tbh I dont think I've figured out if I can pick one I'd want the most to happen, I'm pretty on board in any version of events (angsty or fluffy) as long as it is an interesting way of going about it and doesn't feel ooc, its gotta stand out from the og trilogy and it cant be drawn out for the sake of drawing it out (good slow burn 🤞platonic obv)

What I hate about Supernova’s ending is that Nova’s ending is framed to be a good, happy one when it is everything but that.

The series starts with Nova witnessing her entire family being massacred (including her baby sister) and her ending up with a group of supervillains that will shortly be living in poverty with no free will and each member more bitter and messed up than the last.

And ends with her being betrayed by her father figure (Leroy using agent N instead of the paralysis poison), her mother figure (Honey literally tries to torture her to death, she could’ve stabbed or shot her, but no she chooses the most painful way she can think of), her uncle who she has sacrificed literarily everything for tries to kill her after confessing that HE was the one who massacred her family and basically kidnapped and groomed her for 10 years.

And then she’s more or less forced to join the government that’s been oppressing her, her entire life.

The worst part is that she’ll have no privacy either, Nova always states that she did not like to be seen, and now the entire world knows her identity and knows what she did so she’ll be under scrutiny by so many people. The public’s reaction to the supernova might not be entirely positive.

And ok, u can argue that at least she has Adrian, which is great but like…no way they’re not gonna have extreme ups and downs in their relationship, what happens if they take a break? Like who does she have?

She could technically join the rejects and help them start a better life but that’s just putting more responsibility on her shoulders (although im definitely in support of the idea that Nova doesn’t become a renegade and campaigns for prodigy rights the way Adrian said he would).

And I’m supposed to believe that she was standing on a parade float three years later waving to the crowd and acting like a hero.

Something she mocked in the very beginning of the series (and she was 100% right).

don't mind me just thinking about how one day when they're older and Adrian decides to propose to Nova he'll probably carry the ring around with him in his pocket for days even though he has a proposal planned at the end of the week because he doesn't want Nova to find it, and if he's ever even in the same room as Maggie during those few days she'll KNOW. she'll be like "why does Adrian have something super expensive in his pocket" to Max and Max, who has seen his brother being extra shady but also extra lovey dovey the past few weeks, will narrow his eyes, and they'll figure it out together and Maggie will have to drag Max out of every room Nova enters because he CANNOT keep secrets from her and her only.

this was supposed to start as a super wholesome doodle of maggie and max for aromantic awareness week and then it switched to just maggie and then i wanted to add a quote when i had the idea to add the bullet but in a very wacky hijink last year i lOST my only copy of renegades and goodreads wasn't very helpful so i turned to jinx quotes instead and actually maggie and nova have a pretty comparable dynamic to jinx and vi and aLSO IF YOU CAN'T SEE THE TSHIRT IT'S FUCKING THIS

Renegades had so much potential, possibly more than TLC but idk why I feel like Marissa just got tired of it. Like Renegades is obviously something she doesn’t cherish as much as the rest of her books.

And it shows.

"renegades is about grey morality" "oh the ending of supernova made the whole point of neutral morality completely moot" IT'S EXTREMISM. RENEGADES IS ANTI-EXTREMISM.

callum literally says to nova in archenemies that he disagrees with the anarchists because all they did was destroy, they believed the only way for the world to be as it should was to essentially cause the apocalypse. we don't talk about it enough, but the series DOES take place in a semi-recovered post-apocalyptic environment. and then the anarchists raised nova to destroy what little progress had been made towards recovery. yes the renegades were a very flawed system; the whole point is that they should be CHANGED, not DESTROYED.

anyways i’m working on a playlist for nova and even though it’s not done i HAVE to share how incredibly well Envy by Sparkbird fits nova as she’s becoming a renegade…

When Nova first joins the Renegades, she’s in it for the spying and the information, that’s it. She’s got no attachment to these people beyond a drive for vengeance - fully double agent mode. But as the time goes by, she’s still angry, but trying to reconcile a more nuanced view of the Renegades from inside the organization: she may not agree with their methods, but they are genuinely trying to make things better. And it hurts her, the knowledge that while they are out doing good and being there for the people of Gatlon, they weren’t there for her when it mattered.

However, being inside the organization reveals something else incriminating: how important the public’s opinion is. I won’t get too deep into spoilers but for an organization that’s meant to protect the people, it sure seems to Nova that they protect their own image when they can. The effortless immunity and charisma they project takes so much effort. Effort she can use to her advantage.

I know Marissa Meyer is better known for the Lunar Chronicles (which don’t get me wrong is one of my all time favs)

But I read her other series, Renegades, like not even 6 months ago and word on the street is there’s gonna be another one
