Why people are against RAMCOA

If you scroll through posts in the system community you have most likely seen a handful of people posting about RAMCOA being a bad term. Here is why!

Contrary to what many people think when they see these posts; those people are not denying that your trauma is real. When people are saying RAMCOA isn't real, they're talking about what that term actually means. RAMCOA is misused and misunderstood a lot on the internet. How? I'll go into that.

Where it came from

RAMCOA (Ritual Abuse, Mind Control, and Organized Abuse) is a term that used to be used to be called SRA (Satanic Ritual Abuse) and is now called OEA (Organized and Extreme Abuse)

These terms were created by the ISSTD (International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation), an organization that studies trauma and dissociation, if the name didn't give that away. Each of these terms were used at different times, replacing one another on the ISSTD's SIG (Special Interest Groups) page. In order, it went: SRA, RAMCOA, OEA

SRA was created during a point in time called the Satanic Panic. The Satanic Panic is still going on today but isn't as talked about anymore. It is/was a moral panic about Satanic cults that had over thousands of victims. The thing is, those cults never had proof of existing. Despite thousands of accusations of murder being made, nothing was ever found to prove this. The Satanic Panic is considered a conspiracy theory.

Over time it became clear to groups such as the FBI, CIA, and general law enforcement that these claims weren't actually true, or at least the stories were twisted. FBI Special Agent, Kenneth V. Lanning stated that "ritual" child abuse was not something people should fear due to that lack of evidence despite 50,000 claims of children falling victims to these cults being made.

Antisemitism

When you look at what RAMCOA means on social media, the words alone, and simple definitions, it's not easy to see the antisemitism behind it. However, looking into what the term describes, is used for, and the history of it allows you to see just how the term is antisemitic.

To understand, we need to first go back to the Satanic Panic and what that was. Moral panic about Satanic cults with no proof behind them. During the Satanic Panic, many people were falsely accused of being members of these cults, sacrificing and abusing children, ECT with no proof behind it. Now, we move on to another topic; Blood Libel.

Blood Libel is an antisemitic conspiracy theory that has existed for a very long time. It is the belief that Jewish people are sacrificing non-Jewish children (typically Christians) to use their blood for rituals during/close to Passover. There have been accusations of these things made on Jewish people with no evidence of them what so ever.

Sound familiar?

This is exactly what was happening during the Satanic Panic. The only difference is that they are not out right saying it was Jewish people. However, take into consideration that hardcore Christians often call anything or anyone that doesn't follow their religion "Satanic" and investigators have noticed that within the SRA/RAMCOA conspiracy theories as well.

The Satanic Panic, SRA/RAMCOA, and Blood Libel all directly connect to one another in terms of belief, theories, and actions even if they don't explicitly state that. Conspiracy theorists don't want you to doubt them for any reason, they want you to share their beliefs. Making their antisemitism less explicit helps them do that.

What's wrong about using it

You can't separate something like this from its origin and meaning. It's a harmful term directly connected to these conspiracy theories rooted in antisemitism. The ISSTD changed SRA to RAMCOA and RAMCOA to OEA but the meanings still stay the same. They still discuss "ritual abuse" and "mind control" in their OEA SIG.

The meanings have always stayed the same despite the names/acronyms changing. Members of the RAMCOA SIG were still a part of the SRA SIG and now moved on to the OEA SIG. They still use the term SRA within the SIG with certain members that have been around since the SRA SIG.

By using these terms you are labeling yourself with outdated/controversial terms (ritual abuse and mind control) that are directly connected to the antisemitic conspiracy theories that hurt Jewish people still. Normalizing the usage of these terms is harmful, it allows the conspiracy theorists to further push people away from associating the term with their wrong doings while they continue to do wrong. Jewish people have expressed their discomfort with this. They have expressed how unsafe they feel in the system community because of this.

You cannot call your blogs, servers, accounts, ECT a safe space for systems if that doesn't include Jewish systems.

