I'm trying to get my life together after three years couch surfing while my chronic pain and fatigue are getting worse. I've finally got a place to live but it involved moving from California to Pennsylvania with what I could fit in a duffle bag and a backpack. I need to get everything from towels and dishes to a new PC and a dresser.

The reporting of the proposed cuts to disability benefits is so lazy.

Everyone is just repeating the governments claims that if your put in the LCWRA category (highest disability related group) then the universal credit system prevents you from working. Which is just not true. I know because I’m in the LCWRA group and I work part time.

All that LCWRA means is that your disability is considered by the DWP severe enough to significantly impact your ability to work and to prepare for work. There are three main things that come with being placed in this category:

1. No requirement to look for/ prepare for work in order to claim benefits

2. An extra payment each month so you have just enough to live on

3. A work allowance. This means that you can earn up to about £400 each month before it impacts your benefit. After that amount every £1 you earn subtracts 55p from your benefit.

So while there is no formal requirement to look for work, being in the LCWRA category definitely doesn’t prevent you from working if, like me, you are lucky enough to find a job you are able to do.

I also wish that they’d give examples of the kinds of disability that gets you placed into this category. The criteria are pretty severe – we’re talking people unable to get from their wheelchair to the toilet without assistance, people unable to use a keyboard to type, people who can’t go to familiar places even with support from a carer, people whose neurodivergence means that their behaviour would cause a risk of harm to themselves or others (there are other categories but these are the ones I remember). These are not people who should be being forced into work by threat of poverty.

It just feels like people are missing the important parts of this conversation.

Targeting disabled people instead of taxing the wealthy is just cruel, claiming it’s “for our own good” is abusive.

I have been crowdfunding for two full months now, and have managed to raise $4100 total! That is absolutely amazing, and never could have happened without the support of everyone on Tumblr. Thank you so much to everyone continuing to share my post, and an especially big thank you to those who donated. I have just under $3,000 in direct debt currently, and I have until December 1 to find a new place to live, regardless of if I have been placed by BC Housing into housing whose rent is geared to my disability income. Vancouver rents are about $2,000/month for 1 bedroom, I don't have a prayer of keeping a roof over my head without donations.

So that's where I am now, to be clear, the money not spent directly on debt was spent on food, monthly bills, and transit. Even so, I ended up needing to take out payday loans to get through this month, and am out of funds for now.

I have more appointments and transit costs than ever right now, and with time running out to clear my debts before I'm on my own I'm really feeling the strain. There is much more information on the gofundme page, I also, of course, have my original post, which I am retiring because it seems to have lost traction now.

I'd appreciate anything anyone has to offer, from $1-$5 on paypal, to $5+ on gofundme, literally ANYTHING helps. I feel abandoned and alone and I don't know what to do other than beg the public for help. Please.

hey guys

my sister is really struggling to make ends meet lately. she just moved out of our abusive nazi dad's place in oklahoma and is doing much better mentally now that she's living with friends.

however, the move has taken a financial toll on her as she is disabled and unable to work most jobs. she is an amazing dog trainer and has been training service dogs for years. she got into this through her own struggles with chronic illness and her passion for dogs.

she is such an inspiring person and is doing her best to bring her business out to florida, but is having a difficult time getting started in the meantime.

i've helped her as much as i can financially, and am reaching out to you guys to help her be able to buy food and pay her bills on time.

we grew up very poor and are still struggling with daily life in poverty. she deserves amazing things and to not feel bad for these things out of her control.

I haven't personally tried these socks, but for anyone with wide calves, wide feet, or disabilities that make putting on socks difficult, this may be a helpful option! If you have sensory issues that make tags uncomfortable, I'm assuming the tag is possible to cut off.

Very unfortunately my wheelchair is on its last leg and can no longer be used outside of the house. As a full time wheelchair user this has taken away from the little comfort ajd autonomy I've had. This wheelchair was also a very cheap manual wheelchair not meant for constant use and has done irreparable damage to my spine, legs, feet, and knees which is why I'm trying to buy a used collapsible electric wheelchair so I have more comfort, longevity, freedom, etc with this one

So my new wheelchair doesn't come with headlights because where I live the NHS doesn't fund them, which is a problem given that the chat is also black so I'm basically invisible in the dark.

But I've just got myself this really cool light/USB port which plugs into the charging bit in my wheelchair joystick because it's a really handy piece of kit

seeing people i haven’t talked to since i started using a cane is so hard, especially in public.

be they a regular at my store, or an acquaintance, it’s always “WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU” “WHAT DID YOU DO” “ARE YOU OKAY?”

and i don’t know how they expect me to- in public, usually while im working- explain every symptom that led to my need for a cane. if you must ask, ask quietly in private. but it’s genuinely none of your business why someone may use a mobility aid! just treat us as you would normally if it weren’t there!

hey able bodied people!!

if you're waiting behind a person with a disability aid (ie cane, walker, crutch, wheelchair, ect) to open a door,, dont??

go in front of them/through a different door and open it for them, or just go through a different door.

it takes me significantly longer to open a door when i have my cane and i cant hold the door open behind me. if you wait, it creates unnecessary pressure for me to get the door open quickly and hold it open.
