doing a little research on how birthdays are celebrated in italy and the philippines got me really interested in how this could be applied to maggie and nova

so apparently, according to this source, it's BAD LUCK to celebrate your birthday early in italy WHICH COMBINED WITH MAGGIE PROBABLY THINKING OF HER BIRTHDAY AS EARLIER THAN IT ACTUALLY IS. that's kinda funny. Maybe her bad luck went towards the reveal being delayed for all those years, since she survives each birthday

Also giftgiving! I firmly have hc'd that maggie would majorly show her affection via pebbling and giving gifts so Love that that's in support

Looking at this source for celebrations in the philippines made me realize I'm too hungry for this BUT ALSO it'd be very interesting to see Nova and Maggie celebrating each other's birthday's this way. ESPECIALLY THE DEBUT BIRTHDAY i didn't know about that celebration before but now I want to draw them to it cuz i can just. Picture it.

All the ways it'd be fun and also rough since neither has their father anymore for the Father Daughter dance. It DOES say that an older male relative can be there instead tho, so I'm very soft to the idea of Maggie dancing with Leroy (FATHER FIGUREEEEEE) and Nova either with Leroy or her in laws (Hugh probably, guilt buddies and all) since her relationship with Leroy might be different after supernova

I’ve always personally headcanoned that if Mandalorians DID have certain stereotypical family/relationship roles it wouldn’t be anywhere close to gendered, like one person is the man and one person is the woman. It would be like, one person is the shield and one person is the sword. One is the guard and one is the hunter. The bigger and stronger of the two — traditionally, though obviously every marriage would be different and most wouldn’t conform exactly, especially with polyamory — might be the one to stay home and guard the kids and the clan. While the faster, more maneuverable and perhaps deadlier of the two went out and hunted, provided, initiated raids. A Mandalorian couple fighting together would be so dangerous for so many reasons but principally because if they’re both there it probably means you’re on their territory and both the guard and the hunter are after you, and now you’re seriously fucked.

A list of household things which MANY ethnicities seem to think are specific to their culture:

a) a plastic bag stuffed full of other plastic bags

b) cultural/religious knickknacks which your grandparents will scream at you for touching

c) a set of items that are specifically for Company (often the relatives your parents feel the need to impress and/or secretly despise)

d) a very loud woman

e) a butter cookie tin full of sewing supplies

f) mass Tupperware collections and/or ice cream and yogurt containers filled with surprise cold vegetables in the fridge

g) relatives overly involved in the physical appearances, profesional, and reproductive lives of the young women in the family

h) arguing

anyway I think the really interesting cultural identifier is what b) and c) are, because those are a little more specific even if the impulses behind them are not