Alternatives

Instead of using harmful terms such as RAMCOA or the outdated/controversial terms like ritual abuse and mind control, use the more common and correct terms to describe your abuse.

Religious abuse

Phycological abuse

Sexual abuse

Organized abuse (Not OEA)

Sadistic abuse

Cult abuse/survivor

Trafficking (survivor)

Some people have expressed concern that these downplay their experiences. Remind yourself that these terms are not specific to the severity. Any severity of physical abuse is still physical abuse. The term you use will never downplay your experiences. You don't need a term to tell other victims "I had it worse than you."

These terms are just more specific terms for abuse. If it helps you, put "severe" in front of the term you use. It may help you feel less like you're downplaying your experiences. But keep in mind that your experience stays the same no matter what. A term does not change what you went through.

HxH and HTTP Status Codes

The HTTP 403, 404, and 405 references in the Hunter Exam (as foreshadowing or character-summaries) is so sickening, but at the same time it's hard to deny that Togashi probably was referencing them, considering that the manga came out in 1998 while HTTP codes were a thing since 1992-1993 (and he spent a whole page explaining what the internet and computers were). It could definitely be a coincidence, but the definitions of what 403, 404, and 405 end up meaning is something we see as the stories have progressed.

For context, these are the Error Codes, and as the reader I think you may already guess and connect the dots on why I find the correlations so intriguing:

403 Forbidden: Leorio

The request contained valid data and was understood by the server, but the server is refusing action. (Wikipedia) The client does not have access rights to the content; that is, it is unauthorized, so the server is refusing to give the requested resource. Unlike 401 Unauthorized, the client's identity is known to the server... re-authenticating makes no difference. The access is tied to the application logic, such as insufficient rights to a resource. 404 Not Found: Kurapika (We all know this)

The requested resource could not be found but may be available in the future. Subsequent requests by the client are permissible. 405 Method Not Allowed: Gon (Though I think the name of the error can speak for itself)

Further thoughts:

While it's possible that this can definitely be a stretch or a coincidence, it sure is an interesting way to look at it. And even if Togashi did not intend for these to connect, it makes me even more interested to continue reading HxH to see how long they'll connect until they're no longer applicable.

404 interests me because of "temporary unavailable" and "it may be available again in the future", so I wonder if that's applicable not only to Kurapika himself but to the Kurta Clan as well, considering we're entering the Dark Continent and I've already seen a theory on the Kurta Clan originating from the DC one way or another (reddit links)

Eric stared at the glowing screen of his laptop, a strange sense of excitement bubbling up inside him. He had stumbled upon a program unlike anything he’d ever seen—an obscure piece of software with a power that felt more like dark magic than modern technology. It claimed it could transform anyone into anyone else, real or fictive, physically and mentally, down to the last detail. A fantasy that should have remained locked in the recesses of his mind was suddenly within reach.

Billy.

The bad boy from Stranger Things who had captivated Eric ever since he'd first laid eyes on him—Billy, with his chiseled body, wild hair, and untamed confidence, everything Eric longed for. Billy, with his alpha attitude and carefree behavior. Billy with his over-the-top sex life and don’t give a shit personality. And now, here was this impossible opportunity, lying right in front of him. The catch? The person to be transformed had to be someone Eric knew personally and was closed to. Being far away from everyone he loved because of the college, that meant it could only be one person: his roommate, Jake.

Jake had been Eric’s roommate and best friend since freshman year—kind, loyal, and completely oblivious to the fantasies Eric had buried. Could Eric really do this? Could he trick Jake into becoming... someone else? The more he thought about it, the more he was torn apart between his fantasy and his loyalty. Jake had always been there for him, he was his best friend, a good student, loved by everyone. The more he thought about it, the more he was starting to realize what that meant. His cheekbones lifted, while his nose restructured, growing slightly broader. His lips thickened just a little, curling into a sneer even as he slept. The bones beneath his face crackled audibly, like distant fireworks.

