JULY 11
I have been crowdfunding for two full months now, and have managed to raise $4100 total! That is absolutely amazing, and never could have happened without the support of everyone on Tumblr. Thank you so much to everyone continuing to share my post, and an especially big thank you to those who donated. I have just under $3,000 in direct debt currently, and I have until December 1 to find a new place to live, regardless of if I have been placed by BC Housing into housing whose rent is geared to my disability income. Vancouver rents are about $2,000/month for 1 bedroom, I don't have a prayer of keeping a roof over my head without donations.
So that's where I am now, to be clear, the money not spent directly on debt was spent on food, monthly bills, and transit. Even so, I ended up needing to take out payday loans to get through this month, and am out of funds for now.
I have more appointments and transit costs than ever right now, and with time running out to clear my debts before I'm on my own I'm really feeling the strain. There is much more information on the gofundme page, I also, of course, have my original post, which I am retiring because it seems to have lost traction now.
I'd appreciate anything anyone has to offer, from $1-$5 on paypal, to $5+ on gofundme, literally ANYTHING helps. I feel abandoned and alone and I don't know what to do other than beg the public for help. Please.

not to vanpoli on here but
people are making fun of ken sim for talking about how he was preyed upon by school gangs at churchill in the early 90s (?) going like, “in oakridge?”
(churchill is in langara, kthx)
the thing is i believe him; the early 90s was the height of the east van teen gang wars. however vancouver has gentrified so much since then. i have churchill alum friends from the 00s and the worst stuff i heard about through the grapevine was the houseparties and the (multiple) teachers who got fired for relationships with high school students. and this was before standard lot houses in that area started going for $1m!
like it just demonstrates the thinking of a party who thinks this is still 90s vancouver and vancouver is still a sleepy town, rather than a major city in a middle of a housing crisis due to hockey stick gentrification over the past decade

Ken Sim wasted millions of dollars hiring cops to violently steal poor people's belonging this week. They couldn't offer anyone in the encampment housing so all the people are still there, just without their survival equipment. The encampment is home for these folks, the city may offer SRO rooms, but as someone who works in a nicer one, they are often unsafe, bug/mould infested, and are such a hectic environment living there will make a sane person unwell. The province can offer no safe sutable housing in this city because all our money goes to useless police action. The Canadian charter of rights and freedoms ch8 protects a reasonable right to privacy in ones home. This decampment is unconstitutional.

I Am Not Okay Don't Expect Me to Be
When in government, you take money from one thing – such as healthcare, education, housing, and poverty reduction – and give it to Israel so they can continue their ongoing oppression of the Palestinian people. How do you expect then, for average everyday normal citizens who have no concept of war, to be okay with what they are seeing? Government officials have decided to abandon their…

Vancouver Liberal candidate flipped at least 21 homes since 2005!
Tumblr media
Vancouver-Granville has an easy decision to make. Liberal candidate, Taleeb Noormohamed, who helped create the housing crisis in Vancouver, BC, by being a career house flipper... OR The NDP's Anjali Appadurai who wants to build below-market homes and social housing, and combat speculation. Vote NDP in Vancouver-Granville if you care about the housing crisis!

Sep 17, 2019 | “Recently, the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre has been inundated with transphobic messages, comments, and negative reviews on Facebook and Twitter after we confirmed our trans-inclusive stance online in regards to a trans woman who accessed our shelter.
The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre (DEWC) strives to provide a safe, secure non-judgmental refuge along with basic need and support services for any and all women [cisgender and transgender] in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
Providing services to over 600 women each day, 7 days a week, DEWC supports a diverse population including Indigenous women, Chinese senior women, single mothers, women with disabilities, women with addictions, and women with mental and/or physical health conditions. What many women have in common is lack of adequate income, precarious housing situations, lack of access to heath supports, as well as experiencing high levels of violence and racism.
Creating and maintaining low-barrier safe space for all women accessing DEWC services is our priority, particularly for the women who survive with complex trauma, mental health, and/or addiction issues where they are often excluded from shelters and transition houses outside of the Downtown Eastside. It is important to note that trans women are especially marginalized, facing disproportionate abuse and harassment in both co-ed spaces and when accessing women’s services, and have even fewer safe spaces to go.
DEWC stands with all [cis and trans] women of the community continuing our work ensuring women have safe, accessible services and supports. We are committed to women’s safety and will continue to address internally any behavior that compromises the safety and security of women accessing DEWC services. Importantly, we refuse to engage in a dialogue that gives a platform to transphobic groups or individuals or otherwise does damage to women who are transgender.”

This thread (quoted in the above thread) does a good job going into more detail examining the specific groups involved in planning this rally and their actual agenda So it seems like the Vancouver and Victoria ones are being planned (or have been co-opted) by organizations/people representative of elite Chinese with ties to the Chinese government. The Toronto one does seem to be legitimate though
heads up to vancouverites, the stop aapi hate rally in vancouver is being planned by people with no connection with existing local asian activist groups and who have made no effort to reach out to these groups. more details in this twitter thread.
(same seems to be true of the victoria bc rally, but i’m not as familiar with local asian orgs there.)

Note
Also, despite the rhetoric from the BC Liberals and media portrayals of the area, crime has actually been going down in Strathcona over the last year.
SICK to hell and back of these stupid "ndp wants to keep tent cities but bc liberals want to keep u safe :)" ads im getting as if tent cities actually /harm/ anyone homeless people need shelter and if the city wont provide it then they dont really have many options. id rather every vacant lot in my town be occupied by a tent city if it meant homeless people werent kicked out of the only shelter theyre able to get. if the liberals want to "keep the community safe" then they can start by actually remedying the homelessness issue rather than just trying to shove vulnerable people even further under the bus.

Vote ballot (electronic)
Assumption: inputs are uniform - all forms filled out with a Sharpie pen
Empty state (sans votes)
Incomplete (did not meet minimum requirements)
Too many (exceeds requirements)
Success state
Inserted wrong side: upside down, wrong side up (error handling)
Stress test: 1000s (anticipate voter turnout)

Inspired by voting in my local municipal election. 🇨🇦✌️✅

Vancouver Centre's MP and Longest-Serving Liberal is NOT Progressive!
Tumblr media
Disappointed to learn that Canada's longest-serving female MP, Hedy Fry, who is also a doctor, so often votes against health measures to support us Canadians. I think it's time to elect the NDP's Candidate, Breen Oullette in Vancouver Centre! Check him out here: https://www.electbreen.ca/
