diet culture. emojis: black heart, blue heart, masked, spoon 5:50 PM · Nov 2, 2024

“Fed is best” is meant to be about baby feeding but I’ve been using it as a personal mantra against guilt over how I feed myself. Did I order Indian instead of doing something with the vegetables in the fridge? Fed is best!
Tumblr media
Something I need to be reminded of often. Yes, I'm very lazy and also have executive problems up the wazoo (the difference? laziness is fun), but the cultural expectation of being productive every waking moment isn't healthy either. And the business of feeding ourselves is especially fraught these days.

I may be the only Trad mama who won't breast feed her baby.. but I'm happy with my choice.
It Sure feels like I'm the only woman in the world now who chooses this and the epidural too.
Drying up was excruciating for me. It saved my mental health to allow myself to heal instead of prolonging the pain with my first. I don't need anyone to try to talk me out of it.
most FTMs plan on trying.. but not everyone has to stick with it.

I try to pay attention to how my cravings are trending because when my brain suddenly decides I can’t eat something any more, it doesn’t matter if I can’t afford more groceries. Lately the only thing I really want to eat is trash. So I bought ENOF shake-on vegetable supplement and Vade protein packs. At least I’m getting actual nutrition.