Then came his body. Jake’s chest began to heave, his shirt tightening as his pecs swelled, muscles bulging outward. His arms thickened, biceps ballooning in size as veins snaked along his skin, stretching taut over the rising muscle. His stomach contracted, fat burning away in an instant to reveal an impressively sculpted six-pack. The definition of every muscle was becoming impossibly sharp, like a body sculpted by the gods themselves.

Eric’s eyes widened as Jake's legs extended, lengthening and thickening with sinew. His thighs bulged under the fabric of his jeans, his calves now heavy and sculpted with muscle. The feet at the end of his long legs morphed, growing wider, larger, more imposing. Even his toes seemed to rearrange, becoming more masculine, rougher.

As the transformation progressed, dark blonde hair sprouted rapidly across Jake’s chest, arms, and legs. The hair on his forearms thickened into a rough, virile coat. A trail of coarse hair formed on his lower abdomen, leading down below his waistband. His groin was what transformed the most as a the thick dirty blonde curly pelt he now sprouted. His entire body had taken on that wild, untamed look of pure alpha masculinity.

Eric’s gaze drifted lower, his face flushing as he noticed the bulge in Jake’s pants swelling. Jake’s cock was growing larger, thicker, pushing out against the tight fabric. His nuts, too, seemed to hang heavier, the very size of his masculinity amplifying as he transformed.

A violent jerk shook Jake’s body, and his hair began to change next. His once-short, brown locks sprouted rapidly, curling into wild, sun-bleached waves. As the final changes solidified, Jake’s groans deepened into something more primal. His posture changed, becoming more confident, more aggressive, his body brimming with raw power. The scent of musk filled the air, an intoxicating mix of sweat and testosterone that radiated off Jake’s pits, cock and feet.

But the worst part was Jake’s face. His once-soft, friendly expression twisted into a cocky, arrogant smirk, the same one that Billy always wore. The fear and confusion in Jake’s eyes dimmed, replaced with the cold, predatory gleam that belonged entirely to Billy Hargrove.

Jake’s body suddenly tensed, his eyes snapping open. “Fuck... what the hell?” His voice was deeper now, rougher, dripping with Billy’s signature bravado. He looked down at his new body, running his hands over his muscled chest and abs covered by his musky white tanktop, feeling every ridge, every bulge of strength. His cocky grin widened but his eyes still were surprised and scared of what he was seeing. He tilted his head away from his huge pecs and hard abs to look at Eric. Jake then tried to open his mouth to ask for help but before he could do it, his pupils contracted and dilated, now lacking the fear and full of confidence and horniness.

Eric stood frozen, unable to move, unable to speak.

Billy flexed his arms, admiring his muscular frame. He glanced at Eric, his sneer deepening.

“Damn… looks like I’m fuckin’ perfect,” Billy said, his voice full of arrogance. He stretched, his thick biceps rippling with power. His eyes locked onto Eric, sizing him up like prey. “Gotta say, man, I feel fuckin’ good.”

Eric’s heart pounded. This wasn’t Jake anymore. His friend was gone, erased by the monster standing before him. And yet, despite his horror, Eric felt an undeniable attraction to the imposing figure in front of him—the very object of his darkest fantasies come to life.

Billy got off the bed and took a step toward him, his swagger undeniable, oozing dominance. “You do this?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous. When Eric didn’t respond, Billy chuckled darkly. “Yeah, you did. I can see it in your fuckin’ eyes.”

In a swift motion, Billy grabbed Eric by the shirt and shoved him onto the bed. Eric gasped, his heart racing as Billy towered over him, his cocky grin never wavering. His heavy boots thudded on the floor as he approached taking off his tanktop then slowly pulling off the belt of his well-used pair of jeans, the leather slipping through his fingers with a sharp hiss.

“You’ve been wanting this, haven’t you? Wanted me?” Billy said, his voice dripping with contempt and amusement as he grabbed the pack of cigarette from his back pocket and lighted one up. He tossed the belt aside and ran his hand over his crotch, his bulge pressing aggressively against the fabric. “Well, now I’m here. You got what you wanted.”

Eric could hardly breathe. Billy’s eyes gleamed with malicious delight as he reached down, picking up the device Eric had used for the transformation. Eric’s stomach dropped as he saw Billy’s fingers swipe across the screen, entering something into the software.

Billy looked down at Eric, his grin widening. “You think this game’s over, man? Nah. We’re just gettin’ started.”

Eric’s eyes went wide as Billy held the device up, revealing what he had typed in:

Steve Harrington, slut, passive , slaved to Billy, Ahoy uniform.

With a chilling smirk, Billy tossed the device aside, leaning over Eric, his breath hot on his face as he grabbed Eric’s growing hair and forced his unwashed uncut cock in his mouth as his face was starting to rearrange. “Now, let’s have some real fun, huh?”

The last thing Eric saw was Billy’s cold, blue eyes and that cocky, knowing grin, as the reality of what he had unleashed crashed down on him.

His nightmare had only just begun.

Gonna ramble here for a second. 'Bout being a fictive and I guess... Talking to people close to you about source without them knowing you're literally right there next to em.

So like. Our body's got a little sister. Well, two and a little brother actually but I'm only focusing on one of em for this post. This one's like... 10 or so, hard to remember through dissociation and shit. But.. She likes my source, likes drawing, and doesn't know we're a system, for context for this.

She sat down next to me the other day, and was complaining about how hard it is to draw hands. I feel like I'm one of the least sociable guys in this head but I don't actually mind our siblings in this family so I decide to chat. I agreed, they're tricky and annoying and weirdly shaped. She then handed me her sketchbook and asked me to show her how I draw hands. I was like... I'm a shit teacher but alright. I can do that. So I broke a hand down into basic shapes, then showed her the process of fleshing it out. She was confused but she seemed happy enough to have it as a reference to look at.

She got me to draw a few things after that. She wanted an eye, but the eye I drew was "too detailed" so she wanted me to draw another. So I did. She wanted an angry facial expression, she wanted a cat, she wanted me to show her how to draw a leg. Just random things, I guess. But eventually she takes the book back and starts drawing on her own.

Thinking she's done talking for now, I pull out my phone and open the art program because well now she's gotten me in the mood for drawing. She sees me click the program though and goes "let me see some of your art!!!". So I'm like yeah, it's been a while since she asked, she can look at some new stuff. Why not. It'll keep her happy.

We're going through things we've drawn, unknown to her that a good 90% of them are system members--and she stops me and goes "do you have any MHA art?". Random question but the kid has internet access, the ability to get into Netflix, and is clearly autistic about MHA in general. So maybe not so random. But we don't have non-system art of MHA, it's all fictives.

So I think for a second and I realise I don't really want to explain to her why Bakugo is holding hands with some random other guy not even from MHA, and also holding hands with Kirishima in like 90% of the images we have of them. 'Cause that's awkward and not my shit to explain or come up with something about. Those guys can handle that if they want.

I then realise, yeah, I've got art of me just kinda sitting next to Shigaraki. Nothing that could be taken as noncanon or weird to this kid. Just sitting there can't be weird. I could show her that. And potentially deal with some weird out-of-left-field comment from her about Dabi the same way she randomly said "Shigaraki is a gay bitch" while he was (unknowingly) sitting right next to her a month or so back. But that's fine, I decide I can handle a kid saying weird shit.

So I show her. She only says one thing.

"Why did you pick the white hair?"

Yeah I could ask myself the same question actually. Should've stayed with black or changed it up some other way again. But I tell her that it's just what we picked for the picture.

"He looks so stupid with white hair. It needs to be black. Like his soul! At least I think he has a soul..?"
